Speaker 1 (00:01):
Basis I on the ball on Fox Sports fourteen finding
I want to take part in the show call up
Steve now went five to two oh four one six
seventy four.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Hey, welcome back to Steve A barrow, your choy, your one,
and I hope you have some breaking.
Speaker 1 (00:17):
In basis I on the ball, breaking news on Fox
Sports fourteen fifty.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Happy Monday to everyone out there. Here's truly Mihito Lindo.
You like that name, don't you? Cause it stuck. It stuck,
It rolls off the tongue really well and it has
a nice ring to it. Need a tea shirt?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Uh uh yeah. You talk about breaking news, boy, do
we have it.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Arizona Athletics to Casino Del Saul have announced the transformative
sixty million plus stadium naming rights partnership over the span
of twenty years.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
The biggest news of the day. Twenty years. Twenty years okay,
not three okay, twenty years, so three million in the ground.
It's funny because three million, what does it get you?
Speaker 4 (01:00):
I honestly, yeah, no, you're right, Like if it was
ten years, okay, six.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Six, remember that you have to raise twenty million every
year yep for nil Yeah, in addition to whatever else.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
Well, this is not going an ile at all.
Speaker 2 (01:12):
I'm not Oh no, no, no, that's my point. I yeah,
what is this? Pay for it now? I'm not gonna
poo poo the money because it is the money. But okay,
what do we buy with these grocery groceries?
Speaker 4 (01:22):
But honestly, facility upgrades, coaching contracts, stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
So you think that did anybody ask about that in
terms of the facilities, because that.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Means I can't remember somebody they might have, I just
can't remember off the top of my head.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
As somebody what what does this Arizona stadium needs? Still?
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Because it needs stuff. The sound system, it's better.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
That's the biggest issue across the board.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, I will you know what, I want to two
games now. It's better than last year.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
I would also say the seating itself, the no backs bleachers.
That needs to change, both sides, both sides, both sides.
Speaker 5 (01:59):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:59):
And I'm not saying you need to do the chairs
like you do in the end zone. You need to
put backs there. You have an older fan base, it's
not feasible for somebody with issues to sit there for
three to four hours.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
I'm hoping I get her on the phone tomorrow. She's
gonna be with the team, So I don't know, uh,
task maybe that question, Yeah, what's where's the money going
to go? And maybe it's too early, but they've been
working on this deal for a while, right, so I'm
sure they know. I believe it also said towards lighting possible.
You know, you see the stadiums with the light shows,
They can turn them off and on really easily, or
change color. Yeah. Yeah, so that's probably something they're looking
(02:32):
at too.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
And Brennan's mentioned how Arizona Stadium does have poorror lighting
and it is a struggle for receivers and areas on
the stadium in night games at times.
Speaker 3 (02:43):
Okay, women's basketball improved two three and zero after they
win over Grambling, Gramley State or Grambling.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
It's Grambling State, rem State, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Gramley State. And we got a call. Hellthough, you're in
there and line the ball, who's HD the trick?
Speaker 6 (03:01):
And I just heard the young man speaking about backs.
You know they sell those seats push.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Couchings that you can buy with the back like fifteen
bucks apiece.
Speaker 4 (03:12):
Yeah, No, I mean that's definitely it helps.
Speaker 5 (03:15):
Yeah, And that's that well, that's money that goes back
to the university. Number one.
Speaker 6 (03:20):
Part of it is the vendor and part of its university.
And then the other part is I you know, I'm
fortunate enough to be able to afford decent seats, but
I got to be honest, I used to be.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
For what I paid for the seats that we.
Speaker 6 (03:36):
Had last week, I could almost buy one season ticket
in a reasonably good area. So they have gotten way
out of hand as far as the cost is concerned,
and it does hold back a certain audience, particularly when
the economy is struggling. But I will say this, I
was really happy for coach Brennan, the players, the coaches
(04:01):
and everybody because he's obviously got their attention. They're playing
with passion and commitment, and you just got to tip
your hat to these young men and out there and
all their support staff that them.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
Yeah. Is that what you tweeted me or texted me
on Saturday or so whatever or was it? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (04:22):
Yeah? And they played with discipline. They weren't you know,
they didn't get crazy or anything. They really stayed focused
to the task that the coaches have prepared for them.
And uh, Coach Brennan obviously has a positive influence for
these young men. And you, just like I said, you
just got to tip your hat to these guys.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Sometimes there comes moments in a time or whatever, and
that it was a perfect time for them to kind
of put it all together. I don't know, it's about timing.
Speaker 6 (04:52):
Yeah, but he's been building on it. You could tell
that he's been building up to this because all season
long they seemed to play much more committed to the
game plan. You know, they had their failures, but guess what,
life is full of failures. You only succeed thirty three
percent of the time in baseball. So I'll take that
three hundred batting average all day long.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Thank you, Rick for the.
Speaker 6 (05:16):
College All right, guys, thank you.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Go ahead, go continue.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
Uh, Michael Perdue and din I have Trammel scored fifteen
each in women's basketball win. And of course the Friday
night throwdown between Arizona UCLA and Honor of Bill Walton.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
Yeah, it was just a good game. You thought they
were gonna lose, then you didn't think they're gonna lose,
and then they didn't lose.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Yeah. You know, I unfortunately had some stuff that came
up that I needed to go to, but I listened
to the last five minutes on the radio XM radio.
I think, yeah, and that's really it and the story
of the game, rebounding, veteran leadership taking over, and and
second chance points. I mean, I know they only had twelve,
but when you out rebound UCLA like that and you
(06:00):
have a guy in Jane and Bradley who's a closer,
makes a big difference.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I did not hear or see Cronin. I did not
see it, so I didn't know if he went off
or whatever. Probably not happy. He probably wasn't happy, but
I don't think he exploded. Yeah. Well, we didn't hear anything,
any tweets or.
Speaker 4 (06:16):
He didn't have any twos on media to yell at this.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Time, so i'd expect it from you for Justin.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
But Anthony did also off the bench with twenty points.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
Yeah, that was that was a huge thing too. We
might I'm not gonna go there just yet. We might
have found some three point makers there.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
The shooting from the pros, yeah, yeah, because that was
he's shooting confidently.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yeah, confidently, that's the word. He's shooting him without hesitation. Yeah,
And you're not gonna get games like that all the time. No,
but but.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Because if you could get one game from him like that,
then have another game with Duane Aristode doing that. Yeah,
Raydon Burry's has the potential to do that. Okay, you
got some options. You just need options, right, A great point.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Oh you're on the air nine the ball. Who's this.
Speaker 7 (07:03):
O?
Speaker 8 (07:03):
Hey?
Speaker 2 (07:03):
This is Bernie Bernie.
Speaker 5 (07:06):
Hey, you know you guys are talking about attendants there.
You're a football.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Yeah, you know what I say.
Speaker 5 (07:12):
I've been going to ul a football since there moved
to Jim Larubob Weber coaches and I just time it's
my cousin. Before they expanded the east side, no matter
what game it was, except for an issue, the southwest
corner was always empty when there's a forty thousands each stadium. Yeah,
so you know it's been that way since. You know,
(07:34):
I've been going, Like I say, since the sixties. Attendents
at football games has been an issue, and the problem was,
you know, you got to be just talking about the
transplants and stuff. But you know how many two sellons
I know, and it's never an gone to una football game.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yeah, exactly, exactly, And you've been doing for years now
at least.
Speaker 5 (07:52):
Yeah, more. Yeah, more than that sixteen years.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
So let me let me throw this at you, because
you go to games and you know the history. Blah
blah blah. Would it be smart at least? I'm not
saying I'm smarter whatever. But to make it smaller, make
it the make it the forty five, it the forty two.
Speaker 7 (08:12):
Yeah, I think so because remember when Tim Young came
into town, it was a forty thousand seats stadium and
there were salas and Stanley room only tickets. When he
started winning, that's when they they went crazy and built
a fifty six fifty eight thousand seat stadium. At the time,
it looked good. And then they say, then, you know,
we had some lean years and and like you, Quinn
(08:33):
Stuts came. I mean, we had a lot of sellouts.
Even when Larry Smith came wasn't our coach, we had
a lot of sellouts. You know, we had some big
games in you know, the Pac twelve, Notre Day came
to town and you know, it sold out. Granted we
weren't on TV every week either, you know, and stuff
like that. Yeah, that has a big impact. Now, you know,
TV has a huge impact. You know, you know, we're
(08:55):
always talking about excuses of going to the games. You know, Saturday,
people are gonna go because the traffic's blocked because the
two of the Tucson you know, or something.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Well depends where the town you're coming from. But there's
you get there, I mean.
Speaker 7 (09:08):
Enough, it's not yeah, there is no I'll be there,
you know, I'll go early and if tailgates and stuff.
But and then you know they say, well, maybe we
do group pricing discounts. Well, another thing that doesn't go
with it. I work for when the city of tooth
I had a concession division. I worked that division and
we did High Corbett and the golf course there. But
(09:29):
when we did the total games, when people paid to
get in, they spent the money. It's when it was free,
free admission, people didn't spend the money. Yeah, you know,
you can't get you can't say you'll make it up
in concessions because your average, you know, per person goes
way down and because people didn't pay to get in. Yeah,
(09:50):
I don't buy something, but it's only gonna be one
thing or two things, not like you know a lot
of people go. You know, how many beers can somebody have,
you know, or hot dogs and stuff. So, but three
isn't always good.
Speaker 2 (10:02):
Yeah, good point. Thanks for the thanks for Colin, thanks
for listening. Appreciate that. Yeah, appreciate it. Okay, good call.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
I just want to remind people, Brent Brennan, you can't
drink all day if you don't start in the morning.
Quote of the season if you don't.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
If you don't, you can't win them all if you
don't win the first one.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
But Arizona basketball four and no, they got a big
matchup this Wednesday at Yukon, number three Yukon.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
It will be a number.
Speaker 3 (10:30):
Three versus number four, five o'clock, five o'clock clock, right
right for the show. And of course Arizona football is
a big win in Cincinnati. They now have the series
lead one zero. But big news from that game also,
o Fafida becomes the all time leader in passing touchdowns
at Arizona.
Speaker 4 (10:50):
Yeah, and you know, we kind of brought this up
up there. I think we're going to bring it up
on there today. Uh, where is he staying in Arizona
football history in terms of quarterback? Obviously statistically he's going
to be number one. Yea, it depends how you raid it.
But if you talk about skills. I still think Willie
Tutama and Nick Foles are better quarterbacks, but just a
(11:11):
tremendous career, and it speaks volumes to an era where
everybody's leaving the chooses stay twice and have this you
know come your way.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
You did mention that on the postgame postgame interview. No,
I did not talking about people are still chasing him. Yeah,
people still want him to go somewhere else. I believe it,
and I'm sure you can make some coin. Utah really
wanted him. They got their guy.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
But yeah, he didn't play this weekend, didn't No, Yeah,
it was the other dude.
Speaker 2 (11:41):
Okay, well you know what you're saying. Yeah, yeah, you
know who knows throw the right amount of money at him.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
Arizona now seventy and three, last home game of the
season this Saturday at eleven o'clock on TNT against the
Baylor Bears.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
I asked Jay this. I can't remember if he gave
me an answer for that. Maybe does could Arizona turning
to a football You guys are younger than me, but
I think the guy before could answer that question.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
No, because no, because just the over amount of support
and history of the basketball program for you to do that.
You're talking about not only getting to a college football playoffs,
playing for a national title game, winning a national title,
and having sustained success. You're talking about having an investment
of Nike like at Oregon, flow through your pro You
(12:33):
need a little bit of luck, a lot of luck
to go your way for that to happen.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
We're gonna cut it early. That way we can get
coach way. So let's go to break.

Streamy live on the Ihearts Radio, while this is Eye
on the Ball with Steve Rivera on Fox Sports fourteen fifty.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Hey, welcome back to Any on the Ball here on
Fox Sports fourteen fifty. I'm Steve Vera and today was
Troy Hunchison and we've got one of controls now on
the phone. Former you of a White Reaver wide receiver
star Bobby Waite. Bobby, how you doing?
Speaker 5 (17:42):
Going very good? Are you? Yeh?
Speaker 2 (17:44):
Doing fine? You should be feeling pretty good. You guys
had a fantastic night or day on Saturday. How did you?
How would you review it?
Speaker 5 (17:53):
I thought it was a good collective effort by the
group receiver group, and then obviously as off as a whole,
just being able to speak on that. I thought the
boys really came out with the mindset of, you know,
wanting to be the most physical group and did a
great job throughout the week and preparation as far as
the details and understanding, uh, you know, having to make
(18:15):
some plays on the perimeter and and some really clutch moments.
So I thought overall it was a it was a
great performance and it was a great team win.
Speaker 2 (18:24):
What what clicked? It's not that they hadn't done it before,
but Saturday is always watching the game. I'm thinking there's
there's a difference in this team. With these this group,
it's almost a strut or some kind of thing that
you guys had.
Speaker 5 (18:38):
Yeah, I think it's the moment, you know. I think
these boys, they tend to show up in these moments,
especially in the clutch moments, and and they've been wanting
that opportunity to be able to you know, be really
big on third downs. And we had a couple of
four down opportunities that were huge, and then uh, you know,
(18:58):
Cincinnati came out and played a bunch of men, and
so that creates opportunities on a perimeter and then more
particularly man press, and so that's a strength of ours.
I would like to think as a group, we put
a lot of time in working on press release and
you know, using our hands and being accurate with our
feet and our steps, and then just just being physical
(19:19):
and being aggressive to the ball.
Speaker 15 (19:20):
When the ball is in the air.
Speaker 5 (19:21):
And you've seen, you know a few of those opportunities
by the guys on a perimeter. So I thought the
opportunity presented itself and the boys are just you know,
just right there.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
And ready for it. Obviously, kind of all season it's
been a collective effort in terms of going seven, eight,
nine deep at times at the receiver position, with guys
getting different looks and catches. But Chris Hutson this felt
like he's had good games before, but kind of a
breakout game to the rest of the country or UA
fans that really haven't noticed them. Stand out. Eight catches,
(19:52):
I think over one hundred yards, no touchdowns, but just
the clinics that he put on route running and body
positioning in the communication showing to Noah in that game
against Cincinnati. Just your thoughts on his performance and how
he was able to come up with clutch catch after
clutch catch.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
Yeah, it was great to see Chris and Noah connect
and then the consistency of Noah having you know, a
lot of trust in Chris in those clutch situations about
Chris probably had his best week of practice and so
you know, we put a lot of focus in the
preparation and understanding that you know, it's going to give
(20:28):
you your best chance to be successful on Saturday. And Chris,
you know, he really took that challenge this week. Uh,
you know, he he's an exceptional route runner. You know,
he has really good body control. You know, he's great
hands and so you know, you saw the ball that
he played off his seat on the faith ball, I
thought was you know, really special and just a great
(20:49):
play by him. And but like you said, the route running,
being dynamic at the top of the route, really emphasizing
being about about being efficient out of the break, and
you know, all the technique stuff that we've been talking
and working and drilling. It's really great to see it
come to life in the game and him have that success.
So super proud of his his his growth in that space,
(21:11):
and not only that, but also just playing a great
team game from him and understanding that you know, as
a senior, it's it's tough. Naturally, you're you're battling, you know,
the inside of wanting to you know, get so many
touches and targets, and sometimes you forget about what the
team needs. And Chris is a good team player, and
(21:31):
you really showed that on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
Your group would not have the success it's had, especially
last weekend, without the quarterback throwing from the ball right,
and you can see that that they're all in sync
now at least that showed it on Saturday. Could you
talk to know you talk about knowing he kind of
really did just recently, but maybe what what they mean
to him and vice versa.
Speaker 5 (21:53):
Yeah, that's the most important connection you can have on
the team, the quarterback with the with the catchers, and
so just the time they put in in the spring,
in summer and then obviously fall camp. I think you're
really starting to see this late in the season, which
is typically when you when you want to see it.
And then the work of them just showing up the
(22:13):
practice consistently as well, and Noah does an exceptional job
with preparation. He does great with communicating with those guys,
same with the guys communicating back with him. I thought
we was the most vocal game that we've had from
Noah and the receivers on the sideline. And so, you know,
there's only so much we can do as coaches with
(22:34):
the iPads, and you know, adjustments, the real adjustments come from,
you know, the player, the player communication.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
Noah did a great job with.
Speaker 5 (22:42):
D consistently giving updates about what he's looking for, what
he wants to see from the guys, same as the
same exact thing from the players coming back and letting
them know, hey, we're seeing a bunch of men out here.
You know, we're winning these releases. We're faster than these guys.
Get it up. You know, we'll come down with the football.
So just that communication in relationships that they're building with
(23:02):
the actual on the field work is really it's really
fun to see and it really makes our job easy
as coaches.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
You know, one guy that's kind of battled through injuries
during his last year in high school and then getting
ready for the season is Geo Richardson and just his
progression not only throughout the season, but really in that
game because he had moments. Obviously the touchdown catch from Nofafida,
having that big moment kind of putting I don't want
(23:30):
to say the game on ice, but putting you guys
in a strong lead there. He bounces back from having
a drop earlier in the game where he was pretty
open and it seemed like he just made the wrong
play on the ball. But just seeing him progress and
having the mental ability to forget about that play and
just move on.
Speaker 5 (23:51):
Yeah, the mental fortitude to be able to get that
done and stuff, especially for a true freshman, and that
I'll have a lot to do, and with the communication
with me and him on the sideline as well, understanding
you know the ball that first one, he ran a
great route. We made an adjustment late in the week
that was that was a crucial detail on that route
that he executed perfectly. And then to come out at
(24:13):
the top and you know, the ball kind of got
on him fast and and you know what's great about
g O. He doesn't make no excuses about it. You know,
he's able to take the coaching and then he's able
to move on from it and bring some closure to it.
But he simply just needed to turn his hands around.
It's difficult to catch a ball when your hands are
behind your eyes. So you know, he took the coaching,
you know, didn't let it bother the rest of his game.
(24:35):
He just he could tell the way he loves the
game of football so much, just in his you know,
his ability to be physical in the run game, even
when he's getting limited reps. H he has great energy
on the sideline and so you know those teams, those
type of kids and players, when they have great energy
like that, they tend to just you know, the ball
seems to find him and that's exactly what that was.
(24:58):
It was a great call by coach Dagi and and
Geo had a true man and man coverage there. And
you know, Geo's one of the fastest kids of the
nation and to see him run away from that and
security catching end zone was really big for him and
really big for our team in that moment.
Speaker 2 (25:12):
I'm not sure how it was. I can't remember how
it was for you back in the day. But let
me say this. You have a bunch of guys, right,
a bunch of dudes you can fill in and play.
How cool is it or whatever word you want to use,
where you have a mixed bag of dudes and they're
probably all pushing each other to get better. And guess
who benefits the coach because you have a lot of
different ways to go. How cool is that? Because you
(25:33):
have a lot of different things.
Speaker 5 (25:36):
Yeah, that's fun. And it can be difficult at times
because they naturally are very competitive and you know they
all have dreams, you know, of playing on Sunday and
so but I think the culture that we built within
the room and within his team is it's a healthy competition.
(25:57):
So it really is about accountability and you know what
you put on tape is exactly you know how what
it is. You know, that's your resume. So these guys
are really focused on being their very best each and
every day. In the midst of that, they are very
close groups, so they hang out together, they communicate well,
and I think what that does is is build a
trust it and it builds a healthy competition that you know,
(26:21):
they can be their very best understanding that they can
make mistakes and they can get through it. And then
it's not going to be career ending are you know,
It's not something that the guys are just going to
really you know, beat you up about. But it's more
or less about, hey, you can do better. Let's find
another way to get that right. And so I think
with that, each and every day they bring the right
(26:41):
attitude and the right energy. So it makes it really
fun to coach.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
The group is and that's half the battle, right energy,
effort and confidence all this What did you realize, whatever
type that you have something with this group, What.
Speaker 5 (26:57):
Was great is we have had this group complete in
the spring, right, So that was probably the biggest factor
for this group to be able to come together and
what you're seeing on the field now. So I've had
them since January, So a lot of the technique things
we've really worked through early in spring in the everyday drills,
(27:22):
we continue to work and continue to get better at those.
But I think that the coaching style and then their
ability to be able to respond to me and Coach
Deggi and Coach Brennan and the staff is really shows
up because they want to be coached and they're eager
to get pushed because they understand that the better they
(27:44):
are individually, the better this team is, but not to
put themselves in front of the team as well. So
it's the culture that you try to build that Coach
Brennan has been doing such a great job about and
you know we talk about redline. You hear it all
the time. It's really big in our room as well.
But you know, from spring, the key was having that
group together complete in the spring, you know, kind of
(28:06):
to go.
Speaker 4 (28:07):
Not sidetrack, but another Arizona football thing going on. This
past weekend, Tetroo McMillan had his best game in his
young career in the NFL. Eight catches, one hundred and
thirty yards and two touchdowns. I'm not sure if you
got to see it, but just seeing him have success
at that high level and kind of this moment of yeah,
(28:29):
this is why he's that dude on an NFL stage.
That's got to make you feel a certain kind of
way coaching them in just the u of a pride,
the alumni pride.
Speaker 5 (28:41):
No, there's no doubt. I'm super excited for him, happy
for him. You know, he's probably one of the hardest
working kids, and he's caught a lot of you know,
flat kid getting out in the port at getting out
of with even staying here at Arizona and obviously getting
prepared to go to the to the NFL, and you
(29:01):
know that's just how it is. You know, guys are
going to tear you down and try to rip you
apart and find out what kind of player you really are.
I think it's the guys in the building that really
had the same belief of what we're seeing Team AC
do now is exactly what I don't want to say expected,
but we anticipated and what we believe him to be.
So it's great to see it translate from the University
(29:24):
of Arizona to such a big stage and so fast,
and I hope it just gets all our guys excited too.
That even even the kids in the in the recruiting
world that want to be a part of uh, you know,
the University of Arizona understanding that, you know, we have
guys that are not only getting to the NFL, but
are are successful and successful early.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
You know.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
So I'm just I pray for him all the time.
I actually got a chance to play time with him
yesterday after the game, and you know, he's just continuing
to look onto the next step and just trying to
find ways consistently to get better and to help his
team win.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
It's fun to see four months ago whatever it was
the press of traditional press conference when we had with
you guys to start the season in the stadium there
the Dome stadium, I asked you about Brendan and blah
blah blah. What do you think is kind of like
vindication for him as well as you guys are playing,
because a lot of people were seeing a poo poo
(30:18):
in him, But now you know he has seventy and
three YadA YadA and moving forward and playing really well. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (30:25):
I don't know if coach Brandan thinks that way. I
think he really had a lot of belief in his
ability to be able to build this. So I don't
think it's really what He doesn't have a concern about
what others are thinking about it. It's more or less
focusing on what he can control, and that's you know,
getting the best staff around these boys, having the staff
that believes in the players, believe in this university, and
(30:48):
then him just continuing to drive what he believes to
be the work that works, which is, you know, the
red Line model, something that we've really hammered home that
helped change the culture. I think the other part about
that is just the consistency you know that he brings
every single time he talks in front of the team.
It is very consistent. His energy is always high h
(31:10):
and we believe in the direction that he's going, in
the direction that we're going. And so the more the
more that we focus on what's in this building and
obviously bringing the actual the wins to Tucson, and it
just makes you feel good because you know the boys
deserve it so much, and you know the staff works
(31:30):
so hard to try to give you the best product
on the field every Saturday. It just feels good to
be able to support to come true. Uh.
Speaker 4 (31:38):
You know, one last thing that I wanted to talk
to you about because I know you know Coach Nivar,
he is, your guys, a special teams coach, but you
do play a role in terms of the return game,
the kick return and all that, because you've been a
returner yourself. Just the job Luke Weisson's done. I know
he had that one thing against Cincinnati, but you got
he's been terrific back there this season since he moved
(31:59):
into the punt return just to stabilizing for as he's
been for the special teams unit as the punt returner
for you guys.
Speaker 5 (32:07):
Yeah, Luke is just a fantastic player. You know, he's
great to coach in my room as a receiver. He's
probably the most unselfish player in that room and one
of the guys most unselfish players on his team. He
would do absolutely anything for his team. But his skill
set back there definitely helps us. His decision making process
(32:28):
is extremely team oriented, so it's very focused on not
him as an individual, but more or less what the
team needs, and that's what sneedback there because it's such
a hard position to play, to be back there, especially
in those clutch moments. Obviously, the mishalb last week with
you know, a decision at the split decision to decide.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
To let that ball rolls.
Speaker 5 (32:50):
It's the learning, learning situation for him. You know, it's
great to be able to have the offense that we
were able to, you know, put that ninety nine yard
drive together. And so you know, we all believe in
Luke and his ability to help us back there. And
then when the ball is in his hand, he he
has the real opportunity to score every single time. So
we're just looking forward to more opportunities for him to
(33:11):
have back there. And I'm just I'm just ecstatic to
have him as a returner because he really makes us
all feel more comfortable.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Well that's coach, Bobby Wade, you coach, at you a
thank you.
Speaker 5 (33:22):
Coach, appreciate you guys, thank you.
Speaker 2 (33:25):
Yeah, good stuff, good stuff, good stuff. There was something
I wanted to say, confidence or whatever. Yeah, I don't
get old. Uh just oh you know how the confident
thing that ninety nine yard drive.
Speaker 4 (33:41):
Yeah, that doesn't happen, No, because if that happens to you,
and again he mentioned it, Yeah, it kind of was
an in between decision. I thought he probably should have
fielded it. Called the faircats fielded it. Yeah, but you're
there if you if you don't have the confidence in
your quarterback and you're an offense that goes out there,
you're thinking it doesn't happen, like you're probably going through
out turnover or safety. Yeah. They ran the ball first
(34:03):
play six yards, just like seven.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
It's strange because we got a couple of minutes, right,
we got because of the BYU game. So I didn't
go to the game. You were at the game, and
I don't know if you felt this, but there was
BYU was down ten minutes, well how many minutes, and
not once did I think that they're gonna win or
lose or whatever. But you saw BUYU. They were calm,
(34:25):
composed and they went about their business. They went about
their business, they were not panicky. It was like a
sense that we got this, dude, we don't want to worry.
We're gonna win this.
Speaker 4 (34:33):
They didn't get out of their own bodies too, And
I think that's one of the main things, because you
see a lot of people try to do perfect much perfect.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Guess what. I felt the same way about Arizona. I
mean weird, but yes, yeah, I.
Speaker 3 (34:45):
Think I almost texted you that about five minutes left,
I said, Arizona's gonna win this because they don't look
rattled all right, right, And.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
You can tell I don't know. I could see that
in BYU they were flustered. Ay, we got three minutes,
don't worry, you got this. Arizonas just felt that way
and on the and Arizona struggled on third down a
lot this season. Offensively, they have struggled every third down.
On that drive and on the final drive to seal it,
to really seal it. I had no doubt that they
(35:16):
were going to pick up those downs even though, because
so because just the way they're going about their business
and how how they're going to the line, how they
set themselves up in those situations. And even with the
pass that Noah pro I don't think he probably should
have made, but it got there. The pass to Luke
Wison to pick up that third down that was nearly
picked off, I didn't. I didn't think he was going
(35:38):
to pick it off.
Speaker 5 (35:39):
Now.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
Was it a dangerous throw?
Speaker 8 (35:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (35:41):
Would he not throw that again? Probably not.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
But I've last you guys just too got it done.
You believe in fate.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
I believe sometimes the ball bounces your way. Ask for
Chrodriguez with his ten win season at Arizona, a hill
Mary a trick play against Washington.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Let me say this, this doesn't have up to Arizona
very often. No, and it's happening, or at least in
one or two games that's happened.
Speaker 4 (36:05):
But I will also counter to that point because I
think that rich Rod season a lot of luck went
into that ten win season. Jed, No, they were just better. Sure,
they're getting to the point now are they like Jed's team? No, No,
but they're getting to the point where they're just it's
not a lot of they're just better.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
You got two gery games that could change that because
even Kansas State, they could have easily lost that game.
The dude kicked the miss the field goal, but they
drove and they and they won. You're thinking that's that's different,
and then they continued it last week or over the weekend.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
Most games watching Arizona throughout my life on the road,
you missed two field goals to cut the deficit. Guess
what the next couple drives that offense that you're going
up against is gonna score in the game, is gonna
be over and you're gonna look at those two plays.
There was none of that. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
In fact, had Arizona hit a couple of field goals,
it's a different game too. I mean, couldn could have
may've be worse. Okay, let's take a break and come back,
take some calls.

Speaker 20 (42:10):
Ye Hey, I'm not a little mouth in the pocket.
Speaker 2 (42:15):
What do you think?
Speaker 7 (42:16):
You know?
Speaker 11 (42:16):
It was?
Speaker 20 (42:17):
It was a great weekend. And uh and uh, Troy
knows my nephew, and we had a bet that they
beat Cincinnati. We're gonna go Saturday. And he goes, don't worry,
we don't gotta go Saturday. So I guess we're I
guess we're going.
Speaker 4 (42:31):
You're going Saturday? Nice, I'm sure, Like I was talking
to Steve Jay will be out there tail tail getting
you know, some Chorriso, some a new though something like
that usually has really good tailgating food. So go see Jay.
Speaker 8 (42:44):
I will hit him up for sure.
Speaker 2 (42:46):
So what did you think about basketball? And then we'll
go to football real quick.
Speaker 20 (42:51):
I mean just top of the world, man, I was
on cloud nine, honestly. Uh watched it with closed eyes
or peeking through my eye that first when they U.
Speaker 8 (43:01):
C l a start uh bullying them around a little bit,
but you know, experience took over, and that experience took
over in the in the football game with Noah threatening
a needle and you know, uh, what.
Speaker 20 (43:16):
Did your kids say on Friday? If Noah throws and
they catch' was gonna win.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
And that's exactly what happened.
Speaker 20 (43:23):
Exactly what happened. So I was on top of the world.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
See you knock out live one more quick thing? Your
thoughts on the casino being the sponsor or name?
Speaker 8 (43:34):
I like it, You can't.
Speaker 20 (43:36):
It's you know, you got to move forward nowadays, got
to move forward nowadays. And then it's somebody local.
Speaker 7 (43:45):
The reservation thing. So I mean it's gonna be okay.
Speaker 20 (43:49):
Maybe it'll take a little bit of curse off the
building on Indian Land and stuff.
Speaker 2 (43:54):
Okay, no, but I movie with the times. I think
that's a good way to put it.
Speaker 5 (43:58):
Okay, thanks, heck yeah, thanks, okay, take care guy.
Speaker 3 (44:03):
Continuing with some college basketball, Houston barely survived at Auburn.
Speaker 2 (44:11):
On the road seventy three seventy two. Makes that game
more interesting here, very very interesting because we kind of
set up he's not gonna cut.
Speaker 4 (44:19):
You know, it's got a pretty good team. It's be
a pretty good game. We'll see what I mean, what
what Alibury team? Is that the one that did that
or the one that who was it that they beat
in overtime by like five?
Speaker 3 (44:30):
Yeah, some lower team Troy. Every game is a season
yde games this season. Looking at the NBA, you have
the Pistons on top of the East at eleven and two,
the Thunder on top of the West at thirteen and one.
News came out today for the San Antonio Spurs. Victor
wibin Yama out for a few weeks with the left
calfs train, so they're going to try to hold on
(44:50):
to the play seed.
Speaker 2 (44:55):
Uh did you get a glimpse of Draymond? Draymond and
the fan fan.
Speaker 4 (45:00):
I didn't see anything about. I really didn't pay to
I heard there was a tweet about something. I don't
I don't know what happened.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
The fan was calling him angel rees for having a
lot of rebounds and no points.
Speaker 2 (45:10):
No, is that what he was doing? Yeah, so it
just taxing the whole game more than likely.
Speaker 4 (45:17):
You know what, he didn't cuss that, He didn't.
Speaker 2 (45:21):
He didn't really get into his face.
Speaker 3 (45:22):
They were just kind of closer than usual and just talking,
having a nice conversation, pleasantries.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
That was kind of that's hysterical. Yeah, Jamn just needs
to play basketball.
Speaker 3 (45:33):
Tetaro McMillan, like Troy, has brought up a couple of times.
Eight receptions one hundred and thirty yards, two touchdowns and
the go ahead touchdown to beat the Falcons in overtime.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
Kickers did well too, didn't they?
Speaker 4 (45:43):
Yeah they did?
Speaker 2 (45:44):
Yeah. Uh, Tyler Loop had a good game.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
Yeah, and uh well, having sex been in games and
nick Fole yeah well yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:54):
And then of course the Broncos survived the thriller with
the Chieves on the last second field goal twenty two
to nineteen. They are now on top of the AFC
at nine and two they're going to their bye week.
Speaker 2 (46:04):
You're looking toy.
Speaker 4 (46:04):
Best team in football and I will live on the
best team in football.
Speaker 2 (46:08):
You always hear that shirt on Monday too. I up
to this point, that's a good luck my Monday shirt.
Victory Monday should door standers made his NFL debut, Yes,
didn't well. Did did not go well?
Speaker 3 (46:21):
Trying to get up his stat line here, but it's
due to the fact that Gabriel went out with the
concussion or injury. But four of sixteen forty seven yards
in an interception. Hey, I know people were like, why
wasn't he in the top three round? This is why
I'm sorry. It's not An NFL quarterback Michael Pennix is
(46:42):
expected to miss the rest of the season with a
knee injury. You have the Bengals wide receiver Jamar Cha
suspended for one game. First pitty on Jaylen Ramsey and then,
of course big news in college football Virginia Tech finalizing
a deal to hire James Franklin, former state head coach.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
The new coaches, old coaches or new coaches again?
Speaker 4 (47:05):
Home run Higher. I love the sire by Virginia Tech.
Talk about a conference you can dominate Clemson's kind of
right now, and you're going to poach a lot of
players from Penn State, and you're.
Speaker 2 (47:15):
Going to steal a lot of their recruits. That's the
hell out of that area. That's a good point. Yeah,
depends who they hire. Is Kiffin is still going to
go to Florida?
Speaker 6 (47:24):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (47:24):
I don't think so.
Speaker 2 (47:25):
Well, there's is now that he's in the front running
for l s U. I think LSU would be more interesting.
I don't think Florida is a good job. Where's the
aura of Florida. They've mucked it up so many times
now to me, it's much better than LSU too much
b B S l SU.
Speaker 4 (47:43):
Well who brought that there?
Speaker 8 (47:44):
Though?
Speaker 2 (47:45):
Well Kelly, right, Kelly and the governor, the governor, the
president of the university. There's so many politics and involved
in all these things. Okay, l s U. But I
still I want to say Florida I think he stays.
I can see that, I can see that's what you've
been saying.
Speaker 3 (48:03):
But it's a little bit concerning that there hasn't been
some sort of extension or signing more years, more money,
and and.
Speaker 4 (48:10):
And you know what, Well, I was going to go
to that point I bet you it's out there. Similarly,
the Jets, the contract was there for him and the coaches.
It was just a matter of time, and he no,
he kept it away from them. He was not signing
it because he knew he was going to Washington. So
if you're not signing that contract, you're probably leaving.
Speaker 2 (48:28):
What do you think about his situation because it's uh,
he had a pressure cover this last week.
Speaker 4 (48:32):
Do you believe so?
Speaker 3 (48:32):
Yeah, saying people don't know what's going on in the program.
He's happy here at Washington.
Speaker 2 (48:37):
Pulled off a big win against Purdue, and whatever win
points wise.
Speaker 4 (48:42):
Okay, not I thought you dominating, dominating, I see what
you're saying.
Speaker 2 (48:46):
Okay, he's there. Will he be there next year? Nope? Yes,
I like this, Oh yes, because.
Speaker 4 (48:54):
I don't think UCLA is a good enough job, in
a good enough position to steal them away. And I
just don't think Florida is gonna be like, hey, Jad
come here. I just don't think the right jobs are
open up at the right time in yours.
Speaker 3 (49:07):
I want obviously the big news not big news, but
the glaring news is that his family doesn't like Seattle.
There's a reason they move back to Tucson. And yes,
it's a valid reason to want his daughter to finish
out with the same school and have some stability. But
I do think he moves to u C l A
because they won't be playing the Rose Bowl.
Speaker 7 (49:29):
Now.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
Granted, so far won't be a great crowd.
Speaker 4 (49:33):
They're gonna do that eighty million dollars to leave how.
Speaker 2 (49:35):
They don't have any money. It's a casino.
Speaker 4 (49:38):
Don't cashing empty checks.
Speaker 2 (49:41):
What's a and then you gotta play something.
Speaker 3 (49:44):
It's not gonna be still not gonna be probably amazing
crowd at so far, but you're right there next to
two NFL organizations.
Speaker 4 (49:51):
And you're gonna have to pay, so FI probably be
in there. I just think, look, La, Yes, I get
at people like l A and this is this and that,
But you want Florida, you want the NFL. I think
you're gonna probe on that even more if you do that.
And too, you're in the same conference as the program
you're in, and you're in a much better position. You
(50:11):
know how hard it is going to be for UCLA
to make any leeway in the big ten.
Speaker 2 (50:15):
Oh it's forever, yeah, if they do it all. It
was hard in the Pack ten pack for the Yeah,
we'll see what happens. It could be the death and
mill of him too. Yeah, it could end as a
head coach. Welcome to be in a QB coach in
the NFL.
Speaker 4 (50:28):
Again.
Speaker 3 (50:30):
I don't know if you saw the initial opening line
for Saturday. It was at four and a half. It's
now bumped up to six and a half for Arizona.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
Six and a half. Yeah, that's the right.
Speaker 5 (50:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (50:40):
Oh, by the way, when I meant when I said Washington,
when I say Kansas State, Yeah, Kansas in that game. Yeah,
six and a half, six and a half. I'll cover
bayl Are any good. I don't think Baylor's okay. They
have dynamic players offensively, but they're.
Speaker 3 (50:56):
They're explosive offense. Might keep them in the game, but
we'll see.
Speaker 4 (51:00):
But even with that, their star receiver is going to
be out the first half after punching somebody in the
previous game.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
You gotta go already, and so yeah, okay, thanks, thanks
for your thoughts, but we gotta go. Yeah, bro, you
watch that jersey next time I see or that shirt
whatever it is. I'm d Denver bro because thanks to everybody,
good show, Thanks for the call. Somebody calls, appreciate it.
Talk to you guys tomorrow.
