Speaker 1 (00:00):
Steve Rivera, he's got his eye on the ball on
Tucson Sports Station yet Fox Sports fourteen fifth day.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Hey, welcome back to in the ball. Here on Fox
Sports fourteen fifty I'm Steve Rivera. Your jigensaus. Now we
have breaking news from one from break God.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
Oh my god, you're the worst lot because all Mexicans
do not look alike.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
Okay, the music doesn't want to play.
Speaker 3 (00:30):
It, all right, I forget it. So that's what we're
going with.
Speaker 4 (00:32):
But break news for today is obviously the Colorado game
tomorrow starts at four pm. It is going to be
in Colorado, so find a good place to watch it.
Before that, the women's basketball team got a win yesterday,
the first win under coach Becky Burke fifty nine exhibition games.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah yeah, yeah, they lost, so ray, come on, man,
you hat to cover it, right, It's give me a
tough year. Yeah, it's gonna be a tough We all
kind of know that. But it's gonna be a tough year.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Yeah, and you and I mean it was. You know,
they started from scratch. A lot of you know, just
cleared that cleared the decks, and you know, you give
this coach some time to do this. But you know,
I mean, she's got she's got the history, she's got
the you know, belief. So yeah, just let them. Let
them do it. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
So their first game is going to be next week
on Thursday against UC Riverside.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
They have their first like ten games, right or whatever
it is here.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Oh, at home.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
They're not going anywhere.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Yeah, they're staying at home pretty much until the second
conference game.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
That's gonna be in Boulder against Colorado. Wow. All their
non conference games are here. Yeah. Interesting Yeah, good for them. Yeah,
interesting stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
The cross country team had their Big Twelve championship today.
I believe the men finished in eighth and the women
in fourteenth place. Top scorers I guess finishers I guess
would be Evan Evans Tanoi. He came in twenty eighth, lollie. Oh,
that's a tough one for I'm just say he came
(02:09):
in forty first place. Michael urban Urbenski came in forty fourth,
Bryson Nielsen came in forty sixth, and Max Leau came
in fifty fifth. So that is how they wrapped up
their Big Twelve championship. The soccer team ended their season
last night on a tie with Arizona State here at
(02:32):
in Tucson, So that that's us the record, you know,
it is seven eleven and one.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Yah, it's not good.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Remember when she first came on board and we had
her on the show right away and looked at each
other's She's pretty good, but she's tough kind of I
don't know what's gonna happen now.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
Tough call basketball team will be starting their season officially
in regular play on Monday at four.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Did you decide to go to the Yeah, I'm going
on Sunday even say yeah, it's.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Going to be in Vegas. It's obviously going to be
against Florida, so that'll be an interesting one.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
Wanting to bring you anything maybe luck, don't bring me anything.
I don't mean anything from you. In fact, if you
don't want to come back, I'm good with that. Less
until football season is over. Jay gave me this tidbit
of information. But uh, former Arizona president Robert Robbins is
(03:30):
one of the three finalists for the LSU president.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
I mean he's from Mississippi, so he's got he's got
ties to the South over there. Yeah, I mean, yeah,
they did they did? You know did that thing get
all screwed up here with the financial piece of it
and stuff like that. Otherwise I thought he.
Speaker 6 (03:46):
Was a really good president and he was a friend
of the show, right yeah, and and and and you know, look,
football runs their university, okay, and it's a mess right now.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
And Robbins is a guy who who knows sports, cares
about who cares about it. And so if he got
the job, I wouldn't be you know, one hundred percent
of price in fact, if i'm him and say, why
would you want that job? And when you got the
governor saying our athletic director is not gonna, you know,
gonna make this next higher and stuff like that, I
(04:20):
don't know that you want to be I don't know
that you want that job. Well, then, what's sixty eight
years old or something like that.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
Well, who was accused of being the coach when he
or the ad when he he was the a d right.
Speaker 3 (04:32):
Right, Bobby, Bobby?
Speaker 2 (04:34):
So who would be the president of the university when
he's the president, the governor.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
The governor. Sure, so, I after what he went through here,
I'm just a little surprised at at this time in
his life that he wants to take that on. That's
why not getting remarried. Ever, Kensey, don't let him talk
to you about marriage or anything like that. Okay, don't
listen to a word this guy says. Okay, thank you disclaimer. Uh,
(05:02):
keeping it going though.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
The Dodgers and the Blue Jays are starting at five.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
They will be playing in Toronto. Uh got anything to say?
Jay Yo Yamamoto, you know he's the guy. It's in
good hand. I think I think it goes to Game
seven and then anything can happen tomorrow five o'clock. So
Yohu had just been he I mean, he was unheittable
last day. He threw a complete game. Hell, he was
(05:31):
ready to come into the nineteen and he was gonna
come in and he was going to come in on Monday.
I think the Dodgers win tonight. They're not hitting very well,
so he's gonna have to pitch really well. You know,
it's gonna have to be a three to two, two
to one game kind of thing. But then whatever happens tomorrow,
you know, anything can happen. All hands on deck for
(05:51):
both teams. You know, you know that glass Night would
would start, would show or maybe show Hey would start
who knows what what they would do there. I mean,
you know, it was really it was a really funny thing.
Have you ever seen that scene? There was a scene
in in do you see the movie Draft Draft Day
Kevin Costner where he's talking to the three guys who
(06:12):
were like supposed to be looking up this quarterback and
try and he says, I'm about to lose my blank
with you guys. And somebody put that on a on
a photo over a photo of show, Hey, Freddy Freeman
and Mookie Bets because none of them are hitting, saying
I'm about to lose my stuff with you guys. That
was pretty cool because they're not hitting, you know, I
(06:34):
mean Mookie was you know in his interview a post
came interview, uh uh the other night said he said,
I've been terrible. Yeah, it's like he's like three for
one hundred and five. I mean he's been he's been awful.
But none of them are hitting. Show he's strike been
striking out all the and with all the homers that
he's hit, if he doesn't hit a homer, he's striking out.
So you know, I know, they got to hit the ball.
They got to put some they gotta score some runs.
Speaker 4 (06:54):
Yeah, Freddy's been good, but ye like he's he usually
shows up for the World Series.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
This was one. Victor wembin Yama is well.
Speaker 4 (07:02):
The Spurs are five and no and I guess it's
the first time in the franchise is history, which I
thought was really surprising. Yeah, but they won one oh
seven to one oh one against the Miami Heat. U
Pela Larson was a starter for them. He had twenty
six minutes, only had five points, though had a couple
of rebounds out of some assists to Carter Bryant didn't
(07:24):
play in this one.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Yeah, just coaches decision. Another big one that happened last night.
The Ravens won twenty eight to six, and then the
Dolphins GM Chris Greer got fired. I the GM, but
not the coach.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Yeah, but I think they're gonna wait till end of
the year.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
For what about Pelly Larson being you know, making making
a roster and being you know, a guy who actually plays. Yeah, seriously, right,
and the starter, I mean, did you think that that
was tough?
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Yacht's tough one. And his guy he's running partner is
there too, isn't he?
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Yeah? Key Shan, Yeah, Kisha. Yeah he didn't play. Yeah,
but he's there. He is there.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Well do you think that Yvon Eyvon guy on you
Way's roster. Now, he's supposed to be a better pell
I haven't seen enough of it. Yeah, it looks a
look thick. He does look like he's a very smart guy.
He played pros already. We'll see Tommy has some choices.
So that's good. He's got some guys.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
Yeah, from what I saw, he cart chunko, right. I
think that's how you say his name. He looked pretty good,
at least at the Saint Mary's game. I had to
watch the the Embry Riddle game.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
And bits and pieces just because I was I wasn't lucky.
Look at you. That was not fun. They need that.
That rule they have in a high school running clock
when you get a certain amount of worst I've got,
I've got. I guess maybe I shouldn't say this. We've
got the game on an iPad, the baseball game on
an iPad next to my my scores computer. And it
(08:46):
was hard, and it was hard to stay focused on
the game because on the on the basketball game, because
that was just a hard watch. I mean, when they
when they walked out the starting landing walked out and
there were two guards that were five to seven. I'm like,
this is like one of those old Saint Gregory Greenfields
basketball games.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
I mean, no introducing the Washington Generals.
Speaker 3 (09:07):
It was. It was tough. It was a tough go.
Speaker 4 (09:11):
Yeah, Travis Hunter is going to be heading to I
R his They said his a c L. It's not
his a c O like his a c L is intact,
but it is a knee issue.
Speaker 3 (09:22):
I don't know. I thought that was a big deal
just because I mean, it's abound to happen right where
wear and tear man just to wear and tear. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
Other big news that came out tonight or this morning
I should say sorry, was a SU's quarterback will be
out for the season with a surgery on his foot.
Speaker 3 (09:39):
It's been nagging him.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
Yeah, like you said, wins are going to come for
very difficult times for them, or or you're gonna be
hard for them.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
I hate to see it.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Yeah, you'll find out he's not an issue.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
Well, it's like, I don't feel bad for the fans,
I feel bad for for Levin you.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
I don't root for guys to get hurt, but when
they do, I'm kind of okay with it. Yeah, so
that's all I'll say. Yeah, talk about his.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Heart that one.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
L SU.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
We already talked about it a little bit. But LSU's
interim A. D Ousbury was given the full authority to
hire a football coach before having a regular Good.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
For him, Kiffin is not going to go there. He's
gonna go to Florida.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
I was listening to some you know, some sports talk
on the today and there's a lot of there's a
lot of discussion that Mississippi might be the better job
than either l s U or Florida and that if
don't be surprised if he doesn't go anywhere, well I
would be. But the money would be the money, it
(10:47):
has to be incredible. But if he's got plenty of
money and doesn't care about all that much about it,
you know, he's got a good gig going over it
over Mississippi.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
He's not gonna leut a title at Mississippi.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
You don't think so, yeah, well, I don't know. Go again,
but think about it. But think about the life, right,
I mean, if you're Ellis, let me put it this way.
If he takes a job, I would think he would
take Florida over ALUs. He's forty eight ish, what is he? Yeah,
I feel like he's about that.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Yeah, forty eight year olds don't think that, Alice.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
You just it is gross. I mean just the politics
of of all of it. You see it this week
I mean yeah, I mean just all of that that
comes with it. I mean, he wouldn't have that at
Florida for certain, for certain, it wouldn't be you know,
he wouldn't have any He's obviously doesn't have any Mississippi.
Why would you want to step into that. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Well, money, money, but it's not worth Florida. He's going
to Florida, nothing else, Nowhere else, Florida, nor.
Speaker 3 (11:40):
That's what I think.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Just looking over at the slate for this weekend for
college wise, at least Penn State and Ohio said are playing.
I know no one thinks it's going to be a game,
but I mean, you know, maybe twenty and a half. Yeah,
you have your picture of your picture, My Vany's going.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
To be at Texas. That is going to be a
good one. I think do we know if if if
if I just playing because he had concussion, right, he
was in concussion program. Yeah, he is a concussion protocol.
They said he was trending towards it, But I think
it's going to be a game time decision.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
Georgia and Florida might be okay. The big one for
the Big twelve I think is Cincinnati and Utah. That's
going to be uh seven fifteen. It's in Utah. I'll
bet you they beat Cincinnati. What's the spread it is?
Speaker 3 (12:26):
According to ESPN, it is Utah by ten and a half.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Wow, that's a lot. Yeah, that's not one of your games, right, No.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Well, I think it's going to be an interesting one
because they have two similar philosophies, you know what I mean,
big running teams.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
That's a lot of big is a lot of points.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
That's interesting.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
It might have to be one of my games. But yeah,
that's it for me. Breaking news, all right, Well, you
know again, going back to the coaching stuff, the betting
favorite for the UCLA job is don't tell me it
can only be one. Is that he's like three to
(13:04):
one to take the u c l A job.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
That wouldn't surprise me. It wouldn't surprise you either.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
I'm sure it would surprise me because Washington's a better job. Yeah,
but he's that's what his family doesn't. Maybe maybe he
goes to l A and his family comes and lives.
That's part of it. Yeah, that could be. That could be.
But that he's the betting favorite to to get the
and that's kind of and he's like the he's like
the third favorite. That's hard. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Do you really think that he's a good coach?
Speaker 3 (13:31):
I mean to that level, he's good enough coach to
be getting to keep getting. Uh what does tell you
about the coaching world? Here's what he is. He's smart
without questions. Okay, he's smart smart and so so that
gets him a long way.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
He didn't get him to this point for no reason.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
So you know. And and by being smart, he brings
he gets people other smart people with him. Yes, so
that that can make you a pretty good coach. Yes,
I agree. Agree, And you see him he's a disaster.
Do you the late Did you see the latest on
that one? They're trying to move out of the road. Yea,
they wanted they want to go play at a so
far and and and the Rose Bull is his final
(14:17):
lawsuit against him.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Even though you bring us ten thousand fans, we still watch.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Please you know, so you know, interesting stuff going over there. Yeah, no,
would you take that job? They there was again another
great story in the athletic they stopped caring about football
when when they when they got carried down here to leave.
Uh and we're talking late yeah, nineties.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
That's a good because because now nobody.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Was Johnny Hugh left because they because they stopped carrying
about football. He decided that they weren't putting enough into it,
they weren't investing in it. And there he was catching
all kinds of crap about, you know, not winning. He
went to five Rose Bowls and it wasn't enough, and
he quit because of that. And they've not given one
crap about it since then. They've had one good season
(15:06):
since then, Bob Toledo, the year that they went in
ninety eight when they when they pissed all over themselves
at Miami and cost Arizona the Rose Bowl. That's it.
They've not been good, do you This is I don't
even remember. Carl Durrell came here with a seven and
o team ranked top five or whatever and there and
Mike Supents beat the living crap out of him. Yeah,
(15:27):
so they for that reason, I don't know, that I
would take that job, because they don't. The fans don't
care about it, the administration doesn't care about it.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
I know, we have no taxes. We're gonna get a
whole most. Do you think that suffers here a little?
Given the basketball situation? It has an impact on it
because nobody really But.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Here's the thing, Steve, they don't give a crap about
basketball either. Nobody goes to their games.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
Oh no, no, no, no, But I'm talking about here here.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
Yeah, I think it has an impact in a sense. Right,
I know what you said. I know a number of
people who used to be who used to have football
tickets and not basketball tickets, but not have basketball tickets,
not football teas. I know a bunch of those. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Yeah, And you can't almost you can't change that perception. No, okay,
we got to go in and get ahold of Bruce
Pasco talk about Monday's beginning.

Bruce Pasco from The Daily Star.
Speaker 3 (20:53):
Bruce, I doing pretty good. How are you going good?
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Tommy's pressure I heard it today, not that Stark he
treated you okay to the end.
Speaker 13 (21:03):
Well, yeah, to the end. But I had to ask
that stuff.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
You know, Yes, I know.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
What do you think about Monday? It's uh, Florida's a favorite,
and I have some thoughts just because you and I
have covered this team for a long long time.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
But what do you think about Monday?
Speaker 13 (21:19):
Oh, I mean just the setting or who's gonna win?
Speaker 2 (21:23):
Just you know, how they're gonna play?
Speaker 13 (21:26):
Oh gosh, you know. I I think it'll be you know, respectable,
but Florida's probably got a few more pieces back, and
you know, I just don't know about some of the
questions in Arizona's rotation. I don't think Tommy Lloyd does either,
(21:46):
or you know, everybody doesn't at this point here. But
I think there's just maybe a little more and then
you know, some little little concerns here and there, maybe
three point shooting whatever. I mean, there's some things. I
think there's a little more, but Arizona that's not quite
ready yet. So I don't don't think they'll win, but
it shouldn't be a blowout or anything like that. Well,
I think it could be a good game.
Speaker 3 (22:05):
Well, let me ask you, and I don't know if
you've been able to sniff this out from Tommy. Would
he have rather had, like a talked of a tune
up game, you know, before having to play somebody like
Florida or does.
Speaker 13 (22:16):
He like this well you know that. I mean nobody
asked him that directly, but you know, I think he
basically said, you know, hey, this opportunity was presented to us,
and we took it. He likes to play tough teams,
you know, and certainly in a mix and this was
an opportunity on National TNT in Las Vegas and against
(22:39):
the defending champs, and I think they just took it.
I don't think, you know, if I had a guess,
I think he would rather play that in the second
or third game in the season. But it is what
it is. It was kind of like take it or
leave it, and they took it.
Speaker 3 (22:50):
You know.
Speaker 13 (22:51):
That's kind of what he said today.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
So both you guys know this, and I would say
this this I think spreads for whatever, not that that's important.
But typically, and you know this, Bruce, because you've the
games the last fifteen years directly on the road, Arizona
always always shows up for these games. Yes, especially in November.
Arizona used to underloot owned November in these types of games. Yeah,
(23:15):
I'm not going to say that. Tommy and what three
years ago we were at a Duke, you and I
and a couple of other people. Wasn't a shock to
be go? They go in there and beat Duke and
then here's the problem. They win against Duke and all
expectations natural champions. Yeah, yeah, isn't that true?
Speaker 3 (23:31):
Bruce?
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Yeah?
Speaker 13 (23:32):
I mean well historically that is a really really good
true With lut Sean Miller always had his guys ready.
It was very rare they they they'd let down early
any of the year really, but especially early. And then
I think and Tommy Lloyd's team except last year. Last
year was a and if not clear, was that just
the one off which I think it was because Crevius
(23:53):
was kind of limping around and they have some weird
rotation questions. I weren't sure what to do with Carter Bryant,
et cetera. So all that was kind of bubbling and
they didn't it didn't hit you know, they you know,
they lost pretty pretty decisively to Duke at Home as
we all know, and then that Wisconsin and then then
just kind of sunk in the Bahamas tournament. So that
was that was the one thing that makes you wonder
(24:15):
and if you know, but I think you're you're you
guys are right. I mean, historically they've been ready and
so so from that aspect, who knows they might pull
it out. I mean, Florida's got they do have a
lot of guys back, but they lost Walter Clayton there,
the hero from last year, and they're trying to move
a four man to the three, which is different for
them because they actually kind of run a similar style
(24:39):
to Arizona in many ways and usually have two coats.
So they have a big you know, they've they've got
their their experiment. So we don't know for sure. I mean,
they might come out and stumble a little bit too.
Speaker 10 (24:48):
You know.
Speaker 3 (24:48):
But you know, I was at the West Regional that
Florida one to get to the to get to the
final four, and you know, I saw them close. So
this is your champion and and you know, and they were,
but you know they but they've lost some guys how much?
(25:09):
I don't know. You know, football we see the huge
turnovers and stuff like that. There's there's a lot of
that in basketball too, But you know, can you even
count on that from year to year that a team
like Florida can keep doing what they were doing? You know,
I mean, I I don't know. I mean, does it
even count for anything that they won the national championship
last year?
Speaker 13 (25:28):
You know, that's a great question, because it it does
seem like it. I mean, generally speaking, the same programs
are up there, but it is kind of almost transactional
from year, and it changes from year to year. And
frankly the last few years and particularly last spring, it
was a lot about money. They got Boogie Flann, who
was dead set on going to the NBA by all impressions,
(25:51):
and they just talked him into going to Florida. You know,
they got zav and Lee out of Princeton to come
over and he gave up a think some degree to
come there. So you know, there are things I think
I think that's what happened is in some other programs too,
that they they have a good foundation, they certainly have
some continuity, which is still important, but then they're able
(26:13):
to they have a resource and so to speak to
go and get some really key pieces. And that's why
they're expected to be a top five team again. You know,
that's that seems to me what it takes.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
So so in the press converence, you guys talked about
the rotation and stuff like that, and you know, Tommy
being Tommy kind of got on him because the media
knows the rotation, but he doesn't know the rotation. I
guarantee you he knows the rotation.
Speaker 13 (26:37):
Well, it was funny because you know, Jason Cheer goes, well,
you know, you have four or five starters that accept
center right or something. Many ask something and and Tommy's like,
what I do? And I looked at him like, yeah,
you do, you know, Like of course you do, like
you know, And so I followed up asking you know
to me and this is probably true if the lot
of teams certainly was a fIF team last year. The
(26:59):
big questions are four through eight. Who are those guys in?
What order are they gonna play? And how many minutes?
And are the two bigs gonna play together? There's a
lot there that he's got to work on. But you know,
it could be a little bit of kind of keep
his guys motivated in the sense that, you know, he
doesn't want to say even though we all know that
probably you know, del Orso and Jade and Bradley are
(27:21):
going to be returning starters, and those two freshmen there
are probably going to be starters, you know, but it's
possible that he just doesn't want to fay that, just
to make sure everybody's you know, you know, busting through
the weekend and staying you know, don't take complacent, you know,
so to speak.
Speaker 3 (27:38):
No, I well, and that's the thing, I mean, I
you know, we always and we don't know anything yet,
but you kind of you try and get a feel
for what you see. And I don't know that I've
seen anything that jumps off, jumps off the page at
me about about this team, right, you feel like Jade
Bradley's should be really good because he's an old guy.
(27:59):
You feel like Mo Crevas should be pretty good because
you know last year time he thought he was the
best player on the team and then he got hurt.
Tobya Wak I think surprised a lot of us and
how he played, But there's nobody jumping off the page.
And Cole Pete it looks really good. H Burry's looks
really good. Something says, but you know, I don't know,
(28:21):
I just don't know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (28:22):
Well, that's why you wanted the next game to get
him right out of this game.
Speaker 13 (28:27):
Yeah, I think that's reflected in those you know, those
positional awards came out the watch list for these you know,
every position. The mass does this every year and literally
the only two guys that made their position watch lists
were Burris and Pete. And those are two guys that
had a huge amount of hype as high school players.
Then Arizona' attorney starters. None of them made it. Yeah,
you know, and they all might be among the top
(28:47):
twenty at the end of the year. They might already be,
but they're just now. You're right, I think a lot
of people look in this team like, yeah, they should
be pretty good. They might be the most uncertain team
that Lloyd had As far as what is There's doing,
what is their floor? Where are they going to be?
They'll probably be somewhere in the middle, like you know,
in that top fifteen area, like they've been the last
few years. But they could be better and they you know,
(29:11):
they might not so they might be a little worse
than last year.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
But totally agree.
Speaker 13 (29:16):
It's hard to say.
Speaker 3 (29:17):
What do you expect to find out on Monday? What
will we know Monday after the game?
Speaker 1 (29:24):
Uh?
Speaker 13 (29:25):
Well, I think there's I mean, a couple of things
on my mind is like you know, and I think
Bury's has shown this Who's Who's going to be that
you know that Bucky Getter that especially if crunch time,
if something like that happens, is it Berry's or is
it going to be Jade and Browley or are they
gonna you know, they're just going to dump it inside
because they sort of have options there. And then I
think speaking of the inside, I mean, to me, the
(29:46):
biggest question is one of the biggest questions is can
creavi Us and uh the Walka play together. They probably
will to some extent, but it may only be in
certain cases because it just seems like the Walk's track
record anyways, that he's best when he the center by
and you know, around the basket, and not with another
big guy in the lane. And so can they do
(30:07):
it together? I think that could be a really good
test against Florida because of Florida size and athleticism too,
that they're going to be I think they will be
both out there together. It'll be really interesting to see
how they do together, especially against the high level front
core like Florida has.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
So today a question was asked that I asked on
Monday or last week about the three point shooting. That's
my biggest concern they and Tommy was a little snarky
with his answer to me, Yeah, and I was fine
with that to a degree, But then he was nicer
to the question today, thinking that well he's okay with it.
(30:42):
It's sample sized blah blah blah, but it's still a
problem or an issue. Yeah.
Speaker 13 (30:47):
I mean, you know, he's saying it's not a big
sample size, and it's not you know, I mean, and
it is true that sometimes you know, the three points
not going to be there early or whatever. And I
don't think he can look at anything from the embry
riddle game and meaning hardly anything because it was you know,
just the competition was so different. So you know, I
(31:10):
think del also probably you know, he's been he's been
a little off. I don't think he took any the
other game, and then he was one per seven I
think before that. So you know, and he's the guy
that that has been starting because of his ability to
stretch the defenses. But you know, he shot forty two
percent and three. You know, I think, you know, it's
not like it's probably going to revert to something like that.
He'll get more defensive attention, so it might be a
(31:31):
little tougher, but he should be there, and then you know,
it'd be interesting to see, yeah, that some of the
other guys developed that way, because Bury's has shown he's
at least so far, we've just we've seen he's you know,
really good at getting the basket, really determined player. You know,
we haven't seen is he a three point guy as well?
How much of that you know, and how much of
the other guys you know, can you know, can some
(31:54):
of the wings off the bench. You know, Aristote and
or Chenkov hit hit threes and co Pete made I mean,
he hasn't shown that you know he might have it
in him at some point, but you're right, Steven, that
is probably one of the questions. And it's you know,
it's possible that get Lloyd deep down is more concerned
about it than he's letting on because he knows he
sees those guys every day. We don't know what they're
(32:15):
seeing every day. You know, maybe they're looking great from
three in practice, and maybe it is terrible, and he's saying,
oh my god, what are we gonna do? But he
doesn't want to tell us because he doesn't want to,
you know, get his confident, you know. And I think
get confident now, which speaks to another thing, is almost
in every case when it comes to three point shooting.
You guys know this, the three point shooting and pre
throw shooting coaches sometimes are I just don't want to say, oh,
(32:38):
we think there, we need to improve there, because it
just it can damage guy's confidence level. And it's much
easier on the confidence to say he's going to come around.
I have faith and Delhi or whoever, you know, And
I think that's kind of maybe what we're seeing.
Speaker 3 (32:53):
When when I saw Burry's and not Burry's aristode and
uh and Cole Pete for the time. Unfortunately, these two
exhibition games are our stat crew has been down at
the table. We're not going to be there first. What
you're gonna say, these two guys are like men, and yeah,
I'm like, is there your airport team? Go ahead say,
(33:14):
oh my god. I mean look, when I saw Stanley
Johnson for the first time, you know, he came and
stood in front of me and he had the biggest
butt I've ever seen on a on a human being.
But these two guys, you know, thinking that they're eighteen,
maybe years old or whatever, I'm like, when did they
start making them like that? They look twenty five now.
Having said that, maturity wise and stuff like that, how
(33:38):
how have they been looking to you in terms of
what they're doing on the court? And what is Aristote?
What where does he play? What is he going to do?
What's his role?
Speaker 13 (33:47):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, honestly, I think that's part of
the reason why Lloyd started him the other day. You know,
we know Aerosote's probably not going to be a rigular
starter right away, but he started him just to see.
I think he's just to see what he can do,
because he has a he does seem to have a
pretty high ceiling. He's very athletic, you know, and he
can shoot. He has great I mean, Grete three in
(34:08):
D potential. But where he is on that path, you know,
it's hard to say, especially because he sat out all
last year, so you know, he's probably worked on his
body a little bit. In fact, I know he did
because I saw a picture of him playing for the
Netherlands team. He played for the Netherlands senior team when
he was like sixteen or seventeen or something, and he
he looks skinny as heck. And then and then to
(34:30):
see him out there, he definitely, you know, put on
some strength there. But he's missed a lot of competition
and it's it might take him a while to really
be able to contribute. And then and then Pete is
very physically mature. Obviously comes from a family of football
players and you know NFL players. Yeah, it's pretty his
lineage is incredible, so he has that. And then you
(34:53):
know he's played on really high level and the football
of course, and then you know he's won a bunch
of state championships here in Arizona, and you know it
really proven himself that way. So I think he'll take
less time to just he may just you know, a
little bit of an adjustment to the speed and this
and that, just like any freshman. But but but you know,
(35:13):
as far as as far as that goes, I mean,
you know, I think I think he could be readier.
But I think that that's honestly, the biggest thing with
this team is they are going to have to rely
on freshmen more than any Void's teams, but Bury's and
Pete in particular, and maybe part Tenkov you could argue,
or had played a lot of really high level So
(35:33):
maybe if arizonas lucky here they get you know, these
guys are going to be freshmen who aren't really freshmen,
especially you know, after a month or so, they might
playing with a lot beyond their years.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
So Bruce, we got about twenty seconds, just real curious.
You don't have to answer, what did you put them at? Ranking?
Because a lot of the national people who you know,
whatever will they know or stuff or not or whatever?
What have him in the top ten? What about you?
Speaker 13 (35:59):
I think it was fifteen. I think they came out fourteenth,
I remember, and I had them right below that, and
and then that's just what I was saying before, I
think it's just because of the uncertainty. I mean, they
could definitely be a top ten team. They probably will
if they win a couple of these games early. But
you know, I think at the end of the season,
which is you know, where the preseason rankings usually are
(36:21):
you're trying to predict, you know, at the end of
the season, I think that's, you know, most likely where
they'll lit'll end up. But it could be anywhere arrange
from you know, final four to to top thirty. You know,
you just we don't know for sure at this point.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
Anyway, Thanks Bruce.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
Thanks, You'll see you up up there.
Speaker 3 (36:37):

when I having about my own jacket.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
That's freezing here.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
Uh so here we go get our picks.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
I'm not even going to talk about what's been going
on here. It's just it's bad. I've been bad, Steve's
been good. So we'll just leave it like that and
we'll just go on. You don't even post him anymore.
I don't I'm not going to I quit. Ray can
do it if he wants to. I'll send him the stuff.
But I'm not.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
No, that's not because it'll it'll be I like the norm.
Speaker 3 (41:44):
We got to keep the norm going. Okay, Oh yeah, okay,
I got I got you.
Speaker 2 (41:48):
Okay, So Steve been really good.
Speaker 3 (41:50):
I've been really bad. So that's the way it is.
What's the record? Do you know what?
Speaker 16 (41:54):
What?
Speaker 3 (41:55):
Yeah, Steve's got about thirty five points. I have fifteen
and we're in week we've gone through week nine. Steve's
in sixth place. Oh you know, among among eleven hundred people.
And I'm not telling you. Let's just say I'm four digits. Okay,
that's terrible. I've averaged less than one over the last No,
(42:20):
exactly one over the last five weeks. Is where it
turns around, Jay, It is all right. So I got
a new I got a new strategy, Steve, Okay, I
picked I picked these yours. Yes, I picked teams without
even looking at who they're playing. Okay, that's what I
usually do. Do you usually do? You know? You said
(42:44):
you don't look at points, bread, don't look at but
you look at who they're playing.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
No, not so much that eventually I do, but not initially.
Speaker 3 (42:51):
So what I did was I looked at I looked
at these teams and thought, if I had been picking
these teams all year long, I would be in good shape.
So that's what I've done. Okay, all right, so I'm
gonna start with them. My first pick is I'm taking
Texas Tech over they're giving seven to Kansas State. But
it's at Kansas State. But no, that's a good pick.
(43:13):
But the text Tech is just good. They're good, all right.
Speaker 2 (43:16):
That's that's all the number that's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (43:19):
Yeah. Seven.
Speaker 2 (43:20):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
Okay, so.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
You'll see I would switch mine to that, but I'll
give you.
Speaker 3 (43:26):
A stat when I give you all three of my
cottage picks. You know what the things that Texas Tech
minus the seven say, the game of the week, Oh,
we've got the Chiefs at the bills. The Chiefs are
giving one and a half.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
I was just I didn't know which way to go
with that, but I will talk about that later.
Speaker 3 (43:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (43:43):
Okay, So my my two, I'm gonna do two college
three pro as usual. I'm gonna go with Miami as
in Florida as in Florida minus twelve and a half.
Oh yeah, sure, dude, almost cussed again.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
It's almost like the It's almost like the thriller. Laugh,
you know what I mean? You have Vincent Price. Well
that's my next pick again. But Miami's five and one
against against the spread. Yeah, guess who had him the
one time they lost? Oh remember when I picked it?
I took him against Louisville here. Yeah, right during the show,
(44:24):
I thought you were going to pick him again. I'm
going to oay, I did. I got Miami giving the
twelve and a half.
Speaker 2 (44:31):
Yes, I can switch another one, but I'm not going to.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
Yeah, I am taking Miami min twelve and a half,
twelve in the pool.
Speaker 2 (44:41):
Okay, well that's one wrong for me. You and LV
minus three and a half over New Mexico. It's at home.
You know, he's pretty good. I really don't know how
good New Mexico is, but three and a half at
home is good. You know, he's halfway decent. Two Yeah,
so three and a half.
Speaker 3 (44:55):
All right, I'm not taking that one, but I am
taking I told so my daughter san Diego is it
san Diego State? I think that's a good one, texted
me last week. She goes, did you take San Diego State?
I said, no, said, I've stayed away from them ever since.
I took Cal against them and they beat Cal thirty
four to nothing. And I said, but I am taking
(45:16):
them next week, no matter who they play, no matter
what the point spread is. I don't I don't really care.
I'm taking this and I did. And so I'm taking
San Diego State. They're giving ten and a half to
Kenzie's Wyoming.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
And I thought that pick I was going to go there,
but I didn't go there.
Speaker 3 (45:33):
I'm taking San Diego State giving the ten and a
half to Wyoming. So those three teams Texas Tech, Miami Florida,
and San Diego State are combined fifteen and four against.
Speaker 2 (45:45):
The Spring, And how are you picking them? Not you're
doing it on that on that way, would it have
been very successful?
Speaker 12 (45:51):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (45:51):
Well, I you know, I looked at I looked at
the top teams against the Spring, and I said, you're
writing their hotels. Yeah. So I'm saying, okay, if I
if I had just been taking those three teams all
season long, I'm in good shape except that one. But
he didn't accept that one. So I'm taking the one.
I'm taking those three. So fifteen or four against the
spread my team. So if they don't cover, it's the
(46:12):
ja ja. Yeah. It's just stupid. It was just really stupid. Okay,
there you go.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
Okay, so now going to pros. I'm going with the
Lions seat and a half over Minnesota. Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (46:26):
Yeah, that was a semi finalist for me, Steve, I
had I wrote down the Lions, and then I changed
it when I saw a better pick. What I thought
was a better pick. And this will be my lock.
Oh I don't have my lock. Go ahead, you got
to come up with one. This will be my lock.
I am taking the Rams and I'm giving fourteen to
(46:47):
the Saints. The Saints are just awful. There are They
helped you with the there and they're starting a new quarterback.
Shuck suck pronounce. It's like it doesn't look like shuck.
It shouldn't sound I'm like, shuck, it's shuff or chauffeurs. Yeah,
it's s h o U g h. But it's shock,
which is stupid. So that's another reason to take reason. Well,
(47:10):
I hope he gets shucked. I'm taking the Rams giving fourteen.
This is this ispicking on the but the Rams are
five and two against the spread. Yeah, and so again
I'm taking another team that's done well against the spread.
Speaker 2 (47:24):
So I'm want to go with my lock. Now I
was looking at my other ones. New England has been
very good to me, So I'm going to take New
England minus five over the Falcons. Falcons. Oh, the Falcons.
I would have done perfect last week had it not
been for the Falcons.
Speaker 3 (47:38):
That's the one that didn't. We both have that. No, No,
I don't think so. I hated.
Speaker 2 (47:43):
That was the only game I missed.
Speaker 3 (47:44):
Oh no, I you know what. I oh, that was
the thing I had. I had. I had a two
leg parlay, and you picked. I had the Falcon. I
had the Falcons. I knew it, and I had the
who lost to the Jets?
Speaker 2 (47:59):
Oh yeah, Second Pittsburgh was Pittsburgh.
Speaker 3 (48:01):
No, it was in Pittsburgh. It was.
Speaker 2 (48:05):
They went for two, YadA YadA.
Speaker 3 (48:07):
Oh man, this is this is gonna get me. I'll
get well, it was just Cincinnati.
Speaker 19 (48:12):
Since the Jets and the and and the Dolphins were
combined one and thirteen this year and they both won.
Speaker 3 (48:23):
They didn't just cover, they both won.
Speaker 2 (48:26):
That was Miami curse because there's no way they're being
a lant at that time they beat the crap out
of them.
Speaker 3 (48:30):
You have a talent. It's unbelievable. Yeah, I know, Jas
line Man t shirts. I just wanted to bar you too. Okay,
so you're taking the Patriots and and you're locking them. Okay, Okay,
so now.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
Then your future Okay, this is the one that we're
gonna probably end.
Speaker 3 (48:50):
You can get mad at me. I hope that taking
the Chiefs. Okay, great, you saw my face.
Speaker 2 (49:02):
This is the you know, the Michigan game against USC
two three weeks and I took Michigan. I'm thinking, I
hate this pick. I'm picking. This thing was reluctant. I
hated it even when they were playing MC. What kind
of stupid pick that was? And it was a stupid
pick because you see killed them. I'm going with Buffalo
against all my things that I do in my picks.
(49:23):
I'm going against my my way. I do things only
because Buffalo is at home. So if I lose, it's
it's a good pick. They're two good teams. It's really
it is.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
No.
Speaker 2 (49:38):
No, it's going to be that way, I think.
Speaker 3 (49:40):
And my thinking was if people think that the Chiefs
are done, are good enough, no to be favored at Buffalo.
Then the Chiefs must look pretty freaking good to a
lot of people.
Speaker 2 (49:56):
Well, here's the funny thing about it, in this national
scheme of things, what they look at the Chiefs because
they have a different eye for them. They played bad,
they suck and they're not going to get out of
this rut. And then they played really well, which they
have been. They have they're really really good. Yeah, so
you know it's either one or the other, one or
the other, and right now it's very strong.
Speaker 3 (50:14):
Yeah, I went back and forth. Now I will I
will tell you that in our in our game, in
our pool, it's heavy on the bills. Yeah, I would
assume there's more there's more people taking the Bills than
the Chiefs. But and again it was another one of
those things where who am I going to be less
pissed off about if I take them? And I would
be really I'd be more mad at myself if I
(50:35):
took the Bills and the Chiefs covered than if by
taking the Chiefs, I'll be I feel like it's the
right pick. So you took the Chiefs.
Speaker 4 (50:44):
It almost feels like how the Patriots used to like
start out really slow and like as the season keeps
going like they start picking it up and like by
the time playoffs started they just full.
Speaker 3 (50:53):
And frankly, the Bills have been not great, right, No
they haven't. They lost two in a row one times
when I had both times.
Speaker 2 (51:00):
So don't blame them j.
Speaker 3 (51:06):
All right, So to recap, I'm I'm going Texas Tech
minus the seven against Kansas State Miami Florida. We both
have that minus twelve and a half against SMU. I've
got San Diego State minus ten and a half against Wyoming.
I got the Rams minus fourteen against the Saints, and
I've got the Chiefs minus one and a half against
the Bills. And you have the Bills plus the one
and a half. Your other three picks are un LV
(51:28):
minus three and a half against New Mexico, un LV
with the next head coach at Arizona, and then the
Lions minus eight and a half against the Vikings. In
your lock is the Patriots minus five against the Falcons.
I don't ever want to bet on another Falcons game
in my entire life either way. You know, I've had them,
and i've and then they've screwed me. You know I
(51:50):
had them when they beat the when they beat the
bills I had, I had the Falcons, I had the bills.
With that, we're gonna go.
Speaker 2 (51:58):
Thanks J for coming in there all right, Kenzie forgetting
hold of this program here. Thanks Ray for helping her.
Speaker 3 (52:03):
We're going
