Eye on the Ball, which fourhours. By no way, make sure
your most ride r at I HeeartRadio. But afternoon, everybody, welcome
to Eye on the Ball, youknow, Fox fourteen to see I'm Steve
vera Blom, said host jaganzas wegotta Jason with us today. Feels like

(00:28):
we've been away for a month.I like it. You know, somebody
actually thought our show was like over, are you guys like done? Did
you guys? Did you guys endyour show? Like no? We you
know, we had a couple ofthings to do. We took some days
off to kind of get cut offon a few things. Yeah, so
you know, we just had totake a couple of days off. Sorry,
called life. You know what,I'm happy that somebody was asking exactly

(00:50):
missed somebody like Sally Field the reallyliterally guys exactly? Yeah, Hey,
yeah, I didn't check you, sading frisk you. But did you bring
it down to the work today?Man? You know what, No,
And as you get upset, Ijust you know, I'm gonna ask you
this to Jason, so be prepared. Wasn't one of those things, Steve,

(01:11):
where I want guys who have theseincredible opportunities that they wouldn't otherwise have
to not screw it up. Yeah, right on stupid stuff. And so
no, I didn't bring his gunto work today. So Jason, did
you uh, you know when I'mreferring to we're talking about the jam jammer.
So so when he told us,you, everyone else, including the

(01:32):
world, that he knew he madea mistake in January, March whatever it
was, Yeah, did you say, Okay, we'll see Yeah. I
mean I figured because it happened tooquickly for him and just like flip the
sword to be like I'm good, you can move forward now. I'm like
that was more of his what histeam told him to say, rather than
it was he actually that was youknow, really meant. So I figured,

(01:53):
as as soon as the off seasoncan just gonna continue his antics.
And so not a surprise, no, not a surprise, no, yeah,
not a surprise. But they're disappointingbecause, like I said, you
know, and we would say thisevery time something like this comes up,
but we would have given to havean ounce of the talents that those guys
have, to have an opportunity likethey've been given, and then to watch

(02:15):
him piss it away the way theydo it just really bothers. I think
eventually, well, I'm sure there'sgonna be a heavy fine and another big
suspension. Yeah, I heard he'sprobably going to miss a lot of the
next season, if not the wholeseason. Wouldn't you be really pissed off
to pure his teammate because you alreadycost me to see a pretty good season,

(02:36):
right? How about being the commissionerof the NBA. You know that
guy, because you know that youknow, he gave him the benefit of
the doubt. He really got suspendedfor two games, not six, because
you know, he set out,had set up six games. He was
already by the time they announced thesuspension. They says an eight game suspension,
so he only had to miss twomore games and then he was back.
They led him off so easy, they gave him a chance, and

(02:58):
yet you know, does it again, and then he did it a out
kind of having to gilbal Arenas right, kind of like Arenus worked his way
out of the out of the outof the league. Still time to play,
right, Yeah, yeah, yeah, It's just so disappointing. And
and the thing is, you know, he got in that trouble and he
went back and hung around with allthe same guys doing all the same things,

(03:21):
and he has buddies, his buddies, so whatever where you filming him?
Yeah? Well what the world thesehangers on filming him, filming him
and then putting it up on socialmedia. Yeah, so the video,
it's friend in the car with himonce job, you know, pulled it
out. His friend like trying tolike move the camera up and those way
too late, and they go andthey fought up there. Yeah, and

(03:42):
somebody spotted. Yeah imagine if werenot around, right, yeah, oh
yeah, but you know here andhere's the thing now to me is that
you just are waiting for something reallybad to happen with him, whether it
happens to him or he does somethingright that he doesn't get it. So

(04:02):
and he's not gonna get it.I don't think he's gonna get it.
Let's say let's say he's out ofthe NBA because of this right because nobody
wants to touch him. He getssuspend or whatever, nobody's gonna take him.
Let's say he gets out of theNBA and he's got all this moneys
do all whatever he's doing until untilit runs out. You just feel like
this is a guy who doesn't havecontrol of himself, and he's gonna do

(04:26):
something. Either he's gonna kill somebodyor he's gonna get killed, which is
weird because his background isn't like that. Likes both thoth parents, a supported
family around him. Like he's agood kid, smart guy, Like I
don't know why he's doing this,Like he's got idiots around. Yeah,
and he lets himself be directed bythese idiots. Yeah. Well, and
he's got to be smarter than thoseidiots, right, he's not. Yeah,

(04:47):
unfortunate. There's also a phrase thatI use often. Uh it's the
mom who says, well, hehangs around. He just hangs around the
backgroud, ma'am. He is thinkingthe bad he's the back out in that
exactly. All the money, right, guys with his buddies don't have the
money. No, yeah, youknow you could if you didn't have any
money thing to be doing this stuff. So it is what it is not

(05:11):
to be a preachy. But Ijust thought that was God with Steve.
You know. I mean, hopefullysomebody, some kid out there, you
know it's maybe headed towards this kindof a career. You want them to
see this and say, just saydon't do that. Just don't do that
postal child with what not to do? Right, yeah, right. You

(05:31):
can do a lot of things, and you have a lot of freedom when
you've got a lot of money likethat, but there's some freedoms that you
don't have and this is one ofthem, and you blow it and blow
it right. Gilbert should talk tohim. Gilbert should and say, you
know, this is what happened tome. Oh, hey's okay. So
we got about Tim and a goodshow today a Monday for for a Monday.
We got the Pima all right.Pema's got a lot of stuff going

(05:54):
on, including the baseball team gettingto the district championship. Now, um
Wonda Region beat the Arizona Western twoout of three, So I think go
to Nebraska. I guess. Isthat like a is there a tournament?
I meant to look it up andthey is it a tournament or is it
like a super Reachi? No?I think it's a tournament. And then
to try and get to be oneof the final eight in the national tournament,

(06:14):
which I haven't been in and longtime. When it used to be
they did it a few times, you know during the Rich all Day years
yeah, so good luck with that. Um. They had some a couple
of golfers that finished pretty women's golfersfinishes as all Americans. So some some
cool smartical stuff. We're up up, We're up season upright tonight today,

(06:36):
director Pima. And then at fourfifteen Kent Summers, who's retired but he's
still doing some stuff, and hewrote a column for three sixty Sports Arizona
and talking about Montie Williams getting fired. Yeah that was crazy. Yeah,
I don't Yeah, it's crazy.We'll talk more about ten. I was

(06:58):
in Phoenix Thursday to watch the Diamondbacksand right across the street, you know,
trying to find parking. There wasprobably more people at the Sun's game
than nowhere at the diamond Bad right, and they could Uh we heard the
seven eighth ten and it was twozero. We gotta get coming out out
of here for the beat. Thetraffic and Suns guys were already ended up
that way. He was over atthe end of the fish. But yeah,

(07:18):
twenty two years in row, umhe was. He's been the savior
of that so that organization for fouryears. Sorry, we don't need you
anymore to see like, yeah, well you guys to where we want you
know, you guys where we wantyou to get us. Now go,
We'll get somebody else to finish this. Yeah, right, I wanted you
know. It's funny because um,I've probably talked including your reading you know,

(07:39):
can't can't call him today, andjust a couple other people I think
are you know, semi knowledgeable aboutabout the NBA. All of them said
they needed to do that. Yeah, really was coaches the year two out
of its four years. Yeah, got got him do a finals and turned
turned to programmer. I'm a franchisearound in no time flat, and let's
get him now out. Jay.I don't know if you'll agree with me,

(08:01):
Jason, but if you lose theear of the team, right,
whoever these they'll shut down on you. Hey, we we've seen it here,
are you right. We just don'ttalk about it because because it happens,
we saw it a few times inhere that the guys just you know,
I don't need to play for you. Well and yeah, and it's
the whole thing too of you know, a new owner, wasn't his guy?

(08:26):
Well, hey, you know wewere talking about that. We talk
about that in the time. Soif he's not your guy. He'll find
your guy. Yeah, you know, guy said, dy, thanks for
getting us here. We appreciate everythingyou did. Don't let the door hitch
in the ass right next up?Whatever? Yeah, and he'll probably set
next You'll get a job, youknow the guys job. I heard the
bucks are am I looking to him? So he would definitely get a job.

(08:46):
But yeah, but they're gonna switchswitch coaches with the Yeah, what
are the issues that I have? And you know this, I don't did
you follow Eden when you were akid, because he was here a little
kid. He is what he is, Jay, you know this. You
know this. Everyone says he doesn'tplay motivated. When did he? When
did he? Guy's if that's whoyou are, Yeah, that's where you

(09:09):
are. I an argument with myson about it. He said he was
really good. I said, Iknow he's really good, But didn't you
feel like four times that he tooktime off and he just kind of comcial
to not He said, yeah,he disagreed with me. Oh, you
just said that he didn't see that. Oh he didn't want to see it.
Yeah, maybe you know he didn'twant to see it because it's Aidan's
one of the guys, you know, but no, he Hey, if

(09:31):
you're seeing it, I'm seeing it. You're seeing it, honey. More
people have seen it. Yeah, you know, you just can't see all.
A lot of people have seen it. Okay, we'll talk more about
that town with kend because because theycan't get rid of Dayton to get a
find of the coach. Well,I think they're going to though. I
think they well think I think Ithink he's whether he is or isn't a

(09:54):
problem, he is seen as oneof the problems. But we clearly got
that image that he's a problem, that he's not doing as much as he
should be doing for a number oneoverall. And guess we're a new venue.
Won't change bull change of things sometimesit can, though sometimes it can.
But Mike bet Is, Nah,you work where you are right,
you are who you are. Okay, lots to talk about. I know

(10:15):
you probably have a lot of breakingnews. There's a lot of stuff involved
in us that we'll probably sit inand out of baseball season, softball season,
a lot of seasons. And Iknow we'll talk to some softball But
I I did go catch the UCLAArizona game. Do silly Arizona game.
Oh oh yeah, that must havebeen exciting. I gotta tell you,

(10:35):
um, I've changed my mind aboutdamn about Arizona. There's a big talent
gap right now. But yeah, you know, you know that. I
looked at UCLA's roster, and thenI looked at Arizonas roster. Arizonas all
freshman, all freshman. I mean, there's like three juniors and above something
like that, three may be four. LA was all juniors and seniors,

(10:56):
you know, and so that's wherethey UCLA had a Evan's year seniors,
whether they're clean up hitters seven years. So you've been here since like the
nineteen fifty you know, and andyou know, you just look at the
age of these of these of theseplayers, the maturity of these it was
it was it was wait wait,I guess I guess the comment that it

(11:18):
was women against girls, you know, and now we say, you know,
men against those women against girls. There were these all these grown up
women playing these you know. Imean, yes, you had Devin Nets
and the you know, uh,um Izzie Patch, a couple of you
know, I hired love but Arizona'snothing much fresh year. You change,
I think you try to think asbad as everybody thought. You know,

(11:41):
there are so people on the oldfamous Internet say, of course doing this,
doing that, of course, Andwe'll talk about someone because I'm sure
I'm way can get into the wholebreaking his aspect of that. But I
did go see that game he wasgonna play. It was gonna play tough.
They hung in there. Um,you know the Pactael players that you
heard a couple of homers against him, and that was a difference in the
game. You know, it wasyou know, it may have been that
had they won that game, theymight have gotten in. So they pitching

(12:05):
again, you still same issues.Just Devinness pitched really well, she pitched
the whole games. She pitched reallywell. She gave, she gave,
She threw a four hitter, butthree of them ahammers and that's how they
lost. And that's all. Youknow, I just wanted to see,
doesn't look as bad as it sounds, and it did not that mean that
one and for that one game, for that one game, yeah, okay,

(12:26):
well they didn't get in and we'lltalk more about that later. Anything
else going on. We have abouttwo two three minute We hope to get
some calls at the back end ofthis hour or like three forty three forty
five. Have our people calls calls. We're gonna have Monaco here in about
five ten minutes. UM, sothat'll be good too. Break this is
coming up. Yeah, Badford's back. He's there's only eight horses like he's

(12:48):
back. He's back. Um.Yeah, And I don't think it was
the winner. The winner of thederby is in but very few from the
from the you know that this issomething we hadn't talked about. Um.
U have a guy who we tryto get on a time or two.
Um who trainer Forte Plech Tod Pletcherhas been suspended. Oh that's the same

(13:09):
reason. Whoa when just recently tendays for drugging. Fourteen was caught with
drugs on September. I didn't knowthat. The come on, man,
you're not learning that the U Aare you? So that was an issue
or it's an issue you won't fourteenwon't be running in this one. So
it should be interesting, should bea good day of racing. Okay,

(13:33):
you follow horse race more than Ido. How does a horse who was
a long shot in the Kentucky Derbycomes around and wins it? Okay,
all of a sudden, they werethe they were the total favorite in the
next race. You know, let'ssay, I mean, if they hadn't
they hadn't won the Derby, wouldthey You know, they sucked before the
Derby. Now they win a racewhich a lot of horses just come up

(13:54):
and all of a sudden win andhave a great day. Now it's like,
you know, the prohibitive face wereto win the next race. Is
that I totally understand because people seenhim for the first time. People seen
him for the first time, eventhough they've run a few times before,
and now they know who they are. But like this this guy, I
don't think he's gonna win because thisstyle won't fit for this track because you

(14:16):
need to be fast like that eightyone long shot last year. And also
he was like one of the favoritesfor the Derby. He was an eighty
one long shot. Really wasn't anygood, right, he got, he
got, but he broke through onerace and all of a sudden, he's
one of the best horses in theworld. You're your long weeks later.
Your logic doesn't work for horse race. It doesn't work for is how you
how you run that day. Somehorses don't like to run on certain days.

(14:39):
You know, It's just the wayit is. That's why this tons
a tough game. Man's a toughgame. Richard Egan something like, he's
not right. You know, hehad a tough y, had a tough
derby day. No way, youknow, you know because you find him.
I've won with him before. Yeah, that's my point. There were
days and there were not good Yeahthere day. Yeah, I mean,

(15:00):
just how that happens. All right, let's take our break. We're going
to come back. Jim Monicope AthleticKahama College about all the supports over there.

here on Fox Sports fourteen fifty Steve, he's Jake. You gotta calls this
Jim Monico. It is Jim.How are you good? Afternoon you and

(19:44):
well thank you make me you're onthe air, so we're happy to have
you on the air. What afantastic year is the season over or no
base fantastic season you guys have hadand continues. It's amazing. Um,
it's been a crazy day to behonest with you, trying to get everybody
all over the place. We've gotteams everywhere, so it's just been outstanding.

(20:06):
Well, we know we saw herbaseball dead over the weekend, so
they've moved on in the tournament. So you said you've got teams elsewhere,
tell us who's gone where right now? So we just brought back the women.
Maria our golfer, finished and thendid great. She's a two time
All American and getting ready to makea decision on which Division one school she's

(20:26):
going to. Our men's team isnow in Wichita. They actually passed in
the airport, so they're out therenow competing for the national championship in golf.
Our men's team, let's see wherealso are we track leaves tomorrow to
go to Hobbs, New Mexico,to complete in the national Championships out there,
they'll be going for the next week, and then baseball leaves tomorrow morning

(20:48):
to head to Nebraska. So thisis a naive dumb question, Jim,
who pays for the travel if they'vemade the postseason? That is a terribly
naive dumb question. I know that'sa college page for our our travel for
championships. The college does, okay, so it still comes out of Pima.

(21:11):
Oh yeah, oh yeah yeah. The NJCAA is nothing like the NCAA
when it comes to that. That'swhy sko k wow I didn't realize that
it's not a cheap No, it'sincredibly expensive. Yeah, makes sense.
So god, oh you know what, I don't want to bring you down
thinking about that, so sorry. So let's first talk about baseball. I
mean, you know, because that'sa sport that has been you know,

(21:33):
historically great, you know, somepast appearances in the national tournament whatnot.
But um, you know, they'vethey've had a really good year. We
talked to Ken hackemy during the year. Just tell us a little bit about
what you saw those guys do thisyear. Let me be honest, They've
done nothing else than they've done everyyear. I mean, that guy plays

(21:56):
right. I always said how toughthe WSFL was when we had four ball.
They compared it to the SEC,and Greg Hanson did an amazing article
and compared us to the Pac twelveand the conference are champions, and here
he is, you know, hewins the most games in team history and
doesn't make the playoffs, right, and this year he feels a team that
just believes they can do it andwent out there and with a little bit

(22:19):
of the way that the ball bouncedand everything else, this year it was
our turn and those kids are justthey're outstanding young men and they work really
hard and ken hold into a reallyhigh standard. I mean, it's enjoyable
to watch those guys play. I'mcurious because you're the AD obviously that's why
you have you on. But youmust be busy going to all these events.

(22:40):
How is life for you with allthese events? So last week,
you know, we were at theADS conference in Yuma while we're trying to
well, I'm trying to get readyto host a championship. So you're constantly
doing something and you know a lotof guys are like, well, are
you're going to Nebraska to watch himplay? Well? No, because I
have good men in Wichita can thisand uh and and I have another track

(23:03):
team with with forty people going tonationals in Hog, New Mexico. I
said so realistically. And my assistantis one of the assistant track coaches.
So I'm like, I've got tobe available in case things, you know,
don't go right, and I've gota bunch of coaches and kids that
I have to make sure are safeand good. So I stay home and
kind of handle the control room. You know, they talked about the golf

(23:26):
team, you know, the golfteam is passing each other at the airport.
And you know, we've always beenimpressed with Marcus Smith. He he
you know, we had we hadhim on you know, his first season
as as the coach, and atthat time he seemed like such a little
kid still right, but you know, we had him on, you know,
a couple of weeks ago and he'slike, you can tell that he's
matured into like a junior college golfcoach. Do you see what coaches look

(23:51):
like after a few years, it'slike the president. So in another year,
Marcus will be ball. So youknow, it's just, you know,
it is what it is. AndI think the nature of the beast
to be in a junior college coachand at his age and experience was so
far behind the curve, right,And he just jumped in with both feet

(24:15):
in a couple of arms and saidI'm gonna do this. And he's done
it, and he's done an amazingjob, and he has matured and he's
he's a great guy and a reallygreat coach. And the guys in the
Great Ladies play hard. From yeah, yeah, no questions, let's sell.
We got about five minutes, sowe're talking to Jim Monico. The
idea PIM overall for the year.Women's soccer again very good. The men's

(24:36):
soccer, of course, very good. He's my understanding. You're trying to
get the national tournament back or didyou already do that? I was stupid
enough to go ahead and do it. It will have it back, And
this year it's actually a day longerbecause they wanted one more day of rest.
That was the national office. Soyeah, that's the second week in
November. All that all the collegewill be back in Tucson, come for

(25:00):
a national championship. Yeah. Pressure, huh, but but you must love
you've loved it. Obviously you wantedit back because there's a reason for that.
But it's kind of be like thetwo Sons or PIMA is the headquarters
for great soccer team? Is itdoesn't? You know, you're right,
but PEAM is the headquarters for greatathletics? Makes sense? Yeah, well,

(25:22):
I mean it is. It isright. I mean we look at
things really in such a different lightnow in the last five six years,
because not only do we do greatthings on fields, we've always bragged about
the classroom. In this past semesterthree one, four, so we beat
last year's three zero six. It'slike hitting sixty two bombs in the next
year hitting sixty four. Wow,look at you guys. So it's dated.

(25:45):
Great. Back back to the soccerTerama. What did you like about
hosting it last year? I mean, I know, as Steve said,
it had to be a lot ofwork, but there's there's a reason you
wanted to bring it back. Whatdid you like about doing it? What
did I like about doing it?Truthfully? Is it puts It puts Pima
and Tucson on the national collegiate mallot. You know, we have the un

(26:06):
the University of Arizona, and they'reamazing at everything, but people don't have
a tendency to look at what wehave here, and I think the JC
Tournament brings that to light. Withthe hotels and the weather and the facility.
Right it's not on the U ofa campus, it's another facility.
It shows people not only what wehave, but what we have to offer

(26:26):
when it's time to pick a placeto live. Rightly, no question,
m who did you have to impress? I'm sure they probably said, no
doubt, let's just go back becausethe weather is fantastic, I'm sure all
the opponents or the other people enjoyedit too, because I think it's that
time. The weather was fantastic. So I'm going to say something and it's
usually not me because I don't Idon't blow my own horn whatsoever. And

(26:48):
it's still not me. But theysaid it was the best tournament they've ever
been to with the hospitality tend andwhat the city and our local food just
did for us to help us.The facility they thought was amazing. Once
again, the weather was incredible, and we had the highest attendance in the
last fifteen twenty years that anybody canremember. So so do you go to

(27:11):
your do you go to your soccercoaches and say, okay, we're doing
this again, so get your stuffin gear and you better be there,
or how do you how do youhandle that? It's exactly right, I
said, one way or another, you're gonna be there, so you need
to play in it. You canwork at one. Very true, but
you know what, given the coachesyou have and the players you have,
they'll be back. Oh are youkidding? Causing and Kendra two of the

(27:37):
best coaches in the country, andno matter what they have, they'll put
the best product on the field andit's never been a disappoint So, Jim,
we talked to your coaches from thedifferent sports all the time and they
just talk about the atmosphere that you'vecreated over there. Well, you know,
thinking back, because you know fromthe time that you got there to
now, what do you think hasbeen the key to what you guys have

(27:59):
been doing from a pro gram standpoint? And I know you're going to say
all these things about all these peoplethat you that are there, but there's
something that you've had to have doneand that you say your sights on in
terms of this is what I wantto do to create something great here?
What did you what are some ofthose things? The only thing I really
wanted to accomplish was for us tobecome cohesive, a family like and we've

(28:23):
done that and I mean that inthe aspect of caring for each other.
You know, at one time itwas a soccer program, it was a
baseball program. Now there's an athleticprogram, and we're just pieces of the
one body and everybody. It's nota buying things. They just they gravitated
towards that. The kids are amazing. They each support each other's sports,

(28:45):
and they're at every other event, and the coaches actually care and help each
other, and I don't I don'tthink you can have a lose, you
know. I mean I tell themI love them all the time because I'm
nothing without them, and they're incredible, and I just want them to know
that and to pass that same, you know, that same mentality and mentorship
down to their kids. I wantthem to believe in something bigger than themselves.

(29:07):
Right, we didn't even talk aboutthe men's and women's are basketball progress
because right they're very good ranked mostyear, so it's not all Yeah,
Trodd went to the national tournament againand Brian lost in the championship game.
I mean, god, you knowit's it's just listen. If it's not
for you guys and for all theother the sports people in Tucson, nobody

(29:29):
knows about p mccaullege athletics and itis a diamond. Yeah, no,
yes, no doubt it. It'sjust you guys. Well, you guys
always give us something to talk about, so we appreciate that much first for
sure. So, um, you'rekind of funny. Yeah, yeah,
you know, wasn't like so soyou're watching all these things from a distance.
Um, what do you have youreye on right now? Honestly,

(29:52):
I have to look the next year. Already this year is done. Um,
we're giving everybody the the the samethey need to succeed for this year.
That travel that we want to makesure they're traveling the best they can
because they've earned that. I trulybelieve the coaches and kids have earned a
quality trip. So we've worked hardon that. Now we have to look
at next year and see. Youknow, in my honest opinion, I

(30:15):
want to see athletics grow. Weare we are the best thing going.
And why wouldn't you sink your moneyinto your best crop? Yeah? No,
great, fantastic Jim as usual, appreciate you. Oh you guys are
amazing. Thanks so much. Guys, thanks about Jim Monica from PEMA.
No good stuff that Then He's right, I mean, it's a fantastic you

(30:37):
never thought this twenty years ago.I mean the amazing thing is because you
know, Tucson has had Tuson hasbeen good at certain sports, right baseball,
softball, you know, softball? You know, then soccer became a
thing. You know, basketball probablytook a little longer, right, you
know, but but now peam ofbasketball has been good for a while.

(31:00):
Um, you know, so whenyou when you's in now golf, I
mean, you know, so whenyou see that all these sports because look,
I look, I knew some guys, you know, we knew guys
who are you know in sports period? It wasn't always this way, right,
and I think you knew that, you know, And so you know
when you see how many sports aredoing so well, that's how you really

(31:21):
and by accident, right, itis not by accident. Yeah, okay,
let's take a break, come back, take your calls. I hope

I got some notes wondering where wherethe heck we were. We just
had stuff to do and you knowwe again, as people know, we
do other stuff. So sometimes youjust gotta try to catch up. And

(35:29):
then you know that that allowed usto do that. Yeah right, okay,
cool, what else we're gonna talkabout? I don't want to get
into your your area of your life, Jason with the breaking news, So
yeah, that's kind of hard. There was. So Baffort's coming back up
for Time to Go. He's probablygonna be more of the story than than
the extual race because he's been therealready. Some stuff out of social media

(35:51):
and stuff, and yeah, youknow, the athletics got a story on
him that I haven't read, butit's a good story that just came out.
Dania O'Neill, who who we knowis the the sympathizer and in the
kind of sympathizer, she's the onethat go gets you actually yeah, yeah,
she's the one that did the story. She's sort of a watchdog for
athletic right. Um, So there'sthat, and what else is going on?
What does she saying? She it'sa good story, how he thought

(36:15):
he was railroaded. Yeah, andshe's still you know, he says that,
right, he still says that he'sit's in behind him. But he's
still trying to get his name clearto all that he did mention Pulcher or
they didn't mention Pletcher in the story. He's backing Pletcher because people don't understand
the business. Uh, you know, you failed rooke this. Yeah,
but it was like there were circumstancesfor involved involved, and that's just it

(36:37):
is what it is. I can'texplain it. For another horse died at
Churchill. There was like seven oreight now because last week threw the the
whole bunch another one like today?Yeah, yeah, I mean that's and
that happened. Remember that sent methen and mar Forever had a whole bunch
of an and they had him heretoo at the Rito. Also in the

(37:00):
NBA starts here tomorrow, at leastfrom my mind, the Lakers, the
Lakers the Western Conference finals, yea, and then the Eastern You're hanging up
red dude, now your team.I like, I liked my chest,
like k I really loved my chestswith Denver. If they can stop a
D, I think they get to. Yeah, dat series is going to
determine on a D and Yoki's matchup. Whoever one's that maxical one the series?

(37:22):
Yeah yeah, um, so Istill I'm still I bet even more
on in Denver. So um youput them on on it? Oh yeah,
I like Denver, I like Denverlot Yeah yeah. Um what you
think about about the way the didyou did you see Steve Kers said about
the team? Yeah? I thoughtit was perfectly on the said we weren't
a champion, perfectly honest with whatI agree perfectly. They were a horrible,

(37:45):
horrible away road. They're a reallyreally bad row team. And you
know Jordan Pool didn't play up tothe standard. I didn't you know,
Yeah, we knew that, right. Did you see the reasons why they
hit him and punched him and justrespecting Steve and they wanted him He is
kind of I didn't realize this, but you can see how he plays ye
consistent, a little punkish. Yeah, m did you see that attitude?

(38:08):
Like yeah, I saw Mike orderclips whatnot of the way like in the
huddle, like Staph and Draymond istrying to talk to him and he walks
away, you know, like yeah, so yeah, that's a big factor
why they didn't play that well togetherseason. So yeah, he was very

(38:28):
very honest about it. Yeah youknow what. I think that's what everybody
likes about him. Yeah, Okay, you know what, and we sucked
and we got the most out ofour team. It's gonna be how hy
you're on here and hind the ball? Hey, Jay, Steve Grad,
you guys are back. This isdone? Hey done, what's up?
Done? I just wanted to commenton on Tema Athletics. Yes, sir,

(38:52):
you know, growing up here, you know they'd have I mean years
and years ago they had a greatfootball team for a few years and then
every you know, everyone's from whilethe baseball team would be good, you
know. But but the renaissance they'rehaving right now, it's like amazing.
They're you know, they're they're allThey're like a Stanford where they're good at

(39:15):
everything. Yeah, they've had abunch of great coaches. It seems like,
you know, we've had so manyof them on the show. We
talked to Cosgrove as as uh youknow, as Monica, you know,
say we you know, we talkedto Todd hold House, we talked to
you know, uh, Peabody.I mean, just all these coaches come
on and they all just seem likegreat people. And you know, when

(39:37):
you have that, you know,it's it's it's it's it's uh contagious.
It can be contagious, contagious. And then the nice thing is they want
to be here in Tucson, rightright. And it's funny to me because
when you talk when when I thinkabout little leaguers and Pop Warner football,

(39:57):
the coaching makes all the difference becausekid kids that are ten years old,
they're all the same, most ofthem. You know, there's a one
percenters, but but it's it's niceto see that you have these this bunch
of elite coaches at our community collegethat are doing these things that are making
it so hard on Monacle because youknow, if everybody earns to travel,

(40:22):
well, holy moly, Yeah, that's got to be a heck of a
budget he's got to come up with. Yeah, that's why he asked.
I didn't really know that. Ithought that maybe some kind of sanction would
pay for it. Yeah. Yeah, there's no money comes in from you
know, because like in the NCAA, right, they get their expensive government
stuff. So yeah, no,yeah, And it's just a shame that

(40:43):
they didn't have football, you know, back from back in the day where
you know it could have been likeI think football could have been really good
too, because it's junior college football, and you had a lot of good,
pretty decent kids that were here. They didn't get to play be on
high school. And and I alsowanted to shut out the crew at All

(41:06):
Sports Tucson dot Com. Go ahead, those guys. They do an amazing
job. We got the Little LeagueAll Stars tournaments coming up. If anybody's
out there and you want to,you want to, you want to find
out what your old little league wasdoing or whatever. They've got the scores
from all the brackets, all theI mean, I think they end up

(41:29):
with like a dozen people out therewatching Little League and reporting on it.
And the Balls brothers don't sleep theirvampire. They do the vampire. They
mustn't. They must not, becausethe kids that leave Tucson and go play
n IA ball some across the countryor whatever, those guys still acknowledge them
when they're getting their player of theweek in their conference. Two thousand miles

(41:52):
away and it's a rolling thing, and it's they just do an amazing job.
Those more, all those guys andand Monico and Pima College. It's
just really neat to see that thatthese guys are everybody's getting their due if
if you know where to look forthem. Yeah, no, great,
great, thanks to appreciate appreciate it. Thank you, Thanks Ton, Thanks,

(42:15):
thanks thanks for listen. Thanks Ialways thanks for listening. We were
talking about before he came on,what we're saying the young kid, you
remember stuff. Um, we're talkingabout what we're talking about, closed state
yea yea yeah. So so he'staking hits though, because because it's the
coach's responsibility that his team didn't getany better. Well, there's certain things

(42:37):
you can't control, right, youcan try to control chemistry and all that,
but if the team doesn't get along, you just don't get along.
And well, again, what hewas saying was, we got as much
out of our team as totally greatas we were going to get. Totally
agree. And whether you believe thator not, you know, people,
well you have you have Steph Trace. You should win the NBA championship every
year, right, that's not howit works, no, you know.

(42:58):
And then what Joel Embiid said rightwhere he talked about you can't just be
two of us we got and peopleare calling him out for saying, wait
a minute, you know, yeah, that was that was part of the
quote. Thought some like media outletsthat they cut it. So yeah,
Aly got the force before he saidthat, he said, I asked me
better. James has to be better. We all have to be better.
Then he said that, Well,it's good that you're paying attention because you

(43:21):
know how the media. Yeah, yeah, you gotta get that's how it
got played, you know, andit's like you know, he I mean,
there's a sometimes there is as muchas you're gonna get, you know,
if you if you go back tothat uh that scene and it was
a movie, but that scene inBlue Chips at the end of the at
the end of the movie for NickNolton, who was the head coach,
said his best coaching job was ayear before when they went you know,

(43:45):
sixteen and fourteen, you know, when he had won national championships. He
said, the best coaching job everdid was last year because we got everything
out of that team that we weregoing to get and sometimes you know,
sometimes you know that you've maxed out, you know, you know, like
it was a football team last year, they maxed out. I'm fine,

(44:05):
there's no other way you could havepredicted they were gonna get five wins,
right and five and seven? Youknow it's not good enough for anybody,
but you had to you feel likefive wins was as much as they were
going to get. Well, that'swhat Doc Rippers was saying that with Philadelphia,
who would have thought they would havegotten this far under their cigar Stantus.
I know, I don't know howgood they were. I don't know
where they were predicted to finish, but they took Boston to Game seven before

(44:28):
here, so I don't know. His job is probably on the n Yeah,
I mean, I just I justwith um their situation, but I
think they could have went farther giventhe situation they were and in Boston they
weren't playing that while honestly the wholeseries, the whole Boston Boston, yet
they weren't playing a will to thewhole series. By Game one they led
Sixers win it even though James Joelwasn't playing. And then even in the

(44:49):
past series like they took the Hawksand six games where they probably should have
swept the Hawks. So the Sixershad a chance to win the series,
but they just kind of gave itaway in Game six and then you know,
Jason Tatum just saw the game awaygames, haven't based Boston? Yeah,
yeah, Well you gotta know yourlimitation? Ye? Well, yeah,
you know, and and again sometimesyou know, I mean sometimes you
do max out and then other timesyou do what you know, what you

(45:13):
know the Bucks did? What Arizonabasketball did? You know? You know
things like that. I mean, you know a lot of teams don't max
out. You know, they leavea lot behind and you go, what
they all happened there? And Ithink that's why Montie Williams got fired.
Yeah, because they're just people feellike you had Kevin Durant, you should
have done better. Right. Well, now we'll ask m Kent about We

(45:36):
talked about this. If they didn'tget to the finals or to the win
it all? Was it worth it? Was it worth it? Because they
didn't have him for forever? Rightthey brought him in in March or whatever
it was. Yeah, he gothurt. Was all giving up the landscape
for him? Yeah, I guessit was worth it because Kevin's on a
four year contract. So even ifthey didn't win it all this year,
which they didn't, they so outfor more years. Let me asked you,

(45:57):
because you follow it more than wedo. Yeah, they win.
Will they get to the finals inthe next three years? Yeah? They
definitely should. They have a corealready set up in plays with Book and
Kevin Durant. They need to addpieces around them too, and they could
definitely get there. I fel likethis year they took the Nuggets was six
games and then without any like depthreally in my opinion, So I was
like, next year, Adam ordeath, you don't get a new coach

(46:17):
in there that they really like andthen take the next step to the if
no conference finals of the finals? Can you save this clip of sentences?
How would see what he's doing?Emergency room? How you face down?
I don't know. I don't knowif I can get there this That franchise
is kind of cursed. Yeah, okay it, well you know again,
where are the where are the pieces? Right? How do you get your

(46:39):
hands on them? No? No, just you got this max contract with
DeAndre Hayton. You know, ifyou feel you need to get rid of
them. Who's gonna take him?Right? And how much is that going
to cost you? And now didyou need what did me a good roster
size? Playing roster size? Theyplayed with five six guys, right,
yeah, but everyone else plays eight. Now there's some teams that whittled down

(47:00):
right, like like six seven guys, right, So they need they need
I think they need a good likestarting like ten, like ten, like
you know five, and I waslike five, that's a good start.
Yeah, there's ten's a low.Let's see. I don't Milwaukee. How's
a good starting tas? I thinkMilwaukee does? Um? I mean,

(47:21):
Deniver probably does. Dene's a reallygood bench. Yeah, have never a
really good bench as well. ButI think well Bosston, oh yes,
Boston has an incredible like depth. They're have really good death as well.
So there are a couple of teamsthat have like a good like guys that's
where they are. Yeah, that'strue. So it is hard though,
especially with the cap situation in Phoenix. I don't know all the just b
I know, like you know Deandre'scontract, Kevin's you know books, So

(47:45):
here's a lot of money, youknow, three guys all and then Chris
Paul as well, I figure outwhat to deal with him. Well,
it's funny. The big headline wasthat book and uh and uh and Kevin
h stigned off on this. Ofcourse, you wouldn't you ask them,
what's you Since you wouldn't you haveto ask him, right being the two
stars and saying can we win withouthim? Ye? Then for they to

(48:05):
say, I think he needs tostay or whatever. But there's no question
that if Aiden's still there, he'sgone. If Aiden's gone, maybe he
stays. Does that make sense?Yeah? Yeah, it makes sense because
they couldn't go inside. No,you know, play, I guess I
didn't see Monty. You know,he just you know, getting let go.
I definitely predict DeAndre and we'll getrated his off season Biday, Nay

(48:25):
Monty get'll let go by guess makessense? And they want to you know,
keep want to go to the other. So well we'll see if they
you know, get rid of both. But yeah, yeah, yeah,
okay, we got about four minutesleft him. We want to give us
a quick call, please do fivetwo, four, one, six,
seventy four forty. We have KenSummer's talking here with us, and Ken
Summers will talk about the firing ofBonnie Williams and stuff. You know,

(48:46):
a lot continue to hear stuff aboutand we'll try and get John Wilner on
sometime this week. Continue here alot of stuff about the PAC twelve.
What's going on with the PAC twelveand stuff. Did you see Michael he
story on on the Lord on thelawyers, Yes, clif or something,
go ahead, we gotta yeah,we got to talk about that. I

(49:06):
think it was last week's I forgot, but so so now the the lawyer's
lawyers are saying that that de Lorddid not interact be guilty to the sexual
assault. That uh that the girl'slawyer, the victims lawyers said um,
and they're pissed. And I thinkthey're they're considering or have uh filed Uh

(49:30):
I don't, I don't really orconsidering the claim. But they're definitely denying
what they're denying. They're denying whatwhat the other lawyers said and what's been
out in the media. Right,so basically, somebody he's not telling the
truth. But right, I don'tknow if I want to use the L
word, but somebody's not telling thetruth because somebody, because you have one

(49:52):
side saying that these two guys pleadedguilty to sexual assault. You have the
lawyer de Laura's lawyers saying he didnot. You have the other players lawyer
saying basically arguing the point, So, what the hell happened? Yeah?
And it brings up doubt. Itbrings up doubt, and and and again.

(50:15):
If you're in a situation where nobodyis supposed to be able to release
be releasing information as to what happenedat the jubal court level, could they
and I don't know that your friendsor your buddies who listen, I think
you can say, but nobody's goingto get the record. And I was
gonna say, could those records bereleased if no parties agree, good parties
agree? I don't know. Doesthat make sense? Yeah, I hear

(50:39):
what you're saying. Can they beunsealed if everybody agrees that they that they're
unseal? The story correct? Butyeah, so you'd have to get the
victim or the alleged victim now,and the two alleged uh calling perpetrators or
whatever to all agree. And Idon't know that anybody would ever do that.
I don't know that any lawyer wouldallow that to happen unless it's gonna

(51:02):
make their client correct, and sonot all sides can look good coming on
truth. Right. That's why it'seither the two guys are okay or the
victim is okay, and whoever's notokay it is going to say I'm not
you know, I'm not agreeing tothat, but I don't know if you
can't. I don't know what thelaw is on that. May maybe one
of our guys is listening. Canjuvenile court records be unsealed? Because the

(51:24):
only way to prove it if theyagree, Say, I did see that
there's some language about juvenile court umthat you don't plead guilty in the In
the juvenile court, you're adjudicated ashaving committed this thing, whether that's you

(51:45):
know, it's another word for pleadingguilty or not guilty. Right. So
I'd love to hear from somebody who'sgot some experience with that in terms of
what what it means to say somebodywas adjudicated versus somebody pleading guilty. And
they've probably done your guys, yourpeople have probably been through this before.
Yeah, you know what I'm saying, you know, so you know they've

(52:06):
experienced some this. Okay, nogreat, great first hour. We gotta
go to the second hour here inabout ten seconds. Okay, let's take
our break. We do have togo. We will be back and we're
gonna take breaking news from Jason, all kinds of stuff going on over the
last several days. And then uhKen Summers will talk about the firing of
Minie Williams of the Suns. We'revery pack
