your host, Randy the tank Tatliger.

Speaker 8 (02:23):
Welcome to another exciting episode of How to Lose a
golf Ball. So look, go down to Walmart, get yourself
cheap set of them noodles. Golf ball old noodle ndl
ees is that says, get some noodles. What's do is

(02:45):
go up to the golf course there and you tee
the ball real high in the air and you tell it.

Speaker 6 (02:51):
You slug a beer down.

Speaker 9 (02:52):
Tell everybody I've seen John Daily do this, and you scream,
grip it and rip it, and you send the old
noodle ball about one hundred and twenty yards looking into
the woods.

Speaker 6 (03:07):
There it bounces off.

Speaker 7 (03:09):
A tree, hits a squirrel, squirrel falls over, goes eh.
I think that's how squirrel would scream and goes into
a nearby pond.

Speaker 8 (03:18):
This is called golf. Hey, you're listening to the golfing
around radio hour.

Speaker 7 (03:25):
Hey, look, if you can't have fun golfing, and if
you can't have fun listening to the golfing around radio hour,
I cannot help you. Okay, if you're one of these
serious people that takes golf way too seriously, then you're
listening to the wrong show, Cupcake. Please go find another

(03:47):
radio show to listen to. There's plenty of them out there.
Very akin to listening to someone paint and listening to the.

Speaker 6 (03:56):
Paint dry for an hour. That is not what golf
around is about.

Speaker 7 (04:01):
So get ready to tee it up and grip it
and rip it right down the middle of the fairway
this week, because we've got an exciting show for you.

Speaker 6 (04:09):
We're gonna go over to well Near and dear to my.

Speaker 7 (04:12):
Heart Ireland, Ireland to golf and you know, was over
in April, had a tremendous experience. I think this is
my sixth trip to Ireland and just love everything about Ireland,
not only the golf but the hospitality. As you know,

(04:33):
we have the Team USA Versus Team Ireland Amateur Golf
Championships where amateurs like you no usg again, handicap required,
can win a trip to Ireland to play for Team
USA Versus Team Ireland Amateur Golf Championships. Log onto USA

Speaker 6 (04:57):
To learn more. So is a we said.

Speaker 7 (05:00):
We were in the Emerald out this past April, had
a tremendous experience.

Speaker 6 (05:05):
Everything about the trip was just incredible. You know. One
of our favorite stops.

Speaker 7 (05:12):
Along the way was Klleen Castle k I L l
Ee and Castle. Google it Colleen Castle about thirty minutes
outside of Dublin. In Dublin for the you that are
mathematically challenged, it is on the east coast of Ireland.

(05:35):
Pleasant drive over early in the morning, well it actually
it was later afternoon when we got there. We'd gone
down to the K Club And if you don't know
the K Club, you don't know you ride a cup
history because we got to play the K Club earlier
in the day that hosted the Ryder Cup back in
the day and of course the k Club is home
to Arnold Palmer Courses. Then we went over to the beautiful,

(06:00):
on inspiring, majestic magical with fairies. What did I tell
you about fairies running around? Yes, mystical Irish fairies messed
with my camera equipment. Kaleen Castle is just amazing. Its namesake,
the Kaleen Castle was built in the eleven hundreds, eleven.

Speaker 6 (06:23):
And eighty one.

Speaker 7 (06:24):
I believe we're going to talk to the head pro
and director of hospitality, which means funds, drinks and laughs
and Guinnesses Cormick came out with me on the golf
course for the Golfing Around TV show which is broadcast
on massive mid Atlantic sports network Sunday mornings at nine
thirty and we went out and we pounded the ball

(06:46):
around the course and I filmed the beautiful, beautiful Jack
Nicholas golf course with Cormick. The castle is the hallmark
of the property, the foundation, the bedrock of the property.
It stirs the imagination to think back to eleven eighty

(07:08):
one again. If I'm off for a year or two,
forgive me about one. How they built the castle just amazing.

Speaker 6 (07:20):
Secondly, just who's been in the castle throughout the years.

Speaker 7 (07:25):
I mean who paid for it first to get built,
what laird, lord of the manor what night owned the land.

Speaker 6 (07:34):
I do not know these things.

Speaker 7 (07:36):
I just know it is beautiful as magistic and soon
within the next several years. When we talked to Karen
Collins here a little bit later in this segment, she's
going to tell you how about the Colleen Castle, just
outside of Dublin is being completely gutted and renovated. She
took us on a wonderful tour inside and soon it

(07:57):
will be home to a beautiful, beautiful hotel within the
confines of the Kaleen Castle. But the Jack Nicholas signature
course here at Kleeen Castle is what you've come for,
at least to this episode of the Golfing Around Radio.
They've got this incredible statue of Jack on the first

(08:20):
tee to guide you down the fairway. It is remarkable.
I think it stands about ten feet tall. We took
the tm USA picture in front of the Kleen statue
of Jack Nicholas and it it's right there on my
wall right now.

Speaker 6 (08:36):
I'm looking at it.

Speaker 7 (08:37):
It's very special and whole number one is very special
as well as you head down the fairway to the left,
and it's not there for eye candy. Is this massive,
massive fairway bunker trap area that is the hallmark of

(08:58):
the course, besides the castle itself a shamrock, a massive
should ask Cormick how big it was yardage wise?

Speaker 6 (09:10):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (09:11):
Forty yards by forty yards four leaf clover in the
middle of the bunker, in the middle of the.

Speaker 6 (09:16):
Fairway, and it does catch balls. It's not just there
for eye candy.

Speaker 7 (09:21):
And that's how you begin your glorious round at the
Klean Castle whole number one, the t box shot with
a Jack Nicholas statue behind you, the ancient castle of
Khaleen Castle, watching sentinel over the whole property. And what
a wonderful way to begin this wonderful journey on this

(09:43):
wonderful Nicholas Parkland course. Let's go ahead back to Ireland
now in April and listen to Cormick and I on
the first tee with the castle behind us at Kaleen
Castle just outside of Dublin, Ireland. All right, well, nobody

(10:08):
better than the director of golf and hospital hospitality.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Well, how can you not?

Speaker 7 (10:12):
It's Ireland golf and hospitality go together.

Speaker 6 (10:16):
Yeah. Right.

Speaker 10 (10:17):
You gotta have your golf ball. You gotta have your Guinness.
You gotta have your golf ball, you gotta have your Jamison.
See how they all go linked hands they do. Can
I work for you anytime?

Speaker 2 (10:26):
I think I can?

Speaker 10 (10:27):
I think I can.

Speaker 7 (10:28):
You know the ancient Klean castle behind me was built in.

Speaker 10 (10:32):
Eleven eighty one, originally eleven eighty one. Come back a
few years, a bit, a bit, a couple of years
before you run it.

Speaker 7 (10:38):
Yeah, just a bit talking about ancient not only me,
but the castle as well.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Let's get to the good stuff.

Speaker 7 (10:45):
Let's get to Jack Nicholas his statue behind us. I'm
a Jack fan. I love what he does on a course,
tends to leave it a little bit open. Then what
I've always seen is he puts you to work on
The green complex is still true today, pretty similar out here.

Speaker 11 (11:01):
So he's always got a pretty fair design off the tee,
let's you get away.

Speaker 10 (11:05):
And when he was opening here in twenty and eight he.

Speaker 11 (11:08):
Did say it was probably one of the toughest second
shot golf courses he designs.

Speaker 10 (11:12):
So it's pretty typical of a Nicklas signature course.

Speaker 11 (11:15):
Fair off the tee, deep bunkers, underlating greens.

Speaker 10 (11:18):
Tough, challenging golf course, but there's a tea for everybody,
and there's a golf shop for everybody out here.

Speaker 7 (11:23):
Yeah, very much so okay, So of course you've got
jack and signature holes, signature holes here at clean Castle.

Speaker 10 (11:31):
You probably have to whittle it.

Speaker 7 (11:32):
Down from eighteen to a select four, which is difficult.
The castle, of course behind us adds well the ambience
to everything, but it is the green complex is it
is the poorch bunkers that make everything well worthwhile.

Speaker 10 (11:48):
What are our signature holes? It's really hard to narrow
it down to a few.

Speaker 12 (11:52):
There's eighteen great golf holes out here, and our first
solo is a really good starting and opening hole. We've
got our shamwrck bunker down the left side that challenges
everybody to get over it, and that's a really good opener.
Eighteen is obviously just iconic coming up to finish up
in front of the eight hundred and forty year old castle.

Speaker 10 (12:10):
Twelve is my personal favorite.

Speaker 11 (12:11):
It's a part five over reclaimed stone of a fairy
tree on a beautiful golf hole.

Speaker 10 (12:16):
A fairy tree. What in the world is a fairy tree,
not a cherry tree. A fairy tree.

Speaker 11 (12:21):
A fairy tree is it's got a home in old
Irish mythology and as it goes, fairy tree is not
to be touched or damage or it brings a lifetime
of bad luck.

Speaker 10 (12:31):
So jack is ideas is only the golf hole.

Speaker 11 (12:33):
There's a small fairy tree set just about thirty yards
short of the green he's sitting.

Speaker 10 (12:38):
I said, it's a whole looks great shaping. It's going, well,
gotta lose the tree, guys, we.

Speaker 11 (12:42):
Gotta get rid of that tree. And everyone around is
in Jack. It's a fairy tree. It's a lifetime of
bad luck. It's gotta move the tree.

Speaker 10 (12:49):
I just gotta go. It doesn't fit. So the set
of keys were handed up to Jack. If you want
to move that tree, be my guest, right, and I
take it.

Speaker 6 (12:56):
He did not.

Speaker 10 (12:57):
The tree still sounds today.

Speaker 7 (12:58):
Yeah, I'm not messing around with the faerry tree bay
any means.

Speaker 10 (13:02):
My backswing is bad enough. I don't need fairies cursing it.

Speaker 7 (13:06):
Hey, let's go out on a beautiful Kaleen Castle golf
course right now, and I want you to well experience
the hospitality, the flavor of Ireland and discover what makes
well Ireland's so beautiful.

Speaker 10 (13:19):
You kind of cute yourself.

Speaker 7 (13:29):
How hard can it be to sell something like Colleen Castle.

Speaker 6 (13:34):
I mean it's beautiful.

Speaker 10 (13:36):
Jack Nicholas has been here.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
He designed it.

Speaker 7 (13:39):
You have a castle, a castle, you got fairies about
who keep messing with my camera equipment.

Speaker 13 (13:45):
It's very special here at Killeen Castle.

Speaker 10 (13:47):
Yeah, right, So when people want to come here, why
do they come here?

Speaker 13 (13:51):
Because they want to play a hidden gem, They want
to play a trophy course, they want to play a
boocket list course, and that is what Colleen Castle offers.
We offer a unique and memorable golf experience, a championship
park then golf course and a Jack Nicholas signature course.
So what's not to love about Kleen Castle.

Speaker 7 (14:13):
Pedigrees and golf go a long way. So we have
a Jack Nicholas design golf course. When you talk about tournaments,
events like the Solheim Cup have been played at Killeen Castle.

Speaker 10 (14:26):
That ups the pedigree.

Speaker 13 (14:27):
Oh, it absolutely does. So we hosted it in twenty eleven.
Europe won that year as well, which was a lovely edition.
But Killeen Castle was actually chosen as a venue for
the twenty eleven cele Hand Cup before construction had it
even been completed. So that was testament to the product
to the championship golf course that that was going to

(14:50):
be showcased to host a an international pedigree tournament like
the Solheim Cup. So that says a lot about the
quality of the course, the condition of the golf course,
the playability of the golf course. So in addition to
the Slheim Cup, we've hosted Irish Opens, PGA events wow,
and we're looking forward to hosting the Challenge Tour in

(15:13):
twenty twenty five which was just announced. So that's a
major coup and that's the next stage two hosting another
big open yet to be a next watch this space, Randy.

Speaker 7 (15:26):
I love it.

Speaker 6 (15:26):
I love it, you know.

Speaker 10 (15:27):
And that's the thing.

Speaker 7 (15:28):
They're not stuck in the past. While in the eleventh century,
hearing Killeen Castle by any means making improvements, making improvements
all around the property constantly. You know, the castle's been
here since the eleven hundreds. But guess what down the
road you yourself can come to Kleean Castle in Ireland

(15:49):
and guess what you could be a night or a
damsel in distress and stay in the beautiful castle.

Speaker 13 (15:55):
That is the plan. That's there's always been the vision
of the owners of Killeen Castle. So it's a six
hundred acre estate with that magnificent twelfth century castle, you know,
which can be seen from every golf full so it's
very very special. We're very very proud of the product.
But that castle in twenty twenty seven, please God, will
be a forty three bedroom accommodation. So we're developing the estate.

(16:20):
We're going to have a spa in Q two of
twenty twenty five. There's a magnificent wooded trail around the
whole estate, so we're enhancing the already magnificent golf product
and we're just adding to that. So, you know, exciting
times ahead. It's important.

Speaker 7 (16:37):
You don't even have to wait till twenty twenty seven.
Currently they're well, they're accommodation, luxury accommodations here at clean Castle.

Speaker 13 (16:45):
Yeah, so we built six four bedroom lodges which opened
in July of twenty twenty three. Very exciting addition to
the golf course and to the estate being you know,
frequented by golf groups, but not only golf groups, by
people who are coming to Ireland's agent Eese which you
are right in the heart of the Boyne Valley, which

(17:07):
has so much to offer in terms of activities outside
of golf. So we have families, we have stay in
play packages obviously for golfers, but also people who just
want to come and visit the area, use it as
a base for thirty minutes from the airport, thirty minutes
from the city center and to enjoy this magnificent scenery
in wildlife and peace and tranquility.

Speaker 6 (17:28):
So yes, try and quality. Please find me now.
