Speaker 1 (00:02):
All right, we continue live inside the five oh six pub,
h goes peer market with HOWK Talk and a few
minutes left of tonight's abbreviated program. But it's rare that
you get more than a few minutes where our next
yes is actually in Grand Forks. It's branches a GM
of the hockey team joining us, and I thought it
was great, Chizz you mentioned during break there asking me
anything you want except about the current hockey team because

(00:24):
you're constantly seeing it from about a thirty thousand foot view.
So let's let's get right into the hard hitting for
you then, Hilton or Marriott Marriott.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah, yeah, it's frustrating when I can't find a Marriott
establishment within a couple miles of where I'm staying.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
So maybe you know one of the unique things that
maybe you know, the casual fan isn't to wear. Obviously
with the change and having you on the staff, you're
not necessarily a dynamic role because it's very defined, but
you very rarely actually see hockey game in person that
involves und for sure.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
It's definitely a lot of nervous watching on my phone
and sometimes I have to put the phone away when
we're playing and I'm trying to have valuate a game
that it's a hard separation, but yeah, I'm rarely there
when we're playing live.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Take us through what's a what's a normal week like
for you? Then obviously you're gone somewhere, but take us
through what a week looks like for the GA.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Yeah, I guess so far, it's hard to kind of
pin down a normal week. You know, often here Monday
Tuesday and then kind of traveling to a weekend destination
of games. Sometimes it's Wednesday through Sunday. Other times it's
more of just a Friday through Sunday trip, depending on
kind of how far I'm going. So usually around the

(01:31):
rink Monday Tuesday, sometimes Wednesday Thursday, but the rest of
it kind of hoffing it on the road, trying to
find some players.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
And you've been doing great at that, and our fans
would say, let's let's hawk a little bit. Obviously a
great piece today on Cole Rashnie and his his freshman year.
We've seen the news and Ali Josephson. Obviously, guys like
Keith Verhobb just at a different level. But when you
look at guys like Josephsin and Rashnie, in particular, how
are rewarding? Is it for you? From your standpoint when
you see some of the points guys, because anybody can

(02:00):
score points in junior, right, You're not necessarily sure how
it's going to translate. But they're doing the right things
right early, aren't they? For sure?

Speaker 2 (02:08):
And at the end of the day, we call those
guys winning hockey players.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Right.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
It's a pretty easy evaluation to go to USA and
HL or WHL dot com and sort the point leaders, right,
but we feel like those two guys do more for us,
you know, And thinking back about freshmen and college hockey,
you know, it used to be very hard to play
the center position as a freshman, almost considered, you know,
start on the wing and figure it out and then
we'll maybe move you to the middle. Right, Well, those

(02:34):
guys have been thrown right into the fire playing down
the middle and have been great for us in all situations.
So it's pretty impressive work by those guys. What's the
buzz been like about this whole change?

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Obviously dynamic with college hockey, not just having the player pools,
but having guys down and having gms. And what are
you hearing from outside is people look at it through
the window. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
I think it's unique in a way, and you know,
it's not completely different than how college hockey is operating
a long time. You know, a lot of programs have
always had a recruiting based coach. The hard part was
is that I think for head coaches is that recruiting
based assistant coach always wanted to stick around to be
on the bench because he felt a part of it, right,
and he wanted to coach the guys that he had

(03:13):
previously recruited, right. So I think the appeal for coach
Jackson was I kind of know my qualities and my specialties,
and you know, I'm not going to be upset if
I'm not there coaching on Friday Saturdays.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
I know my role. Has it Has it been what
you thought it would be? And are you having fun
kind of making it your own to an extent? Yeah,
I think so.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
I think the summer was definitely chaotic and trying to
kind of finalize a roster for this year. But now
there's a little bit more routine that goes into it
and trying to come up with just regular practices and
structure that can be sustainable over a long period of time.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
What's what changes for you now in the short term
obviously hockey leagues junior what have you have been going
on for a while? High school hockey's starting to get going. Now?
How do we spread the wealth that is bringedsick? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Well, I think early on here, you know, with my
previous job and waterly with USCHL, I have a pretty
good pulse of the American player pool, right. So I've
been kind of playing catch up in Canada just because
I hadn't been focusing on those players, so a lot
of time north of the border. And now once I
kind of build my book on them, it'll be a
little bit kind of cross reference whether it's Minnesota high

(04:15):
school one weekend, Canada the next USHL. So I will
kind of have to spread the wall a little bit more.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Now, can't let you have to completely before we let
you go from what you have seen? What's stood out
with you with this group for North Kada hockey so
far this year?

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Yeah, I just think their willingness to buy into what
the coaches are kind of saying. And I think it's
nice when you have new, young, you know, energized people
when you're trying to do something like that, right, like
they're eager to learn, they're eager to listen, and they're
kind of just taking in whatever kind of the coaches
are kind of throwing at them. So I think that's
the real benefit of our team. And you know, hopefully

(04:49):
it looks to continue as we move forward.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Well, I know, if I put my fan hat on,
thank you for all you do. Keep up the great work.
And I told Spades last week, don't forget to switch
the laundry over before you go to bed tonight to
be off and running here the end of the week.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
