Speaker 1 (00:31):
Lord, I just want to thank you that you are good,
that no matter what is going around, you are with us.
No matter where we're at, you know where we're at.
And I pray for those that are up at night
that struggle with sleep. I pray that your peace would
come into the room right now, wherever they're at, whatever
they're doing. I pray that your peace that surpasses us
(00:54):
all understanding, would fill their heart in their mind. In
Christ Jesus, I pray that they could lay aside the
burdens of the day. I pray that Lord, that they
would know that you are with them, and that you're
carrying the burdens, and that you're walking right with them,
and that they're not alone. Even if they don't feel
like you're with them, you're with them. And so Lord,
(01:16):
and thank you for everything that you're doing and for
always being with us.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
And Father, we just thank you for this opportunity to
be a blessing to people. We pray for those that
are listening and ask that you to open their eyes
and their ears and their hearts to be able to
hear your voice and the very things you want to
encourage them with. Tonight, in Jesus' name.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Amen, Amen, welcome to Healing Begins. My name is Pastor Gale.

you that are listening. We'd really like to know you

in your life, what is it that you up at night?
And you can email me at share at Healing Begins

Radio dot com. That is share at Healing Begins Radio
dot com. So the title of the program tonight is
sweet Sleep Boy. You like sleeping, Stephanie Allens a nine
hour girl?
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Yes, I do.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
I like to have the nine hours too, and I
like to wake up just sleeping through the whole night,
nodding to having to get up.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yes, those are my favorite evenings.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
They are. Hey, want to start off with a wonderful
scripture Proverbs three twenty four. When you lie down, you
will not be afraid. When you lie down, your sleep
will be sweet. Oh love it. Hey, have you ever
struggled with sleep, Stephanie?
Speaker 2 (02:53):
I have, especially when I'm going to a trial or
there's something on my mind, or I'm worried about somebody.
You know, that typically is when I will struggle with sleep,
or if my body is not feeling well. Right, if
I'm feeling sick or something of that nature's going on,
it can be hard.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Nighttime is the time that everything floods your mind. Everything
floods your mind, everything you happened during the day. So
one of the things we teach at spiritual Care is
cast all you're in care upon Him because he cares
for you. Now that sounds easy, but if you're going
through a hard time, that's hard. Well, how do you
(03:29):
do that? I cast it out of my Lord and
it comes right back to me. Well, we got to
keep laying it down. You know. God promises RESTful sleep. Stephanie,
you want to read Psalms four eight, I.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Would love to. It says in peace, I will lie
down and sleep for you alone, Lord, make me dwell
in safety.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
Wow. Safety is really key to sleep, right, being safe,
knowing that you're safe. God is the source of safety
and peace. True rest comes with me. Trust him fully, Boy,
that's a big one, isn't it.
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Absolutely?
Speaker 1 (04:10):
A lot of times people say, well I trust God,
I trust God, and then everything excuse me, goes to
hell on a handbasket, and all of a suddenly thinking,
I don't think I trust God as much as I
think I do.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Right, I thought I did, But now I'm learning where
I'm really at. But that's not necessarily a bad thing,
because it gives us an opportunity to grow. We get
to see the areas where maybe we can come in
a little more into trusting Him. Right, And it's hard
to trust him when you don't know him, And it's
really hard to trust him when you haven't been through
many trials. So sometimes the trials and the struggles and
(04:43):
the difficulties aren't really fun, but they are helpful for
our spiritual growth and for making us our relationship with
God stronger.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Well, yeah, you know, if you took a plant and
it only grew up in the house, and then you
set it out door in the wind in the rain,
the plant went in, Doug. Well, because the wind in
the rain actually strengthens the plant as it's growing up.
And so what the enemy meant to hurt us and
destroy us, God to use us, to strengthen us and
(05:15):
to help us, It says in Matthew eleven twenty eight.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burden,
and I will give you rest. I like that. One
time a friend asked me because in the scripture, Jesus says,
take my yoke. My yoke is easy and my burden
is light. And the reason his yoke is easy is
(05:38):
you're not the only one carrying the yoke. Jesus is
helping you with your yoke. He's taking hold of that
thing that you're carrying, and he's carrying it with you.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
Yeah, and maybe you're listening, you're like, well, what is
a yoke? What do you even mean? We don't use
those very often in modern society today. But a yolk
was just a piece of wood that put a stronger
ox or donkey or animal connected it to a younger
week or less experienced duck or donkey or animal, and
to train the younger one of the one that wasn't
quite as strong. The larger animal would carry the weight
(06:11):
of the burden and the work that needed to be done.
And that's what God does for us. He carries the
weight of it. He already paid the price. He has
the grace and the power and the ability to answer
your prayers so that we can enter into that place
of rest, and Hebrews talks about labor to enter into
the rest of God, and that rest is just the
(06:31):
idea of being still and knowing that He is carrying
the weight of all the things that are pressing in
on our lives when we ask him.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
To, Hey, why don't you read some of the barriers
to sleep? I was going to make a funny joke
that I thought a yolk was something that came from
an egg, But I'm sorry I got bad humor. If
you're listening, I'm glad. Actually also true, I'm really glad.
Stephanie qualified that statement. But really, if you're not getting sleep,
(07:03):
it's no laughing matter, because when you lack sleep and
you're deprived of sleep, you just don't do well. You
don't make decisions, you don't do things right, and so
sleep is very important. Read some of the barriers to
sleep stuffany.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
So some of the barriers to sleep are anxiety, fear, guilt,
and stress. Negative thoughts and unresolved emotions can keep the
mind racing. And there are not just mental health issues.
There can also be spiritual care issues, and I would
just add physical issues as well.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
Oh, exactly. If you don't deal with the spiritual issues,
eventually they become physical issues, because if you don't deal
with the stress, anxiety, and depression, they begin to cause
chemical changes within your body, which eventually can cause physical
sicknesses and illnesses. So you want to be able to
(08:00):
to take the spiritual issues lay them at the cross.
And by the way, it is a new way to think,
because laying something at the cross is not as easy
as one would think. The reason I say that is
the minute you lay something down, you're very tempted to
(08:20):
retry back over and pick it back up, because that's
the way you've been used to dealing with things. And
I'm looking at some of these barriers. If you have guilt,
a good remedy for guilt is repentance, asking God's forgiveness,
being cleansed by the blood of Jesus, and just laying
(08:41):
that guilt at the cross and really laying all the
negative emotions at the cross is a good way to
do it because He cares for us. One Peter five
seventh through ninet s has cast all your anxiety on
him because He cares for you, for your avisor of
the devil prowls around like a roar and line seeking
(09:01):
someone who meet main power, resist him, stand firm in
the faith. The keyword is may, because when he roars,
he wants you to run in fear. But if you say,
I'm not going to run because God has not given
me a spirit of fear, of power, love, and a
sound mind, then he can't hurt you.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Yeah. Yeah, that's so good, so so good. And I
think for the anxiety and the fear, one of the
best ways I know is just to meditate on the
love of God. The Scripture tells us that perfect love
casts out fear. And when you know who God is,
and the Bible tells us that God is love, meditate
on the reality that you're loved. Meditate on the reality
that he will care for you. Meditate on his goodness
(09:45):
in the different ways he's provided for you, protected you,
or guided you in the past, because he has not
changed and he'll continue to do that for you in
this current circumstance.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Another version says perfect love and I like this drives
out off here because sometimes you got to drive it
out because it doesn't want to leave. Go ahead, read
that next section there.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
We need to take every thought captive for healing. So
Second Corinthians ten to five says, we take every thought
captive to make it obedient to Christ. So it's really
important to make sure that you're aligning your thoughts with
God's truth, right, because if we're aligned in our thoughts
with God's truth, where the heart goes, the man follows.
(10:31):
Out of the mouth flow the issues of the heart.
So if we're meditating and thinking about the truth of
who God is and how good he is, and how
much He loves us, and how he always heals us
when we ask him to or always answers our prayer
when we ask him to according to his will, we
know that good things in the favor of the Lord
will be with us and upon us, and home make away.
But if we're thinking about all the negative things all
(10:53):
the time, sometimes that can actually set our eyes. Have
you ever been driving a car and you look one
direction and then all of a sudden you've notice you're
going over the line a little bit. It's the same principle. Spiritually,
keep your eyes on the place that you want to go,
and if you want to go into the place of
having peace, keep your eyes on the peace keeper and
the peacemaker, who is Jesus.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
Well in this scripture. I like it because it says
the weapons we fight with or not the weapons of
the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to
the pulling down in strongholds and fortresses. We pull down
every high and lofty thing that sets itself up against
the knowledge of God. Or we take every thought and
make it a be a christ. Now two things here. One,
(11:36):
there are negative thoughts we need to take captive. But
then there are thoughts that seem good but wind up
in a bad place, and we need to take those captives.
This is every high and lofty thing. We really need
to keep a close rain on what's going on in
our mind, what we're thinking, on, what we're dwelling on.
(11:57):
Because it says take every thought captive. It doesn't say
take every negative thought captain. We take every thought captive
and make it and make it. You know what that means.
It doesn't want to be obedient. Your thoughts want to
run all over and they don't want to be obedient. Now,
if you listen to me long enough, you've heard my
(12:20):
pig illustration. I grew up on a farm in Diamond Springs, Michigan,
and my dad would have feeder pigs somewhere between one
hundred and one hundred and fifty and when we would
go to a farm to get some new pigs, we
got them up. We bought them when they were real little.
I don't know if you have ever tried to jump
in a pen and catch a little pig. They are fast.
(12:43):
They are some of the hardest things you've ever tried
to catch. Now you say, what's your point? My point
is I like to try it visually.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
You in a pig pen right now, Chason, a little pig?
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Can you can you imagine if you greased it up.
I'm just saying slip, oh yeah, slippery, all right. So
taking every thought captive is key and saying God, what
do you want to do with this thought? But if
you give a negative thought to Jesus, you have to
change what you're thinking on now. In the next section,
(13:19):
we are going to talk about the role that spiritual
care plays in restoring rest Spiritual care provides guidance and
surrendering burdens to God, encourage his prayer, scripture, meditation, and
inner healing, and helps to process grief, trauma, and emotional wounds.
(13:40):
That interrupt peace. Boy, That is so true. Emotional wounds,
wounds of the soul can really stop you from sleeping,
can interrupt your By the way, rest is important. You know,
I used to travel. I still do travel to the
mission field, and I used to run hard. I mean
I ran hard for a week and a half and
(14:00):
then I get sick. And finally my translator said, we're
going to learn a new word rest. We're going to
learn to take a nap. He goes, So he would
assign me to go back for two hours, take a nap,
and then go out. You know, the funny thing happened,
I quit getting sick when I was on the mission field.
Why because I was learning to rest. Read that next session.
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Yeah, can I share one thing real quick on the
last time, woul that'd be okay, just because my mom
shared something with me last week that I absolutely love.
She said, Sometimes when I'm having a hard time with
something that's going on internally, like you're talking about soul
care and the importance of getting the soul care so
that you can enter into the place of rush. She said,
You know, Stephanie, most things that we struggle with are
(14:46):
tied to being willing to surrender our wills. You were
talking earlier about the negative thoughts, not just taking negative
thoughts captive, but positive thoughts can be you know, maybe
you want a certain relationship, or you want a certain job.
And she said, I'm learned just to put my hands
out before the Lord. And she said, I'll put my
right hand out and say I am. And she said,
and I'll put my left hand out and I'll say yours.
(15:09):
And when she thinks about who God is and how
much he loves her, she just relaxes like it's okay,
I am yours. I can trust you. And I just
think that might be something that could be helpful to
some of our listeners. So the next session we talk
about the new pathway to peaceful rest. So this teaches us,
you know, the renewal of the mind according to Romans
(15:30):
twelve two. Right, we have to renew our mind to
the Word, just like we talked about earlier, and body
through spiritual disciplines. Okay, it introduces biblical sleep habits, prayer
before bed, meditating on God's word, and journaling. These are
all things that can help you get your thoughts out
before you put your head on that pillow. Especially prayer
(15:53):
and journaling. You're talking, you're reading what God's word says
and the promises he speaks over you and your life.
You hope it gives you peace. You're praying, you're saying, Lord,
these are the things I'm concerned about. These are the
things I need your help with. I am yours and
I trust you. You're meditating on what you read. You're
meditating on what he said back to you when you
pray it, and then you're journaling it out the reality,
(16:16):
being honest with yourself about the struggle that you're still having,
and listening and saying, okay, you know, Aba, give me
more of yourself, make me more like your son, fill
me where with your spirit? Help me? Why am I
struggling with this resting thing? What is it I need
from you or I don't have or I don't know
about you that I need to know to enter into
that place of rest? So these are always to build
(16:38):
a lifestyle of trust and gratitude and peace.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
All right, Conclusion, Rest is a gift from God. Sweet
sleep is not just physical, it's spiritual. I remember when
I was going to take three days alone with God.
Can you imagine me three days in silence. Well, my
spiritual director said, probably the first thing you're going to
do is fall asleep. She said, it means your body's tired.
(17:05):
Fall asleep. Maybe you'll have a dream. Maybe God will
give you a spiritual dream. So sweet sleep is not
just physical and spiritual. I can't tell you how many
messages I got for the radio that came in the
night when I was sleeping. They just came to me.
Want to read the next point?
Speaker 2 (17:25):
Yeah, says God desires that we live in peace, free
from fear and mental unrest. So that might be a
strange thing to hear. Maybe you're the type of person
that's always kind of Your mind is spinning, your thoughts
are coming and going constantly. But the scripture tells us
be still and know that I am God right. So
(17:45):
the ideal place for us to be as we continue
to grow in Christ, as we continue to mature, is
for us to live in that place of complete peace
where we're free from fear. We're free from all those
pervading thoughts or thoughts that press in us, try and
push us one way or another. But we're in a
place where we can choose what we think, we can
choose what we want to meditate on.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
With biblical truths, spiritual care, and intentional living, we can
experience true rest. So some questions to consider are reflect
on what is disturbing your piece. Just take a pencil
or take an ink pen in a journal and say, God,
will you show me what's disturbing my sleep and write
it down. Invite God into your nighttime routine. How about that?
Speaker 2 (18:33):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (18:34):
You know they say what you meditate on before you
go to bed at night, many times is what you
dream about. So fill your mind, not full of your
iPhone before you go to bed, Not follow your Facebook
before you go to bed. Fill your mind full of
God's word. Get your face out of the Facebook and
(18:54):
into the book, which is a good thing. You want
to read the last.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Point, Yeah, it says seek or through spiritual care and
apply new Pathway teachings to your life. So just you know,
there's comfort in a multitude of counselors. There's wisdom and
a multitude of counselors. So sometimes you know you don't
have to face whatever you're facing alone. Invite others into
your journey with you. And I was reading back on
what you said here about reflect on what's disturbing your piece.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
Sometimes when I do that, I like to ask two questions, Father, God,
what's the lie I'm believing and what's the truth. And
when I ask those two questions, it'll settle my heart.
He'll immediately typically remind me of a verse or something
somebody spoke over me or encouraged me with one time,
and then remind me who he is. So it's like
it settles my heart to see the lie for what
(19:42):
it is and then to be able to grab hold
onto that promise or that truth that keeps me steady
throughout the evening.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
Yeah. Amen, that's that's really good. And so as we
wind up our time together, we want to spend some
time praying for you, Stephanie. You want to lead off
in prayer.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Yeah, Father, thank you so much. For those that are listening,
and for those specifically who struggle with sleep, I just
ask first and foremost that you would wash over them
with your comfort and with your peace right now, that
you would quicken to their mind to know what is
the lie that they're believing and what is the truth
(20:22):
about who you are, and grant them the grace to
say I am yours and to know that you are
good and that you have very good plans for them.
Help them in whatever circumstances are pressing in over their lives,
and answer their prayers speedily this week in ways that
will surprise them. If their bodies need healing, we ask
(20:43):
for healing. If their souls need comfort and encouragement, we
ask for that comfort and encouragement. If they're lonely, Father God,
I ask that you would bring people into their lives
to come alongside them, so they would know they are
not alone, and that you love them and you see
them and you know them by name. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
Lord, I'm reminded of a scripture that says that you
sent your Angel of your presence ahead of the Israelites
as they traveled. And I pray right now in the
name of Jesus, that you would send the Angel of
your presence into every room, into every place where this
(21:24):
program was being heard. And I pray that your presence
would dispel darkness, would dispel hurt, pain, worry, and especially
the spirit of fear. In fact, in the name of Jesus,
I bind the spirit of fear that people struggle with
(21:44):
at night. And I command you to release the people
in the name of Jesus, and I just release the
peace of Jesus over every person, over every situation in
Jesus's name. Amen.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Amen.
Speaker 1 (22:03):
