Speaker 1 (00:00):
Heartfeat Saint Louis with J The TJ A k ag
Holiday bringing you the pulse of the city.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Hey, what's upsish boy, doctor g J The TJ Holiday. Uh,
it's another day. We get an opportunity to get together
and talk about some fun stuff and we get to,
you know, uh, talk to some people that are very
very uh, I must say prestigious here in Saint Louis
(00:32):
a long time legend. Every every time I say his name,
everybody go yeah, yeah, yeah, I know him. I know him.
I know him as of none other than my man,
mister Steve shank Man. How you doing today, Man.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
It's all good, it's all It's always good to be
on your station over there at iHeartRadio and uh a
lot of my friends over there. But yeah, doing fine.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
Oh that's great. Also, we got the uh is it
the President CEO of United Way is uh Michelle Tucker?
And then I say that right.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
Of course, Yeah, thanks for having me. Good.
Speaker 2 (01:09):
Now, the Evolution Festival is coming up in September, and
they got a great lineup this year that you know,
a lot of people need to be checking out. But
more importantly, uh, we're making a grand announcement right now.
Because Uh, the Evolution Festival, I do believe, and I'm
going to have Steve Sankman uh to explain this, But
(01:31):
when you buy a ticket, there's something that happens with
the United Way. Is that? Is that right? Am I
saying that correctly?
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Steve?
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Well, I think it's best to put it this way.
The Evolution Festival is a five oh one seed three
and we're partnering with another charity in Saint Louis, our
biggest charity, which is You're Not a Way of Greater
Saint Louis, to not only donate money from every ticket sold,
but money from anything from beverages, the T shirts to food.
(02:03):
So all the net profits of the Evolution Festival twenty
twenty five will go to the United Way for Star Belief.
Because we had one of the worst arms in the
years that I've lived in Saint Louis, which is all
my life I've ever seen. The devastation is going to
go on for many, many months, and we're out there
to help and play our part as the concert the
(02:26):
largest festival in the state of Missouri.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
No, wow, wow, that is great news. So, Michelle, I
know people listening to this and they're going why should
you know stuff go to the United Way and they're going,
so what is it that the United Way? Do you
know what I mean? Can you kind of run down
what the United Way does and also talk about what
(02:51):
this means in terms of, you know, there's relief for
tornado victims that when this tornado hit on May sixteenth.
Speaker 4 (03:01):
Yeah, I'll actually focus more on the storm since that's
what it's going to benefit. But I'll just tell you
that high level United Way is helping over a million
people across our community. We're helping one to three people
live their best possible lives, and that means that through
the support of one hundred and sixty nonprofit agencies across
the region, we are helping people through challenges and we
(03:25):
are addressing immediate needs and long term needs. But a
bit about the storm. The thing that we do throughout
the year, everything that I just describe, it enables us
to jump into action very quickly after every crisis across
the community, and so we are a part of the
community's response, a formal part of it with our two
(03:46):
one one hotline, and already we've seen over twenty three
hundred disaster related intakes, which are people that call us
directly and talk to us about what's going on, what
the impact looked like through the disasters. And the other
thing is that we are providing funding and support for
a lot of the boots on the ground agencies that
(04:08):
are part of our network that are experienced in disasters.
So we are helping to coordinate that and helping to
fund those efforts. And we are mobilizing volunteers. We started
to collect those volunteers before volunteers were even able to
go in. But so far we've deployed over fifty seven
hundred volunteers into the efforts. So we are there and
(04:33):
doing whatever we can to respond to the challenges and
the needs resulting from the disaster.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Okay, now, Steve, I know that you could have done
a lot of things with the profits from Evolution Festival
this year. What made you say, you know what, let's
partner with the United Way.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Well, it had already made a small effort with the
Urban League our lawn chairs. If you bring along your
own launcheer, you pay seven dollars and that money has
already been allocated to the Urban League. But running into
Michelle by chance, and I think everything happens for a reason.
And so does she. We decided that we're going to
(05:16):
take our festival this year and do something for all
this people in this community that you're not away serves.
And by taking all the net proceeds from every ticket sold,
every beverage, every drink, every T shirt, and take those
profits and give that over the not a way so
they could start it out and put the money into
the right people's hands. Our minimum contribution that my wife
(05:39):
and I made is one hundred thousand dollars, so they'll
get no less than one hundred thousand. But by more
sponsors joining us major sponsors and corporate underwriters and the public.
The public doesn't necessarily get a chance except through their
companies that they work for, to give money. If I'm
saying that right, Michelle. This is getting individuals people that
(06:00):
want to come see a great lineup of thirty acts
over two days in Forest Park, acts from like Sublime
and TLC and Public Enemy and Sam Fender and our
good friend Lenny Kravits. So for the price of your ticket,
not only going to see a great show and two
days of thirty artists, but you're going to be doing good,
something good for the community in helping you out of
(06:21):
way and those that were affected by the storm in May.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Yes, I was looking at this. I was like, man,
this is an incredible lineup and it's going to be
Saturday and Sunday September twenty seven to twenty eight over
at Forest Park. You know, great spot to actually have
a concert.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
You know.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
See where can people go and get their tickets?
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Well, the best thing is Evolutionfestival dot com. And you
got VIP tickets, you got general mission tickets, four PAC tickets,
lots of choices. We usually raise the ticket prices around
this time each year, but because of the proceeds going
to the United Way and wanting to sell more tickets
because the more tickets you sell, obviously the more food
(07:08):
and beverages are sold. So we've held those ticket prices
right now at the lower rates, so we're hoping that
people really start buying tickets. Michelle has been kind enough
to send out these releases to their mailing list, as
we've done with ours with social media. At iHeartRadio, which
is our sponsor this year, are really doing a great
(07:30):
job of getting the word out. But thinking about buying
a ticket doesn't put any money into the to the coffers,
for the United Way. So get out there and buy
your tickets now and buy buy a lot of bring
your friends, have a great two days. Matter of fact,
Michelle's been to the festival the last two years, so
she could tell you a little bit about her experience.
(07:50):
How much fun we have.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
That's a great festival. And I, you know, being having
the opportunity to be at the festival in this way
set up and sharing information about what we are doing
as far as storm relief is concerned and what United
Way does, It's going to be a perfect opportunity to
introduce maybe new audiences to how they can step forward
to help the community. And so as I think about
(08:15):
this storm relief, what we are doing is we put
money directly back into the community and so we're helping
with the coordinated efforts and agencies like Red Crofts, Salvation Army,
Urbanly Catholic Charities, the list goes on. There are agencies
that step forward through disasters like this, and so we
are working collectively to impact as many people as possible.
(08:38):
See looking forward to the festival again, Steve and I
thank you and everyone for helping to just raise awareness
around the festival being a come together moment and it
benefiting the United Way of Greater Saint Louis. We're excited
about it.
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Well, it's gonna be a come together two days and
by the time we're done, we're gonna have to show
up in the state with some other dignitaries and artists
talking about the five year progress of what is going
on in Saint Louis. We've come a long way, but
as Michelle will tell you, we got a long way
to go and a lot of money to raise and
there's a lot of other people in Saint Louis and
know the Symphony did a fundraiser a couple of weeks
(09:17):
ago at the Fox, So we really need people to
come together this year more than ever to get the
attendance numbers up. Buy your tickets or Revolution Festival dot
com and spend two days with us in the Lovely
Forest Park, which is you know, lost a lot of trees,
but we'll still got plenty of shade and in the
September we're gonna have plenty of good weather.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
Yes, it will be a little cooler in September. And
one of the things about you know when you go
to a festival like this is actually giving back to
the community and the United Way work with different agencies
throughout the Saint Louis region. As you guys talked about,
you know, Urban League and Salvation On and things of
(10:00):
that nature. This is an opportunity for people to just
be able to just give back, you know. And I'm
just encouraging people. If you're saying I don't know if
I want to go buy a ticket anyway, just buy
a ticket because your ticket is going to help somebody
that was affected by the May sixteenth tornado. So, Steve Michelle,
(10:26):
thank you guys for coming on. Steve, if you can
give me that website one more time where people can get.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
Tickets Evolution Festival dot com.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
All right, thank you guys both for coming on and
what an amazing announcement today.
Speaker 3 (10:41):
Well, we're going to see you out there in the
twenty seventh and twenty I hope both days.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Joed, you know I'm coming, man, you know I'm coming.
I'm coming, man. I want to stand on stage like
I'm a dignitary.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Why not, Well, I'll get you on stage and maybe
early in the morning when nobody's around, but catch up
on DJ. The DJ We're going to have you out.
Speaker 2 (11:07):
I love it. I love it. I thank you guys
so much. I appreciate you.
Speaker 4 (11:11):
Thank you for having us.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
