Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, everybody. Welcome back.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
I'm Ron Wilson, and you are in the garden here
on news radio six' TEN, wtvn talking about yarding on
this first day of, spring yet first day of meteorological,
spring AND i am. Excited i'm fired. UP i hope
you are. Too got a long way to go before
we get into the meat of the, season and we'll
talk about that as we go along, here keeping those
reins pulled back a little, bit but it's, here AND
(00:25):
i can't, wait And i'm, excited AND i know you
are as. Well so looking forward to the next to
three or four months as we work our way through
the spring and get to our plantings in the vegetable
garden and the annuals and the, perennials those data plants
and trees and shrubs and everything, planted and sit back
and enjoy them as we go through the summer. Season
now does that sound? Funny do you enjoy doing? That
is gardening part of your hobby that you really really like?
(00:48):
IT i, mean how would you like to be and
have a job like? ME i, mean have a career
like me THAT i have so much FUN i can
barely stand. It it's so much fun being in the green.
Industry sound good to you take that hobby and turn
it into a career where you. Can as a matter of,
fact the green industry is probably one of the hottest
industries that's out here, today, horticulture and there's so many
(01:09):
different ways you can go with. That if you're a
student in high school thinking about a career, future what
AM i gonna?
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Do if you're.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Someone that's whatever age that's had as a career right
now and you'd like to make a change because you
have so much fun working out in the yard and,
garden working with plants and doing, things this may be
something you might want to think, about as a matter of,
fact to help us, out to change our, minds to
point us in the right. Direction is our good. Friends
she's been on our show many. Times it's always a
pleasure to have her. On she's one of the most, inspirational,
(01:39):
fun upbeat ladies THAT i. Know i'll tell you. What
she's a second generation business. Owner their company Is Gardenmedia
group dot com is the website Guard Media group always
on with us talking About they do their research for
the trends for the following, seasons the following years to
find out what's going. On they're always spot on as
(01:59):
far as the gardening trends that are out. There she's
a huge gardener. Herself as a matter of, FACT i
understand she does great job doing her gardening and mixing
up a few really cool garden cocktails while she's out.
There and, again LIKE i, said she's a lot of.
Fun she's the queen OF. QVC i know you've seen
her on here many many. Times ladies and, Gentlemen Miss Katie,
(02:21):
dubao good, morning good.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Morning Run, wow that INTRODUCTION i think took up our whole. Segment,
yeah we're, done.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
So get into. Horticulture thanks for being on the end
on the. Show next week Is Green Career week and
you are here today to help our listeners think, twice
maybe think the third time about possibly changing a, career
or if you have a young student in school that
(02:50):
is thinking about a future, career to consider, horticulture which
is probably one of the green, industry probably one of
the hottest careers and hottest industries that are that's out.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Today it's, true ever since the, PANDEMIC i think what
we've seen ron is people leaving these careers where they
had to commute an hour to, work and they didn't
really find it that it was their. Passion maybe after
doing it for five, tens you, didn't you, know twenty
years and they, realized you know, what life is too,
SHORT i want to do WHAT i love and so and,
(03:23):
gardening as we all know, what became so so. Popular
people really found their, hobby found their passion for, gardening
perhaps for the first time over the. Pandemic and so
it's so fun to go to trade shows or conferences
and talk to young people or people who have just
entered this career about how much they love. It so
(03:44):
the energy is high for horticulture right. Now AND i
think it's really perfect that we have This Green Career,
week which celebrates jobs in the green, industry ron which
there are so many of. Them you, know we could
spend all the next twenty four hours or more just
listing all of the potential, jobs BECAUSE i think sometimes
people think of it as just you, know maybe just
(04:06):
you're digging in the, dirt you're starting you're starting, seeds
or maybe you're you, know they see the landscape trucks
that are out there that are doing mowing of lawns
and landscaping AND i think that's kind of the extent
of many people's variety of jobs in the. Industry but
just look at the two of. US i, mean you
are a radio star AND i get to do social.
(04:27):
Media if you love social, media you, know if you
love being ON, TV i actually get to be ON
tv for. Plants we get to talk about plants all day.
Long AND i mean you're probably in the weeds, literally you,
know figuratively on plants THAT i, am But i'm not
actually at a garden every. Day but there are jobs
where you can. Be so there's so many variety of
(04:50):
jobs out there THAT i think if, you if you love,
plants we can find a career for.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
You were you insinuating my gardens full of weeds.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
Well this time of, YEAR i doubt. IT i bet
you you've got some em spring of, framerals some snow.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Drops, yeah, yeah trying to trying to get that spring.
Going by the, way a great website for you to go.
To it's a seed Your future dot. Org seed Your
future dot org to learn more about. This and And
katie AND i both kind, of you, know it's kind
of growing up the same Way katie's.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
MOM i know her.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
Mom.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Uh you know in the uh, uh she was a
gardener in the. Horticulture it got into the horticulture and
she's so as a, child you were exposed to. That
but then when you went to, college you didn't go
for horticulture, obviously and you left out and went into
what marketing and and uh and and things like.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
That but look who came back exactly.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Exactly. YEAH i was actually a broadcast. Degree my degree
was in, broadcasting, ironically AND i thought THAT'S i wanted
to actually do sports. Broadcasting BUT i did end up
doing marketing for jewelry In New, york AND i you,
know one of the things THAT i regularly tell people
is THAT i feel Since i've come back to the
(06:01):
green industry BECAUSE i did intern With Garden Media, group
but Since i've come, BACK i have felt so. Fulfilled
and that's one of the things That seed Your future
works really hard to, do is that they work hard
to promote horticulture but inspire people to pursue careers working with.
Plants and that's WHAT i do every. Day WHEN i
tell people WHAT i, do they look at me, like
(06:23):
why do plants NEED pr or you, know public? Relations
and it's because it is such a joyful place to.
Work it, really truly is a fabulous industry That i'm
very lucky to be a part. Of you, know everybody
like that amazing introduction you gave. Me you're such a
great hype. Person but you, know most people in this
(06:44):
industry are wonderful people who are working to take someone
under their. Wing and so one of the things That
Green Career week really wants to do is inspire green,
businesses so garden centers or even you, know radio hosts
or landscape, companies, readers growers to bring in, students show
them what you're all, about so that way these students
(07:07):
can see all of the potential in the.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Industry you, KNOW i started and just like, you AND
i started at a garden center as a, loader watering
plants as a freshman in high. School AND i actually
went to college in pre vet and decided, that you,
KNOW i didn't know IF i was going to study
enough to be a veterinarian or, not BUT i really wanted.
To but my minor was horticulture just because of WHAT
i had experienced at the garden. Center And i've always
(07:31):
used this, EXPRESSION i, said you, know once you get
the mud in your. Blood you can't get it. Out
AND i got out of pre vet and got back
into a horticulture, landscape horticulture landscape, design you, know taking you,
know business classes more and got out of, college graduate
From Ohio state and have been at it ever since
and absolutely loved. It AND i think, again you look
(07:53):
at the horticulture, industry you look at the green, industry
and it's not just like you, said planting, trees shrubs
or growing things in the. Greenhouse there's so many opportunities
to be managers and business managers and marketing directors AND
pr work and you, know on and on and on.
Research you, know we look into those avenues, too you,
know the research part of the horticulture industry and all
(08:16):
of that offers so much out there. Today AND i
tell students THAT i see and try to, encourage you,
know if you're good and you really you're really into
it and you love what you're doing this particular, industry
you're going to make it big time because this industry
is looking for good people and they're they're hungry for,
it and it's a hot. Industry this is one to get.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
Into, Yeah AND i think that's really important to note
that even though we are hot, INDUSTRY i think a
lot of young people want to come in the. Industry
there's a lot of, Opportunity SO i THINK i Had
there's The National association Of Landscape professionals, now an ORGANIZATION
i know you're familiar, with did survey in twenty twenty
three and the respondents all these landscape companies said that
(08:59):
they had eighty percent of the jobs that they posted
went un. Fulfilled so that's a lot of. Opportunity so
if you love, plants or you know a young person
or anybody for that matter who loves, plants you, know
even though we're saying that the industry is really, hot
PEOPLE i think think of it right now as a.
Hobby but what we're trying to do With Green Career
(09:19):
week is let them know that your hobby can be
your career and your love for, life and that there
is opportunity even if you don't didn't go to, school
you know ron you? Had so did you end up
getting a degree in? Horticulture did you switched after year?
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Two?
Speaker 2 (09:34):
NO i got a degree in landscape horticulture From Ohio,
state and you, know you, know and again AS i
got out of THAT i you, KNOW i did. It
i've done everything from managing garden, centers landscape, designs sales, manager, MARKETING,
pr you, know a Whole there's so many different avenues
for you to go once you're in this. Industry it's.
(09:55):
Crazy you can kind of go wherever you want to.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Go you can and you don't need to have A
and maybe someone listening who is post college and they
don't have a degree in, horticulture WHICH i. DON'T i
think we want to encourage, People, sure go to, college
get a degree in horror culture if you are lucky
to be at that stage in your. Life but, also
Like ron, said this industry is ripe with people willing
to teach and ready to bring. You if you're a go,
(10:18):
getter come on. In.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Yeah but if you're willing to learn and, again you,
know bring your, skill your personal, skills come. In we
can teach you all the. Rest we'll teach you about the,
Plants we'll teach about. Horticulture we can do that as.

some stories from back in, the day and she was
just telling me once that when they first, released it
it Was Called, razzle, dazzle Right But razzle dazzle was,
already taken so they had to come up with. Another
name and she just spent hours on the phone with
the brand people just trying to figure out what to
name this. Beautiful rose and lo, and behold what do
(12:24):

Green industry so that's a really. Fun one if you're,
(13:42):
a teacher there are, lesson plans, there's curricula so there's things.
For you if you're just if you know you're a
parent and you're trying to talk to your kids about,

Speaker 1 (14:15):
The website let me ask, you this.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
And talking about the green green career next week in
the green industry and the. Horticulture industry, you know you've
gotten into a with, your company doing a lot of
research and looking at the trends things that are. Coming
along and WE unfortunately i haven't had you on this
winter to talk about the twenty twenty five trends, at
all but. We, haven't no, we haven't but as and
we've talked. ABOUT them i have talked about them on
(14:39):
the show as far as what. We've seen but always
fun having you on to talk. About that but as
you're researching that and you're looking at, ahead twofold one
IS and i don't want to get off, topic here
but what was probably was one of the most interesting
thing trends you saw or you feel for twenty, twenty
five and what are you looking at right now at
twenty twenty six at to may surprise us a little
(15:02):
bit of anything.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
Out there so one of the interesting things about twenty
twenty five actually was kind of. REITERATED yesterday i attended
the opening Of The Philadelphia, flower show which is running
this week for the next, ten days and the Theme
is Gardens, Of tomorrow and the theme Of Our garden
trends report this year Was Called, nature's renaissance and those
(15:23):
two have a very, strong connection and it's about the
future of the green industry and how nature is really.
Reclaiming spaces people no longer had this idea of gardening
gardens that have to be manicured and it's, you know
four little shrubs in a row that, are well, tightly
manicured surrounded. By mulch, you know that's not our idea
(15:44):
of what a beautiful garden.
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Is.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
Anymore now people, want wild they want things that mimic,
you know, these meadows but. Manicured meadows so it's this return,
to nature but in a. Modern way and so that's
really that was the overarching theme of our, trend report
and it was really reflected yesterday In The flower show
in their overarching theme in all of. Their landscapes it.
(16:06):
Was FASCINATING so i was really proud that we were
able to identify that before this. Kicked off, and.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
So and, YOU'RE right, i mean you're dead on with.
This ONE and i can see the emails and the
QUESTIONS that i get all the time changing. To that,
you know you can just feel that changing is. Going
over so now you folks are looking at twenty, twenty
SIX and i don't know what all you're looking you're
looking into, right now but anything Starting to, you're, like
wow this is really this.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Is going to be different in twenty. Twenty six.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
It's funny i'm sitting at my DESK and i had
to pull up my notes because we actually have our
first kickoff meeting next Week, next monday, on trends AND
so i haven't. QUITE yet i don't have them all.
Memorized yet but the first ONE that i have a
note for is one about A twenty i read a
story about a twenty six year old former astrophysics student
who left her degree to go start a, flower farm
(16:58):
And that this was something that she really felt, passionate
about and she even started her own. Flower festival and
now she started a small business and she has a
local flower farm and she sells these. Flowers locally and
the thing to, me was what are what's the potential?
For this are other young people? Doing this are they?
Leaving DEGREES so i need to do a little more research.
(17:20):
On it but so pro for our conversation today about
young people still being able to have, lucrative careers own their,
own businesses and follow. Their passions. THAT'S funny i haven't looked.
At this this one was one of the first ONES
that i put in my, research folder and here we
are talking about this exact. THING today i.
Speaker 1 (17:39):
LOVE it I got i.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
Have some friends that was At The columbus Home Of
GARDEN show i don't know about two or three, weeks
ago and some friends that have, circa seeds circa plant
and they grow, heirloom seeds vegetable flower things, like that
same Way the brandon's passion as a kid growing up
was growing things and, you know saving seeds and. Doing
whatever they've turned it into a very, good business especially
(18:03):
mail order for their packet seed packets and, you know,
same thing and you get him started and talking about
his passion for, doing this and you're just. Like whoa,
you know you're just, LIKE wow, i mean he's so so,
into it and you love seeing that that type of.
A success and they worked hard at it took him.
A while the boy they're doing, well now but again
taking that passion about heirloom plants and heirloom seeds and
(18:26):
passing that the stories and the traditions along to, the
future and, you know you're just kind, of, like wow.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
That's outstanding it.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
Really. IS yeah i love to hear stories like that
of people who either, you know found something like you
did in high school or you've come to it later.
In life and. Either way, you know the Thing About
Green career week is that it's not just. About students,
you know most of the people that that They're that
Seed your future is targeting, our students but that there
is potential. For Anybody and RON and i both welcome
(18:57):
you to try. This industry Look Up Screen career week
on seedorfuture dot dot org and you'll be able to
see if there are local companies near you doing career
fairs like you hosted one, last Week.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Right, ron yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
We did and it was amazing seeing, the again the
people that. Were there, you know you had, both students
you could tell all these high school kids, coming, in
uh looking for the probably their first job or. You
know and and then of course we had you saw
a lot of folks from that forty five fifty, sixty range,
you know maybe getting ready to retire or maybe just
tired of the career that they're in and looking to
(19:31):
make that switch because they, love gardening or they shop
there and enjoyed it so Much that i'd like to
be a part of the group because you'll all seem
to be having such a great time HERE and i
love working with plants and. All that, so yeah and
It was it's very exciting and a lot, of people
a lot of, you know looking to do that at a,
job there which was very.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
VERY encouraging i.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Love. THAT yeah, I mean i think that that's the
great thing about this is that we are helping spread
the word that this is a viable career path for
people of all ages and. IT is i think that
it's really important for people to understand that careers in
horticulture are not just fulfilling for yourself because it's, your
passion but it really is fulfilling because it's it's more critical,
than ever, you know doing what, we do, growing plants
(20:13):
getting plans to people impacts beyond just our own. Little
backyard it impacts. Our community it impacts our, global environment,
our food, our climate and, you know things that directly
affect our. Daily lives and EVERY day i feel, so,
Thankful TRULY and i know it sounds like you know
(20:33):
a little, out THERE but i truly feel thankful to
be a part of this INDUSTRY and i Feel like
i'm doing something Good and i'm giving back and not,
TO mention i get beautiful things to, look at, You
know so you just it's a win win for working in.
This industry dinner in, a.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Show no doubt. About it and see and you got
the mudd in your blood a long time ago. On
it it'll never. Go away so there, You, Go, hey

on news radio six' to. Ten wtv in so what.
Do you think are you all fired up and you
want to go out and get a career in. The
green industry i'm telling you it is A lot of
(21:53):
i have been in this all, of my life raising,
the you know we had a small farm lived out,
in The country so i've had that country. Experience As
well but i'll tell you being in, this green industry
and it's funny it's called. The GREEN industry and i
remember when that was a buzzword so many. Many years
ago was all of a sudden green was becoming the
(22:14):
new buzz, everything being, green you, know ecologically, right you
know all that. Kind of stuff the green. Was THE buzzword,
and i said you know what's interesting is we've been
in the, green industry forever growing trees and shrubs and
plants and. Things like, that but again it has changed
so much in all The years that i've been, in
this industry and it's there's so many great things you
(22:36):
can get involved with now and do out there in.
The horticulture, industry it's crazy but a great way to
just Get your toe we just kind of dip your
toe in there, a little bit see if you like.
It or not is, in the springtime go work at a,
local garden center or go work, at a, florists you
know or a maintenance firm that maybe does light clean
up if you don't want to get into too, physical
of work, but you know just to get a. Feel
(22:59):
FOR it but i think you're going to find that.
You enjoy, that and again most everybody's hiring this time,
of the year and they're looking. For high schoolers they're
looking for folks that want to. Work part time they're
looking for folks that have want to do, A career
change so now would be a great time to get
out and. Check it out so check out with your,
local garden center whoever is involved with the green industry
(23:21):
in your neighborhood and see what's available out there as
far as, part time work just to get a feel
for it and maybe it's something you might. Want to,
consider and again you don't have to have a. Degree
in it if, you love it, you enjoy it you know.
You can learn and then most of the places are
very willing to send you to classes. Or do whatever
speaking of which a COUPLE of mere i want to.
(23:43):
Remind you of we try to keep you up to
day two of great classes that you can go and
Attend The Annual Great Lakes. Region hosta college don't let
the name, fool you Here It's The Great. Lakes hostile
college they've been doing this for. Thirty two years it's
Coming up on march the twenty first and Twenty seconds A.
Friday and Saturday it's in Piqua At The Upper. Valley
(24:06):
career center but what's interesting about this is that it's
two days of classes that are absolutely they got a
bazillion classes, to go to including, Classes for hostas so
it's not. All about hostas it's about everything you could
ever imagine that's. Involved with gardening and it's. A GREAT
time it's i think at about sixty dollars you, get
(24:28):
the classes, the, continental breakfast lunch all kinds of. Stuff
like that but again to learn, more ABOUT it and
i think the registration data, is running out so you

Speaker 4 (26:35):
MORNING morning ryan i, Appreciate, your show. NO thank you
i had a quick question. A while back you had
a guest on about growing clover to. Replace, your LAWN
yes and i need to know what. HIS website was
i guess he said you can order clover. Seeds. From
(26:57):
them yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
The company is called Flaws As in flowering lawn and
Their website if, i'm not mistaken is is is flowering
lawn Dot com if. I'm not mistaken but if you
just google FLAWN f L, a w n that'll it'll
bring it up for. You as well but THEY'RE out
(27:20):
of i think, they're Out of if i'm, Not mistaken Again. Wisconsin.
Or minnesota, uh but yeah you can order everything online from.
Them right now as a, matter of fact he's going
to be back on our show here in a, couple
more weeks so we'll have them. Back ON again but
i Think it's Flowering lawns Dot com if, i'm not
mistaken or just google flawns and that'll bring it.
Speaker 1 (27:39):
Up for.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
You, as well perfect and do you have any recommendations
for a good time, to.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
See, anytime you know just, like the dormants you can
do a dormant seating like we were talking about earlier with,
our grass seating or, anytime this spring try to get
it in as early. As you, can so again it's
got time to get in rooted before we get into.
The summer season, but you know when he comes to,
these flowering lawns spring and fall both, work for those
so it can be. Done either, way but yeah you've
(28:06):
Got time in March and through april to get that
the micro clover sewn.
Speaker 1 (28:12):
Into. Your grass perfect, thanks a, Lot, all right bernie good.
Speaker 2 (28:16):
Talking with, you AND again well i just talked to
him a couple weeks ago as a, matter of fact
and going to get him back. ON the show a
lot of interest in that is we go along turning
your lawn into a flowering lawn or at least using
the micro clovers in with your lawn turf type lawns
or whatever down low doesn't flower, all that much but
nice natural way to. Feed the, lawn so yeah we'll
(28:36):
get it. Back ON again, like i say a lot
of good interest in looking at those particular options. For
THE turf but i was mentioned in, the CARPENTER ants
and i get a lot of emails and a lot
of calls during the year where folks went outside and.
Found carpenter, ants you know she's found some sawdust at
the bottom of the base of the, tree or whatever
(28:57):
and a hole and carpenter ants coming. In and out
not turn my the carpenter ants moving, in and out
and or sometimes the tree will will. Up and die
and had carpenter ants in and the carpenter ants in
quotation marks. Killed, the tree, Well THEY don't and. I
get it i, go back, to you know learning about
weeds and. Insects and pollinators not learning more about them
(29:18):
helps you as far as when something like, this comes
up knowing more about them that you understand what they're
doing and what, they're not doing and what you can
do or not need to do to keep under control
of carponerans is one. Of THOSE issues and i think
it is highly mistaken because WHEN folks, like i say,
see that happening and if the tree starts, declining or
(29:39):
dying it's the carpenter ants are.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
Killing my TREES how do i get?
Speaker 2 (29:43):
Rid of them and the bottom line is if you,
understand carpenter ants you understand that they're not. Killing your
tree what they're doing is taking advantage of the decaying
cavity that's, in your tree and they go in there
and they it's perfect for. Nesting for them and what
they'll do is some of that wood that they're using
(30:03):
for nesting and all they get the wet stuff out
of there and they, dump it out and so that's
the sawdust. That you see so they're not creating, new
saw dust they're just kind of moving things around and
getting it out so that they can make their. Nests
in there. And carpenter ants what's interesting about controlling carpenter
ants is that you can go in and spray and
(30:24):
get all the rid of all the carpenter ants that,
are in there you know that are in the cavity,
at that time and you'll see a bunch of them
going up. Down the tree but carpenterants have the ability to.
Have several nests so they may have one nest where,
the queen is but then they may have several satellite,
nests as well and sometimes it can be very hard
to control when it comes to. The ant populations and
you have to keep that in. Mind as well but,
(30:45):
point being is in many cases they're just telling you
that there's a cavity there and there's something else going on.
With a tree and that's where if you again find
these cavities and the ants going in and out there
indicating to you, that something up to have a certified
arborist come to your home and take a look. At
the tree, and many trees many trees do quite well
(31:08):
with these cavities, inside of, them all right and as
long as, there's structurally sound continue to grow and do
quite well and, live, for many. Many many years but
that's where you want to take advantage of those certified
arborists to have them come out take a, look at it,
inspect the cavities make sure the tree, is structurally sound
and they'll, make that, decision you know, IS it's yeah i,
(31:30):
think it. Is, and whatever no they don't fill those.
UP with concrete i don't think they anybody. Does that
anymore that. Type of thing you just deal with the.
Cavity that's, there but again if the if the, carpenter
answer there you can control the ones that, are in
there but they may come back because. Of other nests
but the, point being is you know they're an. Indicator
for you they're not the cause of what's. Going on
(31:53):
there and you know it's a disease or decline or
rude decline or whatever.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
May have happened to.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Cause this cavity but the carpenter answer just taking advantage.
Of the cavity you can find. This tip sheet it's
a buckeye yard and garden tip sheet that we just
put out this week on our Special website at ronwilson.
Online dot com while You Go to ron wilson online
dot com my plant picks of the. Week this week
(32:20):
as the snow goes away and we start to look
at our lawns and we start to look, at the
landscapes especially in some of the bare areas, in the
lawns you're starting to see some greenery down there that.
Isn't your grass, it's something else weeds that are starting
to grow in. Those bere areas talking earlier, about soil
temperatures watching for that fifty to fifty five degree soil
(32:42):
temperature when crabgrass and other weeds seeds annual seeds start to.
Germinate and grow so you see that Right now and
it's like it's very confusing because you're not sure what?
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Is?
Speaker 2 (32:52):
This CRABGRASS already DID i am? I TOO late did
i miss putting down my. Pre, emerged herbicide well these
what you're, seeing right now this early in the season
are those winter annuals that actually germinated and started to grow.
In the fall and of course we would use a
pre emerson in the fall to stop them from, germinating
and growing but they germinated in the fall and they
(33:14):
just sit there as little bitty seedlings in those areas
until it starts, to warm, up and boy they just
explode grow like a weed flour seed and. Then they're,
done AND so, like i say it can be a
little confusing sometimes as far AS what do i do?
At this stage? I'm too late. Blah blah blah well you're.
Not too late it's. The winter annuals they. Are an,
(33:38):
annual so remember if you pull those out, of the ground,
physically remove them. They are dead they are going, to come.
Back all right and you could, take a rake a
hard raak or a leaf rake and actually just, rake
those out and that's a pretty good way to get.
Them under control but do something like that before they
start to set flowers and start. To set seeds do
(34:00):
not want. That to, happen chick weed, purple. DEAD nettle
henbit i saw some pictures yesterday from some Folks that
had harry bittercrest already starting to grow nicely. In their landscape, bids,
per slane, bedstraw speed, well horse. Weed annual bluegrass those
are all starting to come up right now and you'll
see those grow starting to grow as the now the,
(34:22):
snows goes away temperatures start.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
To, warm up man they're.
Speaker 2 (34:26):
Going to explode and, start to go so don't let
them go to seed and make sure you get. Rid
of that physically remove them and save yourself from having
more of those seeds to deal with.
Speaker 1 (34:36):
In the fall but it's not part of the annual
weeds that we see.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
In the summertime, Please, remember that okay physical remove and
remember these, are all edible so if you, can't beat
them you. Can eat them go To Our website ron wilson.
Online dot com the. Pictures are there you can identify
what they are and identify the ones that are in your.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
