Speaker 1 (00:00):
Live from High Top Monroe Center in downtown Grand Rapids.
We're talking about what matters most to you when West Michigan.
Join the conversation now at six one six seven seven
four twenty four twenty four. At six one six seven
seven four twenty four twenty four, it's West Michigan Live
with Justin Barklay on Wood Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Oh what a gorgeous day. It's absolutely perfect to go
out the grocery getter, get the kids together, and then
go pick up some frozen turkeys for this twenty second
annual Turkey Drop Maltrotter Ministries LIVEVMS and this our sponsor
Kevin Yoder and our good friend Kevin helping make this

(00:45):
thing happen at Yoda Real Estate. We appreciate it and
we appreciate you because it it is not possible without
the support and generosity from this very audi. It's the
strap infucks here we.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Go use weather and track his stories of the day.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
We're talking about what matters most in West Michigan and beyond.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
This is the Big three. Now say speak three.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Yeah, the stories amount of most have been talking about
around the water, cool, the dinner table, no matter where
you are. Powered by my good friends at Heartland Home Mortgage.
They've got away and the team, and yeah, you know
it's it's interesting because we've been talking about interest rates dropping.
Dave's been able to save folks quite a bit of
money in these last couple of weeks, and people that

(01:34):
are ready to refive, maybe even buy a home equity
line of credit. You need to renegotiate me some credit
card debt, that type of thing. He can walk you
through it. Now is the time to take a look
at you. We've been warning folks. Last time I did
this a couple of years back, I said, never been
a better time to buy a refie. People saving thousands,
just like we have people listening to this program each

(01:56):
and every time. Either way, call Dave get the details
about what they can do to help you out at
HHM lending dot com. Yeah, it was a big day yesterday.
The President could sign that bill to release the Epstein
files as soon as today. It overwhelmingly passed the House
yesterday and well with some back and forth, which I

(02:19):
thought was kind of interesting. In fact, there's one clip
you gotta hear from Jim Jordan coming up here in
just a little bit. It head on to the Senate
where they've essentially Rubbert stamped. It looks like that's going
to happen, and the President could make that happen to
signature to Mavere Federal court blocking Texas and the new
map that redistricts the state in the GOP's favor. That's

(02:41):
the latest coming out. Now, this is a judge. It
says this new map could hurt folks that are in
the minority Hispanic's black. Now I don't I don't know
how that's possible. They use that quite a bit when
it comes to these redistricting conversations. But essentially what they

(03:02):
don't like about this is that it will add Republican
seats in the House and that helps President Trump, and
you know that's the number one thing there against Even
though this was a Trump judge who issued this ruling him,
Texas wants to take it to the Supreme Court. Six

(03:22):
elected Democrats with military and intel backlash. Are our backgrounds
actually faking or facing backlash?

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Right now?

Speaker 2 (03:31):
One of them Senator from Michigan Alyssa Slotkin. She kind
of leads the crew on this, essentially telling folks in
the military not to obey orders. It's wild.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
Asa Hockins, Senator Mark Kelly, Representative Chris de Lusio.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Congresentative christ They tell people in the military, Hey, it's
time for you to resist Trump. Sure, right now, Americans
trust their military, but that trust is at risk.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
This administration is pitting our uniform military.

Speaker 6 (04:02):
And intelligence community professionals against American citizens like us.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
No, they're not. They're putting them against illegal immigrants.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
By the way, this to me sounds like an all
out insurrection.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
Folks.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
It is wild to watch and that moment that we've hit.
Now think about this Democrats saying it's so gay for
those in uniforms to go against the orders from the
commander in chief. One of the steps needed to take
an order for a color revolution. Not good. You showed

(04:44):
it programm at any time today, love to hear you
here and of course on the iHeartRadio app. Hit that
little microphone button from our good friends at MKD. It'll
let you sound off rent Rave.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Call Justin now at six one six seven. That's six
one six seven seven twenty four twenty four West Michigan
Live with Justin Barklay on News Radio Wood thirteen hundred
and one oh six nine a f M.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Back to the floor of the house where he lets
it have him. I don't know if I can get
to the whole thing. Uh, But here he is Jim Jardon,
Congressman from Ohio, and a full rant on this whole Epstein.

Speaker 4 (05:26):
The box, and I you myself such time as I
may consume the gentleman is recognized. We all support holding
bad guys accountable, and we're all going to vote for
this resolution. But I think a little perspective is important.
Democrats have had spent six months talking about Epstein, even
though they had four years to do something about it.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
Now, why would they do that?

Speaker 5 (05:49):
Why would they do that?

Speaker 4 (05:51):
Maybe it's to go after President Trump. Never forget. They
shut down the government for forty three days. They said,
don't worryorry about our military, don't worry about air traffic controllers,
don't worry about our economy, don't worry about American families. No, no, no,
close the government for a month and a half because
it might hurt the president. For the past decade, there's

(06:15):
been one constant for Democrats, one constant, go after Trump.
They spied on his campaign. Then it was Muller, then
it was impeachment one, then it was impeachment two. Then
it was all the law Fair, Alvin Bragg, Fonnie Willis,
Leticia James. Then it was Ardy Frost investigation at the
Justice Department, surveilling United States Senators and congressmen and a

(06:40):
whole host of other Americans. Then it was Jack Smith
and his gag orders and his raiding President Trump's home.
Then it was a forty three day shutdown. And now
it's Epstein and by the way, by the way, the
same party that did all that, they were also the
ones who were texting with mister Epstein during a hearing
where Michael Cohen was their witness in another effort to

(07:03):
go after the president. Americans see through it all, and frankly,
it's actually kind of sad, this obsession, this syndrome, this
mindset that says we got to go after President Trump
no matter what that they have. And I actually, when
I think about it, I think it's because President Trump's

(07:24):
and Republicans have accomplished so much that they told the
voters they were going to accomplish in the twenty twenty
four election. We're actually doing what we said we were
going to do. President Trump said he was going to
cut taxes and he did. President Trump said he would
secure the border, and he did. President Trump said he
getting men out of women's sports, and he did. President
Trump said he would make sure i Ran doesn't have

(07:44):
nuclear capability, and he did. And he said he would
get the hostages out of Gaza basket back into Israel,
and he did all in nine months. So I don't
know what causes this mindset, this syndrome that the left had,
but I know one thing. I know one thing. It
is real, which brings me to last week. Think about

(08:08):
what the Democrats did.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Last week.

Speaker 4 (08:11):
The Democrats released an email that the Oversight Committee had
obtained from the estate, an email from mister Epstein to
miss Maxwell. When the Democrats released it, they redacted the
victim's name, something we all support, something everyone supports, except
except in this case, no court had ordered that name reordacted,

(08:33):
no agency had redacted it, and the estate didn't redact it.
And the victim had already went public. So why black
out her name? Why black out her name? Because she
had said in her book and had testified underwrote that
she never saw any wrongdoing by President Trump. So think

(08:54):
about what they did in an email between two criminals.
Mister Epstein and Miss mack Well in an email between
two criminals. They hide the name of an individual who
had went public and has gonerted the president. And we
know why, to distort and twist the message because they
thought it might harm the president. Their position, their position,

(09:18):
cover up the names of people who are already public,
but don't worry about other innocent people who the court
said should remain private. Again, I think the American people
see through it. They see through what the Democrats are doing.
The American people know what this is. They know Democrats
have nothing else to run on because of the success

(09:39):
of this administration.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
So I say, let's vote yes on this.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
Resolution and then let's get focused on making sure we're
doing what the American families elected.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Us to do.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
You know, Jim Jordan absolutely handed it to them yesterday.
Everything he mentions absolutely one percent factual. Everything he mentions
walks you through a timeline of why all of this
is political theater at best, and at worst it is
really putting people in them. I think in arms way
that it shouldn't be. We want answers, we want transparency,

(10:11):
we want accountability. It all must happen, and that's that's clear.
But when you start playing these games is the way
they Essentially the question is where have they been all
these years with all of them, all of a sudden
they care now, Yeah, same as a shutdown. Didn't want
to feed people. I couldn't feed people, couldn't get people
who really needed it. Finally, you're talking about the most
vulnerable of us. There, people that really needed it, couldn't

(10:33):
get it because they wanted us stick it to Trump.
That's that's the politics of this and I, for one,
I've had enough.

Speaker 7 (10:40):
I don't know about you, so we'll uh, you know,
we'll put some of that aside today to do what's right,
like we do every day, focusing on what matters most.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
It's the twenty second year here in West Michigan of
folks gonna armed, arm and arm together. Forget politics. We'll
talk about people, talk about helping the folks who need
it the most. And at a time when I think
it's never been more obvious what's at stake and Thanksgiving

(11:19):
rolls around every year, we count on folks just like
you listening to this program to step up, and you
do every year in a major way. I'm just so
grateful for that twenty second year well, the Wood Radio
Turkey Drop to benefit Mail Trodden Ministries LIFEVMS and of

(11:40):
course you're helping the homeless and the hurting here in
West Michigan. And you wouldn't believe how far your help
actually goes, all up and down the west side of
the state, and we couldn't be more grateful for it.
Coming up, you're hear from the folks who are behind
the scenes making it happen. But first we say thank you.

Speaker 3 (12:00):
Buy from downtown Grand Rabbits.

Speaker 1 (12:02):

Speaker 1 (13:42):
It's West Michigan Live with Justin Barklay on News Radio
would thirteen hundred and one oh six nine.

Speaker 6 (13:48):
As you're your headlines from the Midwesterner this Wednesday, November nineteenth,
I'm Robin Hoffman. It's a Midwesterner. Dot News original story
two members of state. Senator Mallory mcmorrow's full time legislator
of staff, appear to be working full time on her
US Senate campaign. The apparent double dipping comes to light
just weeks after the state Senate Business Office forced out

(14:09):
two Republican staffers over their outside political work. In other news,
Howell Township residents expected to pack a meeting this week
to decide on a rezoning request for one thousand acre
data center. The township's board of trustees will consider their
options after local residents voicing their opposition to this massive project.
Residents say they're concerned about power consumption, driving up energy costs, pollution, traffic,

(14:35):
and erosion of the township's rural character. And on Capitol Hill,
the House votes four hundred and twenty seven to one
to release the Epstein files. For these stories and more,
visit the Midwesterner at the Midwesterner dot news.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
It's just something special, folks getting together. Chris Velski here
with us right now, the CEO of Meltrotter Ministries, and
a fabulous day to get this done.

Speaker 8 (14:59):
Thank you, Chris, thank you.

Speaker 2 (15:02):
Let's talk about who gets helped each and every year,
Families from all across West Michigan such a special time
one year, I remember, it's just such a big outpouring
of support. I kind of have a feeling it'll be
that way again this year, where the turkey's reached all
the way up from Cadillac down the Kalamazoo and probably
even further beyond.

Speaker 8 (15:24):
Correct it's for West Michigan. It's it's West Michiganders helping
out West Michigan.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
It is fantastic. We have drop off locations where you
can bring and we plan to do that with our
girls a little bit later. I think it's a great
opportunity to take the kids out and show them what
this is all about, this giving back, generosity and things
of that nature. We got to let them pick out
their own frozen turkey, uh and then and then drop
it off. That's gonna be But you do it online

(15:50):
too if you need to. We got different locations to
make it as convenient as possible and digitally as well.

Speaker 8 (15:57):
Absolutely can do turkey drop dot Org. We've got different
looks around the city, and I like to hear that
you're bringing your family out and it's a great opportunity
just to tick the tribute. Then it's we actually had
a little girl. She dropped off her turkey with her
family and it was just a wonderful sight to see.
So we've had turkeys on a journey with ems dropping

(16:19):
them off, We've had families dropping them off, we've had individuals,
we've had the community coming out this morning, and yeah,
we've got to goal with five thousand. So we really
need the community to keep on coming out. But we're
we're hopeful that we're headed in the right direction that
we need folks to come out.

Speaker 2 (16:34):
Yeah, folks in this audience are familiar with Maltrodter Ministries
and all the great work you do there. I want
to ask you a little bit more about that. But
the need this year everything that we've seen. Obviously, things
are still tight and people are you know, they're seeing
some of that pressure when it comes to costs that
they're you know, these things are every year Thanksgiving, it's

(16:54):
always an issue. But you've got an opportunity to really
reach out. And I say, folks help in a way
that could be bigger and better than ever this year.

Speaker 8 (17:05):
And it's a real tangible way that people can't get involved.
So I was just having a conversation with somebody who's
working with the food banks around the community, and they
said they've seen between the twenty and thirty percent increase
in people accessing food banks because it's tight this year.
I mean there were the not benefits paused also inflation,
and people are just a little nervous this year too,

(17:26):
So we've seen that the need is greater this year
than it has been in past years. And yeah, this
is just a wonderful way that the community could come
out to sports supports the neighbor Yeah, I love it.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
Each and every year we see folks with that really
generous spirit that this audience and of course the community has.
There's something about West Michigan that that sort of thing
is just kind of like embedded in the fabric of
who we are.

Speaker 8 (17:54):
And that's that's that's the exciting part of it. It's
you know, I moved here what seven years ago, eight
years ago, and you know, I kind of knew West Michigan,
and I've gotten to love West Michigan because of the
way that we take care of one another. The philanthropic
community comes out and supports you know, needed missions, needed projects,

(18:16):
and it's it's West Michigan. It's West Michigan's great love.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
To see it. Chris, We appreciate all you do. Again,
you got some big things you're working on before we
let you go. Maybe just a thumbnail sketch of what
you do see for folks at Meltrotter there in the
coming days.

Speaker 8 (18:34):
Sure, So people think of Meltrotter as a shelter, and
you know what, that's one of the things that we do,
but there's so much more. So we do diversion and prevention.
We try to keep people from becoming homeless and then
may be paying a one month's rented, maybe negotiating with
the landlord, finding childcare. So we try to keep people
from coming into a shelter. If they do come into
a shelter, we've got great services and we've got great partners.

(18:56):
Pat and Health is there taking care of medical care.
We've got a five hundred, you've at shelter, you're at
Network one taking care of mental health care. But we
want them not to have to stay it. So we
try to help people to launch into affordable housing, transitional housing,
and then our Workforce Development arm next step of West
Michigan to help to train people for high paying jobs.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
It is such a great resource and of course all
the work at Meltrotter Ministries. It goes above and beyond
the help the community in so many ways that people
probably take for granted and don't even get a chance
to see. But that's why we appreciate you taking the
time to fill us in again. The CEO of Meltrotter Ministries,
Chris Peluski, thanks for taking the time today. Appreciate you.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
You got it twenty two years and still rolling strong.
We'd love your help Woodradio dot com or various different sites.
We'll give you more details about where you can drop
that bird. Coming up on Wood Radio after a bomb.
The hour is well back after. In fact, we've got

(20:03):
a total. We've got to get you a little bit
of an update on coming up here in just a
little bit, we're gonna get you the latest total, the
latest update on the turkeys dropped either digitally or there
in person. You gotta be careful. You don't really drop
one of these on your one of these birds on
your foot. He thinks, yeah, might get workers comp said

(20:25):
Adam and the producer. But yeah, I don't know. I wouldn't.
I wouldn't test that theory. I wouldn't test that theory. Uh,
want to get into our next guest. By the way,
we'll get you an update and talk more about the locations.
And obviously there's so many different places you can drop
them off. You go to woodradio dot com, you're gonna
find out there'll be a no location near you. Uh,
there'll be a place where you can go and you

(20:45):
can drop your turkey. And if you want to donate
as well online, we'll show you how to do that
online at woodradio dot com as well. But want to
talk if we can as we continue what till seven.
Lots of different places celebrations, Settlement North South, Melchrotter Ministries
Downtown MT. The Meltrotter thrist Store there in Jennison Gateway,

(21:09):
Missions Men's center there in Holland and a Miskegan Muskegan
Rescue Missions men's shelter as well, So a lot of
different places. If you want to help, you you definitely
certainly can. We'd love to have you give us a
hand with that today. All right, switching gears in a conversation,
we want to have Tom McMillan, who's with us right now.
He's missioned member of the Michigan State War of Education.

(21:30):
You talk about a little bit of controversy in the
last few weeks specifically they've seen it and recently, I
guess really in the last couple of years, we've seen
education and the focus really of parents get even more
intense because of what parents have noticed and seen happening

(21:52):
in their schools, and particularly since twenty twenty, Tom joins us. Now, Tom,
thank you so much for being here. We really appreciate
you taking the time.

Speaker 5 (22:00):
Oh my pleasure.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
Thanks justin So, let's let's kind of walk this, uh,
walk through this in this This is an elected position,
and you really you have that. You have the left
in the right here, just like almost in every other
situary situation, and Republicans and Democrats and correct me if
I'm wrong, but you've got people really working through different
agendas on this school board and and in ways that

(22:23):
I don't think parents really realize. They kind of probably
thought didn't pay much attention to it previously, but kind
of thought if they did that it was sort of
a nonpartisan sort of a you know, these people care,
they want the best for our kids, but they're starting
to find out there's some things happening behind the scenes
that you're not so happy about. And you're right there
in the middle of it, trying to hold the line

(22:44):
and uh and and do the best for these parents
and these kids right justin.

Speaker 5 (22:49):
Yeah, I mean there's eight people on the state board,
two Republicans, six Democrats currently and you know the Democrats
really it is an agenda. I mean, the union boss
has pretty much put them on there and they're beholden
to them. But then you get these radical left wing
groups that come in and kind of they've kind of
captured a lot of the Democrat party and you saw
that on display on Thursday. And with this approval of

(23:12):
these standards.

Speaker 2 (23:14):
Well, let's talk about the standards because they are like
people looking at this, you know, with their jaws on
the floor, pretty horrified by what they're seeing what was passing.
I know, you did a lot of people reach out
and actually comment on this.

Speaker 5 (23:30):
Yeah, I mean, you know, the procedure is in September,
the Department said, okay, we crafted these with people that
helped us.

Speaker 2 (23:37):
We don't know who.

Speaker 5 (23:39):
The House Republicans actually subpoenaed a lot to find out
who who did the crafting of this left wing stuff,
but it went out for public comment. It's formal. People
fill out a form online, they make comment. About twelve
hundred people commented, seventy eight percent oppose these standards, and that,
you know, that was about a month of comment, public comment,

(24:00):
and everybody can do that. When they came back, they
were virtually the same. They didn't remove any of the
problematic parts that people had, and they actually added I mean,
you know, we're replacing standards from two thousand and seven
that were fourteen pages long. These that we just passed
that I voted against, obviously are seventy four pages long.

(24:22):
So you know, it's just chalk full of liberal you know,
diatribes that we can go into. But yeah, there's that
was the process that we got a lot of public comment.
The vast majority of Michigan ors do not think that
boys should be able to play in girls' sports and
being girls locker rooms and bathrooms, and these standards teach

(24:43):
that as though it's a fact that boys can become girls,
and I you know, it's incredible.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
It's so unthinkable, and it's not right versus left anymore.
It's literally we're talking about common sense and reality based
versus fantasy and just radical ideology here. And it's one
of the things you just mentioned, you know, obviously boys
becoming girls, et cetera. But the other one is Tom
McMillan now with the Michigan State Board of Education with
us right now. But this is age of talking about

(25:09):
the age of when these kids should be educated about,
you know, sex ed reproduction, things of that nature, and
even some things that are not the socks off a
lot of adults.

Speaker 5 (25:23):
Right, I mean, yeah, yeah, you got eight eight year
olds learning about reproductive health, which you know, that's kind
of they're gonna be talking about abortion to eight year olds.
You know, eleven year olds are supposed to be taught
that they can they have the right to maintain their
own health. So they're going to be pushing back against
parents and hey, you know, I just learned that I'm
supposed to be the final say on this stuff. Got kindergarteners,

(25:46):
you know, being told that you've got to make sure
that your family is conserving energy. You know, Mom, I
can't take a bath because we're gonna be wasting water.
You know, it's a lot of advocacy, and like you said,
there's a lot of sex education stuff in there justin
I mean, you know, there's it's really a sexification of
our kids. You know, there are health standards in the

(26:07):
statutes and the laws that say, you know, mental health
and dental health, vision, health, nutrition, these kind of things
that are standard. Those things are mentioned only one hundred
and fifty one times in these standards, and yet gender
and sex are mentioned two hundred and fifty three times.
So it's just a it's a you know, they're just
really kind of sexist, kind of captured them and they

(26:29):
really want to you know, sex. You know, the sexification
of these kids is really troubling.

Speaker 2 (26:35):
It's just disgusting. It's despicable to think that this is
the type of thing that's happening, and you've got to
stand up and fight against as you what can the
average parent do? You know, Look, my dad was a
teacher for forty years. My wife's grandmother, she just passed
this year, is ninety eight. She was a teacher, she
was a principal. I think she was one of the
first female superintendents in the state of Michigan. So we've

(26:58):
got like this education running through our veins, and we've
got two little girls that we look at, go how
can we possibly send our kids to public schools with
all of this mess happening, and that to me is
it's it's sort of depressing, it's just downright sad.

Speaker 5 (27:17):
Yeah, I mean, you know they want to do the statewide.
Now for those who are active within their community, you know,
there is if they're going to teach sex education and
this gender ideology and other inappropriate things, they're supposed to
have a sex Education Advisory Board and that's by law
to be made up of at least half parents and clergy,

(27:39):
and so they can request to get on board that
board and really kind of help decide what those what's
going to be taught. Also, by law, parents are required
to are the schools required to give notification to parents
if any of these topics of sex education are taught
are going to be taught, And so you know, there's

(28:00):
no but although during the hearing I found out that
and I press them on this, there's no repercussion. There's
you know, no penalty if they don't let parents know,
And I think we need to change that in law.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
Tom McMillan with us right now. He's a member of
the Michigan State Board of Education. Folks are watching these
things play out, obviously being more far more involved in
this whole process of who gets in and how these
these ideologies are presented and and and fighting back. These

(28:35):
are all pieces, but you know, it's it's one of
those same time I say, it's like, yeah, what happens
in DC is important, but what happens right in your
own backyard has a far greater significance a lot of time.

Speaker 5 (28:46):
No, you're right, and so yeah, you can definitely get involved.
And it wouldn't just be parents. I mean, it's should
be grandparents. It should be people that don't have kids
in the system, because you know, I mean, these are
our future leaders are being indoctrinated in this stuff. And
you know, while Europe is turning away from this transgender ideology,
you know, you know, I think Michigan tries to be

(29:07):
like California. The Democrats want that in many ways, and
so you know, they try to they put this in
the standards, but we can certainly fight it at the
local level. And also the elections are coming up justin
as you know, and much of this can be rolled
back in statute by legislators and a governor. So this
is really an impetus and a clearion call to make
sure that everybody gets involved in next year's elections.

Speaker 2 (29:30):
You know, very good point. Tom McMullan with us right now,
State Board of Education. I said that as I important
as twenty twenty four and the elections were for this country,
I believe twenty twenty six is going to be the
same for the state. I really do. I think it's
it's going to be critical that we all get out
and that we get involved and that we make sure

(29:52):
that we restore this sort of sanity. And that's that's
where I think the polls of the people is right now. Anyway,
is that satty, Let's bring that back to the State
of Michigan in a number of different ways. So we appreciate.
Will you come back and let us know as you
have developments on this and various other things, keep us
updated on what's going on there. Board.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
Absolutely, we're not going away. This is you know, we
got to everybody needs to stay engaged. We lost this
little fight, We're going to win the war in the
long run, so let's keep fighting.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Tom McMillan, Michigan State Board of Education. Where can folks
stay have to date with you online?

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Tom?

Speaker 5 (30:26):
Well, I mean I do have a Facebook page, you
you know there I have If you searched on Facebook.
I'm kind of an older guy, so I don't I'm
not into the other avenues, but really Facebook, you know
state Board of Education member, you'll find me.

Speaker 2 (30:41):
There you go. We'll make sure that we put that
up on our stack today. Thank you, Tom, appreciate your
hard work.

Speaker 5 (30:47):
Ub Less any anytime, justin thank you you too.

Speaker 2 (30:52):
We're back folks more. By the way, I think we
have an updated total to give you today on the
twenty second annual Turkey Drop from Melchrotter Ministries presented by
Life Ems and this hour sponsor are good friends. Kevin
Yoda at Yoda Real Estate got another update for you,
and we'll hear from the folks on scene right now
is those turkeys are flying as God is my witness.

(31:15):

Speaker 3 (31:17):
Hang out tackling the hot button issues with style.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
It's West Michigan Live with Justin Barklay on Youth Radio
Wood thirteen hundred and one oh six nine a f m.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
Well, we've got the latest Dow.

Speaker 9 (31:29):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (31:30):
Well, we've got the latest Dow with Green S and
P Green Nasdaq Green and the headline from CNBC right
now says the S and P five hundred rises ahead
of Nvidia earnings, so they're up a couple hundred points.
And obviously every day as we talk and we look
about what's happening in the markets, you know, you see

(31:51):
this roller coaster ride you're on, investments coming in, coming out,
let's the economy actually look like inflation? All those pieces
of the puzzle that you're trained to put together for
yourself when you're looking at retirement and whether you want
to retire today, tomorrow, ten twenty years down the road,
it really doesn't matter. You got to make sure you've
got a plan and you need one that works, one

(32:11):
that won't keep you of a night, one that won't
make you nauseous on that roller coaster ride. And the
folks in town on Wealth can help you do that.
Mike Lester and the team take a holistic approach. A
customize strategy is what they design for you, by the way,
somebody that will not only grow your wealth but also
work to protect it. You want to find out how

(32:32):
they can get you set so you're ready no matter
when and where you want to go. Mike Cluster and
the team are waiting now. Call them today at sixty
one six sixty six one one thousand. That's six one
six sixty six one one thousand, or reach out at
guarding your nest egg dot com. But do it today
before it's too late.

Speaker 6 (32:50):
Here are your headlines from the midwestern Or this Wednesday,
November nineteenth. I'm Robin Poffman. It's a Midwesterner dot News
original story. Two Democrats have apparently been caught double dipping.
Records appear to indicate that two members of State Senator
Mallory mcmarrow's full time legislative staff appear to be working
full time on her US Senate campaign. This matter coming

(33:11):
to light just weeks after the State Senate Business Office
forced out two Republican staffers over their outside political work.
Here in Michigan, local residents fighting a proposed huge data
center on one thousand acres. The Midwesterner reporting there will
be a big meeting Thursday night in Howell Township, residents
expected to voice their concerns about pollution, traffic, power consumption,

(33:32):
driving up energy costs and erosion of the township's rural character.
To the White House, where President Trump hosting the Saudi
Prince and on Capitol Hill, Congress votes for twenty seven
to one to release the Epstein files. For these stories
and more, visit the Midwesterner at the Midwesterner dot.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
Billy Moulder's with this right now. She's a triage coordinator
at Meltrotter Ministries and obviously twenty two years at Meltrotter
and helping the homeless and the folks who need it
most here in West Mishie. Every turkey, every dollar, every
dime donate, it goes to feed the folks here in
West Michigan. Hayley, thank you for joining us today. Appreciate

(34:10):
you being here. Oh can you hear me?

Speaker 9 (34:17):
Yes?

Speaker 2 (34:17):
Oh? Hey, we thought we had your breaking up. Either
that or it's like a flock of turkeys in the background.
Sounded like they had taken over. But I'm I'm supposing
people are dropping off frozen birds today, aren't they?

Speaker 9 (34:29):
Yes, yeah, frozen birds.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
So you should have a problem with that, hey, Haley,
tell us what you do there as as a member
there at the TRIOGE coordinator at Meltrotter.

Speaker 9 (34:38):
Yes, So I support the team that sits an our
day center, our Trioge staff, and they help connect guests
to resources and navigate ways to get out of homelessness.

Speaker 2 (34:50):
So when people come in and they might be at
one of their lowest points. It's just that they need help,
and they need a little compassion, little empathy, and they
need a little hope. And I'm assuming you get down
to business find out exactly what they need to point
them in the right direction. But this is not something
that's happened overnight. Mal Trotter Ministries have been doing this

(35:11):
for years now.

Speaker 9 (35:14):
Yes, yes, I always say that our team that gets
the opportunity to be our guest number one fans, they
get to support them and pick them up on their
lowest days, but also celebrate with them on some of
the good days, like when they get jobs or it's
their birthday. They really get to wrap around our guests
and support them while they're at Meltrotter and guide them

(35:38):
in a direction out to stable housing.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
We've been talking about how generous this whole area is
West Michigan. Again, We've been doing this for twenty two years.
This Turkey Drop thing would have fizzled a long time
ago if it weren't for the folks like you who
are listening to this program, who help make it happen
every year and just pour out that kindness in the
generosity out of heart. By the way, I've got a

(36:01):
new total here. Let me make sure I get this
correct because I can remember a time and this is
wild to say, but I can remember a time Hayley
with a total we have right now was the total
we hit for like the entire day. Right now, we're
at seventeen hundred and thirty four turkeys so far. That's huge.

(36:23):
It's what a great number. But you know, our goal
this year is five thousand. The need is bigger than
ever and we know we're gonna get there with your help.

Speaker 9 (36:34):
Yees, that is incredible. I've this is my seventh turkey
drop and so it's just great to see how much
it grows and to know the need of five thousand
turkeys this year. We're excited and hopeful to hit that goal.

Speaker 2 (36:50):
Now. Next week I'll fill in for Glenn Beck on
the nationwide program after Thanksgive the day after Thanksgiving, but
we're kicking Glenn to the curb today. I know if
it's Glenn, but I think prove if you knew obviously
the cause is great. For the next couple hours after
this show, Steve and Lauren and various others in Telnoon
and Clan buck Back on the air when we're gonna

(37:12):
be talking about all the things that are going to
give you a chance to join it. Then again, they'll
be back live today at five pm at Celebration Centuma
North to talk about how you can help and some
of those drop off locations. We'll go ahead and list
for folks right now. We got Celebration North and South.
We got Meltrono Ministries downtown, the mpt of thrist Store
in Jennison, Gateway, Missions Men's Center there in Holland, and

(37:36):
Muskegan Rescue Mission Men's Shelter in Muskegan. But those are
a couple of different places at a couple of locations
where you can drop off online as well at Woodradio
dot com where you can make your donation. Haley, we
always appreciate all of the hard work and everything that
you all do behind the scenes. We really couldn't do
it without you. And West Michigan is greater for you

(37:58):
having been here.

Speaker 9 (37:59):
Thank you, Thank you.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
You gotta keep up the great work, folks. Haley again,
she's there with Melchrotter and she's been there seven years.
As she said, the seventh Turkey drop, Haley Maulder, the
triage coordinator there helping make things happen behind the scenes.
Go out and say hi to some of these folks
that are making it work every single day. Now, no
after show today, and the Glenn Back program isn't coming up.

(38:23):
But a couple of turkeys who I'm fond of I
can say that myself, Steve Kelly and then Lauren Spent
we join us in studio after the top of the
arm we get you the news next. Thank you so
much for all you do West Michigan. Make it a
great day. God bless

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
