Speaker 1 (00:00):
The FBI says it's discovered twenty four hundred new records
associated with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy joining
us now on the KWA Common Spirit Health Hotline to
talk more about it. As Ihart Media national correspondent Rory O'Neil. Rory,
thank you so much for your time again this morning.
I mean, the big question for a lot of people
is how how do we just discover twenty four hundred

(00:21):
new documents on this well, Gina, The.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
FBI says it's largely because of computers. You know, back
in the day, the records for these things were physical
records in some filing cabinet in some city somewhere in
the basement. But now that all this stuff has been
put on computer, the FBI says, it's much easier to
track down these documents. Now, the twenty four hundred that
have been found, most of the assassination experts are saying,

(00:47):
lower your expectations. It's probably not some big bombshell revelation,
but it might, you know, sort of fill in a
few gaps here and there. They're curious to see what's contained.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Yeah, when we talk about what could be on them,
do we have any details right now or is there
a timeline of when these could be publicly released right So, the.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
FBI says it's turned It is in the process of
turning over the twenty four hundred documents to the National
Archives for declassification. Uncertain how long that could take. They
didn't get into details about what's in these documents. Many
suspect though they could be related to the CIA, could
be some embarrassing stuff for the CIA in this, which

(01:27):
may relate to travel that Lee Harvey Oswald did about
six weeks before the assassination. You know, he went to
Mexico City six weeks earlier in the summer of nineteen
sixty three and actually went to the Soviet embassy there
for a while. You know, did the CIA know that
at the time? Did they not alert the FBI when
he returned to the US. All those kinds of questions

(01:48):
and some of them may be answered in these files.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, it's fascinating, Rory when we talk about this. Is
this part of President Trump's recent executive order to release
more files about certain assassinations? Is this the effort that
took place?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
It is this is a direct result of the President's action,
And you know, during his first term, President Trump tried
to declassify everything, but some national security concerns prevented him
from doing everything. You know, it's interesting. I'll be curious
to see if anything that's released of these twenty four
hundred new documents is redacted still, which could be pretty

(02:24):
interesting going forward. And plus the president wants a more disclosure,
full disclosure about what we know about the assassinations of
MLK and r FK.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
Yeah, Rory. When it goes to those assassinations as well,
do we expect to see more documents? Will we have
a similar announcement from the FBI saying more documents have
been released when it comes to the MLT Junior assassination.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Right, That's what we're all sort of on standby for.
I think those cases are a bit more cut and dry,
but again, what sort of may have have led up
to those killings? Maybe that could be more have some
interesting investigative points as a result. But I don't think
there's any doubt about who was responsible for the murders
of Robert F. Kennedy and doctor King.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
iHeartMedia National correspondent. It's Ory O'Neil. Thanks Rory, Thanks Gina,
