Speaker 1 (00:00):
Certainly wasn't pretty, but it was a w as the
Broncos beat the Raiders ten to seven in a defensive
battle on Thursday night football and Empower Field at Mile High.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I mean, they did a good job on defense.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
They kept us short on several drives, I thought first
and taking that production wasn't bad. And then obviously several
drives penalties killed us.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
But we definitely didn't help our jobs tonight.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
That's for sure. Quarterback Bowneck throwing for just one hundred
and fifty yards a touchdown too interceptions. Still Broncos sitting
atop the AFC West now eight and two and joining
us in the KWA Common Spirit Health Studio. Rick Lewis,
Broncos color analyst, host of The Rick Lewis Show on
one oh three five The Fox. Wow, all right, I
mean we'll take it.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
I guess, you know, sometimes you got to wat.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
Were speechless at the end. That was really funny just
to like listen.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
To the post Yeah.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
See, like I don't know if we were reading texts,
you know, which we do every game in the postgame,
and there was a point where we both just stopped
and looked at each other.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
There was silence for like a minute. Andy, They was like,
are you gonna say something? I'm like, I'm waiting for you.
What are we doing here? Yeah, fans are frustrated and
angry and upset, and I totally get it.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
There was a lot of booing.
Speaker 4 (01:20):
Yeah, that was a hard game to watch. That was
a hard game to call. Sometimes you gotta win ugly,
but it's it's getting a little old. I mean it's
great to win, don't get me wrong. The team is
eight and two, they're on top of the the AFC.
But man, it's just from week to week, it's a
little hard to stomach at times. And you're right, there
(01:42):
was a lot of booing at the game last night.
Fans have just about had enough. And it's and it's
the frustrations with the offense. The defense is playing lights
out every game. They are carrying this football team from
week to week. I fully expected Bonnicks the offense to
come out last night against a Raiders team that's reeling
(02:05):
and score a lot of points. The Raiders given up
over twenty six points a game and Broncos only mustered
up ten. I thought that was maybe bone Nicks's worst
game of his career. He just did not look settled.
He had happy feet. He looked a little bit confused
at times. And well, we got it behind us. Have
(02:27):
what they call him mini bi. So about ten days
off before the Broncos played the Chiefs here at Empower Field.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Yeah, the Tex string.
Speaker 1 (02:35):
From my buddies watching the game, there's six or maybe
even ten of them. Maybe we should just kneel down
the rest of the game and get our defense back
on the field. I can't get anything past Franklin eight
and two. I don't think there's a team out there
that can beat us. That's called sarcasm, no doubt. We
struck fear into the hearts of case players tonight and
they managed to put some lipstick on.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
A pig boy.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Let's look at some positives here, Rick, and get your
take on this. The Broncos giving up the second fewest
yards per game in the league to Houston, lead the
league in sacks by a wide margin. Giving up seventeen
points a game, you're going to win in the NFL.
If you're doing that with this defense, can we pretty
much assume they'll be in every game?
Speaker 2 (03:19):
I would assume that.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
Yes, the pass rush is ferocious, and last night you
saw six sacks. Nick Benito was just about unstoppable from
his edge position. I think the defense will carry the
team the entire season, and we may see more games
like this. We probably will where the offense struggles. But
(03:41):
last year, in bow Knicks's rookie year, we saw him
get much more comfortable and play much better down the stretch.
Less four or five games for bow were really really good.
I'm expecting that to happen this year as well. We
know he's got it in him. I think they will
figure it out, but for now, the offense is still
a work in progress.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Ugly special teams too. And I know we'll talk with
Susie a little bit. She's on the sideline, so maybe
she can talk a little bit more of if the
wind really played in with Crawshaw. But but man, I
mean that was that was really ugly. How do you
how do you really fix that up and button that up?
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah, the punter had a bad night.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
He hit He hit a couple of punts like off
the side of his ankle, almost not just.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
His one, he almost whiffed on one punted.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Yes, some of those punts looked like how I used
to look on the golf course. That's why, that's why
I quit the game. I'm like, okay, I'm not doing
this anymore. And he looked like he was really dejected
and down. I saw players coming up to him on
the sidelines trying to pump them up.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
But yeah, he did not have a good night.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
Broncos did block a punt on special teams and that
certainly influenced the outcome of the game. And once again
they when they had to in crunch time, they they
win the football game a game winning field goal by
Will Lutt. Broncos are winning these one score games this season.
(05:08):
I think they're six and two now in one score games.
The two that they lost were in Game two, in
Game three back to back, they lost at the end
of the game. So they have found a way to win.
And so if you're looking for a positive, that's it
right there.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
So let's look down a month or two from now.
They have four home games left. They haven't lost at
home this year. Important to note the Chargers and the
Chiefs also have four home games left. But if they
stay in cruise control like this, and I don't know
if you can call it cruise control, but you know,
they are a step ahead. It's their division to take
(05:43):
at this point, I think, oh yeah, they're in the
driver's seat for sure. With the Chiefs coming into town
and Andy Reid on after a bye week is almost
undefeated in his career. I mean, he is so good
after a bye week, Broncos will have a couple extra
days to prepare for the Chiefs. I'm going to go
(06:03):
out on a limb right now and say the Broncos
will look much better against Kansas City. This was a
bit of a trap game to me, on a short
week playing a team that's not very good with the
Chiefs down the road, I felt like it was a
bit of a trap.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
It looked like it the way they played. They came
out flat. They were flat the whole game on offense.
But man, on defense, they were incredible.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
Social media poll question, as always, grade overall performance for yesterday.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
Man, well, defense, you have to give the defense an A. Offense,
I'm going to give a D, so i'll give it.
I'll give it a C plus. Man, I'll give it
a C. The combination, I'll give it a seat. It
was not a total.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Teams are what we're seeing right now.
Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yah, But defense was great.
Speaker 3 (06:52):
I think a lot of people are doing A and F.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Yeah, I could see that as well. It's got to
get better on office, There's no doubt about it. This
is probably not sustainable. You're going to get into the playoffs,
but you're not going to go very far if the
offense is this inconsistent.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
All right, broncos Color analyst, host of the Rick Lewis
Show on one oh three five The Fox. It's Rick Lewis.
Hey appreciate you as always. How much sleep did you
get last nar?
Speaker 2 (07:18):
I got about three hours? How about you guys? Well
the same.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Actually, yeah, that's kind of a normal quick turnaround when
you're getting here at two in the morning.
Speaker 2 (07:26):
But there's no good way to do it.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
Is there.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
We'll tell you what.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
After our shows, Why don't we get together in one
of these empty offices here and take a nap, to
take a nap together.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Yes, thanks Rick,
