Speaker 1 (00:00):

Dave Logan, Ryan Edward, Shelby, Harris, what's up.

Speaker 3 (00:07):
Shelby Man, We're going, baby.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
We're going. We got heaters. We're good, It's great.

Speaker 4 (00:14):
I'm from Wisconsin. We don't believe in heaters. Baby.

Speaker 5 (00:16):
Oh well there, well, Dave will take the extra one then, No,
I tell you what I'm I'm battling the cold, so
I will take that heater and raise you two hundred.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
I like the honey man, I like the hoodie.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Let's goot a damn ears a freezing. They're big enough
to be cold, and they're cold.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
But you know, remarkably, this is not the coldest opening
day you've ever attended.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
No, no, no, I mean it's not. It's it's it's okay, yeah,
I mean it's not. It's not warm. But we we've
seen baseball played worse conditions than this course opening day
to day.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
The beauty of opening day in Colorado, baby, you know,
I mean you could get any weather that's Colorado. One
day could be eighty, the next day could be forty.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Where it's one of my favorite days of the year
being down here downtown Denver, enjoying it, seeing the buzz
of the city, and you know, regardless of where the
Rockies are, and of course they've already played about a
week of baseball, people get excited.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
About this stave. I mean, again, you've been doing this
for thirty years.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Thereabouts, and every single year there's just like this renewed
hope in the team, despite maybe some feelings about how
their performance might be.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
I think I think baseball was one of the one
of the reasons that the phrase hope springs eternal was created,
right and certainly for Rockies fans, because I mean, every
single year we have been here either situated right here Corsfield.
This park opened in nineteen ninety five, but the Rockies

(01:42):
played in nineteen ninety three, and we have been here
for open to day because obviously we carry all the games.
So it's just a great day. It's a fun time,
and it's great to have baseball back in Denver.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
So a couple of things here. First of all, again,
we're excited to be here. If you want to come
by and say hi to We're at twentieth in Blake,
so and we had coverage all morning long, free games
going to start at one point thirty.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
We are here.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Of course, kwa's Rocky Opening Days is presented by Pella
Windows and Doors of Denver and Northern Colorado. Pella dot
Com check out their booth. They have a raffle going
on for one hundred dollars gift card to a Colorado
Rockies store, So we want to come down and check out.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
That's as well as say hi to them.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
We're gonna be giving away a pair of Rockies tickets
to today's game in the next twenty minutes or so.
So just come on down here. Anthony Rod is hanging
out here. If he wants you to do the air
horn Anthony that where that's it? Yeah, So come up
to Anthony. I can't believe I did that on the air.
Come up to Anthony and do that either.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Do that again?

Speaker 2 (02:43):
No, my dad must be very proud. Thank you. Shall
we coming back?

Speaker 1 (02:50):
So do that to Anthony, and you get a pair
of tickets if you are. If you don't have tickets
to the games yet, you can get a pair from
us in the next half hour or so.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Come on down, you will say.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Describe Anthony I mean to be.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
Everybody knows Anthony.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Rod I described his earware.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah, how would you describe that? Like, uh, what is that?

Speaker 3 (03:10):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Ear musk?

Speaker 3 (03:12):
Have you never seen a near musk? I have?

Speaker 2 (03:14):
It's just got That's like the princess lea buns.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Like that's it.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
That's what it reminds me of.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
Wow, she's a Star Wars nerds, so he appreciates it.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Well A LISTA he at LISTA is in the outfit
for Return of the Jedi.

Speaker 3 (03:27):
Dark Vader, way over my head. Harry Potter could.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Really oh yeah, very hard, die hard, but you know.

Speaker 4 (03:37):
Not really if you're really committed, you gotta choose one
one way.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
I went to everyone dressing like a wizard. What you
gotta choose Harry Potter? Or who Star.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
Wars Harry Potter, Star Wars, word rings, all the like
the nerd stuff you gotta get, you know, you have
to like really commit the one.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
Okay, I couldn't disagree with you more.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Is this a Wisconsin thing? What are you doing here?

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Or everything from the great state Leveland did you just
ask him? Are you a true nerd? Well?

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Yeahs many days you work.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
I do not have flannel. Today today I didn't go flannel.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
I went with more of the uh, just a I don't know,
a sweater or something like that.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
But so so again, we got the.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Opening day, we're gonna check in also because it's Pro
day for CU, We're gonna be checking in with Ben
Albright and Nick Ferguson coming up here in just a
little bit because they're out there in Boulder.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
I'll coming back to the Rockies though.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
You know, this is such an interesting thing because I
think I love what Jack Corgan said earlier when he
was talking to Manny and Ross Dave. He talked about
how it's contagious, like, and I think that's really in
all sports, right, but baseball specifically, it's like once you
start to gain some momentum, you really can feed off
of that. And I think the biggest question comes down
to their offense right now. If I had the one

(04:48):
thing that I'd like to see today against the Athletics
at BC, the offense kind of get going.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
Yeah, I think I think any Rockies fan would say
that after the first six games. I mean, as you
said yesterday, there they're starting starting rotations.

Speaker 4 (05:01):
E R.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
A is is under two, uh, and yet they're they're
one and five. So they just haven't been able to
string together runs.

Speaker 6 (05:09):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
Hits. What they've had to have, they've had, They've had
two or three opportunities seemingly, especially in the last game,
where you've got runners in the story position, you've got
to find a way to uh to get a hit
and drive them in. So and it's been something that
is playing this team the last couple of years. So yeah,
let's let's let's hope they can get things going offensively
starting today here against the Athletics, the Ultletics, Sacramento, Acer Mido,

(05:37):
the Las Vegas. I mean, what the hell are they?
They're the Athletics.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Yeah, if you look at it up at just as
at h Let's, they don't even know the city.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
It's just a yeah, weird, they don't even have a city.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
No, no, just a thh that's all they are.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
But but yeah, that that stat that I gave Dave yesterday,
they have the best e R for starting pitching in
baseball right now and they're one in four.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
You know that that is.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
That just shows though that the starters are getting it done.
You know, they're getting their five or six innings and
they're getting it done, and the relievers are coming in
and they're just not you know, holding their into the bargain.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
So in order for the.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Rockies to be successful, the relievers have to step up.
Obviously we can talk about the hitting because they've been
non existent, and would runners in scoring because it's scoring position,
but also, you know, just the relievers have to have
their starters backs. Imagine how frustrating it is you go
out there and you're giving quality start outs, a quality
start and then you.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
You're one in five.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah, the relievers it's like over nine ERA versus your
starters are like one three six the saly.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
I mean, it's just remarkable.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
It's a remarkable stat And I mean we talked to
Bud Black right before the season started and he pointed
to some optimism there with the relievers. But again, if
if I'm laying it all out the way I see it,
I still think that the offense is kind of the
bigger concern right now, because again, you have you have
some guys on this team that essentially should be able
to be able to carry you at times. They're gonna

(07:03):
have to get Listen, Chris Bryce going to show up, man,
And I know he didn play this last game, but
he's gonna he's gonna have to be more of a factor.
But there are guys that that I think that they
counted on like totally. For example, I think they thought
he was going to start off the season because he
ended last year and he just really hasn't shown up.
But they've seen some things from from Goodman, their ketcker,
and he's kind their hottest at so far.

Speaker 6 (07:26):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
Again, I think it's been a struggle for the Rockies
the last couple of years to generate offense, which is
you know, if you if you grew up with this
team as we did here, I mean that was not
the issue for the longest of time. With respect to
to the Rockies, Russ always about always about pitching. What
are you gonna be about the pitching? Starting pitchers were relievers,

(07:48):
middle relievers that they were always uh sort of looking
for guys that could commit to deal with the altitude
and deal with the challenges of being a pitcher on
this team that plays half their games here in altitude.
The last couple of earsman that their their offense is
just uh, and I think they they fight the mix

(08:10):
and match to get some young players who have ability,
who are good defensive players to be Brittan Doyle, it's
one of those guys, he's a over actually two goal
gloves in center field, but his you know, his his
offense and inconsistent as well, so scoring runs and being
able to generate some sort of consistent offense. I think

(08:35):
it's going to be the name of the game for
the Rockies.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Just got to be. And this is something we've talked
about a ton Dave.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Is just that you don't want to be leaky boat
syndrome where all of a sudden you get one thing
fixed and then the other thing falls apart. Right, So
in this case for the Rockies, hey, the bast show
up today. Ryan Felders still got to carry and do
his parts right, and then the bullpen of course has
to do their part. And boy, they got some guys
there with the athletics that.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Can rake, I mean absolutely ball hitters out here.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
And despite the fact that it's going to be a
little bit chilly, we could for some fireworks. And that
that's the thing, SHELL like for this team right now,
they remain their margins are so tight and I really
don't know how to fix that, especially.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Now because you are your roster is what it is, right.

Speaker 4 (09:17):
Well, the roster is what it is. But the luckily
for the Rockies. They do have some prospects. I don't
know if you don't want them to get their service
time or anything like that, but the Rockies do have
prospects that can come and help. But like you said before,
their players got to step it up. Their main hitters
like Tovar, you know, McMahon, like, we need these guys
to go and actually start producing Man. But like you know,

(09:41):
like Goodman, though, good Man, he's good. He's been blown
out the park because he's been so good. He's been
such a he's been such a good hitter. And so
it's all about everyone's just you know, carrying their weight
and doing their part. And and that's where the Rockies
have been falling short this whole season.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Another conversation that I really like from Jack Corrigan earlier
in I'd plan on getting into this at some point,
and I don't know, it's it just seems appropriate because
I know that the owner, Dick Montfort, talked about it
with Mark Kisla about a salary cap. And again, you know,
you're in the season. This is not going to affect
anything that you're going to do this year. So hopefully
the Rockies can kind of figure some things out and

(10:18):
put together a competitive season.

Speaker 2 (10:20):
But I'll start with you, Shelby. I mean, would you.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
Like to see you're a baseball fan, would you like
to see and do you think baseball needs some kind
of a salary cap and or floor?

Speaker 4 (10:28):
I want to say any of the salary floor, okay,
because that is what we see with a lot of
these small market teams is that every year the salary
caps gets smaller and smaller and smaller. Their payroll just
keeps dropping. And what you need to see though, because
obviously the Rockies are in divisional team. You know, you
got the Dodgers, you know what I mean, You have

(10:49):
the Depodits. You have teams who aren't investing in you know,
in their organization and in their and in the free
agent picks. Not a lot of other teams are. And
so what you want to see, though, it's more competitive baseball.
No one's surprised the Dodgers are undefeated, but you know
what I mean, like that, that's not a surprise. They
thought they've bought the last to all the off seasons.

(11:12):
So no one's surprised at the Dodgers. But you want
to see teams like the Rockies, the Royals, the Brewers.
You want to see it that come in October. They're
competitive because there's too many teams now where it's only
it's the top five teams. You got the Gang teams,
you got the Mets, you know what I mean, you
got you got these teams that all spend all this
money who are competitive, and then it seems like they

(11:32):
just overpower these small market teams where you can you
don't even have a chance, and that's where you're going
to lose the common fan. And I just believe that
if you do a salary floor, or even even if
you chose to do a cap, you make it that
it's more competitive through the lead. Because at the NFL
every year, you know, you know, even in basketball, year
in and year out, these teams are all competitive, and

(11:53):
they all have their all the small bundle of star
players that you can build around.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Some of these teams don't have anything to even build around.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
So a floor would make it that at least these
teams have it's been a certain amount of money to
be competitive, and I think that would be better than
what we've seen really in the last.

Speaker 3 (12:12):
Couple of years.

Speaker 2 (12:13):
Do you hear that, Dave?

Speaker 3 (12:14):
Well, you know what I would like, because I know
Dick Montford laid out the plan, but we're we're hoping
to have him on today so we can kind of
ask him that question. I'd want to hear what that
what that plan sort of looked like, sure, you know
what it what what it was all about? I think

(12:37):
in this in in this market, this is a mid
market team, and I think and I think I think
there are great, great fans here that support the Rockies teams.
I don't think, I mean, it would be great if
every single year you were you were competing for the
playoffs and ultimately for the World Series, for sure. But
I think, honestly, if if the Rockies were a team

(12:59):
that every three seasons or so were a competitive playoff push,
we're in it in August and September, got into the playoffs,
you know, maybe won a playoff series. I mean, had
that kind of success that he had, like the seven
season more where it just was a remarkable run to

(13:22):
the finish line. They went twenty one out of the
last twenty two games. You know, they win a couple
of series, they go to the World Series spectacular, but
you know you've got to be able to do that.
I think every three or four seasons and they just
haven't been able to have sustain that sort of that

(13:44):
sort of plan.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
That's exactly right, because it feels like, based on the
current model, you're almost hoping to catch lighting in a bottle, right.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
I mean there's a little bit of it.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
And I don't mean this in a negative way, but
you're relying on a bit of luck, as in we
drafted and developed the right guys that just happened to
work out. Because again, baseball, I mean, how many rounds
ere a draft, right, It's like thirty rounds in a
baseball draft. Yeah, and some of those guys don't ever
even play baseball.

Speaker 2 (14:11):
But the point of it is maybe.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
More now than I think about it, right, there's so
many other laughs.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
So that's a lot rule, that's right.

Speaker 4 (14:17):
National draft, like, is it so many different places where
you draft and you're hoping for your team to find
a you know, a diamond in the rough that's it,
you know, Jackson Curio, you know.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
Yeah, I mean I think Mike Yats was like a
sixty second round I mean, honest to goodness, yeah, you know, guys.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
So that's I'm saying, like you're you're sort of hope.
Hope is the word you use, right, You have a hope,
you have a maybe, maybe this is the year we
can put all these things together. Meanwhile, teams like the
Dodgers and the Yankees and the Mets and the Padres
and all these teams that are spending at the upper echelon,
they don't have to hope, they don't have to wonder
they're going to be able to bring in those kinds
of talent. They have a certain floor, as you brought up,
a certain floor of performance that they know they're going

(14:55):
to get. And I think that's more than anything what
it is. It's like, I think that you build a
better brand for baseball if that competitive balance is raised.
That's that's where I'm coming from on all of it.

Speaker 4 (15:08):
Well, baseball is at a point right now where you
can go one or two ways. We can keep going
the way it is, and you're going to extracize the
normal fan because unless you're a Dodgers fan, unless you're
a Yankees fan, I mentioned one of a fan of
a team that's spending a lot of money is not
gonna be fun for you because every October, you know
you might get one Anominally you know, every ten years

(15:30):
of a team that had all the underdogs that came
in one because obviously baseball is a game where if
you get hot, it doesn't matter what your name is,
you can't be beat. But the issue is that talent
usually outweighs a lot of that. And so when you
have these teams that you know, just I know what
you're talking about, the Dodgers, but just look at their
off season of all the talent they brought in. Then

(15:51):
they bring in international top talent also on top of that.
So it's just it's a tough it's a tough team
to compete against. It really, you know, any other team
out there. So I believe that the Rockies are in
a position where, you know, they got to decide, you know,
what is our next, what is our plan? What is
our future? Because we do have to play teams in

(16:11):
our division, in our own division, like the Pas and Dodgers,
who spend all the money.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Of course they're you know, as a proud Yankees fan,
Dave Logan would tell you that there's still plenty of
room on the fan wagon for the Yankees if you
really want, oh yeah.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
To jump on that reason. I was a Yankees fan.
I grew up in Denver. We didn't have we didn't
have a major League baseball team. Yeah right, so somebody,
Mickey Mannal was my guy, so it was it was
the Yankees for me. So Mickey Manno, wow, Mickey Mannel.

Speaker 2 (16:39):
Plus they have some pretty cool gear. I mean, for
what it's very classic free class. Yeah, we'll give him
some credit off. And at least it wasn't the Dodgers.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
My god, if you were a Dodgers fan, I don't
even know what I'd say to you.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
No, I know, listen, I'm root against the Dodgers every
single chance ticket. I know that about you. I don't
even know why.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
They're not very likable. I personally, I just not anymore.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
No big no big market team is really very likely,
and he's aren't very likely, especially with the torpedo bats.
You know we're talking about the you know, wait, rob
with torpedo bats, well, yeah, cause they've murdered oh you know,
Sexy Nasty went out there in the first three pitches
for Holmes.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Are you trying to told me that if the Rockies
adopted the torpedo bats that you wouldn't be like all
in on thatcazine it'd be like Beer League softball every
single day out here.

Speaker 4 (17:25):
Well, the issue with the Rockies they strike out too much,
and so the torpedo bats is going to help them
in that aspect. But you got to be able to
hit the ball and and and and put some real
barrel to the bats.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
To it, one thing at a time, Shelby, let's just
let's let's let's take our baby steps as we can go.
All right, get We're live right outside Corus Field here
at twentieth and Blake. Come on down, say hi to us.
We have a pair of Rockies tickets to give away.
You gotta say hi to our guy Anthony Rod who's
standing right in front of the tent, say hi to
him within those pair of Rockies tickets. We'll be here

(17:53):
until one thirty when we come back, though, see you.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Pro Day happening right now in Boulder.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
We're gonna check in with our guys, Benjamin alright, Nick
Ferguson coming up next right here.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Okay, Well.

Speaker 1 (18:07):
Feel on twentieth in Blake, come on down and say
hi to us. Dave Logan, Ryan Umbras, Shelby Harris, and
of course our coverage today Opening Day presented by Pello
Windows and Doors of Denver and Northern Colorado Pella dot com.
They're doing a really cool raffle over here, so reason
to come on down here. One hundred dollars gift card
to a Rocky store. That's a great, great prize. So

(18:28):
come on down, say hi to them, and you.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Know, maybe me see if you're interested in some windows and.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
The doors, I mean, some good stuff. Shelby Harris out here.
A little bit cooler temperatures than you were used to
earlier this week, I imagine as the snow is starting
to fall down here downtown.

Speaker 2 (18:43):
But you played baseball in this you you.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Can play baseball anyway there as long as it's not
super well, it's not bad.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
It's not that bad. He sweats.

Speaker 3 (18:55):
No, I've got a cold.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
Oh yeah, that bad is.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
Got a head cold.

Speaker 1 (19:00):
Okay, we're seconds away from getting out the blanket and yeah,
just swaddling you.

Speaker 3 (19:07):
No, that's not that bad.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Okay.

Speaker 4 (19:10):
What I will say about this weather though, is like
if it wasn't Opening day, I think everyone or other,
you know, everyone else will be miserable. It's opening day,
So you know, Colorado, you know, Denver's coming back alive,
That's right, I seeing Denver's. You know, they don't want
to say it, but they're a baseball city. When the
Rockies are doing good, and you know just what you know,
with a course field being in the middle of downtown,

(19:31):
it kind of just makes downtown come alive. You know,
you get this energy around that like you haven't seen
all year. And I think that's the benefit of having
a downtown stadium. I agree, it's just because you know,
it just brings the city alive.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
Yep, completely agree. We're still gonna wear a pair of
tickets to the Rockies.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
If you don't have a pair of tickets, come on down,
say hi to us, and uh, we'll give us first
people come up. I mean a lot of people that
are wandering around down here already have tickets.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
But if you don't, what.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
Time is uh what time is Dick Mortford coming? Do
we know?

Speaker 2 (19:59):
You know I don't have I don't have that time. Okay, yeah,
I don't have that time.

Speaker 1 (20:03):
But and then speaking of by the way, we said
we were going to talk to Ben and Nick out there,
so you pro day they're taking an interview right now,
so we'll check in with them here.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
Just a little bit. We gotta do a bit of
an argue about the torpedo bats.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
Yes, the Rocky.

Speaker 2 (20:15):
By the way, Bud Black.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
Said to the media earlier today that a couple of
players will use the torpedo bats eventually, they haven't sort of,
they're they're kind of working.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
Through all that. I am pro torpedo bats, big fan.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
I imagine you as a Yankees fan or a pretty
big fan after scenes of the returns.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
No, I listen. I'm I'm pro anything that is legal
that gives the hitter any sort of advantage whatsoever, because
I think I think the single you know what, I'll
ask Shelby to me, hitting a baseball at the major

(20:53):
league level maybe the single hardest thing to do in
professional sports wi FI.

Speaker 4 (21:01):
Probably the toughest, most difficult thing that you could do
as an athlete is trying to hit a baseball. Just
think about you're throwing this little ball one hundred miles
an hour, and you and and that's the thing, and
make it both in the fact, the fastball and the
slider until about fifty feet look exactly the same, and
then and then that's the thing. They just drop, you know,

(21:22):
And that's the beauty of it. Though with all these
different picture. You gotta cutter cuts in. You know, you
have all these other pictures that it all looks the same,
and then out of know where, they all just start
spraying in a whole different direction. And that's what makes
it so difficult. Especially look at a guy like Schemes
who throws heat, you know, throws heat and then also
has great control of his off speed pitches and is

(21:43):
able to throw them at any count. You know, three
to two, so you know three zero, it's not just
gonna be a fastball. So when you when the pitchers
have this much of an advantage, you've got to give
the hitters some type of some type of let them
use torpedo.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
That's right, Well, why are you against it?

Speaker 3 (22:00):
I'm not against it.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
I'm just thinking it's something whereas you know, maybe roll
it out for everybody, because I'm not a believer of
maybe switching a back mid season. Maybe go and that's
maybe something you should have practiced during the spring. But
now it just kind of came out of nowhere. I
don't know necessarily if every baseball player it came out
of nowhere, but for us as the average fan, it

(22:22):
kind of came out of nowhere. Once we started Yankees
smacking smacking balls four one hundred and fifty feet. I
had heard about it either before that game. Yeah, and
That's what I'm saying. So nobody really knew about it,
and then it starts happening. And then now we find
out about the torpedo bat, and so now we're we
know what's the question is, Well, shouldn't it be available

(22:42):
to everybody? And so now you're seeing teams ordering them
for certain players.

Speaker 2 (22:46):
Well, okay, are you a golfer?

Speaker 4 (22:50):
Yes, okay, well, okay, okay, hold onld on, I'm kind
of a golfer.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
Let me not just say yes.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
I tell you what we actually have.

Speaker 1 (22:57):
Benjamin Albright here, I'm gonna come back to this because
I think I got you on this one on this argument.
But benjaminal Bright live from Boulder. I see who his
pro day is joining.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
Us high Ben.

Speaker 7 (23:06):
Hey, how's it going?

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Got It's going great?

Speaker 1 (23:09):
Man? Uh, how's it going out there? You guys are indoors?
I imagine that's pretty nice.

Speaker 6 (23:15):
Yeah, we're indoors.

Speaker 8 (23:16):
It's a little bit warm. Storry was a little like
getting there. I was I was talking to some people
Shelby maybe familiar.

Speaker 7 (23:21):
With Jimmy Haslam and Andrew Berry trying.

Speaker 2 (23:23):
To get him to double his salary.

Speaker 7 (23:24):
Uh, just so you know, if you do get.

Speaker 8 (23:26):
That bump Shelby the agency I believe is three percent,
you can just put it.

Speaker 3 (23:29):
In a check. Well, my agent, so.

Speaker 2 (23:35):
Well one dollar bob.

Speaker 7 (23:37):
I Uh yeah, if you've been it's pretty fun out here.

Speaker 8 (23:40):
Calling it the color our showcase, not really calling it
a pro day even though it is.

Speaker 7 (23:44):
But this is this is pretty slick.

Speaker 8 (23:45):
It's more of a production than it is like like
your typical pro day, and they've got a lot of
uh you know, a lot of media friendly type stuff
going on.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
It's been a pretty.

Speaker 6 (23:53):
Fun day so far.

Speaker 7 (23:54):
We'll say.

Speaker 8 (23:54):
The big story here is probably Will Sheppard, who has
timed really well and jumped out of the gym doing
the vertical earlier turned some heads.

Speaker 7 (24:02):
So there's there was a lot of scouts kind of
crowding around him.

Speaker 8 (24:04):
I wanting to get some someone on one time with him.

Speaker 3 (24:08):
So uh bitchamit? How How when does Shadur work? Has
he already worked? And if so, how did he look? Well?

Speaker 8 (24:18):
He has not worked yet. We're all waiting on that
throwing session to start here directly Travis Hunter did not
work out today, but he's going.

Speaker 7 (24:24):
To run routes for him, so that's gonna be a
big plus.

Speaker 8 (24:27):
They're getting warmed up right now. They've got a whole
like entrance thing where his music's gonna play. All that
stuff's gonna happen here shortly, so everybody's sitting here in
anticipation waiting for that throwing session.

Speaker 4 (24:38):
Well, we talked, well then you talked about Will Shepherd
and just you know how he has, you know, kind
of set himself apart, you know, because he's one of
the only ones really working out, you know what what
has you know, his film? Does this film you think
really actually live up to the numbers that he's putting
up today.

Speaker 8 (24:57):
Oh, I mean, I don't think it's not.

Speaker 7 (24:59):
I think he got lost the.

Speaker 8 (25:00):
Shuffle of a pretty deep receiving corps at times. And
you know, maybe you know, the attention is going to
be on the Travis Hunters of the world, But I
think you can cart himself out a role in the
NFL pro.

Speaker 2 (25:09):
I'm more of a you know, a red.

Speaker 6 (25:11):
Zone for at a jump ball guy.

Speaker 8 (25:13):
But you know, I don't think that he's uh, I
don't think that he's a guy that's like undraftable or
anything by that stretch. I just think he's a guy
that kind of got lost in the wash of a
of a great receiving corps and and and they're headlined
by a Travis Hunter, and you know, it tends to
take them the attention away from you. And you know,
you got you got Torn here, who improved his forty times.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
You know, he got four to.

Speaker 7 (25:32):
Four on most most watch. He's got a four three
five on.

Speaker 6 (25:35):
One Scouts watch.

Speaker 7 (25:36):
So and you've got Western.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
You just had a lot of receivers here that.

Speaker 8 (25:39):
You got to compete with. And uh, you know, I
think that's part of it.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
Benjamin Albright joining us from the Carro showcase there in Boulder,
as Shore Sanders getting ready to throw to Travis Hunter,
I says, we understand it all. Thirty two teams pretty
well represented out there today. I mean, what, what's sort
of the buzz on on where you think should do
might end up going?

Speaker 2 (26:01):
Or at least do you think he's.

Speaker 1 (26:02):
Still kind of in the conversation for top ten or
do you believe some of the reports out there that
he might slip a little bit.

Speaker 8 (26:09):
Yeah, I mean, you know, I always take that term
the stock falling, especially today when you look at the markets.
But you know, it's one of those things where you know,
the consensus seems to be that the Giants sort of
have this plan that they want to take Travis Hunter
at three and then come back and get Shador Sanders
a little bit later, and that they've got.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
A huge contingent.

Speaker 7 (26:27):
I hear everybody for the New York Giants organizations in
the building today and that's that's kind of their thing.

Speaker 8 (26:33):
So that creates an interesting scenario. How far do you
think Shador Sanders falls? And you know, if their projections
that you know sort of been around hold true, you know,
they it might be a trade candidate with the Devil
Broncos at twenty. If the Broncos don't have a player
there at twenty, Giants could potentially, you know, maybe move
into that spot and the head of the Steelers who
are looking for a quarterback and try to reunite Shadora

(26:55):
and Travis at their organization up there in New York.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
Would mean should that scenario play out, that you would
be yet another steak dinner down.

Speaker 7 (27:07):
What I which which dinner would this be?

Speaker 3 (27:11):
Well, because somebody's sitting here. Uh disputed that the Giants
would be taking Shador Sanders with third pick. I've never
thought the Giants were going to use that pick, uh.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
After they signed Russell.

Speaker 3 (27:26):
I thought that would that would basically take them out
of the quarterback market with that third pick.

Speaker 8 (27:36):
With the copy of the third pick, I would say that,
I would say, you're probably correct. I still think they
could tray back into the.

Speaker 7 (27:41):
First and take a quarterback.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
I still think it could be.

Speaker 6 (27:45):
You know, and obviously the.

Speaker 3 (27:50):
Medium, medium, well and a grotten on the potatoes.

Speaker 2 (27:54):
That's a good choice. That's a very good choice.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
Medium. Well.

Speaker 4 (27:59):
Yeah, thank you, thank you, please, thank you, thank you.
Been one more question though, but other than I Will Shepherd,
who do you think how does this color out of bunch?
It's really kind of set themselves up where they are
moving up some draft boards. I'm not necessarily talking about
first round, but who is someone who's setting themselves up to,
you know, carve out a nice NFL career now that

(28:20):
they're kind of moving themselves up.

Speaker 8 (28:22):
I think Jimmy Horn would be the other guy.

Speaker 7 (28:25):
Western's forty time wasn't what he wanted. Western ran in
the four fives and that wasn't.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
Where he wanted to be. Horn.

Speaker 8 (28:30):
You know, depending on which scout watch you were looking at,
ran anywhere from four three six to four to four flat.
And you know that's that's superceding time. So you know
he could be a guy that could be moving up
a little bit in mid day three range.

Speaker 6 (28:42):
You know, interestingly, they got a kid from UNC.

Speaker 8 (28:44):
Here king who's who's working out along with these guys.
He's got a pretty good day working out and running.
You might have got himself from run just by virtue
of being here at the coloradto Pro Day. Even though
he was a UNC kid, he worked out pretty well.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
This sis very cool. Well, Ben, we appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (28:58):
Looking forward to hearing some of your coverage tonight during
Broncos Country tonight. I know your tape of some segments
down there. Thanks Bud, I appreciate it. Guy, Ben right,
Benjamin Albright live from Boulder as a CEUs having their
Pro Day, slash showcase, whatever you want to call it.
Looking forward to a lot of national coverage on Travis
Hunter and Shor Sanders.

Speaker 2 (29:18):
We'll come back and talk a little more about that
coming up next.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
We are live here from outside Course Field the twentieth
and Blake, Dave Logan, Shelby, Harris, Ryan Edwards.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
Okay away our Rockies Radio network.

Speaker 1 (29:33):
He was on earlier with Mandy and Ross and that
a really fun broadcast, really good show for those guys.
But we're talking about walk up songs, and he said
not Zepher would kiss.

Speaker 3 (29:41):
Wow, okay, good way to go, Jess. Mine would be,
oh boy, you know yours right at the.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
Top of your head, off the top of my head. Well,
that's what the hell you wanted for, I'll say I
would say either. I would have to go maybe Luthor
with Kinnic Lamar and I'm like you, he canna walk up?
Why Luthor? No? Because you know why? Because why? Because

(30:11):
actually it's one of my daughter's friends like walk them songs.
And I realized, So take her to a birthday party.

Speaker 2 (30:18):
You're talking about getting up and you're.

Speaker 4 (30:22):
About getting a little loosen to hips, you know that
episode but get you going?

Speaker 3 (30:26):
That is yeah, I get you going? Okay, all right,
get the people.

Speaker 2 (30:32):
All right, Dave off the top of your head.

Speaker 6 (30:34):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
I would man, I would go old school cash no, no, no, no, no,
he can he can hear. I would say, gosh, I'm
trying to remember the name of the song. Keep talking, Okay, keep.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
I'd love to do something cool like a DC like back,
but I probably wouldn't do something of like Dave Matthews
or something like that would be like a groan.

Speaker 2 (31:06):
Yeah right, yeah, I mean that's me.

Speaker 1 (31:08):
I'm just saying like i'd love to say, yeah, man,
I got the perfect song picked out, and I really wouldn't.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
I'd probably pixeling that just to be happy Jack.

Speaker 3 (31:16):
I have this fantastic voyage stuck him.

Speaker 1 (31:20):
Oh yeah, that's not not the Coolio version. Side coolier
version wouldn't ptty cool though.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
Lord, you know Gangs is paradised?

Speaker 2 (31:31):
Hey, yeah, it.

Speaker 4 (31:37):
Switched up. But you know, if you ever played on
the first month, there you.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
Go like, is that Bone Thugs is the head?

Speaker 1 (31:47):
Dave Logan walking out to Bone Thugs in harmony.

Speaker 4 (31:50):
Hey, I'm not gonna put the past though. Ohio, you
already know.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
You already know.

Speaker 1 (31:56):
We'll stick back in and see you go to the
neck dour with Ferguson walking at the pregame at one
thirty Day, Logan Hbbe Harris, Ryan Versus live from twentieth
and Blake for opening Day for the Cora rockies people
want to read by saying I we appreciate you guys
listening away and saying I.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
So comp things to see you. I like you talking
about some of the other players.

Speaker 1 (32:18):
What do you think, Dave, are some of the other
players beside Street or Sayer and Travis, who are obviously.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
The Marquis guys.

Speaker 1 (32:24):
Why thirty two teams are represented from the NFL now
in Boulder. But I don't talk about the Jonte Western
talked about Shepherd, Jimmy Horn. Those guys are kind of impressive.
Do you think any of those guys get drafted?

Speaker 3 (32:36):
My second song would be Jamaican Funk making fun.

Speaker 1 (32:42):
I don't know that one, really, I don't know what
Jamaicing funk Tom Brown, Okay, I don't know who.

Speaker 2 (32:46):
That is either.

Speaker 3 (32:47):
Hey, as Zach, just look look in the extensive repertoire.

Speaker 2 (32:53):
Of Iheartime go back, far back.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
Yeah, oh yeah?

Speaker 2 (32:57):
Is it like real to reel? Or is that?

Speaker 3 (32:59):
Do you want to? Is my one? What you said?
I didn't quite hear you A track A track? No,
he listened. It never hurts to, like, you know, embrace
a different genre horizons if you will. You're stuck on
Dave Matthews. You probably should. You should embrace all genre.

Speaker 1 (33:18):
Right, I mean, listen, if I'm not listening to KOA
on the completely Free, totally Awesome my Heart radio app,
I'm certainly going to be tuning into Dave Matters the
shieldless promo. I can't help do we know exactly what
time Dick montforty is coming by?

Speaker 2 (33:33):
Again, don't have the time on that.

Speaker 3 (33:34):
Okay, don't have a time on that.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
But once again, Western Horn Shepherd, which one of those
guys you think has a chance to get draft.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
You know Horn, I think Horn because of his speed.
I think, I mean the league. When you talk about
wide receivers, I mean that's you got to have the
requisite speed necessary to get open. He's faster than that.
So yeah, he He hasn't been the most consistent ball
catcher in the games that I've seen him, but he's

(34:04):
certainly from a speed standpoint, would get the attention.

Speaker 4 (34:07):
And that's the tough part, you know, as a receiver,
that's kind of the most important part, is catching the ball.
And I've always heard it before people say, you know,
don't draft receivers I can't catch you know, that makes sense.
I mean, but the one thing that you know, like
Day said, you can't teach speed, and you know you
can get on a judge machine. They can fortually go
catch a thousand balls a day, but you can't teach

(34:28):
that speed. So I think Jimmy Horn just in general,
just what he brings and that speed is teams will
overdraft for speed.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
But see, here's here's the one thing. Shelby's absolutely right.
You can get on a judge machine, you can work
catch a thousand balls a day. But I can't begin
to tell you how different it is when you're sitting
there catching on the judge machine as opposed to running
like a twelve yard basic route inside and having that
thing come out. Was you look back, you know through

(35:01):
the offensive defensive lineman, here comes the ball, and you
know there's a safety on his way to greet you.
So so I think you can improve your ability to catch.
I certainly think you can improve that, but I don't
know if you could ever. I mean, it's one of
the reasons that Olympic sprinters historically have not been able

(35:24):
to transition into being a wide receiver in the NFL.
They certainly they certainly can run well. We got Marquis
a good one former teammate, Rinaldo Nea Maia had a
little bit of success in the league. Bob Hayes was
an Olympic sprinter, but a lot of success to the Cowboys.
But but by and large, a lot of those fast

(35:45):
guys they don't want that smoke.

Speaker 1 (35:48):
Well.

Speaker 4 (35:48):
Also, track speed and football speed are two different things.
You got to do throwing on ten pounds of gear
and tell him us to run and not just run straight.
We need your running and cut and then I'll also
be able to accelerate again and then go up finding
the ball, catch it and don't drop it so.

Speaker 3 (36:05):
It didn't take a hit. Last time, I look at
the end of the of the sprint, the one hundred
meters sprint, there's nobody trying to take their head off.
You don't have Fred Warner over there.

Speaker 1 (36:14):
Now take you out, fair points, fair points again. We're
live here at twentieth Inn Blake for Opening Day. Very
excited to be here with you. We got about a
half hour to go on the other side of this
break again. We're gonna check back in down and see you.
We're gonna continue to talk about the Rockies and get
you ready for Rockies and Athletics that's coming up next
on Kiawa.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
Welcome back.

Speaker 1 (36:37):
We are live here from outside Course Field twentieth in Blake,
Dave Logan, Ryan Edwards, Shelby Harris. You got about thirty
minutes more with you until we hand things off to
Jack Horny and the way.

Speaker 3 (36:48):
I know we got to go. And sorry to interrupt you.
Barks would be man walk up, okay, group, okay, barks
and holy ghosts.

Speaker 2 (36:54):
I've heard barkas.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
Listen to Holy ghosts.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
That would get you ready to tour a ninety four
mile an hour fastball into left center field and layout. Well, no,
it'll be a long single for you. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
I got one hit in little league, and I know
that the shock I got one hit in the little
league in your lifetime, in my lifetime, I was not.
I was criticism. There's I got one hit, and I.

Speaker 3 (37:30):
Was so almost now you're you're you're not so proud
of myself telling the truth.

Speaker 2 (37:35):
No, I am telling the truth.

Speaker 3 (37:36):
We got to get a beer league, we aer league softball,
and we got it. We got it, Mirror, you got one.
It's not your career.

Speaker 6 (37:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
When I was a little league and and and but
do you remember how many.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
Years when you're a little league.

Speaker 1 (37:49):
That's the question five six six times zeros our Ko
commis Y'll text on if you want to.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Send us a text.

Speaker 1 (37:54):
And I don't believe that, but I also, but I
also one of the reasons I ended up quitting and
I didn't I didn't play for very long is because
I took a bad hot up and broken my tooth out,
like my front tooth.

Speaker 2 (38:02):
It's face.

Speaker 4 (38:03):
Well usually you know that's what the glove is for.

Speaker 1 (38:05):
Thank you, Shelby, Thanks man.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
One hit, though, I it's almost impossible.

Speaker 2 (38:13):
It's just not the kids this, you know what. It
was one of those deals where like.

Speaker 3 (38:19):
You're an eight year old facing minor league pictures, right,
the kids throwing are eight also right, you got how
freeling up there over here striking them out, striking out
for Ryan Edwards. Okay, here, contact make contacts.

Speaker 2 (38:33):
No, I make contacts a lot. Just I only got
one hit, so I would.

Speaker 1 (38:41):
Not be the example of a person as I'm sitting here.
As I'm sitting here, I'm trying to wield the Rockies
into better offense.

Speaker 3 (38:48):
Listen, we are free, a free will, and we could
believe what we want to. I choose not to believe
that it's okay, fine, just for your benefit, I choose
not to believe that able to.

Speaker 1 (39:00):
You've seen me throw a baseball, so it really shouldn't
be that big of a surprise.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
Well, well, hitting and throwing, you know, for me it was.

Speaker 1 (39:08):
It was all in the same conversation as far as
my ability. But again, I'm not ashamed of that because
it was a pretty good golfer.

Speaker 3 (39:14):
Well you should be.

Speaker 4 (39:16):
I wouldn't tell nobody else that.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
Anyways.

Speaker 1 (39:21):
I love baseball. I've I've watched baseball my entire life.
But yeah, no, I'm not not all that good.

Speaker 3 (39:27):
Listen, I've never played the guitar. You've played the guitar,
You've stood up in front of people, You've entertained people,
So you've got that. I couldn't do it. Can you? Are?
You played?

Speaker 4 (39:37):
I actually, uh played the cello all the way until
like junior in high school in front of people. Yeah,
we had orchestra concerts all that.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
So nice, my youngest play cello.

Speaker 4 (39:46):
Yeah, I like it because it would be lazy. You
good to sit down, That is why I chose to.
So you get to sit down, and so you practiced,
you get to sit down. So this is like it's
like the lazy man. You know, don't you sit down
for most musical instruments? Well, when you practice, it's like

(40:07):
like what sometimes you stand up to?

Speaker 3 (40:09):
Well?

Speaker 4 (40:09):
Sometimes how you stand if you're doing the violin revealed
or and then on.

Speaker 3 (40:12):
Hoday, okay, let's head back the base and the base okay,
head back.

Speaker 1 (40:17):
Out to see you and checking with Nick Ferguson. Vinjamin,
all right, Nick Ferguson, out there and see you for
the pro day.

Speaker 2 (40:23):
Nick, good to hear from you, my friend. How are
you like?

Speaker 6 (40:26):
I'm doing well? Man, I'm like, hey, I'm being pulled
away from the workouts the doors out here throwing some dimes.

Speaker 3 (40:34):
So so now we're assuming Nick that you can see
him describe sort of how he looks and what you see.

Speaker 6 (40:42):
Well from what I've seen, I mean obviously you know,
great footwork.

Speaker 7 (40:46):
And he's a competitor and you can travel because there
was a couple.

Speaker 6 (40:49):
Of drop passes and you know he was doing well.

Speaker 7 (40:52):
As far as some completions and so till then.

Speaker 6 (40:55):
But this guy has everything that you want and you
just look at you know, all the guys are standing around,
even though the Broncos already have their quarterback, Sean Payon
was standing at least through feet away from me, kind
of down then and just checking out the footwork of
Shador so a guy could throw the ball. It is
a great place to be. There's so many people here

(41:17):
from NFL, you know, network h then the GM to here.

Speaker 7 (41:22):
Everyone came to see what you do it to do,
but most most importantly watching Travis.

Speaker 6 (41:27):
Hunter go out there and do this thing as well.

Speaker 4 (41:31):
Hey, Nick, So my question, I guess is how is
everybody handling? Because it's not it's not necessarily a normal
pro day. This is more of a production. This is
more of a show. You know, everyone knows all the
eyes are really or shoulder and Travis and Travis really
isn't doing much or Sugar wasn't really doing much. But
so how would you say they are handling all this

(41:53):
spotlight and and what do you see really that can
really set them apart?

Speaker 6 (42:00):
Well, I mean, I mean you're right, Shador and Travis
didn't really participate in any of the earlier drills, the
vertical jumps, the bench press and all those things. But
for me, this was an opportunity for other guys to
show what they can do. And you had Leamonte Bentley
was very impressive with his workout and his vertical jump.
But for me, the two guys are making the most

(42:21):
out of.

Speaker 7 (42:22):
I don't want to call it a spectacle for.

Speaker 6 (42:23):
An opportunity and the showcase is Jimmy Horn Junior and
Will Sheppard Will Sheppard Man. But you talk about and
David will appreciate this his vertical jump and the ability
to track the ball and attack the ball in the
air from a fifty to fifty standpoint. I was telling Ben.

Speaker 7 (42:39):
When he was standing next to me, I said, this
is the guy I would.

Speaker 6 (42:42):
Love to see in the Broncos uniform. Could you just
imagine him inside the red zone or on the DeVault
from both Nicks and Davis on the call, I mean,
he would be a hell of an asset for the Broncos.
But everyone is handling this atmosphere well because keep this
in mind, they've been exposing this for two season. This
is nothing new to them. It's something new to everyone

(43:03):
else who's here to enjoy the showcase. But there's nothing
new to them, and so much so there was a
surprise I didn't even expect. I saw my former teammate
Champ Bailey here.

Speaker 7 (43:14):
And I asked the mother, like, what are you doing here?
You said, well, you know.

Speaker 6 (43:17):
I had a seeking engagement here Denver call coach.

Speaker 7 (43:20):
Prim didn't even know that the Pro day was even taking.

Speaker 6 (43:22):
Place, and Prim told.

Speaker 7 (43:24):
Him to definitely show up.

Speaker 6 (43:25):
And I know where the players seeing a guy of
that caliber, Hall of.

Speaker 7 (43:29):
Fame corner like Champ Bailey, it only.

Speaker 6 (43:31):
In justified things more on wanted guys to go out
there and compete even more.

Speaker 1 (43:36):
No doubt Nick Ferguson joining us here from see you
my my last question here. I really appreciate the time.
I just wanted to ask you, as a former defensive
back watching Travis Hunter, would you be would you believe
he would be a better receiver wide receiver because I'm
watching some of these routes he's running right now, some
of the videos that are being tweeted out, it's incredible.
Or do you think that he's going to be a
stronger corner back in the NFL?

Speaker 6 (44:00):
You know why? He was interesting thing about that one
man he can do.

Speaker 7 (44:03):
Both and it all depends on you know, the team
and that.

Speaker 6 (44:05):
They're going to allow him to do both. But obviously
I would say, you know, start off being a corner
first and then working yourself into the offensive side with
small packages. But he's at everything that you need. He
didn't drop one single pass and there was a moment
where there was an ooze and ohs when he kind
of ran this return route, and Dave know exactly what

(44:27):
I'm talking about.

Speaker 7 (44:28):
Even though there's no one defending him, he set.

Speaker 6 (44:30):
It up perfectly. He was able to get in and
out of his break, showing short air of the quickness,
and once again he's catching the ball with no gloves.
And I know that themes go, well, that's not that's
a well, you know somebody he doesn't have on gloves.
But it's a big thing because a lot of guys
have a lot of confidence in their hands only when
they're wearing gloves. But with him not wearing gloves, you

(44:50):
can see him attacking the ball, catching the ball away
from his body, not being a body catcher, and just
showing this whole gambit of the skill set that he had.

Speaker 3 (45:00):
Nick ferguson our guest. He is in Boulder for the
University of Colorado Pro Day. Nick final question for me.
You mentioned how many NFL types were there, and of
course Champagne, I'm gonna have a chance to see Champ
tonight at that function. But I want to ask you,
have you seen Brian Daball there? There was a report

(45:22):
earlier this morning that he was not going to be
in attendance, Then the report came in that they thought
he was going to be in Boulder. Have you seen
the head coach of the Giants there today?

Speaker 7 (45:35):
Well, no, I have not seen him.

Speaker 6 (45:36):
I've seen wide receiver coach might grow here, but I'll
look around and see if I see him working around.
But there's a lot of who's who of the NFL
who are here in even gms and head coaches who
are not even in the market for a quarterback.

Speaker 7 (45:54):
But that tells you how special this showcase is.

Speaker 6 (45:57):
And I'll see this. I was here last year at
the Buffs Pro Day. It wasn't this big of a show.
It wasn't that many shouts, It wasn't.

Speaker 7 (46:05):
Even that many people who were here.

Speaker 6 (46:07):
But that tells you and speaks volumes to what Coach
Prime is actually doing and how he's uplifting his program.
And I'm just gonna call it like I've always told it.
It's just a Coach Prime effect. And I can't wait
to see what twenty twenty six looks like.

Speaker 4 (46:23):
Hey, Nick, last question for me, just obviously we're seeing Travis,
you know, play on both sides of the ball, and
he's doing his drill as a receiver today. But what
do you believe will be his out of all you know,
obviously playing receiver and playing dB, where do you think
he would make his you know, biggest splash year one?

(46:44):
Do you think he'll be a receiver or do you
think he'll be a better player year one? I'm not
talking you know, just in general. Year one, you think
it'll be a receiver? Do you think it'd be a dB?

Speaker 6 (46:54):
You know what, I think he would be a dB
his first year.

Speaker 7 (46:57):
But I think he still will make a profound.

Speaker 6 (47:00):
Impact as a wide receiver. Once again, I mean, any
team that takes him, you're not going to put him
in like forty percent of the offensive players. You're gonna
have built in week to week packages to feature him
in the offense and just trying to continue to help
him grow and develop from the aspect of the game.
But when it comes to route running, when he comes
to getting in and out of breaks, being great against

(47:23):
man coverage, understanding when you're running the route against zone covers.
The kids has had everything.

Speaker 7 (47:28):
I mean, he's gifted and he's blessed.

Speaker 6 (47:31):
And for me, I've been around two players who possessed
that same type of ability.

Speaker 3 (47:36):
Champ Bailey is.

Speaker 6 (47:36):
One of those guys in P two. So when you
are especially unique player like Travis is, you're gonna find
way to get him the ball. But I'm sure no
matter what team that drafts him, there's gonna be a play,
a slip screens, a deep ball that he's going.

Speaker 7 (47:49):
To score his first touchdown. He's gonna make people go,
you know what, maybe they should play.

Speaker 6 (47:53):
Him on offense a little more, but he's going to
break in.

Speaker 1 (47:57):
In the league as a dB first, Nick, really appreciate
the time. Looking forward to hearing you and Ben tonight
with your breakdown, your full breakdown of the Pro Day.

Speaker 2 (48:05):
Appreciate it, man, Thank you God.

Speaker 7 (48:08):
It'd be good.

Speaker 1 (48:10):
All right, Nick Ferguson, Benjamin all Bright, They're gonna have
Broncos Country tonight come up this evening at six o'clock
with a breakdown of all that. I again last on
on that before we tie things off here with the Rockies. Yeah,
I mean, I think year one that's a good conversation
to have you think over the scope of his career.
Maybe he gets a chance to do more than one thing,
but I think in year one is probably a dB.

Speaker 4 (48:30):
Yeah, you know, year one. You know, you don't want
to put too much on our young players to play.
And I get it that he's played both both sides
of the ball in college, but the NFL is a
different animal, and especially since an NFL, they worry about
your health a lot more because you're an investment. You know,
taps Hunter is going to be a first round pick.
He's going to be we can for sure say a

(48:51):
top ten pick. You know where he goes in that.
You know that's a question. You know that's going to
get answered as soon. But I think that the idea is,
so you want him to get comfortable with one thing
first and then start slowly integrating him into the second
part of the you know, up, you know whatever. If
he's playing receiver, also playing DV but it's just Travistna.

(49:14):
You want him to be that playmaker, that that star
that you know he can be on one side of
the ball first, before you try to just go full.

Speaker 3 (49:21):
On play be playing the game. I think it depends
on the team that drafts him, whether they view him
as a special corner or a special wide receiver. It
is harder to find special corners than it is to
find special wide receivers. And that's a former wide receiver

(49:45):
you're saying that. So to me, he's a corner year one.
If he stay's healthy, he's a corner year ten. You
create a package for him on offense because he's got
he's got that kind of ability. But you know, is
is Travis Hunter right now? A better athlete to Champ

(50:05):
Bailey was coming out of Georgia. I don't know. I
don't know, and Champ went in the Hall of Fame
as a defensive back. Now he had ear ladies career,
he had some packages, and Champ had hands good enough
I think to play wide receiver, but he didn't play

(50:25):
because his value was so high on defense. And so
I think this will be interesting with Travis. I think
it'll be interesting to see not only where he goes,
but what the plan is early and then once they
determined like oh you're you're that guy. I don't know
how much he's going to play both ways.

Speaker 4 (50:44):
I just think that the minute that he gets injured,
that e. Spearmen's going to be experiment's gonna.

Speaker 2 (50:52):
Be over because him getting tackled versus him tackling.

Speaker 4 (50:55):
Yeah, it's it's it's two different impressions from your body.
But he gets injured.

Speaker 3 (50:59):
The coach looks at the coordinator on the side of
the ball he got injured and said, hey, man, why
are we playing him so much? Wait, coach, didn't you
want me to try to get you know? That's yes,
that's how it'll work. He's absolutely right.

Speaker 1 (51:12):
Well, I think to your point, Dave, before we talk
about the Rockies for a couple of minutes, I think
even asking the question like is he as an athlete
comparable to Hall of Famers, because it honestly kind of
feel like that's a fair thing to talk about a
little bit.

Speaker 3 (51:26):
He's he's an unbelievable athlete. Yes, I mean, just just
watching this kid perform. I mean, certainly from an ability
to play that many snaps at a high level, the
highest level you can play in college football. But when
you find the rare world class talent looks just core. Now,

(51:49):
I think Travison had that ability to be that guy.
I'm just telling the NFL teams that expend that high
of a draft choice and that kind of money. Yeah,
we can talk about coming up with the package and okay,
let us work into this a little bit. But deep
down they're not going to be crazy about playing on
offense if he's that guy for them on defense.

Speaker 4 (52:11):
I want to clarify like saying he's gonna get hurt,
But the issue is that came up the chance of
getting hurt at some point, and so that I'm saying
that is going to happen football and radio. I mean,
it's just too tough businesses. You might get lock jar,
you know what I mean. It's exactly you know, talking
too much. My wife tells me that all the time.

(52:32):
He tells you to talk too much, you know, right
before Ben Jors is like, you know it's not going
to sleep.

Speaker 1 (52:40):
Yeah, well that's what you just share about your bedtime
with if I appreciate.

Speaker 2 (52:46):
That's the story we got.

Speaker 1 (52:49):
The final moment's here with us here at twenty th
Blake Boy, it's been a lot of fun broadcasting as
it always is on opening day, and we're right out
here as we're looking straight at course field, so to
Rockies looking to get back on track. They're one in
five played road games obviously to start things. I think
Tampa Bay and Philly are both good teams. The Athletics
we'll wait and see on that, but I think the

(53:11):
Rockies they got to sort of show up here represented home.

Speaker 2 (53:14):
Dave and I don't know.

Speaker 1 (53:15):
Today, this is a good day despite how cold it is.

Speaker 3 (53:18):
This would be a.

Speaker 2 (53:19):
Great day for the hitting to kind of get going.

Speaker 3 (53:23):
No, I think it would too. I think I mean
that next step to try to avoid one hundred losses,
the simplest way to do it is to become a
better home team. Everybody talks about what's right. If you
can be a five hundred team on the road, well great.
They probably won't be a five hundred or thereabout team
on the road. But when this team has been a

(53:46):
playoff caliber team, when the Rockies have had seasons where
it's like okay, August September and they're right in the thick,
there's six games out of at the National League West,
what have you? They have been a dominant team at home.
They haven't been that the last couple of seasons, so
it would be a nice start to find ways to
win games, of course, film.

Speaker 2 (54:04):
And kind of keep the momentum going with your starting pitching.

Speaker 1 (54:06):
Ryan Feldner's gonna take them mount for the Rockies here
in a little under an hour. And it's one of
those deals like I wouldn't have believed it if you
would have said the Rockies would have the best er
for their starting pitching through the first week of Major
League Baseball. But the fact that you're here means that, hey,
well we thought that the starting pitching could actually find
its footing.

Speaker 2 (54:26):
And it is finding it's footing.

Speaker 1 (54:28):
You just got to keep that momentum going with the
rest of the offense and the bullpen catch up.

Speaker 3 (54:32):
This show and they can compete.

Speaker 4 (54:34):
Showing that you know, they can go up there and
their starters can compete with the best of them. Now,
like we said early the show, it's about everybody else
doing every stepping up and the Rockies can.

Speaker 3 (54:45):
We'll see the long seat to the head. But if the.

Speaker 4 (54:50):
Starting pitching keeps going like this, eventually everybody will catch up.
There's a lot to be excited about. Rocket said, because
obviously starting pitching is a big part. Yes, that's gonna
happens a bit, but the pitching is quite That's that's
your key, that's what's want to hunk. You down for
the whole season. So you have goods. They have the

(55:11):
starting and once the releaders and the hitting starts to
come alive, the wins will start coming into you know.

Speaker 1 (55:17):
And that's the thing also, right, And I don't think
we've talked about it very much with the Rockies even
coming into the season.

Speaker 2 (55:22):
They really do have a very good defense.

Speaker 1 (55:24):
Like I know, that's like off the times of baseball,
the last things you talked about. Those are things you
can build on. Those are things that you can consistently
do every single week. I know that's been a big
focus for Bud Black over the year. Day of having
a good defense. Not gonna get too many bears out
there when you're in the margins of the Rockies just
really you're gonna get sum everycent day. But if you

(55:44):
can minimize mistakes, if you could put the defense again,
that gives you some footing to base on.

Speaker 3 (55:51):
I think even if you're not if you were to
examine this team from sixty four thousand feet and you said, hey,
give me, give me two or three positives that you
see for the Rockies, the first thing that would come
out of your mouth would be defense. Yes, they've been
a good defensive team. McMahon, He's been a goal glover.
Doyle's been a goal glover. Uh Tolio I think I

(56:16):
think as well. So, yeah, I mean that and that
has to continue. They've got they've got to not give
teams extra outs when the ball is hit to you,
make the play of the ball. Be a consistently good
defensive team and that that obviously would be a huge help.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (56:33):
They got to have some jams against the Phillies, a
couple of bases loaded jams. Again, you know, guys are
gonna get on base, You're gonna you're gonna issue some walks,
You're gonna get some some infield hits, those types of things.
And the fact is is you don't want to do
You want it to escalate. You don't want it to
add insult to injury.

Speaker 4 (56:47):
If you will well when you're not hitting very well,
your defense is what's gonna say to you the game close? Yeah,
And I think that's what the Rockies are lying on
right now. Until that's come alive, obviously, you're gonna the
elephant in the room is that Chris Bryan hasn't you know,
lived up this year to what he's supposed to be
doing so. Eventually, though, your thought process is the more

(57:09):
Batsy gets when he actually plays, you know he'll finally
come alive. And so until that point happens, when Tovar
and everyone else kind of comes alive, you gotta keep
yourself in the game. And they have the two pieces
that do it. You know, you're starting pitching and your defense.

Speaker 1 (57:26):
All right, we got about two minutes left here, just
for fun ragging rights, I guess, start of the game.

Speaker 2 (57:32):
Who do you got today, Dave?

Speaker 6 (57:35):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (57:36):
And I said Tolio he's on the injured whist. I
was thinking Tovar for the go glove. You said, start
the game today today. Uh, I'm gonna I'm gonna take
I'm gonna take Ryan McMahon, Dan Ryan McMahon to run

(57:56):
Homer after the sixth.

Speaker 4 (58:02):
Win.

Speaker 2 (58:03):
Wow, you're really specific. I did that? Yes, all right right,
I'll tell you what that Athens.

Speaker 1 (58:11):
Hey, Monday, Monday at three o'clock, we're gonna have you
having some fun with that audio.

Speaker 2 (58:15):
That would be good. How about you, Shelby.

Speaker 4 (58:17):
I'm going to say Tovar will be my star of
the game. They'll hit a home run today. He'll give
you three RBI's and also I would say Rockies will
win four to one today.

Speaker 2 (58:28):
There we go four to one, four to one.

Speaker 4 (58:30):
Bat's going to come alive. They're going to have over
eight hits. I'm calling it. They're going to the bats
will come alive, and you'll give you something to be
excited about. And you know what better team to do
it on than the Sacramento Athletics exactly, or.

Speaker 1 (58:47):
Las Vegas or Las Vegas whatever, whatever the well, well
the hell as you took my top two, so I'll
try to get creative here. I like Britain Doyle. I
think Brittan Doyle is due. He's gonna be leading off
he once again, he continues to be a rock solid
player for them, both offensively and defensively, unless he was
last couple of years. So I like Breton Doyle to
kind of get things going, get this thing, get this.

Speaker 2 (59:08):
Team kind of motivated.

Speaker 1 (59:09):
We talked about and because we heard from Jack Corgan
earlier on with Mandy and Ross, that offense can be contagious,
an offense can be kind of get more offense, and
I think Brenton Doyle gets things going for this team.

Speaker 2 (59:20):
Maybe they can, you know, feel a little bit of
spark there and get them go.

Speaker 1 (59:23):
So I'm not gonna get as specific as you guys,
because you guys are the live line. Just move based
on everything you guys just said. Everybody heard that and said,
oh my gosh.

Speaker 4 (59:30):
N Also, I'm going to call it. I say, Ryan
Thunder is going to give you seven seven seven.

Speaker 2 (59:36):
Stay.

Speaker 4 (59:37):
It's a little bold. I know it's a little bold,
but also they're playing the a's that's right there. They're
not very bold right there. I think this he's putting
it together. His last two starts well, both in quality starts.
I disbelieve that he's finally, you know, after the taking
the line drives to the head. He's really starting to

(59:58):
really be this pitcher that the Rockies need. So I
think with Felder though, is this it's gonna give you
like six to seven? It is, and it's gonna be
you'll give up one run. And I think really that
this will start to be the pitching staff that you.

Speaker 3 (01:00:13):
Expect to be.

Speaker 1 (01:00:13):
All Right, that does it for us. Thank you again
to everybody out here that made it possible. Shannon Scott,
Dave Tepper, our tremendous promotion staff, Anthony Rodd, Zach Seeger's
back in.

Speaker 2 (01:00:23):
The studio where Hampton's offten Jackie Jerry cut him.

Speaker 1 (01:00:25):
Next, it's a Rockies take on the athletics on Kowa
