Speaker 1 (00:00):
Shelby hair is back in Shoodie with us. What's a
grand grand view? Huh grand view Wolves?

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Baby, you realize you know you're sitting across my daughter
goes to grand view text precedence. Oh, that's that's a
fair Absolutely it does. I didn't know this was sure
of the pot, right me? This grand view softball? So
I'm wearing it for a reason. Yeah, fair enough.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
I'm just saying I didn't know if there was some
kind of statement being made, like, hey, Dave a cheery
creek let me.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
No, No, they they've already knows he wants the ass
all the time. What you already know he wants their
ass all the time?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
No, no, no, No, that's not Day saying that is not.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
No, it was definitely Shelby. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Day, a good friend of mine is the head coach there,
and I got I got much respect.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
For him, absolutely stopping him.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
That's enough, Shelby, he already warned enough Shelby.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
What do you know? That's right, that's right, that's right.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
All sorts of us if you gets you over the
next three hours until we walk things up to the
Rockies and the Tigers Nuggets game two tonight, very very
excited about that.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
The NBA playoffs last night were certainly interesting.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
No, I just sometimes listen, man, go ahead, just have fun.
I try to help you, or as we say, I
try to help you. Right, did I did I not?
Did I not tell you?

Speaker 1 (01:32):
What?

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Did I tell you?

Speaker 1 (01:33):
The amount of tweets and texts I got of, Boy,
your wolves look terrible tonight, And I told you on.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
The show, I said, hey, Golden State's going to win
the series. They're going to win tonight. And they did
that with with out Steph for two and a half quarters.
Now I will say this, I think you and your
wolves have a chance to come back, because I don't
I don't know. You know, hamstrings, Shelby knows those things
can be tricky man, especially the way that he plays.

(02:03):
It's a lot, you know when you look at there
was a study of something shown about Steph Curry about
how much he runs in a game one point nine
to nine miles the last game seven against the Rocket,
and that's how.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Far he runs. And so with a hamstring like that,
even though it's a great one, it is a great one,
but I don't see him being able to come back
until at least a game six and that's pushing it.
And if he can even come back this series, what
day is game six? Like, how far out is that
too much? Tomorrow night? I would say probably a week
and a half. Yeah, they said Grade one. He might

(02:37):
be back in a week and a half. It's just
the worries. So it's just worries some based off how
much he runs at that level. With this much at stake,
you got a little special juju.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
You got a little special sauce that you might cook
up and inject in that thing.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
Eleven points in the second quarter, Timberwolves scored eleven.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Anthony Edwards did not have a field goal in the
first half. Yeah, that was tough to watch just as
a basketball fan. See I think, I think this, and
again without Steph different deal, I don't feel as confident.
But Golden State Minnesota is so good on defense. But

(03:19):
Golden State's a nightmare matchup for everybody because they are
constant motion. They pull you away from the basket with
that motion. Because of their ability to knock down three,
then that opens a whole bunch of lanes up driving
driving to the basket. I mean, how many how many

(03:41):
even against the Rockets in Game seven, But last night
Game one against the Wolves. There are plenty of times
when somebody has taking the ball to the basket and
looks like it's an uncontested layup, so it's there. They're
not going to be a I mean, if they can
get out of this series without Steph, I don't know,
but if they do, they're not going to be a
good matchup for anybody in the Western Conference finals, even

(04:03):
if that's the Nuggets. I like the Nuggets chance, but
you know, if they managed to get out of here
and go play in the finals, they're going to be
a real problem for the Celtics or whomever comes.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
Out of the East. Well, well look at the Look
at the how deep they had to go in their
bench and they still kept that lead the whole time.
And I think that's the credit to you know, the
players on the words for staying ready, because obviously we
know in an NBA, you know, a lot of teams
go seven deep.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
I can say this for obvious reasons. Who's the white
dude did they played last night? Thank you for saying it,
because I was thinking it because like this with the curls,
he's got the no, he's got the porn stash.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
The forty year old man out there.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
Just know the curls that's put put. He's a starter,
he's been a starter all year. But the guy they
brought in off the bench, who Post, No, no, no,
Quentin Post didn't play.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
Look last night, Quinton Post is the big This is
a guard. Post played six minutes. Hold on, this guy
played more than Quentin Post.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
Pat Spencer, Yeah Spencer from the famous Spencer fans. Yeah,
tell me everything you know about Pat Spencer and I
will too.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Ready go, Well, he.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Went to Northwestern and I obviously knew that. Yeah that,
as I have a screen. This guy comes in, I'm
like this his first year in the league. Okay, he
gave him some service for minutes. He had a charging foul.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
Yes, but you know I mean that to Shelby's point,
You got guys coming off the bench.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
But I'll tell you what they are.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
They are a bunch of smart, cagey vets that have
been there in big moments. They know how to play.
I don't think they can beat Minnesota if Steph is
not going to play the rest of the series. But
I do think even without Steph, it'll be a competitive series.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
It's gonna be fun to watch, and it was fun
to watch Spencer with his a couple of hook shots
he was over here. Timpted yesterday too, made you bring
back to kream ob Jabbar days, and it was just,
you know, it was just interesting to watch the way
the Warriors transferred responsibility after Steph got hurt, and just
how Buddy Heal just literally stepped up and became just

(06:13):
like Steph curried damn near when he was out there hooping.
So you know, the Warriors are not out of this
at all, and you know, just from the way they play,
it actually hurts the Timberwolves for having Rudy Gobert out there,
and so it should be interesting to see kind of
what happens this next game. But man, if I'm the Wolves,
I'm worried about that performance from Game one just because

(06:35):
of how how bad it was.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
You know, it's an interesting thing, right, There's some parallels
between what the Nuggets and Thunder are doing and what
the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors series is.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
You just talked about it, Dave.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
The experience of Golden State knowing what it takes to
win in the playoffs to win championships.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Golden State or sorry.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Minnesota and Oklahoma City both haven't been there, right. I mean,
they have a young roster, they have a lot of depths.
They they certainly can throw some really unique, interesting things
at you, but they don't know what it's like to
close out series, like at least to close out a series,
to go to a championship and to win.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
So I'm with you. I mean, listen, I still think Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
I like minnesota chances of getting out of the series
even even if Steph was in there.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
But oh, you don't. I really a lot. I got
a double triple down because.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
Where else is there to go out of this thing?

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Because you're lucky Steph's got a Grade one.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
He's probably, as Shelby said, he's probably gonna miss. I mean,
who knows how long. But if Steph were healthy, you
do not like the Timberwolves after what you saw last night,
those chop chicken.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
I'm gonna do with it.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
You know why, because Anthe is gonna forget to how
to play football, sorry basketball.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
For an entire half.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
He's still shot nine for twenty two to twenty three
points led the team. He if he would have shown
up in the first half, he did the second half.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Yeah, they lost less. Seriously, then you don't say no
cond Timberwolves were won by different double digits. You don't
believe it. Okay, explain this to me. How would they
have won by double digits because Aunt would have scored
thirty five or more? What if he didn't struggle so

(08:25):
much in the first half. That's literally the game of
the basketball. How about we give credit to the Warriors.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Steph would still be playing if Steph hadn't pulled his hamstrings,
if he had a whole different half, it.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
Would be different.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
And Rudy Gobert listen, nothing personal, seriously, Yeah, I mean
nothing personal. But he's an irritating joker. You mean seriously,
you want to punch him in the face every single game.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
Mike Conley, Mike Conley wouldn't have gone. Is not going
to go zero for five for zero points every night? Yeah, okay, well,
I mean all right, Hey, here's the thing. Steph won't.
I'm pretty sure we'll not play tomorrow. I okay, all right,
out for a week. So you best not let the

(09:08):
Warriors win Game two without Steph. My goodness, best not
let that happen.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
And ain't one was Jimmy Butler shooting seven for twenty
shot phenomenally. You know what did Red had a great
game and literally when eight fourteen free from seven for.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
Thirty game, it's as bad as I said before the
series started. I think it's a bad matchup for Minnesota
just because of how Golden State plays. I don't think
it's a great matchup. I think that the one team. Listen,
if Golden State gets through this series and Steph, you know,
returns to health, and let's just say Oklahoma City finds

(09:52):
a way to beat the Nuggets. Bad matchup for oak
City just with how they play. It's a bunch of
old heads that know how to play that spreads you out,
and it's you get tired of chasing them around countless
screens and they make you play defense longer than you
want to.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
I mean, we'll see, we'll see.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
I think the Nuggets have the best matchup against Golden
State because of the Joker. The Golden State didn't have
anybody that can play the joker, but only the Nuggets
have the Joker. Nobody else really has that even close
to sort of inside presence.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
Okay, let's play this out. But you said everything you
just said there it's all right to say you're wrong.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
I will not. Well, I would be nervous if I
was the Nuggets and you had to play Golden State
just because, yeah, you do have the joker. Oh, they're
not an easy match up exactly. It's still like I
get your joker. Just like how at the end of
the game Game one, joker just started, you know, backing
down Ax Crusoe, And that's what you're going to see
if they're playing the Caruso is my size?

Speaker 3 (10:55):
Can you imagine me trying to play the joker at
the free throw line by myself and he's six eleven
and two whatever eighty.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
No, it's impossible. No, you're not right. So you got
to think though, if they were to play the Warriors,
it's going to be Kaminga or it has to be
Draymond Green. But Draymond Green is sixty six sixty seven
on a great day, So it is going to be
a you know, the Nuggets and that's why they won
game won. They're a matchup issue.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
No City better not let the Nuggets get this one
to night.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Oh if they win this one tonight or not, I
don't care how long the series goes. If they win
this one to night, the Nuggets are going to win.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
And I'll tell you this, if the game is close
in the fourth quarter, tight tight pooter holes tights for
the thundercause.

Speaker 2 (11:40):
They haven't been there before, and the and the Nuggets have.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
But to play it out the way you just described it,
The Nuggets don't want to see Minnesota. I know that
you disagree with that, but I'm saying the Nuggets no
can get through the series. I do not want to
see Minnesota.

Speaker 3 (11:54):
He has been a tough matchup for the Nuggets. What
I said before the season, uh, before the playoffs started,
you admitted you were scared of Minnesota for Denver, and
I've said, no reason to be scared.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Bring them on.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
I mean, it hadn't gone the Nuggets way, but you
know what, we'll see what happens in a seven game series.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
You said the same thing about Oklahoma City.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
Number one seed, best record in basketball, so deep, so young,
so long, so this, so that, Oh and one.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
That's what I'm saying, Oh one, that's all I'm just
I'm just gonna keep reiterating everything I've been saying is
the Thunder have never been there before, and until they tried.

Speaker 3 (12:34):
To tell her, boy though, I tried to tell Ryan
that before the before the playoffs, and until they proved.

Speaker 2 (12:40):
They find that they got it put together, no one's
gonna believe they're gonna win, just like all the other
teams have been in that situation before. No one thought
the Buffs were gonna win when they won. No one
thought the Nuggers were gonna win until they won it,
you know what I mean. So hey, well we'll see.
But you're crawling in the Timberwolves and okay, see, before
they've even won the big.

Speaker 1 (12:59):
Game, I was acknowledging that moments ago. I was acknowledging
that both of those teams.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
I'm not it's saying I'm wrong because there's still a
lot of.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
Basket Actually, no, I'm wrong about a lot of stuff.
I just say I'm wrong. Well, I haven't been wrong
so far about the Nuggets and the Thunder, and I
haven't haven't been wrong about Golden State and Minnesota.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
So but there's other things.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
But to play this out for the Nuggets if they
can somehow survive this series, and I somehow like.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
This is such a such a crazy, very massive underdog
for a reason. They were and they still are well, no, they.

Speaker 3 (13:37):
That's come down now it's down to it's down to
three to one. It was seven to one.

Speaker 2 (13:40):
There were eleven point underdogs tonight they are they.

Speaker 3 (13:43):
Are in the series. Bet they're three to one underdogs.
They were seven to one underdogs. So you're right, they
were massive. It's whatever the term is less massive.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
Now, Okay, I love the semantics.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
That's massive.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
Point being if they can get past Home, say won't
say somehow they can get past Oklahoma City, and maybe
they're playing a little bit of a banged up Golden
State team. The pass of the finals, all of a
sudden kind of not saying you count anything, Gosh.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
I would rather play the Timberwolves than Golden Are you
for real?

Speaker 2 (14:14):
Absolutely? So that Steph Curry effect is real? His own
Golden State?

Speaker 3 (14:20):
Yeah, they have in the past, and Minnesota has played
really well against the Nuggets. I'm just saying, oh for
six my brothers in a seven game series, would be
to play Minnesota rather than Golden State.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
It's a whole different Golden State team.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Nuggets, You're gonna gonna wind up find a way to
win either way.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
But I'd rather play Minnesota. They will find a way,
said you heard you heard the name either way. Now,
I would be worried if they played, if they played
the Warriors, though, just because Steph. It's really hard to
bet Againsteph Curry. It's because of the you know, everything
that he's able to do on the court. It's it's
really hard, just like it used to be really hard

(14:58):
to say it. Nobody can beat Lebron in the playoff,
like we all knew that pretty much. If you have
to play Lebron in the playoffs, it's gonna it's gonna
be tough. And the same thing with Steph Curry. So
it's gonna it's a situation where man like, it all
is based off of how hot you get to that
and Steph Curry gets during that time, and that's kind

(15:19):
of scary.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
So for tonight, you are one to zero now in
this series, and it's eleven and a half. By the way,
that's the number right now for Oklahoma City.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
It was ten and a half first game. It wasn't
an first game.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
Now.

Speaker 1 (15:31):
The gambling public, although wait, hold on, hold on, hold on, wait,
wait oh no, no, it's says ten and a half now,
just went down seconds ago as we were talking.

Speaker 2 (15:42):
The betting public hurt you people listening.

Speaker 1 (15:45):
And suddenly they're like, you know what, Dave's got a
great point. Iver don't know what they're doing. It's gonna
get to the fourth quarter, and then I guess you're
gonna keep this thing.

Speaker 3 (15:52):
Close enough if it if it gets all I'm saying,
I think Oklahoma City will come out tonight, and I
mean it'll be like the Kitchens think it's thrown at
the Nuggets early. That crowd will be in a frenzy.
Those dudes will be up, and I mean it'll be
the same way Cleveland started the game last night against Indiana.
You look up and it's thirty six to fifteen, and

(16:15):
you're like, what happened?

Speaker 2 (16:16):
Wow, what happened? And then you know what happened.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
Indiana settled in and Cleveland's banged up, and Indiana just
kind of reeled them in, and then Heliburton hits the
three at the buzzer basically.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
And the game's over. So I think if the Nuggets can.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
Just stay alive and stay you know, sort of close,
and then in the fourth quarter, if that thing is
in single digits, I've got to see Oklahoma City not
play tight, because I haven't seen it well, I just love.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
The reaction from all the fans, you know, from when
ag hit that shot yesterday when Halibert hit the shot, Oh,
everybody's just stunned because you know, the Nuggets necessarily weren't winning,
weren't winning at all really during the game. And then
the same with the Pacers. They hadn't been head, they
hadn't been head since the first quarter, since the first quarter,
and you just the look on the fans' faces were

(17:09):
just pure shocked, priceless.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Since I mean, you want to know why, I know
this stat flew across the screen last night. So playoff
record when trailing by seven points with less than a
minute and a half left in a game, So playoff
record trailing by seven points or less with seven one
and a half minutes left in the game. Pacers have
gone to and zero before this series. Every other team

(17:31):
in the last twenty years one of three eighty four.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
They have defied those odds. But this is a perfect example.
Only road teams have won here, have we? And I
don't want to make absolutes on a short amount of
reference here, but are we overrating home playoff or home
court a little bit?

Speaker 2 (17:54):
I know I think it's I think it's hard to
win on the road.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
I just think it. You know, we we've had such
interesting matchups. I mean, the Celtics lose at home because
they missed forty five threes, all right, they had a
twenty point.

Speaker 2 (18:09):
Lead in the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
The Thunder lose at home because I think as the
Nuggets showed resilience and hung in there, they're down thirteen
with like five minutes to go, that thing could have
just as easily gone to twenty one, but it didn't.
Joker hit a three. Now it's ten, and they just
kept hanging around. And then I thought, again we talked

(18:32):
about yesterday, I thought, really down the stretch, I thought
the players on the court not named shay Yogis Alexander
were standing around looking at shay Yogis Alexander and saying, hey, man,
do your thing here, and the Nuggets playing pretty well. Yes,

(18:53):
there were two free throws that were missed. I understand that,
but I thought, Oklahoma City, I won't say it was rudderless,
but just looked like the moment was a little big,
and that can happen. Some really talented team won a
whole bunch of games. You know, number one seed for
a reason. But I thought the Nuggets just hung in there.

(19:13):
They got the best player in the world, and they
played tougher. They were tougher physically, tougher mentally, and it
showed at the end of the game.

Speaker 2 (19:21):
Is this because teams don't care about the regular season?
Is because they don't necessarily care about seeding? Interesting And
you gotta think because you know, players are now getting
sat and more often than not now throughout the regular
season to get ready for the playoffs. So now the
seating kind of gets messed up where these teams aren't
as far apart as they used to be when players
were actually playing all eighty two games a year. So

(19:43):
you got guys where, you know, especially the Nuggets. Nuggets
went through an injury spell right there where they had
a bunch of different people missing, and they went through
that cold stretch and then Malone got fired, and so
they had a chance at one point to be a
higher seas than what they were in, but they didn't.
They ended up so here we are. So I think

(20:03):
the big part of it is because the less you
see people care about the regular season and the less
you see people care about seating in general, for the playoffs,
you have more ability of these upsets happening. And it's
like how we kind of are because these teams aren't
that far apart.

Speaker 1 (20:20):
And I think it's a really good point, and we
often I think during the course of the regular season,
I think they put up perfectly.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
I just can't wait till this thing is over. We're
into the postseason. Yep. Glad.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
I got to imagine not only other fans thought that way,
but even some teams thought, Hey, we're gonna get playoff
team where we know we're going to be the playoffs team.
The seeding will really care about it in the final week, because,
especially in the West, it was wide open at the
end of this thing.

Speaker 2 (20:43):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
I want to see the Nuggets tonight, whether they ultimately
win or lose. I want to see him come out
tonight with that mindset that they had in the fourth quarter,
and I want to see him come out and challenge
the Thunder defensively like they have shown stretches of. Right
they played Game seven against the Clippers, Game five against

(21:05):
the Clippers that way, part of Game six in l A.
That way, you're you're contesting everything. Nothing easy, And I
think if they do. They're going to be in this
game tonight.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
Big trade in the NFL. We'll get to it coming
up next. You were right last night. We'll see what
happens tomorrow night. That would you grant? Just keep that
ya one?

Speaker 1 (21:30):
Yeah, one, I'm very happy for you.

Speaker 2 (21:35):
I do want to just also put out point out
me and Day for right on with our picks yesterday.
Were you golden standing under Oh boy, yeah, you're right. No,
I just means sometimes you know just just what it is.
That's right. I will be at six.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
So today we woke up to the news that the
Cowboys traded a twenty twenty six to round pick and
a twenty seventh fifth round pick to the Steelers in
exchange for wide receiver George Pickens and a twenty twenty
seven seventh round pain. I know, Dave, you go ahead,
you well listen, You've been telling me for months that
this dude was gonna get moved, and I knew there
was You got there.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
The minute DK got there, you knew he was gonna
be gone, like literally knew he was there, the same
type of receiver, and you just paid one. You're not
gonna pay the other one. I'm just surprised it didn't
happen sooner. I'm surprised it didn't happen during the drafts
actually get something out of it. I think this is.

Speaker 3 (22:31):
I think it's an interesting move because he's he's talented,
but I think with this signals from the Steelers standpoint
is that.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Hey, man, you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
You you've made You've made big plays, but also you're
paying the ass. You're a diva and I'm tired of
dealing with you. So whatever I can get for you,
I'm moving you out here. And I think for Mike
Tomlin because to me, this would not come from ownership.
This would be Mike Tomlins saying, you now have become

(23:07):
more headaches than what I view as your worth here,
and so I'm gonna let somebody else deal with these
headaches and we're gonna take whatever sort of draft choices
we can get and move on.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
You just have to wonder, was it a you know,
where you're starting to have contract negotiations and it's like, oh, yeah,
we're never going to get to where we need to get.
So you know, you make a trade, what'd you go
get you? No? DK who was like they're literally very
similar receivers not necessarily short speed, very long striders. You
will go up and get the ball, and a lot

(23:40):
of jump ball capabilities with both of them, and so
they wouldn't get got DK paid him, and then so
instantly you're like, all right, there's not enough room out
there for both of y'all because we already see what
happens when he doesn't get the ball, and so you're
bringing another prominent receiver that's going to demand the ball,
and it's just not going to work out. So you know,
it's a tough situ question. And I just hope that

(24:01):
going off what Day says. I just really hope that
he gets it together and he doesn't let the attitude
ruin his career.

Speaker 3 (24:07):
And here's the other thing from Pickings standpoint, I think
he's got to modify sort of his mental approach to
the game. Do you think for a minute you're going
to go to Dallas now and you're gonna get more
football than CD lamb. That's not going to happen. So
I could see that move not really working out for

(24:30):
the Cowboys unless George Pickens comes to the conclusion like, hey,
you know what, I still think I'm a number one guy.
But with CD here, if I catch seventy passes for
eleven hundred yards and eight touchdowns, I'm good with that
cause I think those especially in that offense, he could
achieve those type numbers. But he's not gonna He's not

(24:53):
going to surpass CD Lamb in terms of Dak Prescott's
favorite target.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
No, he goes there and he's insult of the number
two instantly, the number two, and there's no debate about it.
So it'd be interesting to see how he handles that. Also,
just seeing somebody else get more targets than you and
deserve to be solo. He deserved, like Ceedee, Lamb has
been a dog in his league and has proven you
know that he's a top tier receiver in this league

(25:19):
for year in the year out. So it's interesting to
see how, you know, maybe it would be different, Maybe
this would be the wake up call that he needs it.
And hopefully because one thing I don't ever want to see.
I don't ever want to see players do stuff themselves
that lose their money. I don't want to see players
that do stuff themselves that you know, actually end up
shortening their career. So I hope that you know this

(25:40):
is the wake up call like, oh, you know, no
matter if I'm putting up these numbers, some people just
don't want to deal with that. And you kind of
move on from there.

Speaker 1 (25:48):
By you brought up Mike Tomlin and you think about
how good of a job he has done managing that
locker more or this this length of time. But Antonio Brown,
George Pickens super unbelievably all world talented players that I
don't know if every locker room could handle that kind
of personality.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
And you saw Antonio Brown as soon as he left.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
I mean, he was still a very good receiver, but
he did not fly as well down there with Tampa
Bayley's personality Wise.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
I think Antonio Antonio Brown much more talented than George Pickens.
Antonio Brown, you know, he's obviously pretty challenging to deal with,
but in terms of his talent, he's he's he's unbelievably talented.
But I think again, I think the league, and I

(26:40):
think the league has been forced to deal with some
of what I call this because you have some players
that are more likely and I hate to say it,
because a lot of them are receivers to speak up,
you know, when they're not getting the ball, and we
we've lost sight a little bit on what the important

(27:02):
thing is. The important thing you getting paid is important.
The important thing is what can you do to help
us win games. I'm not really interested in sitting down
and having to lay out to you. What I can
do is a play caller or whatever to make sure
you come away with twelve targets every game and nine catches.

Speaker 2 (27:24):
That's our job, is.

Speaker 3 (27:25):
To try to create a game plan that we win
games and hopefully incorporate our best players. So I think
the league is starting to kind of shift back to
where some of those dudes you're going to put up
with because they're so talented you can't afford not to.
But other ones like Pickens, and Pickens is a straight
line guy, a really talented ball catcher.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
But I don't know, I got to see.

Speaker 3 (27:51):
I mean, does anybody in America think that George Pickens
right now would be a top ten receiver in the game?

Speaker 2 (27:58):
And I don't either.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
So man, go do your thing in Dallas, put up numbers,
be a good locker room guy, and what you're gonna do.
If you do that, you're gonna wind up getting paid
in a year.

Speaker 2 (28:11):
Or so, don't talk about it, be about it. I
don't hear you talk. You know, it's funny. Uh my
old d line coach Bill Colar used to tell me,
is that my ears liighting me. My eye is dope,
you know, you know, Oh my gosh, I actually just
saw him yesterday. No, but you know, it's just it's
the saying of you know, it's funny because he's a

(28:31):
delone coach. He'd be like, oh, you could tell me
what the block was or whatever, but when I watch
it on film, that's not what happened. So my ears
ighting me, my eyes don't. And so I'm tired of, like,
you know, all these new receivers talking about how great
they you know they are, and how you know how
much respect they deserve.

Speaker 3 (28:45):
And if you ever played for a coach that you
swear words more as an adjective than Bill Kohler.

Speaker 2 (28:51):
Hey, one of my favorite coaches of all times, Bill Coler,
just because of that one reason alone, Because it's funny,
because he's the type of guy that can liarly walk
out the building and turn it off and like he's
this hard ass like coach, but he loves kids like you,
like literally, like he has this soft spot in them.
But he's this, but it's Bill Colar, Like if you
know Bill, you can hear him from a mile away. Yes,

(29:17):
you can hear him from a mile away. You know what.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
There was a season and I'm trying to think. My
memory tells me Colar was here, like the COVID season.
Oh yeah, do you know that I'm broadcasting games with
no fans in the stands and I won't say who,
but I could hear a lot of stuff going on
from the sideline.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
It's probably yelling at me a lot, tell you that,
But I always say, Bill Colar is one of the
if you ever get to look up any sound clips
of Bill carry it goes back to the days of
the show The Greatest Show on Turf, because you got
to do. He was a d line coach for the
Rams one for the Greatest Show on Turf. And there's
like clips of them worth you know, you know, the

(30:00):
NFL network clips and stuff, and all you hear is
what it's Colon? Oh yeah, always, and so then one
of them always would be one of my favorite guys.
One quick thing here on Pickens. I found this fascinating.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
He's not signing an extension he's playing out the last
year of his contract in Dallas.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
They traded a third rounder. Yeah, that's why to me.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
You know, I don't know who is inner circle is
comprised of, but somebody who loves the guy that can
get through it on him, sit him down and say, listen,
let's let's not have anything come up like modify your behavior,
go ball, catch as many balls as they throw to you.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
Be a great locker room guy.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
And if you do that, your talent will dictate in
one season that you're going to get a three or
four year deal from somebody for a lot of money.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
Can we do that? Yeah, because everybody knows that he's
extremely talented. That's never been the question. As everyone knows
that he goes out there and he can make any
he'd make a big play happen out anywhere. We know
that about George Pickens. The issue is is he needs
to just grow up in the maturity behind it.

Speaker 1 (31:15):
Thunder and the Nuggets. A couple more thoughts here quick
on George Pickens. The personality thing is because when nobody's
denying is talent, it's the personality and what you can
absorb into your locker room. Sorry, So, first, of all,
Dallas has got its own sort of set of issues
on one level because Broncos fans almost immediately, and I

(31:36):
think that every fan base does this when these trades.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Go down, like can we afford it? That? Would you
want to.

Speaker 1 (31:40):
George Pickens kind of player in this locker room?

Speaker 3 (31:44):
I think More importantly, I feel pretty confident that Sean
Payton would not right. I want to deal with George Pickens,
and I think Sean, I mean, honestly, if you look
at how let's just look at the wide receiver room
for the Broncos and you look at how that is constructed,

(32:06):
it's it's anti diva, It's guys that want to work
in the running game. It's it's it's almost exactly the
blueprint of Mike Shanahan. When Mike got here in nineteen
ninety five, he got here, he inherited two first round

(32:29):
former first round picks that were playing wide receiver, both
really good players. I thought Anthony Miller, Mike Pritchard, rod
Smith was here. He'd been here as a rookie I
think in ninety four undrafted, and Mike brought with him
Ed McCaffrey from the Niners.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
Those both those.

Speaker 3 (32:52):
Number one picks were gone, and it became ed McCaffrey
and Rod Smith. Why they had talent for sure, the
ball catchers, fifty to fifty catchers, Guys that would catch
the ball in traffic, Guys that would work in the
running game, Guys that weren't divas. I mean, And that's
exactly I think the blueprint for Sean Payton on what

(33:15):
he wants from his receivers. Pat the Pat Bryant, by
all accounts, same kind of guy, loves ball, will William blocker,
tough as hell, excellent ball catcher, Gonna catch it in traffic,
gonna catch it with bodies on him, dependable. That's the

(33:35):
kind of receiver that I think Sean Payton wants. And
I do not think Sean Payt would have an interest
in George Pickens.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
Had a chance, not a chance, because you can just
tell the way the Broncos are set up there. You know,
they don't really want a diva at any position. They
want hard working, you know, blue collar guys wanna go
there in a hard hat, lunch pail, go work. You know,
that's exactly what I think I think of, like a

(34:02):
Courtland sudden. Well, let's talk about these Steelers receivers over
the years. You know, we started with Martavis Bryant, right,
traded in twenty eighteen for behavior issues, Anthonio Brown traded
in twenty nineteen for behavior issues, Chase Claypool traded in
twenty twenty two for behavior issues. Then you have Deonte
Johnson traded last year for behavior issues, and now you

(34:24):
have George Issue George Pickens traded for behavior issues and
before though. It makes sense though, because before Pittsburgh was
always seen as a place where people can go and
no matter what you are, you're gonna fall into the
Steeler way. But that's that's not what it is anymore.
So I think they might have to do a little
better job of, you know, deciding who they're going to draft,
because you just can't take the guy with all the

(34:46):
talent all the time. It might disrupt your locker room.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
But the point is is Mike Tomlin got the best
out of all of those guys, Like they when they
went away.

Speaker 2 (34:54):
Weren't even close to who they were, So we're even close.
Martavis Bryant looks like the next star of the league.

Speaker 1 (34:59):
I mean, Brown was still good. Obviously, he was good
with Tom Brady. Remember I mean, of course he had
the spot there with New England. The spot with the
Raiders did not work out because of his personality.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
Martatos Bryant.

Speaker 1 (35:10):
I mean, I think he was basically retired more or
less a year or so after he left. Chase Wapool
didn't like, well it was but you know what I'm saying,
Like and Chase Claypool's kind of same thing. Like they
got a lot of value for that trade. I don't
even know if he's in the league anymore, but that
that's the point, Like, that's why you build a statue
of Mike Tomlin. Steeler fans stop trying to get this
guy fired.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
Man. Chase Claypool ruined it when he started celebrating on
the two minute drill you ain't lying, and they got
mad at his teeth. It's I don't think I don't
think he is. I don't think he's in the league
right now though, And from a guy, and which is crazy,
because you really don't ever see guys like that from
Notre Dame. That's a fact. You really don't ever see
guys that like go to a school like Notre Dame

(35:52):
in the middle of nowhere, small towns South Bend, Indiana,
up cavalist with nothing to do. It's not like a
party school, and he comes out and it is this
complete opposite of what you expect from a guy.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
Then more, Dame, you've rut of the Broncos Wide Receiver room.
I want to talk a little bit about that coming up,
because Gabe Davis is now all of a sudden available,
and Broncos fans have sort of debating whether or not
I think.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
The room is. It's kind of done.

Speaker 1 (36:17):
I think the wide receiver is a weird thing to
say in May, but they got six guys already.

Speaker 2 (36:21):
I don't know if we're going to.

Speaker 3 (36:22):
Get to a se I would say, I know, we
got to go quickly. I would say, I like Gabe
Davis and his skill set, but I think they've got
guys that fit that particular skill set already in the room.

Speaker 2 (36:34):
Okay, let's get that when come back.
