Speaker 1 (00:00):
Dave Logan, Ryan Edwards, Orlando Franklin will belong here a
little while.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Dave, my friend, good to see you. Good seeing you too.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Ryan.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Are you feeling better?
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Yeah, you know a little better. It's uh, you know
those summer things. I want to say, I'm not directly
blaming my kids. This will come across as bad. But
the tail into school, they kept telling me, oh, this
person is sick and this person is sick, and I'm like,
please just avoid them. You got one week left here, right,
and sure enough, you know they call that last week
(00:26):
my youngest gets sick and I mean, you know, man,
it's just this stuff. It's like wildfire.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Are they are little incubators?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
You know?
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Yeah, so you know you love them and you know
you want to They.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Want to be held and dishes. Oh yeah, oh yeah,
So you know.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
I'm good. I'm here, though, what do we always say?
The jersey is on, so I'm ready to go, there,
we go, ready to play. You know, I thought about
you on Friday. Of course I thought about the show
and unfortunately couldn't be here, but I thought about you
because the pacers, I mean that's shot by Tyree's I
mean he just he continues to do that, and you know,
I wondered, I wondered what tone you might take with me,
(01:07):
as in boy, you know the Thunder. And then Sunday
happened and I was like, all right, well, we're back.
Speaker 3 (01:15):
To my tone, even though you were not here on Friday.
My tone Friday was I didn't think Oak City had
the same defensive sort of mindset in the first game.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
And I think and I had called Oak City soft.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
More than once, and I think their softness showed in
Game one more on the offensive side. They reminded me
a little bit in Game one of how they played
Game one against the Nuggets. Down the stretch, things tightened up,
the Nuggets made a push, started closing the gap. Then
all of a sudden, it's like Oklahoma City goes four
(01:58):
out and just let Shay try to handle everything.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
And he got a good look up one that didn't
go in.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
And so I think that part of this Oklahoma City
team is still, whether you call it a work in
progress if you're a thunderfan, or whether you call it
a bit of a red flag if you're not, really
you don't really care who wins it, But they're still
and I've got two wagers with Ben that A this
(02:27):
will not go seven games and B Indiana will not win.
I'm as I sit here today, we'll find out I
starting Wednesday. I'm not sure Indiana is going to win
either of those two games in Indiana not sure could
they Sure they could, but I'm not sure. I think
(02:48):
Oklahoma City will be favored in both games three and four,
which when you think, are they five and a half?
I haven't seen a line, but when you think about it,
that's in an NBA Finals, in a series that is
tied a one game apiece, So the road team has
already proven they can win at least a game. Now
the road team goes home. To be that much of
(03:11):
an underdog significant is significant. Yeah, So I'm now listen.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
I'm with you on that. And maybe there's a little
bit of recency bias watching last night's game and seeing
Oklahoma City to handle them. You knew they would like
they handled the Nuggets in a second game, right. I mean,
this tends to be the case in the NBA playoffs.
If if the road team stuns the first in the
first game, then the second game is the home team
prohibited favor and that they were obviously that but yeah,
(03:36):
I mean i'd say I said that's about rights, you know.
I mean, he's thinking about this in terms of the
way these two teams are constructed.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
You got to give a lot of credit certainly.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
The pacers that I know you do just in hanging
in there and not being afraid of those moments like tyree'se.
Halliburton does this NBA Playoffs alone, and he's been doing
this in his early career anyways, but this NBA Playoffs alone,
he's put him off on the map.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
I mean, he is not afraid of that shot.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Remember having for how many years we talked about Lebron
James maybe being afraid of that shot, passing it off,
not taking that shot, and we'd be like, dude, if
you're the best in the game, you take that shot.
If you're the best player on your team, best in
the game, you do not pass the ball. And here's
Tyrese Haliburn over and over again, just not afraid and
then converting it.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Yeah, I think he.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
I think he's five for five in this postseason, and
I acknowledge this stat on Friday, five for five in
this postseason with game tying shots or game winning shots
the rest of the NBA collectively in the postseason four
for twenty wow in a similar situation. So he's shown
(04:44):
a he's shown a really nice ability to understand the
moment and then be able to convert, be able to
hit hit those shots. Where I don't think he's been
as good is just his overall game prior to those
close out type situations. I mean, I think he has
seven points at halftime in Game two, you know, just
(05:08):
was sort of a non factor that. I mean, he
can't if if he's the guy, he can't have like
a half where he's not even I will say he
wasn't interested, but he wasn't aggressive offensively at all.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
Agains Like we talked about Anthony Edwards.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Yeah, we've seen an Edwards, you know, have similar sort
of stretches in play. But I think it's it's an
entertaining series, I think, I think in the I think
the atmosphere will be terrific for Games three and four.
Anxious to see how it plays.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Out, absolutely no, I can't wait. But yeah, I mean
the way that this is sort of playing out I
think is as you dictated, did Ben try because been
try to with me say, oh well now I'm you know,
after the Pacers won Game one, he was thinking that
he was going to get a stake dinner out of you.
He was like, I'm pretty sure, if I remember correctly,
this was a double or nothing bet. So he's just
(06:03):
trying to get back to even Is that correct.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Yeah, we've we've got we've got a steak dinner that
Indiana wins the series. Ben took that bet. Uh, and
then we have steak dinner that goes seven games. Ben
took that bet. I don't think either of which I'm
in danger of losing. No, but you are on it.
I have two, yeah, that I haven't collected yet, So
I'm looking forward to it.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
You are.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
I'm looking forward. We can go to Shanahan's. We can
go to Eddy V's.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Yeah, maybe, dol Frisco's maybe always whatever. There's so there's
a lot of good places to eat.
Speaker 1 (06:35):
All good options, all good options. No Sizzler, we avoid that.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah, gosh, I used to. I used to go to Sizzler.
I did to back in the day.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Absolutely well. Version, I mean, let me ask a questions.
Do they still have scisslor in town?
Speaker 1 (06:48):
I don't think here because I think we did the
PELOPI got a sizzler in Oak City.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
I bet they do that.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Seems it's like a Midwest It seems like a Midwest
kind of kind of deal.
Speaker 2 (06:59):
One thing before we get to the NFL. Here.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
So he has some NFL stuff that came out today.
I do wonder And I heard Adam Silver on I
think it was Fox talking about this. They understand under
this new CBA, it's going to invite a lot more
parody into the league. And you're going to see small
market teams like Indiana and Oklahoma City who draft and
(07:23):
trade and appropriately build their teams under the new CBA
will find themselves in position to compete for championships. This
is not historically what the NBA has been. We've talked
about this many times. Historically, the NBA is about the
big markets. It's about building from the big markets, and hey,
everybody else's kind of fodder for those guys. But now
you're gonna have this. And so I bring this up
(07:44):
because the ratings came out at least for Game one
and it was not very good. Yeah, it was like,
I don't know if you have talked about it front.
Speaker 2 (07:49):
It is bad.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
It's bad ratings and imagine we'll get some ratings here
for Game two and it won't be much better. I
guess NBA and NBA fans probably should be prepared for this.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
This is going to be I guess the large part
of the new norm, right. Yeah, I don't think NBA.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
I mean, the league probably has to because of their
their TV partners, but I don't think NBA fans care
one way or the other. How many people are watching
the NBA Finals. I mean, you have you have two
mid market teams. Adam Silver and you knew he was
prepared for the interview and the questions because he immediately
referred to the Super Bowl where the Steelers play the
(08:27):
Packers to mid level two. There's just a huge, undeniable
difference between the popularity of the NFL and football in
general to this country and any other sport. Doesn't mean
other sports aren't good. Doesn't mean that there aren't people
that care about them or want to watch them. I mean, hell,
(08:49):
I love the NBA, love college basketball, watch baseball, whatever,
but none of those sports. And I think the interesting
thing for commissioners of the league and those that have
to negotiate TV rights for their their sport, they have
to be able to sell the TV partner that this
(09:12):
is going to be different, that we're not the NFL.
And so if TV partners of the NBA or Major
League Baseball or any other sport look at the TV
partnerships that the NFL enjoy and the revenue generated for
each team from those TV contracts, they're never going to
make a deal that is viewed as an equitable deal
(09:34):
or a good deal because they're never going to attract
that kind of viewership. So I thought Silver did as
best he could trying to deflect a little bit some of.
Speaker 2 (09:44):
The some of the some of the issues.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
But yeah, I don't I don't think other than the
NBA as a league and the TV partners, I don't
think anybody else cares how many people might be watching
this particular series. I think it's up to Adam Silver
and those who negotiate the deal to prepare those TV
partners and to try to impress upon them how important
(10:10):
it is for them to be realistic in terms of, hey,
here's where we think we can get to in our
postseason numbers.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Perfectly said, yeah, it's just gonna be an adjustment, and
you build up the NBA for so long under David Stern,
with the anticipation that it's about Boston and LA specifically
in the Texas teams of course, but now we're in
a new era, which is good. I think good news
for the Nuggets too. I mean, that's gets good news
for a lot of these teams. It's good news when
we talk about parody in the NFL. That's what makes
(10:40):
it so strong in so many ways is you can
have Green Bay versus Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Those could be elite teams.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
And nobody's surprised by them being in the Super Bowl.
That's not a surprise whatsoever. We don't need the New
York Jets or the Giants to buoy the NFL, but
the NBA historically has not been that case. So I
just think it's sort of fascinating as far as we're
in a bit of of a growth period for the
NBA and to see what they do. On the other
side of this, we found out yesterday that Nick Chubb
(11:07):
was getting he was going to be in Houston, he
was going to get a physical and if everything went well,
which we're finding out moments ago that it did, that
he is expected to sign with the Texans. Does this
add pressure to the Broncos to get something done with JK.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Dobbins.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
Because we talked last week saying that the Broncos might
be looking in the market. They brought in Dobbins, maybe
they might continue to look at Nick Chubb, but it
doesn't look like he's going to be out there anymore.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
No, it looks like he's going to go to Houston.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
So to answer your question, does it put more pressure
on the Broncos?
Speaker 2 (11:37):
I think it depends.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
Again on how they viewed their courtship so to speak,
with AK Dobbins, and how much importance did they place
or do they place on bringing a veteran back like
that in If if it.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Was more of a cursory, cursorary sort.
Speaker 3 (11:58):
Of meeting, just we just want to we want to
see what kind of guy he is, maybe pick up
a little intel in terms of, you know, his experience
in the Los Angeles, then no, I don't think it
puts any more pressure on him at all. If they
really thought like, hey, we need a veteran back to
add to the room, well our comfort level will be
(12:18):
much higher.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
If we get that guy. And if JK.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Dobbins doesn't want to come for what we think is
a fair market offer, then we always can go back
to Nick Chubb. Well, now Chubb appears to be going
to Houston. So if those things align all.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
The things that I mentioned, well, then yeah, maybe that
does light a little bit of a fire under the
Broncos or anybody else that may be seeking out a
veteran running back.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
I think it's so tough to know exactly how the
Broncos view that situation, specifically with Dobbins or even just
the running back room, because we talk about it from
our perspective, which is outside of the organization. I think
a lot of people when they talk about the Broncos
running back room, it's always framed in a way that
is through your own lens, like, oh boy, you know, hey,
if R J. Harvey is RB one and Andre Guestimay
(13:05):
is sort of the complimentary and running back, how do
we feel about that as a plan this year. It's
kind of like our Devon Vley conversation, which I was
maybe wrong.
Speaker 3 (13:14):
On maybe I mean, just go ahead when you didn't
because I thought it was appropriate to be honest, but
go ahead.
Speaker 1 (13:24):
It's very early, it's very early the process day. But
if I am wrong on that, it's it's really about
the unknown and saying, Okay, how many hedges do you
ultimately need? So JK. Dobbins, in a lot of ways,
it's not like you're bringing in Saquon Barkley. I think
nobody's talking about it in terms of that, or Derek
Henry or you know, one of the top elite tier
running backs. I think it just adds to the room.
(13:46):
It adds to the depth, it adds to the floor
of the room. So that I guess want to come
back to it. I don't feel like there's that absolute
need because if the Broncos come out of this situation
and say, you know what, we talked to JK. And
in the end it's we like the young guys. They
what with the young guys last year? Didn't they Dave
with Ryanes.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
With wide receivers, Yeah, out and look would have got them?
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Well, you got some good development time and you got
on the postseason?
Speaker 2 (14:09):
It did they?
Speaker 3 (14:10):
They and my estimation, did not have an efficient year.
Efficienciason at the running back position. I think there were
yards left on the field that cannot be left on
the field if you're going to be a playoff caliber team,
And I think this team is there. If this team
(14:31):
was in a total rebuild, then I don't think we'd
be talking about a guy like JK. Dobbins or adding
to that room. I think the question for the Broncos,
and the question would be if if I were ultimately
making the decision about JK. Dobbins, would you be satisfied.
Let's just say you pass on JK.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Dobbins.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
Before you make the decision to pass on him, would
you be satisfied with the running back room if R. J.
Harvey could not play now of course not okay, Well
then then if that's the answer, and I think that
would be the answer for me as well, then it's
important that you go out and at least attempt to
(15:14):
try to bring a veteran running back in the room.
You got to have because we've seen in the NFL
too often something can happen, unfortunately for anybody. And I mean,
take one guy. You should be able to take one
guy out of the room in the NFL. Now it
doesn't always work this way, but take one guy out
(15:35):
of the room and are you functional and can you
be a playoff caliber team without that one guy in
the room.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Because that's the question to me.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
That's how you build depth on the roster, you build continuity.
You you know you have interchangeable parts a lot of
times with respect to receivers. So would you be comfortable
if Courtland Sutton could not play?
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Comfortable? But would you be functional?
Speaker 3 (16:02):
Would you still be able to be a playoff caliber
team from a wide receiver standpoint if court didn't take
a snap?
Speaker 2 (16:11):
Maybe? Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:12):
I like their chances in that regard. But if you
do it at running back, then you do it for
your second round draft choice, and then you have no
disrespect to anybody.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Then you have you have estimate.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
You've got Blake Watson, You've got Badet Tyler Badat, you
got Jaliel.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
Going into the season. And the answer would be hmmm,
probably not. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
So I'm I still think I don't know, I don't
know this to be true or not true, but I
still think that they would have an interest in bringing
whether it be JK. Dobbins or another veteran running back.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
We'll come back to the running backs for a second.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
The other story I wanted to get to you before
we hit the break is your main Pratt as well
as jyr X Alexander, two prominent names on the defensive
side of the ball. We're released today. Jay Air, Again,
I'm a big fan. I don't think the Broncos have
any interest whatsoever in corners at this point. But from
the inside, linebacker is one we've talked about a lot.
Do you have It probably takes you moving on from
(17:15):
Alex Singleton if you're going to do something like that,
if you're going to say bring in Jermaine Pratt, and
I think a lot of the stems from just the
health of the room. As we sit here today, you
have two of your starting inside linebackers that can't practice,
So I guess you have to believe that they're going
to be available for training camp and then you're good
to go.
Speaker 3 (17:36):
Yeah, I'm going to rely on my medical staff in
that regard. I mean, we've been led to believe that
Drake Greenlaw is going to be fined, that he's going
to be able to I'm not sure at the start
of camp, but he's going to be ready to go
when the season starts.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
So if you believe.
Speaker 3 (17:54):
That, I think then he gets down to two guys
that are coming off injuries.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
How is drews Anders.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
He came back from the Achilles played late in the year,
but he's going to play inside. Do you like him inside?
You like his size, you like his athletic ability. Is
he a guy that you think, you know can get
significant snaps when you're in your base defense inside?
Speaker 2 (18:20):
And then alex singleson coming.
Speaker 3 (18:21):
Off the Achilles Tour that in week one in Seattle,
So it's going to be about a year where is
seeing his recovery And do you think he's a guy
that is going to be ready to go? Because once
you get past those two, then you're into the Justin Strnad,
you're into the Lavelle Bailey, you're into some of the
some of the sort of backup core special teams guys
(18:43):
not that they can't play or not deserving of a chance.
So I'm not sure about Pratt. I'm not sure what
the I'm not sure what the league feels. I would
not be interested in jay R Alexander period period, but
I don't that's kind of an interesting potential.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
Well interested.
Speaker 1 (19:03):
I didn't want to let you down with a because
every single player that gets released, we have to have
the whole of course, this guy, of course, and so.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
I didn't want to you know, you'd be so disappointed
in me. I would be if if.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
If a name player was dropped by another NFL team
and I didn't bring him up on the show.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
I know that very true. I'm not mad at you.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
But the good news, the good news is I feel
like I've done a lot of growth in this Do
you feel like you've had a lot of growth.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
I feel like I've had a lot of growth.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
Because in terms of because what I brought up jy
R Alexander, I did not try to make the case
for him.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
That's okay, okay, yeah I would. I would.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
I would not be interested in Jyr Alexander. I wouldn't either,
I think he said. I think he said moments where
he's been a pretty good corner. Yeah, he said, moments
maybe where he like talks too much and is not
necessarily great in the locker room. So again, with their
every player, you're the greatness of the player on the
field is compared to and measured to how big a
(20:08):
pain of the ass he is.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
To deal with when he's not on the field.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
So that's the quotient, and you just have to figure out,
really what the final answer is.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
Kind of like a jeopardy thing, kind of like a
Jeopardy thing.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Yeah, it would be like and again another example of
that would be like, you know Antonio Brown still sitting
out there. You know we please.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Even you, would you advocate Antonio Brown anywhere?
Speaker 2 (20:34):
No?
Speaker 1 (20:34):
No, No, It's the same conversation when Stevan Diggs came
up over the summer and you were like, absolutely not.
And did you hear me for a moment.
Speaker 3 (20:41):
Be like, I think Diggs, I mean, I think Diggs
can still play even though he's coming off an insure.
But man, the last ball year or so in Buffalo
that that turned out when when the Bills are willing
to get rid of their best receiver and their second
best receiver and pretty much say you know what receiver
(21:02):
we're gonna start over. That that should be telling to
other NFL franchises, no doubt about it.
Speaker 1 (21:08):
Often only here on a Monday, Dave Logan Ryan Edwards
will come back. I have a question that I'm gonna
ask Dave. I want to get into over the course
of the show, the strongest position group for the Broncos,
as well as one that might surprise. We'll get into
that coming up.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
Next to No I listened, I love to I mean
I will drum, the the poop.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
I will drum the hell out of anything that has
a little bit of rhythm to it. Now, your question,
and I cut you off of my Britney Spears fan.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
Not not really? Are I dare ask? I mean?
Speaker 3 (21:47):
Are you?
Speaker 2 (21:48):
Are you?
Speaker 3 (21:51):
I'm I'm I'm already I'm the way I'm acting, I'm
forcing you to feel bad about saying yes, So whatever,
let me just show the hell up.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
Are you a Britney Spears fan?
Speaker 3 (22:02):
Right?
Speaker 1 (22:03):
You know what? Honestly, she's got some bangers. I'll put
it like this, though I probably she sure does, she
sure does. The problem is, I don't.
Speaker 2 (22:17):
Even know why I asked that question. It's just a
song came on. Well because it came on though I know.
But I'm like, I'm.
Speaker 1 (22:23):
Gonna ask this question in a way of like what
are you supposed to say?
Speaker 4 (22:27):
Like?
Speaker 2 (22:28):
Were you really gonna ask me? Are you a Britney
Spears fan? It was just the first thing that popped
into my head.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Yeah, it's because because I was pounding the table. You're
pound of the table and I'm I'm a world class
air drum you are, Oh hey the air drummer. Now
I can't listen. I always kid Rick. I'm gonna go
to one of his performances, the Rick Lewis Project on Friday.
I think it's I won't get there this Friday, but
I'm gonna go and play. I'm gonna play the hell
out of the cowbell. I'm gonna play the.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Hell We gotta get a video of that. I can't wait.
Speaking of Rick, by the way, did you see one
of our listeners. Did you see the farm farmers picture
that he created? Oh with the overalls? Yeah I did not.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
Let's see who did that? One of our listeners is
that Rick? Yeah, that's Rick, that's you. It's oh my god.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Well I told him. I was like, well, the only
thing missing is the puka shells, And so he did
one with puka shells.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Oh Rick?
Speaker 1 (23:32):
And then he did uh talanoa who found it?
Speaker 2 (23:35):
With the goat conversation in the background.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Yeah, wow, there you go.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
I've lost every bit of muscle definition.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
Why why is?
Speaker 2 (23:44):
Why does Rick look like he's three inches taller? That
was and I think.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
Rick even pointed out that's probably the thing that Dave's
gonna point out first, is that he's like, yeah, not
taller than Dave.
Speaker 2 (23:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:56):
No, I missed that where somebody sent that to Rick
and Rick posted it on Twitter. Why is that not
a surprise? Yeah, I mean seriously, that is if you're
listening to the show. Seriously, I mean you are. No,
I'm not gonna say, but it's not surprising that he'd
posts that.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
You could go to my timeline at ARMS Radio or
at one Ricluis and see the photo of that's real bad.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
And by the way, that is not me, it's not you.
I am glad that.
Speaker 1 (24:26):
Gabbo on here again shout out to him, said, this
is a I not like he you know.
Speaker 3 (24:31):
Yeah, like a photo. I look malmourished. I was gonna say,
you do it good lord. You know, it's not like
the worst. You know, it's not the worst it could
have been. You know, certainly.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
It's not great though, that's a nice kind way to
put it.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
It's not great. Rick's head looks huge, by the way,
I just throw there. Are you seeing that? Like his
head I can see it from here compared to his body. Yeah, yeah, okay. Anyways,
it's a good radio segment. The picture, yeah, that I've
seen on on social media.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Very glad. We don't we don't uh broadcast this stream this.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
We're on the air. Uh. We had a couple of
questions here on the Kway. Commis Burrell text on before
we get to the Broncos, Dave, did you get some
poutine yet?
Speaker 2 (25:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (25:24):
I did.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
It was it was. It was really wonderful. It was,
it was wonderful.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
You know what I do?
Speaker 2 (25:37):
You know what I did today? Tell me so?
Speaker 3 (25:42):
So I uh, I wear like like two contacts in
my eye for people, uh not to get too too
like in the weeds. So I wear a soft contact
and then a hard contact over the soft contact because
I have what they call carrat taconis, which is a
corneal disease, and so I have to wear something that
(26:04):
is hard on my eye that flattens the cornea so
that the distortion is not so great that I can
I can see. So I kept my left eye, had
practiced today early, and we're out there and then.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
My left eye is like, man, it's just to irritate.
Speaker 3 (26:19):
So took the hard one out, took the soft one out,
and the soft one had a tear in it.
Speaker 2 (26:25):
So no good. But I don't have time to get home.
Speaker 3 (26:30):
So I'm sitting here looking at you with nothing in
my left eye and everything in my right eye.
Speaker 1 (26:36):
So let me. Because I used to wear contacts, I
don't think I could ever do one with and one without. Like,
how what is the sensation of that? Because it feels
like that would be it would kind of mess with.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Your yeah, depth equilibrium yeaheah, it makes you want to
kind of throw up at me. No, I'm so far,
so good, but I wouldn't want to do it like
every single day. I did that the last time, one
of the first times. When the last time one of
the first times. And Roach was still working here as
a sideline reporter on Broncos football and the Broncos are
(27:09):
playing in London, so we're broadcasting the game at Wimbley
and literally, Ryan the broadcast position is in the stands.
We're outside in the stands, so it's a it's a
it's not real coal, but it's it's a jacket sort
of damp day. And in the pregame, so the pregame
is like whatever forty hours, there's forty there's there's so
(27:33):
many hours of pregame getting you ready for Broncos football. Okay,
I get that, but the pregame, so during the pregame,
my contacts.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
Again.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
I've had the soft one and the hard one, and
they get a little dry, and so I have to
take out the hard one and put drops on it
and put it back onto my eye with my middle finger.
And I've done it for so many years that you know,
I think I'm pretty good at it. So I didn't
you don't have the or you're sitting outside of the
broadcast position. Well, of course, a little bit of a
(28:03):
gust and it blows off my middle finger. The hard
contact does, and so at that point we're sitting outside
concrete seats on concrete, and so I'm like, wait, okay,
don't anybody move. I've dropped dropped contact. So roach was there.
(28:26):
We spend forever looking for the hard contact. Long story short,
I didn't bring I didn't have a I didn't have
a backup, could not find the contact. So I did
the game through binoculars with one eye, which is just.
Speaker 2 (28:43):
A really lousy way to call a game. I'm hoping
that I was not so bad.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
People were saying it was Dave drunk today, or what
exactly is going on in London.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
So I'm cogniz and I'm.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
Very aware of you know, how to how to try to,
you know, do the hard contact thing, and rewet it
and all that.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
It's it's uh, didn't you a game was like a
cracked rib or something like that.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
So you fell.
Speaker 3 (29:08):
Oh I broke I passed out. This was during COVID. Yeah, right,
I passed out. Long story, Uh, I'm making shorts, pasted.
I was standing straight up at home. Lights go out,
pass out fall. My wife got worried, called the whatever,
(29:32):
the nine to one one people. We'd have my mom
living with us for the longest of times, and the
same crew that would come over, and God bless them,
they're just great.
Speaker 2 (29:40):
Take care of my mom. Came over, then take care
of me, Dave, what are you doing? I said, I
don't know. I'm down here, So anyway, take me to
the hospital. Broken collarbone and broke two ribs.
Speaker 3 (29:51):
And that was a Saturday, and the Broncos were playing
in Carolina the next day. Now, the only thing you
look at it one or two wa either was a
blessing that I was at home. But had had we
been traveling, you know, I would I would not have
been able to find a way.
Speaker 2 (30:08):
Anyway. The next next day is the game. We all go.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
The crew goes to empower Field of Male High. We said,
when you think about it, really strange. We're sitting in
em power field, it is empty, and we're calling the
game in Carolina off of the All twenty two broadcast
in our booth.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
So I'm gonna I'm going to sling and it h.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
There were a couple of plays in the game where
you have to as a as a broadcast, you have
to kind of step on it. You got to get excited.
There was a pond return in that game. I can't
remember exactly who did it it was. It wasn't Norwood,
was it? It was? I don't think it was Norwood.
Uh return in the Carolina game. I'll not forget that.
So you can see it start to break in the TV,
and so you know, I was gonna.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
You know, here here we go.
Speaker 3 (30:53):
Yeah, No, I don't think it was training the holiday.
I don't think so. Yeah, I don't think it was
training holiday either. You'll say the name and I'll get it. Yeah,
but man, like the top of my head was going
to blow off on that one.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
But you know what, such as life. Who was that?
Who was the Spencer? Maybe?
Speaker 3 (31:10):
No, it might have been Deontay Spencer. Yeah, returned apply,
I think Carolina. Yes, that's it's definitely Carolina. I want
to say eighty three.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
No, eighty three yards December thirteenth, twenty twenty.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
That's a good poll. I couldn't think of his name,
but I knew it was eighty three yards.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Yeah, that was.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
You need to get after that, one of those things
in a sling. Oh man, yeah, Brittany up in Canada.
Speaker 5 (31:37):
Oh yeah, a little bit, yeah, yeah, a little bit,
A little bit Brittany fever back in the day.
Speaker 1 (31:44):
I think you can get penicillin for that or yeah. Yeah,
I'm just throw that out there, whatever you need. How
was you we get great? Man?
Speaker 2 (31:51):
Howd a plast?
Speaker 3 (31:52):
It wasn't very good for game too? I'm just telling
you the Stanley Cup. I just wanted to bring that up. Oh,
the series is tied at one one.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
I know, I know, man, I know. If speak you
can't feel good about it, I mean I would.
Speaker 5 (32:05):
I would be shocked if Florida wasn't able to Like,
I want this thing to be competitive, don't you guys?
Speaker 1 (32:11):
Competitive? The Cup?
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Let's actually going to be competitive. Oh yes, let's go
at least get to six.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
You're hinding yourself?
Speaker 2 (32:19):
What do you mean blinding myself about what?
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Do you think?
Speaker 2 (32:20):
I just want somebody team to sweep. No, if Ebonton
swept that, you wouldn't be cool with.
Speaker 5 (32:25):
That, I would be disappointed, But I'd be happy for Edmonton.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
For Canada.
Speaker 5 (32:30):
Hey day if I wanted you to understand this right, Like, so,
I grew up in Toronto, Canada.
Speaker 2 (32:35):
I left at fifteen. I'm seven. Now you still are
you still root for Canada?
Speaker 1 (32:42):
No?
Speaker 5 (32:42):
I route for Toronto, rot for Toronto, I wrote for everything.
Speaker 3 (32:45):
Tell me before the series starts? Do you think it
you think it would have been cool?
Speaker 1 (32:49):
Uh? As?
Speaker 3 (32:50):
I said, hey, you with Edmonton in yes, and you
being a Toronto fan?
Speaker 2 (32:55):
Yes? Do you do you.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
Want Ebonton to get their ass kicked? Or do you
root for Edmonton because you grew up in Canada?
Speaker 1 (33:03):
No?
Speaker 5 (33:03):
I rooted for Edmonton because of what happened last year.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
What happened last year? But David, how they lost last year?
Speaker 1 (33:10):
I rooted for.
Speaker 5 (33:11):
Edmonton because of other circumstances. That has nothing to do
with me being Canadian.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
I promise you American.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
Then I got that confused, like I have you know Florida,
but I have adopted Florida like I'm all in.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
There's a country war.
Speaker 5 (33:34):
I'm all in.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
I was doing no, no, no. Hey, you know what,
I've met a lot.
Speaker 3 (33:48):
I mean when I say a lot, like double digit
really nice people from Canada who happened to vacation in
the same area that we vacation, right, nice nice Canadian people.
But they love them some Canadian hockey. And when you
start talking hockey with people from Canada, they give you
that little little side like, hey, bro, we're from Canada, right,
(34:10):
Hockey is our thing.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
So there is a small part.
Speaker 3 (34:13):
Of me, maybe bigger, that is really enjoying the fact
that Florida and double overtime got to win. And now
because I know how important I feel, like, I know
how important it is to Canadians to win the Cup
for the first time since ninety three for their country.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
I'm just not sure it's going to happen this year.
Speaker 5 (34:33):
See, maybe if I lived in Toronto still, maybe I'd
would adopt that. But because of like the Toronto thing
and I'm going to the University of.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Miami Villing scholars and Denver and now.
Speaker 5 (34:42):
The fact that we live here, like yes, I do
rook for the maple leafs, the Raptors and the Blue Jays,
but then it's everything Colorado, and then I don't jump
on any other bandwagon.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
I just don't.
Speaker 3 (34:53):
Now.
Speaker 5 (34:53):
I want to see this thing be competitive, though in
this time.
Speaker 2 (34:55):
I think it will be. Yeah, I think it has been.
I got some good back pedaling here. Actually I want
then Connor McDavid Condo.
Speaker 3 (35:02):
McDavid does things on the ice that it's like most
people couldn't even do if if you weren't on ice,
you had a puck and his stick and you were
just walking through it. His assist on whatever goal that
was in game two, I'm like, you gotta be serious.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Unbelievable. Got Rockport joining us a
