Speaker 1 (00:00):
In studio.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
Hi, Ben, how's it going. You're a really glue to
your phone this afternoon?
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Huhh. You know, just so much going on in the world. Yeah,
there's a lot going on in the world.
Speaker 3 (00:10):
By the way, speaking of that, we will have updates
continuing throughout the afternoon on the situation with.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Iran and Israel.
Speaker 3 (00:18):
You'll hear Rob Dawson coming up here at the bottom
of the hour with more details on that.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
Dave, my friend, Good to see you. What's going on, Ryan, Ben, Sir, we're.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Barreling towards a Father's Day weekend. You got anything fun planned?
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Dave? Just chilling?
Speaker 4 (00:35):
Yeah, I think, just kind of kicking back and enjoying
the day. I mean, you get one, right, not.
Speaker 1 (00:45):
A father that I know of, But you should you should,
I mean you should. No, you don't want to assume
you should just enjoy the day. I'm not gonna have
a tweet scandal like two years ago. Was that was
that on father?
Speaker 2 (01:00):
No? That was when I tweeted a happy mother Day? Yeah,
and yeah, people did not like that, apparently, I see
retweeted it.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
You've got a few sort of what I would call
episodes where we were a little concerned about you?
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Right, episodes made it? Yeah, No, you're Easy's exactly right, right,
a couple episodes.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
I just like how you and I at our stage
in life, we've just said, you know, we're going to
relax on Sunday and and you know, soak up the time.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
And Ben is.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Like, I'm going to try not to tweet something offensive. Yeah,
so I go for the year, we'll see you know
what are are you?
Speaker 1 (01:39):
Are you good thus far? So far? We'll see today
and the boy.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
I mean that that is I mean, listen, you look
for small improvements on a daily base, in your case monthly,
possibly yearly. And the fact that you haven't really engaged
in one of those air quote episodes on social media.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
I'm proud of you.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
It's been Yeah, it's been like to it's been long
in two years since I've had is it really?
Speaker 4 (02:02):
Yeah, there were a couple in there. It's like he
did he did what?
Speaker 2 (02:05):
No? Yeah, I remember us having those Yeah, I tell
you did you see Ben?
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Boy? Boy?
Speaker 2 (02:13):
So for all of you, you can unfollow me at
all Bright NFL. It's a dumpster fire and I wouldn't
follow me anyway.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
Well you say that, but then you know you're teasing
the possibility of something coming out, and so, now is.
Speaker 4 (02:22):
There something coming out this weekend that might be significant that.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
You would tweet about. I don't know who Rose. I'm
going to Rix thing tonight. Who knows? Yeah? Rick Lewis
is uh where is he Rose? No, it's the other way.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah, okay, So I think doors open at six, show
starts at seven. That'll be a good show, the biggest show.
It's a good venue.
Speaker 3 (02:42):
All sort of stuff to get to over the next
hour and a half because we have Rockies Baseball coming up.
They're taking on the Braves kicking off series this weekend.
Russell Westbrook Dave, Yeah, he's out. I mean, at least
for now. I guess there's a theoretical there's a way
to get him back. Yeah, I don't know. I mean
i've I mean, normally.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Like I'll have an opinion on something, doesn't necessarily make
it right, but I'll have an opinion and then tell
you what I think and then you know, stick with that.
But with Russell Westbrook, I have gone back and forth.
I have an appreciation of how hard he plays and
(03:25):
and some of the things that he accomplished. I mean,
he's been a great player in the league. But I'm
talking about last year. Gave him energy, but then on
the other hand he made Uh, there's some plays You're like, no,
what are we doing?
Speaker 1 (03:41):
So I don't know.
Speaker 4 (03:42):
I'm a little bit ambivalent about the fact that he
turned down the four.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
Yeah, So I don't know. I'm I think I'm just
done with all things Russ here in Denver.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
I'm not even doing Russ with potatoes anymore, just in case.
So I think we're just done with all things Russ
here in the wild of all things Russ here in Denver.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
So if d'angela Russell or Russell brand the A's.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
Problematic, I have definitely don't have. I'm definitely off of
that one. Yeah, I think you're about right, David.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
You and I said for a while when this sort
of conversation came up about the player option, we said
that overall, it feels like there's been more positive than negative.
I would agree, but the lasting taste in our mouth.
What's the series against Oklahoma City when he was not good? Right,
But simultaneously, you don't win the Clippers series without.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
Him, that's right?
Speaker 4 (04:37):
So so he did again, I I appreciated his energy.
He obviously loves basketball, not afraid to take the last shot.
I mean, you know he hits the shot, Uh.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
I gotta go back.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
That would have been Oak City well from the corner, yeah, Clippers,
No Oak City from the corner, you know, the that
puts the game into overtime. So he I mean, he
did some things that were really, really good. But I
think at this stage of his career, I'm okay if
(05:12):
he didn't come back again.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
I'm not sure if you're describing Russell Wilson or Russell
Westbrook in the scenario.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
I'm describing Russell Westbrook this point in his career, Ridan
the roller. You know, he's got some great things. I mean,
you're gonna need right now.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
And this is I guess very plainly. The Nuggets got
worse today. Now, how much worse, depending on what other
moves they can make, remains to be seen. Because we
did talk ourselves into the Russell Westbrook experience, knowing they
would bring you some energy off the bench, we would
bring you some veteran leadership in the locker room. And
he certainly has a bulldog mentality. He's tough as hell.
Speaker 4 (05:47):
He rebounds, Yes, he can test shots, I mean, all
those things. Even at thirty seven years of age, he
still does if not at an elite level, he still
does it at a relatively high love and.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
We really liked the idea, especially coming off the bench,
to give a spark to the second unit, and he
did that.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
But the other side of that coin is you'd expect
the guy of his let's call it maturity to have
a higher basketball.
Speaker 1 (06:11):
I Q in high graduations. I mean in that it.
I mean it's shoot you in the foot stuff.
Speaker 2 (06:17):
But he's always been that well okay, yes, right, it's
I just I don't, for the life of me, I
don't understand why a player with that many reps under
his belt still mays those kind of lapses in judgment.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Yep, I mean and listen again, he was always, always
in his career, has been a fearless uh take the
ball to the rat guy at his size he's six
y three, uh and he and he continued to do
that even at his age this year, but he had
trouble finishing. He didn't finish this year the way that
(06:51):
that we have seen him in the past. So I
was a little surprised that he would he would turn
it down and tell you the truth.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
I'm not sure. I'm not going to speak for him.
I don't know what that.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
I think the new financial instead of things, he'll make more.
I mean, if he wants to make more, he'll make
more than that.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Yeah, Now, if we can just trick Dario Sarriz into
declining his and a five and a half, I thought
it was eight, No and a half, Okay, I have
to go back and look. I thought it's close either way.
But he's not gonna make that anywhere else.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
He's not making that anywhere, So I he's going to
go play in Europe anyway.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Well, then maybe they got it under the table to
buy him out of it. You know, you decline it,
we'll give you some and you know, go play in Europe.
But once again, these are all bitch players that you're
gonna have to fill. Now again we get into conversations say, well, okay,
no Russell Westbrook, no Dario Sarrich. That doesn't really move
the needle anyways.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Is the investment in developing your younger player is going
to be the plan?
Speaker 2 (07:45):
Like are we gonna do that? We gonna finally do that?
Or maybe Bruce.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Brabb who you want to develop.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
Well, Julius Strather needs to continue to to be broad
long agree. I think Jalen Pickett would.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
There's the nice moments there in the second half the season.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
What you want to Okay, what you're you're you want it.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
So you're buying into developing Jalen Picket And to what degree?
What do you see if the Nuggets developed Jalen what
what does he become?
Speaker 1 (08:16):
In your mind? Ick a point guard? He's an eight
to ten minute a game guy.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
I mean, really you make you make him more like
a fifteen minute a game guy.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
I don't know. I listen alone.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
I loved his I loved his toughness in college, and
I thought he had the ability to kind of back
guys down to the post and like the like the
y mc a game you know at times, I mean,
he's going to struggle in a huge way defensively because
of his stature, because of his size.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Maybe.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
I mean, I'm not saying like absolutely not, I'm just
sort of like on the fence of a picket.
Speaker 3 (08:55):
Who else, Well, you're going to have Drawn Holmes available
for the first time.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
I'm I'm anxious to see him.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
That's the one I think you've got to be able
to get reliable minutes out of him and be able
to get Nicole off the court at that end of
the third beginning of the fourth quarter for your late
fourth quarter push. And they just weren't successful in doing
that a lot of times this year.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Where don't we see Michael Porter Junior going because he's
going You still think that, huh solutely he is going.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
We are one hundred on that same page there they
need you need. You're gonna have to trade him someplace
where you can get something back though that benefits you,
and you're paying somebody to take on the contract, so
you're gonna take a hit on what you get back,
but you got to get a three and D guy
back at least.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
What do you think about Tray Murphy three and D guy?
What do you think about Tray Murphy?
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Straight up? For he's straight up.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
He's not making that kind of money, is he? He
didn't make MPJA money.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
Not yet? Let me look at his contract.
Speaker 3 (09:48):
But there was a there was reports today coming out
that the alleged asking price for Trey Murphy, who when
he was when he came into town with the Pelicans,
he absolutely.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Torched the nug It's uh.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
They want one veteran who could contribute the playoffs, one
young prospect with potential, and multiple first round picks is
what they're looking for.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Now.
Speaker 3 (10:07):
The multiple first round picks might be looking. I like
your with your face. I was like, that's a lot
for Trey Murphy.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
But he's young, right, Trey Murphy's I mean, he's an
ascending player.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
What about what about MPJ for Dalton connect and Rory Hushima.
Speaker 2 (10:27):
I mean I would do that deal with a heartbeat.
Would the Lakers do that deal? I don't think so well.
And by the way, in order to get Porter Ginia
with Trey Murphy, you're gonna have to take on like CJ.
McCollums deal or something, because there's there's no way. I mean,
he's he makes five point one a year, yeah, eight,
but he's doing extension, so you sign in trade.
Speaker 1 (10:45):
I mean, we just signed to an inflated deal. Then
at that point, hold on, let mean let me pull it.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
There's no way, like right now, there's no way you're
you're doing that.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
No, he just signed an extension.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Yeah, I know, he's five years, five point one million dollars.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Trey Murphy five point that's what he's making.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
I'm looking at a four year, one hundred and twelve
million dollar contract that's getting ready to kick in this year.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Okay, well then maybe this the trade machine has an
update on ESPA because I'm looking, I'm doing the math
on this, and I'm like, yeah, he's making twenty for
the luxury tax threshold.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
He's making twenty five this year.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Okay, this coming, we're still ten lights. So I'll try
to rework that deal and see what I.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Can see what I can figure it out. I mean,
he's he's a good player.
Speaker 4 (11:20):
He can store the average what twenty I think, yes, right, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Injury history for Trey Murphy's is one that you'll have
to navigate.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
You'd either have to take on Kelly Olynux deal twenty.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
One point two and then five rebounds and almost four
siss or Herbert Jones you have you have to take on,
you have to take take Limones.
Speaker 2 (11:42):
Well, but I mean then when you have to get
back because you're not getting you're not getting Murphy and
Herbert Jones reporters not working.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
He would like me to remind you that he wants
to be called Herb Herb or Herb Herbs it's.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
A hard h it's a very it's hard. You know what.
He doesn't want to go by Herbert, No, No, he
does not.
Speaker 3 (12:02):
Well, that would be more interesting to me, and it'd
be a much more significant move than a Hata Mora
connect thing. But but you're right about the Lakers wanting
to move Connect because he wasn't he part of the
trade for the center?
Speaker 2 (12:15):
Yeah, he felt true. Yeah, he was gonna be moved
out for was it? Marvin Jones?
Speaker 1 (12:18):
I believe.
Speaker 4 (12:19):
I tell you what I think his His upside is
is pretty good, pretty significant.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
Yeah, And anytime, especially with what you have with Joki,
you need to get guys that can stretch the court
horizontally and shoot the threes. Connect is that dude Hachi
American hit from outside, But he gives you some rebounding
that you sorely need outside of that.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Of that too, because you're.
Speaker 3 (12:37):
Gonna lose a little bit moving porter the The rumors,
by the way, are that the Nuggets are going to
probably go forward with Ben Tenzer as the GM, So
we'll see if that ends up being the You.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Have a chagrined look on your face. Well, it's just
that I told you so. I was right long.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
And I still think I'm going to be right about
Michael Porter Junior two.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
And if hours in Oklahoma City.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
For Oklahoma City, and I in fact have picked them
to win. So I'm giving you, like my phrase will
be flower this, You're you're going to be right? If
m p J stays yes, You're not gonna You're not
going to be right on that one.
Speaker 2 (13:16):
What I would normally bet him a steak dinner. I'll
eat an impossible burger, the whole thing.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
I will eat it.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Impossible, look like one of those veggie soy but emotation burgers,
whatever they are.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
I will eat an entire right in front. Is that
a word? If Michael Porter Junior is still on this
roster to start the season, No, it's not. I'm being ridiculous.
I mean ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Impossible burger looks a lot like a burger, but it's
just actually it's like from plants.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
Go somewhere in order to give me an impossible burger.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
If they serve it there, yes, impossible or beyond either
one your choice, you can have it. I will eat
one of those. If you go to Robins on this roster,
it starts.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
Robins Impossible, possible, I never heard of an impossible burger.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
Amazing because he doesn't because he and even the amazing
like you know, I've had their family over for Thanksgiving.
Just send him out to the backyard to graze.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
No, but I had like if you, if you, if
Michael Porter Jr. Is on this roster to start the season,
I will eat.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
One hat and all you don't have to eat a hat. Well,
but that's it, doesn't like don't know.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Him. You remember the old festival, you know the Davy Crockett,
you know Mike think and he'll eat.
Speaker 1 (14:26):
His hat if Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
Sure, anyways, I look forward to watching you eat a
hat or an impossible burg or whatever coming.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
I never disagreed with you about them staying in house
with the GM, and.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
I don't think that's done, by the way, the tenser thing,
there's internal disagreement on that.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Okay, I'm just saying the rumors.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
I would say he would probably be the leader in
the clubhouse, but that is not done.
Speaker 3 (14:52):
I have the smile and the because I said that,
they are you just listened to Josh Cronky. He he
made it very They don't think they have a culture problem.
They like they fixed whatever issues they did happen, and
so I said they were gonna hire Adamant takes.
Speaker 1 (15:11):
That is a logical.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Let me ask you this, since you're speculating about.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Michael Poor Junior, when does this get done? Uh?
Speaker 4 (15:26):
I could act like I know, I don't know. I
think it would. I mean before they go to training camp.
They've got some time now.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
It's like.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
Round the beating of July.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Yes, okay, I I think so I said a long
time ago, and I feel even more strongly about it now.
I will be just short of shocked if MPJ is back.
I also the qualifier, because I've learned that from someone.
I think that they're not going to give him away,
(16:00):
but I think they're gonna be able to make a deal.
And I think if it's close in perceived value, they
pull the trigger.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Porter will be dealt some time between now and the
end of August. Take it to the bank. It's a
good thing.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
You've never been wrong.
Speaker 2 (16:15):
One time I thought I was turned out, I was mistaken.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
You've missed. I meantimes.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
If you've missed, you know, never mind. I'm not even
gonna get into that. Okay, So, last couple of thoughts
on this. I theoretically, you're right if you're not giving
him away, if there can be some value. A conversation
you and I got into yesterday we were kind of
thinking about the finals and looking forward to game was
a four tonight. Would you rather be a fan of
(16:44):
one of these two teams with all of this amazing
depth and seemingly endless possibilities or where.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
The Nuggets are currently at. There's a question I asked
you yesterday.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
Would I rather be a fan of one of these
two teams?
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Would you rather team be in the situation like the
pace and the thunder. Everybody's always chasing the next thing.
The next thing right now seems to be depth.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
The next thing right now seems to be able to
go ten eleven deep in the postseason, when historically was like, hey,
get to seven or eight and you're good. You got
you got a Big three, you got stars, you're good.
The Nuggets are not built like this.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
No, they're not, because they they've they've had the Big three,
and I think for teams that have sort of gone
that way in the in the league at one point
really looked to sort of head down that avenue. It
does limit what you can do at the end of
the bench. But here's the thing I think you know,
(17:37):
I'll give you an example, like Indiana Tez McCollum. Uh,
not a great player, he's smart, he's tough, he's not
even a great three point shooter.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
But he's he's a nice mid range jump shooter and.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
High motor, good motor, and it gives you five minutes
energy everything in the ass.
Speaker 4 (18:02):
I mean, those are the kind of guys. He's the
second round I think he's the second round pick. So
you I mean, you can find guys there. There are
guys everywhere that might not be first round picks because
they're two inches too, shorts or whatever. But you can
find guys. And that's what the Nuggets have not done.
(18:22):
You can still find guys even if you kept the
big three. You can find guys at the end of
the bench and be more efficient in that process than
they have done. That's my whole thing. I mean, where
was the kid he was a first round pick?
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Who else on?
Speaker 4 (18:39):
I mean, let's go, let's just right off the top
of our head quickly, Okay, see guys off the bench.
Speaker 1 (18:45):
Okay, I mean.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
First of all, First of all, loud Dort, by the way,
I don't think loud Dort was the first round pick.
I don't think so. I think loud Dort was the
second round pick. I think I could be wrong on that.
But guys off the bench, Isaiah Joe, Aaron Wiggins, Aaron Wiggins.
So where were those guys drafted? Undrafted?
Speaker 2 (19:06):
A lot of these are undrafted players, Okay, Alex Carusso.
Speaker 4 (19:11):
Out, No, Alex Caruso, Yeah he was an undrafted player.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
Yep. He was undrafted as well. Yep.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
So they've done a better job at the back end
of their bench, which has allowed them to develop depth
because they have looked forward. You're not going to find
the so called superstar in the second round or an
undrafted guy. You find a guy that fits a niche
fits something that you need. Caruso is a hell of
(19:40):
a defensive players turned into a decent catch and shoot
guy from three point range, smart as hell, tough as hell.
Give me two or three of those guys as your
death players. We're going to win a lot of games
with the current roster of the Nuggets. Have we had
those we did. We had KCP and we had Bruce Brown.
We did, but they were Casey p and Bruce Brown.
(20:03):
Were more highly regarded than Isaiah Joe. Yeah, you know
what I mean. Alex Caruso. Where was Isaiah Joe drafted?
He's undrafted? Yeah, I know he's undrafted. Yes, I mean,
I don't even know. I fall college basketball in the NBA.
I don't even know where Isaiah Joe went to college.
Speaker 2 (20:18):
Oh No, Isaiah was a second rounder, okay, second Kansas?
Speaker 4 (20:22):
He went to US He was Arkansas? Where was uh?
So Caruso was undrafted?
Speaker 1 (20:27):
Right? Who else comes off the bench for them? Jalen
Williams is another one.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
The other Jalen Wais and Wallace. Where Jason Wallace get drafted?
Speaker 1 (20:39):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Where was he drafted? He was a first round pick? Casey, Yeah,
first round pick went from Kentucky. Okay so, but but
again finding Pam being able to have him there.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
There's guys that will play their ass off on defense.
Speaker 1 (20:56):
There's guys that can shoot the ball.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
They might not be able to create off the dribble
and beat you, But there's guys. When you have Nikolea Jokic,
who comands so much attention when he gets his hands
in the ball and is such a willing and unbelievably
talented passer, you just have to find guys that are
catch and shoot guys.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
And to me, those are the just a couple of them.
Speaker 4 (21:22):
And hey, by the way, I'm going to expend every
ounce of energy I have for the eight minutes or
ten or twelve that I play, and I'm going to
be a pain in the ass on defense. I'm gonna
turn you all the time. I'm gonna work. You're gonna
be tired of seeing me. You got to have a
couple of those type guys. Love it all right, Off
(21:42):
and roll.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
You're on Friday five six six nine Zeros or Kawe
Commas Spirit health text.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
Also, h Deshan Payton, give us a little bit of
information on where they're at with Nick Benito's contract extension.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
We'll get to that next.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
All right, So, I mean the important stuff that I
asked quick lewis on a daily basis.

Speaker 3 (22:47):
Five six six nine zero. That is not the same.
That's a different thing altogether. Five six nine zeros are
Kiwi Common Spirit Health text line. All right, So this
kind of went a little bit under.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
The radar last week.
Speaker 2 (23:00):
We've been wondering if when the Broncos will get a
deal done with Nick Benito. Did you always see a
text their day that you want to do a people
are ripping me for impossible burgers.
Speaker 1 (23:09):
I don't know if you wanted to join them.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
No, I'm just glad that there are other people that
hadn't really heard about it.
Speaker 1 (23:17):
I mean, I feel like I should know about it.
I really did it.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Exists, that's all I know. Yeah, they're really good. I
mean there's something you say, you have.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
It one nine three to one.
Speaker 4 (23:26):
If you're going to eat an entire impossible burger, you'd
better be prepared to spend several hours in the toilet shortly.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
After serb bal to my stomach. Okay, I like them,
I have to, I have to ask the text or
what all?
Speaker 2 (23:37):
What upsets their stomach is it's spicier things like milk.
Speaker 4 (23:40):
Or seven to two oh good, one seven to two
O seven eight four. Impossible burgers are beyond horrible for you,
like twenty ingredients will give and we'll give you colon
cancer and I sicked to beef with one natural ingredient.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Well, okay, that's that's just that's just a lie. But
you know whatever, not a Yeah, I'm just saying I
will eat one of your vegetarian and a vegetarian item
of your choosing. Yeah, there's a lot of propaganda out there,
not even asking for anything back, just because the smug
satisfactions could be so worth it.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Yeah, I think he's gonna be gone too.
Speaker 4 (24:07):
Although I'm i don't really need to eat that.
Speaker 1 (24:12):
You're not gonna make that bet.
Speaker 4 (24:13):
No, I can have a margarite and watch Ben eat
the impossible burger.
Speaker 1 (24:18):
That's fair. That's fair for everybody.
Speaker 2 (24:20):
Yeah, Burger King sells him.
Speaker 1 (24:21):
By the way, do they really just go I can't
think of the last time. I honestly, I.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Found out yesterday they still give the crowns out apparently
so was it yesterday with Nick and Zach were telling
me they still give the crowns that burger can. Is
that something that you need plans the weekend.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
I guess I'm gonna go drive to get to the
driver out of the Burger King. There you go, that's
my whole weekend. There you go. You see what to
stuff like?
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Give me the nod with the Burger King so proud
of yourself.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
She'll love it.
Speaker 3 (24:47):
Yeah, okay, so my way. As I mentioned this one
a little bit under the radar, Sean Payton was asked
about Nick Benito and I didn't I don't know when
he said it.
Speaker 2 (24:57):
He was talking about a snap count.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
He didn't immediately register with me that maybe this was
a bit of a planting of the seed that the
Broncos are in the midst of contract negotiations, and maybe
they're letting us know that maybe Nick Benito isn't a
full time player. I don't know, but anyways, this is
what Sean said about Nick Benito, and he was.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
Asked about him.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
Listen, he's playing at a high level. We have to
be careful of his snack count. If you went back
and did any homework and you saw, man, he's he's
at a pitch count that's borderline too high.
Speaker 1 (25:33):
We got to be smart about.
Speaker 2 (25:34):
That, all right. So I tend to be the guy
that reads into too many things, but dave the fact
that he is in a contract year and you have
the head coach up there saying, hey, he's a great player,
but boy we they gotta keep him on a pitch count.
It feels like a negotiation tactic to me, am I wrong?
Speaker 1 (25:51):
I think so.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
I think he's I think in that case, Sean had
a moment where he well that, no, let me rephrase that,
because that doesn't sound right.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
I think he I think he just told the truth.
Speaker 4 (26:10):
I think you go back and when I first started
becoming very aware of whether you call it snapcounts, pitch counts, whatever,
was when von Miller in his heyday, and I want
to say it was.
Speaker 1 (26:25):
It was one of the years. I can't remember the
exact year.
Speaker 4 (26:27):
Went back and looked at number of snaps on the
defensive side of the ball.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
He was at like fifty.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
Four or fifty five percent, and I was like, wait,
this is this can't be right. So you know, the
Broncos hand out the big, big media book, and so
you go through, you're preparing for the game, You're looking
at different things, and so I was thinking, okay. I
looked at von Miller. I said, so I remember calling
Patrick on this. I said, hey, that can't be right.
(27:01):
Is that right?
Speaker 1 (27:02):
You checked? Came back and said that's right.
Speaker 4 (27:05):
So now I'm thinking, wait a minute, he's he's one
of the elite pass rushers in our game. He had
just it was he had signed the big contract too.
I'm thinking he's on the field for fifty percent of
the snaps. What's going on here? But I think the
league has evolved. It used to be you played every
single down. You know, your tongue could be hanging out
(27:25):
your face, you're still playing every single down. The league
has evolved and now a lot of your great players,
they don't play every day.
Speaker 2 (27:34):
If I asked you, could you tell me where Nick
Benito ranked on the defense in terms of snapcount last year.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Oh, that's a good question. Like deef including's secondary all defensive.
Speaker 4 (27:45):
Players, I would say, uh, one, two, three, for.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
I'd say five or six, ninth, ninth.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Okay, he had less snaps than Jonathan Cooper, by the way,
fewer snaps and Jonathan Cody Barton led to all defensive players.
Speaker 4 (28:12):
PJ locket what percentage of the defensive snaps?
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Sixty one?
Speaker 2 (28:16):
So players were seventy percent or higher.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
So keep keep that in mind, and that's probably that's
probably in today's game, that's probably too high. And that
Ryan I think would be what Sean would be referring to.
I mean, they're they're Sean's and to me an old
school coach.
Speaker 1 (28:33):
But he also.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
Understands analytics and I think probably his analytics department, uh,
and he have had many meetings about hey, we got
to try to we got to try to get some
of these numbers down. It it increases the chances you're
going to keep these guys healthy for a longer period
of time.
Speaker 3 (28:52):
Well, I think you're absolutely right, and I think you
are right about He's just telling the truth. He's just
saying what he wants to say about Nicko and is
the first thing that putt sort of pops in his
head is like, hey, I want this guy fresh, especially
for the end of the game.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
He's why would you.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Think, well, because historically we've heard these kinds of things
thrown out there as on reasons why teams would like
to pay a player less, right, and whether Sean is
doing that intentionally or not, maybe he's giving us a
peek inside of what they think of Nick Benito.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
Do you think of anybody? Are you thinking of somebody that?
Speaker 1 (29:28):
That?
Speaker 2 (29:28):
That? And I know more more generality.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
I mean, we've we've heard in the past of like
when a player comes in for contract negotiations, it's like
they use everything they can to give you reasons why.
It's reasons why we said, hey, this is why you
have an agent.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
You don't want that player.
Speaker 4 (29:43):
That's a fact you know what that players.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
Yeah, here directly from the GM and the coach and like,
hey man, we don't think you're worth this high level,
top of market contract because of X y Z.
Speaker 4 (29:55):
And and now that analytics has used even more, they
have more opportunity to use things to the agent, to
point things out to the agent as reasons why we're
not going to give you what you're asking for. Do
you know that his third down drop rate? Yes, when
a ball is in the air longer than seventeen yards
was the third word. It's like, you know, on a
(30:18):
snap basis, Wow, it right to us.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
Yeah, yeah, so that's what I'm saying, like, and you're right.
And maybe in this case because I asked.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Somebody else out at Broncos the same exact thing and
they said, what you said?
Speaker 1 (30:29):
They said, no, I think he's just literally saying what
it is.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
It's like, boy, it just sounded like a thing that
a GM or a coach would come to a player
and say, we think you're really good and we really
want to have you back.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
We think you're part of our core.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
However, we're not going to give you thirty five million
dollars a year because you're not even a full time player.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
This is why we think that. I think that's gravy
on the potato. I think it was a message to
Vance Joseph that you got to get those other two
guys involved, especially Jonah Ellis who they just drafted, more involved,
because you know, We've all seen Vance's reluctance to play
rookies before, and they got those two guys in lad
Doundrette Tillman, who both had success on person at basis
they'd like to see those guys get a little more
involved in the side benefit is oh hey, if we
(31:06):
get a little public negotiating leverage out of this, you know,
so bid, that's good stuff. Yeah, I was like, what
do we listening to? Maunu chow over here? We got
Rockies Baseball coming at before thirty, news and traffic here
at the top of the hour, the latest on the
escalating situation out there with Iran and Israel.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
Rob Dawson will have that with you in just a
matter of moments.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
So, Ben you did bring up a couple of edge
rushers that I do think that sort of tie into
this Nick Benito conversation. Thank you, Zach, And that is
Q Robinson, who they drafted this last year, has had
a couple of nice moments so far is mandatory mini
camp and OTAs, but maybe he continues that into training
camp as well as Andre Tillman, who had five sacks
(31:54):
last year and he looked fantastic as well. So Dave
if the Broncos aren't a bit of a mind that
of let's see where things play out before we give
Nick Benito a contract extension. Do you think that it's
going to look like a by committee mindset when it
comes to the edge rush group this year?
Speaker 4 (32:12):
Well, again, I think the league has shown that even
great edge pass rushers are only playing so much. So
with that in mind, I mean, you want to develop
that room with as many good young and in some
of the guy's cases that you mentioned, relatively low paid
(32:39):
young edge pass rushers.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
But I still think this.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
I think I think Benito has shown an ability that
may set him apart a little bit. I think it
sets him apart from no disrespect, but I think it
sets him apart from Jonathan. I think it sets him
apart from DeAndrea Tillman, Noah ellis Is.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
I mean, Jonah Elis knows his brother.
Speaker 4 (33:12):
He's an interesting, young, talented, high motor, productive guy. I
think right now Benito is probably get a little bit
more in his repertoire. So you want to develop as
many guys as you possibly can, and I think they'll
(33:33):
find a way. Honestly, I think they'll find a way
to keep Nick Benito, and now maybe what they do
is they sort of play this thing out, kind of
long play it, see what kind of.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Production he has.
Speaker 4 (33:45):
And that requires the player then to bet on himself,
because if the Broncos choose that route, then Benito in
betting on himself. If he has just a spectacular year,
the price of business goes up. So and I think
the Broncos would be willing to sort of take that
(34:06):
risk because even if the price of business goes up,
it's to the Broncos team benefit.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
I think there's there's two things to consider. You. One,
the football aspect of it.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
You know, Benino does have he can play going away
from the ball a little bit too, where Cooper, you know,
those other guys don't really do that. And we saw that,
We saw his ability to grab interceptions and do those
kinds of things. And I think the other aspect of
this is a business aspect, and that is right now,
you've got a quarterback on a rookie deal, so it's
it's easy to pay a lot of different.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Guys and do all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 2 (34:34):
But that quarterback is going to come up for a
deal here in a couple of years, and what you
need to do at that point when you got a
quarterback hunner, you can only pay one edge rusher at
that point. So you're gonna have to go as the
Niners you get, well, you're gonna have to You're gonna
have to find it.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
You're gonna have to find the area.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
So you've got to You've got to develop a pipeline
underneath those guys, because you're gonna have to start cycling
high contracts out in order to have one guy who's
paid and one guy's a rookie on the other side.
You can't afford to pay everybody once you pay a quarterback, right,
So they're already paid Jonathan Cooper for example, Now, yes
they did, that's already an underwar contact number.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
Is not one of the top paid edge pass rushers.
Very true.
Speaker 4 (35:08):
They got him at a number that I think Coop
is happy with, and I think the team's happy with too.
Speaker 1 (35:13):
I completely agree.
Speaker 3 (35:14):
And then I wasn't going to try and make the
case that because you paid Cooper you can't pay Benito.
It's it's not an either or in that case, you
can pay both. It's just more of an acknowledgement of
all these guys that are having pretty good sack production,
I mean again, Anddre Tillen in five sacks in a
part time role last year. And you talked about Joe Nels,
who was just a rookie last year. They expect him
to take another step forward, and so on and so forth,
(35:34):
and they drafted Key Robinson, who's looked really good.
Speaker 1 (35:36):
I can't.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
So it's just to say that maybe they won't be
in such a rush to get that one done to
your point, to see kind of how this plays out
a little bit, especially if Nick Benito is not a
quote unquote full time.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
Player according to Sean Payton.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Just something to but he I would he didn't say that,
say the snapcat was too I didn't say he was
a full time player.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
He said he was.
Speaker 4 (36:00):
I mean, I think it's I think it is incorrect
of us to say that Sean Payton said he's not
a full time player, unless I need maybe I need
to go back and hear that that bite again, because
I think what he was saying was his snap count
last year may have been a little bit too high.
(36:20):
But that I don't I don't think you can extrapolate
that he said he's not a full time guy.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
That's a good point. Those don't necessarily have to equal
each other.
Speaker 1 (36:28):
Great point. I will come back.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
I do want to get your thoughts on the Shamar
Stewart situation out there and Cincy, especially with Ben here
in our NFL insider, get his thoughts on that we
got to Game four to and I will get into
some thoughts on that as well. And we have news
and traffic at the top of the hour with Rob
Dawson in just a matter of moments.
