Speaker 1 (00:00):
Rocky's Baseball coming up here at the bottom of the
hour as they are in Atlanta. Taken on the Braves
five six six nights, zeros or Kai Commics Bird Health
text line if you want to interact with us. So,
before we get to a little bit of thoughts about
Game four tonight, I wanted to ask you guys about
Shamar Stewart and we found out yesterday that he left.

(00:21):
He was done in mandatory mini camp, but in a
lot of ways that it's kind of weird that he
was out there in the first place, not under contract,
though I will say Jade barn is also not currently
under contract, although I think he signed the whatever the
protection kind of thing for.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
The insurance, Yeah, exactly, So I don't know. I'll start
with you, Dave.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
This situation is is kind of weird with Shamar Stewart,
and maybe Ben you can chime in and give us
some reason why.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
This specific.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Time Cincinnati's trying something new with this contract and what
all that means.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
Maybe you maybe give us a little bit of insult insight.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
On the I mean, I can tell you he's the
contract goes back to some incredibly specific contract language.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
Revote about the potential voiding of guarantees.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
The Bengals, to put it as simply as possible, want
to make it clear that any default committed in the
year of a contract wipes out all future guarantees in
the deal, right, And Shamar Stewart.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Doesn't want to do that.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
He wants you know, he wants everything guaranteed, no offset,
that kind of stuff.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Whatever.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
This is a new thing that the Bengals implemented last
year with a various mims. It's they're the only team
that does it this specific way. Shamar Stewart's I mean,
and to be fair, you know, I sort of get it.
That's said, Uh, this is a trivial thing to quip over.
The Bengals can't offer him more money, they can't offer
him better guarantees, everything slotted as far as that goes. Oh,
the only language here is this offset and you're a

(01:43):
stale mayfe the Bengals just drop and get your player
in camp and go. Sort of feels like da've which
was been because it seems like the Bengals are losing
this pr battle like whatever they think they're gaining out
of it, they're not.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yeah, I mean, they the Bengals care less than I do. Okay,
I mean the Bengals don't care Samar Stewart if he
wants to. I mean, I shouldn't say they don't care.
They'd like to have him in camp. I don't think
the Bengals will adjust the contract. You know, don't sign

(02:17):
the contract. I guess it's they want guarantees that if
you if you don't show up for camp, or you
hold out at a certain period, then you void some
of the guaranteed money they gave you. I I mean,
I don't know. That's I guess that's what negotiating is about.

(02:39):
But the NFL, the teams have the leverage. They had
less leverage than they used to because they used to
have all the leverage. But I'm not sure what the
player in this case is is going to do. I'm
not sure what the advice from the agent. His agent
would be.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Seems to be telling him not to do it.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Well, what kind of leverage that I would ask my agent? Okay,
what kind of leverage do we have?

Speaker 2 (03:02):
You go back to the draft next years?

Speaker 1 (03:03):
You just don't play on a team that already is
struggling for bodies to fill that defense.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
Yeah, and they still hold your rights. Well, they hold your.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Rights until the next until the season, and then you
would revert back to the draft.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
So I would say this, So what he's the first
round whose first round pick? I think what's seventeenth correct something?
So he would probably be slotted to make including signing bonus?
What this year? Eight?

Speaker 4 (03:33):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Where would he have been with guaranteed money? He probably
signed a his first year pick. So there's going to
be a four year contract plus the option year, because
all first round draft choices had that in the NFL.
So what's the average in terms of the guarantee for
the first year for a guy drafted midway through the
first round?

Speaker 1 (03:55):
I think it's eighteen point nine Okay, the total deal? Okay,
let's but that's not the guarantee for the first year. No,
I'd have to go back and look, qun't know, you know,
year to year what the contract value is. I think
you got the bonus up front. Yeah, it's a four
point seven ap y and I can't remember how much
of it's guaranteed.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Okay, you so let's just say of the eighteen million
in that first year, you're probably guaranteed. Let's let's just
pick a number. Eight million Okay, you're going back in
the draft. Now. Maybe again, maybe nil stuff. Maybe that
maybe that has changed how players are able to from
a financial standpoint, look at situations like this. But back

(04:32):
in the day before nil and I don't have any
idea how much this young guy at Texas A and
M made an NIL. I know the Aggies have a
ton of money, but before the nil situation, you'd be
walking away from a guarantee of let's just say, eight
million dollars. So then you go back in the draft,
you're if the agent is on top of this, the

(04:53):
agent should say, okay, we go back in the draft.
We don't know who's going to draft us. Uh, and
we're eight million dollars in the hole to start with.
Your career is only so long, So I don't I mean,
I don't know. Again, maybe he's made a ton of
money at Texas A and M, and he's got eight

(05:14):
million dollars or more in the bank.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
Well, his last year he made four plus million in
ANIL and his first year with the Bengals would be
about five million, you know, was what he'd make.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Okay, So maybe maybe he doesn't need money. Maybe he didn't.
Maybe he didn't want to go to Cincinnati, but you're
still walking away. If you don't, you're still six or
seven million dollars upside down before next year's draft with whomever.
And that you're assuming I don't know anything about next
year's draft in terms of is it a great draft

(05:43):
for edge guys? I mean, who knows. It's a much
better draft for quarterbacks. So when it when it, When
you had that, it stands to reason that the quarterbacks
are going to go higher than the first pick and
then way down the list, and that will bounce bump
some good positional players down a bit. I just I
would arne jeam just to think about, you know.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
The National Weather Service in Denver has issued a tornado
warning for northwestern Adams County in northeastern Colorado until four
thirty pm. At four ten pm mountain daylight time plus
a view of thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was
located over lap BUIS for twenty one miles northeast of Denver,
moving northeast at fifteen miles an hour. Hazard tornado source

(06:46):
radar indicated rotation intact expects damage to mobile homes, roofs,
and vehicles. Locations intacted include Brighton moved to an interior
room on the lad lowest floor of a well built building,
away from windows. If you are outdoors in a mobile
home or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial

(07:09):
shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
More interested in arguing than winning games, the mindset for
Stuart and his agent, I guess would be if we
sign this thing, then that's going to open the possible
floodgates for not only the Bengals, but other teams to
try to put similar language into contracts and say, hey, see,
we've had players that are doing this.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
But I'd like to know, and I don't think we
know what what What is the specific language?

Speaker 1 (07:45):
What is the Any violation of any anything in the contract,
both both from a team standpoint and from an NFL standpoint,
would void any and all future guarantees in the contract
while still subjecting you to the contract.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Right, So what what I mean? What does that mean?

Speaker 1 (07:58):
Any any care to violations called conduct violations, any any
violation in that in that they probably have to be
specifically sold out by the NFL, would and the team.
But then I'm not I'm not gonna listen all that.
But it's if you violate the NFL substance abuse policy.
Let's just say so, if you so in his first year,
let's just say player A.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Let's not say Schamar Player A signed a contract and
then violated it with substance abuse policy, it would he'd
have to give back his bonus.

Speaker 1 (08:27):
He would forfeit all future any future guaranteed money. You
don't have to give anything back, but anything that is
not anything that at that point is still guaranteed to
you but you have not received, would be forfeitual Listen,
it wouldn't be guaranteed.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
He's not If that's what what the language is, likely
he is not the first guy that has ever signed
a contract like that, right, that is not the first
contracted last year. Yeah, so, I I mean, I don't know.
I can see where the player would not want to
sign that, and I can see where the team, given

(09:00):
how things are today, would probably want some sort of
assurance like hey, listen, you know you can there's certain
things you cannot get engaged with and have guaranteed money
in the back end of this deal.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
Yeah, is there any reason why the Broncos haven't gotten
theres done yet?

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Well, but there's framework on all that. They're they're there,
they know what it is.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
Just generally, when it comes down to it, there's an
order in which guys signed and then you, you know,
you sign your years after the guy.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Before you did.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
And because Baron is only one of three now, yeah,
and it's it's it's one of those things. There's they're
they're gonna be fine, They'll be absolutely fine.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
I understand that. I'm just asking why why has it
not been done? Just the waiting on the they were
waiting on what's his face?

Speaker 1 (09:41):
We just signed and now the Stewart situation all that,
I think Baron wants a fully guaranteed deal across the
board with no you know, no offset language, and so
they're you know, that's just the thing.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
You just kind of let's become more of a thing.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
And that's all.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
The second rounders actually signed fully guaranteed deals as well.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
And you're generally where it's at now.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
It's already crept in the second round, you know, like
you just at the end of the day, you know,
I think with Baron especially, I don't think you have
to worry about any off field with that guy. I
think you agree. I think you just fully guarantee it
don't even look back. I was so impressed by him.
I feel like that's just the way you did.

Speaker 3 (10:12):
And from the team standpoint, they're fully guaranteed. Even though
Barons first round draft choice, it's a rookie deal. You know,
the issue will be on the second right contract.

Speaker 1 (10:22):
And again, the only the only hold up in a
lot of these things is with guaranteed money, you have
to put that cash in escrow within two weeks. Even
if it's guaranteed four years down the road, that money's
gotta be cash in escrow.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
So I just save this Broncos a little bit of money.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
Right now, we want to go to Rob Dawson really
quick here because we have some weather news that he
wants to right here.

Speaker 5 (10:41):
Yeah, Ryan, this is what we just heard, but just
a little bit more detail. There's a tornado warning in
effect for northwestern Adams County until four point thirty. For
another fifteen minutes or so. This storm was seen over
Lockbooy has the potential to become a tornado, but right
now now it's still a severe thunderstorm and it is

(11:02):
moving towards the northeast at fifteen miles per hour.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
But the other thing about this location.

Speaker 5 (11:07):
It is a little bit north of da so where
the annex part of Denver is. That's where the tornado
warning is right now, just north of that area.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
So until four thirty.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
Again, a tornado warning in effect for northwestern Adams County.
And this was spotted over Lockbooy. It's moving to the
northeast of fifteen miles per hour. We'll keep you posted, all.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Right, appreciate it, Rob, thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (11:30):
And again you'll have updates throughout the afternoon during the
Rockies game for all of that as well. So keep
it locked here on Kaway. We got the NBA Finals
back at action tonight. Talk about that for a few
minutes before we get to show me the money. Dave,
you are a bullish on the thunderstill winning this series
in part because of the.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Well the bet you have with Ben.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
Let's just call it what it is.

Speaker 2 (11:51):
Yeah, how about tonight? You kind of need tonight?

Speaker 3 (11:57):
I think, yeah, yeah, I think the Thunder win tonight.
But again, as you and I talked Ryan yesterday, I
mean I have been I have been really impressed with
how Indiana has played and they have they have they
have made a really good defensive team. Look at times

(12:18):
like they're not a really good defensive team. So I
think I think the key tonight, or one of the
keys will be I mean, I think Oak City has
to play it a little bit faster pace, which means
maybe that Sga has to get a few more minutes
off the court earlier because you're gonna need him down

(12:38):
the stretch. I still think Oak City is a better team,
and I think they'll find a way to win tonight.
Now six is a lot, or's six and a half,
whatever it is, but I do think I think Oklahoma
City will find a way to win tonight.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
You know, Ben, you just said something a while back
that I found kind of interesting.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
You said that this is a bad matchup for the Thunder,
which up until this point I thought the Nuggets were
kind of a bad matchup for the Thunder. They were
certainly not a bad matchup for minnesot Timberwolves for not
a bad matchup for him. No, and the Nuggets were
a bad matchup for the Thunder in terms of matchups,
but they just didn't have a depth, you know, in
the end. I mean that that's just the problem that Indiana.

(13:24):
Indiana started the season ten and fifteen and a large
part of this because you had three major players on
that team that were hurt, they were unhealthy, were they
They've been the second best team in basketball since February.
They are a very good basketball team, and they're very deep,
and they've got enough bodies to stay with Okac. Okase
likes to run you out the gym in the third quarter,
rotating all their bodies through. Well, you know, Indiana can
sustain that, and we've seen that outside of that Game

(13:47):
two blowout where you know, okay See was wired to
wire on top of them. I mean, we've seen Indiana
with stand that third quarter punch that Okase has and
they've been able to, you know, to get their fourth
quarters in there and be the team that they want
to be deep with a lot of energy in the four.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Of course, I think Indiana is gonna win to night.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
I think Okac wins the next game and I think
goes back to okc uh with with the Pacers up.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Three two wins tonight, that's three to one, that's three
to one.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
They go back to Oak City three to go back
to Indiana.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Sorry, that's what I'm Yeah, absolutely, I think.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
And we talked about this too. I think Rick carlole Is,
I don't know how you're underrated as an NBA coach.
If if you've taken one franchise to uh the championship
and now your two wins away from taking another franchise
to a championship, they're just really well coached, and they've
got guys that are not afraid to shoot the ball,

(14:41):
and you got a lot of them. And so this
is going to be There's going to be a period
in this game, I think in the second half tonight
where I think Oak City will be ahead and Indiana
has shown an ability fairly I mean, I mean just
an unbelievable ability to withstand and show resilience and then

(15:01):
find a way to get back into it.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
So Scott Foster refereeing Tonight's so hammer over the over, Yeah,
the over. Somebody already texts that is says, okay, see
it'll blowout tonight. Book at Scott Foster and the home
team with Scott Foster.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
Scott, I mean, I you know what, I know exactly
who Scott Foster is. But so he would hammerly over
because why he's gonna call a lot of fowls.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
Yeah, Well, he goes a lot of fowls generally in
the vicinity of forty per game one.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
One thing that I I've noticed about Scott Foster there
will be two or three periods tonight where it's some
sort of dramatic intervention and he's at the desk giving
us a very long soliloquy about what he just called.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Nobody loves him the camera like Scott Foster loves him
the camera. Yeah, you're right, man, It's like like, here's FaceTime.
But he's kind of like you should him a good
side here on Scott Foster this season thirty four seventeen
and two on overs. Oh my gosh, Wow, I worry
a little bit because you keep doing these mind games

(16:03):
as you and I are bold me is showing the mine.
We'd never you keep doing these mind games. They come
to you and you're like, all right, give me the
pacers in the under Yeah. You guys who are pretty
much gonna battle it out Tony we are. I mean,
I'm assuming he has something different than I do. He
could he could be playing for the tie.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
He only wait only way that that will not be
the cases if you guys both pick the same thing,
right and then I go opposite on both things, and
I tie and I hit them both. Is that what
you'd like to know? I'm not gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
I can have it all right, let's get to it.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
Showing the money presented by a Maristar casino resort in Blackhawks.
You want stop destination for gaming, dining, lodging and entertainment.
Thunder at the Pacers Thunder favored by six and a
half over under two twenty seven and a half. Do
we have Nick Ferguson's pick?

Speaker 4 (16:47):
We do not?

Speaker 1 (16:47):
Okay, Well, Ben, Pacers don't even need the points, and
and give me the over.

Speaker 4 (16:52):
The over.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Pacers. I don't, So Ben gets no points.

Speaker 2 (16:57):
PACER's money line and the over Okay, geez, Ryan.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
Pacers money line, and.

Speaker 2 (17:07):
So miserable because you're gonna take the same thing I
wasna take anything like a coward. Well, I'm not gonna
see that. You're you're your baby. Give me the Thunder
minus six and a half and give me the over
the over. Thank you for the win, appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
So the only way that the only way that one
of you guys doesn't win is if it goes under.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
It has to go under, yes, and then we know, yeah,
it goes under over. Yeah, he one of this is
gonna win, so we're gonna have a winner. Yeah, we're
gonna have a winner.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
So I really don't need to pick.

Speaker 2 (17:42):
To hear you, what do you honestly think?

Speaker 3 (17:44):
What do you think I would take?

Speaker 4 (17:51):
God?

Speaker 3 (17:53):
I would take the Pacers plus the points, but I
think Oak City wins. Uh, And I too would go
Scott Foster the over with.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Lou Door Will Lou, God of the Big Game, the
human dors the Dorcher Chamber.

Speaker 2 (18:08):
When he hits those threes tonight, that's gonna feel.

Speaker 1 (18:11):
High rainbow shot from the like just sit there shaking
your head every time.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
The rafters.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
It's a lot of fun. Thank you, Zach Seager's great
job this week. Thank you for being in Dave. Have
a happy Father's Day, my friend. Appreciate you guys,
