Speaker 1 (00:00):
Are you, Dave Logan, Ryan Edwards, Bitchamin Albright Instudio, Hi,
(00:04):
Ben present, Good to see you man.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
It accounted for for a Dave my friend. Good to
see you here as well. Yeah, see you.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
I'm doing I'm I'm still a little groggy from staying
up late last night watching Nikolay.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Watch the whole thing I did. I did for you.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Yeah, right, and it was like obviously in the fourth quarters,
you know it's done.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
But I mean he's.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Fifty five points any good.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
I mean, you know, I just thrown it out there.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Maybe with enough time we'll see if he I mean
I I and I've said this before. I hope Nuggets
fans are appreciating this guy because I mean, the phrase
generational talent is thrown around a lot, but in this
case appropriately so for him. We will never see another
(00:54):
Nicola Jokic.
Speaker 2 (00:55):
I mean, he's on the path.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
And you know, you don't get too hyperbolic, you.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Want to be in the moment, but goad, but.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
He's on the path to being the greatest Denver athlete.
I mean really like, I mean hard to argue with
you get into it. I mean, what John Elway would
have been like untouchable for the longest time for me.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
Yep, I think he's got to win multiple championships to
get to that conversation. But otherwise on his own as
an individual athlete, Yeah, I mean.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
My goodness, in this six game win streak, and of
course another first in NBA history kind of situation, which
is always great to see. This he's the first player
in NBA history during the six game win streak to
average a thirty five point triple double while shooting sixty
or better across these games.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Yeah, I mean, it's you. You really just can't describe
it anymore. And and you, if you're not careful, you
start to take it for granted. You see it and
it's like, wow, that's just yolkicch huh. But then when
you look at the numbers, it's like, wait, what fitty
five points? And I mean, he's just he's an unbelievable
basketball player.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
And I like this.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
And I know it's early in the season and still,
you know, doing doing Bronco games and watching the NFL,
so I haven't completely immersed myself into the NBA. But
what I've seen, I like this team. I think I
think the Nuggets can make a real run at this thing.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
A little banged up coming off that game.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
You got was a Christian Brown left Cam Johnson as
well left, so.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Left with an elbow. Yeah, I heard his elbow.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Yeah, and then was an ankle thing for Christian Brown
something like that. I think, so yeah, so well, well
we're still waiting on information on that. But no, I mean,
listen to they have some great depths. I love what
they do with the bench in the offseason. There's really
a lot to like in the fact that he's able
to do all this last night. And I mean, again,
they won the game handily, but he did it all
in what's like thirty four minutes something like that.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
I mean, it's that's.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
That's the key, and that's the thing we talked about
last year specifically, is like, hey, this is a good team.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
It's a very good team.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
They're going to go deep into the playoffs, but the
wear and tear early on is going to be a proper.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
He's averaging like low thirties though, yes, like thirty last
look like thirty two maybe thirty three minutes.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Way Ill look that up, but I think that sounds
right off the top of my head. But yeah, that's
that's truly remarkable. Yeah you did that last night with
thirty four minutes this month, Yeah, thirty three minutes, thirty
four and a half last month, so yeah, right around there. Anyways,
very impressive stuff. We have Evan ingram on here in
just a matter of moments. A big week obviously for
the Broncos and the Chiefs. I watched quite a bit
(03:23):
of that Broncos sorry, the Chiefs Bills game.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Uh, from a couple of weeks ago. I'm telling you what,
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Maybe I'm I'm drinking the kool aid, but I'm pretty
optimistic about the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
Chances in this game. Okay, well you just don't. You
don't see it at all.
Speaker 5 (03:39):
Those are not similar offenses at all.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
I didn't say it was a similar offenseo in Denver.
I'm saying that there's similar ways you can attack. Oh,
I mean there are her are we gonna do that.
Speaker 5 (03:48):
We're gonna throw fifty screen passes and you know, have
a bunch of outsides on for j Harvey.
Speaker 2 (03:52):
I'll hurt you, will hurts you, John Peyton. That's me
joining Vampire.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Day were you and the sky Mode like like then
when you come to your optimism about this game. No,
but I'm also I think realistic.
Speaker 3 (04:11):
Now I'm not saying they can't, but I am saying
the Broncos offense has to play a lot better for
them to have a chance to win this game in Sunday.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
I think they can.
Speaker 3 (04:20):
I do think the defense can be disruptive with with Mahomes.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
I mean they have, they.
Speaker 3 (04:25):
Still have had problems protecting Patrick Mahomes, and I would
submit that they haven't. I don't have a chief schedule
in front of me, but I don't think they've played
a defense like the Broncos. You would imagine here in altitude,
I would think everybody will be a tad bit revved up. Yeah,
I think the Broncos absolutely have a chance to win
this game, but the offense has got to show sign
(04:49):
I think they can, but they've got to show signs
early in this game that they're able to knock out
a few first downs. They don't have to drive eighty
yards every time they get it and score, you know,
but they've got and knock got a few first downs,
hit a couple of big plays, punt the ball when
they need to, and then go play good defense and
be in the game. And I think one of the
(05:10):
ways that you can add to the excitement level, which
will already be high, is for the offense to get
off to a quicker start. I mean, can you imagine
if the offense, you know, the first time they had
the football, drove the ball down the field and scored. Well,
everybody is going to be able to take a huge
sort of sigh of relief, from players to coaches to
(05:32):
seventy some odd thousand fans.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
Got to run the ball. I mean, just a couple
of days ago, talk about how how do you run it? Well,
that's where I wondered. This LJ move, this Littlejo Humphrey
move kind of comes in to effect.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
You're gonna have him run the ball? No, no, no, that's
all In the first second, I thought your flannel shirt
was buttoned a little bit too tight two days in
a row.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
So no, it is the blocking, right, and and what
makes for a good run blocking is more than just
your offensive line.
Speaker 4 (06:05):
It's also the recei and as a commitment to it.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
And that's one of the things that he does at
a very high level, at least for he did for
this team.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
They really liked him.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Yeah, and also to me the creativity of the run game.
I'm anxious to see what that looks like on Sunday.
You know, Dobbins is out Dobbins. Dobbins can make a
lot of runs that might not be whether correctly blocked
or the right call against that front or whatever. Dobbins
(06:35):
can make some of those things. He can mitigate those things.
Speaker 6 (06:41):
R J.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Harvey is I think going to be a good player,
but we haven't had a chance to see him. I've
seen flashes of him patiently waiting, but again, how they
try to run the ball. To me, that's going to
be something I'm really going to focus on.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Well' And that's exactly I mean.
Speaker 5 (06:59):
Dobbins is such a patient, such a great vision, such
a patient runner back there reminds you of not the
same player, but it reminds you living await Leftbell used
to just sit back there, just let the blocks set up.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
And read it correctly and what to do.
Speaker 6 (07:10):
RJ.
Speaker 5 (07:10):
You know, phenomenally talented athlete, but certainly has not exhibited
that patient so far.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
I'd be interesting to see.
Speaker 5 (07:16):
I think you probably feature him on outside Zone or
you know, some of that kind of stuff instead of
what it is that you're normally doing with Dobbins early on,
but we'll see I don't.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
I mean, well, I.
Speaker 1 (07:25):
Don't overthink it here, but I do think that there's
something to the limited amount of reps he has received
in the running game.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
Maybe a value there, So like as JK.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Dobbins has over one hundred and fifty rushes so far
in the season, where it's like a little over fifty
for RJ. Harvey, And you're right, a lot of that
is bouncing it outside, right, that they've been trying to
get him out in space and give him an opportunity
to break some of these longer runs.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
But do you think about in terms.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
Of how many times they actually have run him between
the tackles, it's probably pretty limited. I mean, especially if
it's only fifty carries, is getting like two or three
a game. I wonder if there's an advantage there the
fact that the Chiefs haven't seen it.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
I mean, I don't know, I are you dis missed
everything I say today?
Speaker 5 (08:09):
Or just like I don't know that there's any I
mean that you've got the same tape.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
You know, you get to the you've seen what he does.
Speaker 5 (08:15):
I don't, I mean, maybe there's less wear and tear
and he's you know, he's fresher at this point in
the season. But I don't I don't know that there's
I don't know there's any event.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
I mean, there's no hiding somebody. Once you've done something.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
It's on tape in the NFL, like, I don't you know,
it's not really I don't know that you have a
sneak attack there or what they seemed like that's what
you're suggesting.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
I do not so much sneak attack.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
It's just a limited reps and an opportunity to uh,
to show something that you haven't necessarily put a ton
of film on.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
I'd love to.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
I mean, you know, the key to beating Kansas City
and Spag's defense over the last couple of years is
wearing at those is wearing at the ends by running
directly at him early.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
You know, let's see if they'll they'll do that.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
The other thing is that the rushing attack that had
the best success was Baltimore because he had Lamar open
it up lanes. Maybe you get bold a few carries
early on, or you know, if you read option plays
to open some stuff up.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
By the way, Dave, you were when you said that
they run Dobbins a lot more in the second half
in the first half. Did you know specifically how big
of a difference that is second half?
Speaker 2 (09:08):
First?
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Now, No, but I you know, I've called every game, Yeah,
so I know, just calling the games, I know Dobbins
gets it a lot more in the second half.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
It's two to one.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Basically, ninety seven carries in the second half versus fifty
six in the first half.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
Two to one. I mean, that's startling.
Speaker 1 (09:29):
When we talk about the most important player, and you
said it yesterday, if there were if you were going
to tick off the names of the most important players
for what the Broncos are trying to do weekend and
week out, Aster Tanga would be on that list.
Speaker 6 (09:40):
JK.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Dobbins would be one of the top guys on that list.
And the fact that he's hitting half the amount of
carries in the first half as he is in the
second half is startling.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
Yeah. I don't have a good answer for that. I
think that again.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
I mean, Sean Payton didn't just fall off the turnip truck, right,
I mean this this has been a guy that's been
pretty successful over the years at creating offense.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
So to me, this is this game.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
I want to I want to see what he has
in mind. I want to see how he attacks this
Chiefs defense, and especially given the fact that his offense
has struggled to gain traction. And you've got a quarterback that,
you know, in my book, looks unsettled. I think in
anybody who follows football, if you went back and looked
(10:36):
at him, he looks he looks unsettled. Okay, well, I
mean the coach's job is to get him settled.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
How do you do that? It's it's not.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
As simple as saying, hey, you know it's settled down,
everything's going to be okay. You've got to create ways
to get him settled. So I'm i and I think
I think Peyton's up to it. So I'm anxious to see.
I I don't you know, with Dobbin's out, that's a
big lock. With certain out, that's a big loss you're
going to be you know your Singleton's going to be out.
So but I still think the Broncos can find a
(11:09):
way to win, and a lot of that is going
to depend on what that game plan looks like.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
Offensively, let me.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Ask you quickly about Singleton, and we're Evan Ingram joining
us here in a matter of moments. So listening to Vance,
Joseph talked about him, Today's the green dot guy? Who's
the green dot guy this week? I mean, who's it
going to be? Who do I think it would be?
Speaker 6 (11:31):
Well?
Speaker 1 (11:32):
I mean, if you know, that'd be great. But if
you do, you think would you would? Who would you
give the green dots?
Speaker 6 (11:36):
You?
Speaker 2 (11:36):
How about we start there?
Speaker 3 (11:39):
I would give the green dot if I felt like
he was completely completely up to speed in the calls,
I'd give it to Dre.
Speaker 2 (11:49):
They love Dre like the team loves I do.
Speaker 6 (11:52):
Well.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
He's I mean, I've said this before.
Speaker 3 (11:56):
In a league full of really good athletes and defensively
big time pass rushers and corners and safeties that will
hit you, he's just he's different. And there are handfuls
of guys around the league thirty two teams and fifty
three guys active, but they're handfuls of guys and he's
(12:16):
one of them that when he he can impact a
game from a physical standpoint. You've seen guys impact games
from an athletic standpoint, and not say he's not athletic,
but Drake can impact a game from a physical standpoint,
and not a lot of guys in the league I
would put in that category.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yeah, I tend to agree.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
I might look at Tofongar Jones for the green dot,
but I mean green Law get it.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
I mean I would totally get doing it.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
I mean both those guys would be capable. I would
hesitate a little bit. Maybe it's just old school stuff.
The back end of your defense all the way up
to the front.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Would would I don't know.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
Well, greenlawuld have play one hundred percents and he's sixty
two was as high this last week.
Speaker 3 (12:59):
Yeah, so well, you know what if he's healthy, time
to take the what do they say, the baby wheels off,
let's roll the cart down.
Speaker 2 (13:07):
The hill and got the gunning amps to take the
papers off. Yeah, Larry Johnson.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
Now maybe maybe they're maybe they want to continue to
ramp him up a little bit. I mean I wouldn't
do that at the risk of, you know, something goes
wrong down the stretch, because you're going to need that
guy down the stretch.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
So if you have a plan that you put in place.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
When dra came back, and it's going to be this, this, this,
and ramp him up and up and up and up,
and you think, like in week fourteen, he's going to
be full speed and you're gonna gonna had the last
four weeks and then the play. Okay, I get that.
Then may maybe it's straor not if if that's the case, so.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
We did text in here.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
We have one of the two top worst officiating crews
on Sunday, which sucks.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Who do we have?
Speaker 1 (13:46):
We have Adrian Hill this week and he is four
and oh in chiefs games. I don't know if that
matters at all, including three and o on the road.
Speaker 2 (13:57):
Wow, yeah, who can piles?
Speaker 3 (14:00):
I'm asking for a friend who compiles those stats.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
I know the league doesn't.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
There's a guy on Twitter that that sends me the
stuff every single les. Yeah, he's been doing I told
him to take you know, he's been sending me this
stuff for years.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
He sent me every ref crew, all the calls. Well
how does he? I mean, seriously, I'm asking goes the.
Speaker 5 (14:17):
Football Reference and scrapes the website and gets all you
know it does, all the calls, has all the date
on all this stuff.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Wow. Yeah, how's his golf game? I can ask him
right now. Yeah, since he's got to be a busy
man during football.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Yeah, divisional home teams are thirteen and sixteen in Adrian
Hill's career, and divisional home underdogs are seven and nine
against the spread.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Well that doesn't sound be good so great, doesn't Yeah
not at all?
Speaker 1 (14:43):
And uh seventy to two on the under in case
that matters to some people out there, eighteen ten and
one to the undering career divisional games. So yeah, this
is this guy just kind of laid out all these stats.
He leans heavy on offensive holding and false start penalty
eyes Number One'll be oopis are really big for his crew.
So I mean, listen, it's something you probably have to
(15:05):
pay attention to if your coaching staff, isn't it Okay, who's.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
Try think that's something you will remind your team of
for sure, because it's it's another form of analytics that
you want to use to your advantage. And if if
an officiating crew has sort of a predisposition to looking
at in this case opis and maybe you know they've
called more opis than other officiating crews, well sure, I
(15:31):
want to make my receivers aware, like, hey, make make
certain now we're we're not extending our arms. We don't
have the palm of our hand up into the framework
of the body. When we try to separate, you know,
separate with a flipper, you separate with the with the
back of your hand down low. There's all sorts of
little things. And I would imagine though that we're mind
most players.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
It's it's tough, Like I do think it absolutely matters
in the context of the conversation about any team in
any game specifically, But and it's only because it's the Chiefs.
Like if this was any other game, I probably would
be like, oh, I mean, this is something to file away.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
But it's the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (16:06):
And there's so many times how we over the years
we've talked about the Chiefs as a relationship to calls,
the key moments that they somehow get. Now this year
isn't that year. They have not gotten those their own
four and one score games. And you know they have
looked better. I mean, getting Rachie Rice back is huge,
and there's no denying how much better that offense looks
with him out there.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
They're com missing as a pachecko in this game.
Speaker 1 (16:28):
And you know they're they're coming off of a bye
after they lost to the Buffalo Bills and Patrick Mahomes
really struggled in that game.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
Yeah, I would say the Chiefs are not going to
come in here and try to establish the run. So Pacheco,
while a really good player, I think his his loss
or his absence in this game will will not be
a huge factor for Kansas City. I think Kansas City
comes in and they throw getting off the bus and
the ball comes out of Patrick Mahomes's hands very quickly.
(16:59):
They try to identify because Denver is you know from
time to time they've been in some man.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Coverage, so you'll have motion before the ball is.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
Snapped, so that fifteen can look at and try to
identify what coverage the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Are going to be in.
Speaker 3 (17:16):
Vans will come up with ways where you can pass
off the motion to make it look like maybe you're
playing man and then you get some form of zone.
What the Broncos want to do defensively, I think what
would be important for them to do is create a
little bit of hesitation with Mahomes early in the game,
Like pre snap, I think it's this post snap, Wait
a minute, it's not that. So therefore I've got to
(17:39):
get off the first or second read that I thought
to the left. I've got to come over here to
the zone beater. Well, even the great ones that he
is that takes a little bit longer and a little
bit longer against this defense can result in pressures, passes,
hits on the quarterback and ultimately and that's what this
(18:00):
Denver defense has to do.
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Yeah, Chiefs.
Speaker 5 (18:03):
The Chiefs don't run to establish a right run on
second down to make it manageable on third and they
run assaulted away and.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
You're gonna advance. Is gonna have to get outside his comfort.
Speaker 5 (18:10):
Zone a little bit because the key or at least
the key it seems like to slow Pat mahomes down
has been you know two high or four high, you
know quarters t six.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Too high, Vic Fangio defense.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
Dick had the best success and Sean McDermott had the
best success and both that's what both those guys are on.
It is he the two four to six you know,
cover shells and forcing him to take the underneath stuff,
which you know he tends to get.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
Frustrated with himself and want to press the deep ball.
Speaker 5 (18:31):
So we'll see if Fans gets outside what he normally
does and goes to that because Vances kind of lives
in one High or Robert you know, stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (18:38):
So I do feel like over the last couple of
years have watched they've been running the red zone a
little bit more, especially in Golden Gost situations like whether
it's Kareem Hunt or they had a hand off to
Racie Rice in this last game and they line.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
Him up in the backfield. He's the joker.
Speaker 3 (18:51):
To me, Oh yeah, Rice is the guy that And
I don't think I realized it, but watching Kansas City
a little bit on tape this year, I mean, he's
a receiver and yet boy he is good after the
catch and you can run him on jet sweeps. He's
he's put together. He's got, he's got. He's not quite
like Debo or Percy.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Harvin reminds me of him though, little bit he's got
a little bit of that stuff in his game. Yeah,
and he's kind of built thicker. That's what a little
bit of that stuff, that's that's what that means.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Okay, well you did do the hand motion side of that.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
Absolutely. I love roll.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
Evan Ingram is going to join us next on the
other side, so to stick around for that, we'll write back. Okay, now,
We're heading out to the ka Common Spirit Health Hotline
and bring on Broncos starting tight end. Evan Ingram. Evan,
you're on with Ryan Edwards, Benjamin Albright and Ryan Edwards.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
How are you sorry? Dave Logan?
Speaker 1 (19:52):
I try You're on Dave Logan right Edwards of Benjamin Albright.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
Sorry, that's okay, that's on me.
Speaker 6 (19:58):
That's on me.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Evan, thank you so much for the time. How are you?
Speaker 6 (20:01):
I'm doing great, man, Glad to be on here. How
a y'all doing?
Speaker 2 (20:04):
We're doing, We're doing good. I appreciate the time.
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Obviously, a big, big game coming up for you guys,
and we all know what the chiefs are about. When
you guys have played well at home, you haven't lost
the game, the offense hasn't sort of got untracked a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
You've been in this league long enough to see ups
and downs.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
What if anything, can a veteran leader like yourself impart
the guys in terms of this part of the season
and how to approach the remaining games.
Speaker 6 (20:33):
Yeah, I think it's I think it's all about kind
of staying the course. I love I love the stand
that we have here. I love the way we work
We're always chasing improvement, and we understand how hard it
is to win in this league. So at the end
of the day, we have to continue to get better
and chase improvement. But when it comes down to the
moment each Sunday, we got to get the job done,
(20:54):
however it looks, however it gets done. As long as
you walk off with the field with a w that's
that's the goal. So, uh, we just got to continue.
Like I said, takes improvement, be able to look ourselves
in the mirror and see the things that we can
improve and work on those things and then execute when
it comes to it.
Speaker 5 (21:11):
How hard is it to stay you know, dialed into
the moment. You've read off eight of those wins you
talked about. The two losses have all been you know,
last second type losses. How difficult is it to stay
dialed into the moment with those type levels of success.
Speaker 6 (21:25):
Yeah, I like we have great leadership here and even
on the offensive side of the ball, where you know,
we don't take any moment for granted, We don't take
any any opportunity lightly. And also we we try to
stay away from complacency, so we're we're always ready, We're
always locked in and we understand that nothing is given
(21:47):
to us, so you have to have that mentality to
go out and take what we want and that kind
of keeps us locked in and focused and hungry for
achiever more.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
You've playing a lot of football now in this era
of Chiefs football. What is it about this team that
has been able to sustain such a high level of success.
Speaker 6 (22:06):
Yeah, I mean over the you look at them over
the years. Uh, just they just know how to win.
Each game is in a blowout or they're not, you know,
dog walking teams. Nobody really does that in the league.
But you get to that last five seven to five
minutes of a football game, and you know, those guys
just know how to finish and win. And you know,
the two roles speak for themselves, and obviously the quarterback
(22:30):
play and what they can do on offense and then
Spags on defense all the things that they do. So
they I mean, they've built a great team, They've built
a great organization and uh but they just they just
know how to win. And that's gonna, you know, that's
gonna give us all own challenges when we see them.
Speaker 3 (22:44):
The Sunday you mentioned Spags, the defensive coordator Steve Spagnola
of the Chiefs. When when you guys preparing for this
week and you see some of the stuff that Kansas
City does, talk a little bit about what you see,
I know, a mirry of pressures and stuff that maybe
not every single team does. But what what couple of
(23:06):
things do you see that impress you most about Kansas
City's defense?
Speaker 6 (23:10):
Yeah, I just I think just the way that they
fly around, honestly, all the different looks that they present,
the speed and the disguises and the pressures and and
really just the tenacity that they play with. And uh,
it just you could just tell that they just they're
just a very confident group. Uh and uh and you
(23:30):
know coach uh, you know, Spags, he draws up a
lot of different crazy things and it's it's a headache
sometimes to be able to decipher and see and break down.
I'm in the moment on the field. So yeah, they
got a great system over there, and uh, you know,
this week is probably the biggest preparational week that we've
(23:51):
had as far as we're trying to prepare for all
the things that they do.
Speaker 5 (23:54):
You know, you guys get to go up against the
best of the best in practice every day.
Speaker 2 (23:57):
Do you think that prepares you for games like this
a little bit better?
Speaker 6 (24:01):
Oh yeah, no doubt, even even just going against those
guys all training camp and and you know whenever we
do have compete periods here in practice, uh, we definitely
never take that opportunity lightly because you know, we do
get the practice against the best and obviously Ironsart the Zion,
So yeah, we definitely try to take advantage of that.
Speaker 2 (24:23):
Evan Ingram joining us last one for me.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
You guys had a mini buy here and a lot
has been covered about the kind of grueling schedule to
start the year, including a trip out to London, no
bye week afterwards. Did the many buy maybe help give
you guys a bit of a reset here before you
hit the final stretch of games?
Speaker 6 (24:41):
For sure, anytime you can get some good time off
after a good win and a good a good ten
week first ten weeks to the season, it's definitely definitely
good for the for the body and the mind. Uh.
But you know, like I said, we have great leadership here,
a lot of great professionals that know how to have
how to have the right time off. And then I'll
(25:02):
come back to work ready to go so definitely was.
It was a great break this weekend and looking forward
to getting after it, getting back after It's awesome.
Speaker 1 (25:10):
Evan, thank you so much for the time, really appreciated.
Best of luck on Sunday and for the remainder of
the year.
Speaker 6 (25:14):
Man. Yeah, thank you guys.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
Thanks Evan, all right.
Speaker 1 (25:17):
Evan Ingram tightands were a really big deal for the
Buffalo Bills versus the Chiefs. Dalton Kincaid six catches for
one hundred and one yards, Dawston Knox had the one
catch for thirty yards. But they really had a tough
time covering tight ends against the Chiefs a couple.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
Of weeks ago against the Bills. Yeah, Bills against the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Bill's offense versus the Chiefs defense had a time tight ends.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
I'm not framing that, that's sorry.
Speaker 3 (25:44):
Yeah, I mean tight ends have tight ends have have
been pretty good against Kansas City's defense, I think again,
and Evan mentioned it this. This coordinator is a guy
that loves to present all sorts of different looks in
different pressures, really creative. But he does that when he
feels like he has the ability to really disrupt that
(26:10):
offense is rhythm. The challenge I think again, it's really simple.
Sean Payton has to come up with a way to
get that quarterback. Bo Nicks settle down a little bit
and be able to move the ball some and in
a creative way has some success running. This team needs
some offensively, needs some success early in the game, right,
(26:33):
so the confidence level increases. You play better when you
think you're pretty good, right, And you don't play as
well when you're out there thinking, oh man, I'm sure
as hell hope we don't go three and out again,
and then hear it from the home crowd and then
you shank a pun and then all of a sudden,
it's like the body language just like it just completely
(26:54):
takes over the sideline. So more so than any game
this year, I think it's import important that they create
some things that gives this offense and bo Nicks some
confidence that even if they don't score, you knock out
a few first downs and then punt it, you feel like, okay,
you know what, there's some things we can do and
(27:15):
have some success in doing them.
Speaker 5 (27:17):
Why not and I suggest, why do some read option
stuff for bow early? If he's wound up, then you
know he's wound up. Coming into games and he's throwing
the ball high, you know, start, we see you know,
we see a little amps.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Why not run him?
Speaker 5 (27:27):
Why not run some maybe option stuff early until he
gets settled down.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Maybe.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
I'm I think at this point, you're you're you're going
to do almost anything that just gives you a little
bit of success.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
I mean, is there something to playing up to or
down to an opponent's I mean, is there something to
not overlooking the Raiders but just saying, well, the Raiders
on paper are what they are and what we think
we can you know, we we we're not gonna put
a full game plan together for this anyways. And then
you have the Chiefs, where you have about a week
and a half to prepare for him. Now we know
what Andy Reid's record is and all that. But I'm
just saying for the Broncos side of this thing, they've
(28:00):
week and a half to prepare for the Chiefs. They
know the importance of this game. I mean, I imagine
the effort level will match that.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
I would hope. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (28:09):
No, I have no doubt that the team's going to
come out and play hard. I mean they're going to
come out and go at them. But again, it gets
back to a confidence level that the offense has not had.
And I think there is something at times and drives
NFL coaches coaches in general crazy when teams play up
and down to the competition they play. That said, I
(28:30):
don't think that was the case against the Raiders. Now,
maybe short week and maybe some fatigue, and I mean
this team's been going at it pretty good, and I've
had a couple of players talk about the importance of
that three day break after the Thursday night game against
the Raiders, So I think I think the legs will
be fresh for Denver. But again early in this game, man,
they've got to have a little success offensively. If they do,
(28:53):
I think Denver has every every opportunity to find a
way to win this game.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Sunday at Home.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
Our interview with evandent Room brought to you by col
Radams for Responsible Energy Development, Developing carra's Energy, building Corra's Future.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Learn more at tread dot org. But to cr ed
dot org.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
We have some optimism and positivity on this show, then
they tune into your show so to feel bad about themselves.
And I think this there's a way that we could
kind of, you know, find a way to make everybody
feel balanced at the end of the day.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
That's that's the.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
Goal, looks parent, do you respect more the one that
told you that you were you were a winner or
the one that was like ghet the balls on.
Speaker 4 (29:31):
The truth is I didn't have either, so you kinda
walked into that one.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Yeah I had both those, So yeah, I was gonna say, well,
we had boomer parents.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
So that's a little a little bit of a different deal.
Speaker 1 (29:44):
The practice report for today, so some good news, so right,
Trinchuerfield got to a full practice, Jonathan Cooper remains full,
Marvin Mims full, and I actually want to go over
why I think he's gonna have a big role in
this game coming up here.
Speaker 4 (29:58):
Garret Wallow got a little full practice.
Speaker 2 (29:59):
He coming off I R.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
And John Frank Glmeyer showed up with the limited he's
got to take back. Yeah, yeah, so that that one,
you're you're not gonna want to miss him in this game.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
But everything else is as it was.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
And then Xavier Worthy the Chiefs ended up being limited
today with an ankle injury, so something to monitor there.
And you know, Vance Joseph was talking about earlier today
talking about the track team that the Chiefs have assembled.
You're one hundred percent right at least one thing. You
said multiple missives, But what specific thing here? Multiple misses
in the first second. But the first thing you should
have said was they passed to set up the pass.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
The running game is secondary.
Speaker 1 (30:38):
The only thing, like I said, I've noticed is inside
the five yard line they do. They do try to
push a little bit with the running game early on
to to see if they can get some cheap yard.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
Yeah, I don't used the They.
Speaker 5 (30:46):
Used to use the shovel pass or tyreek on that
cross So they don't do it because Hill's not there anymore,
and they don't use that shovel pass to Kelsey anymore.
So they do run at Kareem Hunt generally tends to
run the ball inside the five.
Speaker 1 (30:55):
So yeah, and then we saw this last week with
a couple of weeks ago with Rashie Rice, and again,
as David appropriately pointed out, he is really their joker.
That that's like the ideal joker right there. You line
him up with the backfield, you move him all rover
with the formation. He's running all types of routes right
whether you're gonna throw him on a crosser, you're gonna
run him deep.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
He ran a deep seam that he ended up catching
in the game.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
So he's gonna be As far as I'm concerned, I
think for most people, he's the biggest challenge.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
I mean, I know historically has been Travis Kelcey, but
he's he's not quite the same guy.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
He's still dangerous, Right, you've ignored Travis Kelcey, that's your
own peril.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
But Rice, Rice is.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
The guy, like, that's the guy to really pay attention
to in this offense.
Speaker 5 (31:35):
Yeah, you know, they'll use They'll use guys like Worthy
of Brown to take the top off and keep you
honest that way, and then they'll use you know, Kelsey
will work the middle, the short, short middle part of
the field, and Rice can do everything like he works
you know, everybody right of grass. So you know, it's
it's kind of a lot of that. Andy wants to
stretch you horizontally and vertically. It's that's something he's very
very keen on. He'll get you lean in one way
(31:57):
and then go back to the other and and that
kind of stuff. That's just that's what they want to do.
And uh, you know you mentioned the track team. It's
It kind of reminds you of those those Raiders teams
that you know that Al Davis used to have there
at the en except good.
Speaker 2 (32:11):
That might be the fun of the funniest things you've
ever said.
Speaker 1 (32:13):
Ben, It's rare, it's rare. You got you got me,
quite literally, chuging Jacobe Ford. They were Bay Darren McFadden.
Speaker 5 (32:22):
You know, the Raiders could have won the four by
one hundred every year, but they couldn't win a football game.
Speaker 1 (32:26):
It's a little different here. They they legit speed and
talents for the kids.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
They're also they can play football. We'll can hear some.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
Sound from Joe Lombardi and Sean Payton come up here
in a little bit on on starting fast. I want
to talk a little more about that today Archie Harvey
and for a bigger role.
Speaker 2 (32:41):
We'll hear some sound from Sean.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Who said something very interesting to me yesterday about specifically R. J.
Harvey and why they brought him in. I mean, they's
been used a lot more in the passing game, but
they brought him in for the run game. So we'll
get into that coming up here in a little bit. Uh.
Paul de Podesta, he had his introductory press conference today
with Walker Montfort and Dick Montfort.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
We'll get a chance to talk a little bit about that.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
But we have an exclusive interview with a Voice of
the Rockies, Jack Corrigan and Paul de Podesta that we're
gonna bring to you at five thirty tonight. So looking
forward to hearing from him. And I don't know, man,
I like what he's saying so far. One thing very
quickly that I jumped out almost immediately to me is
he talked about having a home field advantage here with
the Colorado Rockies. So from a moneyball perspective, my mind
(33:27):
is wilding on what the idea of it?
Speaker 2 (33:30):
And give us to the moneyball guy, what a home
field advantage? Because you know, hey, you bring a bunch
of guys that can break.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
Well, we've done that before and it's fun.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
I think he's referring to the pitching, and I'm wondering
if he's gonna use the strategy that I suggested was
it ten years ago? Go get a knuckleballer and four
ground ball pitchers and see what you can do.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
He seems like the guy that would do that, though,
does he not. I mean, I just I would love it.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
I would love if somehow I got to be like, hey,
you know my strategy from ten years ago that I
used to use, and then will be the show.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
You know, work in in course field, it is always
about you as it is. Yeah, met me. I mean
I can't.
Speaker 5 (34:08):
I don't get to introduce myself twice to the to
the you know, to the football player for the interview.
Speaker 1 (34:11):
But we'll see that was an accident on my part.
You do this on purpose. That's fair, that's fairy. Okay,
all right, we'll ride back, we'll talk about fast starting
fast for the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (34:20):
We'll get to the next
