Speaker 1 (00:00):
Potline and bring on number two dever broncos ps two
pastor ten.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
You're all with Date Jackson and right Evers. How are
you man?
Speaker 3 (00:08):
How good? How are you doing?
Speaker 1 (00:09):
We're doing great, so it's good to catch up with you.
And hey, man, it's Chiefs.
Speaker 2 (00:12):
Weeek.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
I know that you'd love to be out there, but unfortunately,
looks like you're not going to be playing for this game.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
First of all, how are you feeling.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
I'm feeling pretty good, man, you know, I mean, up
to schedule, feeling way better than what I was two
weeks ago. I'll tell you that. You know what I mean.
So I'm attacking the rehab process, taking the day by day,
but you know, I'm ready to get back out there
with the guys.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
Okay, Pat, you guys have the Chiefs coming up. I
know you want to be out there. You're not going
to be out there. You're gonna be on the sideline
supporting your boys. But what is it that the Chiefs do,
in particular, Patrick Mahomes that makes it that makes your
job so hard?
Speaker 2 (00:48):
On defense?
Speaker 3 (00:51):
I think they have a good ability of dictating the
game on their terms. You know, obviously throughout the game
they have a complex, a variety for the personnel's informations
that makes them tricky to stop. And I think that's
what they've done a consistent, consistently good job that is
to keep the defense on their toes. And uh, I
(01:13):
feel like with us defensively, we got to eliminate uh,
their first reads, you know, I mean, we got to
make a one dimensional uh and sort of not make
a mass pass heavy you know what I mean as
they want to be, you know, and and that all
starts with creative pressure, you know, I mean coverage, coverage
in the back end. So and you know, I think
we're the best doing it in the league. So but yeah,
(01:35):
it's it's a it's a unique type of challenge. Obviously,
you know, divisional game, a division opponent, a lot of
states ruined. But uh, I feel like, you know, that's
what they possess offensively.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
To what what did you think about the way your
secondary played the last two weeks? Again, I know you
want to be out there, but those guys I thought
really held their own. I mean, especially you know last
week Bronck Bowers was coming in off of one of
the better performance this is the season at tight end
versus Jacksonville and they shut him down one catch for
thirty one yards.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
What did you think about that?
Speaker 3 (02:07):
I mean, I think it's pretty impressive, honestly to eliminate
a type of player of his caliber like to that
type of game. So, you know what I mean, I
think these guys are always ready for the challenge, you know,
ready for the task, you know what I mean. I
believe in all of the guys in that room, you
know what I mean, because they're showing a weekend and
(02:28):
week out and you know they work art. You know
they prepare the right way throughout the week and also
you know when their name is called, you know they
be ready. So it's honestly awesome to see from my
lenses nowadays since I'm not out there, but you know,
watching it and you know, in full action on the sideline,
(02:51):
you know, it's pretty awesome to see.
Speaker 4 (02:53):
Patrick Mahomes one of the best out there to do it,
not just from the pocket on time, but when the
play breaks down, he can make some special things happen
outside the pocket. Off script, how do you guys as
a defense plan to handle that the out of the
pocket off script stuff? What are you kind of taught
to take away his options there.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
I think the biggest thing is, you know, I mean,
he lives, you know, off of second play chances, you know,
when his first read not there, second lead. You know,
he has a great ability of you know, making things
work out of nothing. And I think the thing that
we have to do well consistently in this game is,
you know, I mean, not get lack of ussaying coverage,
(03:34):
you know what I mean, because that's what he thrives
off of, especially when you make those off schedule reads
and throws and make those big time players out the field.
So it's important that us in the back end we
plaster onto receivers in our zones, you know what I mean,
We just don't drop in his zone. We look and
try to find a man why he scrambles and eliminate that.
(03:55):
So and I know we all know that's what we
need to do to eliminate that. So you know, I
feel like we're well prepared for it.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Pastor Jan joining us here, I want to ask you
about Alex Singleton, and he of course informed the team
this week about his testicular cancer diagnosis. First of all,
playing an entire game with that looming over him last Thursday,
I mean, what a warrior. And then the second thing
and just more of your thoughts on how the defense
is going to be able to work without him out there.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yeah, man, you know Alex is a warrior man. You know,
he fights every play till last minute. But also you
know in life too, you know what I mean, you
never know what somebody's really gone through, and that's a
testament to him, you know, I mean, to be as
strong as he is currently, you know what I mean,
he's you know, holding his head up high, you know
(04:47):
what I mean in positive thought, walking around with a
positive smile. So you know that's a testament to him
and his character. But also you know, it's very inspirational
to see a guy like that battle you know, I
mean this type of condition and also go out there
and still want to be out there with the guys.
And you know, I mean it's gonna be a huge loss.
(05:08):
You know. Obviously he's our green dot. You know, I mean,
I'll either on the team, but like I said, uh,
we got to find a way to add that next
man up mentality and you know, play ball for him.
Speaker 4 (05:21):
So I want to ask you a question about quarterback
play in general and when quarterbacks start to scramble and
get up the field. I mean, we saw it with C. J.
Stroud a couple of weeks ago. Gave himself up too late,
gets hit his head, bounces off the turf. No flag. Uh,
you know, I think it was the right call. You
can't pull off at the last minute like that. But
then you got guys like you know, Pat Mahomes who
(05:42):
are able to, sometimes it feels like, manipulate the referees
or manipulate the rules around him to to to prevent.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
You guys from hitting him.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
How do you guys approach Patrick Mahomes when he's running
the football past the line of scrimmage? Do you try
to just hit him like any other runner, or or
do you back off him or what's your approach there?
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (06:03):
No, you're supposed to hit him. Yeah, I mean that's
what you're supposed to do. But like I said, I
think sometimes the cause can be inconsistent. You know, when
you got plays like that, I think it's pretty bad
because defenders get hesitant, and when you're hesitanting, you play slower,
you know, in the game, and you don't want that
to happen. So I think certain guys know how to
(06:31):
you know how to get beyond the rule book and
know how to work things in their favorite and I
think he does a pretty good job at doing that.
So but I also think that, you know what I mean,
you don't let up on a guy like that. You
know what I mean, We all got our pads on.
We're supposed to god, they hit the next man. So
now I don't feel like we should spare anybody at all,
(06:52):
no matter who you are. But you know, I mean,
that's what you know he signed up for.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
So last one I have for you.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Pat really appreciate the time, and I just want to
ask about because we were just discussing this ability your
team has to come back and win games, and you
guys are six and two on one score games, and
I mean remarkably the Chiefs were actually zing four this season,
but they were very good on it last year. But
but what is it about a team that really has
that ability to continue to find a.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
Way to hang in there?
Speaker 1 (07:20):
And even in these last two weeks without without you
arguably one of the best defensive players out there, without
several key starters, now without JK. Dobbins or Alex Singleton,
there's still probably a belief within that building that they
can come back and win any game.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Would you agree, Yeah, I totally agree. I feel like
the testament of a team and character is what does
the team through, what does the team do through adversity?
And I think if you look at our team and
look at our season, we've been through a lot of
adversity in a couple of games. I mean the Giants game,
(07:55):
we is down like two three possessions, find a way
to come back and win the game. At the end Eagles game,
we was down, we found a way to come back
and win, you know what I mean. I just think
it shows our resilience and our will to compete, you
know what I mean, because the game's never never over
to that final whistleblows. And I mean that's how mindset
and into any game, you know. I mean, because we
(08:17):
in the NFL. Of course they gonna make their plays.
Of course they're gonna have momum swings, but it's all
about finishing. And it's all about knowing that when we
in a deficit or knowing when to fight, you know,
and finish games. And I think that's what separates us
from a lot of teams.
Speaker 1 (08:34):

Speaker 2 (08:43):
This week's kid Caster question is from Kai.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
My question for.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
You is growing up with the father who played in
the NFL.
Speaker 1 (08:52):
What's one lesson he taught you that still guides how
you approach the game today.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Great question.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Oh that's a good question, my guy.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
So you know, I had the unin privileged to have that,
you know, that play foot by at the high level.
But one of the things that resonate with me the
most is to stay diligent in your craft. Never get
too high, you know what I mean, never get too low,
you know, staying between your emotions and uh you know,
(09:21):
always chase your dreams, you know what I mean. Perfect
that perfect your craft and the rest of history. So
that's something that resonates with me and that will stick
with me forever.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
I think Ki's coming from my job here, Pat, I'm
a little worried. That was amazing.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
That was a great question for sure, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
No doubt.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
All right, man, rest up by week coming up. Hopefully
we get to see you out there on the field
here very soon. Thank you so much for the time. Yeah,
thank you, thanks, I appreciate it. Passer Tan joining us there.
We'll react to that coming up next
