and on the final play of the game, the Denver
Broncos have beaten the Kansas City Chiefs by a final

score of twenty two to nineteen. I was thinking it,
and I'm sure if you're listening to the game, you
might have been thinking it too. As he lined up
did Will Lutz for a thirty five yard field goal.
I thought the same thing last year in Kansas City,
thirty five yarder. This is a no brainer, but I
fought the urge really to allow myself to completely think that.

Not this year. Chiefs don't get to block. Will Lutz
is perfect. He's five for five in the game, and
the Broncos offense really comes to life. Bon Nicks showing
up in a big way, I thought, against a really
good defense today and the Broncos went it twenty two
to nineteen. The Chargers lose today, obviously, the Chiefs lose here,

and so the Broncos able to extend that lead in
the AFC West. By the way, the performance of the
game today is Jaqwan McMillan six tackles, two sacks, and
a huge interception as the Chiefs had taken the opening
kickoff of the third quarter, driven all the way down
into deep Endo Broncos territory McMillan with the I int

and that stopped any opportunity for the Chiefs to score.

could have easily won one or both of those. So
Denver Broncos with the bye week coming up, gotta be
feeling pretty darn good about themselves. Got a chance to

rest up, heel up, and get ready for the playoff push.
And as I mentioned, with the Chargers losing today, they
lost big, I mean losses loss, but they were hammered
in Jacksonville, Denver. Now at nine to two, they have
a full two game lead over the field. The Chargers
are seven and four, the Chiefs are third at five
and five, so that's a three and a half game

lead in the lost column. Chiefs have played one less game,
but still they have five losses to the Broncos. Two
certainly worked out in a favorable way for the Broncos today,
nine six to nine. Oh, exhilarating win. But Roley Moss
draw on all these big PI calls is a real problem.

The second one, I think you can make that call.
I think there's hand fighting going on. Hollywood Brown tries
to come back on an underthrow deep route and there
was to me enough hand fighting that you're you're probably
gonna throw the flag. The first one, no way is
that a pass interference call, at least in my opinion,

nine five eight to oh, Thank goodness. The defense showed
up today, if only the offense could be good too.
I actually thought the offense was better today, so did I.
I mean, I don't need to remind you the last
time here. They scored ten points against the Raiders, twenty
two points today against a much better defense in Kansas
City than what Las Vegas has. Three and forty two

total net yards offensively, no turnovers. They had their share
of penalties. Each team had ten penalties, which really hurt
the Broncos, especially the ones that they committed on the
pis that we talked about. Those were the big ones.
But yeah, I thought the Broncos offense showed up today.
Defense showed up like they always do. Yeah, this is

a big win. Of the three phases we talked about
the importance of winning at least two of them here
at home. Certainly the defense, I think the offense played
winning football today and special teams for sure. The Broncos
had one hundred and seventeen yards of return yardage in
this game. The Chiefs had nineteen. Will Lutz kicked off
today six times, and five of those were not returned

past the thirty So the coverage units for the Broncos
very good as well. Two on four, eight, nine to two.
Special teams really made the difference this time, just refreshed
that where did it go? I don't know. Seven oh three, five,

nine to five. Day you said the game is going
to come down to a turnover. McMillan's interception and ninety
yard touchdown drive was a difference. Great broadcast as always. Yeah,
that was a huge, huge moment. I mean the turnover
stops Kansas City from from getting points to open the
third quarter, and of course at halftime we were tied
at six seven one nine four sixty four. That was

a better team compared to last week. Well deserved when
well played. I completely agree, completely agree, Not only that
a desperate team coming in and a team that, with
Andy Reid as the head coach after a bye week
almost unbeatable. Uh seven oh six, seven to sixty one.

(05:48):
We can talk all night about the last minute bailouts.
Fact is this doesn't work forever, and the reality is
no go Bo and Peyton have shown little other than
the occasional bow ball success and seeing Peyton's coaching not improving,
mediocre performance and penalty plague. I'll say, too many penalties
for sure. Why not bring VJ on to talk about
his defense because he's not allowed to. You know, we can't.

(06:09):
We don't have access to him after the game, Otherwise
we would the Peyton Rhetorick is getting old, nothing new,
No improvement is coaching. Only exceptional d has kept him competitive.
I agree about the exceptional defense, but I do think
you're you're underestimating what the Broncos offense was able to
do against the defense. Listen, Kansas City came into this
game fourth in the league in points allowed per game.

(06:33):
That's the top five defense. They gave up an average
of under like seventeen point whatever, it was, five or six,
and so it was going to be one of those
one of those games. I think you had to play
it this way if you're the Broncos. They had they had.
I mean, this was a team that couldn't put together
a drive against the Raiders and against the Chiefs they

(06:53):
had a sixteen excuse me, they had a fourteen play
fifty four yard drive to open the scoring. They had
an eleven play eighty nine yard drive for a touchdown.
They had an eight play sixty yard drive, and then
to close the game out in a tie game, they
had a ten play fifty eight yard drive that used
every single second of the clock. So to me, the offense,

(07:17):
I mean they've made great improvement this week against the
better team. Yeah, this is a good Chiefs defense. Their
last four games coming into this one, they held opponents
to just about eleven points per game. But Bronco's scoring
twenty two here tonight to win the game on that
last second field goal by Will Lutt. I think the
offense played much much better tonight seven to two oh

five to six ozero. Good for Bowie out played fifteen
yet again, but one hundred and fifty seven pennalty yards
is inexcusable, even if the refs play for the Chiefs. Yeah,
of that one to fifty seven, two of those long
yardage situations pis against Riley Moss. Here's coach Sean Payton

And I say this was efecfully for the first time
since I've been here, really loud, and I think that helped.

We did a lot of things well. Special teams came up.

I felt like we played on their end of the
field and one of the keys. We felt these guys
have really all seasoned. The last four weeks have really

of the field. So there'll be some things obviously we
want to clean up. Guys will be out of here
for a while and then we get ready to go
for I don't know, a Sunday night game here in

give you problems, you know, we uh yeah, there were
some big plays there and uh you know, we had
some early field position in the first half, and I'm like, man,

there's a couple of those field goals. One of them
just needed to be a touchdown. But I felt at halftime.
I felt at halftime good about where we were relative
to the matchup of our defense and their offense, their
early start, first fifteen type team, and I felt like,
you know, aside from some of the penalties, you know,

we did a good job in all three phases.

On the defensive side, Jae Kwon came up big two sacks.

Two sacks, interception, all of the game.

Coach, what is it about these spots? You got no certain,
no single to no dobbins. Through your career, you've had
an ability and knack to get teams to play their
best one. People don't think, yeah, I don't have much
of it.

I think, look, it's not me, it's it's it's it's
training your culture. You know this Nick Saban quote about
toughness really not necessarily physical, but you know the mental
and how much you can take and he likened it

to hurricane windows. You can get the one thirty nine's,

if you go up, they cost more. So I went
through that same thing with the beach House, and it's
fined in and sometimes you got to pass on something

your jobs. But our jobs are to focus on the
winds and to focus on there's one way when each
game and the players deserve a chance uh to have that,
and so sometimes that can vary. But in a game

where you know a lot of guys were banged up
and they were fully healthy, it's a big one Sean.

And going back, you know, he esked about jamact, but
your whole defense, what can you say about their effort today.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
That was looking significant? It just the intensity.

You know, we talked about all week being in a
position where and I I heard Bill Cower in the
pregame show was saying that, hey, we're playing with house money,
and I was like, be quiet, you know, because we
we approached that game like this team had nothing to
lose in that game. That team we were playing was

playing for a lot, and I wanted to make sure
we were aggressive. We were going to take the ball
if we won the toss. Well, we didn't win the toss,
but we got the ball. But it was you know,
we were we were playing in a game where the
pressure was on them and uh and our guys responded, well.

Sean, what can you say to us about JK. Dobbins's
injured situation?

Speaker 3 (12:48):
And a few updates. I'll keep you posting. Is he

Your thoughts on the running game?

Thought it was good, good enough?

Yeah, se along the same lines what you were talking
about just when you got here.

I mean they had mahomes for fifteen more more.

But look if you go back and all of us
were there.

We had a Thursday night game, was the first time
we played them, and we defensively played them really well.
On that Thursday night game. We were awful on offense
and we had a poor plan. Then we played them
at home and we took the ball away five times

and had a decisive win. So we were split with
them at that point. Last year, obviously the last game
of the season was a different game. I think this.
I think that loss in Kansas City was where the
one to eighty nine miles per hour was tested, and
that was a tough, gut wrenching loss. But I think

there was a feeling, and if you look at our
record from that loss, there was.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
A feeling that.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
You know, we belong here and and so and I think, listen,
there's either wins or losses. But the response after that
game last year with the block field goal, you know,
was was super and and so there was some irony

obviously when we were taking a knee to kick the
field goal. But I just you know, I think that
that confidence thing that we always talk about exists in
that locker room with these this group of guys.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
It's special and so.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
You know they'll have some time to recover and then
get ready for that next stretch of six games. I
think we're three home, three away, if I'm not mistaken.

Sean that the third quarter touchdown drive just looks like
it looked like you guys are moving quicker a little
bit more.

Basically we tempoed one. I felt sometimes you hurry to

In your experience with championship teams, do you need this
the kind of battle wins that you've had to get
to this point.

I think there's a journey that if you.

If you tracked any championship team, I think you would find,
you know, the the tough wins, the close ones, the
you start doing the math with it. I can recall
a number of our better teams, you know, holy cow,
devastating losses and yet rebounding that nine super Bowl team.

We lost the last three games of the regular season.
We lost to Dallas, then we lost an overtime to Tampa.
But then we had the one seat sat our starters.
Everyone was up in arms. You can't we had the
one seat, and I felt we needed to rest, and
then we went on. And so I think, and you
guys have covered this game long enough, you could pick

seasons and and there's gonna be those heavy wins.

was gonna be a fourth quarter battle and then we
just finished. You know, we're really figuring out how to finish,

Denver kicker has had five field goals, and of those ten,
three belonged to Lutz. Jason Elam, the great kicker of yesteryear,
he had five field goals in three games as well,
and of course Brandon McManus back in twenty twenty in

a game in New England, had six field goals to
hold the Broncos record. But will Lutz, I mean the
last one of thirty five yards obviously was the game winner,
but the one he made with just a little over
four minutes to go from fifty four yards out, that
tied the game. That you talk about a money kick. Yeah,
really that was the difference. That was a money kick,

and Will Lutts has been money this season. Let's see

no Singleton, no problem. This team has grit and I

win today. Just looking at some of these other other
scores around the league. So New England got a win
on Thursday night. They're nine and two as well. Buffalo
with a win today at home against Tampa. They're seven

and three in the AFC North. The Steelers get to
win today. They lead the AFC North. They are six
and four. Baltimore, where they come from behind win today,
they are five and five. Indianapolis is eight and two
in the AFC South. They lead that division, the Chargers
losing today to Jacksonville, so the Jags are six and

four in second place in the South. And then Denver,
of course, with a nine and two mark and a
two game lead in the AFC West. Chargers drop one
today in Jacksonville, so they're seven and four. Chiefs lose here,
they're five and five, and the Raiders, I believe, play
Monday night. So right now, the Broncos have the best record.
They're tied with New England for the best record in

the AFC and the best record those two teams have
the best record in the National Football League, so plenty
of work to get done. I know the bye week's
coming up, but I don't think it's too early to
start thinking about, you know, what does this team need
to do to not only win the West, but to
secure home field advantage throughout the playoffs. I mean, there's

a big difference in playing here in Denver in what
could be a championship kind of game, as opposed to
going to Foxborough and playing in New England. I don't
think this team has played their best football yet and
they're nine to two, so I do think the offense
will make some progress through December, get better. Then you

really have something. If they can do that on the
offensive side of the ball going into the postseason, we
really have something with this team because this defense is
so good. The Broncos with us win today fourteen and
four in the last eighteen regular season games, so it's

Your first drive in the second half, after the interception,
there was a I think block in the back, so
you start on your eleven. You have an eighty nine
yard drive in a tie game. Eleven plays in over
six minutes. I mean, it just seemed like that that
drive sort of set the tone for a really competitive
second half against a good team.

Yeah, that just kind of got it going again, and
you know, we used some tempo and got to the
ball and we did a good job of again throwing it.
You know, I'm kind of down the field and starting
on mine. I think overall, that's.

You know, what we're good at.

When we get going and we get you know, moving.

Pretty quick, and the defense gets a little tired on
the drive, they can't rush as good and they can't
get all their calls in because they're just having to
hurry up. So against the defense like that that likes
the pressure, I think, you know, some tempo goes a
long way.

I'll get you out of here with this. I mean,
you get the ball back four minutes and change on
your own twenty six, you get a holding call. It's
third and fifteen, and I in in hindsight, I've called
this so far the play of the year. You step
up and you you're flushed right throwing the run and

there on the indcut, and they did a good job
of playing underneath Court. But he immediately saw me move
and he just kind of readjusted and went back out
and it was a deep income and he was already
passing the first down marker. But on a play like that,

guy at? They can go make a play against anybody,
