Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone to another edition of the KSR Pre Show.
Today is Wednesday, June eleventh. I am Billy Rutledge along
with Shannon the Dude. You can give us a call
on the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line. That's eight five
nine two eight zero two two eight seven. Call that
be our whiskey Thief call of the day or Texas
at five o two two six five six six five six.
(00:20):
As always, the KSR Pre Show is brought to you
by Italics Fine Italian Dining right here in Lexington, Kentucky,
here in the city center on Main Street. That's where
I'm at today. Shannon the Dude is in Louisville where
he is alone in the studio. Good morning, Shannon. Yesterday
was a fun show. Maybe an old timer maybe comes
to the best of moments of KSR ring this morning
(00:42):
doing well.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
It was definitely a best of show. We found out
yesterday that Billy wishes Vince Merrill all the best of
luck at U of L. And you know when you
said that yesterday, I was like, you know, I think
you're on an island on your own for that one.
And then you come in here today and you immediately
flashed me the l's up and you.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Got a Louisville hat on. Honestly, what was coming? Are
you a full blown Loisle fana smoking the fires? What
are you doing? I got enough of it from the
fan base yesterday, whether it be dms or tweets. Somebody
had an AI photo of me and Louisville Cardinals gear.
I think they took my Mimosa photo and just turned
it red. Shannon was an all day thing. So you
(01:18):
got like a Louisville tattoo. You got the Patino tattoo
on your the back of your shoulder. Look, if I'm
the bad guy for wishing someone good luck, then I'm
a bad man, Shannon. I'm sorry. I will play the
bad guy. But then Mario later in the day decides
it's time to release the graphic of Hey, get to
know Billy Rutlish and know my facts and things like that,
(01:40):
just comments of all. He also is a Louisville fan
and loves Vince Marrow. But you know what it's this
is what sports is about. This is you know, we
come together for these rivalries, and man, what a day
yesterday was talking about Vince Marrow. There's been some developments
since there, but Shannon. Just the fact that we got
people calling in saying that they gave Vince the el's down,
(02:01):
and then Vince's calling Matt during the break to tell
him the real story. I mean, it was just some
bizarre moments yesterday. It was ELL's down and birds up.
I think that's what it was.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
That was that was the l one, the middle finger,
the oho almost the middle finger up in the air
to Vince Merrow.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
It's amazing how quickly things can turn, though.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
You know, you go from one of the most beloved guys,
maybe the most beloved, well, I think the most beloved
assistant coach.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Is that fair?
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Like, is there any other assistant coach that even comes
close in any sport for Kentucky than Vince Merrill.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
I mean, he can name a couple, but like not
that come close to how beloved he was twelve years right.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Yeah, And just like that, on the turn of a dime,
we go from loving him to hating him. Just like that,
you can't even go to get himself a coffee and
a donut without getting flipped off by by our fans.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Well, from the big dog to the dirty dog. Yes,
we had some pre show callers yesterday and if you'd
like to join us eight five nine two eight h
two two eight seven. I mean, my jaws on the floor.
When Matt's talking about Vince and Stoops not calling each
other the Michigan story, Dwayne Peeve's got to get involved.
I mean, hell, I'm a stubborn guy, Shandon, but I
could absolutely see a couple of stubborn guys in the
(03:10):
football facility doing something like that too. But you know,
just that was shocking to me. You know, Matt said
that there were some developments yesterday that UK athletics leadership
and UK football donors were not aware of Marrow's departure
until Pete the Amil's tweet. Shannon, No, yeah, that's that
can't happen, man, that's I think that's a terrible look
(03:31):
right there.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Well, hearing that story about Vince and Stoops yesterday, you know,
sports just makes a lot of us children, essentially, because
it's not real life. Like it's not like you're coaching
a football team that you're not out there digging ditches.
It's not really an adult job, right. You're getting paid
millions of dollars. Don't get me wrong, it's a great
job to have, but it's sports and you hear stories
(03:54):
like that, and that sounds like to me, something that
would have happened between like you know, two people in
high school. Well, well I feel like he should call me.
Then you call the other person, Well he should be
calling me. Like we're all adults here. Why don't one
of you pick up the phone and make the call?
Like why does the the you know, the they that's
not even involved in football, you know, have to get involved,
(04:18):
Dwayne Peevee have to get involved in putting the two together.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
You're giving him too much credit. It's not even a
high school thing. That's a grade school thing. Shit, And
that's like, you know, they've you know, I'm gonna tell
my mom on you and like I can't talk to you.
He should call me. That is That is an unbelievable
story Matt shared yesterday and if if you haven't caught it,
it's a good episode to catch up on podcast. I
mentioned there were some developments besides the fact that UK
(04:43):
athletics leadership had no idea Marrow was leaving. Vince Marrow
tweeted at Nick Rausch this morning, can oh okay, maybe
stirring the pod a little bit? Nick tweeted out a
link to a story about Vince Marrow losing power in
the Kentucky football recruiting room. He says, we're taking a
closer look at his recruiting resume and quantity was not
(05:03):
always greater than quality. And Vince Merrill responded this morning
and said, Lol, I will be speaking soon on this.
So Shannon I said the other day that Vince should
come on KSR, aired out all the dirty laundry and talk. Yeah.
You know, some people think we won't even get much
if he were to talk, we'd get a lot of
coach speak. And that's probably too true to a degree.
(05:24):
It sounds like Vince is going to be speaking on
this matter soon.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Well, that's exactly what I was saying yesterday. I mean,
somebody needs to start talking because and Matt brought this
up as well. You know, somebody's going to fill the void.
And if you meaning Vince Merriw or Mark Stoops aren't
going to talk to the media. The media is going
to create their own narrative, their own stories. You know,
this isn't just going to go away. We're not going
to forget that it happened the next day. So I
(05:50):
think you're better off coming out and making some sort
of not just the statement either, don't don't do one
of these generic statements like you need to go in
front of a camera or on a radio show and
talk about it, because again, if you don't, then like we,
you and I have to come on here every day,
we have to talk about something.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
It's June.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
There's not a whole lot else going on. So what
do you think we're gonna talk about. We're gonna talk
about Vince Merrill. And until we get you know the
facts or you know the story directly from the source,
then we're gonna have to speculate, because that's.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
What we do right now. And let me ask you
the same question about Stoops. Do you think he should
be doing the same getting getting on a show.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Get talking. Yes, that's what I'm talking about, Like, get
out in front of it right now. Yeah, when you
sit there and you're you're silent about it, sometimes you know,
the silence says more than than anything, you know, just
not saying anything. I think it was Keith Whitley that
said that you say it best when you say nothing
at all.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Mmm.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
But now I think I think in this case though
he Stoops does need to say something.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
Yeah, yeah, sometimes the quiet one in the room can
be the more intelligent one, not having to hear somebody
or yourself. Yeah, like we do every morning. But this
is a situation where I agree with you, Shanney. You
need to get out in front of it. You need
to say something. In an offseason that's been quiet for
Kentucky football. We've we've had some news over the last
couple of weeks with Eric Woolford and now Vince Marrow.
(07:13):
But they've they've got to hit the ground running. They've
you know, Vince has put him in a bad spot.
They've got to fight a tight ends coach. They've got
to start recruiting for the coming years. But you know,
maybe Vince saw that maybe after a four and eight season,
there wouldn't be another year at Kentucky to recruit in
fine guys. Well that's the thing.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Like you know, again, we had that person that caught
in yesterday that said, you know, Stoops would probably get
canned after this year. Again, though, we got to keep
in mind that buyout still there. Let's not forget about that.
What's that thirty seven and a half million something like that.
Even if Vince or even if Stoops were let go
after this season, Let's say I think that there's a
(07:50):
very good chance that that Vince could have stayed. I
think he could have had a job here for as
many years as he wanted to have a job. So
I don't think, you know, if Stoops were to have
been fired after the season, that Vince would get let
go too.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
I know, I don't think that would happen.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
So I don't know that that's the reason that he left.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Again, we don't know the real reason we haven't heard
from him. So until we do, all we can do
is speculate.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
And all we can say now is eighty days until
the start of Kentucky football Shannon Toledo versus the Cats
at Kroger Field in eighty days. It's going to be
a long eighty days, I'm sure. But we'll continue to
talk about Kentucky football, and if you'd like to talk
about it today eight five nine two eight zero two
two eight seven. The real loser in all this is
Murray State baseball, man, because we touched on it yesterday.
But man, I'm excited for the Racers, I am. And
(08:34):
it continues the weird connection between Kentucky and Murray and State.
Stephen Peak has been all on that over the last
couple months or so. Murray State making the College World
Series one year after Kentucky, but they will take on
UCLA Saturday at two pm, and man, I'm going to
be locked in Shannon. Hopefully we can get the Murray
State coach back on KSR before then. But two teams
(08:56):
in the state of Kentucky and the College World Series,
but clearly we'll be rooting for Murray State. Oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
And this team can score so many runs. I mean,
you saw them put up nineteen against Duke in that
second game, right, So when you got a team that
has that high powered offense, anything could happen.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
I mean, I'm not gonna.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
Say Murray State's gonna win the national title, but I
think they got just as good as a chance as
anybody else out there. I mean, to do what they've
done so far. You know, they've clearly got all the
pieces that they need to make a deep run, and
to do it the way they did it against Duke.
I mean they kind of beat them twice. Really, I mean,
if you watch that ninth inning that last game against Duke,
(09:35):
so Yeah, I'm definitely pulling for Murray and I think
they can beat UCLA.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Why not. Let's keep this train rolling. Yeah, let's keep
it rolling. And you know, while Nick min Gione has
had small ball as his mantra for many years, it
was when the team could hit solo home runs or
could go yard with it. Last year when Kentucky had
their most success, Murray State can do that too. Like
They've got some great hitters on their team and they've
got power. So we'll be rooting for then, there's no doubt. Uh.
(10:01):
And so I guess we'll talk more about that on
Friday as well. Uh, Shannon, can I tell you something
that happened to me yesterday non sports related? Because we
get into non sports topics all the time here on
the show. We do have some sports things to talk about,
like some basketball change, rule change is coming to college basketball,
and some schedule updates for Kentucky basketball. But you know,
yesterday I listened to the new Little Wayne album, So
(10:24):
you did, okay, the Carter six, littl Wayne or Lil Wayne,
Lil Wayne, Lil Wayne, it's l I L. It's not
little Little Lil Wayne, kind of like he's like he's
not little dog. He's a little dog, little dog, and uh, listen, look,
Lil Wayne's got a fond place in my heart, Shannon.
I mean I was waiting for the school bus in
(10:46):
middle school listening to the Carter three Little Old album
back in the day, and so I probably didn't need
to be listening to those cuss words at that age either.
But you know what, You're not gonna You're not gonna
stop me if I've got the internet. But I listened
to the Carter six yesterday, Shannon, and it was awful.
I had to stop listening to it. I did not
(11:06):
finish the album because it was that bad, and it
kind of depressed me. Shannon. I mean, I love Lil Wayne,
and I was had high expectations for the album, and
I thought it was a complete flop. I mean, there
was one song with Jelly Roll I kind of got
into a little bit. But Shannon, it was bad. The
production was bad. It felt like he was trying to
(11:27):
like sing like somebody else instead of himself. Did he
have the auto tune turned up to oh yeah yeah?
But I expected some of that. Yeah. I mean, you're
not gonna, you know, get the best tones from Lil Wayne,
Lil Wayne. But Shannon, I just wanted to ask you,
has there ever been a situation you're a music guy,
you were really disappointed by an album or somebody came
(11:47):
out with a performance and you just it didn't live
up to your expectations.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
Like concerts. Yes, I mean, you know, I've told you.
I went to the White Stripes. I thought they were
horrible alive when I saw them with the Louisville Palace.
There's a band called Crossfade that was real into like
in the early two thousands, and they weren't that great live.
Speaker 1 (12:04):
As far as like albums, I remember.
Speaker 2 (12:07):
Okay back in the nineties being a you know, Big
Alice and Chains fan, right, And I got Jerry Cantrell's
solo album and I really didn't like it at the time.
But now, like as I've gotten older, I've gone back
and listened to it and I really like it. So
maybe you just need to, you know, give it twenty
years and go back and listen to a Lil Wayne
and maybe you'll like it again.
Speaker 1 (12:27):
So they say, like, yeah, albums deserve like two or
three listens. You gotta have time to digest what he's saying.
But like production value and just the sound that I
was expecting. I'm okay with people pivoting to a different sound, Shannon,
doesn't have to all be the same. But I guess,
after like twenty twenty five, thirty years in the rap game, Shannon,
maybe you've rapped about it all.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Maybe so you know, So, I guess that means you're
not going to have that on your playlist when you're
working out at the gym later on today.
Speaker 1 (12:54):
No, no, now, listen, I'm listening to Bent and al
Alice Bluegin songs.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
That's I appreciate that, man, Thank you. Yeah, there's no
worries where it's tough on a musician to get your
stuff out there too. That's sort of the good and
the bad. Like before when you had record labels, if
you weren't on a record label, your music never get heard.
Now that the Internet is what it is, anybody can
put out music. But now you just get flooded with
(13:21):
so much that it's hard for your music to fight through.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
All the riff raff and to be heard.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
So like, you know, we just put out that new
song a couple of weeks ago, and it's hard for
it to get the exposure that you know, somebody else
with a huge following can get now. It does help
that I have a radio show and we can talk
about it. Yeah, for sure, it does help, for sure.
But you know, it's it's tough to get your music
heard out there and have people actually care. But we
(13:51):
put a lot of work into it. Like we put
all this work into it. We got it produce, we
want it out there. We want people to actually.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Listen to it. So I'll get it's tough. It is tough.
You know, anybody can make a song nowadays, but to
get noticed, I'm sure is much more difficult. I'll give
you another example. It's in the same music genre, but
like Kanye, like used to love old Kanye album Shannon,
but you cannot listen to new Kanye, these new albums.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
It's what we found out is all these like nineties
rappers were early two thousands I would say, okay, nineties
and two thousands rappers were either just lunatics or into
some really bad things. We don't need to say names.
I think you can figure out who I'm you know,
referring to. But yeah, but you know a lot of
(14:37):
these guys are in jail now for things they've done well.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Kanye West, one of his albums was rated by the
Rolling Stones as the worst album of all time, all
the time horrible albums by brilliant artists. Kanye West's Yay
album in twenty eighteen was number one all time. I'm
gonna give you maybe the top five. See if you
recognize any of these the Velvet Undergrounds squeeze, is this
five worst or top five best worst albums of all time?
(15:03):
Never heard that? I know? Yes by the Union in
the late eighties, Antara by Metal Magic in nineteen eighty three,
and Bob Dylan's Down in the Grove in nineteen eighty eight.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Bob Dylan has one of the top five worst albums
of all time by brilliant artists on the Rolling Stones list.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Yeah, Rolling Stones full of it.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
By the way, I saw their list of like the
greatest artists, the greatest bands of all time, and they
had the White Stripes, who I've just said was like
one of them was the White They had them like
number ten. I'm going to all time. Get out of here,
no way. Rolling Stones puts out these stupid lists just
to get people like me fired up and to talk
about it and to give them publicity and it's working
(15:46):
because it gets me fired up. It drives me crazy.
They put some of these bands. I think Velvet Underground
was one of the top fifteen bands or something like that.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
I'm gone no way of all time? Stop it. I mean,
I guess you can only play seven Nation Army so
many times for Shannon the Dude to be impressed.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Well, they've got other songs, but and that's not even
my favorite song of there is.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
They have some songs that I like.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
A point is they're not a top ten band of
all time, and neither's Velvet Underground.
Speaker 1 (16:11):
Get out of here with that stupid Yeah. Rolling Stones, well,
whether it be the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
or the Rolling Stones Music list or the hell the
Hall of Fame of Toys that we like to break
down on the pre show.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Is that coming around again? That should be coming up.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
Soon, I hope so, because we need the we need
like the topics or in the summer shows of the
KSR pre Show. Uh, if you'd like to join an
eight five nine two A two two eight seven Texas
five oh two two six five six six five six,
we need to take break. When we come back, we'll
talk a little bit about the NBA Finals game that
is later tonight, DeMarcus Cousins, who got into a big
altercation with fans in the Puerto Rican League that he's
(16:49):
playing in now, and much more on the way here
on the Kospre Show. So this is the best White
Stripe song right here? What song is this? Do you
know this one? No, no, no, I don't know this
song dead Leaves in the Dirty Ground never gets any
radio play, but in my opinion, the best song on
the right White Stripes ever wrote. Well, obviously not very
(17:10):
good in your eyes because you don't like the Whites.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
No no, I mean again, they're fine, but they're not
a top ten band of all time as the Rolling
Stones had them list. I think it was top ten.
I'd have to go back and look at the list,
but I was like, they don't deserve to be that high,
and they certainly don't belong to the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame before some of these nineties bands that
still aren't in.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Well, I'm just glad it's a rock band that's in
the rock Hall of Fame. Shanna, don't get me started
on that exactly A five nine two eight zero two
two eight seven, be careful when you get on social
media later. Today, there's a lot of people that create
fake accounts and just tweet fake news to try to
fool people out there. And Mario was one of our
one of those people that got fooled yesterday with Alex Cruise.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
I would expect that from you know, an older person.
No offense, uh to older people. But Mario, yeah, getting
fooled by face go on Phase book. Well yeah, so
it was a lot of other stuff on Facebook, didn't you?
And I talk about this a couple of weeks ago.
There's there's more than one of these Kentucky sports related
Facebook accounts and they purposely put out fake news purposely, and.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
I'm like, I don't know why they do that. I
guess they do it because people. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
I guess there's enough fool there's enough tweet it, there's
enough marios out there that actually believe it and like
it and follow it and comment on it. But I
had to block it because I was like, I don't
want to see this. I mean, I know it's fake.
So I had to block it just so I don't
continue to see this, because then you get in that
algorithm when you click on something and then everything is
these fake Kentucky sports Facebook pages that pop up.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
Well, it's you know, it's kind of like joker behavior
doing that. Just want to watch the world burn because
I mean, there's not much of a payoff to it,
and you're just making people look stupid. Yeah, I don't
know what they're even doing.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
They only have like a couple of thousand followers, so
I guess there's a couple thousand idiots that actually believe them.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
Right.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
There's a very popular NBA Central Twitter account that post
NBA breaking news, but there's an NBA Central account without
the R that tweets a lot of crazy stuff and
people get fooled by it all the time. I almost
got fooled by it yesterday when it said Brownie James
was gonna be the cover athlete for the new NBA
two K game. I thought, wow, that's pretty generous on
(19:20):
the cover. Come on then, and then no, no, it's
it's uh, it's actually NBA Centil that tweeted that out.
Speaker 2 (19:26):
At NBA cent I know, I call you gullible, Billy,
but you even you you're not that gullible.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
For a second, I definitely thought it was true, you
got to you gotta be careful reading the news on Facebook,
Twitter or no matter anywhere. Yeah. But but uh, speaking
of the NBA, tonight is Game three between OKAC and
Indiana and the NBA Finals. The series is one apiece.
They now go to Indiana. Shannon Uh okay, see still
a favorite. I think there it's minus five and a half.
But how do you feel after Indiana took one to two.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
I think Indiana can get at least one here and
then if you do, you'll leave Indiana with the two
to two series and then it goes to one one one,
So one back in Oklahoma City, one in Indiana, one
back in Oklahoma City. So I think if you just
like you did in OKC for those first two games,
if you can split these two home games, I think
(20:16):
you're right back in the mix. I mean, you've got
a good shot and anything can happen, and Halliburton's been
clutched and you can't ever count you can't count out
the Pacers. I mean they've been down so many times
late in the game and buy large margins and are
able to come back and pull off the winds. So
looking forward to that game tonight, of course, you can
bet it on Draft King Sportsbook, an official sports betting.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
Partner of the NBA.
Speaker 2 (20:36):

Speaker 1 (21:18):
We'll take some calls on the other side of this break,
but Shay Gildes Alexander, who won the MVP in the
NBA this year, scored thirty eight points and then thirty
four points in the first two games of the finals.
That's the most ever in the first two games of
the NBA Finals. He passes Alan Iverson, Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant.
I mean sets it up. So if OKC wins this finals,
(21:39):
he's going to be MVP Shannon. So he is a
Kentucky kid making us proud.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
The emergence of SGA has just been incredible, you know
throughout this playoff run and really throughout the season, but
you know throughout the playoff run as well. So looking
forward to seeing how this all ends up. I think
Oklahoma City probably still ends up winning in six. I
called that from the beginning. Do you think just go
said defensively man to me, think this goes seven? I
(22:02):
hope They're nothing better than a game seven in any sport, hockey, NBA,
no matter what. But every time I count out Indiana,
they come back from twenty down and win these games.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
Right. So Halliburton's been incredible.
Speaker 2 (22:15):
I'm also really looking forward to next year, like how
they're changing the coverage the NBA on NBC is gonna
be back. We're gonna have Michael Jordan as an analyst voices. Yeah,
at the Old School of Music. It's gonna be awesome.
Looking forward to that next season. All right, we'll take
a break and be back here on the pre Show.
All right, welcome back. It's a Wednesday edition of the
pre Show.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
A little bro Country from Shannon the Dude this Morning or.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
What you know, just just a football related song little
Billy Carrington. Okay, I mean, I don't guess that's totally well,
maybe it is, but I feel like there's different levels
of bro country. There's no genres off limits for sure.
Whether there's bro country, then there's bro country. You know,
that's a difference between.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
The Dude and I know exactly what you're talking about.
You even need to say anymore. I can just tell
by that that statement. Before we get to some basketball
or topics and the phone lines, you were telling me
you were at a trivia night last night.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
Yeah, they had some tough trivia quest so yeah ksr
ksbar Matt likes to do his trivia and his questions
are tough, but they're fair. But last night there was
a place that had trivia, and I said, well, it
sounds fun, let's go do some trivia. And they said
general knowledge trivia. And I thought general knowledge would be Oh,
(23:31):
I don't know general knowledge, general knowledge that everybody would know.
But these were some of the toughest questions.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
I've ever heard. It a trivia quote. I'm going who
in the world would know this? Okay? Hit me with
one you have any Okay.
Speaker 2 (23:42):
So if I said to you, Billy, which Macedonian leader,
oh God died in the year three twenty three BC
at the age of thirty two, would you know who
that is?
Speaker 1 (23:53):
No? No, no, I'm like, who would know this? Like
who just is that? Like that Alexander the Great you
did get? Is that? It? Got it? Oh? You did
get it? Wow? I didn't even google that.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Wow you did get that? Okay, Well maybe it was
I thought that was difficult. Maybe people listening are going, yeah,
I knew that, and maybe I'm the idiot. Hence the
reason we had our team name the Big Dummies, because
I didn't think I.
Speaker 1 (24:20):
Would that was your team name.
Speaker 2 (24:22):
I thought it would be okay, general knowledge. If I
said to you, Billy, who was the president of the
United States in the year two thousand.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
That's easy.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
You would know that, right, Uh tell me, don't tell
me you knew. Alexander the Great died at the age
of thirty two in the year three two three BC.
You can't tell me who the president of the United
State was in the year two thousand.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Yeah, yeah, it was George Bush, obviously, No, No, there
was that two thousand and one. Two thousand was Bill Clinton,
Bill Clinton, that's right. And then Bush was two thousand
and one. He was in the in the kindergarten class
getting told about nine to one. That's right. Wow. See,
that was my first memory of a president. It was
Bush at nine to eleven and that was two thousand
and one though, So there you go. Alexander the Great
(25:04):
knowledge higher than the US presidents in the year two thousand.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
Yeah, Bush was in the presidential election in two thousand,
but Clinton was the president.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
Well, that's half right. I was asked to do office
trivia night at Kspar and Grill many years ago, and
it went great the first time, so great the first
time that they asked me back for a second time.
But they didn't ask me back after the second time
because my questions were too hard. Because people had went
to the first trivia night also went to the second
trivia night. I had to have a whole new questions, right,
(25:32):
like you, you can't show up to both and know
the answers. So I got way too specific with the
second round of questions. I was like, you know, how
many episodes are in the fifth season of the Office,
and like, you know, people got really mad at me
because they didn't know the specifics down to the number.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
One of the questions was how many seasons were in
the Sopranos, which I didn't really follow aout.
Speaker 1 (25:53):
I felt like that's more of a fair question than
Alexander the Macedonian.
Speaker 2 (25:59):
Yeah, there was another one like that, which in Greek mythology,
which person had to roll a rock up the hill
for the rest of eternity.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
And I'm oh, no, idea, Oh I think I've heard
I've heard that before.
Speaker 2 (26:13):
Well you know that one too, look at you, so
you would have been great at this.
Speaker 1 (26:17):
I can't think of his name though. It was like
a punishment need to Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (26:24):
I figured you would pull that one out since you
didn't know our president in the year two thousand.
Speaker 1 (26:27):
You have it, though, do you have the name of
that No? We just leave that to the audience. Somebody
text line actually two six five six six five six.
Let's take our first call to day before we go
any further. Who's up? First? Let's go to Andy Handy. Hey, Andy,
what's up? Hey?
Speaker 3 (26:41):
What's up? Guys? With uh Vince leaving yesterday, I think
we kind of got a clear indicase on where the
revenue share of money is going, and you know that
seems like it's probably going to basketball. I just kind
of feel like they they kind of know that already
and I and I totally agree with it. I mean,
I'm one of the people that raise their hands, you know,
(27:02):
probably they're in Somerset about that. And I just think
that seth is measured to own championships and the ability,
you know, to get yourself in position to win championship.
And I think, you know the ceiling problem, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
You're cutting out just with the phone connection.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
But yeah, I think we got we got most of
them now.
Speaker 2 (27:28):
I think I got what your what your point was
there with money being allocated towards basketball more so than football.
I mean, you know, you look at louisvill though, Billy, like,
what do you think that Lois Is can allocate their
money towards Obviously they got a good football program there,
but right, also their basketball team matters too, So I
think for a school like that, it's going to be
(27:48):
have to you know, it's going to be difficult for
them to decide how much money goes to each program, right.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
And then there's some teams that don't even have a
football program, right, and so they can throw the job. Yeah,
all of their money towards basketball. So you know, how
each program or each school allocates this money will be
very interesting. But I did find it interesting as well
that Kentucky was the main voice against a cap on
these They want.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
It unlimited them that because they yeah, they know they
can miss right at Kentucky more money than anybody, right, exactly,
just off that brand.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
Thanks for the call, Andy, appreciate Andy.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
So, yeah, I could totally understand why Kentucky would want
to be the leader.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
It makes sense. It's not going to be Yeah, it's
like Alabama football, right, it's Kentucky basketball. When you're on
the top like that, and you have the boosters to
be able to go over that mark and and want
to be allocate more money than I can understand why
they have an opinion like that. There's a lot of
changes in the world of college athletics and IL as
you obviously know, there's also changes coming to college basketball.
(28:49):
Several rule changes are coming to college basketball and that
were announced yesterday. Some of the main ones that were implemented,
they will be modifications to the rule on continuous motion
on on field goal attempts. So it looks like there
is going to be continuation coming from the NBA to
college basketball. Also, there will be coaches challenges at any
point in the game, including overtimes. And what I love
(29:11):
about that one, Shannon, is that officials can no longer
conduct video reviews going forward on out of bounds calls
unless through a coach's challenge. So we talked so much
about these games being extended in the final two minutes.
Now it looks like coaches will get a challenge. If
they win that challenge, they get a second challenge. If
they don't, they don't get another. They will need a
(29:33):
time out to use the challenge. But these seem like
wholesale good changes for college basketball.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
But don't you think though, like if it's an out
of bounds play that the officials would have reviewed without
the coach's challenge normally, right because last year so you
don't have a coach challenge. Don't you think the coach
this year having the challenge is going to go ahead
and make that challenge on a play regardless.
Speaker 1 (29:56):
Yes, yes, and then we will simply stop the game
and we will do it for the coaches challenge. But
like in the past, chann and the officials were stopping
every game on everything, like let's make sure the clock
is exactly right, let's make sure the fingernail didn't touch
here before the ball went out of bounce.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
It was getting we're getting it right. But they have
gone overboard, almost to the extreme. And I guess a
lot of the officials are probably filling the pressure from
their their boss, you know, and they want to move
up right because when they miss calls, they don't get
moved up to more you know, high profile games and
more games. So I think that there was just was
it went from one extreme to the other. We almost
(30:33):
went from like nothing to okay, now we got to
review everything, and there needs to be some sort of
middle ground. I mean, that's with everything in sports, I
feel like right now, but then I hell, even you know,
that's a completely different conversation. But it went from nothing
to like the far other end of the spectrum. So
there just needs to be some middle ground. And I
think that these rules that are being changed and modified,
(30:54):
I think are going to help that a little.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Bit, and there'll be a learning process, right, but I
think ultimately this will speed up the games. Now, the
continuation rule, that's going to get some you know, it'll
be getting some taking use to that. Yeah, if you
don't have to be in the act of shooting to
still go to the fire for the line, it's I mean,
I'm sure there's going to be some judgment calls by
officials that will definitely be called into question at some point. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
I've never been a fan of the continuation rule, So
that's one rule that I'm not really a fan of
that that they're adding here. But I think the coaches
challenges is good. I think that's good for the game,
the flow of the game.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
It allows, And I believe goaltending is a part of
some of these rule changes and the you know, the
ability to review rule or goaltending.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
I might remember that that came up with the Kentucky
LSU game a couple of seasons ago.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Two or three seasons ago, so you.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Know they are I think overall making good modifications to
the to the rules.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Uh. Speaking of basketball, Uh, the SEC schedule release could
be coming soon, as we got news from John Rostein
yesterday that Kentucky and Arkansas will only play once next
season in Fayetteville. Feels like a little bit of a
missed opportunity not played twice while Col's at Arkansas, doesn't it? Yeah?
But I mean, are you surprised? Did you think there
(32:05):
was going to be two?
Speaker 2 (32:06):
I feel like it would be definitely a good opportunity
to cash in on that.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
Yeah, it seems like a no brainer if you're doing
the scheduling and that you would you would have Col
return to rapp Arena again. I'm trying to remember the
ratings wise, I mean hype wise.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Kentucky played Arkansas twice in a regular season, and I
don't know. I could be wrong about this because I'm
not good at remembering what happened just a couple of
seasons ago.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
That's a good question. But we just broke tradition, right,
I mean they used to play Florida twice every year forever,
and I think last year was the first time they
had only played him once in a while. But you
know these they're changing all these rules. I mean, there's
no East in Western college football anymore in the SEC.
So I mean.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
What you're saying, opponents and everything, I hear what you're
saying about it does feel It does feel like a
missed opportunity there. But at some point, though, don't you
feel like if you only get it once a year
it makes it more special?
Speaker 1 (32:59):
Is it too much of a good thing you can
ruin it? Like, let's say not in this like let's
say we played Louisville twice in one season. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
I kind of like in basketball I'm talking about of course, right,
I think I only want to play them once because
it makes it more special.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Well, home and home it would be interesting, you know,
just the environments you would see in each arena. But
I kind of agree with you, Shannon, that the one
time match up in the season makes it a little
bit more special.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
But yeah, and here's the thing, like regardless like Kentucky's
gonna have it doesn't matter who the opponent is. I
think when it comes to the SEC, Kentucky playing home games,
Rupp's going to be packed regardless.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
Rupp's going to be packed. You know, we went into
last season thinking Pope had to win one game on
the schedule, and that was the one he ended up losing.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
So and he lost it, but you know what, everybody
was still happy with the end result first year. I mean,
obviously you don't like losing to Tennessee, but you know
it's making.
Speaker 1 (33:50):
A sweet sixth.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
Sure in your first first year, it's not bad at all.
Speaker 1 (33:53):
Beat Tennessee too out of three times. It was just
that third time that happened to be the last one.
And while we're talking basket, you know, Russell Pulaski and
Laurel County are still recovering from the tornado devastation from
a month ago or so, about twenty lives lost during that.
ESPN analyst Jimmy Diykes was in London, Kentucky on Monday
night to help plan a Night of Hope, an event
(34:15):
that was helping the victims in that area. He posted
a pick with a cross carved into a fallen tree.
You know, Jimmy was a former coach at the University
of Kentucky from eighty seven to eighty nine, so I
thought it was really nice that he came back to
Kentucky to help with some of those victims in this
tough time.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Yeah, very cool of Jimmy to do that. And you know,
I've always been a fan of Jimmy Dikes.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
We give them crap sometimes, right, I mean.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
Some people do. I think he's great. I really do
enjoy listening to him call games. But yeah, very cool
that he came back and is helping out those who
are in need.
Speaker 1 (34:48):
And was it Jimmy's jet? Is that the jabllis is
the ninety feet or whatever it is when he walks
across the court and you know, Jimmy's putting people in
the jet. That's right. You got to be you're either
coach or your first class. You ever you ever flew
first class? Yeah, it's not that big of a deal.
I've never flown once first class. It seems like I'm
(35:11):
missing out, Like are they serving caviar up there? I've
got leg room I've made when I flew first class.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
The only difference was they offer you like a blanket
and a pillow if you want one, and you got
this little bitty curtain that kind of slides over like you're,
you know, so special because you're in first class, and
I think they serve you first on the plane, So okay,
you know you're up front.
Speaker 1 (35:31):
I guess you get off the plane first too. Well,
this Spirit Airlines first class is a little different than
the international twelve hour flight you might take across to
a different country. You want to say I was first
class Delta? Maybe Delta?
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Yeah, never fly, never flown private though, I don't think
I ever would.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
Want to fly pro. Oh you know, I've heard some
some good things and the bad things. I've heard people say,
the turbulence in a private plane. Oh we'll put the
fear of God in you. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Yeah, And that's what's scared me. You've flown private in
a helicopter before?
Speaker 1 (36:02):
Oh yeah, Officer Don's taking me, you know, across Lexington
to drop gift certificates from the sky, dropped ham on
people's heads. Proudest moments in the four years of the
case are pre show, There's no doubt. But I think
the plane's a little different, right, But you know, you're
the coach at Kentucky. I'm sure you get used to
something like that, right, I mean, Pope's probably flying private
to most of these recruiting visits, right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:23):
I mean, yeah, Mark Pope's not gonna be on value
jet going to visit, you know, recruit, He's got to
be on that private plane. But yeah, that's that's one
of the great benefits you get and being a coach
at Kentucky when you're the host of a radio show
like us, you don't get I guess Matt has been
on that plane a couple of times, but not but
not you or me.
Speaker 1 (36:43):
Yeah, and we know you know, I wonder where that
line is, right, because you know, Mary State Baseball isn't
probably taking private flights anyway. I don't know if there's
a program at Murray State that could take a private No.
Speaker 2 (36:53):
I said he was on here. I think he said
they are flying. Well, he said they're flying. I don't
know if he said private. They're flying, so I assume
that means private. I don't know, most guys, I don't know.
Does Murray State have the funds to fly private?
Speaker 1 (37:07):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
I think I think they flew to uh, you know,
the Duke Series. They flew there.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
I hope they're flying. But like co you know, commercial
and private, big difference when it comes to the checkbook.
And maybe it's just like it's all about having a
booster that has a plane. Right, Maybe it's you know
that helps Joe Kraft saying, hey, just kind of use it.
It's not like the university paying for that. So one
person says on the text line that North Carolina and
Duke played two times a year, do you think that
(37:33):
takes away from the raffle a little bit? A little bit?
Speaker 2 (37:35):
And I thought about that when I was saying Kentucky
and Duke. I think if it was one game. Now
you know, now, if you took that away from Duke
and North Carolina fans, I'm sure there.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
Would be an uproar.
Speaker 2 (37:45):
No yet that because they weren't the home and home
and ESPN would probably lose their mind the most. And
it's a little bit different when you compare Kentucky and
Louisville to North Carolina Duke.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
They're not in the same conference too, so you factor
that in.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
But if you're talking Kentucky in Arkansas, I wouldn't be
opposed if next year they had both of them played twice.
Speaker 1 (38:02):
It's fine.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
I'm just saying it makes it a little more special though,
when you only have one game.
Speaker 1 (38:07):
Right, well, Duke and North Carolina are in the same conference.
I think that's what I just said. Okay, I know
you said you didn't. Okay, No, yeah, I don't listen
to you. Stay with me here, let's take a break.
We'll take a break. A great suggestion. It's Billy and
the Dude. We'll be right back. You're on the case,
our pre show. Welcome back. It's our final segment of
the case, our pre show, Sisyphis. Shannon, you didn't have
(38:31):
that the guy that had to push the boulder up
the hill?
Speaker 2 (38:33):
Well, why didn't you have the answer when I asked
you twenty minutes ago.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
I had it in my head somewhere because it's an
old Greek what sorrypis.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
I think there's medicine for that.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
Sounds like something that was good. He was punished, Shinnon,
he had to push that boulder up the hill.
Speaker 2 (38:52):
Now that you say that, it does ring a bell out.
That was the correct answer. But I didn't know that,
like I did. I say to you general knowledge, though
I wouldn't think it would go into Greek mythology, and
you know, guys from three to twenty three PC.
Speaker 1 (39:06):
I mean, maybe we've been too hard on Matt's questions.
He could really ratchet it up.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
I've heard of Alexander the Great, but I didn't know
that he existed in that time frame.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (39:17):
Yeah, I've heard the name, but don't ask anything about him.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
This could be a funny show just talking about Greek
myths one day. We got plenty of time in the summer, Shannon,
I did want to talk about a guy who maybe
some consider a Greek god. That's DeMarcus Cousins.
Speaker 2 (39:31):
Shannon, Oh please, who says the DeMarcus Cousins is a
Greek god?
Speaker 1 (39:35):
I don't know transition there. But he was suspended for
the remainder of his season in the Puerto Rican League
after a confrontation with fans. I posted one of the
videos on my Twitter this morning at Billy R Sports.
This was when he was already walking to the tunnel
and somebody threw drink a drink on him. Shannon, it
was a It was a tough look for DeMarcus. He
(39:57):
was very angry and I would be too. But the
video before that, Uh, I guess there was a fan
court side that was, you know, flipping them off and
calling him names. DeMarcus approached him and kind of batted
his hands away, and you know, we've seen altercations like
this in NBA games, but hate to see DeMarcus get
into that kind of trouble.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
In Puerto Rico, there's a lot of tough guy fans.
When you're up in the stands and you know DeMarcus
is within arm within arm's reach, and you dump a
soda on his head or yell at them when you
know that you've got five or six rows of people
in front of you to protect you. But none of
these guys are so tough when you see them out
in public, when it's one on one. You know, you
see these guys out on the street, nobody's talking back
(40:34):
to DeMarcus Cousins.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
Then well, let's yeah, I do the same in the car, Shannon,
there's a windshield separating me from all the other people
that I'm yelling at. Yeah, But like let's say you're
sitting courtside and the DeMarcus Cousins starts screaming at you
like that he hears something that you say, I mean,
talking about them talk about like, you know, putting you
in your place. But uh, you know, he's he's gonna
be out for the rest of the year. It's an
(40:57):
interesting video if you haven't seen it, DeMarcus getting thrown
drinks thrown on him as he enters the tunnel. Shannon,
tell me how DraftKings before we have to get out
of here.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
The Draft Kings sportsbook promo code KSR BET five and

to talk more about Vince Marrow, who's been tweeting a
little bit this morning. And then the guys are at.
Speaker 2 (41:31):
Somebody's house tomorrow's right, a retirement community looking forward to that.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
Maybe some upside down pineapples in the area.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Or something like that, or you never know what they
might get into.
Speaker 1 (41:41):
You never know in those retirement communities. So appreciate you
everybody listening for Shannon the Dude. I'm Billy Rutley. This
has been the KSR pre show, and we will talk
to you tomorrow,
