Stop the presses. I'm watching HardKnocks. I watched it basically live.

Okay, so here's so you're notsomeone who watches things live. I'm someone
who's never late. I missed thefirst like three to four minutes, so
so we both both lived outside ofcharacter last night. But I'm a start
by saying it's really good. Ithink what we've always loved about Hard Knocks
is we got that access that youdidn't usually get. You got to see

stuff, and you know, welearned over time that there's some editing that
that is, you know, preferentialto the team and stuff like, which
again I'm fine with. I dothink it kind of slowed down the love
fest a little bit when we figuredit out. But the thing about what
we're seeing right now with Hard Knocksoff season featuring the Giants is we were

getting access, Like I don't knowif they know that, they don't always
come off looking that good, likeI don't. I don't know. But
it's first of all, it's theJoe Shane show. Like it's it's him.
He's the GM and he is themain character. He is, you
know, he's the Jerry Seinfeld ofthis show. Like it's about him,

what he's up to, how he'sdoing things. I don't know that he'd
ever be invited to the cookout,but if I'm a Giants fan, he
might hurt my feelings with some ofthe stuff he's saying about my players.

No, I just I think that, like as this, the Saquon storyline
is gonna be the main like DaleJones and Saquon Barklayer, like the A
and A and a Pluster A andB storylines. As the Saquon thing goes
on, I think if you're adiehard Saquon fan, you know Barkley,
You're probably gonna hate Joe Shaite.But that's gonna last as long as you

realize the team's try a little betteroff because they didn't spend all that money.
Yes, I'm telling you, Ilove this Hard Knocks. We gotta
go way back here real quick.So the first season Hard Knocks was two
thousand and one. You're a fanof reality television. I love really what
do you mean by that? Ilove reality tv? We have to remember
this is really important when we havethis conversation with the giants today. Hard

Knocks started in the year two thousandand one. When the show came out,
it was trying to be like Survivor, it was trying to be like
Big Brother, it was trying tobe like the real World. We're gonna
show it uncut, uncensored, behindthe walls what happens when people start getting
real in the NFL. That noveltyfactor of I guess documentary and The Office

did a mockumentary that's twenty five yearsago. Like we've all seen it.
We all get what you were tryingto do. But what Hard Knocks was.
It became a television show and talkedabout we cover this little yesterday about
heroes and underdogs and everything else.This is the novelty factor of if you're
a sports in if you're listening tous on a Wednesday in July at three

o'clock in the afternoon, or you'redoing something mowing the lawn, you love
sports. This is what sports fanshave wanted because everyone's got their own Hard
Knocks. We talked about one Jetsdriving everything else. I've never seen anything
like this. And going back tothe Joe Shane thing you mentioned the Saquon
Barkley conversation when he calls Saquon Barkleyand puts it on speaker and we get
to see what really happened. Idon't think there was a bad guy in

that conversation. Like I thought today, I was gonna come on the show
today and say, Okay, JoeShane was the bad guy. John Merraw
was the bad guy. Saquon Barkley'sbad guy. As you said, there's
still more to be told in thisstory, but watching how that went down,
even the Saquon response when Joe Shaneasked him, he goes, and
this isn't spoiler stuff. Some peopleknow this. It's like Joe Shane was
like, are you gonna give meyour word on that? Like, what

are you talking about already? Whatdo you mean? Man? Like?
Maybe, like I already told you. I didn't think Saquon handled that poorly.
I think Saequan was very frustrated.I think Joe Shane felt frustrated.
The realness of that is like somebodyI haven't seen covering the NFL in a
long time. I thought it wasbrilliant. I think if you're a giant
fan, there are still some concerns, but that one, I felt like

was about his honest and real humanversus human interaction. You can hope for
it. There's no fake nothing,at least from that edit they showed us.
I thought it was about as realas they could get. I think
it comes down to how you pictureyourself. If there's a bad guy in
that conversation, because like, ifyou've always been the employee, if you've

always been the one who has negotiateto get what you get and whatever like
that, you probably look at JoeShane that thing and be like, dude,
he already told you he wants tobe a giant for life, he
wants to go to the Ring ofHonor. He told you how much he
wanted. Do you have it ordon't you? Like? What's wrong with
you? What? Like you saidto his agent, you believe he can
play like do you have it ordon't you? Now? On the other
hand, if you've been in management, youre probably sitting there going, you

know, se Quai should have takenthe money last year. He should take
it. That that was I thoughtthat was gonna be your first thing.
I thought it was gonna be yourfavorite part of the whole episode is when
Joe Shane is talking to his mediaguy before he goes to talk to the
press at the combine and he goes, you know they're gonna ask about Saquon.
Uh, Yeah, I'm gonna sayI tried to give him bunch of
money last year. He didn't takeit, and the media guys, you
see his heart stop. Just no, it's the wrong. Don't do that.

That's that's my Gundy bad. Don'tsay that. He's like, no,
I'm not gonna say that, butlike I mean, it's real,
like he offered him the kind ofcontract that running backs aren't getting. Is
that a gig? By the way, still? Is that just? I
feel like every NFL and Pro teamhas that. But what a nice job.
I loved it because they actually showedit like a must back to back,
Like here's what he said to theguy. Here's what he said.

Here's what he said to the guy. He's what he said. I thought
it was brilliant. I thought itwas really good. I do want to
go back to the Saquon thing,though, real quick, because there's somebody
who can relate to that you mentioned. If you've gone to the employer or
the employee, the corporate side,the fact that happened to you, I
would say the Saquon barked the conversationwith some similarity stuff that's happened in your
career more so than my career,Like you were in a spot like that
before, and well the difference isthat like the boss that I was that

I was leaving was a friend,Like we become friends over the years from
working together, Like we both workedour way up kind of together. Like
he came in as a sales rep. I was still doing you know,
I was still a third guy heredoing whatever. And then you know,
he worked his way up sales managerand boss. I worked my way to
you know, just doing doing thisshow in a different place. So it
was like when I told like,I cried when I told him I was

probably leaving, and then he said, listen, I just I need to
know are you are you done orare you done unless And I'm like,
well, I'm done. And thenI'm like thought about him, like,
wait, what's one less? Whatis that? He's like, well,
if I can go to the powersthat be, the corporate overlords, basically
can if I go to the salarycap and find you more and more room.

I'm not stupid. I'm gonna listen. But like you know that ultimately
kind of the same deal. Salarycap did not budge people above. That
guy didn't really see my value,which I laugh at. Yes, and
I think Saquon for a spot thatgets the proof people wrong and you've gotten
to prove people wrong. I feellike if the Giants wanted to have Saquon

come off as the bad guy inthis rendition of Hard Knocks, maybe episode
three will tell us something different.Saquon Barkley did not come off as a
bad person to meet all during thatSaquon Barkley and maybe that was the Giants
goal. Hey, we're not hereto trash our former players. We know
there's free agency, we know there'sthe draft. That is not the point
of this whole thing. The pointis is to well, how we're gonna
build this team, and we haven'teven talked about what I thought. Even

though the media prep thing was veryinteresting, I can't get enough of when
we had to sit down interviews withthe quarterbacks and the wide receiver, but
more so the quarterbacks. Well,so to just put a button, you
know, a little bow on theSaquon thing, it's business. It's business.
You got as much as we allare fanatics, like you know we
own our Giants, Raiders yet sawyou know, Buccaneers. We all we

pay to be part of the group. That dude's gotta get paid and he
gets hurt, so he's gotta getpaid as much as he can as fast
as he can. Brian Dabeles brainis fascinating because you know they showed him
working with Brett Favre and you knoweverybody will go through all the list of
all the great you know, JoshAllen, all these great quarterbacks you worked

with. He sits down and talksto these guys and if you haven't seen
it, you have to see itbecause he knows, he knows what he
needs to hear to know whether ornot he is going to invest anytime into
that quarterback. And he sits thereand he goes you know, it's it's
fair play. I draw for me, okay. And it kind of reminds
me of Gruden's quarterback camp a littlebit. Yeah, not as friendly though,

because Gruden's quarterback camp is like atell you what, I love what
you're doing, tell you what,just just spider to buy my banana whatever,
where Dabele's like, eyah, yeah, I like fierce people too,
but this is a job interview,by the way, like you're right,
what do you got? And itwas it was cool. I I've always
been a Dable fan. I'm moreof a Dable fan now as someone who

watched it, I felt like thisis awesome. I don't know if we
got the best feel of how didMarvin Harrison Junior feel, or Molik Neighbors
or Drake may or Caleb Williams orJayden Daniels or anybody else. I would
have liked a little posts like how'dyou feel after that? You feel okay,
you feel nervous, you feel scared, I'll do one of mine.
In my career, when I gotthe gig here at iHeart, I have

never been interrogated like I did forthis opportunity. I was getting asked questions
about, like what do you thinkabout January sixth, I'm like, whoa,
whoa, And I was like theyweren't. They were trying to get
stuff out of me about how wouldyou react to a caller, how would
you react to an email? Howwould you act somebody being nasty to you
on the air. At one point, I'm sure I wish I could have
seen the whole thing twenty minutes thirtyminutes raw. At one point there was

a conversation about the future of thisshow, and somebody on the call was
being very discouraging about the future ofthis show, and I'm like, oh,
they're trying to like, get areaction out of me. They're trying
to see if I'm serious about this. They're trying. I remember after the
interview was done and they kind ofshowed this a little bit in the hallway
sometimes hey we're okay, Like,hey, we just wanted to test you.
We went through the interview process,the one guy, two guys stood

out to me, and then interviewprocess of what they showed again, I
wish I had the whole raw Canwe get Paul Camarada to give us the
raw footage of every interview? Shoutout to gilder Lin Zone who's a part
of the production team. Come on, Paul, I got some bitcoin laying
around. I think, No,I don't. The two guys who impressed
me the most, Roma Donsay andDrake may Roma Doonsay was a grown man

in that room. He's got apersonality. They even said you were an
impressive young man. How he handledhimself, how we talked about being a
leader. There are a lot ofwide receivers who come off as divas and
give me the ball, and sometimesMilieu neighbors came off a little bit like
that, but they were like cool, we want you to be competitive.
We want you to have the ball. We're okay with that roma. Donsay.
If you were a Bears fan,you've got to be thrilled about how

that guy had But Drake Mayvac whatwas that on forty five seconds thirty seconds?
If you're a Giant fan today andyou're like, why didn't we trade
up to get him? Or whyweren't the Patriots giving him up? I
was blown away about how quick hewas rallying off the play calls doing that.

There were rumors that the Giants reallywanted Drake may I don't know if
they did any good enough job ofhiding their hand there, because Drake may
blew everybody away from that interaction withBrian's able, I mean and then table
you know, yeah, he pullsthe trick of the you know, oh
tell me who do you talk toat this? And this? And then
okay, what was that play wetalked about? Uh? But go yeah,

it's it's it's a cool thing tosee. That's that's the part of
the the combine that you hear aboutbut you don't really know. Like we
hear about interviews. You hear aboutthe interviews that go wrong, right,
You hear about the guy who's like, oh, they asked me about my
love life, and they asked meabout this. They asked me about and
I didn't like it. You neverget to see the ones that go right.
You never really need to hear aboutthose. And it was it was

really cool. And I feel likeas much as I so, I just
Joe Shane, I like, Ithink I like you as a GM.
I don't know if I would likeyou as a person like And I know
he's not losing any sleep over thatdable on the other side, That dude
can hang like that's the guy asyou're sitting there watching everybody do this.

So we were we watch his howquick and special his brain is when it
comes to offense. Uh, changethis letter to this, do this,
do this now, show it tome, Okay, bring it back,
do this whatever. And it's likewhat and then you watch him go I
could I could outrun that guy inthe forty, right, I could do
I could do a I could doI'd be under seven. And then like

somebody runs a four to four,Like, do you think you're three seconds
slower than him? Yeah? Absolutely, Like if there's a plate of wings
at the finish line whatever, LikeHe's I could watch a game with that
dude, and I'd be like,tell me what happened? Much more endearing,

much more likable in episode two,and maybe whether it's their expectations of
what people think they should be orhow they want to be perceived, it
felt so real about both of themthat Brian Dable wants his players to like
him and wants people to come playfor the Giants, wants to get excited
about the offense, while Joe Shaneis a twenty fifteen year vet in the

NFL. Business sign of it thatthat's a business. I'm not here to
make friends. I am the boss. I am telling people their careers are
over. I am telling people they'reno longer employed here. Let's not make
it anything else that it is.I don't have to come off as the
good guy on the show because noone believes I'm the good guy. Plus,

have thought that they would have wentwith him. The editing is always something
you got to look back on andtry to figure out. It's almost like

watching film on Neighbors all day.I love that guy, like he's the

fact that your quarterback's not a hypeguy, how about your number one receiver
be that you know which I thinkNeighbors just will do that in a way.

But like that that piece that's probablymissing from the locker room as far
as a like raw row, let'sgo, everybody get moved and get your
blood pumping. You could have takenhim. He was there, he was
available, nobody would have hurt youfor it. But you took Neighbors.
So now now that's gonna that couldfall on him. Well, I'm sorry.
I feel like Joe Shane's answer tome, I didn't pay my quarterback

forty one million dollars a year tohave somebody else come up and put energy
in the locker room. Get itdone. It's it's a really really good
show. One little critics making mea Giants fan this year, it really
is. Yeah, I'm rooting forthe Giants right now. I like Dable.

Do you find it odd that BrianBurns Devin Singletary, Gosh, I
feel like I'm missing one other one, Brian Dable. I think it was
the third one. Joe Shane hasa connection to all of those guys some
way, you know, whether it'sthe Buffalo connection, whether it's the Carolina
connection, Dan Morgan being one ofhis best friends who's running the decision making
process at Carolina. I guess theWheelhouses, but I'll say, like that's

the easiest option. Hey, mybest friend's the Carolina GM. Let me
talk to them. Hey, Iused to work in Buffalo. I know
all these players. Let's work withthem. Should Giant fans be a little
concerned that he's just going to whathe finds the easiest rather than getting out
of his comfort zone for making someof these moves, Like they're selling us
on these players. They're good players, but he is kind of staying in
his comfort zone. With some ofthese, I'm glad you should comfort because

you he totally went outside of hiscomfort zone. Remember he walked all the
way around the building to go tothe Patriots. He did, and they
flat out said, wow, wedidn't expect you to walk in here,

are, so you can sit downand kind of have that that kind of

it. But I like the movesthat have happened so far, Like the
Brian Burns thing is the one Ithink he's I think that's his biggest boom
or bust move. Like maybe youcould say it's singletary because if he doesn't
work, people are gonna go wideand keep Saquan. But like what you
gave up plus what you're spending onBrian Burns, Like, I think that's

the one. If he goes he'sjust an average player. I think a
lot of people are looking at himgo all right, maybe you're not as
smart as we thought. You were, whether you play real football, fantasy
football, or the reality shows Ireferenced about ten minutes ago. The big
thing people talk about is eliminating risk. Do your best to avoid risk.
And maybe that's my answer, Maybethat's what I should be, like,

Hey, Joe Shane doesn't want torisk working with the GM he doesn't trust.
Joe Shane doesn't want to risk draftinga player he doesn't have a background
on or have a scout connected tothem. Eliminating risk could benefit the Giants.
I'm very intrigued. I'm locked in. I think everybody deserves, from
the Giants to the HBO crew,tremendous amount of praise for what this stuff

is because it's something It's really hardin sports to do something different, and
this is different, and it's awesomethat it's a New York team involved.
And give credit to the Giants.They're leaving stuff in there that you may
