Speaker 1 (00:00):
The holiday season, of course is here and there are
a lot of great traditions in our town having to
do with the Christmas and we're going to talk about
one of those with our good friend Russ Decker. Of
course you know him from Nutrient, but in this capacity
he's here representing the im of Rotary Club.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Russ. How are you.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
I'm great, Tom, and thanks for having us.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
Well, good to see you again.

Speaker 1 (00:20):
And the Rotary Club is doing their holiday home tour
and that is coming up Sunday, December seventh, from noon
to five. I guess it's a layout to how many
homes you have and what's going on here.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
Yeah, so we have five homes. We do this the
first Sunday of December each year. It's from noon to
five and you get to tour these some really interesting homes.
The oldest home on the tour was built at nineteen
oh three, and we have a home on this tour
that was just completed in the last thirty days.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
So the whole game.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
Of but from nineteen oh three to twenty twenty five,
you're going to just see some really unique homes decorated
over the top.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Now, the homes obviously have to be decorated as you say,
to make the holiday home tour, But do you have
some other criterion mind, either historic or architecturally, or how
do you go about picking the houses?

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, So we have a committee that looks at.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
If someone's interested in getting their home in the tour,
we look at the house, and we look at some
of the history of the home. But I give you
an example a home that doesn't look maybe super exciting
from the outside, but when you walk in the door,
it's like, holy, wow. Is the building that homes the
Allen County Literacy Council. It's on Spring Street. It was
the house that was actually build in nineteen oh three.

(01:34):
The builder was the then publisher of the Delphis Herald. Okay,
but the same glass of the woodwork inside.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
The home is like wow.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
When you walk in, it's you know, the craftsmanship is incredible.
And one of the really cool things in that home, Todd,
is as you walk up the stairwell, and it's a
gorgeous stairwell going up to the second floor, you see
this this It looks like woodworking on the walls. If
you take a very close look at it, it's actually
pressed leather. And it was a specially designed pressed leather

(02:06):
for Rockefeller for his home. This was some of it
that was left over and somehow this builder was able
to put it in that hallway. So it's it was
a one and done when they press this, when they
made this design the leather to go on the wall.
But we have it here in line and it's gorgeous.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
That's pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
We're talking with Russ Decker from the Lime of Rotary
Club talking about their holiday home tour Sunday, December seventh.
It's from noon to five and there are five homes, right,
so you do about an hour in each one or
forever take.

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Yeah, you know you're about It's about a ten minute
drive from house to house, so yeah, you're going to
be in there for thirty forty minutes. And it's a
great idea to get Christmas decorating ideas. We also team
up every house with some local businesses, so two of
the homes are are tiered up with some of our
local floors like Molars and Yasels. Then when some of

(02:58):
the other houses have goodies from businesses, so Sarah's Sweets
are at one of the homes. April's Sugar Shop out
of Harriett is time teamed up with one of them
and wine In's Chocolates.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
Is that another?

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Ah, well, now you're making a lot of sense. Of course,
we can't bring everybody, and this is a fundraiser of
sorts too, and you got to pay for this, So
give me the details on how people can get in
on it.

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Yeah, So the tickets are twenty dollars in advance and
they're twenty five the day of, So in advance you
can buy them online at limarotary dot com, or you
can buy them at either Yazel's Flower Shop or Moeller's
Flowers in person, or you can simply start the tour
of that day, pop up at any one of the
five homes, and you can buy a ticket day of
day of. The tickets are twenty five.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
So that would imply I can look up where the
homes are that you're going to be going through ahead
of time right.

Speaker 4 (03:47):
At lima rotary dot com. Well, the information is there
kind of a narrative about each house and what you'll see.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
So when you're in the home, do you have like
a tour guide or you're just kind of on your own.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
You're on your own.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
It's really kind of you just kind of wander around
from room to room and look at them.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
And again, some of homes will have a theme.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
Some one of the houses I know is going to
have a theme of a Norway Christmas. So all their
decorations and okay on traditions in that particular home have
to do with if you were in Dorway. This is
what Christmas will the example of Santa Claus, the suit
is green door way something.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Okay, yeah, gotcha.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
So when we look them up online though, there might
be a little bit of an explanation about those home,
like when it was built and some other stuff.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Absolutely well, it's a Lime of Rotary Club.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Their holiday home tour coming up Sunday, December seventh, as
always the first Sunday in December. It will be from
noon to five. And the website again Lima Rotary dot com. Yes, sir,
all right, Russ appreciate you. Merry Christmas and all that
todd same to you, man, Merry Christmas.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
