(00:00):
Live from Fremont's three experience in fabulousdowntown Las Vegas. It's the podcast that
celebrates our city. This is livingLas Vegas. Happy Thanksgiving Week Mojoe from
ninety five to five to bull ISin Toni from ninety three to one,
The Mountains, Sorry Daily Weekly.Look at all the things happening around our
(00:20):
city. And now that we didour positive week about F one but let's
keep it one hundred in real nowwith the afterglow of wtf one is some
call? Yeah, that was sofunny. The other one I saw was
F one and done, which it'snot. It's coming back next year,
right, So who watched the race? Let's start there. I did.
I wotch some of it. Iwatched the whole thing. I heard.
(00:41):
We're not supposed to call it arace. Someone he kept saying, it's
not a real race kind of whatdo you call it? They were racing,
right, It didn't really matter,I guess is the point they were
trying to save. It felt likea race. Yeah. As an infomercial
for Las Vegas broadcast to the world, I think that went pretty well.
I mean there was a lot ofglowing about the city. The city looked
spectacular on television. So look,I mean, you know we need tourists,
(01:06):
and tourists people who have the potentialto be tourists saw that from wherever
they may be and they thought, wow, that's pretty great, and it
is pretty great, but it wasa hassle getting it done. So I
mean, I have a net sortof positive about it. I don't want
to. I really didn't watch verymuch of it. I don't I'm not
invested in it emotionally or financially otherthan you know that I live here and
(01:29):
I don't pay state taxes, right, so I'm good with it. It's
a pain in the ass. Yeah, well said, I couldn't agree with
that more now from the outside lookingin, You're right. It was a
great glowing look at our city ina big stage in a way that gave
us some international exposure that we don'tnormally get. And look that track around
the sphere, it looked pretty Coolrettysick with the spear turning into the face
(01:52):
looking down on the that was prettycool. And SpongeBob and Patrick made a
little debut as they were watching theres Yeah, I saw some aerial shot
from people on airplanes looking down atthe race on the strip. That looks
pretty cool. What wasn't pretty coolis that I saw some videos of security
that they had hired for people thatwere walking, you know, trying to
catch a glimpse of the actual raceand they, I don't know, it
(02:13):
was a little aggressive for me.That was on like on Friday. I
think they kind of gave up onthat from what I saw. I mean,
people were sleeping next to the trackand stuff. I saw that,
But I mean, come on,man, we have concerts and we're gonna
have the Super Bowl here, Likeare they gonna limit the viewing for that?
Like why don't you want people tosay it? People were getting around
having to pay for a ticket bygoing up and down that escalator too on
(02:34):
the strip. Well, no,it turned into like long lines to get
up and down the escalator because everyonekept doing it. Well, just if
you're trying to get anywhere, likethere were a lot of people on a
Saturday night. It's ten o'clock ona Saturday night. It's a crowded strip
even if there's not you know,a big race going on. And look,
I saw the video of the guythat was getting aggressive on the overpass
or you know, the walkway.I don't think that's all security throughout the
(02:59):
entire race. I think you know, this happens on social media. We
get one video and we think, okay, well, must have all been
like this. I don't think thatwas it. I think in general people
had a pretty good time. Therewas the Thursday night issue where you know
they canceled whatever that was the practice. Yeah, I want to call it
that whole because of the problem withthe track, and then people waited till
two in the morning because they resumedit at two in the morning, but
(03:21):
they cleared all those people out,So there was negative stuff about it.
Yeah, but look, if you'vegot an estimates vary, but if you've
got four hundred thousand people in townto see this, or a million or
two hundred thousand, no matter whatit is, look they're gonna have issues.
There's gonna be issues. In theend, I think it was a
net good thing for the city. The marketing piece of it, which you
(03:42):
know, even the racers said, even the driver said, it sort of
feels like this is just a showand not a race. Okay. I
think we have to withhold judgment onthese numbers we keep seeing because we don't
have the final numbers and the finalestimates. These are all these are estimates
right now from F one. Whatdo you have? Well, well,
this is from Fox five. Theysaid the whaty event drew more than three
(04:03):
hundred and fifteen thousand spectators over theweekend. BBC draws three hundred and fifty
thousand. Okay, had an estimatedeconomic impact of one point two billion dollars.
That's crazy. I don't think wehave those numbers yet. I don't
think you can fully vet the impactfor a few weeks afterwards, because it
takes time to process all that.Well, I did see that something.
But if you get ten different peopleto do estimates and they're all sort of
(04:24):
in the same range, and thisis an early estimate, but if they
all end up sort of like this, I don't doubt those numbers. I
don't. And Justin Bieber was therewaving the flag. I was like,
oh, I wanted to do that. Rihanna did you see Rihanna? Rihanna
was there, Brad Pitt was there. That Pitt was there. I mean,
big stars come to Vegas. Great, we should have everything in this
town, including a massive race, which this could become massive I mean,
(04:46):
if it's three hundred and fifteen thousandpeople, that's massive, Right, that's
the Super Bowl times five, right, It's it's massive. Yeah. The
real winners are all these Instagram Vegasinfluencers that were just having a field with
the content. And I was consumingit just as much as anyone else.
Me too, But good for themfor being on top of it. They
really treated this as their quote unquotesuper Bowl as far as opportunity to gain
(05:11):
eyes and engagement on social media. So they did a good job with that.
I was certainly paying attention. Yeah, it seems like f one did
wine and dine the right. Peoplelike, we're going to give you some
access, so we're going to treatyou like like you're a celebrity like these
other celebrities, and you're going togive us some great press. It felt
like the press was a little didlean, a little more positive than the
tone of the city would suggest. And I'm talking about the press on local
(05:35):
news stations, where you're like,oh, the local news seems to really
be having a good time out there. It's interesting because everybody I talked to
who's not a local newsperson isn't reallyhaving a great time with all that.
Again, they might be clients forthose news stations, so they want to
get their chunk of change there percentabsolutely, and it'll be a bigger chunk
of change next year if you doa good job for us this year.
(05:57):
I get it. But a lotof growing pains increased, for sure.
Saturday night or Thursday night when theyhad to cancel, they didn't cancel,
they postponed it and then kicked everybodyout of the grand stands and cleared it
and then did the practice session orwhatever. But I guess there's a class
action lawsuit, was it? Demopolis? One of the lawyers in town is
treating this as a class action lawsuitto try and get the refunds for those
(06:18):
people who weren't refined. That's that'sa valid thing. I mean, they
paid two grand or whatever for thesetickets expensive, yeah, and not get
a refin. They got, likeI heard a reddit two hundred dollars credit
or something, which I don't knowwhat the credit was percentage of what they
paid, right, so I wouldbe able to see nine seconds of the
practice for let's say it's a thousandbucks and you got a two hundred dollars
(06:39):
credit. Still doesn't seem fair. No, I mean, yeah, let
us know, keep us posted onhow that how that litigation turns out.
Comparatively speaking, the Ed Sheeran Show, when he had to cancel it before
whatever the safety reasons were not cancelthe postpone it till the end of October.
He said, anybody who can't makethe other day can get a refund.
You know. They If you wouldhave said everybody gets a ten dollars
(07:00):
concession voucher, people would have alsoprobably lined up and started the class action.
I think. So it's just afair thing to do, right,
It's kind of a it's kind ofa crappy thing they did for that part
of it. And I get theother part of that is, how did
you not see a loose manhole ordrain hole cover. It seems that these
things should be triple checked before youput two hundred miles an hour race cars
(07:23):
out. Hey, I mean notto mention the guy who the driver who
discovered the loose manhole cover drain holecover was a little pissed, and rightfully
so. I mean, those areexpensive cars and you just ruined his chances
in the race, I know. And then he got fined afterwards I saw
too because of the whatever they didto the car to fix it, they
for some reason find them for whateverreason, was too I'm like, come
(07:44):
on, really, you guys shouldhave had that checked in the first place.
Those darn ninja turtles. I justthink it's crazy, dude, that
you're going that fast on that truck. Yeah, taking those turns. I
don't know. I was impressed.For someone who's a local, who's not
an f one, I truly enjoyedwatching it. I don't want to.
I just I just like seeing peopledo what they love to do and they're
(08:09):
good at it, and I don'tknow. To me, that's a reason
why I watched. I would saywe enjoyed watching it too. My wife
and I sat there on the couch. Again, we love the city,
so we enjoyed that they were celebratingthis city the way we do. So
I would say we enjoyed watching ittoo. But we watched twenty minutes and
we were like, we're good.I said fifteen, but I ended up
watching the whole thing. I wasasleep by nine, but I totally I
(08:33):
tried to stay up. I wantedto stay up until ten, not to
watch the race, but because youknow, I have a good perch from
Black Mountain where you can see thestrip plain a day. Yeah, I
wanted to one see if I couldhear the cars from Henderson same and I
did and I could not. Idid see if I could hear, and
I could not. I think Iheard the fireworks. I don't think I
heard that. But I wanted toalso see what the track looked like from
(08:54):
that perch, because you saw theaerial shots, and boy, that track
looked awesome. I know, Ikind of wanted to see that. I'm
mad at myself and I getting up, but I just like, I'm not
walking to the corner to go lookat that. I'm tired. Well it
was lit up for several nights. You're saying, not any one of those
nights did you make it to Wellmaybe next year. It's maybe. And
you know, I actually, rightafter we got done with the podcast last
(09:16):
week, I was offered tickets andI turned them down. I just I
didn't want to go fight all thatand get home at two in the morning
or whatever it was. And maybeI'm just a crotchety old man for that.
But no, if i'd been offeredtickets, I don't think I would
have gone either, because on aSaturday night at ten o'clock, I mean,
you know, that's it's a lotto go to the strip to see
a show for an artist that youlove. It's still a lot. And
(09:41):
I don't love F One, right, I'm curious about it. It was
interesting that it was going on inour city, but I don't love it
enough to put up with everything thatyou have to put up with to go
there. Now, maybe if it'sa group of friends and we're just it's
just a place to be, orwe're gonna have drinks and we're gonna enjoy
each other's company, all right,Well that's a different story. But for
the race itself, I don't thinki'd have gone. I probably would have
(10:01):
turned out not to but I thinkbut if Ice would have said, Tony
comes back, we're all gonna havea blast, and the race will be
going on too, then I mightgo anywhere. I didn't realize Mojo ask
because we're like, no, we'renot going to get it. I hate
you both. No, it's youknow, I didn't know the F one
had been here before I saw afterthe fact that there was a race in
(10:22):
like eighty two or something, andit was during the day, and obviously
Vegas was a lot different back then. This looked way cooler than that race.
Yes, it's changed since the earlyeighties. Yeah, No, it's
not just Vegas, but the waythe track was set up and the look
of the race, and obviously technologyhas evolved in a lot of ways since
then. But yeah, it's definitelyit's on a different scale now, f
(10:46):
one is than it was at Caesar'sin the parking lot in nineteen eighty one.
With it in the parking lot ofCaesars, I didn't know that the
without without the sphere, it mightnot have been as cool to me.
The sphear added such unique and andi'll say the word iconic display of Vegas
that you're not going to find anywhereelse. And I thought that added so
(11:07):
much to just the event itself. It almost turned into like it's a little
side show right there. Yeah itwas. Yeah, No, the spear
is awesome and adds to our andadds to our skyline every day. Certainly
did for that too. But evenwithout the sphere, lighting up the strip
and having people go two hundred milesan hour down it, that's cool,
right, I get the spectacle ofit all. Again. I'm not invested
(11:28):
emotionally in it. I was hopingthat maybe this year like it would catch
me and I'd be like, Ican't wait for next year. All right,
next year's fine. I'll probably dothe same thing next year that I
did this year on television. I'mglad it was a safe event. I'm
glad there is no you know, major incidents. And I saw that somebody
at the whin or not maybe not, somebody a collection of tips because they
(11:50):
all pull their tips. Yeah, and the dealers got like a million dollars
in tips and they all went homewith like twenty five hundred dollars or something.
Some of those kind of cool youknow, those Twitter accounts and the
different Instagram accounts that cover the citypretty well did say these people were spending
money. Well, now we're here, and we expected that they would.
Some of the low budget places didn'tdo as well as the wind did or
as you know, the Aria mighthave. But uh, good, come
(12:13):
in spend your money again. Idon't pay state taxes because you guys come
here and drop money in the casino. So I'm I'm all for that part
of it, and of course, very happy for anybody who made extra tip
money that night and had to putup with Europeans to get it. It
looked. I agree with that,Hey, come to Vegas and leave your
money. I think it exceeded myexpectations as far as the look though,
(12:35):
I thought it really displayed our citypretty well. It did, I agree,
And for getting the way Max tostaff and who didn't have great things
to say? Oh, you knowthe guy's name and everything. Yeah,
well, I mean he's kind ofbecome a popular name. Well maybe not
a popular name in Vegas, BanPat, Well, you got the first
part right. He didn't say greatthings about that. He was not impressive.
(12:56):
Yeah no, so Max, wesee you next year. I hope
you lose. Yeah, Ferrari isgonna win. But the race is?
Is that what the number two was? Oh? It was I watched you
really did watch the race, notthe race, I'm sorry whatever they called
it. Who was which team won? Number was? Number three? Red
Bull and fourth? I don't knowthat. I just knew the top three,
(13:18):
you go, because we were hopingthat red Bull was going to be
top one and two because I hada friend over who was like super into
cars and so he was just wewere just talking about how the different cars
were created and made, and RedBull had a really good car. Of
all the people on this podcast thatwould come with this knowledge, what made
the Red Bull car really good?Well, it is the way they exactly,
(13:43):
but I forget what kind of carit was, but this just the
way that they put it together, which just like the engine and like how
fast it goes and just all ofthat stuff. Dude, Well, the
teardown has begun and they say it'sgoing to take eight weeks. I hope
that they speed that up. Iguess they got to get all this track
and stuff to like Dubai or somethingin the next couple of weeks. Wow,
So they're racing to tear it down. They said eight weeks. I
was like, come on, canwe get that done faster? Well,
(14:07):
I want to wave the flag nextyear, That's what I want to do.
But I start one of those gofund me petitions whatever to get Ice
up there exactly. So that happened, and now we look forward to got
the holidays. He got Thanksgiving. Are you guys doing anything fun for Thanksgiving?
Are you staying in town? Mydaughter's in from Reno. Thanksgiving at
the house. That's the best.Got the whole family there. Yep,
(14:28):
that is it. Is there asignature dish at the Maddio house that you
got to look forward to? Ithink the signature dish is broccoli rice.
My wife has an old family recipethat's broccoli cheese rice and uh, kind
of like a risotto kind of alittle bit. Okay maybe, yeah,
but the rice is real, right, I mean, you know it's but
no, it's that's what it is. Is there chicken in it? No?
(14:50):
No, because we're having turkey onthe side, right, Okay,
we don't put chicken in the rest. I think you could would taste good
if you did that. I wouldn't. I was asking because you know,
maybe some left doers in the building. We can try some of all the
Yeah, I think it works foryou can have cheese, right, That's
where I was. Yes, that'sit will bring some in. I'd like
to try that. That sounds reallygood. That does sound good. I'm
the weirdo that likes the green beansand casserole things. Green bean cassrole.
(15:13):
Yeah. I know that's a polarizingthing. Some people absolutely despise it.
That's one of my favorite I'm goingto my friend Eva's house with her parents
and her family and and the kids, and we're gonna play some YACHTI of
course they get some games going, but they're doing uh, the turkey leg
of lamb, which I've never hadfor Thanksgiving before, so I'm kind of
looking forward to that. I'm bringingthe cheesy potatoes, of course, because
that's what I do, and thenstuffing, and then I'm going to make
(15:37):
a banana bread pudding which looked reallygood. I have to have pistachios,
and I have to have cranberry anda can. I have like, I
have things to make it Thanksgiving foryou guys. They're thoroughly hungry. Now,
is there a pie that you goto? What's yours? Mojo?
Yeh, the green bean casserole? But like, so, what are you
guys gonna do? Stay at thehouse. No, We're going down to
(15:58):
Palm Springs at Okay, that's rightafter a little mini family family reading on
my dad's side, and we get, you know, get all the food
that they have. It's amazing.They have a huge spread. I don't
think you're asking me to pick apie. I'm not going to do it.
The pie I'm yeah, I'm notgonna do it either. Three different
slices of three different kinds of pie. All the pumpkin. Pumpkin for me
is always my go to. That'smy kids too, They love the pumpkin
(16:19):
pie. Or like an apple piewith some ice cream and like whipped cream
on top. Sounds good. Namesome more pies pie. I'm not a
pecan pie guy. That's my favoritepecan Yeah, it makes sense. We're
very different. We just ask usabout the killers. Oh geez, we
won't do that again. We won'tdo that again. But no, Ian
(16:41):
is my favorite second apple pie forsure. Yep. But I agree with
you, Tony. Give me allthe pie. Give me the fruit based
pies, I think is where I'mferry pie pie. Yeah, the peach
cobbler is there, cobbler just piepeach. I mean, look, if
you by the end of it all, it's pretty much cobbler anyway, right
if if you do it, yousmash it all up. You know what
(17:03):
I read how many steps it takesto walk off your Thanksgiving dinner? So
yeah, I was like, Iwas reading this statement and it's like,
can you eat too much on Thanksgivingand have your stomach explode like it can
happen, but our bodies are builtwith mechanisms that it does not allow that
to happen, like puking. SoI was gonna say so, just so
(17:26):
you know, if you feel fulllike you're gonna explode, go to the
bathroom. And and you know anotherthing that I read, if you need,
if you need, if you needa plumbing service, call now,
because on Black Friday it's actually calledbrown Friday, because everybody needs plumbing services
(17:48):
on Black Friday, obviously for obviousreasons. Everybody's eating and going to the
bath got it. So what you'resaying call now, what I think might
have after I eat? That's interesting. I come with the knowledge, guys.
I read that the plumber. Iwant to see what happens if we
(18:10):
try to book a Friday appointment rightnow on Brown Friday. Oh stop,
What is the issue at your house? I don't know what it's going to
be, but there's probably going tobe an issue. I've read that if
you're napping by two forty five inthe afternoon, you're doing it right.
That's the average time that you shouldbe hitting the snooze button at that point.
And the other thing I read toois it's not the trip to Fan
(18:33):
that makes you nap, it's allthe carbs you're eating. You said you
would have to have about three poundsof turkey to really have enough trip to
Fan to make you want to takea nap. So I'll blame the trip
to Fan. Blame it on yourovereating of the carves. I blame it
on I'm tired. Like, justgive me a day off and I'll find
a way to get a nap inno matter what you freach, especially when
you have kids. Anytime you eatthat much food, though, it doesn't
(18:53):
matter what day of the week itis, you're gonna be still tired.
Yeah, heavy meal always does that. Yeah. And then why the Lion's
playing out like nine in the morningtradition. Yeah, I guess it's not
nine in Detroit. Oh that's true. Okay, okay, okay, because
you're on the West coast. That'swhy I know. Sometimes I forget how
does that work in Detroit? Peoplego to the Lions game and then they
have dinner after either that or Iknow a lot of people that do like
(19:15):
Thanksgiving brunches. They'll eat, youknow, like early in the morning.
They'll make it like a morning thing, and then they'll have the rest of
the day. I've always been WestCoast, so I've never had the luxury
of sleeping in on a Sunday. If I'm wanting to watch football, it's
always up in early. Yeah, the shopping kicks off on Friday. Are
you guys hitting the malls or tryingto battle any of the Black Friday deals?
No, it'll be shopping online forthe most part. You know what.
(19:37):
I kind of like being at themall at Christmas time. I don't
like to have to buy something whenI'm there. I don't mind the I
don't mind the cheeriness of it orwhatever you want to call it, right,
I mean, you know, themall's kind of all decked out for
the holidays. I guess it's justa tradition in the way you come up.
I mean, we all used togo to the mall to the store.
Yeah, you know, to leadup to Christmas. You don't have
to anymore, so maybe the traditionof it. I'll find my way into
(20:00):
the mall or whatever. I don'tmind that Townscourt is kind of cool Summerset
station for me. I like thatall too, But again, it's all
dressed up for the holidays. Itfeels like it's part of the tradition of
the holiday season. We're definitely inthe giving mood, right, so,
I mean the vibe is right.I don't mind being in them. I
don't really go to the mall foranything, but at the holidays, I'll
(20:21):
find something to buy at them all. I want to challenge our legion of
podcast fans and listen to this tomake sure that over the weekend, this
weekend, you at least go visitone small business. Yeah, it is
Small Business Saturday, they say,but really the holiday season should involve supporting
some local businesses that you know. What did I read that the big companies
may not notice your purchase, buta small business will. I love to
(20:41):
go out and support the small businessesthat you know, maybe somewhere you frequent
throughout the year, but make sureyou do it this weekend because those purchases
do matter to these businesses, andthey're all competing with the Amazons and the
Walmarts of the world. So absolutely, you know, try to buy something,
at least something on your shopping listfrom a small business. I love
that something to think about this weekand as you know, shopping, which
I haven't even bought anything yet Ineed to either. Last year I bought
(21:03):
myself some stuff. He did justbuy two, get one free at Target
on vinyl? Is there really?Yeah? To get one free? You
know, you buy two at thirtybucks, you get the fifteen dollars vinyls
the few right, So yeah,it's one vinyl this year mine do it's
a weirdo for himself. Well,I know, but I know I'm for
the kids. But they like ittoo. Yeah, that led Zeppelin album
(21:27):
was for the kids eyes, butactually it's some of the vinyl I bought.
Is like, is stuff that mydaughter who's twelve likes? Right?
Oh, I love that. That'sawesome. I think that's cool that vinyl's
making a comeback, so too, don't buy it everything. Swift sold more
copies of her latest album on vinylthan any other format. So wow,
(21:48):
one kid on my list is actuallygetting a record player for Christmas. I'm
not going to say who, incase they do listen to this podcast,
right. I think that's kind ofneat that that's making a comeback. I
love that. So but that's happeningthis weekend, and you know, we're
going to be going out to eatat some point during the holiday season.
So I just came in here alittle hot, little eat it. And
this is a good reminder for allof those who are living off of tips,
(22:11):
really yeah, to think about yourservice, because ice go ahead and
rant, yeah, you know modethe last two nights, I've had experiences.
And I worked in the hospitality industry, and like, I'm a hard
worker man, and I always,I always want to give the best service
no matter where I'm at. AndI don't care if it's a restaurant.
I don't care if it's Starbucks.But I was at or or should I
name it? I mean no,Tony says no. Anyways, I was
(22:33):
at a restaurant that was by myhouse. It took these bars. There
were probably three or four bartenders behindthe bar. It took them ten minutes
to even acknowledge us to get adrink. Then I went, we were
going to eat, you know, and we were playing a little bit of
kino while we're sitting at the bar. And I don't know if they thought
we were just there to gamble orwhat, dude, and I never got
a menu, And then it tookthem another thirty minutes to come back and
(22:53):
see if we wanted to order food. And like, by this point,
I could like see them congregating overby, you know, their little computers,
and they kept looking back at us, and they would look back at
each other and say something and lookback at us, and I'm like,
the next time he approached us,I said, did I do something wrong?
Is there's something going on here towhere we're not getting you know,
like proper service. And I caughthim off guard and he was like oh,
(23:17):
and he like he was like,oh, I run all three of
these properties. And I said,if you're running all three of these properties,
you are not setting a really goodexample for your other staff that is
here right now. And then he'sspit in your food probably who knows,
but it would taste a good anyways. And then once I, once I
said something, we then you know, start started to get better service,
thankfully, and then just to saysomething yeah. And then just earlier today,
(23:40):
you know, well Starbucks, I'mjust gonna say Starbucks, Starbucks.
Yeah, yeah, I have tosay that because I always have a good
experience there too, and today wasjust not their day house Starbucks. It
seems like it's just such a cutand dry, like easy, take the
order, make the drink, callyour name that you've never been to the
one at the airport. Clearly, how did they screw it up? Other
(24:02):
than maybe a long way no?No, I asked, they gave you
the wrong thing. I asked fora hammi cheese bag at sandwich because it's
one of their specials and it's rightthere on the thing. I said it
probably like three or four times. They gave me the ham and cheese croissant.
She didn't like acknowledge me until Isaid, hey, I'm gonna order.
You know what I'm saying. Andthen like they were like seven of
them behind this counter. I don'tknow, dude, I just think I
but the lady who tells you thatyou ordered something different, that's what she
(24:29):
said. That's that what happened.Yeah, And I was like, okay,
cool. She's like, well theycharged you for the croissant. I
said, okay, but I didn'torder this, but whatever, dude,
so I took it and I leftyou order on the opera in person.
These people are just there's zero commonsense, zero common sense. And you
want a tip for me? Uhuh? I tip everybody, even if
it's bad. We went to dinner. We went to dinner and I won't
(24:51):
say the place. We were outto a family dinner. The whole group
was around, and the food actuallywas great. But she brought out my
food and I'm like, I orderedthe red sauce. She's like, no,
you ordered the white sauce. I'mlike telling you, I ordered the
red sauce. I never get whitesauce, right, I never get it.
She's like, and you know, she sort of rolled her eyes.
She took the plate away. Holdon, before you take the plate,
(25:12):
I mean, like, how muchlonger before the other food comes out?
Because my family's all sitting here eating, We'll get it right out. I
mean, they did the right thing. And again the food was good,
but they tell you you ordered likeI would never say white sauce. You're
trying to tell me I ordered somethingelse. It's weird. You're right,
gaslighting? What that is making youthink of something otherwise? Of what?
(25:33):
You know? What? The truthand the reality is ghost lighting? Got
it? Have you? Have youheard the joke about gaslighting? Stop it?
You already pulled this on me?Yes? No you haven't. No,
yeah, I say no, Ihave not done that to you,
Tony. No. Have you heardthe joke about gaslighting? Boy? Oh
boy, I don't want to participate. You got to say yes or no?
No, yes, you have noSee it's so funny. Alright,
(25:56):
that's a good one. That's agreat one. But yes, tip people
this haven't heard you do that before? You got to tip? People are
on a holiday season, and thisis a season when people are extra generous
if they're giving you good service.Well, you say you would not tip
a person if the service is back. It's zero tip, No, no,
not zero. But it ain't gonnabe twenty twenty five percent, right
exactly. That is my point.Bad service gets what tip from mice?
(26:18):
Ten percent? Maybe maybe five ifI don't. If you if you really
got under my skin and I tipeverybody twenty percent, I don't know.
It's probably a problem with me.I just can't not for whatever reason,
I can't justify in my head thatunless somebody is horrible, and then I'll
just walk out like if it's awful, awful, which has really never happened,
right, I'll just walk out likethis isn't good. We're leaving right
(26:41):
right. I have done that it'sbeen ten or twelve years, but I
don't think I've never done Yeah,I've never done that. I hope we
never have to because the same that'snot a good thing at all. If
it's that bad, I'll walk out. But again, it's rare, rare,
rare. And I did do thismaybe twelve years ago. Well my
kids were very little, because theystill talk about it. Well, like
I say, tip tip to thepeople people listening. They go out and
go to these restaurants and places wheretipping is customary, do tip. But
(27:04):
if you are in the service industry, make sure your service is at its
best during the season of giving, because this is where the stakes are the
highest and you stand to gain themost potentially because people are in a generous
spirit. Why aren't they thinking that, I mean, there's so much bad
service out there. It's interesting. When we moved here, we thought the
service here we came from the Midwest, we thought the service here was better
(27:25):
than in the Midwest because we feltlike this is a service town, right,
people are in the that's just apart of our culture. Give good
service because your tip depends on it, your livelihood depends on it. And
also whether that customer comes back ornot depends on your good service. So
we kind of thought that then, but yeah, lately we've had some iffy
service too. I get yeah, and if you don't want to do it,
(27:45):
or if the season is too much, then get another job. Dude.
Well that's the thing. They justknow they can get another job.
There's that many jobs out there. We'll say the line, I'm gonna screw
this one up and the next one, you know, and they're usually the
service isn't because of something It's obviouslynot because of something you did. It's
because they got other stuff going on. This guy has three three stores he's
trying to run. Yeah, sothey've you know, they're they're outside stressers
(28:08):
are causing you to have a badtime. Well, so I tipped thirty
percent even for bad service. Wow, what's the most you've ever tipped.
Oh that's a good question, andI'll question you that with the company carter,
with my own, with your own. Okay, good. I mean
I know that joke wasn't anywhere nearas good as the gas lighting joke.
So that's why that's why people arelistening to this that are going to tell
(28:30):
that gas lighting joke to their friendsover Thanksgiving dinner. I probably have never
tipped you know, more than youknow whatever, thirty thirty five percent.
I mean, you know, itkind of depends how many drinks have I
had. If I've had a fewdrinks and the service was good, I'll
tip a lot. Yeah, I'vedone that. Or if you're cute,
I'll give you I'll give you abig tip. Or if you see somebody
(28:51):
struggling but still I mean, ifsomeone's you know, the only waitress in
the in the place and it's packed, then yeah, and she's still making
sure she's mindful of each table thatshe's serving. Or I will give more
than I normally would to those kindof situations because I see them going above
and beyond and when when you knowthey're dealing with more than they probably should
be as a person in that job. So I definitely tip accordingly there too.
(29:12):
Yeah, I mean that's probably theright thing to do. And if
you're listening and you're not that person, think about that. Yeah, exactly
how you would be handling those situationsif you have some empathy, put yourself
in their shoes, and if they'restruggling but still hitting the bar for expectation.
Give them a little more because theyshould. You kind of tell when
somebody cares, right, Yeah, obviously, you can get great service for
(29:33):
somebody who doesn't really care, butthey know how to give great service,
and they give you great service, and on they go. It's their job
and they're doing a good job.Other times you get a server who does
seem to care. You're there withyour family. There's a twelve year old.
This person gives special attention to theyounger. Yas right. They go
out of their way to make theydefinitely care, and it's not just about
the job, it's about something else. Somebody can give them a little bit
(29:56):
of something with people, Yeah, exactly, you got to be a people
person. If you're not a peopleperson and you're in the wrong industry,
each well, let's wrap things upby going around the room and doing the
cliche thing. But I think it'sthe right thing to do. What are
we thankful for me? I didn'tprep you guys for this, so I
know it might take you a secondtime. I need a few days to
come up with something I feel.I'm just I'm just thankful for where I'm
(30:22):
at right now in my life andmy career. I'm happy I have great
people in my life that I workwith that I you know, have met
here because I've been here for ayear and a half, you know,
and it's hard being thousands of milesaway from your family and your friends,
especially during this time of the yearof like the holidays, and so I'm
just thankful to the listeners at ninetythree on the Mountain and this podcast and
(30:44):
just like you know, showing thatthey do listen and they do care.
So it's like, I don't know, I just feel really good, and
that's what I'm thankful for. I'mthankful for all of the great success and
great memories and moments and people thatI've met and experience so far. Being
here in Las Vegas. It's cool. I like it, Tony. That's
mine too. And the city Likedriving around, it's just like looking around,
(31:08):
like, dude, Like I livehere, dude, and it's like,
you know, I've lived in alot of different cities and states,
and it's like Detroit's obviously going tobe home for me always, but I
do consider Las Vegas it's a homefor me. It's not my home home,
but it's definitely a place that Ilike I love going back to my
apartment and just chilling out on mycollege with my cat's smoke. Grand it
(31:29):
feels like home. Yeah, peoplehere don't have one home, and most
people who live here have a coupleof homes. I con consider myself a
Clevelander. And I'm from Vegas too, right, we've been here seven years.
I think at seven you can startto say I'm from here. Yeah,
born and raised. But this iswhere I live, this is where
my house is, this is whereI pay my taxes. But what I'm
thankful for is it's the easiest one. But it's the thing you're most thankful
(31:52):
for is that I have great kidsand beautiful and talented wife who has done
an incredible job raising them. Butthese these kids, thank the Lord,
healthy and they're smart, and theygo out there every day and they and
they make themselves proud and they makeus all proud. So ah, I
love that. I mean, howcan you be thankful? Really, there's
nothing else that matters. It's somethingelse. Yeah, I agree, And
(32:15):
the same for me. My family, My kids all happy and healthy,
and you know that could always change, and I'm grateful that it hasn't.
And I hope it doesn't, andby the grace of God, we'll be
able to say here a year fromnow that we continue to have the success
and the health that we have now. And I'm thankful for the three U
podcast and the team here, threeof us. I got two cloudy Yes,
(32:37):
I mean I have a Gemini.I was including smoke Man. And
I'm thankful to Christiansen who is willingto come and play our Santa Jam show
which we just announced. Oh alwayschanged mine. I'm thankful for christ Jansen
me too. It was my wife, but now it's christians He's going to
be unbelievable. He's going to melteveryone's faces because that guy has so much
(32:58):
charisma. You know, I don'tknow that's part. It's always supposed to
share this, but at one pointhe was offered to be the lead singer
of Guns N' Roses. I believethat it was the truth. He's good
friends with what's the blonde guitar guy? Is that? Is he Duff Duff?
Thank you? He's friends with Duffand before they got axleback, that
was an offer on the table.Wow. So that's the kind of charisma
and sheer entertainment value going to getwith him and then Parmealin and l King
(33:21):
who don't sleep on el King. You know it's going to be a great
show, and it's all tunds likeabout one hundred buck what thirty thirty and
a benefit sas Jude good, thankyou for setting that up, Tony.
Doesn't that sound like one hundred dollarstickets minimum? It sounds like more than
that. Right if you told meit was one hundred, i'd believe you.
You're saying it's thirty. Yeah, that's the Pearl Concert Theater. Yeah,
beautiful venue, such a great place. I don't have to deal with
(33:44):
the strip. I went over tothe Pearl free parking, free parking parking,
yep. And it's going to bea great show and an epicapter party
at the Ghost Bar, Tony,I hope we can get you off there.
Santa, you said you were Isthis a surprise that santacause I still
don't Well, it's a Santa.Yeah, he's going to be there.
We uh hopefully have that tied upor we're making some final negotiations. You
(34:04):
know, Santa is a busy guy. Yes, that was actual sat Or
Santa's helper. Well, hopefully it'sactual sand Unless he turns it down,
they will go for one of hishelpers. But we're trying to get the
big guy and it benefits Saint Jude. So you want to give back and
do something for yourself to give thosetickets. It's an all ages show.
Bring your kids, it's going tobe a party. Yeah, thankful for
that, and you listening. Thankfulfor you. Where do I get tickets?

the tip screen at chick fil a. Everyplace else has it. I don't
go there, but Subway, Starbucks, something like, yeah, why would
