(00:01):
There's a breaking ball topped up shadowright, Chugar going up. Castiano's coming

(00:23):
on. This is Luke and Ion the Phillies, brought to you by
Fox Sports. The Gambler. Ithought they had it. I really did
that. That was I was alittle closer than I thought it was gonna

(00:44):
be at the end. But ultimatelySpencer Steer uh hits a nuke off of
Connor Brogden in the tenth inning.Uh final red six Phillies three. Uh.
This is Luke and I on thePhillies. This is the first ever
postgame show. We're gonna have somefun with these. These are gonna be
chill, We're gonna hang out. We're gonna talk about hopefully more wins than

(01:07):
losses. But tonight obviously a lossand one that will be put a lot
on Johann Rojas uh for for abad mistake there on the basis, and
a lot will be put on ConnorBrogden rightfully. So, uh, just
just a really bad bad inning.Way more balls than strikes. He was

(01:33):
all over the place. I mean, the dude could barely throw a strike
for about four batters there. Butthe offense, I mean, the the
offense was nowhere after the first inning, and and that's really where I really
want to start. The Philly scoredtwo runs in the first inning. Uh
it started off with the Kyles sWebber single, the Trey Turner walk,

(01:56):
Harper strikes out, boone line areal mute lined out album double, the
right score two two nothing game,Phills go off to nothing. Give Christopher
Sanchez a nice little start, who, by the way, pitched unbelievable eight
strikeouts five innings. I mean,he looked, he looked fantastic. He
had thirteen swing and misses. TonightSanchez looked great Sanchez. And we're gonna

(02:20):
get into Sanchez once we kind ofrave about this this offense a little bit.
But following that first inning, here'show the Phillies went. Fly out,
flyout, single, strikeout, groundout, flyout, foul out,
walk, fly out, strikeout, ground out, ground out, pop out,
flyout, line out, single, ground out, strikeout, walk,

(02:45):
fouled, strikeout, single single baserunning mistake, flyout, strikeout, ground
out, flyout, strikeout. Andthen that tenth inning where wit Mayfield walked,
Rojas was out on the bases, grounded into that fielder's choice, and

(03:06):
obviously Trey with the infield single thereto make it give us a little bit
of hope, but ultimately in theend it didn't really matter. Bryce Harper
goes down something. Bryce Harper isstill hitless on the year, A pretty
a pretty brutal start to the yearfor Bryce. If you've been taking I
hope you haven't been betting a lotof Bryce Harper props, because I can't

(03:30):
imagine one of them has hit sofar. Tenant bats one run, not
a single hit, so not great. I mean, I mean, we
can talk Connor Brocken, right whichConnor Brocken is gonna get a lot of
flack rightfully, so Connor Brocket's notsupposed to be here in the first place.

(03:52):
The Phillies had ultimately nobody to throwinstead of Brockden in that spot.
The only real pitcher there available wasGregory Soto. But if I think like
Rob Thompson, and I know howRob Thompson thinks he didn't want a lefty

(04:12):
up against uh Sencer Steer there, which realistically you don't want to put a
lefty up against Steer. Granted hejust made a righty pay, which is
kind of just I I guess youhave to tip your hat to him there,
but just brutal from brutal from Brogden. But I do want to look,

(04:33):
I really do want to talk aboutChristopher Sanchez because the Phillies have something
here in in Sanchez ultimately gets theno decision tonight. Five innings, five
hits, two earned runs, eightstrikeouts. He was gross tonight, like

(04:57):
I for the first time him allseason, even when the even when Wheeler
was was kind of off a littlebit in his first start. That was
the most confidence, if I,that I have had in a Phillies pitcher
since this season started. And that'ssaying something. As the Phillies fourth starter

(05:19):
once again. This is the Lukeand I on the Phillies first ever postgame
show, brought to you by Inthe Clutch, your Place for all shirts,
headbands, hoodies, all of thatused code R Candy Luke. We're
gonna keep talking about Sanchez. Ifyou guys have any thoughts thrown down in
the comments, I want to hearwhat you guys are thinking right now,

(05:40):
because it's it is that one wasugly, that that that tenth inning was
ugly. But back to Sanchez, thirty eight sinkers, thirty one change ups,
he got up to ninety five onthe sinker at one point tonight.
He just looks so he looks sosmooth out there. He looks he looks

(06:00):
comfortable. He looks like a veteranout there. He doesn't look like a
guy that came up through the Philliesminor league systems and just really started throwing
last year. He looks like alegit pitcher for this team. It's nice
to have another lefty other than Ranger, because the Phillies have been longing for

(06:24):
a while, other than Ranger Suarezfor for another really solid lefty in this
rotation since since the Cliff Lee daysall the way back then, we haven't
had many great lefties in this rotation. And it's and it's nice to see
Sanchez. Obviously, he h hada great year last year. Came up,

(06:44):
had really no choice but to throw. The Phillies trusted him. They
threw a lot of innings at himlast year, more than he's ever thrown
before. Last year he only threwfifty two total innings in the majors.
Uh, he threw nine to ninepoint one innings last year in a three
four ar last year, Like that'sreally good for a for a fourth starter,
and and and and realistically, right, if the Phillies have a Taiwan

(07:10):
Walker healthy, that's a guy whois striking out eight batters a game with
a three four e R as yourfifth starter, which is unbelievable. I
mean, Christopher Sanchez is no doubtthe best fifth starter in baseball. So
it sucks the Phillies couldn't give himthe runs he dominated out there, and

(07:30):
after after that first inning, everythingtanked. It was, it was.
It was hard to watch because Sanchezwas out there dealing and the offense couldn't
just couldn't get it going. Granted, you have to give it the Reds
pitching Abbott looked really good the nightfive and a third uh just four strikeouts,

(07:51):
three hits, two earned runs.Bullpen looked great. Phillies pitching struck
out seventeen batters and they lost sixto three. They struck out seventeen batters
on the Reds. The Reds gotseven hits all night, seventeen k's,
four walks. They struck out oversixty percent of the guys that came to

(08:13):
the plate tonight for the Reds andthey lost six to three. So a
little comments in the Lanco Rob Sanchezhas been the best Phillies pitture development story
in a long time. Yeah.Absolutely, you're You're absolutely right. I
couldn't tell you the last time thePhillies developed a picture this like this,
Well, he looks legit like andand last year was awesome. He looked

(08:37):
really good last year. He lookslike a serious starter that when he eventually
is owned a contract, some team'sgonna pay him. Like some team,
There's going to be a team outthere that is going to pay Christopher Sanchez.
Another one Brogen also stinks. Gethim off the roster. Yeah,

(08:58):
one of the one of the wildesttwo season flips that I that I've seen,
uh from a Phillies pitcher. ConnorBrogden in twenty twenty had a three
point nine to seven Connor Brogen intwenty twenty one at a three point four
to three. Connor Brogden had athree point two seven in twenty twenty two

(09:20):
in forty four innings. In twentytwenty two, he threw eight and two
thirds in the playoffs and had atwo excuse me a two to oh eight
e r A. He had nearlya sub to era two years ago in
the playoffs and now it's just Idon't know what happened. He cannot command.

(09:41):
There is no command there whatsoever.Granted, Connor Brogden was probably going
to get DFA the day before O'RyanKirkering had the flu, right, and
there there is the thing with theforearm. For Kirkering, it doesn't seem
like that's really really the issue. It's it seems like that flu really is

(10:03):
kind of what's hitting them, andthey're just kind of getting them ramped back
in. So, I mean,it is it is pretty obvious now.
I think at this point Ryan Kirkeringis eligible to come back on April ninth.
I would be willing to bet alot uh that that the guy that
loses his job is Connor Brogden willprobably get DFAID. He is. He

(10:24):
is out of options. So it'sit's it's it's either Brogden stays on this
team, which I unfortunately he can'tanymore. And I was a big Brogden
guy for a while because Brogden wasgood. Brogden was really good the first
two years of his Phillies career.Even last year he was like doable in

(10:46):
the innings. He was out thereHe wasn't horrendous, he was not great
by any means. But Connor Brogdenis just just unbearable now. Just can't
basically can't throw him out on thefield. He didn't he didn't look good
in training, he didn't look goodto night, and he didn't look good
the games that he was throwing beforetonight. So let's kind of get off

(11:09):
the Brogden train here a little bit. I want to talk about Kyle Schwerber.
Kyle Schwarber is now hitting two ninetyfour so far this season. I
was told my leadoff hitter can hitfor batting average. I don't know another
two hit night for Swerber. Oneball to center, one ball to left.

(11:30):
Kyle Schwerber's using this whole field. And it's something that we've asked for
Schwerber since he got here, isto not pull the ball every single time
you hit the ball. He looksthin, Kyle Schwerber looks thin out there.
He looks good. He's running thebases like a competent like a like

(11:52):
a competent human like. He isout there running the bases, and I
am confident, I am somehow confidentwatching Kyle Schwarber run the bases right now.
It's nice. There was a bigarticle earlier from Matt Gel, but
I believe it was released this morning. He says. Kyle Schwrober still won't
say it. His right knee botheredhim all last season, and that's true.

(12:13):
Kyle Schwarber was dealing with that lingeringknee injury all of last year.
He never went through the surgery. But he lost weight this offseason and that
knee is healthy. He looks fast. He stole a base on Saturday.
Sunday, he went from first tothird on a Trey Turner single. And

(12:37):
tonight he is the reason early inthe game on that Tray slap single that
everybody scored, that there was runsscored. Kyle Schwarber is able to run
the bases right now, like heis not holding these guys back on the
bases, which I think is goingto go really far for this team.
Having a guy leadoff the big thingfor Swarm right this this this big and

(13:01):
everybody knows about the leadoff debate.Right should Kyle Schwerber hit leadoff? Should
he not? I'm a big Schwerberin the leadoff guy spot. I think
anytime you can put a threat onthe pitcher the second the game starts.
I think that's great. Anytime thatyou can put a guy who's could hit
fifty home runs every season that heplays into the leadoff spot. Excuse me.

(13:24):
If you can put a guy likethat into the leadoff spot, you
have to do it right. AndI get it. He strikes out a
lot. He strikes out two hundredtimes the last two seasons with the Phillies.
I get that you don't want ahigh strikeout guy in the leadoff spot.
But everybody that wants to move Schwerberout of the leadoff spot wants to
put him either in the fourth orthe fifth hole. And I don't know

(13:45):
why you would want to have atwo hundred strikeout guy in the four or
five hole. That's just me.But Kyle Schwerber right now is running the
bases at a perfectly fine rate.He looks thin, he looks good.
He's hitting the ball to the likehe's hitting the ball everywhere, which I
believe every single one of his homeruns last year was to right fielder center.

(14:11):
Granted he is he has been aa career pull first hitter. Just
the way his swing is designed,it's that it's that powerful left handed swing
with that full torque. He hasalways been a a pull hitter. But
it's obviously he worked on it.It's something that he worked on and and

(14:33):
it's it's paying off. Brandon Marsh, Brandon Marsh had a nice hit against
the lefty tonight. That that Imean, that's that and that's another big
thing right now. Marsh did havedid have multiple strikeouts tonight, but that
that hit against the lefty early inthe game was was a good sign for
me. I think Marsh is tryingto do everything he can right now to

(14:54):
try and prove that he should beout there every day. Sanchez. One
more thing on Sanchez too, thatstrikeout against Will Benson, Sanchez had some
fire to him. He looked helooked like like I am like. The
best thing about Sanchez right now ishe looks confident. The pitches are there,

(15:16):
the sinkers there, the change upsthere. That change up is so
gross, it it is so damngood. But he just looked confident.
Once again, if you guys arein here hanging out, thank you guys
for hanging We're gonna do these postgameshows kinda whenever we can after some big
games, after some big moments. They're very nonchalant. I just want to

(15:37):
sit here and talk with you guys. So if you're in here, let
me know what you're thinking. Ifigured everybody watching probably wants Connor Brogen in
China by tomorrow. I'm I'm I'mkind of right there with you a few
more things. Uh, you andyour marte looks really good, looks looks
really really good tonight. Eight pitches, six strikes. Just just looked really

(16:03):
solid out there tonight. You're aguy who is who's gotten a lot of
flak, especially last year that firstyear just just kind of with the Phillies
that five e r a last year, one six three whip. Definitely the
guy that took a lot of theflak last year, but just shows stuff.
He throws hard. Uh, thestuff is there. The sinker looked

(16:29):
really good tonight. The movement wasthere, it was it was down and
in. I'm just I'm still buyingif there's something there with you, with
you, with your I I havenot given up on this guy yet.
I will not give up on him. The stuff is there, if the
command is there, he's really goodand and I think he showed that tonight.

(16:51):
Jeff Hoffman once again looked really good. Uh just absolute stones on the
dude, just some soft hit.I don't really know why the Phillies were
infield in there and the first placethat that that that really wasn't on uh
Hoffman. For me, it wasjust like it was just kind of dumb
to have the Infilly in the firstplace there. Matt Stron looked good.
Twelve pitches, eight strikes, Younironce again, Jose Alvarado lockdown as always,

(17:14):
the one walk. Even Nick Nelsonlooked Okay, yeah, I mean
that's a tough game, no doubtabout it. Tough game. Big chance
to bounce back tomorrow. Philly's nextgame tomorrow six forty against the Reds once
again the debut of Spencer Turnbull.I am excited. We are doing a

(17:41):
watch party with the Fox Sports theGambler guys, a wrestle Mania themed Sixers
watch party versus OKC Thunder. Potentiallythe return of the one and Only Jewell
Empide could be a big knife fora watch party. Big shout out to
Sean Bernard, our Sixers insider,on basically predicting the night that MBI was

(18:02):
gonna come back a month ago.Uh so Spencer Turnbull will be going up
against Graham Ashcraft tomorrow. Uh thefirst outing for both of those guys this
year. Should be a nice bounceback game for the Phils. They need
a big offensive night. I needto see I need to see some more
on the offensive side of the balltomorrow night. Bryce Harper oh for five

(18:25):
Tonight, Nick Castianus oh for four, Bryce and Stott oh for three with
a walk. Uh wit Merrifield ohfor three with a walk. I need
the hits. I need the hitsback. This team is built to hit,
and if they don't hit, evenwhen you get an outing like that
from Sanchez, you can see whatcan happen. So any if there's any

(18:47):
