Speaker 1 (00:00):
We ran into an interesting situation this week since we
had to move to Tuesday night. We have, you know,
teams that are very busy on Tuesday nights, so we
could not secure a team coming in. But we figured,
you know what, we can still talk football. It's never
too early in the week to start talking football, and
we wanted to be able to do that again tonight,

(00:21):
and that's what we're going to do. We got a
whole show planned out for everybody, but first coach. We're
at week three now, and we always kind of use
the football frenzy to kick off what we're going to
be doing this week. And Week three looks like it's
probably going to shape up to be another really good
week of high school football.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
The thing that excuse me, the thing that I am
so happy about because you know, I'm tired of hearing
about the heat and that it's really cooled off nicely,
and I think the kids are enjoying practice a lot
more this week. And really it was getting to the
point where it was kind of dangerous situation. We had
several kids when out of Elgin, several kids that were

(01:03):
going down with cramps in their legs and so on
and so forth, so we're really I even saw it
on a college game last night, Florida State and Boston
College or guys going down with cramps. So it's really
nice to see that the weather's changed and we're working
into week three, and you know, we're kind of seeing
what teams are made of. You know, some of them

(01:24):
are two and oh, some of them are one and one,
some of them are rowing too, and they're kind of
sizing up the next opponent this week. And I think
the coaches are seeing more and they always continue to
look for more players to help out, especially schools with
low numbers. You want to try to get as much
depth build up as possible, and I think week three

(01:45):
is going to really tell us the coaches what kind
of team they.

Speaker 1 (01:50):
Have a lot of the schools are still in a
non conference schedule right now. The Northwest Central Conference started
their conference schedule last week. The MOAC is going into
their last week of the non conference schedule, so you
still have some of these teams not playing teams that
they're very familiar with, and that can be interesting. But

(02:12):
I also think the non conference schedule for most teams
does prepare them well for the regular season. We saw
last week with with Pleasant playing Hope Well Loudon. That's
a team that's really good. We're going to see it
again this week with some of the matchups that some
of these MOAC schools have, and you know, they're getting
ready for that final that that final last week of

(02:35):
the non conference schedule, getting ready for that conference schedule.
And the other thing that I like is that, you know,
high school football started two weeks ago. This past week
was really the start of college football, and now this
week pro football starts, so it's really it's that build up.
I like the fact that high school football kind of
kicks it off all together.

Speaker 3 (02:55):
Oh yeah, we really like you know, we talk about
it every week. You know, if you're not but you
don't have plans on Friday night and in some cases
some teams play on Thursday and then some teams play
on Saturday. If you don't have plans, go out and
support these guys, and I'll tell you it's really fun
to see that. You know, you get the bands out there,
and especially in the great weather because you never know

(03:17):
what's going to happen late September or in October, definitely
November when the weather starts deteriorating a little bit here
in Ohio, but go out and support the kids. And
these kids are out there working hard, and I know
they really appreciate it. If you can't make it out
to a game, we definitely want to invite you to
listen to Eric and I you know, on the radio,
and we'll try to do the best we can to

(03:38):
bring the game and describe it the way we see it.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
And last week we were had a great situation at Elgin,
two county teams meeting each other in Elgin and Ridgedale,
and I said it on the broadcast. I want to
say it again. We treated so well at Elgin. Jason Hicks,
the ad there, takes care of everybody that comes out
there to do a game. He takes care of the officials,
he takes care of the fans. And we see that

(04:03):
a lot with all the ads we deal with in
the county. But I definitely want to give a shout
out to Jason just how outstanding that experience was, very
hot evening. He made sure that we were all comfortable.
He took care of us really well and made it
easy to watch. We would be there whether it was
comfortable or not, but it made it even that much
better for us to be able to watch that game.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Yeah, whenever I go back, it's really just it's like
going back home. I was very fortunate to be able
to coach in that system over there for several years
as an assistant coach and also the head coach, so
I know what the people were like, and they really
treat you well.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
We used to.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
They used to really pride themselves on the chicken sandwiches,
you know, concession standing, the noodles, and I'll tell you
they treat you really well when we go, especially when
we go over there for a game. The assistant coaches
and also coach Winslow. We were INVI in the locker
room after the game, and it's just like old home,
going back home. And I know with you Eric, being

(05:06):
a graduate of Belgian, I appreciate that too. Their weight
room is fantastic, and they really I really like the
way that the kids respond to the coaches and the
coaches respond to the kids, and I think they've got
a good thing going over.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
There right now. Absolutely.

Speaker 1 (05:22):
Well, let's talk about week two the results for all
the Marion County teams. We'll start with Ashland Harding and
the Eriebell Trophy Traveling Trophy game and Ashland came out
on top to keep the Eriebell Trophy. Ashland fifty three,
Harding twenty nine. Harding is now one in one Ashland
two and zero. And really what this game kind of
told us about Harding. We saw them week one and

(05:44):
they looked a whole lot better than they did the
year before, but there were still some questions. One of
those questions that defense. It's very aggressive upfront with the
front seven. The back end is where we saw that
maybe they could struggle. Well, they went up against a
quarterback that can just toss the ball all over the place,
junior Nathan Bernard, and he definitely tossed it all over

(06:07):
sixteen to twenty four, passing three hundred and eighty four yards,
five passing touchdowns and one running touchdown.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
He had a heck of a night.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Well, one of the things you have to do, obviously,
is you got to put him on his back and
the kids, what six ' six and he's only a junior,
and we're hearing that some D one schools are really
taking a good look at him. And the thing that
I think he's added to his game is the fact
that when he does get a little bit in trouble

(06:37):
and they may have some design runs. He can run
the football and that's devastating to a defense. And I
know Harding's got some pretty active linebackers and they pride
themselves on their front four going in and the linebackers
putting blitzes on and try to get to him. But
I guess the way people describe it, he's sixty six,

(06:57):
he's looking down over the off you know, going looking
down over the defense, and he can he can find
the open man. He can read the defense. He's a
very intelligent kid and scanning the defense and he's getting
the ball out quickly. And evidently Harding wasn't able to
get to him on Friday Night.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
Now, one of the positive factors here for Harding. In
two games they haven't given up a loyards rushing against
Mount Vernon was only able to run the ball seventy
four yards on twenty five carries. Ashland nineteen carries for
ninety five yards, and it sounds like a lie of
that may have been picked up by the quarterback. Now
with Ashland they are very much a passing team. But

(07:38):
we saw with Mount Vernon, Mount Vernon wanted to run
the ball and they just couldn't. So there's still some
positives here for Harding and also their passing offense. Other
than you know, again, two more interceptions by Connor Paynton.
He's completed thirty nine to fifty five passes, five hundred
and forty nine yards, six touchdowns. He's completing seventy percent
of his passes. So there's a lot of positives were

(08:01):
Harding even after a loss.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Well, one of the things you've got to do against
a quarterback that type of an offense. With a quarterback,
they can actually possess the football like a running team
can by passing it, by throwing short passes and keeping
the chains moving, and if you don't have the football,
it's very difficult to score. Now, if there were turnovers,
Harding could have given him a short field, that type

(08:25):
of thing, and that's also devastating looking at Bell Fountain
with the fine quarterback they've got over there, and that's
an understatement, one of the best quarterbacks in the nation.
They got beat pretty bad thirty six to fourteen something
like that.

Speaker 4 (08:44):
He threw for over three hundred yards.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
The problem is their defense gave up thirty some points
and I guess Bellbrook is a team that they got
beat by runs a wing tee. So if you're going
against a very fine quarterback, the best way to keep
him from scoring and having his hands on the ball
is to run a ground.

Speaker 4 (09:04):
Game in that wing tee.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
If they've got the guys up front that can block
and can dominate the game. I've always said, you can
dominate a football game with an offensive line and you
keep the ball, they can't get it, they can't score.
So but if you get behind with a wing t
and then and that could be devastating to you. But

(09:28):
evidently it's working for them, and you know what, that's
what happened, and I guess that's probably what happened to Harding.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
On Friday, Pleasant went down at home to Hope Aloud
in thirty six to fifteen. Pleasant now one and one.
Hope Alloud in one of the best teams in north
central Ohio and they are two to zero. Looking at
the stats from that game, Pleasant really dominated the line
of scrimmage overall, only giving up ninety two yards rushing
in Week one against North Union negative ten yards rushing

(10:00):
held Hope allowed, and pretty well in passing, but they
did complete ten out of seventeen passes, so not a
lot of passing, but enough to be efficient. Only one
hundred and fifty one yards one passing touchdown, but there
were two rushing touchdowns and turnovers. They scored on turnovers,

(10:20):
and that's where that game was close until the fourth quarter,
and Pleasant just couldn't couldn't seem to get it done
there at the end.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
My guy from a Pleasant that was giving us, feeding
us to score and also giving us some basic highlights
of what was going on. I guess one of the
defensive backs went for an interception and then came up empty,
and the guy you know, caught the ball and took
it to the house. So that's the kind of thing
that happens. When you're talking turnovers. It throws all the

(10:51):
theory out the window. But if it's a sound game
where nobody's turning the ball over, you know, we can
kind of speak to who we think might have an advantage,
but when turnovers come into play, it just throws all
that out the window.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
You know.

Speaker 3 (11:05):
Speaking to the fact that Pleasant played Hope Well Loud,
who's a perennial playoff team and they usually go deep
into the playoffs every year, that's a good thing for
Pleasant because they got a chance to gauge what their
talent is and what type of team they have. And
I'm sure coaching staff had a really good week of
practice this week preparing for their next game and they

(11:29):
will get those corrected and those younger kids that are
playing grew up one more game. So looking to see
how they do this week.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
And I look at the team rushing offense, team passing offense.
Pleasant is rushed sixty eight times three hundred and twenty
six yards. They're averaging about almost five yards of carry,
about one hundred and sixty three yards of game rushing
and then passing twenty eight of forty three three hundred
and twenty five yards, four touchdowns, two interceptions, So they're
averaging about one hundred and sixty two yards passing a

(12:00):
game that is a very balanced offense. So it's one
of those things where I think they're doing what they
want to do on offense. I think the defense is
still aggressive. They just they had a few breaks that
didn't go their way, but it's still something they can
build off of. Definitely can come bounce back. So we're
going to go ahead and take a break when we

(12:21):
come back, we'll talk about the other two Marion County

coach John Cuzio and join us as general manager Mark

than it has been.

Speaker 11 (16:14):
A Schmid Schmidge cammer on a Tuesday evening than it
normally is.

Speaker 4 (16:18):
And yeah, well we do.

Speaker 11 (16:20):
That's one of the reasons we don't normally do this
show on Tuesdays. Is because we do the kids eat
free on Tuesdays.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
And there's not many.

Speaker 11 (16:28):
To be quite honest, with all the things I had
to do, I'm kind of glad we're having a calm
Tuesday right now.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
So I would say it if I was looking at
the crowd, it would look like, you know, the AARP
crowd eats free, right right. I know, I'm just saying,
I'm just saying they gotta eat too. Way, I'm just saying,
it's there's nothing wrong with that. There's nothing wrong with that.

Speaker 4 (16:50):
But their money's green too, exactly.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
No, it's it's it's I mean, it is a good
Tuesday Crowd's a good.

Speaker 11 (16:55):
Tuesday crowd, and we and we do do that. That's
kind of Tuesday Nights for the kids. Like I said,
you come down on Tuesday here, you get the kids
eat free. Of course, that's for every adult meal you buy,
you get one free kids meals and things like that.
But even on kids night we do the two fifty
Margerita's and three fifty Long Islands.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
Anyway, well, because the parents need that.

Speaker 11 (17:14):
Come to one of the truckload of kids, you might
want one or two of those. Yeah, so but but
The other thing about this week too, doing this on
Tuesday for anyone that it is listening, just to remind
you that we are doing the ticket giveaway tomorrow night
on Wednesday night, so you know, come on in for that.
Like I said, we've got the wing special going on
till five o'clock, so you can come cash in on
that and who knows when some tickets. And I heard

(17:36):
we had had a rough Friday for a couple of teams.

Speaker 4 (17:39):
In the yeah county.

Speaker 1 (17:41):
Yeah, let's I mean, we'll cover a little bit that.
Now we already talked about Pleasant losing herding loss. River
Valley did win thirty five to fourteen over Mansfield Madison.
River Valley now one and one, and it looking at
River Valley stats how they've stacked up.

Speaker 4 (17:58):
It's kind of like we saw last year. They start
off slow in that first.

Speaker 1 (18:01):
Half and then it seems like the second half is
where they turn around. And this is a team that
again has always relied on the past, but they're rushing
the ball a little bit better this year, averaging about
one hundred and thirty yards rushing a game. A lot
of that with Chase Ebert at quarterback. You know, coach
this looks like a team that maybe could get on
a roll.

Speaker 3 (18:20):
Now, well, they can definitely throw the ball, you know,
Eber can definitely throw the ball.

Speaker 4 (18:26):
You know.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
One of the things that you you know, River Valley
has got a like is the way the weather is
right now, and hopefully it'll hold up for them because
they are a passing team and sometimes towards the end
of the season they get into a situation where it
gets a little bit tricky out there with the field conditions.
So they are a fast track team and we're hoping

(18:47):
that we're going to get to see them in two weeks,
I believe, and which we're seeing Pleasant next week. So Mark,
you better be ready because next week we are going
to have Pleasant. We will have River Valley next week
and then Pleasant in two weeks, so so it will
be busy.

Speaker 11 (19:04):
Well, I know, both those schools really represented last year
when we came in. Yeah's the standing room only for
both those guys, So we're looking forward to having to
both of them.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Yeah, and then our broadcast game last week, Elgin beat
Ridgdale twenty seven to eight. Elgin now one on one
Ridgdale one and one. We've talked about this game quite
a bit because we were there. But Elgin just the
more physical team. And one thing that coach Chapman told
the Marian Star after the game is the big differences
the weight room Elgin just that's where they live. They've

(19:35):
got a great facility. And it showed, well, you know
when you look at the teams when when the Ridgedale
kids were getting tackled, they were going landing on their back.
When Elgin kids were getting tackled, they were landing on
their stomach a lot of the time.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
So which means they are they were the more they were,
the more aggressive. And then Elgin's defense, like you just said,
you could just tell with her tackle. And I know
the weight program is really picked up out there. They've
got a special room for that and uh so that
that means a lot. Also the conditioning and I think
Ridgeital had only two kids that didn't go both ways

(20:12):
and a night, like I mean, it was brutal, The
heat was brutal for all the kids on the field,
but uh, I think the Ridge Deal kids uh were
the ones that took the toll on the most. And
and like you say, the weight room, uh, coach coach
Chapman was realistic to understand that. So I know they
take a lot of pride in in the facility. We
used to have the free weights and now they have

(20:34):
all these different kind of machines. Machines, yeah, technology and
collecting data and all that stuff. I wouldn't be able
to coach anymore because I didn't understand all that stuff.
But uh, yeah, it's all about It's all about conditioning
and strength program in the off season.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
And they both both those teams went into that game
pretty pumped up, pretty fired up. And you know, we
saw it on Wednesday or Wednesday when they were both
here last week, Mark, I mean, they were both those
teams were really excited about that game.

Speaker 11 (21:04):
I was busy running around losing my mind the whole
time last week because it's about two hundred and fifty
people in here. But yeah, and it seemed a thing
with a coach Winslow and elgend And I haven't had
a chance to watch him this year, but it seems
like he's really really zero down that defense at Elgin.
I know last year, I mean they just laid people out,
and it seems like this year that's going to be
a big part of their identity as well.

Speaker 1 (21:25):
So Yeah, they definitely focus on the defense, and coach
Winslow went from calling the offense to calling the defense.
And you've seen that kind of more aggressive defense that
they run, and they've done a really good job. Well
and if you remember, opening up the game, he started
Harrison a quarterback, which was a surprise for us. Yeah,

(21:47):
and what better way to get the best, you know,
their best running back.

Speaker 3 (21:52):
He's going to touch the ball every play. Well, we
later found out that he started him because the other
sophomore quarterback was kind of under the weather during the
week and didn't feel very good. So but then he
ended up once they got a two touchdown lead. Uh,
I guess the quarterbacks start feeling a little better and
the coach felt a little better too, and he, you know,

(22:15):
didn't want a situation where Ridgdale got any advantage with
a young kid there a quarterback, and boy, he came in.
The young kid came in and direct, you know, managed
the team the rest of the way and played with
a lot of confidence and they were able to get
the ball to Harrison. But our player of the game
that we chose was I hit you too quick. You

(22:37):
hit me too quick, because he ran he was running
those counters. Yeah, it was I have it right here somewhere.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
Mentioned him.

Speaker 3 (22:47):
But anyway, they were running the counters and that's a
very a very good play compliment Rhodes. No, Rhodes actually
ran the ball on the counter. Yea quite a bit too.
We'll come back to that mans him. But anyway, he ran,
He scored two touchdowns. The holes were there, little misdirection,

(23:08):
They didn't really need to pass the ball too much
at all, and they pretty much dominated the whole first
half and took the wind out of Rigido Sales.

Speaker 4 (23:15):
All right, well, we'll take a break.

Speaker 1 (23:17):
When we come back, we will talk about the games
they're coming up this week. But you are listening to

Speaker 18 (27:51):
I was talking to an actor recently about maybe doing
a role in a movie channeling something in you that

kind of a cool concept, is that maybe there's something
that I want to express or Tyler wants to express
that maybe isn't really hossible.

Speaker 4 (28:06):
To do in everyday life.

Speaker 18 (28:08):
And it's a really cool thing to be able to
be on stage and get away with doing certain things
because you're performing, and so there's kind of things within
me that are able to come out a little bit
more than what could happen inside of a mall.

Welcome back to the Football Frenzy presented by McDaniel Automotive
live from Ralphie Sports Eatery and Marion. Eric Mosley coach
John Kuzio and we spent the first part of the
show talking about the games last week involving Marion County teams.
Let's talk about the games coming up this week involving
the Marion County teams, and we'll start with Harding. Harding

(29:01):
goes on the first road trip of the season, traveling
to Lima Senior Lima senior right now, sitting at two
and oh. And this is the team that's traditionally a
really good team, and they've had some big victories, I know,
a last second victory against Finley last week. Finley is
traditionally a very good team and this will be an
interesting ten for the Prexies going into week three.

Speaker 4 (29:22):
Yeah, I'll tell you what.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
This is their first road trip and hopefully we talk
about whether or not they're going to do a field
trip or a business tripsiness trip, and hopefully the coaching staff,
Coach Williamson and his staff are getting the guys together
and I know they're going to be coaching them up
this week. They're not going to get their dabbers down
and if they do, it's going to be a long
night for them. So they need to bounce back. They

(29:44):
got to surround themselves with their surround around their quarterback
on her Pennington, and they've got to you know, gang tackle.
They've got to work together defensively, and we've you know,
we had harding here the first week. We really like
their players, but they cannot This is really a turning
point in the season. You know, you know, it's hard

(30:06):
to believe. I said you could say that, but in
the third week of the season, they've got to go
out and play, try to play with some consistency. And
I think sometimes in the past, maybe you have a
team that comes out like Gangbusters, wins the first game
and then has an off night. But you got to
give some credit to Ashland's quarterback and the coaching staff

(30:27):
over there and their defense. Harding was able to score twice.
But I look for Harding to bounce back this week
and go up there and play their tails off and
represent Marian very well.

Speaker 1 (30:39):
Right now, ray J Scott Harbolet thirty five rushing attempts
one hundred and fifty six yards. He's averaging about four
point six yards or four point five yards per game,
two touchdowns. We know in the first game he was
just under that hundred yard mark. It looks like this
last game rushed about the same amount. And Harding wants

(31:00):
to try to work him into being a pretty good
rushing attack. But I you know, last that first week
was his first time really carrying the ball for a
big load, and he's still kind of working his way
into it. But he could become a threat for this
Harding team.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
Well, they've got to find ways more than you know,
more ways to get his hands on the football. One
of the things, who was the the most valuable player
in the first that's Parker David. Parker Davis. See, that's
the thing. You go from not being known. Mount Vernon
didn't know the quarterback and they didn't really know Parker

(31:37):
Davis too well because he was injured last year and
they didn't really could scout him unless they scouted him
a little bit in the in the scrimmages. And they
came out and they played really really well.

Speaker 4 (31:49):
Well. Now they've got a.

Speaker 3 (31:51):
Body of work and if the coaching staff is smart,
they're scouting your statu sheet and you can you can
actually stout, scout out. Okay, Parker Davis has this many catches,
as many carries, what type of carries does he have?
So every week is going to get tougher and tougher
for Harding's offense. But on the same token, they can
scout the other team just as well, So you know,

(32:14):
Harding's going to have to try to find different ways
to get the ball in the hands of their playmakers.

Speaker 1 (32:20):
And looking at their receiving or receivers. Parker Davis eighteen
receptions two hundred and seventy nine yards four touchdowns on
the season. He's averaging about fifteen and a half yards
per reception. But then you have Dylan Holloway Ray j
Scott Harbolt, who both have over one hundred yards receiving
and they're averaging about twenty one and thirteen yards per

(32:41):
reception each one. So there's a lot of promising things.
And then I look at the defensive stats. You got
a lot of guys that are in double digits and tackles,
which is very good at this point, and most of
them are the linebackers, Landing Keller Lucas Keller at nineteen
and twenty five so far on the season, justin Long

(33:02):
at twenty two, so they're the defense is very aggressive.

Speaker 3 (33:06):
Well, going back to number of tackles, that could be
good and that could be bad. Yeah, if you have
a lot of attempts because you're on defense, if they're
if they're on long drives against them, then they're going
to make a lot of tackles. So sometimes stats can
be a little bit deceiving. It's just like you say, well,
this team is great against the run, but they gave
up five touchdown passes, so you know you can kind

(33:29):
of you have to look and see who who the
guys are, who's making the tackles, what type of plays,
and what type of teams are playing against, Because you
could be playing against a strictly running game running team
and you could say, well, we're great against the pass,
but they had over three hundred yards on the ground.
So you got to take stats with a grain of salt,

(33:50):
and you've got to understand the type of team you're
playing against.

Speaker 1 (33:53):
River Valley travels to Buckeye Valley take on a former
MOA Sea rival for them. Buck Valley sits at one
in one, I believe, and also River Valley at one
in one and River Valley, like we said in the
last segment, looks like they're starting to really put that
first loss behind them, and you kind of hope to

(34:14):
continue that this week. Chase Ebert right now forty seven
ninety seven passing five hundred and twenty five yards, five touchdowns,
but he does have four interceptions, but he's also doing
it with his feet two hundred and twenty seven yards rushing.
He is their big rushing attack.

Speaker 4 (34:31):
Really.

Speaker 1 (34:32):
The next highest rushing total is Honor Jennings five carries
for thirty three yards, So it looks like coach Waddle
is allowing him to kind of do the RPO run
pass option, which works really well I would think in
that spread offense.

Speaker 3 (34:48):
Well, once he runs the ball enough, the team's going
to have to start coming up and then his receivers
are going to open up, and that's the whole premise
of that. I really like River Valley in this one.
I'm not sure how strong Heath is that you know
they Buckye Valley beat Heath twenty one twenty they lost

(35:10):
to Hayes. If if I'm not mistaken, Buckeye Valley usually
has a pretty good way with beating Hayes. They usually
have that as an opener every year, and I think
they usually beat them, so this year they didn't beat them.
I'm not sure how strong Hayes is, But I really
like River Valley. They're going on on waight trip here

(35:30):
they and sometimes when you go away your team bands together.
It's uh, it's kind of a unique thing there. You
don't have any distractions like at home, you have to
get the school earlier. After school's over, you go out,
let the kids go out. Some teams stay have a
team meal. Some team. People let them go and get

(35:50):
something to eat and then they come back and meet.
When you get on that bus, you're there. You're at
You're a unit and usually things are quiet, so you
get to you have to think of out your assignments
and sometimes that bond is a team together. And I
really like River Valley in this situation. They're going away,
they're one and one, they're still trying to find their identity. Yeah,

(36:11):
and I know coach the coaching staff is probably looking
forward to this going away and hopefully his team will
bond together and come up with a victory on Friday night.

Speaker 1 (36:20):
Also, Eli Snyder, Luke axe Line, Carter Park all over
one hundred yards receiving. Eli doesn't have any receiving touchdowns,
but he did have an interception return for a touchdown
last week. And Luke axelank A, Carter Park, Logan Crebs,
Colton Lang all have touchdown receptions for River Valley. North
Baltimore travels to Elgin, both teams sitting at one and one.

(36:44):
I believe actually North Baltimore maybe and two, but we
do know we did watch them last year. North Baltimore
was a team that didn't have a ton of talent,
but they had a really good freshman quarterback. He's back
as a sophomore, but again playing an Elgent team that's
very physical. It'll be interesting to see North Baltimore trying
to pass. Will they have time for their quarterback to

(37:06):
pass against a really aggressive Elgin defense.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
Well, I think they are owing to They lost to
Harden Northern thirty to thirteen, which hard. Northern usually is
pretty strong, definitely strong. And then they lost to Van
Lou fifty six to or they beat Van Lou fifty
six to fourteen. A mistakes right, one and one, they're
one and one. Yeah, they beat Van Lou fifty six

(37:31):
to fourteen. I really like Elgin this week. I think
Elgin getting beat by Cartington the first game of the season.
Cardington exploited some of their things and weaknesses. Their secondary,
I guess had some assignments. Guys were wide open. This
will be the third game, so they the second time

(37:51):
they're going to be playing against a passing team. They've
had two weeks now to correct those mistakes. I think
they came out of the game pretty healthy despite of
the heat and all of that. We talked about their conditioning.
Coach Winslow's going to have them ready. They're playing at
home again, second home game in a row. They should

(38:13):
be excited and I I really don't think there's gonna
be a letdown. And I like Elgin's chances this week.

Speaker 1 (38:21):
And Elgin just you talk to them after that game
last week, even after their first game that they lost,
they really felt like they just kind of handed a
game away to Cartington. So they want to keep the
momentum going. And the other game other than our broadcast game,
Ridgemont at Ridgdale. Ridgdale at one and one, Ridgemont at

(38:43):
zero to two. Ridgemont traditionally not a very powerful team.
This could be a very good bounce back game for Ridgdale.

Speaker 4 (38:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (38:51):
I really like coach Chapman and the rockets chances this
week at home. They're coming back home after playing away.
They're not real happy with their performing against Elgin. I
think it's going to be cooler. I think that could
help him. I know coach Chapman, he's a real upbeat person.
He's going to coach him up this week. He's not
going to coach him down. And he's going to bounce

(39:12):
back and his team, his staff, I know a lot
of the guys on the staff and those kids at
Ridgdale should be happy about coming back home, playing at home,
and I look for Ridgdale to knock Ridgemont off this
week and.

Speaker 4 (39:24):
It will be interesting to see.

Speaker 1 (39:25):
They had some guys that went down, not nearly as
bad as they did the year before against Elgin. I
think a lot of guys were able to stay in
the game. How injuries might affect Ridgdale this week, but
I agree with you, coach. I think Ridgdale does bounce back.
I think they know what they did wrong that last game,
and sometimes you just play a better team. But I
think going into this game they really feel like Ridgemont

(39:47):
is that team that they can really compete with. So
that's a rundown of the other area of games. When
we come back from break, we will talk about our
broadcast game this Friday night. Whitehall yurling at Pleasant Please

Speaker 1 (43:25):
Welcome back to the Football Frenzy presented by McDaniel Automotive
live at Ralphie Sports Eatery. We're into our last segment
Eric Boseley alongside coach John Cuzio, and right now let's
talk about our broadcast game this Friday, our first trip
to pleasant as Whitehall Yurling travels to Pleasant Whitehall Yearling
zero to two. So far on the season, they have

(43:47):
lost to Hamilton Township twenty one to nothing in week one,
in Northland thirty seven to twelve Week two, Pleasant one
in one, beating north Union forty four to nothing Week
one and lost to Hope Allowed in thirty six to
fifty team. On paper, it would seem like this isn't
much of a matchup, but you always got to be
a little aware when you have basically a city league school,

(44:09):
even though they aren't in the city league from Columbus,
they play a lot of bigger teams. It'd be interesting
to see how that translates coming into Marion County and
playing a county school that sometimes it's a little bit
different environment. I do think Pleasant has the horses to
get this done. Number one starts with Owen Lowry at quarterback.

(44:30):
Twenty eight to forty three, passing three hundred and twenty
five yards, four touchdowns, two interceptions. He's averaging about one
hundred and sixty two yards passing a game. He's starting
off the season pretty well.

Speaker 18 (44:42):
Well.

Speaker 3 (44:43):
When you play the team the bounce back game for Pleasants,
you don't really want to be that team. Yeah, necessarily
because coach Westerner's going to have his troops focus this week.
They have so many high expecttions going into this season,
and when they got beat really kind of as bad

(45:04):
as they did, they were really hanging tough, had some
mis cues, some turnovers, and they ended up getting beat
by a really good, hope We'll allowed team I look for,
and I have some other special interest in this game
because coach Rod Lightfoot is a son of Milt Lightfoot.
Rod actually played at Elgin years and years ago, and

(45:28):
his dad, Milt Lightfoot, was my defensive coordinator and was
a coach there for several years and was a school
teacher there. So I have a lot of special interest
in this game. Coach Lightfoot, I know, has had some
really good success. He was at Worthington for a while,
he's at now he's at Whitehall Yearling and has some
success there, and it's it's kind of cool to see

(45:51):
somebody coming back into the area who who was from here.
And uh, you know, I'm gonna say Coach Lightfoot's going
to have his team red and he's going to be
psyched up because whether he's a white Hall Yearling or
at Elgin, that rivalry of Pleasant is always going to

(46:12):
be there. So I look for coach Lightfoot to have
his team all fired up. But on the other hand,
I also do also agree with you the fact that
Pleasant has has the troops to do it, whether or
not they can get focused. They're they're playing at home
and once again we're going to be there for the

(46:32):
game of the week and I look forward to really
having an exciting game.

Speaker 1 (46:36):
Yeah, and you look at the stats a little bit here,
it looks like Pleasant really going with that running back
by committee again this season. Drew Niederhauser is kind of
the big carrier there. He is one hundred and twenty
yards rushing averaging five yards per carry, so he gets
a good amount of the rushes. But you also have

(46:57):
Ryan Conway averaging all almost seven yards of Carrie Owen
Lowry's averaging three yards of carry, Christian Burns averaging eight
yards of carry. These are all guys that are gaining
the ball a lot. And you know, last season, we
didn't know what coach Westler's offensive perspective was because we
were just learning it. Now it's becoming kind of evident

(47:18):
just looking at what they're doing on paper talking to
other people that are in the know. He likes to
have a few different running backs he can use, and
we know from last season he puts people in motion,
he's handing the ball in misdirections, he likes to counter,
and he wants a quarterback that can run as well
and pass. And it seems like he's been able to
build that and add on to that this season. Well,

(47:39):
good coaching staffs figure it out from week to week,
and I know coach Westler probably has a couple of
nights lost the sleep trying to figure it out. But
he's got a good staff over there and they're going
to try to figure out how to keep the ball
play possession football, and really that's what it's all about.
You have to dominate the game on the offense on

(48:01):
the offensive line, have a defense that can stop somebody
once in a while, and you got to obviously score
more points and win the turnover game. You got to
get takeaways on defense, and you've got to keep from
giving the ball up on offense and get some scores
at the end of each drive. I really like the
fact that these teams are playing possession football. Really really

(48:25):
have a good spot in my heart for those kind
of teams. To keep the ball, keep the ball in bounds,
don't go out of bounds, especially once you get a
touchdown lead or to score lead. You have to shorten
the game as much as you can, especially in this
hot weather so early in the season. But I think
coach Westler and his staff will get it figured out
and they will distribute the ball to as many people

(48:48):
as they can. And I really like Larry quarterback. This
is this fourth year plus three games, so you know
he's going to be their guy. He's going to be
when they need yardies, He's going to go to it.
Pass the football.

Speaker 3 (49:00):
But one of the things I like to hear is
how Mark Fole, the manager of general manager of Ralfie's,
feels about this football game. He probably liked to get
his two cents in.

Speaker 11 (49:11):
I didn't know that had a four year starter. Yeah, quarterback,
that's something nice to have. And I then to be fine,
not to change subject on you or anything, but I did.
Did I hear the lightfoot name get dropped from there?
Remember that guy? I liked him a lot. I was
scared of him, but I like him.

Speaker 15 (49:28):
The head.

Speaker 4 (49:30):
Was a science teacher, yes, yeah, in middle school.

Speaker 11 (49:33):
Yeah, absolutely, remember that guy. That's a name dropped from
the past.

Speaker 1 (49:38):
If you can't tell, there's a lot of Elgin people
right here, we.

Speaker 11 (49:40):
Can't stick on it too long. We call it bias before. Yeah,
but uh no, I know, I know coming in the season,
A Pleasant was one of those teams that I thought
was going to have a really good year. I was
surprised they lost last week. So, uh, I'm gonna be
paying attention. I haven't had a chance to go see
anybody yet, but like you said, it's really early in
the season, so hopefully I'll make it out there. And
uh started holding hands and shaking some hands, hand out

(50:02):
some Ralfie Bucks, things of that nature, you know.

Speaker 1 (50:04):
Like start kissing hands and shaking babies.

Speaker 4 (50:06):
Right.

Speaker 1 (50:06):
Yeah, well, Mark, I'm glad you had us out here again.
A little bit different setup for us, but it was
still a lot of fun. We got about two minutes left.
Give us just a rundown again of specials because we
do have the Buckeye ticket giveaway.

Speaker 11 (50:21):
Move away is tomorrow, and like I said, we'll be
doing the Wing Special up until five o'clock and also
Happy Hour up until five o'clock. We're also doing like
I said, every day seven days a week, open to
close is the two fifty Margarita three fifty Long Island
Special if you're interested in that, so you can come down,
win some tickets, get some modestly priced wings best in town,

(50:42):
and watch your Buckeyes go win another seventy point game
on Columbus this week.

Speaker 3 (50:46):
To add on to what Mark just said, I am
a definite proponent of the Caribbean sauce on the Wings.

Speaker 4 (50:53):
I'm telling you why.

Speaker 11 (50:54):
An extra jar week just for you.

Speaker 4 (50:56):
There you go, all right, guys, Well, it's good to
see u ye.

Speaker 1 (51:00):
Thanks again for joining us tonight, Coach, as always a pleasure,
and we hope that you will join us this Friday
for the Matthew Hondai Matthew honda Akra High School Game
of the Week where Pleasant will be hosting Whitehall Yearling.
We will go on the air at six point thirty
in the evening live from the stadium and join coach Couzio, myself,

(51:23):
Scott Cameron will be back on the sideline and it
should be a lot of fun. We always have a
ton of fun at Pleasant and they are always a
great hosts for us. We enjoy being out there. But
thanks again for listening to us tonight on the McDaniel
Automotive Football Frenzy. We enjoy doing this for you. And
