Speaker 1 (00:05):
You know what day it is, Wednesday, so you know
where we're at. We are at Ralphie's Sports Eatery for
the McDaniel Automotive Football Frenzy. We are live from Ralphie's
Sports Eatery and Mary and Eric Moseley along with coach
John Kuzio and coach Week four coming up on us.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
What do you think of that? I'll tell you it's
flying by.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
I tell you the weather is starting to mild up
a little bit for football. I think the evenings are
going to be great down the road. It looks like
the forecast for this Friday is going to be a
gorgeous weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
We're looking forward to it.
Speaker 3 (00:36):
Ontario will be in the house this week playing River
Valley at their home field and we're really looking forward
to High on the hilltop, actually high on the press
box top maybe Yeah, best view in town and we're
really looking forward to it.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Yeah, it's been, as you know, three weeks has just
flown by, and we've already talked to a lot of
the teams so far this year and we've seen a
lot of the teams. River Valley the last county team
for us to see liven in person and that will
be this Friday on the Matthews sont Accurate Game of
the Week, and we will be at River Valley as
(01:14):
they take on Ontario, who is three and o right
now and has that quarterback Bodpin Miller, who is an
Ohio State commit and he is going to sign with
the Buckeyes, but for a different position. He will be
playing wide receiver in college. He is quarterback. But that's
not all that that team is about. We'll get into
that as we go on tonight. But it's been a
(01:36):
lot of fun being here every week and again the
River Valley Vikings are starting to come in. The fans
have already shown up. We've had people saving seats, the
team is coming in. Coach Waddle is here, the coaching staff,
so it's that feel we always know the Vikings are
going to show up and represent.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
Yeah, they really do.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
All the county schools plus Harding, you know, consider that
county school all the schools. We had what Elgin Ridgdale
a couple of weeks ago in here together and boy,
it was a football frenzied on that day. And last
week we just had just you and I and yeah
and visited and talked football It was really great, went
(02:17):
really fast and had a good time. So we're happy
to have River Valley in here tonight. They're doing some
good things. Two and one on the year. Coach Wattle
just came in visited with him a second and I'm
sure he's really anxious to get on the air and
tell us about his team.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
And if you are listening and are thinking about coming out,
come on out. You want to get out here before
it gets too crazy. But if not, keep listening. We
want everybody to hear the show. We've got a lot
to cover, but first we want to talk about the
Week three results for the Marion County teams.
Speaker 2 (02:48):
Last week.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
It was an up and down week last week for
the Marion County teams. We'll start with Harding. They traveled
to Lima Senior, put up a great battle against Lima Senior,
but did end up going down on forty nine to
twenty four to line of Senior. Harding is now one
and two that game. As I read about it talked
to some people that were there, Harding really played well
(03:10):
for the most part in that game, shut down the run,
which is something that Limas Senior likes to do. But
they have a very good quarterback and they just started
putting the ball up. And we've seen harding already this
year where the defensive backs have struggled a little bit
because they're guys that are new to the positions and
they just weren't able to keep up with senior.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, and you go against the senior junior oriented team
like lionas senior, it's very difficult, especially they can exploit
a very inexperienced secondary. You know, Connor Pennington is doing
a pretty good job. I know he's thrown some interceptions
this year. The team has got to continue to back
him and they've got to continue to work together as
(03:51):
eleven maon unit, on offense and put more points on
the board and give the opportunity for the defense to
get off the field. And that's what they've got a
face each and every week. The coaching staff is really
working hard. I tell you, we know all those guys
and we've talked to them several times. They're an enthusiastic
bunch and if they can, if they will, the players
(04:14):
will stick with the coaches. The coaches are definitely gonna
stick with the players and they're going to really continue
to bond and hopefully they'll have some good games down
the road.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Hardy and only giving up two point nine yards per
carry on defense this season is just shutting it down
when it comes to the run game, but giving up
twenty one point three yards per completion. So it's very
much a give and take there with the Prexies. But
I really believe that that program is headed in the
(04:44):
right direction. They're just a few different plays probably away
from being a team that could be two and one
or three.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
And oh yeah, I mean they you know, they work
the kids. I know several of the kids on the team,
and you know, they work really hard.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
I think coach Williamson, this is in his second year.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
He talked about how things as far as the learning
curve has become easier for them to be able to
know their assignments.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Now they've got to execute and.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
It's about consistency and they know that and that's what
they're going to try to work for.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Each and every week.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
The thing they're kind of at a turning point right now,
being one and two. They played a really good game
against Mount Vernon. In the last two weeks, they've given
up a lot of points defensively, could be on turnovers.
Like you say, we've talked to some people, it's a
combination of a number of things. Big plays against them,
but people can't grind the football down the field on
(05:38):
them on the ground, so that's a good sign. But
they've got to get some things short up in the
secondary and get a better pass rush.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
And we're really rooting for him this week.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Onto the game that we were at, Pleasant defeated Whitehall
forty eight to six, Pleasants now two and one. We
got to see a lot in that game. One thing
that I noticed that in that game, and we kind
of touched on it during the game, is that Pleasure
just doesn't take their foot off the pedal. And it's
not a matter of necessarily trying to demoralize the other team.
It's it's just we've got to keep going because we're
(06:09):
going to face teams that are that are very good
that if we back off when we have a lead,
we're really going to struggle. I like the way that
they keep the pressure on the team they're playing every week.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Well, here's the thing that happened last week. You have
Pleasant who had has had a lot of high expectations
coming into the season, and they got.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Knocked off the week before.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
You never want to play a team that just got
knocked off, especially if it's a program like Pleasant who's
up on the up and coming. They maybe two years ago,
three years ago, when they're just trying to find their
identity with a lot of young players and new coaches
on the staff.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
You know, okay, but not last week.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
You know, Coach Lightfoot brought his team in from Whitehall
and they they really hit a meat grinder right off
the bat. They stepped their foot off the bus and
they start getting hit, so I mean, and then it
didn't stop till to the Zeros were on the board.
And Pleasant is trying to build their identity for the season,
and they've got a really tough game this week, and
(07:08):
this is where it all starts. First MOAC game, and
I'm really looking forward to seeing how the team stays together.
But you know, Pleasant's going to be consistent and it's
a program that's up and coming, and looking forward to
seeing how they trek the rest of the season.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Before we get onto the other games, we got Mark
full the manager of Ralfie's here. I want to make
sure to talk to him real quick before he gets
taken away. By this crowd of Vikings. But Mark, thanks
for having us here again. What do you think of
all this? Wait a minute, there you go.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
He sounded better when his.
Speaker 4 (07:42):
Mic wasn't a much better with the Mike Colluf absolute
absolutely no, no, I'm well hey, as you can tell,
it's going to be a lot of same with last year,
River Valley just coming in and making a great showing
for us. They did it twice last year. I'm not
expecting anything different tonight, and as you can tell, that's
already happening.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
So extremely happy.
Speaker 4 (08:00):
And I just want to give one quick shout out
to my boss, Mark Wallace, who's probably somewhere working is
behind off because and I know this is a high
school football show, but mister Wallace, hook them horn, sir,
That's all I have to say.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Well that tells me everything that.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
This weekend, gentlemen. So guys, I'm gonna get up and
help these girls out. It's great to see is always.
Thank you so much, you guys have a great show.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Thank you Mark, Mark, thanks for having us. Man.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
All right, let's move on to River Valley. They defeated
Buckeye Valley thirty seven to seven last week. River Valley
now sitting at two and one and Buckeye Valley. River
Valley old time rivals from the original MOAC and now
Buckeye Valley down in the Columbus one of the Columbus leagues,
I think it's the Buckeye Central League. And it was
(08:48):
one of those games that was another kind of bounce
back game. Even though River Valley did win last week
or the week previous to that for their first victory
of the season, I think they're still trying to build
away from that first loss and establish what they want
to do again. A good game by quarterback Chase Ebert.
He ran the ball well, he threw the ball well.
(09:09):
The thing that impresses me about River Valley is they
always seem to have these receivers that just come in
and step up every year, even after graduating, graduating some
really good players, and it looks like they just had
their way with Buckeye Valley last week.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Yeah, I'll tell you you know.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
River Valley lost their their opener correct mm and just
like elgend did lost their opener to Carrington and these teams,
if they have any aspirations at all, they're gonna get it.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
They're gonna get it. Done.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
They're gonna get those things fixed and they can kick
themselves all the way to the end of the season
because they had a hiccup in the first game.
Speaker 2 (09:41):
But you know, we talk about that.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
You know, hey, you lose your first game if you're
anything at all, if you have pride, and you're gonna
and the coaching staff is going to really work them,
they're gonna make those corrections and you can't worry about
that loss.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
You got to keep going.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
And I think you're right, Eric, River Valley is moving
up that track and they're going in a positive direction
right now, and they've got to play a very formidable opponent.
We'll talk about them in a little bit with Ontario
about Ontario, but they this is a good time to
play a good team. Yeah, you're on the upswing and
(10:13):
we'll be over there and we're really looking forward to
seeing how River Valley continues to improve. Elgin picked up
their second win on the season, beating North Baltimore thirty
four to nothing. Right now, Elgin two to zero in
the Northwest Central Conference. I know that there was some
motivations there that were outside of the school, you know,
social media wise for Elgin, but it really just is
(10:35):
Elgin being that physical team that they are and North
Baltimore really being an undersized team that's trying to build something,
and it's just a mismatch, and I think Elgin just
knew we got to go in there take care of business. Yeah,
you know Elgin, You know, like we said just a
minute ago that they lost their first game to Carrington
and they didn't like that very well.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
They got back to work.
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Coach going Winslow and they knocked off you know, North
We're Ridgedale, then North Baltimore and they've got some goals
set for this and they're going on a business trip
this week. And you know, even though Ridgemond's playing pretty well,
they're two and one. I think that Elgin is very
(11:19):
physical this year, physically strong, and they're really tackling well.
And their sophomore quarterback is gaining confidence each and every week.
And what can you say about Harrison, He touched the
rock for him. So the defense is swarming too the football.
So I'm looking forward to seeing how they do against Ridgemont.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
And Elgin got a really good game last week against
North Baltimore, but also just doing what they needed to
do in the conference and I think that's after that
first loss, coach Winslow knew, hey, we're right into conference play.
We've got to keep our goat goals ahead of us,
and that's what he was able to do with that victory.
So again Elgin two and one on the season. Ridgemont
(12:01):
went into Ridgdale, or excuse me, Ridge went to Ridgemont
and lost to Ridgemont fourteen to eight. Ridgdale, now one
and two, won their first game of the season. Now
too straight losses. You and I were kind of talking
off air, you know what is going on at Ridgdale
because they do have the athletes, but I know, even
as the numbers being up, it's still a struggle at
(12:24):
times for that team if there's an injury or anything
like that. And I know the coach Chapman working as
guys to get that turned around. But this was for
us a very unexpected loss.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
Well, you know, whenever you have you know that down
in the thirties and you have a key injury in
a position, the other team, if they're smart, are going
to exploit that and you have maybe an inexperienced kid
having to take their place, especially if it's in say
the secondary, you're going to exploit that with the passing game.
If it's on the defensive line, you're going to exploit
(12:56):
that maybe with the running game and right run at
a line back or so to speak. So you know,
whenever you have numbers that are you know, in the
thirties or less, it's very crucial that all of the
kids stay healthy and they've got to continue to work
out and do a maintenance program as far as weight
training to try to continue to stay healthy. You know,
(13:20):
hopefully the hot weather is over with and the smaller
the teams that have the smaller numbers can continue to
get healthier and healthier.
Speaker 2 (13:29):
And we're wishing him the best of luck.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
We don't we're going to review the game, but traveling
to Michigan, that's going to be a trip form good
experience for him and we're wishing them the best of
luck up there.
Speaker 1 (13:41):

Back here at Ralviie Sports Eatery for the McDaniel Automotive
Football Frenzy. Coach John Kuzio and Eric Mosley joining you
right now, and let's go quickly into the county games
coming up this week. Obviously we'll talk about our Matthews
Honda Akra Game of the Week later on. First off,
Harding is traveling to Shelby to take on the Whippet
(17:52):
Shelby three and Ozero Harding one and two. This is
a really tough game to open league play for Harding,
especially having troubles with defending the pass. We know Braden
de Vito, a quarterback for Shelby, a three year starter.
He's a junior and he can do it with his feed,
he can do it with his arm. Last year Harding
(18:12):
really stopped the passing game, which they had a great
passing game. De Vito hurt him with his legs. This
year could be a different story.
Speaker 3 (18:20):
Yeah, you're talking about Harding who's trying to find an
identity this year again. And you've got Shelby who has
a program, and they're coming down to Harding, or excuse me,
they're at Shelby. They're at a home game. So I
look for you know, Harding. I think they're gonna have
their hands full this week. They've got to play a
(18:41):
perfect football game. They've got to come out and like
you say, they've got if they stop the pass, they've
got to be ready to stop the run. They better
be having somebody spy in the quarterback, and they've got
to go in there with a lot of emotion. They've
got to match the three to zero emotion that Shelby's
going to bring to the table playing at home, and
they better they're going on the road, and sometimes going
(19:01):
on the road, you bond together as a team and
sometimes you can really have big things happen.
Speaker 2 (19:07):
And we saw even this week.
Speaker 3 (19:09):
With college football, each and every week, there's always some
team you never expected. You know, Bowling Green given Penn
State all they can handle, you know. So there's teams
that you know, you just have to bond together. And
some of the younger players that are really trying to
work hard for to earn a position. Sophomores are no
(19:30):
longer sophomores anymore.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
We talk about that all the time.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
They've had some scrimmages, they've had three games under their belt.
It's time to strap them on and go up there
to Shelby and give it the.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
Best they have.
Speaker 1 (19:41):
Elgin travels to Ridgemont. Ridgemont two and one, Elgin two
and one, both in the Northwest Central Conference. This game
could be very competitive. Ridgemont has won some games early
here in the season. This is an early Northwest Central
Conference meaningful contest, especially for Ridgemont, Elgin and Ridgemont if
you don't no very close in proximity. Ridgemont just across
(20:03):
the border into Hardin County from Elgin school districts, so
it's kind of a natural rivalry. But this game hasn't
always been very close the past few years. Could be
a little different this year.
Speaker 3 (20:14):
Well, based on you know, excuse me, based on Ridgemont
and Ridgedale scores and sometimes you know, A beats B
B doesn't necessarily beat C.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
I'm gonna I'm.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
Thinking that Elgin is going to be stronger going over there.
They're going to be going on a business trip coach
Winslow and the thing that they've got going for him
is they've got that first game loss, and they can
coaches can always revert back to that about their mindset,
that how they were when they went over to Cardington,
(20:47):
and they don't want to have a repeat of that
and ruin a really good possible season for them, and
they don't want to take any more losses. So I
look for Elgin to really go over and put on
a pretty good show against Ridgemont.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
In Ridgdale, they will go on Saturday and play in
Michigan against Riverview Richard High School. Ridgdale is one and two.
Richard is two and o now in Michigan, they do
a nine game regular season, so they actually start a
week later. That's why they're two and oh. I tried
to look up as much as I could about this team.
It does play in the the Catholic League, the Interschool
(21:25):
Catholic League league in Michigan, which is set up in
different divisions based on size. They look like they play
a pretty tough schedule, but not much I could find
out so really for Ridgdale, which I believe they had
to add this game because I think I can't remember
if it was Cressline, but one of the schools on
their schedule just they couldn't have enough for a team
this season. So it's a fun chance to go out
(21:48):
of state. But they've got to take this, like you
always says, a business trip.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
Yeah, And coach Chapman's you know, I know they're in
his staff are really working their tails off. They try
to keep their troops in a positive manner, you know,
being one and two, this is also a crucial time,
you know, you know, if you go up there and
give it the best you have it it's an away game,
sometimes teams can bond together. Hopefully the weather and the
(22:14):
temperature isn't gonna be a factor and they can go
up there and really work and play well. And all
those younger players can really improve this week and show
some improvement. And I know all the older players are
gonna have to be carrying the load and they're just
gonna have to give it all for the school and
the team and the coaches. So really wishing them the
(22:35):
best of luck this week.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
And that's the Marion County games for this week. Obviously,
we'll talk more about the Ontario River Valley game later
on in this broadcast, but we're going to take a
break here in a little bit and when we come back,
we will have River Valley head coach Matt Waddle and
players Chase Ebert and Tyson Wattle to talk about how
the season's gone so far and to give us some
(22:57):
thoughts on what to expect this Ontario Warriors team. But
we're here at Ralphie Sports Eatery for the McDaniel Automotive
Football Frenzy Show. Again, if you're out and about and
you're listening to a stop in here, it's a great
atmosphere right now, Get some wings. I'm still trying to
figure out what I'm going to order. It's always a
struggle each week because it's such good food.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
And you can't go wrong.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
I feel like I might order wings, but I seem
to always do that, so don't I think I should
probably order something different.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
That's one of my sides. Yeah, yeah, you.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Do a salad with a side of wings, so you
gotta love that. But again, we're here at Ralphie Sports Eatery.
Come out if you can, But we're going to continue
here after this break for the McDaniel Automotive Football frenzy.
On fourteen to ninety WMRN.
Speaker 12 (23:47):
Trump repeated a conspiracy theory about Haitian immigrants eating people's
pets in Springfield, Ohio. Springfield City Manager Brian Heck, in
a video posted on the town's Facebook page, says that
the rumors are false and that his community is working
to welcome new residents, including immigrants. Ballots need to be
mailed to military members overseas by September twentieth, but they
(24:09):
are waiting on an Ohio Supreme Court decision concerning the
language of Issue one, which would change the way Ohio's
voting district lines are drawn, creating a citizen panel instead
of elected politicians. The group's Citizens Not Politicians has filed
suit over the ballot wording, saying it's factually incorrect. It
is not clear yet whether the state justices will be

able to make their decision before the gold date of Friday.

Welcome back to the mccaniel Automotive Football Frenzy live from Ralphie.
Sporty Sports Eatery and Mary and Eric Mosley alongside coach
John Couzio. And joining us right now is River Valley
head coach Matt Wattle and players Chase Ebert and Tyson Wattle. Guys,
thanks for coming in.
Speaker 20 (29:15):
Thanks for having us.
Speaker 1 (29:16):
All right, coach, let's start with you. You know, the
Vikes dropped their week one game against Ashland, but you've
rolled to two consecutive convincing victories. What do you what
have you would you say has changed in your team
since that first week?
Speaker 20 (29:30):
Oh, I mean we've been a little bit more aggressive
on defense. We've been opportunistic and causing turnovers, and we've
you know, created some points off the defense. So you know,
obviously the defense has played much better, our offense has
gotten better. So I think we've played better in the
special teams game two, so we've we've started to play
better as a whole. Well, we still have work to
(29:52):
do and we still feel like we haven't played four
quarters of football yet.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
So yeah, coach, when you everybody talks about Rue Valley
talk about the passing game, and you lost a few
playmakers to graduation. Uh, but you have other guys, Eli
Snyder and Carter Park have really stepped up this year
for you. Tell us about what it may what it
makes that your wide receiver room to be able to
(30:17):
handle all the departing receivers that you've.
Speaker 20 (30:20):
Had in the past, kind of like somebody and the
next guy is ready to step in. There's a lot
of young guys right now that are playing for us
that maybe you know, don't get a lot of catches,
but they make big catches in crucial situations. We got
sophomore time on Nett that's playing for us, made a
big catch last week. Ellis McFarland's in that rotation. He's
(30:41):
a sophomore.
Speaker 2 (30:42):
Uh.
Speaker 20 (30:43):
And then we got guys that have on the outside
that are big and long and lanky and can run
like Logan Kreps. He's he's come on this year. Luke
Axeline is senior, plays both ways for us. He's he's
contributed quite a bit. It's got two touchdowns on the season.
And then you mentioned last nighter Carter Park. Those are
our main weapons right now as far as the most catches.
(31:06):
Then you throw in Jackson Caudill, who also is a
guy that can take the top off from the from
the slot position for us, but a lot of those
guys play both ways, so uh, you know, we we
pride ourselves in having a lot of depth at receiver
and guys that can just come in when needed and
give guys a break. Another guy I want to mention
is Jaden mccaulluch who's a senior. He got two catches
(31:28):
last week for us. So you know, we're we're maybe
don't have that big time wide receiver that we've had
in the past, but we got ten guys that we
trust that we can put out there and make plays
for us.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
It sounds great, you got it. Sounds like you had
a stable.
Speaker 1 (31:43):
I'm over there, well, and it seems like in the
past you had a lot of possession receivers in that
one guy that you could go over the top and
tell me if I'm wrong. It sounds like this year,
if you needed to do that, you could. But it's
really these guys that short passing game, run after the
catch that seems.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
To be working.
Speaker 21 (32:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 20 (32:01):
I mean, our our philosophy is get the ball to
the guys out in space as quick as possible and
and and get it to them quickly so that they
have room to make make plays and and can do
something with the football. But at the same time, you know,
I think Logan Krebs is the track guy. He's he's
gotten some deep balls for US. Luke Axlan's gotten some
deep balls for US time O Neett and Jackson Coddill
(32:22):
who's playing in our our three slot. Those are guys
that can stretch the middle of the field. So we
do have a lot of guys that just catch a
lot of short balls. But we feel like, uh, those
guys at any any moment, uh, when they catch a
short ball, they can take it to the house.
Speaker 2 (32:39):
Nice.
Speaker 1 (32:39):
Well, Chase, you're the one that's distributing everything to these guys,
and you've had one full season at starting QB. Your
freshman year you were wide receiver. Sophomore year you had
an injury couldn't play. So what has been your focus
going into this season after evaluating your first year as
a quarterback last.
Speaker 22 (32:56):
Year, So after watching film last year and under standing
more with coach Wattle, learn how to get the ball out,
identifying where our matchups are and pre snap and post
snap reeds to get the ball out to your.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
Open receivers, and you've really turned into one of the
top rushers in the league. This year too, and last
season you did run the ball well, but you also
had a couple running backs that you could hand off to.
Has it been that progression to where you recognize right away, okay,
it's time to take off. I know you have some
design runs, but you know, time to take off. Or
(33:31):
I can stay in the pocket and pass.
Speaker 22 (33:33):
Yeah, if I see an open gap and third and two,
fourth and one, I can pick it up, keep the
chains moving, keep it rolling. But no matter what, I
want to trust the guys outside and get them the ball.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
So, Coach, have you ever been like when he takes
off running?
Speaker 19 (33:46):
No?
Speaker 2 (33:46):
No, no? Yeah, okay, good.
Speaker 20 (33:48):
I mean there's definitely times I've been like that. What
I tell Chase a lot of times is if he's
scrambling and rolling out or whatever the case may be,
always keep his eyes down field to look for receivers.
But if he's got great take it and tuck the
ball and run with it.
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Nice.
Speaker 3 (34:03):
Sounds good talking to Tyson Waddle and he knows the
guy that's sitting beside him, the coach. They eat dinner together,
probably every night, don't you, Tyson, Yeah, coach's son.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
We've talked about it, you know when we were off.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
The air, and you know you currently lead the MOAC
and Tackles with forty five and River Valley has had
a ton of good linebackers the past few seasons. Is
there any standard set to play linebacker for River Valley?
Speaker 21 (34:30):
I mean, just Coach black Ledge comes into practice every
day and he's really sets a tone for us and
just tells us what it truly means to be a
linebacker and just really gets us aggressive and wanting to
hit somebody.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Yeah, you know, we talked about it.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
Sometimes it's tough to be a coach's son, but also
it's an advantage because you've been around it, probably in
the locker room when you were a little kid, when
your dad was coaching the younger and when he was
younger in the earlier days, and you just hear it
every day. You hear the terminology and you hear and
maybe coach probably didn't really think he was paying attention,
but they really do, and it's rubbed off and it
(35:06):
looks to me like, you know, leading the MOAC and
Tackles has really been a factor because of fact.
Speaker 2 (35:12):
That fact. So wishing you the best of luck, stay healthy.
Thank you so Tyson.
Speaker 1 (35:16):
When again There's there's been a lot of good linebackers
that you've watched. You some of them you probably were
in middle school or even youth football that you watched,
so you probably know a lot of their stats. Do
you use that as a goal for you, like, Okay,
this is where it's set and this is where I
want to be.
Speaker 21 (35:35):
I mean, obviously I pay attention to all the personal stats,
but I just want to do what I can do
to do my one to eleven to help the team win.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
Nice well, coach, you open up league play this week
when you host Ontario, and we know where Ontario is
at in the league right now, coming in as an
undefeated team. What are your thoughts on the three and
oh Warriors and what they they bring to the game.
Speaker 20 (35:58):
Yeah, I think there are a well bound this offensive
football team. Obviously everybody knows, you know, about the quarterback
and being a highest state recruit and all that good stuff.
But you know, they got a pretty good running back too,
So you know, we can't just key on the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
We got to be able to, you know.
Speaker 20 (36:17):
Make sure we're lined up correctly play our responsibilities.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
We got to stop the run.
Speaker 20 (36:22):
But also I think that we got to make Miller
more of a thrower than a runner. I feel like
if he gets out in space, we're going to be
in trouble. But if we can keep him in the
pocket and make him be more of a thrower than
a runner, I think we'll be all right. But first
things first, we got to stop the run. Defensively, They're
front seven is pretty aggressive. Miller's playing defense this year,
(36:46):
he's playing a corner, so you know, one of the
things that we want to try to do is not
be afraid of him and make him have to play defense,
make him have to play both sides the ball, try
to wear him out, try to put them in situations
maybe that not comfortable of being in. Defensively, last year
they blissed us a lot. So we're prepared for that.
(37:06):
And we just gotta be able to beat the blitz
and we got to make plays on offense, and we
got to.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Protect coach I was just gonna add to, you know,
against their offense, Van der Berg, I believes that the
young man's name, he's got eight touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Is he more of an inside or outside run or
what type of runs?
Speaker 20 (37:23):
What I see from him is, you know, he's he's
decently quick. He's a hard runner, so he will pound
it up inside. But at the same time he'll he
can get out on the edge. So we got to
be able to, like I said, stop the run and
make make them more of a one dimensional team. Put
them in you know, seconds and thirds and longs, and
make them try to throw the ball instead of you know,
(37:44):
trying to run it down our throats.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
So Miller being a dual threat quarterback and them having
a running backs that is as good as what they have.
Do they run any option? Do they try to use
both of them at the same time.
Speaker 20 (37:58):
We see them run one option play. They do a
lot of RPO stuff, so they'll do some run pass
option stuff. So you know, Miller can hand it off,
he can pull it, throw it, pull it, run it.
So that's why we got to be sound defensively and
be able to you know, control our gaps, control the
line of scrimmage, and also not get too nosey in
(38:19):
the back end because you know, Miller can throw it.
I mean, he has a pretty good deep ball, but
I don't think he's that accurate when he has pressure.
So that's why we want to try to keep him
in the pocket. And make him have to throw from
the pocket.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
And do you feel like this game could come down
to the special teams game, because obviously the Vikings can
can put points up and they can really run the field.
Looks like Ontario kin as well. Could it come down
to that that big play on special teams, maybe a
big field goal something like that.
Speaker 20 (38:50):
Really, I mean, anytime you talk about close games, you
usually talk about special teams, whether it's in the kickoff
return game or the kicking game.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
They have a pretty good kicker.
Speaker 20 (39:01):
We got a pretty good kicker, so you know, I
could see it coming down to, you know, an extra point,
a field goal, and and those players are obviously in
tight games, very crucial. You can't take a pat off
and have one blocked or you know, so every every
possession is going to be important.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
Well, guys, it's great having you here. We're looking forward
to being able to see River Valley for the first

and doing a game. We always say we have the

Speaker 1 (43:34):
All right, we're in the home stretch here the McDaniel
Automotive Football Frenzy Show live from Ralbie Sports Eater here
and Marion, and we're at the point where we are
previewing our Matthews Hontakra Game of the Week, which will
be Ontario visiting River Valley. Ontario comes into this game undefeated,
three and zero. River Valley is two and one. You
(43:57):
look at the stats for both of these teams, they're
not too dissimilar. Offensively, River Valley is averaging about six
yards per carry, Ontario six point six yards per carry.
Then passing, Ontario is averaging about fifteen and a half
yards per completion, River Valley ten point seven yards per completion.
(44:19):
And total offense, Ontario leads the conference, actually second in
the conference, averaging four hundred and sixteen yards per game.
River Valley not too far behind at three point eighty six.
Shelby is averaging four hundred and fifty four yards per game.
I think coach this team or This game really is
(44:40):
going to come down to which team can make a
difference on defense, because both of these offenses can perform
very well. We know that the quarterback for Ontario, body
Penn Miller, is a dual threat quarterback.
Speaker 2 (44:52):
He can run, he can pass.
Speaker 1 (44:54):
But River Valley's quarterback Chase Ebert, is a dual threat
quarterback as well. Now the differ fernts on offense, I
think really is that Ebert is the run game for
River Valley, whereas Ontario has a couple options.
Speaker 3 (45:09):
Well, I'll tell you what Coach Wattell talked about the
receiving corps, and I think he mentioned about ten kids,
and that's really great to have if you can spread
the ball out and you just plug somebody in. He
said he doesn't have the real dominant, big play receiver
that's going to make all the catches, but looks like
Snyder and Park are.
Speaker 2 (45:29):
The guys with the most catches.
Speaker 3 (45:30):
But he said he talked about some other guys that
stepped up and made some big catches. You know, a
couple of catches in the game last week, a couple
of catches in the game the week before, and he
spreads it out and I really think that's an advantage too.
If you have more better receivers then they have defensive backs.
You find out you know where to go where the
(45:51):
weakest one is, and you go after him, and that's
pretty much. You know, it's a simple, simple outline there.
So I think Valley's coaching staff they've been throwing the
passing game at people for a few years now, and
they've got to go and they understand it.
Speaker 2 (46:08):
I believe. Also, this is kind of game that we like.
Speaker 3 (46:11):
To do where you have kind of two teams. They're
definitely Ontario, we know what they're about. River Valley is
on an upswing and they won a couple of games
and they're playing a good team in a positive manner
at home and what better way and good weather. Those kids,
If they're not up for this game at River Valley,
(46:31):
I don't know when they will be. So I'm looking
forward for River Valley to really be sky high to
try to knock off Ontario and Ontario better bring their
a game.
Speaker 1 (46:40):
And Ontario on defense really looks like a pretty good
team when you look at how many total yards per
game that they're giving up on average, only one hundred
and ninety two yards per game. River Valley, on the
other hand, have given up two hundred and ninety three
yards average per game, and really a lot of that
has been in the in the passing game. They've just
(47:05):
had a lot of teams that have been able to pass,
but they've also faced teams early in the season that
that is pretty much all they do. Ashland Madison passes
the ball a lot. So that's a deceptive stat right there,
because they just played some teams that could pass the
ball a lot. They're going into this game with a
team that really relies on the run. They can pass,
(47:26):
but they feel like Miller, if they can put some
pressure on him and shut down that run game especially,
he could make some mistakes.
Speaker 3 (47:33):
Well, you know, basically, this is the first league game, correct, yep,
So you can pretty much throw all.
Speaker 2 (47:38):
These stats out the window. They're playing you don't really know.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
I guess if you wanted to sit down and compare
the teams that they played and if there are any
common opponents and how they played, you know, against each
one of those teams and the scores.
Speaker 2 (47:51):
And so on and so forth.
Speaker 3 (47:53):
But you're pretty much you know that both of these
teams are going to be good. Both of these teams
are going to come to play. I think River be
playing at home. I would imagine tomorrow night, or excuse
me's Friday night.
Speaker 2 (48:05):
It'll be a packed house.
Speaker 3 (48:06):
I know, Ontario being three and oh just down the road,
not very far, less than an hour, they're gonna be
bringing some people. I look for a really fun, cool
atmosphere to do the game, and I look for River
Valley to show up and really play hard, play well
for their home home fans.
Speaker 2 (48:25):
Again.

because like we should both be Ralfie's employees because we're
bringing crowds in it.
Speaker 4 (49:05):
You know what, Eric, I know a guy that could
probably do that for you. We can make that happen.
I think I got a little stroke around here.
Speaker 9 (49:11):
You know.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
Yeah, I really like your Ralfie's shirt. I'll take a
double X.
Speaker 4 (49:15):
You got absolutely I'll give you guys one tonight. That's
no problem at all, Coach. You're going with the Captain
So's tonight instead of the uh.
Speaker 2 (49:23):
Yeah, I uh the opener. I went with Captain So's
and then.
Speaker 3 (49:26):
I went with the jerk last two weeks, and uh,
that's no way to talk about me, coach.
Speaker 2 (49:32):
Well, I've been with a jerk every week. Well you know,
I forgot your your words, not mine, sir.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
Yeah, but no, I just wanted to I wanted to
go back to the good old standby that it went with.
Speaker 4 (49:44):
Well, I mean, hey, there's no wrong choice with those two.
Speaker 16 (49:47):
You know.
Speaker 4 (49:47):
It's six and one hand, half a dozen in the other,
you know. So we're not talking, guys. We had an
amazing night. Yeah, River Valley representing once again. House filled up.
I am extremely happy because a year ago I had
staff on and we weren't doing this well. Now this year,
a year later, I've got less staff on and my
girls are handling it. So I'm extremely happy. I'm gonna
(50:09):
get back up and help them. Got McDaniel motors. Thank
you so much, wmrin It, thank you so much. Coach Eric,
thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (50:16):
Well, real quick, real quick, Yes, sir, I want you
to talk about your specials because we always like to
feature those.
Speaker 4 (50:23):
Yeah, I forgot about that. Well, our specials. I like
to repeat them every week. And I also like to
remind people that we are one of I think two
places in town that actually carries the NFL Sunday ticket
every game, every Sunday, no matter what, no matter who
your team is. So come on down and do that.
We've got our Wings special every day from two to five.
We got ten for twelve bucks. But on Monday that's
open to close, ten for twelve bucks on the Wings.
(50:45):
And Sunday, if you come in for the Sunday ticket,
we have what is personally my favorite special, which is
the double cheeseburger and fries ten dollars special. And it's
not a McDonald's cheeseburger and fries. This is a legit
cheese double cheeseburger and fries. You know, nothing derogatory about McDonald's.
You know, great milkshakes, that's a that's a hell of it.
Speaker 2 (51:05):
No, you're just you're throwing it down. It's okay, it's okay.
Speaker 4 (51:09):
We're We're not after the same demographic.
Speaker 2 (51:11):
I don't think, probably not.
Speaker 4 (51:13):
But again, guys, thank you so much. Tonight has gone great.
I have had a hectic week and I'm in a
great mood right now.
Speaker 2 (51:20):
Awesome, gentlemen.
Speaker 4 (51:22):
Good luck with the show this Friday or with the
game this Friday. And I'll see you gentlemen next week.
Speaker 2 (51:26):

Speaker 1 (51:28):
Mar guys, thank you, Mark full manager of Ralphie Sports
Eatery here and Marion. We're wrapping things up here. I
want to remind everyone that that does pay attention. We
would normally on a Thursday have the McDaniel Automotive Buckeye
ticket giveaway. Buckeyes are off this week, so there is
no ticket giveaway tomorrow. We will return in a week
(51:50):
and do a ticket giveaway for the Marshall game.
Speaker 2 (51:53):
That will be that following Saturday.
Speaker 1 (51:54):
But coach, we made it halfway to week four and
I'm excited about what's coming up.
Speaker 3 (52:00):
Yeah, this is unbelievable how fast it's going. And I hope,
you know, we wish that the kids all stay healthy.
Coaches keep them healthy and they play hard on Friday night.
If you're out, we always talk about it. You see
lights on in your local neighborhood, go out and see
a game. These kids are really working hard.
Speaker 2 (52:16):
