Speaker 1 (00:03):
Happy Wednesday everyone, And it's Wednesday, so you.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
Know where we're at.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
We are at Ralfie Sports Dari for the McDaniel Automotive
Football Frenzy alongside coach John Couzio. I'm Eric Moseley and
it's a dreary day out. You can just feel it's
just dreary. But I tell you it's starting to feel
like football weather right now, don't you think, Coach.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Yeah, we need we need to get a little chill
in the air. And I can't believe this is already
a sixth week. Yeah, and it's really flying by. We've
seen some really good football, a lot of great efforts
by some teams, and we're really happy that coach Williamson
has coming today. We're gonna get a chance to talk
with him in a little bit from Harding and tune
in and listen, we're gonna talk football here for about
(00:47):
an hour.
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
It's the time of year that we absolutely love. And
there's been so much football to talk about this season.
It's been and we talked about in the post GameLine
last week, the the MOAC especially, but I think for
all the Marion County teams it's competitive every week, right
now and everybody is stacked up really well and anybody
(01:11):
can be anyone, And we saw that last week with
Pleasant River Valley. But we've seen some or some games
that were decided in the last moments, but also games
this season where one team just kind of ran away
with it and it's not always the team that you
expect it to be by the end of the game.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
Well, especially if it's a rivalry game, we kind of
watched to see what team is going to really get
maybe too psyched up for it and maybe make some mistakes.
Early last week we had that situation with Pleasant and
River Valley, where Pleasant, we thought, really got really psyched
up for it and they were playing at home and man,
(01:50):
they had a great crowd and the whole they had
the stage set. But River Valley came in. They when
they got the time, they stepped off the bus. They
were all business like and they were locked in and
they just controlled the game from the very beginning absolutely well.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Tonight, like coach said, we will have a harding head
coach Chuck Williamson and players JJ Starks and Landon Adams
later on in the show, But first we want to
talk about all the games. Mary kind of games that
were happening in week five. We'll start with that River
Valley Pleasant game. River Valley wins thirty five to nothing.
That moved River Valley to three and two and drop
(02:29):
Pleasant to three and two.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
And that game was really.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Decided early with just the River Valley offense going in
high gear. I don't think that Pleasant didn't put forth
a good effort. It was just River Valley had a
game plan in place, they stuck to it, and they
executed it almost perfectly.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah, Pleasant's the type of team that wants to run
first and then pass and mix it up. They want
to be balanced, you know, obviously, you know that didn't
happen for him. Once they got one score down, they
had some penalties defensively which helped River Valley, and then
they offensively kind of shot themselves in the foot a
little bit. They got down and had a chance to
(03:10):
tie it up in the first quarter and through an
interception and River Valley took it over and went marched
on down and got another score, went up fourteen to nothing.
Now the team that's running the football, or likes to
run the football, now they kind of they panic a
little bit, and and I don't think Pleasant really ever panics,
But it just was like River Valley couldn't wait to
(03:32):
get the ball back so they could go. And they
weren't just settling for short passes. They were launching it
down and keeping the defense spread out. And Ebert had
a really fine night, five touchdown passes and really exploited
pleasants defensive secondary. So River Valley, like you say, they
were locked in when they got off the bus. It
(03:53):
was a business strip for him. And you know, I'm
sure that you know that's that game they were. They're
going to use it the rest of the season to
continue on. Coach talked about, you know, that's what their
identity is and that's what they're going to continue to do. Yeah,
Ebert was eighteen of thirty nine over three hundred yards passing.
(04:16):
And the thing that I thought was really interesting. We
knew that the Spartans have a very aggressive defense. One
of their best defensive players who leads the league in sacks,
Sam Menzer, didn't have any. And what was happening was
those short passes were kind of softening up that pleasant
(04:36):
defense and then they were able to kind of open
it up downfield. The other thing that I thought was
interesting in that game, Coach was that Ebert really didn't
have to use his legs at all, and that's something
two games in a row that they haven't really had
to worry about him running the ball much, and I
think that with their offense that is key for their success.
Well against Ontario, he couldn't run the ball because they
(04:58):
had somebody spying on and the defensive line for Ontario
going back to games, pretty much like you say, kept
him crowd and I'm sure that if you know, Pleasant
would have been able to get some pressure on him,
he might have been able to get away and pick
up yardies like he did last year in a lot
of games. But he just cut the ball off quick.
(05:23):
Pleasant didn't have an answer really as far as pass
rush was concerned.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
So that game a very big rivalry game. You love
seeing the fans that were there. It was a lot
of fun and Pleasant. We know Pleasant's going to try
to bounce back. We'll talk about their game coming up,
but I you know, coach afterwards just said, we're not
even gonna watch this tape where this happened. We're just
moving on from it and it'll be interesting to see
(05:50):
how the Spartans bounced back, Highland was able to defeat
Harding twenty eight to nothing. Harding now at one and four,
and you know, one of the things we we don't
know much about Hyland. We know that they've struggled having
to have an identity after losing maybe the best running
back we've seen in the area in Dan Nauman to graduation.
(06:12):
But it looks like to me and everything I saw,
Island just came out there, attacked as much as they
could with the stover quarterback, and again Harding facing a
team that they felt like they could match up with
and it just didn't happen for him.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
Yeah, you know, it's all about consistency. I know coach
Williamson would agree. One and four record really isn't any
indication of the quality of the team Harding really is.
I think you and I talked about the record of
the teams that ye that Harding was got be by in.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
It's the big Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
I can't remember exactly what it is, but they have
five or three undefeated teams that they faced, yea that
they're still undefeated, and then the other two teams only
added up to like seven losses, So that's a there's
a no team that I've seen in this area in
a few years that has had to face that the
first five weeks.
Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yeah, and sometimes when you have a younger team and
I know they have first year quarterback as a senior,
maybe you'd like to play some teams that not as
of that quality and maybe get a couple of wins,
a couple more wins. But you know, they have to
play the schedule, and that's what they did. And I'm
sure that as they progress through the season and they
get into these other teams and there's gonna be a
(07:30):
lot of rivalry games here coming up. I know they
have River Valley this week. I think they have Pleasant
next week. I mean, it doesn't get any easier. When
you have a rivalry game. You throw the records out
the door. These kids have played ball, flag football against
each other since they were four or five years old,
played maybe on the same team if they play, you know,
locally at the wire or whatever, so they know everybody,
(07:51):
and it's it's very emotional for them to play against
another kid from the county. But you know, I'm sure
that they're gonna coach them up. I know all the
coaches over there very well, and I'm sure, they're coaching
the kids up and we're gonna really be rooting for him.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Elgin bounced back from a tough loss the week before
and beat Corey ross In twenty nine to three. Elgin
is now three and two. I know it's not exactly
where Elgin had wanted to be at this point in
the season, but anytime you have to come off a loss,
you want to have a convincing win. We knew Corey
Rosson wasn't a strong team, but it looks like Elgin
was able to go out there, establish the run game
(08:26):
like they wanted to and get the victory.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
Yeah, the games that seemed like the weeks after a
loss are not easy to coach, but they're a lot
easier to keep get the kids attention, and coach Williamson
would probably agree to this that the kids, you know,
I know the kids at Elgin very well. I know
coach Winslow and hit their staff and once you once
(08:51):
you get beat, then the kids will respond to your coaching.
You coach them up, and they did respond last week
against Corey Rosson beat him twenty nine to three. Pretty
good victory for him. And they've got to march on
and if they have any character at all, They're gonna
take a loss and they're gonna build from it, and
(09:12):
I know their staff will coach them up and I
think they'll progress through the season and get better. Maybe
it was a wake up call for him that they're
not really at the top yet.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
And Ridgdale had another tough defeat this past week against
Upper Side of Valley, one of the best teams in
the Northwest Central Conference thirty eight to eight. Ridgdale is
now one to four. It's been a very opposite season
than what Ridgdale had last season, and they did lose
a few guys to graduation, but most everybody returned. But
the guys they lost were pretty big keys on that team.
(09:46):
And we haven't talked to the coaches and everyone out
there recently, but you got to imagine there's probably some
injury issues some things like that that have just been
difficult for Ridgdale, but they keep coming back, they keep fight.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Yeah, I think the smaller the school, injuries are even
more important to not have, and especially if you, you know,
lose a guy like Field.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Last year, he was a punter.
Speaker 3 (10:12):
And linebacker and and everything else running the football. He
was a very big and they had some other guys
that were really, like you say, mainstays of the team
and showed a lot of leadership through some tough times.
But they had a great season obviously last year. This
year they're struggling a little bit, but I know coach
Chapman will in his staff will keep the kids rolling
(10:35):
and coach them up and be positive the rest of
the way.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
All right, So that's a rundown of all the games
from last week. Want to have Mark foll on real quick.
Mark the manager here at Ralfie's, and Mark were always
happy to have.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
You join us.
Speaker 5 (10:49):
Always happy to see you guys.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Yeah, and I'm always happy when anybody gets to.
Speaker 5 (10:53):
Same Wednesdays my new Fridays.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
So that makes Thursday or New Saturday and something like Yeah,
that's We do.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
Get Thursdays off from time to time, as long as
we're not doing the ticket giveaway, which unfortunately we are
not doing this week.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
So you actually have a day off tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
So I actually do get a day off tomorrow. But
you know, I never doubt my staff's ability to create
a situation where I will probably have to come in
at some point tomorrow. No, I'm kidding, I'm kidding. No,
So guys, big another big rivalry in conference this week,
got Harding, got the President's, got the Vikings. Coming off
of a big win at Pleasant last week.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
Yeah, it's going to be a lot of fun. Anytime
you get the cross county games. We always enjoy that
and you know generally that might lead to some people
coming here after the game, right.
Speaker 5 (11:40):
It absolutely did this last Friday. I know, we we
got hit pretty hard by some of the River Valley
faithful and I'll tell you what they were a lot
of smiles on a lot of faces walking through the door.
So so yeah, so that was great. We had a
great Friday because of that. Unfortunately, no ticket giveaway this week,
but like I said, I always like to remind people
that we are one of two establishments in the County
(12:02):
of Marion that actually has the NFL Sunday ticket that's
every game every Sunday with the double Cheezburger special. So
we still got that going on this week. Unfortunately, the
buck Eyes are been scheduled exactly the same time as
Alabama and Georgia. So I'd like to thank the powers
would be for not being able to accurately schedule football
games and in a manner that that helps me watch.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
Or put it in someplace that you can actually have
it all.
Speaker 5 (12:29):
Yeah, and then they put that yeah, unbelievable. They're putting
the buck eyes in Sparti on a on a darn app.
That just drives me crazy. So but what are you
gonna do? But hey, I'm gonna let you guys get
back to your show. Coach, good to see you as always.
Thank you so much sir for coming in. Guys, you
have a great show.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Absolutely, Thanks mar Thank you fellas. Mark. Well, we'll go
ahead and take a break.
Speaker 1 (12:50):

Back here at the McDaniel Automotive Football Frenzy live from
Ralphie Sports Eatery and Marion, Eric Mosley coach John Cuzio,
and let's look towards this week now a lot of
really good games again involving area teams. Will start with Pleasant,
they travel to clear Fork, Pleasant at three and two,
clear Fork one and four, and clear Fork has been
(16:42):
a team that's been in a transition the past couple
of years. But I've talked to a lot of different
coaches and they say this is not a one in
four team. It's not a team that if you look
at their record, it's just going to be an automatic win.
This is a team that plays physical, They hit hard,
and it's one of those things that coach Westler talked
about when he talked with Robin Curty at the Marrying Star, like,
(17:05):
this is a team that we have to really get
up for because they're sneaky good and also pleasant coming
off the big loss. I think there's going to be
a lot of fight in that team. Yeah, this is
bounced back week for Pleasant all the way. I believe
it's going to be at clear Fork. I think, which
also could help Pleasant. It might calm him down a
little bit. They're going to be more business like going
(17:26):
over there. They've got a very good staff, very experienced
staff to know how to handle tough loss like that.
You've got to coach him up this week, and I
think Cjy and his group are going to bounce back
this week and come over and play very well at
clear for I look for Pleasant to put him on
I'm pretty good. Yeah, and clear Fork is never a
(17:48):
fun trip to go over there. It's one of the
further trips for the Marion County teams beautiful facility over there.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
It really is.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
But for a coach, I imagine it's like, man, I've
got to get these guys on the bus, I've got
to get them focused for about an hour on a
drive over there, and it's it's not a lot of
easy ways to get your team ready for a game.
And then you throw in the record. It's not making excuses,
but it's easy for a player to be like, well,
(18:17):
you know, it is what it is.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
So they got their work cut out for him this week.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
Yeah, no question about it. But I really think that
you know they're gonna they're gonna do it.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Oh yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
Elgin travels to Worthington Christian for a non league game
in the middle of the season. Worthington Christian is at
two and three, Elgin at three and two. We don't
know much about Worthington Christian. I told you before we
got on the air. It's traditionally a basketball school, really,
but they're they're playing probably a little bit tougher schedule
than what Elgin is playing right now. But I would
(18:50):
imagine Worthington Christian has not seen a wing tee offense
yet this season, and anytime you have to face a
wing tea like Elgin has, it can be difficul.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Yeah, it's not just because I, you know, have my
little bit of relationship with Elgin over the years. But
I really think that coach Winslow and his staff are
probably still a little bit out and by the shutout
that they had a couple of weeks ago versus Ridgemond,
and they've been working real hard to get some things corrected.
Evidently they did last week they bounced back. I think
(19:23):
they've got the kids focus. They're traveling to Worthington Christian.
Like I say, sometimes going away and and treating it
like a business trip.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
We talked about it over and over again.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Can bring a group of kids together and a team together,
and they could go down there to represent the Marion County.
And I think I look for it to be a
close game, and I think they've got still a lot
of fight in them, and I look for them to,
you know, win.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
A close one down at Worthington Christian.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
And really a game like this in the middle of
the season can sometimes be a turning point. You're seeing
a team that you don't normally see. Then you can
get right back into the league schedule and is going
to have a tough end of the season, having to
go against Waynesfield Goshen. They still have to play Hardened
Northern and I believe Upperside of Valley as well. So
(20:12):
those are three teams that are very difficult in that league.
So we'll see what Elgin does this week. Hardened Northern
speaking of them, the Polar Bears traveling to Ridgdale to
take on the Rockets. Ridgdale at one and four, Hardened
Northern at four and one. So again Ridgedale having to
face another one of the top teams in the conference,
but they're at home and hopefully it's one of those
(20:34):
games that again you never know what can happen, and
as a player and a coach, that's the way you
have to look at it every week. Hopefully the Rockets
can come out there and take care of business.
Speaker 3 (20:43):
Well, sixth game in the season. Ridgedale one and four,
hard Northern four and one. Ridgedale's got to find an identity, hopefully.
We haven't really talked to anybody about possibility of some
key injuries, but some of the young kids have got
to step up, and we talk about sophomores or no
longer sophomores after about the third game, and some of
(21:06):
those younger kids are going to I know they have
the one freshman Potcutter playing linebacker played in the game
against Elgin, what second game this season, So they've got
some young kids and coach Chapman, I know he and
his staff will keep the kids grouped and keep a
positive attitude and give it all they have on Friday
night against Arden Northern.
Speaker 1 (21:26):
So that's the games this week involving Marion County teams.
I want to go through some of the MOAC stats
and feature some of those players from Marion County. We
don't get stats for the Northwest Central Conference, so we
can't go through those, but right now leading the conference
and completions Chase Eber one hundred and twelve completions on
the season. Number two Connor Pennington with seventy seven. Connor
(21:50):
also has the second best completion percentage at sixty five percent.
Chase Eber most passing yards in the offerings one three
hundred and seventeen. Just looking good and we know with
that offense they're going to be right up there. With receptions,
Eli Snyder thirty six receptions on the senior the season,
(22:12):
Parker Davis from Harding thirty five, Carter park At twenty
three in Luke axe Line at twenty one, and Parker
Davis has the second most receiving yards in the conference
four hundred and twenty one, Eli Snyder with three point
fifty three and Luke ax Line at three forty two,
fourth and fifth reception, respectively.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Special teams.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
This is something that stood out to me in this
game Saturday, We're going to see two of the best
kickers in the conference right now. Punting average, Jackson Shipley
top in the conference. He's averaging forty three yards of punt.
Hudson Pollock from River Valley number two at forty yards
per punt, and then Hudson Pollock is the second best
kicker overall, but he's nineteen for nineteen on extra points made.
(23:00):
Jackson Shipley is twelve for twelve. They're the only two
kickers that are perfect on extra points this season. So
if anything, if this game comes down to special teams,
you really don't know which way it could go, because
that kicking game looks like it could be pretty good
for both teams.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Yeah, they're really awesome. We've got to see them both
and I'll tell you what. Both kids have great legs
and really we're looking forward to that and hopefully they'll
maybe kick the game winning field goal.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
Absolutely. Well, that's a recap of everything coming up this week.
We're going to take a break. When we come back,
we will have harding head coach Chuck Williamson and players
JJ Starks and Landon Adams here live. You're listening to
the football Frenzy. On fourteen ninety Wmril.

two hundred homes have been evacuated. Crews have since contained
the leak, but during a press conference today, officials said
that a half mile evacuation zone remains in place, along
with a shelter in place for surrounding areas. Air quality
(24:09):
is being monitored. Water quality in the area is also
being tested. The fraA and EPA are assisting the National
Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio, reporting that a weak tornado
touched down in Preble County Tuesday, the seventy first recorded
tornado in Ohio this year, adding to the record for
the most tornadoes in one year. The old record of

sixty two or nineteen ninety two was broken on June

Welcome back to the Football Frenzy, The McDaniel Automotive Football
Frenzy live from Ralphie's Sports Eatery. And joining us right
now is partying head coach Chuck Williamson and players JJ
Starks and Landon Adams. Thanks for joining us, guys, not
a problem, So coach, we'll go ahead and start with you,
and we kind of we talked about this in our preview,
(29:22):
but the first five games of the season have been
a gauntlet for the Prexies and your opponents. So far,
of a combined record of eighteen and seven, three teams
are still undefeated. So I guess the question I have
is when you look at how your team has performed
through those five games, how do you feel like they've
progressed against that that competition and just seemingly a really
(29:44):
good team each week?
Speaker 20 (29:46):
Yeah, I mean we've you know, it's a tough schedule
and we expect to accept the challenge. Our kids have,
you know, came out prepared every week. The difference between
this year and last year.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
Last year there were games we were just not in.
Speaker 20 (30:01):
And you know, three of the four teams that we've
lost to this year are still undefeated. We were in
all three of those bowl games. We had a chance
to win all three of those games. And that's just
something that our guys got to do. They're going to
learn how to finish and you know, we talk to
them all the time about it. But we have great leadership.
I couldn't. I mean, I'm proud of them. They're bounced back,
(30:22):
having a great week of practice this week and you know,
rivalry game, we're excited to play. So we're ready to go.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
Yeah, coach, that was kind of leading leading into my
question there. You know, in every game you've been in, uh,
you've been it's very close. What type of things do
you talk to your kids about about finishing the game
and stay you know, like, oh no, here, here we
go again.
Speaker 20 (30:42):
Yeah, it's the little things, penalties, turnovers. You know, it's
just a little play here and there. You know, the
line of senior game I never ever say it, but
officiating had a lot to do with it. I just
got to put that out there. But the other two games,
you know, we we we were right there and we
had opportunities. And when you get opportunities, coaches, you would
(31:05):
well know that you.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Got to finish.
Speaker 20 (31:07):
And that's something we're still learning.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
You know.
Speaker 20 (31:09):
We got to see young guys and we're still learning
how to finish. And I tell them what, when we
do put it all together, we're a dangerous football team.
I wouldn't want a play ass when we put it
all together.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Yeah, very good coach. So jj.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
I went through and looked at the stats today because
I wanted to know a little bit more about both
of you. And I mean, for d Lineman, you're you're
at twenty one tackles, six tackles for a loss, two sacks,
you had an interception and then you forced to fumble
and recovered it, right, So what has been the key
this season for you to be so successful? Because there
(31:45):
was I played defensive line and to be at this
point in the season to have stats like that, I mean,
that's that's pretty impressive.
Speaker 21 (31:54):
It's just really being to where I'm supposed to be.
At just knowing my assignment and everything. And to give
him credit on the interception, he he batted up the.
Speaker 17 (32:04):
Ball and I just caught it.
Speaker 21 (32:05):
I had to give him credit because.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
He was gonna keep it.
Speaker 1 (32:07):
So you're saying Landon got you the interception. He had
the toughest part, right, Okay.
Speaker 21 (32:13):
But I did run it for four or five yards.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
Yeah, that's being a really good teammate, I tell you.
And plus, uh, you've got to keep your motor running.
And we've seen you play and that we know that
you do that all the time as a defensive lineman.
Land And uh you know we uh did the uh
Mount Vernon game, yep. And that was your first game
back after a whole year, correct, Yes, and uh I
(32:37):
I mentioned on the radio several times that looked like
your first game back after a whole year because you
were it was like your super Bowl. You were back
and you were really active, and uh, you know, what
do you what do you think? Uh makes makes your
defense so tough to run on?
Speaker 22 (32:54):
Honestly, all the guys up front, I mean they're all
guys that are that were with us all off season.
They're all locked in is what we like to say
is locked in, but they all know their jobs. We
all are very close and you see those guys in
the weight room all the time, familiar faces around. You know,
they're always there, they're always learning, and they're always like
willing to do what needs to be done. So that
(33:15):
whole fro Hevin, we all are close and do what
needs to be done. And that's why I think we're
so good when it comes to the running.
Speaker 3 (33:21):
Yeah, we always talk about with a defense, especially with offense.
I was more of an offensive minded coach, but I
also know I've listened to some really good defensive coaches.
It's like your hand, you know, when one finger moves,
they all have to move. And I think your defense,
especially against the run, that's what we see, you know,
(33:42):
and we really like that, the aggressiveness and put pressure
on the quarterback. And I know you're a big part
of that because we call your name a lot.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
So when you look at that defense, you know, last
season it seemed like the secondary was just all over
the place. Defense line and linebackers were active. Uh, but
it was like the secondary seemed to be what it
was all about last year.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
This year it's kind of flipped.
Speaker 1 (34:07):
There's a little bit of an experience at secondary, though
at this point in the season there isn't really an experience. Uh,
do you feel like that the defense is going to
go as far as that front seven takes it.
Speaker 22 (34:22):
I think I think as the as the as the
weeks are progressing, I'm I see more and more out
of our our secondary and I'm like, they're all willing
to learn there. There's they are young, like it's they
like you said, it not much experience, even though at
this point they have experience, but it's week by week
they're getting better and they're learning and learning how to
tackle it. It's just it's just a it's a progression
(34:44):
throughout the season. But and I think I think it'll
always like at the end of the day, we'll come
down to we're front. We're strong up front, but you know,
we're only as strong as are we weakest link. So
as soon as they come around and match our energy,
which they will, you know, we we keep it up
and we're gonna keep pushing no matter what. So no
matter what we do, I feel like they're gonna have
(35:04):
no choice to come along with us, and they are.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
You have faced some pretty good quarterbacks this year. Obviously
nobody really mentions that. Yeah, exactly three undefeated teams, but
look at the some of the quarterbacks you've faced, so
you know it. You know, it's that's just the way
it is. It's the nature of the beast.
Speaker 1 (35:21):
And JJ looking at you know how this defensive front approaches.
Are you one of those guys and the actually all
of those guys is it got to be a tackle
for a loss, a sack like is that every time?
It is like I'm on getting that backfield, I'm going
I'm gonna drop somebody.
Speaker 21 (35:38):
It just really depends on like the down and distance
and everything and what the markers are at and everything.
But I just try to do my assignment and hopefully
it just everything's four and out, four and out, four
and out, and you can.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
Just get the ball well and sometimes you draw the
double team and somebody else comes in and makes a tackle,
and that's just as gratifying. We talked to some of
the guys last week and talked about, you know, getting
in a block for a touchdown. You know, you get that,
you get that block, it's just as gratifying as when
(36:10):
you feel that guy going right off your hip and
in the pay dirt. So I mean that's just the
same way with you. If you take on the double team,
then somebody else gets a tackle. I know that's the
type of player you would be.
Speaker 21 (36:22):
Yeah, it's just all about knowing your assignment and he's
just in practice working at it.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
I have to practice how you play very good.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
Well, coach, let's talk about this county rivalry game this week.
I know it's definitely one of those weeks that you
don't necessarily have to pump.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
Everybody up because they already know.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
And against River Valley last season, you were able to
win that game. So what are your thoughts about the
Vikings this year because it's very much a very similar
team as to what they had last year.
Speaker 20 (36:53):
Yeah, I mean they're an explosive team, very well coached.
You know the Eber kid, and he's special.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
You know.
Speaker 20 (37:00):
I went into the defensive meetings on Sunday and I said,
you know, you know I like to two platoon. I said,
this week, you know, anybody you need defense gotta win
a game for US. Coach Cruan does a great job
with our defense, and I just told him anything you need,
you know, if you need to take an offensive guy
and using us him back there, go ahead and do it.
(37:22):
So yeah, I mean they're a good football team, you know,
I mean they showed it last week. What they did
the pleasant was surprising, surprising when I saw that score.
So you know, our hands well, our hands full. But
you know, we're looking forward to the challenge. And these
are fun games to play and this way you play
the game, these are fun games to play in for
the kids, for you know, the fans. So we're excited
(37:44):
just to you know, be a part of it.
Speaker 1 (37:46):
So you look at the We've talked a lot about
the defense. I want to talk a little bit about
the offense.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
I know after the first game, or during going into
that first game, you were hoping to get a run
game going. Uh it's been probably up and down because
you had again some guys that hadn't really been in
the run game. Do you feel like this is you know,
hopefully this week maybe is one of those weeks where
we can get that run game going, just to get
(38:11):
that balance. And what have you been trying to do
to focus on that?
Speaker 20 (38:14):
Yeah, I mean ray Jaang he got banged up, so
he didn't play against Shelby.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
He didn't play.
Speaker 20 (38:22):
He had a bad sigh, but he's back.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
So you know, we feel that we can run the
ball effectively.
Speaker 20 (38:28):
Offensive line could been doing a better job. You know,
we got weapons on the outside, so you know, we
feel that we can run.
Speaker 2 (38:34):
The ball well.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
I hope that you can do everything. This is one
of those games that for coaching us last week, we
don't ever pick a winner in this game because county teams,
we want everybody to win, but we always look forward
to how good the game will be. And we know
that this is a great game for you guys to
play in because you know these kids, you guys all
(38:56):
know each other. But we hope that you guys can
have some success this week. We've enjoyed watching you week
one and we were looking we circled this game because
we were like, we want to see harding in the
middle of the season too. So we just wish you
good luck and thanks for coming out tonight.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
We appreciate it.
Speaker 20 (39:13):
We appreciate you guys.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
It's great what you guys do, and we really do
appreciate you. We got the easy job.
Speaker 3 (39:18):
Yeah yeah, we just go and sit and just talk
about what happened, you know. Yeah, really enjoy watching good
sportsmanship and kids playing hard. And you know we talk
about this. You know it takes a village and you
guys are a big part of that and the marrying community. Man,
I tell you, there's nothing better to go to a
ball game and watch kids out there putting their heart
(39:38):
and soul out there win or lose, and the coaches
and they're away from their families. You guys realize that,
and wow, it's just fun.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
To go do it is. It's absolutely a blessing. It
was a blessing when I got to play. It's even
better now that I get to see it. So you
guys represent well, we can't wait till Friday. We want
to thank you for coming out tonight again already Head
coach Chuck Williamson, JJ Starks, Landon Adams, thanks for coming out.
And you boys got some food that hopefully isn't getting
(40:07):

Welcome back to the Matthew R. Mccannal Automotive Football Frenzy.
But we're getting ready to talk about the Matthew Sondiacri
Game of the Week.
Speaker 2 (43:47):
There you go. See that's how you segue that good
save man.
Speaker 1 (43:50):
There you go, which we'll be harding at River Valley
and it's two weeks in a row. Now there's not
much you have to say, because it's such a big rivalry.
It's not as a long lasting a rivalry as what
pleasant River Valley is. But I remember the first time
(44:11):
that Harding and River Valley played back in nineteen ninety one,
and it was such a big deal to have a
county school playing against Harding, the city school, and everybody
was there. It hasn't really lost its luster because people
still are like, hey, it's two county schools playing each other,
So you throw the records out, everything doesn't matter. River
(44:34):
Valley comes into the game three and two. Harding is
one and four. We've seen both teams play, and obviously
last week we saw what River Valley can do. I
want to say right here, right now, Harding is not
a one and four team. I mean, their record is
one and four, but we've seen them. This is a
talented team. I know River Valley is not looking past them. Yeah,
(44:56):
the kids at Harding are very resilient. And I know
that coach Williamson, we've known him now. This is our
second year of visiting with him and talking to him,
and we know a lot of the coaches you know
on this staff, Coach kern Uh, you know he's a
good defensive coach and some of the other guys and
UH and and coach Nicolosi.
Speaker 2 (45:17):
Uh Sam is there.
Speaker 3 (45:19):
He's got his grandson's playing and they still have that
connection and they as long as they stick together, you know,
they're going to give a put a put a great
product out on the field. And uh, those kids have
a lot of spirit, a lot of heart, and UH
you know, I'm sure they're looking forward to uh coming
out and really representing harding this week against River Valley,
you know.
Speaker 2 (45:39):
And UH, I think they're going to be very resilient.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
And I you know, we're not going to predict who
we think will win this game, because honestly, I don't
think we can. But there I think we can talk
about some keys for both teams going into this game.
You heard, if you've been listening to this program, you
heard from two of the the top defensive players for
and that defense is really aggressive. They're they're one one
(46:06):
of the best probably front sevens you'll see in the conference.
They've struggled a little bit on the backside. If this
is a game where that that secondary finally gets it
together like they've been trying to, it could really pay dividends.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
For Harding. Well.
Speaker 3 (46:21):
Ebert showed last week against Pleasant he was able to
get the ball off very quickly. Pleasant trying to blit
somebody pretty much on every play from one side or
the other, and so that he's he's pretty crafty. You know,
they have a system where if the deeper pass isn't open,
he's gonna dump it off and let one of the
guys take it and try to get some yardies that way,
(46:42):
and he was very successful. Ontario, on the other hand,
was able to get pressure and they ran and it
was a very hot night and so maybe.
Speaker 2 (46:50):
They this why they why they did it.
Speaker 3 (46:52):
They ran guys, uh, a couple guys at a time
every pretty much every play on and off the field.
Maybe one of the things that Harding needs to do
is get lined up go no huddle so they can't substitute.
Speaker 2 (47:05):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (47:06):
That might be a little bit of a strategy there,
but I think that, uh, you know, Harding's gonna have
to corral Ebert. Uh if he has to run, he
will run. But we haven't really seen it yet because
he hasn't had to run. But Ontario they wouldn't let
him run. They had somebody spying on him. So I'm
sure the coaches have taken a look at the film
and they're gonna take you know, coaches are there. They're
(47:28):
notorious for stealing ideas from other people.
Speaker 1 (47:31):
And if it's not stealing, it's just it's well, it's
it's the footprint on how to maybe be successful against
that team.
Speaker 3 (47:40):
And I know the harding coaches are gonna be looking
at that. But uh, you know, they're gonna do everything
possible with that defense to try to shut him down.
Speaker 1 (47:47):
And when you look at River Valley, it's all about
getting creating the mismatches on offense. That's what they do.
Uh And and we saw it last week. They took
those underneath passes to soften up the defense to be
able to take it down deep. And once Ebert gets comfortable,
he completes a couple passes, he doesn't need much to
get confident, but once he does, it's it's lights out.
(48:10):
I think, you know, River Valley feels good about what
they're doing on offense. I think the defenses where this
week they might have a little bit of a struggle
because they're going up against a team that does throw
the ball okay and does is trying to establish a
run game, and it's a lot different than what they
faced against Pleasant.
Speaker 3 (48:32):
Yeah, I mean, you know we talked about River Valley,
you know, three and two. They could be a yo
yo team. Yep, they knock off Pleasant last week. Maybe
that's not the team that shows up. I don't know
if they're listening tonight, but you know, I know last week,
I'm sure the coaches didn't really have to say one
word about getting up for the game.
Speaker 2 (48:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (48:53):
He probably had a really electrified offense or electrified practices
where they were were focused and locked in. They got
off the bus and they played that way. This week
they're playing against a team, the one and four team,
and maybe if they look at the record, and we
always say, if you don't have butterflies by Thursday night,
you're in trouble, because I don't care how many times
(49:16):
you've played a football game or coach in a game,
even coaches get butterflies. And if you don't have a
you know, if the coaches have to be grouchy all
week and do the yelling during practice, then you look
out because the other team, no matter what the record is,
can kind of knock you off. So that's the thing
that River Valley has to protect against whether it be
(49:37):
a rivalry team or not. So they've got to come
out and match the intensity that Harding is.
Speaker 2 (49:43):
Going to bring Friday night.
Speaker 1 (49:44):
So it's going to be a great night for the
Matthews Hontakura High School Game of the Week at River
Valley between Harding and River Valley.
Speaker 2 (49:52):
And before we go.
Speaker 1 (49:53):
Tonight, we want to have Mark on one last time
just to talk about what if anything coming up, but
also your specials and you know, we don't have the
ticket giveaway tomorrow. We will have the McDaniel Automotive Buckeye
ticket giveaway next week.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
Yes, sir, ahead of the Iowa game, which is.
Speaker 5 (50:11):
A three thirty kickoff that day. They just announced this week.
So basically though, just the same thing that I reiterate
every week.
Speaker 2 (50:20):
Man.
Speaker 5 (50:21):
You know, Unfortunately, like I said, no ticket giveaway tomorrow,
but that still doesn't mean we aren't running the wing
special with the best wings in town. I will die
on that hill. We do ten for twelve dollars Monday
through Friday. On Monday, we do that from open to close,
and then Tuesday through Friday, we like to do that
from two o'clock to five o'clock. We also, every day,
(50:42):
seven days a week, twenty four hours a day, we're
running the two fifty Margeritas in the three fifty Long Island,
So I know those are very popular around these parts.
And you know, again Sunday, if you're looking for a
place you want to watch more than just the Bengals
in the Browns disappoint everybody. Yet again, we've got all
the other successful teams uh in the NFL will be
(51:04):
on television hat Ralfies with the cheeseburger specials.
Speaker 2 (51:07):
So you're gonna have Steelers on. That's all I want
to know, you know what.
Speaker 5 (51:10):
Yeah, yeah, it's a when you're intentionally trying to hurt
my feelings, coach, it.
Speaker 2 (51:14):
Really gets I think they're.
Speaker 5 (51:17):
Back this year three and oh they don't have a quarterback.
Speaker 2 (51:20):
They got that ex Buck guy. Man, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 5 (51:22):
The Rooneys must know what they're doing. I'll tell you what.
Speaker 1 (51:25):
Well, I apparently Art Rooney made a deal with the devil.
And you know, man, they're saying they're they're still basking
in it. I'm saying, this is a Browns fan who
lives his life in misery.
Speaker 5 (51:36):
So you know, constantly maintained that before the Bengals got
Burrow and they were even considered to be worth a darn,
my favorite team in the NFL was generally whoever was
playing the Steelers on Sunday, so that hurts.
Speaker 3 (51:49):
Hey, don't do anything to my Hoover solid tonight, man, Absolutely.
Speaker 5 (51:54):
Not, sir, Oh you wounded me, Coach, you.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
Will all right, well, Mark, thanks for having a.
Speaker 5 (51:59):
Sky Thank you, McDaniel's motors. Thank you. You guys have
fun at the game this Friday, and we will see
you next week. Gentlemen, sounds good.
Speaker 2 (52:07):
We're going on all right.
Speaker 1 (52:08):
Wrap things up here at Ralfie's for coach Couzio. I
am Eric Moseley and hope you will listen this Friday
night to the Matthew Hontaker a high school game in
the week partying at River Valley. But until then, we
hope you have a good night, good rest of the week,
and good night everyone.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
