Speaker 1 (00:00):
Join us.
Speaker 2 (00:00):
Right now is Mark full general manager at Ralfie's. And Mark,
it's it's a Wednesday. This is the day I have
circled every week because not only do I get to
do this, but I get to eat great food.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
There you go, so you.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Know, and as well circled every Wednesday on the calendar
like uh, you know since it came out in January.
Actually yeah, exactly no, but yeah, So Elgin's going to
have homecoming this week.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
Huh yep, el home coming right.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
And I didn't I didn't even hear you guys. Who
are they playing this week?
Speaker 1 (00:32):
Waynsfield Goshen.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Oh okay, it's actually even had time to look at
that a league rival. They've won the Northwest Central Conference
the past couple of years, so one of those teams
that Elgin wants to be able to knock off and
and try to do something against. And when you when
you have homecoming as well as just builds all the excitement.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
And so I'm sure all the students and uh and
players are all busy this week with all that stuff,
so U but hey, we're still here. We're doing this.
We have got the UH one pound hot Dog Special
tonight for ten Bucks comes with the side of your choice.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
And what can you get on that hot dog?
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Like anything that you would like, So, like if you
want to get chili, yeah, oh absolutely, okay, how about
sour kraut.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
What's sauer kraut? We have that as well, sour kraut.
Really I don't understand, like a dog without chili on
it is kind of like a cheeseburger with no cheese.
I just don't understand. You know who eats the regular cheese.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
But get a just a strip of mustard, some chili
and someing.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
And I was just gonna say, you gotta have mustard,
onion and chili.
Speaker 3 (01:34):
And I'm not even I'm not even against like completely
burying the hot dog and toppings and eating it with
a fork. That is something I enjoyed taking.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Yeah, that's even better.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
And you can't eat a pull pork sandwich without a
coal slaw.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
Yeah, that's where pork.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Sandwiches are outstanding and everything too. So so we'll see
how tonight goes. We're staffed up, ready to go. Everybody's excited.
Love to see you guys, big. Thank you again the
McDaniel motor for doing this for us every week. A
really appreciate it. So, and don't forget, guys that tomorrow
night we are giving away two tickets to the vaunted
(02:08):
Iowa offensive attack that's coming to Columbus.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
There is nobody coming to that game looking for Iowa's
offensive attack. Well, they might be looking for it and
trying to find it for Iowa, but they won't find it.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
I say, with Ohio State's defense in the way they're
playing right now, any points made from Iowa is a
failure by the defense.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
But coach Day did say that they are getting better
and they're more physical than they've played some of the
other teams.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Oh yeah, Coach Day is a class act. He's gonna
play politician, so you know. But guys, I'm gonna get
back and help these girls out. You gentlemen, have a
great show. Great to see us always. Thank you so much,
and we'll talk to.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
You a little later. All right, absolutely, thank you, Mark.
Thanks guys.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
I'm already hungry talking about the big old hot dogs,
so you know, I'm ready to eat, but we will
get to that later. Actually, let's talk about week six.
And it was an interesting week basically, or interesting night basically.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Because the weather.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
Everybody that played on Friday night was affected by the weather,
and if you look at most of the scores in
the area, it kind of reflected that the game we
did on Friday night was River Valley Harding. River Valley
did win that one ten to nothing Overhearding. That dropped
Harding to one in five. River Valley ups their record
of four and two, and it was it was a
(03:28):
very close game for quite a while. The biggest differences.
River Valley did add a few things and I don't
even know that they added them, They just pulled them
out of the playbook to run the ball a little
bit more, and then they were able to do their
passing game just enough. And the kicking game for both
teams ended up being a big part of that game. Yeah,
(03:49):
one of the things that we mentioned during the course
of the game, you could.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Tell Coach Wattle realized.
Speaker 4 (03:55):
That, you know, you didn't have to win by fourteen,
you didn't have to win by ten, which they did.
But when once they got the first score, they knew
they had to play it close to the belt, and
they still tried to pass the ball at times, you know,
running the ball, passing the ball, getting up getting first downs.
But they wanted to be sound. They didn't want to
give a cheap turnover and allow Harding to get an
(04:17):
easy touchdown short field position. They almost did you on
a punt, but well we can talk about that in
a minute. But I think coach Waddle uh did a
great job of time management. And as soon as they
got up seven, he said, we're gonna take We're gonna
take the air out of the football and we're gonna
run the ball. We're gonna keep guys in bounds. We're
gonna take our time, uh snapping the ball and uh
(04:41):
instead of going with upbeat tempo, which they normally do,
since they were passing, you know, really good high powered
passing team. He did a great job of uh, you know,
taking and giving his kids an opportunity to have success
and to win the football game.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
And I was really impressed with that.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
And for so many years we watched River Valley with
the air raid offense that just when they got the
ball they were scoring, and then they try to get
the ball back and score as many times as they
could within the time they had, no matter what the
weather was. And now you're seeing under coach Waddle, especially
this season, they've learned how to run that spread offense,
(05:18):
but take as much time as they can. They're letting
the play clock go down as far as they can
if they need to. And it's really they're able to
dictate the time of possession so much now with this offense,
which is nice to see. And you're right, coach, the
time of possession was clearly favoring River Valley in the
(05:39):
second half, Harding had their chances. It was just a
tough situation and we talked about and there's no excuses
Coach Williamson will say that probably till the cows come home.
But you have a kid playing quarterback that has not
played quarterback, but he is your best athlete there on
offense in Harbolt, And it's just one of those things
(06:01):
that it is what it is. They tried to do
the best they could. Like the attitude and the aggressiveness
and the no quit that Harding showed in that game.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
Yeah, we talked about that clear to the very last
play of the game. They played, I thought, with a
lot of class and a lot of poise, and even
under the adverse conditions including the weather, they didn't, you know,
get their heads down and they had a lot of
things that they could have, but they did not. And
even the last play, they still being down two scores,
(06:34):
they were still trying to make first downs and still
try to score. So you got to give him a
lot of credit, a lot the coaches. That's coaching, that's
setting the tone for the week and those kids. And
I think coach Williamson, you know, has got things going
in the right direction. And I know coach Nicolosi real well,
and you know his grandsons are playing. We talked about
(06:55):
that all the time. Those kids that played Friday night,
those kids that played Friday played their hearts out. Yeah,
and uh, you know, you know they're one and five,
but uh, they're not going to quit. They're not gonna quit.
They're going to keep on rolling.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:09):
And it's uh, you know, it's unfortunate in that game
that there had to be a loser. But I love
the way the game and the game was played very cleanly, too,
as clean as it could be. There weren't a lot
of penalties. Uh, there weren't especially any extracurriculars that they
really did play well. And one thing I didn't mention
on the broadcast, but I noticed that when the game ended,
(07:30):
they shook hands and everything. Harding huddled up on on
one side River Valley huddled up kind of towards the
middle of the field, and it was really interesting to
see the uh the players from Harding actually stopping in
the River Valley huddle, hugging a couple guys.
Speaker 1 (07:48):
It was just good to see.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
So it's that's what you want to see out of
a game like that, and uh, it was. It was
a fun game to watch. Pleasant they traveled over to
clear Fork and was in a battle against clear Fork
won that game seventeen to ten in overtime. That moves
Pleasant to four and two. It's a lot tougher in
the MOAC this year, and even clear Fork, who has
(08:12):
only won two games, they are still a tough team
to travel to and play against.
Speaker 4 (08:19):
Yeah, when you go to clear Fork, you better tieme
on tight because they're going to be going at it.
We've done a few games over there and it seemed
like every time we would go over over the last
so many years, Pleasants played and I think there were
a couple of game winning field goals, one Pleasant one
and one clear Fork one. But those guys over at
(08:42):
clear Fork, they have that proud tradition and they packed
the stadium, and it's a tough place to win and
tough place to play, and I could just about imagine
the intensity that was going on, especially once they went
to overtime. But I'll tell you what, once again pleasant
went over there under the tough conditions and came out
(09:02):
with a seventeen to ten win.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Especially you know, it.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
Had to have been raining over there too, yep, And
it had to be in a wet field, and anything
can happen, especially turnovers, and sometimes the play gets a
little sloppy, mistackles, so and so forth, guys fall down.
But somehow they pulled it out four and two, setting
pretty good.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
You know. Last year CJ.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
Westler was his first year and he got things that
pointed in the right direction. I think he's continuing that
this year.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
And if you don't know, Clear Fork has an all
weather field, and when it rains like it did on Friday,
that becomes a very slick surface. There's no doubt about it.
Some people think that playing in the mud is tough.
It can be tough playing on all weather in the rain.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Yeah, you know, depends on what type of team you are.
If you even if you run the football, the running
backs have to hold on to it. So I could
have just about imagine the hitting was pretty intense too,
because both of those teams really like to do good
job of blocking and tackling, and they're very fundamentally sound.
And when coach Dave Carroll was over there as a
(10:07):
head coach for several several years, he brought that hard
hitting and I know they really got in the weight
room and got after it, and so those guys really
know how to play the game and the fundamentals they
definitely you know, put up the put up at the top,
and it's a.
Speaker 2 (10:25):
Tough place to play and pleasant got to win and
they should be very proud of that. Elgin traveled down
to Worthington Christian and had faced a tough Worthington Christian
team and lost forty one to nothing. That dropped elgend
to three and three. Not knowing a ton about Worthington
Christian but knowing a lot of the teams that they play.
(10:46):
That was a team that was sitting at I believe
three and two going into that game, but a or
maybe I was two and three actually and not a
typical two and three team. And anytime you're playing a
team that you're not used to playing. It doesn't matter
if it's the beginning of season, we're in the middle
of the season.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
It can be tough to play.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
And I know Elgin went down there and played as
tough as they could, but sometimes you just meet a
better team.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Well, the coach is one of the coaches sitting right here,
so I'm gonna let him speak on that. Yeah, we'll
get into that more a little bit later. But one
of the things is when you're playing a team that
you're real familiar with, you know their tendencies very well,
and you know their type of offense and type of defense,
and if you've been at a school long enough, you
kind of know what they do. But you're right playing
(11:31):
Worthington Christian, you know, might have been something that they
you know, had some plays that they didn't run, you know,
prior to their game, and that type of thing. I
didn't really hear. Coach can maybe elaborate and maybe wants
to forget about that and move on to this next week.
Speaker 1 (11:48):
But yeah, we h.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
I always have somebody at the Elgin games, always have
try to have somebody at the pleasant games. And when
we're doing a game that we're not at and they
gave they gave me the score in the first quarter,
second quarter, and then it jumped, you know, jumped, the
score really jumped up there, and I just wondered if
there's some quick turnovers.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
So we'll hear about that here in a little bit.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
And then Harden Northern took down Ridgdale forty two to nothing.
Ridgdale drops to one in five. Ridgdale has been through
a really tough stretch in the Northwest Central Conference, very
good teams. They're playing the top part of the conference.
It looks like they're finally through that stretch. And I
haven't heard much about this game, but hopefully Ridgdale after
(12:32):
this will be able to find a way to string
together a few wins.
Speaker 1 (12:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
One of the things that Ridgdale has to do and
that with a small numbers, they've got to keep kids healthy.
And we're going to find out more and more about
that type of thing one see, you know, as we
get closer to doing another game, and we'll find out there.
But it was a pretty good chance that they've got
some key players that are out and but you know,
one thing for sure, coach Chapman is going to be
(12:58):
coaching them up and keep keep things going. He had
a great season last year and the kids found out
how to win, and I'm sure they're still giving.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
It all they have this year. All right.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
So that's a rundown of week six. We'll take a break.
When we come back, we will preview three of the
games coming up in week seven for Marion County teams,
and then after that we'll talk to players and coaches
from Elgin. We're just getting started here at Ralfie is

Speaker 9 (14:38):
Please are more of an issue in the fall of
the year because they're very dependent on the environmental conditions
for their life cycle. Their life cycle can go, I mean,
can be as quick as five days or as long
as two to three months, all dependent upon the environmental conditions.
(15:00):
They require moisture just like everything else, and temperature and
all this other stuff. So it's important to keep from
having a problem with please is to understand their life
cycle and how you can kind of combat it at
certain points within the life cycle.

Welcome back to the McDaniel Automotive Football Frenzy live at
Ralphie's Sports Eaterie. Well, we talked about week six, Now
let's talk about week seven. The game's coming up in
the county this week. Some big matchups going on. We'll
start with Ontario at Pleasant. It's plea, it's homecoming. Pleasant
comes into this game four and two. Ontario is six
(17:04):
and oh and coach, this is a game that that
should be exciting. We've seen both of these teams and
we know what they can both bring and this is
not necessarily an easy game for either team.
Speaker 4 (17:17):
Now, I think Pleasant is going to be excited, obviously
because it's their homecoming. They're four and two, they're on
the upswing. The thing, the thing that concerns me is
when they go to overtime at clear Fork, using up
a lot of that energy, yeah, and winning that tough
game over there. They've got a they've got to really
guard against a letdown. But I think playing Ontario as
(17:41):
good as Ontario is, that's gonna bring that's gonna pick
them up a little bit. So I'll tell you it's
gonna be a tough one. They're gonna have to corral
the quarterback. They're gonna have to really uh you know,
his passing isn't as good as his running, but he's
a very adequate passer when he needs to be. But
somehow they have got to corral him because he's the
(18:04):
difference maker in that football game.
Speaker 2 (18:06):
And I've been telling everybody that will listen. When we
watched Ontario, a lot of the focuses on Bob pen
Miller because he's an Ohio State signee. He's going to
be playing Division one Big ten football at one of
the premier places. But that team is so much more
than just him. They have a great running attack. And
(18:27):
you're right, coach, it's not that he's the best passer.
He has a strong arm. It's not always accurate, but man,
if you get pressure on him, you've got to be
able to keep him contained in the pocket because once
he gets outside, he's gone. But his running backs, his line,
his defensive line, that defensive front that they have is
really tough.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
Yeah, they were bringing two guys in every other play,
and I think pleasant has got to maybe line up
and just run multiple plays at the line of scrimmage,
and I know their game is to keep the ball
and take time off the clock and shorten the game.
And they do. They do a really good job of
mixing up pass and run. But you're right, the offensive
(19:10):
line for Ontario and the defensive line for Ontario is very,
very good.
Speaker 1 (19:16):
They put pressure on the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (19:18):
Lowry's going to have to have his A game to
be able to elude the pressure. And it's similar to
how when they played River Valley. When Pleasant played River Valley,
they got a lot of pressure on him. So, uh,
that's what was a couple of weeks ago. And I'm
sure the staff got together and they're going to try
to figure out how they can protect Lowery a little better.
(19:39):
So they better be ready to have like we said,
they're gonna Ontario is going to have him tight on tight,
and they know now in the position they are, they're
the they're the team to beat and people are going
to be bringing their a game and and hopefully Pleasant
will bring theirs.
Speaker 2 (19:55):
This week, River Valley travels to Shelby Shelby six and
over River Valley four into another big matchup. Both of
these matchups are going to really make this this conference.
We'll see right now where everybody is at River Valley.
After having a tough stretch at the beginning of the
season and they played some tough games, they've really turned
(20:16):
it around. That victory again was big. Another victory last
week in bad weather against Harding, who is not a
slouch and they beat Shelby last year. So this is
a game that Shelby probably looks at AND's like, look,
we're at home now, we want some revenge here.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
This could be a huge game.
Speaker 4 (20:34):
Yeah, it could be Shelby's homecoming too. And the thing
that I was just going to say, when you have
a team like River Valley had a big, big game
against Pleasant and I haven't seen him play that well.
Speaker 1 (20:47):
You know in the last couple of years. They really
played a great game.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
They got off the bus, they were sharp, they were crisp,
no penalties, no turnovers, and they played extremely well. Now
last week ten nothing win was no indication of how
good they are. I know they have two losses, but
I think they're poised and ready to beat a team
like Shelby because they're going to be playing on it.
(21:11):
They have turf also, yep, and if it's good weather.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
And it doesn't rain.
Speaker 4 (21:15):
If it's no rain and they have no win and
they have great, perfect conditions for their offense, I look
for them to put some points on the board.
Speaker 1 (21:23):
It could be attract meed at Shelby.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
This week, clear Fork travels to Harding, a matchup between
one and five teams, both teams looking for that next,
that second victory. This game very much a toss up.
But if Harding comes in has everybody healthy, I like
Harding's chances in this game.
Speaker 1 (21:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:41):
I like coach Williamson's chances with the team, and he
just has to depending upon the status of the starting quarterback.
Whether he'll be back this week, I don't know, but
Harding will will tie him on. And they're playing at home.
Clearfort coming off of a tough law against Pleasant at home.
(22:03):
I look for clear Fork though, to regroup and feel
like they have an great opportunity. You got two one
and five teams and you know, made the best team win.
And then Ridgdale travels to North Baltimore. Ridgedale at one
and five, North Baltimore at two and four. This is
just a game that each team needs to back up
(22:23):
or you know, step up, and I think both looking
for that victory. Yeah, depending upon their injuries and the
depth that they can, you know, have ready to go
this week. You know, Ridgedale is just gonna have to
tie him on tight. You got to play the schedule
and look for them to Coach Chapman to be very
positive and get his team ready to play.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
All right.
Speaker 2 (22:44):
That's a rundown of every game involving Marion County teams
this week except for one, and we'll talk about that
one after the break where we have Elgin assistant coach

Over fifty thousand police officers are assaulted on the job
each year, leading to injuries and death. This is the
reality they deal with when making contact with the public.
Another reality is that if someone doesn't comply it with
a lawful order or uses force against them, police may
have to use sufficient force in response to obtain compliance.
Use of force is always ugly, nobody likes it, especially police,
(26:29):
and nobody knows how it will turn out. Spread the word.
For de escalation to work, both parties must deescalate and
de escalation isn't necessary. If there is no escalation, help
police by not escalating. Don't attack or try to disarm
an officer, whether it's getting asked a question, getting a citation,
or getting arrested. Don't argue, don't resist, don't flee. After

The McDaniel Automotive Football Frenzy live from Ralphie's Sports Eatery
and join us right now is a trio of comments.
Let's welcome Elgin assistant coach John Van Gundy and players
Landon Shepherd and Colton Long. Thanks for joining us, guys,
thanks for having us. So let's get right into it
and I Coach Winslow put you on the hot seat.
(28:47):
He said, he told me this guy knows more about anything.
Speaker 12 (28:51):
Well, I know about eating.
Speaker 2 (28:54):
You're in a good place, then I'll tell you there
you go, yep, Well, I know that last Friday was
a tough loss at Worthy the Christian. Tell us just
a little bit about that game. What you saw in
that game, maybe some positives that might have come out
of that game.
Speaker 12 (29:12):
Well, there were some positives.
Speaker 20 (29:14):
The one thing that really stuck out to me is
that in the stats, they only had two hundred and
twelve yards but scored forty one points.
Speaker 12 (29:21):
We had two hundred and twenty.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
Yards and didn't score any Wow.
Speaker 12 (29:25):
So the loss was more of an US problem than
them problem.
Speaker 20 (29:30):
We mishandled the ball a few times, didn't capitalize when
we should have.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
Turnovers turnovers, I mean we had five turnovers.
Speaker 12 (29:39):
You can't give the ball away and win.
Speaker 2 (29:41):
Yep, and was I would imagine this is the case
for everybody that played last Friday. The weather just had
to make it even more difficult.
Speaker 12 (29:50):
Well, it was really setting up for us.
Speaker 20 (29:52):
I mean, we're not a passing a great passing team,
but we can run the ball, and it was setting
up for us.
Speaker 12 (29:58):
They're a passing team. It was wendy and real rainy.
Speaker 20 (30:02):
But then they've got a gift with no rain until
the very end, so you know, it just played to
their hand a little bit, but we just had to
take care of business.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
Yeah yeah, well let's just forget about all that. We'll
just move on from that. But let's look at where
you guys are at at this point as opposed to
where you were at last year. At this point, it's
a little bit different and talk about you know, what
you found to be some of the biggest differences from
that team last year to this team this year.
Speaker 20 (30:34):
Why I would say the biggest difference is last year
we had a team at the top and they maybe
coasted towards the bottom. You know, they coasted the season
out a little bit, but they were at top notch.
Speaker 12 (30:46):
Senior heavy, ready to go.
Speaker 20 (30:48):
This year, we got a team that's a little bit
of an unknown and we're at the bottom working our
way to the top.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Now.
Speaker 20 (30:54):
It's been a hilly climb, but we're still going up.
We've got an iron out some things, but we're gonna
get there.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
And you've you've done a good job of keeping that
that attitude that you guys have tried to get with Elgin,
aggressive defense, just power the ball, run run, run, uh
and graduation can do so many different things. And we
know that you guys lost a few guys to graduation.
But it seems like you also were so front loaded,
(31:25):
uh this year with with some interesting games. Now it's
kind of mixed up a little bit more though the
back end is going to be in conference a little
bit tougher.
Speaker 12 (31:35):
It is.
Speaker 20 (31:36):
I mean sometimes when you lose somebody at the door
opens for somebody else.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
Yeah, and it can be better or worse.
Speaker 20 (31:42):
I think this year it's it's better. We got some
young guys getting their first taste of Friday night action,
but they're they're bringing it on. But you know, everything
we want is still on the table. Lost to Ridgemont,
and but they lost last week, So everything we want
in the leagues on the table.
Speaker 12 (31:59):
We just got to take care of business.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
And what's as you said, coach, a freshman isn't a
freshman in week six.
Speaker 1 (32:04):
Yeah, or a sophomore isn't a sophomore.
Speaker 4 (32:07):
We usually give the sophomore three games and a freshman
about five games.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
But uh, yeah, I.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
Mean one thing I was going to ask you, I know,
back in the days, you know when your your kids
are these guys are seniors, right, so when you're juniors,
you can just all you got to worry about is
going out and playing because you got the seniors to
be the leaders. Now, sometimes juniors step up and become leaders.
And if you have a little adversity, those younger players
(32:35):
are looking for somebody, you know, how are they reacting
to that fumble? How are they reacting to you know,
somebody had an offside. So those guys probably will admit,
we're going to talk to them here in a second,
admit that. You know, when you're a senior, you have
a lot more responsibility and maybe I wouldn't say pressure,
(32:56):
but you have a lot more responsibility as a leader
because those younger kids are looking at you and and
I know these guys are probably doing a good job
of taking care of that.
Speaker 12 (33:05):
Yeah, we've got really good senior leadership.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
You know this.
Speaker 12 (33:08):
When you're a senior, it's your mark. That's your year.
Speaker 20 (33:11):
Okay, when you were a junior at somebody else's year,
but this year, it's your year. And our seniors are
leading the team. Well, we've got twelve seniors, some new seniors,
we've got a few of those, but the guys have
been around a long time. They they're really pulling the weight.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
Well.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
One of the things that Eric and I have noticed
when you guys even come in here and this is
kind of an off night because you guys have the
homecoming stuff going on this week, But when you're in
here for the most part, Number one, you have a
lot of support coming in. And the second thing is
how well the players interact with the coaches and the
rest of the you know, the families that are here.
(33:49):
And I think that's a really good indication that you
guys are doing a lot of good things out there
at Elgin.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
We're trying. It's really great. Yeah, we're trying.
Speaker 4 (33:57):
So hey, land and we have Landon Shepherd linebacker, right ye, yeah,
I've called your name a few times on.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
A few tackles. And you also play on the offensive line.
Speaker 4 (34:07):
Right yeah yeah, And it's kind of leads into the question,
how do you feel like the offensive line has coming
together this year?
Speaker 1 (34:15):
We'll come we got together pretty good.
Speaker 4 (34:17):
I mean some guys at the beginning, they haven't really
didn't know really much, but they got a hold of
it and they're doing their jobs pretty good and.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Doing their job.
Speaker 4 (34:28):
Yeah yeah, that's that's kind of you know, your responsibility
and how many seniors do you have on the offensive line?
Just me, just you see that's that's kind of big.
So whenever that defense over there isn't where the coaches
said they were going to be when you had practice
on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, you know it's going
to be up to a guy like you to make
(34:50):
the calls and to get things adjusted correct. Ye yeah, so,
uh yeah, we really And also defensively, you're in on
a lot of plays, and really we call your name
a lot. And uh, which one do you like playing better?
Offense or defense? I love defense?
Speaker 1 (35:06):
Yeah, I.
Speaker 2 (35:08):
Hate to say, coach. I mean I was an offensive
lineman and defensive end. I didn't enjoy offensive line as
much as I did defensive end.
Speaker 4 (35:15):
Yeah, you just get out there and go, don't you
just just react to what's happening in front of you.
Speaker 1 (35:20):
I just enjoy, you know, love flying around and do
my thing.
Speaker 4 (35:23):
So well, we've called your name a lot, and you're
and I believe you're probably in on a lot of tackles.
We don't have your stats here, but I'm sure probably
leading the team in tackles. They're close to it.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
I have no clue. Okay, he's not worried about the stats.
Speaker 4 (35:39):
Well, Colton, we have Colton Long here, what's your favorite
part about playing defensive end?
Speaker 1 (35:44):
Colton?
Speaker 6 (35:47):
Well, I started on as linebacker and then I stepped
up to D lineman Land That's why I played youth football,
and well, I just love it.
Speaker 1 (35:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (35:57):
You know we talk about uh and coach here, would
it probably admit you win your games with the offense
and defensive lines?
Speaker 1 (36:05):
Is that right? Coach? Yeah? So Colton? Uh? Uh what
is you?
Speaker 4 (36:11):
You know you've been Uh So, you've just been playing
defensive line this year. And I remember last year you
were a linebacker.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
Correct last year? Okay, you were d line too. Uh.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
I know I remember calling your name quite a bit.
And uh, I'll tell you what. Uh I think we
even mentioned last year. And I'm gonna throw throw a
little bone to the weight room because last year I
noticed a lot of really hard tackles by you guys,
and I think, would you admit that the weight room
(36:43):
is really attributed to that?
Speaker 3 (36:45):
Yeah, we got a new weight room, so yeah.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
So it's uh yeah, the uh we took a tour
last year and it was very it was unbelievable. Back
back in the old days, we used the free weights
and stuff, and now you guys are using these these machines,
and you guys have a pretty.
Speaker 1 (37:01):
Good turnout when you do your weights. Yep. Yeah, summer
workouts go pretty big.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
Yeah, we had probably the highest number of kids show
up this summer.
Speaker 1 (37:09):
Nice, that's good. That's what it takes. You know.
Speaker 4 (37:12):
We always say that individuals are made in the off season,
but teams are made in the end season. So I
think you guys are on the right track. And also
a little feather in the wrestling programs KAT.
Speaker 12 (37:29):
Running hand in hand with us.
Speaker 4 (37:30):
Yeah, Coach Pasma has got a good group of kids
out there, and I know you guys are probably I
don't know if both either of you wrestle, I do,
but you Yeah, So that's perfect for a defensive lineman. Man,
get in there, get underneath them, and wrap them up
when you get there.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
All right, Well, coach, let's talk about this week. You're
back into conference play against Waynesfield Goshen. Obviously, Goshen has
been at the top of the league for the past
few years, little bit down this year, but there's a
big battle between you guys, Goshen and then Harden Northern
and USB. So these next few weeks are really going
(38:12):
to kind of decide how the conference goes. Tell us
what you think about Waynsfield Goshen right now.
Speaker 20 (38:16):
Well, I mean, Waynesfield's a good team. They they've got
a new coach and he's running the wing tea. I
mean they're a true wing t center out first call
to play, hustle the line and run it, which probably
is better for us, less thinking, more doing. They run
(38:37):
the ball eighty percent of the time, which plays to
us really well.
Speaker 12 (38:41):
But they're aggressive. They've only got twenty guys on the whole.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
Team, oh wow, which.
Speaker 20 (38:47):
In the last four or five years they've had forty
or so, so they're down in number.
Speaker 12 (38:53):
So they got eleven iron men.
Speaker 20 (38:55):
I don't think many of the guys on the on
the sideline come into the game at all, which that's
to our advantage. We've got fifty guys and we've got
about thirty of them that play on a regular basis,
so we've got fresh legs. We're gonna have to use
that to our advantage.
Speaker 2 (39:10):
Well, I know that when I was making the schedule,
I circled this game because I was like, okay, not
knowing what Waynesfield Goshen was bringing back, but knowing last
year that was a big game to end the season,
wasn't it, or right towards the end of the season,
and I knew this was one of those games that like, yeah,
I think we need to be there, and I'm looking
(39:31):
forward to it being homecoming as well, because every time
we go out there, it's homecoming for us because we're
elegent people. But to be able to see all the
sights and sounds, and you know, you guys have such
a great facility out there, it's going to be a
lot of fun. And I think everybody that wants to
see some good, hard hitting football. When you've got two
(39:52):
wing te's going against each other, you're going to see
a lot of hard hitting football.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
We might be done about nine to fifteen on Yeah,
I know.
Speaker 12 (40:00):
I was just going to say, don't come late because
it'll be over them.
Speaker 2 (40:02):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you want to The first first half
will be done at seven twenty. And any anytime coach
somebody has two backs in the backfield, you have a
special place in my heart.
Speaker 1 (40:14):
I get it.
Speaker 20 (40:15):
You know, football is about ten guys blocking and one
guy getting the ball.
Speaker 1 (40:19):
That's right.
Speaker 20 (40:19):
Yeah, And if ten guys block, you know, I tell
these guys all the time, I said, you know, what
play are you gonna run? I said, well, we just
ran the touchdown play. Well, the touchdown play is every play.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
If it's executed exactly. Yep.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
You know, in a philosophy, you know, I love lineman
because I talk about him all the time, because nobody
talks about him, because everybody wants to talk about the
guy that.
Speaker 1 (40:40):
Has the ball in scortes touchdowns.
Speaker 4 (40:42):
But I always just basically told my lineman, it's you
against him if you're supposed to block, if you're blocking
one on one or if your gap blocking, when you
get to the guy finally, and your job is to
make sure that he does not make the tackle. And
if you have all those guys up front doing that,
and you're gonna get four or five yards at a time,
and uh, you're gonna have a good night.
Speaker 12 (41:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 20 (41:04):
I mean, if we play snapped the whistle every play,
do your job, we'll come out on where we need.
Speaker 4 (41:12):
To be exactly exactly. We're gonna wish you guys the
best of luck. Yeah, Friday night, we're definitely gonna be
out there with bells on and uh wearing comet colors. Well,
I've got my Uh, I've got my jersey that Zach
gave me.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Well, Coach Winslow gave me my old jersey. See, so
I have that he gave me that I'm not going
to wear it because it doesn't fit very well.
Speaker 4 (41:36):
Well, the one that Coach Winslow gave me fits. But
the thing is we can wear him because we're doing
a uh non Marion County School.
Speaker 1 (41:45):
So yeah, we do Ridgedale Elgin.
Speaker 4 (41:46):
We got to be kind of neutral, but we don't
have to be Friday night.
Speaker 1 (41:51):
That's right.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
Well, Coach John van gundy landon Shepherd Colton long, thanks

Speaker 2 (45:33):
Welcome back to the McDaniel Automotive Football Frenzy live at
Ralphie Sports Eadri Eric Mosley alongside coach John Kuzio, and
let's get to it. The preview of the Matthews Honda
Acura Game of the Week Friday Night, Waynesville Goshen at Elgin.
Waynsville Goshen comes into the game four and two. Elgin
is three and three, and I think just looking at
(45:57):
the teams that they've played, Waysville Goshen has had a
rough start of the conference schedule and Elgin kind of
had a rough start to the season a little bit,
but then bounce back a little bit. So it's kind
of interesting to see how both teams come into this.
But after hearing from the players and coaches and coach
John Van Gundy saying you're going to have two wing
(46:18):
tee offenses going up against each other, every yard is
going to be, you know, just a huge thing for
both teams.
Speaker 1 (46:26):
Well, it looks like the weather is going to be great.
Speaker 4 (46:28):
On Friday night, They're gonna be playing at Elgin in
another field is going to be in great condition. I
think Elgin's going to be hungry. I think they haven't
scored in two games. Gonna be twenty eight and then
forty one, and it's their homecoming. They've got to be
excited about that, I think, you know. Especially first of all,
(46:49):
I like to also congratulate John coach Van Gundy for
coming in and pitching in for coach Winslow. He's got
a lot of stuff he's that's going on this week
because of homecoming. But I think coach the coaches, just
talking to coach Van Nick Gundy, I think they're gonna
have them ready. They're the type of group of kids
that respond well to coaching and it's a matter of
(47:12):
cutting out the turnovers and mistakes and getting things put together.
They should have some they should be excited this week.
They have a great opportunity to play a team pretty
much on the same that that's kind of on the
same level, and they're playing at home.
Speaker 1 (47:27):
So I look for them to have a great week.
Speaker 2 (47:29):
And let's face it, everything is right in front of Elgin.
Still Elgin is right there behind the league leaders in
Harden Nor. They're in the Upper Soda Valley who are
both undefeated in the league. But Elgin only with one
league loss and the team that beat them has already
lost too, so they can win a league title or
(47:52):
share for a league title. Thats got to start this week.
Speaker 1 (47:55):
Yeah, they have to.
Speaker 4 (47:56):
Have a short memory about the loss, but they have
to remember the mistakes that they made and try to
correct them for this week. And if they can do
that and eliminate those mistakes, you know, especially I think
he said they had five fumbles last week and you
know a lot of that was weather related and both teams,
(48:16):
but both teams have to play on the field, same conditions,
but they've got to take care of it. He coach
mentioned that the team last year was top heavy with seniors.
This year they're bottom heavy with seniors. So and those
kids are the younger kids are looking for leadership when
(48:37):
things aren't going right, and that's what the seniors have
to do. They have to step up and they and
could be juniors too, or you could be a sophomore
that's ready to lead. So they have to stay positive,
work through the mistakes and put together a full game
this week.
Speaker 2 (48:53):
I think it's going to be a great game at Elgin.
If you don't go out there, we invite you to
listen to the Matthews Hontyactor Game of the Week. We
will start the broadcast at six point thirty with the
premiere optometry to count down to kickoff live from the stadium.
Coach and myself and Scott Cameron down the sidelines. We'll
have all the action for you, so please listen. But
(49:14):
if you want to see some good football, go out
there and watch. And we've reached the end here, but
before we go, I want to talk to Mark Fole,
the GM.
Speaker 1 (49:24):

for us because Elgin couldn't bring the whole crew.
Speaker 1 (49:35):
Well, it's a good crowd here for.
Speaker 3 (49:38):
A few scheduling conflicts with a homecoming going on. But guys,
I mean, come on, We've had Elgin here what four
or five times in the last couple of years, and
it's a madhouse every single time. We love the comments
at Ralfie's. So yeah, so enjoy homecoming. I hope everything
goes good. Hope they get the w on Friday, which
I'm sure they will. And just one more thing real quick,
a reminder to everybody that Tomorrow night, two tickets to
(50:02):
the Iowah Hawkeyes versus Ohio State buck Eyes. We'll be
doing that. You get here before five o'clock, get a
good seat, get a good seat, and excuse me, and
you can cash in on the ten for twelve dollars
wing special that we run Monday through Friday. And of
course it's usually two to five Tuesday through Friday, but
on Monday that's all day and all night, so you
(50:22):
can come in and maybe win some tickets to that.
And also, you know, on Sunday, if you're looking for
something to do, we are one of two places in
town that have every NFL game every Sunday along with
the best cheeseburger special in town, double cheeseburger special in town.
So come on down and check that out, guys. Another
good one.
Speaker 1 (50:42):
Yeah, okay, love it. Mark. I want to interrupt you here.
Speaker 4 (50:44):
Coach over there got one of them double cheeseburgers and
he's still he's been eating on that thing for fifteen minutes.
Speaker 3 (50:49):
Yeah, those guys aren't making a lot of noise over
there right.
Speaker 1 (50:52):
Now, so well, I don't blame them.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
I'd be focused on that food too, But yeah, we
do want everybody to come out tomorrow for the McDaniel
Automotive Buckeye ticket giveaway. Paul James will be here broadcasting
on Magic ninety five to nine. Come on out, get
your name in. Probably around five is when we'll start
in earnest, but he usually gets here about four thirty.
The ticket giveaway will happen at six thirty. You have
(51:15):
to be here to receive the tickets.
Speaker 1 (51:18):
Well.
Speaker 3 (51:18):
And as the season goes on and the games.
Speaker 1 (51:20):
Get better and this isn't a bad game, yeah.
Speaker 3 (51:23):
