And Matthews Honda Accurate.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Now tonight's countdown to Kickoff.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
We are live on the east side of Marion for
River at River Valley High School for the premiere Optometry
group count Down to Kickoff, where we will get you
ready for the Matthews Honta Accurate Game of the Week
featuring the heart We are live at River Valley High

(00:41):
School on the east side of Marion County for tonight's
premiere Aptometry Group count Down to Kickoff, where we will
get you ready for the Matthews Honto Accurate Game of
the Week featuring the Harding Presidents visiting the River Valley
Vikings alongside Coach John Cuzio. I'm Eric Mosley. Last week,
the Vikings had a convincing victory over rival Pleasant and

(01:01):
now they turn their attention to another big rivalry game
against the Prexies. Harding comes into this game off a
loss to Highland and the Prexis are looking for answers
to stop their five game losing skid. So let's bring
in Coach Cuzio. Coach River Valley and Harding have had
some epic battles through the years. What do you think
makes this rivalry so much fun and so special.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
Well, if you look back at the history last year's game,
River Valley came off a big win over Pleasant last
year and Harding knocked them off at their home field,
played a great game. Cap bievert in check they crowdy in.
This is a similar situation where River Valley's coming off
of a big win thirty five nothing victory over the

(01:41):
Spartans at Pleasant, and now they've got to get back
on track. As far as Folk getting refocused, listen to
the coach Waddell talk about how when they got off
the bus they were focused and locked in, and they've
got to get off to a fast start against Harding.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
It's like porn aasoline on a fire.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
If Harding gets off a quick touchdown, they could be
hard to handle tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
And Harding with a few changes tonight. The big one
is ray J Scott Harblet starting at quarterback tonight. Connor
Pennington will not be playing, so that's a little bit
of a different look for Harding tonight. I know it's
not something that River Valley has been able to really
scout because ray J has not played quarterback yet this season.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Well, they've got to get the ball to different people
on the field, just like River Valley does. The field
here at River Valley's great shape tonight. We have had
rain and more rain, and it.

Speaker 1 (02:34):
Could be a factor.

Speaker 3 (02:35):
It's the great equalizer, Eric, especially if you're going against
a passing team like River Valley. Remember last year against
Clear Fork, Claire Fork was able to withstand the muddy conditions.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
This is a little different.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
The fields in great shape and they've really taken care
of it, really got it back.

Speaker 1 (02:55):
So coach Watto, if you.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
Heard him before the game, he said, hey, we know
where we're going, and they on defense, so we'll see
if that holds up. And I really look for River
Valley to and focused and no doubt that Harding's going
to be ready to go. They've played three undefeated teams,
lost to those three teams, had a bad game last
week with some turnovers, and they're just they're ready to

(03:18):
continue to compete and looking forward to.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
The game tonight. It's homecoming here at River Valley. So
a lot going on, a lot going on on their
countdown to kickoff. We'll take a break when we come back.
We will have interviews from Harding head coach Chuck Waddle
or Chuck Williamson and River Valley head coach Matt Waddle.
We'll also go through the other games going on tonight,

(03:41):
but first we'll take a break, and when we come back,
we will have Harding head coach Chuck Williamson. You're listening
to countdown to kickoff on fourteen ninety WMRN.

Speaker 12 (06:34):
It's hard to say to go to stef wiers in past.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Last week is a tough game on island, just not
the way you wanted it to finish. We talked about
it in the mid week's show, But what were some
of those things that you solve? Maybe we're positive in
that game.

Speaker 13 (06:47):
Our kids played hard.

Speaker 14 (06:48):
We still we had an opportunity. It was a one
score if you make it a one score game again,
I was just so disappointed. We played so well, even
though we lost the three to the undefeated team.

Speaker 1 (06:59):
We've played so well and we thought we put it
all together, have a good game.

Speaker 14 (07:03):
But you know, we Connor threw for two hundred something yards.
We did some positive things, but we turned the ball
over way too.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Much, and I'm sure that that was something that was
a focus this week in practice. But you're also you
may have turned the ball over a lot, but your
defense seems to get a lot of turnovers on the season.
We talked about that as well, that if it wasn't
for some of those turnovers you've had, your turnover differential
will be huge. Right now, what do you attribute all
that with the defense to Absolarwier. Coach Curran does a

(07:31):
great job.

Speaker 14 (07:32):
He does cause a strap drill and they count the
straps and they have to get so many turnovers during
to practice. If they don't get so many, they will
go every day. If they don't get that amount, then
they do reminders.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
I can only imagine what those reminders are. The run
game has been something that's been up and down so
far this season. You're at game six, now, do you
feel like maybe the line the running backs are starting
to kind of get together and maybe, you know, opening
up some holes a little bit.

Speaker 14 (08:01):
Yeah, we actually ran the ball pretty well all but
last week, I mean against slim of Senior, I think
Razie ran for over one hundred yards. He was close
to one hundred yards against Malverner. I mean, you have
three straight games. Off of the line is getting better.
They're starting to understand schemes and they're working together. Like
most off of the lines them more together, better they get.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
I know, it's no coach wants to be one in
five at this point. What are some of the things
that you've been telling your team, uh to keep the
motivation going. And it looks like to me from an outsider, perspective.
It's not a group that's necessarily hard to motivate. But
what's some of the things that you try to tell
them just to keep them going looking forward?

Speaker 14 (08:39):
Yeah, we just tell them every day, you know, come
to work, come work hard, do what we can do,
Control what we can control.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
You know, we still have a shot of.

Speaker 14 (08:47):
The playoffs if you know, we can strength some wins together.
We still got that in front of us. So the
league is extremely balanced, so anybody can beat anybody any
given night. So you know, two wins could get you're
a co championship. So you know we have still in
front of us. We just come to work and you know,
worry about this week.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
Well, let's talk about this week. We're here at River Valley.
You've got the Vikings, a big you know, just a
rivalry game more than anything, and the first one for
you guys this season. Talk about the Vikings. What you
see out of them.

Speaker 14 (09:19):
They're good football team, well coached quarterbacks. You know, he
runs the show, Ebert. I mean he's really really good quarterback.
He throws the ball. Well, you know, the offense lives big, strong, defensively,
they're athletic, they move around, they fly around, you know,
it's so it's gonna be a tough task.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
And obviously the weather is very interesting tonight. What do
you ever look at that and does it change your
game plan or is it just kind of like, look,
we've put this game plan in, we're going to try
to run with it for as long as we can.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
I mean, like yesterday, we soaked all the walls.

Speaker 14 (09:55):
You know, we got them all wet, so the quarterbacks
had to throw wet balls, running backs had to carry
a wet all, the receivers had to catch them. So
we did that yesterday with the expectation we were going
to get what we're gonna get tonight. But you know what,
both teams have to play in it, so you know,
we'll just tell them go out and.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
Play be physical. Yeah. Absolutely, Well, coach, good luck tonight.
Hope everybody stay safe. I appreciate it. Thank you. That
was harding head coach Chuck Williamson with his comments before
the game tonight. We'll go ahead and take a break
and when we come back, we'll hear comments from River
Valley coach Matt Waddle. You're listening to the Premiere Optometry
Group countdown to kick off on fourteen ninety WMRN.

Speaker 16 (10:40):
Please are more of an issue in the fall of
the year because they're very dependent on the environmental conditions
for their life cycle. Their life cycle can go, I mean,
can be as quick as five days or as long
as two to three months, all dependent upon the environmental conditions.

(11:02):
They require moisture just like everything else, and temperature and
all this other stuff. So it's important to keep from
having a problem with please is to understand their life
cycle and how you can kind of combat it at
certain points within the life cycle.

Joining me right now is River Valley head coach Matt
Waddle and coach big victory last week against Pleasant and
I know you probably haven't even spent a ton of
time talking about it since it's been over, But what
did you see out of your team after that victory.

Speaker 20 (12:50):
I saw our team that was excited about winning a
football game and excited about beating Arrival and have put
the pitch in a shutout, and I think they understood
what it takes to come out and be prepared to
play a football.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Game for once. And we talked about it before the game,
we talked about it on air during the game. The
focus that the team had as soon as they came
off the bus, that's got to feel good as a coach.

Speaker 20 (13:17):
Absolutely, We've been kind of waiting for that for a
year and a half now and just been preaching about it,
and whatever happened for them to finally get it to click,
it did, and thankful for it and hopefully we can
carry that on throughout the season.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Ebert had a great game, five touchdown passes. I think
we've come to expect that. I want to kind of
talk about Lang though, because he hasn't necessarily been one
that's had a standout game yet and this seemed to
be the game where he got some really good matchups,
was able to get open well.

Speaker 20 (13:48):
I think we had an injury happened real early with
Carter Park went down rolled an ankle was out for
the game, so you know, we turned to Colton to
fill in that slot position for us, and you know,
he had a heck of a game, you know, three touchdowns.
I mean, he was a miss mismatch, so we kept
kind of exploiting that mismatch and uh, you know for him,

(14:11):
you know, just preparing throughout practice, you know, and when
his time came and he stepped up for us, and uh,
you know, we got ten guys that are capable of
going out there and producing for us at the wide
receiver position. So it's always you know, when your numbers called,
you got to be ready to go.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
And the defense came up big all night long. And
I don't think that you guys have been able to
feature it as much in a lot of games. You
faced a lot of passing teams this season. I think
on Friday you everybody got to see just how aggressive
this Valley defense can be.

Speaker 20 (14:42):
Yeah, I mean, uh, you know, we've talked about our
back end being being you know, the more experienced part
of our defense, but uh, you know, our front, our
front seven guys really stepped up and I think The
key was we controlled the line of scrimmage, we stopped
the run, put them in maybe some situations that they
weren't comfortable in, and uh, you know we I felt
like we contain Lowry pretty well and let him get

(15:04):
out and.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
Use his legs too much.

Speaker 20 (15:06):
So you know, overall, the whole defense played well.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
And then we got to continue to keep doing that
and be.

Speaker 20 (15:11):
Be the defense that we've been opportunistic creating turnovers, getting stops,
putting our offense in good situations.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
H feel feel positioned to.

Speaker 20 (15:20):
You know, be able to not have to do those
eighty yard.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
Seventy yard drives. So tonight another county rivalry game against
Hardy and not too many teams end up playing rivals
two weeks in a row. You've done it for a
few seasons in a row. Now what do you see
this Harding team and what do you make of them?

Speaker 20 (15:38):
I mean, obviously, any time you play a Harding you
always they always are going to have athletes so speed. Uh,
you know, it's definitely something we're worried about.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
The gallt of you know, really.

Speaker 20 (15:49):
Good skilled guys that can make plays with the football.
They got a pretty stout defense, that is you know
good against the run, so their front their front seven
is pretty stout, might be the best that we see
all year. So you know, we got to control the
line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball again.
And uh, you know, we got to be able to

(16:10):
do what we did last week, get the ball out
in the space and let our playmakers make plays.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
And I know that you've you've said, you know to
me in the past, weather games don't really matter. We
do what we do. What would you tell the fans
that might be thinking about coming out. I know it'd
be braving the weather, but I would say probably they're
going to see a pretty good game.

Speaker 20 (16:28):
Yeah, I think we're We're expecting a good game from
both teams.

Speaker 1 (16:31):
And you know, even even with the weather, you know,
we're still gonna we're still going to throw the ball
quite a bit.

Speaker 20 (16:37):
And uh, you know, for us, we feel like we
have the advantage because we know where we're going and
the defense doesn't. So you know, if we get the
ball out in space, to our guys, it's it's one
guy to make miss slip whatever the case may be
with the field conditions, and hopefully that plays an advantage to.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Us all right, coach, Well, thanks for taking time, good
luck tonight. I appreciate it. Thank you.

Welcome back to Countdown to kickoff here at River Valley
High School is. River Valley Band is on the field
doing the Alma mater and very windy night the band,
the kids that are playing. It's it's not the easiest
night to play, that's for sure, all right, Good job

(21:56):
by the band there. Let's go through the other games
involving area teams, other Marion County teams in action tonight,
Pleasants traveling to Clearfort. Elgin is going to Worthington Christian
for a non league contest. Hardened Northern is at Ridgedale
for a matchup in the Northwest Central Conference. In the
Northern Ten, Mohawk travels to Bukui Central, Colonel Crawford is

(22:17):
at you Cyrus, Upper Sandusky is at Senec East, and
Carrie is at Winford. That's the game that's being broadcast

Ontario goes over to Gallion and Shelby is traveling to
Highland in the KMAC. Mount Gilliat is at East Knox,
Loudonville is at Danville, Cartington at center Berg, Northmore at Fredericktown.

(22:40):
And then in other area games, North Union travels to
Shawnee and Bexley is at Buckeye Valley, and that is
the action tonight, A wet and wild one tonight everywhere
you go. I can understand why people maybe are staying
home to listen to the game, but there's going to
be plenty of action out here as well. I want
to throw it down to Scott Cameron, our third member

(23:01):
down on the sideline. Scott, you're getting an up close
look at that field. How does it look to you?

Speaker 28 (23:08):
Well, it's not it's not quite facing the same conditions
here as we did Week ten last year. Uh the
way where the weather and field conditions were factored in.

Speaker 1 (23:19):
Uh, well, maybe not.

Speaker 28 (23:21):
As well as we'd hope Career Valley last year Week
ten against clear Forks. But the field is seeming to
be holding up pretty well.

Speaker 13 (23:29):
Walked around the end zone a little.

Speaker 28 (23:30):
Bit where there's a lot of foot traffic and it
seemed pretty, uh, pretty decent.

Speaker 13 (23:35):
So it's it's gonna be interesting.

Speaker 28 (23:37):
I know we're supposed to get some more rain here
over the next forty five minutes, so we'll see how
that impacts the game here in a little bit.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
All right, Thanks Scott, coach, you've you've coached in in
weather games, and you heard coach Waddle in the pregame say,
you know, we don't really change what we do whether
it's bad weather good weather. In your history of coaching,
did you even you know, how did you feel about

(24:04):
a bad weather game? Did you look forward to it?
Did you dread it? What was it? As a coach?
How did you look at it?

Speaker 29 (24:10):
Well?

Speaker 3 (24:10):
We tried to you know, balance, have a balanced attack
with our option game and in our boot action and uh,
you know, run counterplays and reverses and just try to
you know, if passing wasn't our first priority like River
Valley's is that we were, we had plan beat like
if if the field gout, you know, muddy.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
I remember a game.

Speaker 3 (24:30):
Over here years and years ago we got behind early
in the game and end up losing a tough game
like thirty six to thirty five. And uh, we had
some really good games with River Valley over the years.

Speaker 1 (24:43):
And do you just try it?

Speaker 3 (24:44):
You just coach, Like coach Williamson said in your interview
with him, he said, you know, we just uh just
it's going to be the same for everybody, but it's
I think it's going to be the team who can
hang on to the football, get some field position, get
a touchdown early, and then play strong defense the rest
of the way.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
Absolutely, Well, we'll take one more break. When we come back,
it will be time for kickoff between Harding and River Valley.
And we thank you for listening to the premiere optometry
group countdown to kickoff here at River Valley. We'll take
a break. You're listening to high school football in fourteen

(29:01):
of the Night between Harding and River Valley. Harding did
win the toss they have elected to defir So River
Valley will be getting the Ohio State at Marion opening kickoff,
and looks like Colton Lang and Tyler Manette back for

(29:25):
River Valley. Coach, you got some starting lineup.

Speaker 3 (29:27):
Yeah, We've got Snyder receiver Ibert, it's going to be
the quarterback. Jenny's at running back, ax line receiver Craps
will be one of the receivers in and out.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
Carter Park back from an.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
Injury last week. And on the line, we've got Cellar Crawford,
Ward Logan and Kloa. And that sounds like a bunch
of guys up front that are going to do the
work for the receivers and quarterbacks. So it should be
interesting to see what they can do in this first series.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
Jackson Shipley will be kicking off for Harding. That kick
is off and looks like it came down to laying
at the fifteen up to twenty twenty five and tackled
at about the twenty seven yard line, and it'll be
first and ten for the Vikings. It was Kwame Scott
number twenty seven, showing great leadership there as a senior

(30:16):
going down making the opening kickoff. Here tackle, so Harding's
going to have their defense out. We'll get to those
guys goodin Glover, Stinson, Fags, Griffin, Keller, Marx Adams Long
starts in the other Kellor at defense. Four wide receivers

(30:37):
for River Valley. Ebert with a back in the backfield.
Looks to be Addison Babb next to him. Ebert and
the shotgun back to pass. He's looking, he's getting pressured
and he just throws it away as he is hammered.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
Good pressure. They are number twenty three. Keaton Ward, Yeah,
number five there on the coverage. Juju Glover. One of
the things that he did last week against Pleasant, anytime
he got in trouble, just threw it away. Second, ten,
third and ten. Really isn't much of a problem for
River Valley. They can pick up a first down pretty
much at any time.

Speaker 1 (31:19):
Three wide receivers up top, single coverage down here Bab
in the backfield next to Ebert, he's on his right side.
Ebert back to pass. He looks he's going one on
one and that's thrown to the inside incomplete good coverage
there by. Jerry Williams on Colton Lang.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
Yeah, Jerry Williams right on the spot there. They tried
to test him early. You heard coach Waddill say that
if they find a mismatch, they're going to try to
exploit that, and that time they tried. But Williams was there.

Speaker 1 (31:49):
Really nice play and the Harding secondary has struggled at
times this season, but at this point the inexperience should
be out of the way. Third down and ten for
the Vikings again, three wide receivers up top, one laying
down here on the near side, back to pass underneath,
incomplete and just nothing going there for the Vikings on

(32:15):
that first series.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
Yeah, that was Keller Lucas Keller number forty two was
right there to make the play. He had to kind
of throw it to his feet and avoid an interception.
So River Valley is forced to punt on their first series.
So Jaden Griffith back deep for the President's and River

(32:38):
Valley missing somebody coming out late and Hudson Pollock back
to punt and Pollock gets the snap, gets the kick
off and that bounces and takes a nice role. Then
it dies at a about the twenty seven yard line

(33:00):
of Harding. That's where the Prexis will take over. First
and ten. We'll see what this offense looks like with
ray J. Scott Harbold at quarterback. Yeah, like to mention,
Hudson Pollock is their kicker and funter. He's averaging forty
yards a punt on sixteen punts this year and he's
a very good weapon to have on the team.

Speaker 1 (33:19):
Yeah, we said on the Football Frenzy, this game features
two of the best kickers in the MOAC. And that's
not something you can always say when you have two
outstanding kickers in the same county, but both of these
teams have outstanding kickers. First and ten for the Presidents,
they're going five wide. Carbold alone in the backfield and

(33:41):
Shotgun gets the snap. Now he goes and takes off
and he is wrapped up right away. That's a loss
of about three on that one.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
There's fifty one. He had a heck of a game
last week for the Vikings. That's the JJ Walton defensive
tackle six two two sixty five. He's very active and
he came to play tonight.

Speaker 1 (34:05):
Ray J.

Speaker 3 (34:05):
Scott Harbald is in the lineup as quarterback, and like
you said, they're gonna spread the field and try to
spread the Vikings out.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
Also find a hole to run through. So second down
and thirteen man in motion that's Adams and now just
to run straight forward there by Harbolt and he gets
back to the original line of scrimmage. Yeah, Henna, they're
just gonna go.

Speaker 3 (34:32):
It's more or less a wildcat formation there with Harbaut quarterback.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
And we have somebody injured for Hardings, like.

Speaker 3 (34:40):
Number number fifty there. That's Harker vera Garcia offensive lineman.
They can't afford to lose him. He's a real fine
offensive lineman for Harding.

Speaker 1 (34:52):
So coach, really, we're looking at what both teams did
River Valley, just like Coach Waddle said, we're gonna come
out and do what we do passing on every down.
Harding was probably the bigger question mark because we just
didn't know what they would do with Ray j Erek quarterback. Yeah,
they're gonna try to play field position and try to
work for a turnover and try to get a big

(35:13):
play defensively and maybe have a short field and catch
the Vikings off guard. But right now, the Vikings have
done a really nice job in the first three plays
in this series, two wide on each side, slot to
the right. Now man in motion, and it's just a
shovel pass forward. That's to Jayden Griffith and he gets
tackled right away. Looks like a loss there, so brings

(35:36):
up fourth down.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
Yeah, the Vikings are just teeing off and that was
Snyder I believe, came up and it looks like he's
going back to receive the fund and I think two
weeks ago he won. He was the MVP correct and
and against Ontario Real fine ballplayer offensively and defensively for

(35:58):
the Vikings.

Speaker 1 (36:00):
So Shipley as a late man coming on for the
punt team for Harding. Shipley back to punt Snyder at
about his own forty Chipley's line drive punt comes down
and rolls nice rolls. Snyder's gonna try to pick it
up now he just falls on it and loses about

(36:20):
three yards at the thirty yard line. I was just
gonna say before that punt, Vikings are winning the field
position battle if Snyder could get any kind of a
return that time. He didn't get the return. They've got
to win at their back.

Speaker 3 (36:33):
So they've got to take advantage of this in this
first quarter and try to get something going here in
this second series. So first and ten Matthew signed actor
first down for River Valley Viking second offensive series. Now
a bit of a bunch formation with just a wide
receiver on each side and a slot or actually tight

(36:57):
end right slot left, So a little bit different formation
for River Valley. One back in the backfield. Ebert hands
it to that.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
Back and he elbow comes out and it is jumped
on by the Vikings. But a hard hit there in
the backfield.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
Yeah, they brought Harrison Bradley plays a great defensive end
for the Vikings. They put him a tight end and
they were basically on a block down and they were
bringing the house.

Speaker 1 (37:23):
Pulling from the backside.

Speaker 3 (37:24):
Looked like the Green Bay Packers sweep there, but boy,
big hit by the hurting defense and almost cost him.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
So second down and eleven tight right slot, right, wide
receiver on each side, back in the backfield next to Ebert.
Ebert hands it off on the sweep and tackled for
about a game of one. That was Tyson Waddle, first
carrie we've seen him have.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
This is a little different than last year. We keep
referring back to the clear four game. But coach Waddle
did come up with a plan B and he's gonna
try to do some things to get, find a scene
and maybe I pick have some first downs, get a
little better field position, and then open it.

Speaker 1 (38:10):
Up so be third down in a rain is coming
down even stronger.

Speaker 2 (45:56):
The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the.

Speaker 1 (45:59):
Way, all right back here at River Valley High School.
Apologize for the technical difficulties. The rain started coming down
harder and we lost everything. But River Valley just made
a big completion to Eli Snyder and it's first and
ten of Matthews Hontaker first down at the Harding thirty.

(46:21):
About a forty yard reception there, Coach, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (46:25):
You know, the wind in the rain has been a
great equalizer so far, except on that one play where
he was able to hit Snyder getting behind the defender.
And now the Vikings are knocking on the door on
the thirty yard line going in.

Speaker 1 (46:40):
So incompletion on first down makes it second down, and
believe it or not, the rain is coming down harder,
so no backs in the backfield, bobbled snap, but then
Ebert takes off up to the thirty or twenty five
to the twenty, and I think that's enough for Matthews
Hontaker first down.

Speaker 3 (46:57):
Yeah, your River Valley started out the first couple series
try to run the ball and trying to get some
passes off, and they were actually getting defended pretty well.
But now I think Ebert's going to have to take
over and do a little bit with his legs. And
that's exactly what he did to pick up that first
down for the Vikings.

Speaker 1 (47:13):
Four wide receivers to the right side and a tight
end over there. So Ebert looking to the sideline. Now
he gives the call to the offensive line. Ten seconds
left on the playclock, three minutes left in the first period.
Ebert back to pass. He throws it out complete up

(47:35):
ahead to the ten yard line. That's Luke axe Line,
about a gain of eight yards, brings up second down.

Speaker 3 (47:44):
Yeah, that was a real nice catch by ax Line.
He came into this game with twenty one receptions and
four touchdowns.

Speaker 1 (47:50):
They've got like.

Speaker 3 (47:50):
Four guys with four touchdowns on the receiving so Ebert's
really done a great.

Speaker 1 (47:55):
Job of spreading the ball out this year. Second down
in two and back to pass is Eber. He throws
it across the middle just a little bit too low incomplete,
brings up third down.

Speaker 3 (48:06):
Yeah, it was right there. Number four for hearting and
that was Josiah Gooden. Really made a nice play there.

Speaker 1 (48:18):
So now third and two and coach, they've been spreading
it out here after trying to run it on their
last offensive series. Third and two. You gotta think this
is definitely a run pass option.

Speaker 3 (48:29):
They're doing something a little doffer going bunch. Let's get
under the center.

Speaker 1 (48:34):
Here's a handoff straight ahead, and I don't think he
got In fact, he got pushed backwards. That was number
thirty three Lannon Adams, who we talked to this week,
and he is a beast. Yeah, they're pretty stout up front.

Speaker 3 (48:48):
I think you maybe want to just keep them spread
out and keep the ball in ebertans. Keep it spread
out and you could pick up two yards just with Ebert.

Speaker 1 (48:56):
So a loss of one. Officially, it'll be fourth and
three again, the bunch formation, everybody in tight, one wide
receiver up top, and now a time out taken. That'll
be River Valley's time out. Let's take it down to Scott. Scott,
what are you seeing down there right now?

Speaker 28 (49:17):
A lot of really big rain drops, it is, guys.
There's been times where it has come down really hard.
At the very beginning of possession, before that big reception
there by Snyder, it was coming.

Speaker 39 (49:33):
Down really hard.

Speaker 1 (49:34):
So that was actually a very impressive play while we
were gone, just kind.

Speaker 28 (49:38):
Of capping it for folks.

Speaker 30 (49:41):
Harding did have the ball, Ray j actually.

Speaker 28 (49:43):
Made a pretty decent pass on a rollout blue leg.
So they are showing some ability to pass the ball
and it's not just wild cat run all day. But
they've got to make a big sop right here on
this fourth down to stay in this.

Speaker 3 (49:57):
Hey, Scott, thanks a lot, man. I'm glad you were
your glosses and your raincoat tonight.

Speaker 1 (50:03):
Yeah, all right, fourth and three, Ebert back to pass
and he is pressured and it is complete, but it
is short of the first down that was defended very
well by Harding, and that's a turnover on downs just
when the Vikings thought they had something going.

Speaker 3 (50:21):
Yeah, they had a third and two and try to
bunch it up and hand the ball off, and Harding
was very stout on that particular running play and then
they decided to pass it to the outside, but they
go turnover on downs. But right now River Valley is
winning the field position game here in this late part
of this first first.

Speaker 1 (50:42):
Quarter, minute forty left in this first period, Harding takes
over first and ten at their own eleven yard line.
In case you're just joining us, Ray J. Scott Harbolt
is quarterback for the Prexyes tonight. Two wide receivers to
each side, slot right. Harbolt alone the backfield and he
gets it. He runs and his tackle. There was actually

(51:05):
a hole, a pretty big hole to the left side,
but apparently that play was supposed to go right and
he ran right into the line.

Speaker 3 (51:12):
Yeah, he it would closed up pretty well. Ryan Green
coming from the left defensive end position, and he had
some buddies on the inside coming in to make a
nice tackle there. And those guys played a whale of
a ball game bookend defensive ends. And that's the number
six Bradley and Green boy, I'll tell you what, they
make two great defensive ends.

Speaker 1 (51:35):
It's rolling out to the right and a nice game there.
I believe that was horrible. Yep took it hisself and
he came close to a first down looks like it's
going to be about third and two.

Speaker 3 (51:47):
Yeah, he showed a lot of speed there going up
on the right side and ran by some ran by
the linebackers there, picking up a real nice game and
leaving Harding with a really really about a one yard situation.
Here a man manageable one yard to go and they're
just keeping it on the ground. They're being real patient,

(52:08):
trying to keep from making mistakes and hopefully they can
capitalize on a mistake from the Vikings.

Speaker 1 (52:14):
So it'll be third down and two, five wide receivers,
three up top. Now turns into a slot. Now Harding
takes the time out. Probably see a lot of that
tonight in these big situations like this, and it's early,
you wouldn't think it would be such a big situation,
but not being able to move the ball very well,

(52:36):
both teams are going to be very considerate of what
they need to do well.

Speaker 3 (52:39):
You wouldn't think it a third and one would be
a big play, but it really is. Because of the night,
because of the field position, Harding is going to get
the wind in eighteen seconds if they pick up the
first down, So they're gonna if they pick up the
first down, they're going to start and go back the
other direction with the wind at their back, which actually
is very good puts River Valley's offense trying to throw

(53:02):
against the winds. So really a big third down play
for both teams here, all right, So eighteen point one
seconds left in the first period, third down and one
for the prexis.

Speaker 1 (53:17):
Ray J alone in the backfield. Both these teams like
to kind of spread it out, so this weather is
making it interesting. RAYJ takes a low snap, goes up ahead,
and he did get the Matthews hontafter first down up
ahead to the twenty four yard line. Very nice call
by Harding's offensive staff there, keeping everything spread out running

(53:39):
the quarterback, there's no handoff chance of it fumbling. And
one of the things I was going to mention Eric
is Harding hasn't really utilized Parker Davis. It's kind of
a tough night to be able to utilize him. He
really played a great game in the first game of
season against Mount vern and so I look for Harting
to try to find a way to utilize him. Well,

(54:00):
we've reached the end of the first period. Score is
zero zero. Harding and River Valley are tide will take
a break. When we come back, we'll have the second period.

The Matthews Honda Akurra High School Game of the Week.

Speaker 1 (55:20):
Back here at River Valley High School started the second period.
Harding first and ten, tried to run a little swing
past the left side. Ball just got away from ray
J Scott Harblet and it was incomplete brings up second down.

Speaker 3 (55:33):
Yeah, it was like almost a throwback. He didn't really
even look and cod Hill kind of slipped out of
his hands. Ball was high even for him, but couldn't
hold on. It would have been a pick six definitely.

Speaker 1 (55:44):
So now back at quarterback number seventeen, Maddix simmers, he's
a five to ten sophomore. He takes the ball up
ahead and past the twenty five, maybe gets a yard
on that one. It's third down.

Speaker 3 (56:01):
Yeah, something went on there, and I think he's going
back out and I think ray J's coming back in. Yeah, yeah,
he's coming back in. Something went on, maybe equipment situation there.

Speaker 1 (56:15):
Ran the ball. It's a third and third and about nine.
It's just not a.

Speaker 3 (56:18):
Situation where Harding wants to be in with a different
quarterback like this.

Speaker 1 (56:23):
So third down and eight officially at the Harding twenty
six yard line. Ray J. Scott Harbole back at quarterback again,
five wide. Marbolt gets the ball, he runs to his left,
cuts it up and just slides down. Can't get any
footing out here, and he had a little bit of
a cutback lane, but it's almost impossible to do.

Speaker 3 (56:48):
Looks like we had a little extracurricular activity there. Looks
like Green was involved for River Valley.

Speaker 1 (56:55):
Personal foul on River Valley, so that's a huge penalty.

Speaker 3 (57:01):
Yeah, that would have been a fourth down play for
Harding and now they're going to march it off and
should be an automatic first down.

Speaker 1 (57:09):
And I see coach Waddle down there talking to his player.
Why would you do that? And he pointed to his head.
You know, you got to use your head and you do.
This is an emotional game. You've already got the weather
against you. You don't need anything else that can cause
you any problem.

Speaker 3 (57:27):
Well, on a dry field, maybe River Valley might be
up two touchdowns at this point. And this is when
the frustration sets in when they're not able to score
as quickly as they're used to. But they've got to
keep their composure and keep their boys here under pressure
and continue to play their game, and you know they
can make things happen if they.

Speaker 1 (57:47):
If they stick to it. Matthew Hondiaker first down, first
and ten at the Harding forty one yard line. Harbolt
throws it out complete across the forty up to the
forty five to the fifty and there's a penal flag.

Speaker 3 (58:20):
Yeah real, yeah, we're definitely nice catch.

Speaker 1 (58:28):
So still it's a penalty flag on that one, a hold,
so that goes back now to the thirty three yard line, so.

Speaker 3 (58:42):
They get a little bit back after the personal foul.
So River Valley really has him pinned back here on
about the thirty three yard line, which is a pretty
good situation. Harding is being very patient trying to keep
the clock moving, but obviously the clock stops on that penalty.

(59:04):
Ten thirty two to go. If you're just tuning in,
there's no score here at River Valley.

Speaker 1 (59:09):
First down in eighteen and there's an off side by
River Valley trying to time out a blitz, so that's
going to bring that ten yards back.

Speaker 3 (59:23):
This looks like it's on Harding again. Oh is it
on Harding?

Speaker 1 (59:28):
I thought I saw that River Valley came across quick,
but it must have been a legal procedure. So that
kills Harding right now.

Speaker 3 (59:38):
Yeah, when you're playing against the team that obviously on
paper has the stats and the record and everything else,
and they're playing at home, you have to play penalty
free and mistake free and try to pick up a
big break here, especially when you're having to move guys
around in your offensive lineup.

Speaker 1 (01:00:01):
So first down and twenty eight for the Prexies back
at their or it says first in fifty seven. Excuse
me at the twenty eight, So running straight ahead, maybe
a gain of one that will bring up second down.

Speaker 3 (01:00:21):
And that was Waddle on the tackle. Really nice linebacker.
Coach's son seventy five tackles coming into this game, and
he's all over the place, just a real you know,
the guys can look at him as the defensive leader inside.
He's got a lot of experience and a lot of
knowledge back there. So he's on a lot of plays.

Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
Nine thirty seven until halftime. No score here at River Valley.
There we go second and twenty nine cause I thought
fifty seven was a little bit too long. Another penalty
flag and that ball is knocked away on the pass
a little roll out, but I think again it's a

(01:01:03):
legal procedure hereby Harding. Looks like River Valley's going to
decline it.

Speaker 3 (01:01:09):
Yeah, that was Waterwall again knocking the ball out on
the outside here right in the scene. And right now,
Harding is really having a hard time getting set and
getting some plays off. And I think one of the
things that their strategy would be to try to shorten
this game as much as possible Eric, and right now
they're not able to do that.

Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
With all these penalties. If you can hear the wind,
we have a microphone set up to get the crowd
noise and the game noise, and that wind is whipping
right now. Even if it wasn't raining, this win would
be a big problem. Right even with Harding having to
win at their back, it doesn't really matter. They're not
going to be a passing team tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
They're just trying to get something going offensively and get
a big break.

Speaker 1 (01:01:51):
Third and twenty nine for the Prexies looks like a
blitz coming from the outside. Now they back out and
ray J takes it up the middle and a nice
game of about ten yards, way short of a first down,
but at least gives them a little bit better position
to be able to pin River Valley back on the punt.

Speaker 3 (01:02:08):
Yeah, especially with the punt with the win that they're
back and the punt's gonna be done by Jackson Shipley.
Real fine punter and kicker. He's got twelve punts, he's
got the forty three yard average this year. Eric, And
this is exactly what Harding needs to kick the ball
and deep into River Valley territory. So Shipley back at

(01:02:31):
his own twenty five to punt Snyder at about his
own twenty seven. That kick, good kick comes down, the.

Speaker 1 (01:02:39):
Sire bounces off of him, and I don't even know
what There is a harding player right there.

Speaker 3 (01:02:46):
You can't run with it anyway, so you might as
well jump on it. So River Valley jumped on it.

Speaker 1 (01:02:51):
I mean a huge, huge bullet dodge there. But I
won't say the number of the player, but a harding
player was right there. All you had to do was
just jump on it.

Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
Yeah, slide and jump, man. I'll tell you what you
can't run in a enuff hunt. Yeah, in that case,
he just hit off of his shoulder pat or helmet,
and wow, big break for River Valley getting that back.

Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
So River Valley first and ten from their own twenty
no backs in the backfield. Ebert alone, he looks to
the sideline, gets the call and Harding defensive front moves
their left. Now Ebert takes off and able to pick

(01:03:35):
up about four yards. Nice carry on first down. It
looks like number four before Harding was in there. That
was just like a good shy good and he was.

Speaker 3 (01:03:45):
In there, and there was another young man. Kind of
hard to see. We'll try to get some of these
defensive numbers here. They are a lot easier to see
with the white except for the rain flying in on
glass here.

Speaker 1 (01:04:01):
Second down conditions for the offense. Second down and six,
River Valley was quick up to the line of scrimmage.
Now back to pass and a blitz and that was
incomplete I believe, or was yeah? Incomplete?

Speaker 3 (01:04:15):
Third down Yeah, intended for axe line, but Gooden was
right there again making another nice defensive play. So third
and six last week, third and ten against Pleasant that
was nothing for them tonight. It's a little bit dicey
because of the field conditions, and.

Speaker 1 (01:04:35):
Like coach Waddles said, we feel like on offense we
have an advantage the defense doesn't know where we're going
in bad weather. He feels like that's an advantage. So
we'll see if it can work out for him. Right here,
third and six and again good pressure. It is complete,
close to a first down, just a little short.

Speaker 3 (01:04:53):
Big decision by coach Wattle here. It's gonna be fourth
and probably less than a yard. So we'll see if
coach Wattle will go ahead and line up and go.
Looks like we're gonna try and right up to it,
and they just go ahead and try to draw him offside.

Speaker 1 (01:05:09):
And it's close. He may have gotten it. See where
this this referee. It looks like he's across the line,
and I can see the harding coaches aren't not happy
with that spot. No replay for a spot in high.

Speaker 3 (01:05:29):
Seriously, you set the ball back behind the line and
I thought I thought that yeah they ran in.

Speaker 1 (01:05:36):
Yeah, Well you know what do we know? First down
and ten, that's Matthews hont actor a first down or
the Vikings Wattle back in that backfield. I'm still puzzled
by that set yep and a false start by River
Valley and they're trying. It's pretty apparent that River Valley

(01:06:01):
on offense trying to draw Harding off sides. Harding has
done a really good job tonight of not jumping across.

Speaker 3 (01:06:07):
Yeah, that's what I thought they were going to try
to do. And they were able to pick up the
first down, and then they gave Harting five yards right
off the bat So River Valley with a first and
fifteen six forty eight to go and there's no score yet.

Speaker 1 (01:06:20):
Back to pass. He's under a lot of pressure, but
has a man complete up ahead to the forty and
that's Snyder close to a first down. In fact, I
think it is a Matthew Sondagra first down for the Vikings.

Speaker 3 (01:06:33):
Real nice pitch and catch there by Ebert and number
twenty there.

Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
That's Jaydon Griffith.

Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
Real nice catch there that he likes to spread it
out to different guys and all the receivers. Coach said
they got a bunch of them.

Speaker 1 (01:06:49):
Ebert back to pass. Now it gets lobbed up there.
That's I mean, that's a completion. But man, Luke axe
Line got a nice push off there. Yeah. Yeah, I'm
I'm not gonna referee from up here. No, I mean,
I realize we're in the River Valley press box. I'm
just calling him now I see him, you know. So

(01:07:10):
that's a first and ten Matthews Hondakra first down four
River Valley and right up to the Lion scrimmage at
the twenty seven yard line of harding back to pass
is Ebert and he completes it up ahead to the
twenty actually about the twenty two Eli Snyder with the completion.

(01:07:30):
That's a game of about six.

Speaker 3 (01:07:32):
Yeah, real nice possession catch and throw, and Snyder's coming
up big for him here and picking up some nice
yardage and River Valley's on the move.

Speaker 1 (01:07:41):
You just have a feeling right now.

Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
They've got know that they have a sense of urgency
to get one in here before the end of the half.

Speaker 1 (01:07:47):
Five thirty eight left until halftime, no score and taking
down on the backfield. That was a design run, but
the snap was not good. So that's a loss of
about three four River Valley. Scott right there playing defensive line.
He's only about one hundred ninety pounds, but boy, he's
very active inside. If I can remember, he was the

(01:08:08):
the player of the game last year against River Valley.
So third down and six Vikings on on the prowl
right now, just outside the red zone, defensive line shifts
back to pass and complete and tackled. And I think

(01:08:31):
that's another Matthew Sondakra first down.

Speaker 3 (01:08:34):
Yeah, pressure there by Long and Adams. But one of
the things that Harding has got to do, because he
gets the ball off quickly if he knows he has pressure,
they've got to get their hands up and get him
knockdown pass of some sort of get one tipped.

Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
First and ten at the twenty three Ebert back to pass,
he just lobs it up and incomplete. One thing that
they're doing is the defensive back just are not turning
around and looking at where the ball's at and if
they would just glance over because the ball's just getting
lobbed up there right now.

Speaker 3 (01:09:09):
Right Well, they had great pressure by Keaton Ward and
Adams that time. Once again Adams coming from the outside
the defensive end position.

Speaker 1 (01:09:18):
Second and ten Ebert back to pass. He throws it
up again, bad pass and again underthrown. And I mean
the defensive backs are making it pretty easy right now. Well.

Speaker 3 (01:09:31):
One of the things they have to do is read
the eyes of the offensive receiver, and they're when the
receiver's eyes get really big, that's when they have to
turn and play for the football and right now they're
not doing that. So in the past they've gone underneath
the Snyder Right here, he runs about ten yards and
gets open. If Harding's paid attention, they might be looking

(01:09:51):
at him. He goes up to the top of the formation,
four wide up there. Ebert back to Pas throws it
up again and that one is caught and that's in bounds.
Nice catch there, Luke axe Line and that's Matthews Hondaker
first down, first and goal.

Speaker 1 (01:10:12):
Yeah, real nice pitch and catch there by axe Line.

Speaker 3 (01:10:14):
And Hebert right there on the outside picking up the
first thing. You can feel the momentum right here at
River Valley, with a sense of urgency to get one
in here. They're knocking on the door.

Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
Ball is on the seven. Actually it looks like it's
about on the five. So first in goal. Ebert runs
to the left and he slides down. But they call
it dead and that's a false start on River Valley.
That's a big penalty. It's a first and goal. But

(01:10:47):
now fifteen to go, you know they're gonna just gonna
have to go back to their passing game.

Speaker 3 (01:10:52):
But I really like to call there on first down,
keeping the ball in Ebert's hands. You know, you get
the team, Hardy is going to be spread out because
they have to respect every receiver and they if they're
in man and man coverage, those guys just run them
off and Ebert can pretty much follow their receivers into
the end zone.

Speaker 1 (01:11:11):
So it's actually first and goal at the ten. Ebert
looking back to pass, throws it into the end zone
and that's caught, and I think as a touchdown it.

Speaker 3 (01:11:22):
Is wow, nice pitch, nice catch right there, and River
Valley breaks the ice here.

Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
And that was Eli Snyder with the catch and actually
really good defense thereby Harding. But Eli Snyder with the
first score of the night makes it six to nothing
River Valley.

Speaker 3 (01:11:43):
Well, River Valley was very patient there on that particular drive.
They had a couple penalties, they didn't panic, they just
kept it moving. And when you can keep the defense
on the field for the other team, I'll tell you what,
you have a great chance of being successful.

Speaker 1 (01:11:58):
In that time, they were snap back kicks up and
that is good good. So with four seventeen left in
the second period, River Valley takes the lead seven to nothing.
Overhearding will take a break. You're listening to high school
football on fourteen ninety no WMRN, Hello and welcome.

Speaker 12 (01:12:17):
To Matthews Honda and Matthew's Accura side by side in Marion.
Are you hunting for a particular good out? No, mite,
You've got so many choices. Well, you're sure right about choices.
New twenty five models are here. Plus you can say
big with model year end deals on new twenty fours.

Speaker 32 (01:12:31):
What you said it right there, savings and deals.

Speaker 31 (01:12:34):
What do you going on these new twenty fours.

Speaker 12 (01:12:36):
New civics, accords, passports, odyssees, ridgelines, prologs, rdx's and t lx's,
you name it.

Speaker 31 (01:12:42):
You're making hunting too easy here, Matthews Hold and Matthew's Akira.

Speaker 32 (01:12:45):

Speaker 12 (01:12:48):
Well we make it easy. You say trades, We give

Speaker 32 (01:12:57):

Speaker 5 (01:13:00):
We can handle that.

Speaker 39 (01:13:02):
Matthew's Horn and Matthew's Accurate side by side and Marion, Matthews, Honda,
Acura dot Com Matthew's hold to Acura dot Com.

Speaker 30 (01:13:09):
That's Matthews with one T so.

Speaker 12 (01:13:12):
Much more in one locations the Matthews Honda Acura High
School Game of the Week.

Speaker 1 (01:13:22):
Into the wig River Valley kicking off, Hudson Pollock kicks
it out of the end zone and so Harding will
take over first and ten down at their own twenty
yard line with the leads seven to nothing over River
Valley and Scott, you're down there near the sideline. What's
the mood like down there for River Valley? Oh?

Speaker 28 (01:13:43):
River Valley feels pretty confident and you guys, you know,
play the game fright so far, but that fourth and short. Sometimes, man,
when the conditions are adverse, you just go win the
game and you want to send a message in Briver
Valley took that chance and they really put their foot
down and they were rewarded with that touchdown.

Speaker 1 (01:13:59):
I'm grave, Yeah, that was a big play on that
last drive, and now Harding has to answer first and ten.
Harbolt takes the off, runs to his left up across
the twenty to the twenty five thirty and he does
get up to the thirty five yard line. That's Matthews
Hondaker a first down for the Frexison.

Speaker 3 (01:14:18):
Well, one of the things that Harding's got to do,
even if they don't score on this drive, is they
can't give the ball back to River Valley. They're four
to h six to go and the clock's running. They're
down seven to nothing right before the half. They've got
to get it out of there, get and keep getting
first downs. And like I said, even if they don't score,
they can't give the ball back to River Valley because
they can go down and score pretty much anytime they want. Now,

(01:14:42):
I think they've got a lot of confidence with their
passing game.

Speaker 1 (01:14:45):
Matthews Hondaker a first down at the thirty five yard
line for Harding. Harding will get the ball first in
the second half, So you're right, coach, they want to
hold on to it. And Harbolt was holding on to
the ball. I think he was trying to look to pass,
but he lost the handle. That's going to be a
loss of one.

Speaker 3 (01:15:03):
Yeah, he kind of looked up just as he took
his first step and he was very fortunate to get
back on the football clock running with three twenty to go,
and they would like no more than just to get
in the halftime only down seven.

Speaker 1 (01:15:18):
Well, and this is what you run into. It's tough
enough for a quarterback that plays every week when you
have somebody that hasn't played there all season, Wet ball
and bad conditions can be really rough.

Speaker 3 (01:15:30):
Well, he's looked pretty good running the football, and I
think that's one of the advantages that he has. And
so it looks like they're going to continue to pass,
but really the timing and the rhythm on his passes
isn't there. He's really a good athlete. Keeping the ball
in his hands is really good thing. But now they're
forced with a definite tough situation here with a third

(01:15:52):
and eleven so on that play a little out pattern
incomplete to Dylan Holloway. So it does bring up third
and eleven at the Harding thirty four yard line, and
that stops the clock at two fifty two. So River
Valley definitely thinking about being able to get the stop
here so that they can get the ball back and

(01:16:12):
score before half.

Speaker 1 (01:16:13):
Harbolt steps up. Now he takes off. It's a gain
of about four but clearly not enough for a first
down punting situation for the Prexies. Yeah, I think one
of the things that they've got to try to.

Speaker 3 (01:16:25):
Do is try to just think four yards every play.
You get four yards, you got twelve, you get a
first down. And I know they're down seven, but they
can't go away from their game plan. They've got to
try to control the game on offense by not giving
the ball back to River Valley. And so, like I said,
even if they didn't score on this particular drive, they've

(01:16:46):
got to try to take as much time off the
clock not to give River Valley good field position. Here
with just going to be around two minutes to go
before the half.

Speaker 1 (01:16:54):
Snyder back at his own twenty five kick comes out.
It's going to the right and actually goes out of
bounds at about the thirty one yard line. That's where
River Valley takes over first and ten on that last
run by Harble. I like what he did to wait
for the blocks to set up and try to get something.

(01:17:14):
And so, going back to what you're saying, that would
be how you get that four yards every time.

Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
That would be like a first down play. So if
they pick up four yards on first down, now they've
got second and six, they can still maybe do something
a little different. I still think they need to get
Parker Davis involved. They've got him clear out on the outside.
It's gonna be very difficult to give him the football,
but he is a great receiver. But you've got to
get him the ball and his jet sweep or something.

Speaker 1 (01:17:40):
Hand off to Waddle and he takes off up to
the thirty nice run, kind of a barreling run. There
by Waddle brings up a second down.

Speaker 3 (01:17:50):
Say that was a nice play. They're just trying to
maybe loul the defense to sleep by just running the
football with one fifty one to go in the clock.
Running But I think River Valley has showing some patience
here and they don't want to make a mistake here
right before the half. Being up seven to nothing, they
can regroup and go from there. So one thirty six

(01:18:13):
left until halftime and River Valley just taking their time
play clock under ten. Now it's to five and a
hand off to Waddle to the right side and he
breaks through up across the thirty five to the thirty
six yard line.

Speaker 1 (01:18:31):
That's exactly what they're doing.

Speaker 3 (01:18:32):
Coach Watta was elected to be happy with seven, not
get greedy. Not give the ball back to Harding. They're
gonna get it in the second half. No, No, hard
Harding I believe gets in the seconds at first ship.
But there he's in smart right here with one oh
one to go, the clock's running. He's gonna try to
shorten this half and be happy with a seven to
nothing lead. Under a minute left in the first half.

(01:18:54):
River Valley on top, seven to nothing, and again they're
just taking their time, like you said, coach, not wanting
to make a mistake. Ever, gets a snap, hands off
to Waddle. He goes up the middle and carries four
Matthews Hondaker first down. Yeah, number twenty six Xavian ashburn

(01:19:19):
In on the tackle for Harding and a host of others.
Twenty four Colton Sibril has been on some tackles today.
You know Adams number thirty three defensive end. I think
they've got him an inside linebacker right now. The Keller
brothers very active on defense, and we really like watching

(01:19:42):
those guys play.

Speaker 1 (01:19:43):
Thirteen seconds left until halftime and not much of a
difference between the play clock and the game clock. Hand off.
Now a penalty at false start by River Valley, so
that stops the clock with three point seven seconds left.
It looked like that was going to be a fake
to the full back or the up back and then

(01:20:05):
Ebert taking it around the outside. Yeah, they were just
keeping the ball in Ebert's hands, which was very smart
to do. And who knows, maybe Ebert comes around here
and that defensive back falls down and he goes down
and scores a sixty yard touchdown. So but the safe
play was Ebert keeping the ball in his hands. And

(01:20:25):
now River Valley is happy to go into the locker
room up seven to nothing. All right, So not much
action altogether with this weather, but a couple of big plays.
River Valley able to take advantage of some big pass
plays and take the seven tonthing lead on a ten
yard touchdown reception by Eli Snyder. So we'll get go

(01:20:46):
ahead and take a break. When we come back, we'll
go over some of the first half highlights, not many
of them because it's been slow going, and we'll also
check some of the scores in the area. But again
here at River Valley, River Valley on top seven to nothing. Overhearding.

Speaker 3 (01:27:11):
I thought that the.

Speaker 1 (01:27:14):
Spot but again halftime here at River Valley the Matthew
Sontaktra High School Game of the Week, River Valley on
top seven to nothing over Marion Hardy and Eric Mosley
alongside coach John Cuzio. And the weather is the big
story tonight, something about coming out to River Valley. We've

(01:27:34):
two years in a row now. Last year it was
at the end of the season. We had had perfect
weather pretty much every week of the season last year
until the last week this time, right in the middle
of the season where we're in with another downpour.

Speaker 3 (01:27:47):
Well, I think in two weeks we're going to be
here again with them and Highland and we usually sit
up on the rooftop. They would allow anybody up there today,
which I'm very glad, and they've been very gracious about
letting us sit down here in the press box and
a very comfortable situation for us, and so we're real

(01:28:08):
happy about that. Of course, our MVP tonight is Scott
Cameron gets down on the field. He's up here right
now getting warm. He's all dressed and really suited up.

Speaker 1 (01:28:18):
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 3 (01:28:19):
He's really gutting it out for us tonight down there
on the field. But Before we go on and talk
about first half, I like to give a shout out
to Marcia and Tom Dutt, their pickleball players with my wife,
and they listen religiously every week to us.

Speaker 1 (01:28:34):
So there's two more people deliver. Well, yeah, you say us,
they listen to you. I don't know that they care
what I say, but they're listening to you, so we
appreciate you listening though. That's really good. That's for sure.
They are River Valley fans.

Speaker 3 (01:28:48):
So hopefully we're explaining things correctly tonight and doing best
we can.

Speaker 1 (01:28:53):
Well, I make no promises that I'll explain anything correctly,
but I'll do my best right now. River Valley up
seven to nothing. Normally we'd go through all the highlights,
but really there's only been one big highlight, or at
least the scoring drives. But there was a couple of
big plays on that drive, a ten yard touchdown reception
by Eli Snyder. The pat was good. That was four

(01:29:18):
seventeen left in the second period in River Valley up
seven to nothing overhearding, but River Valley was able to
complete some big passes. In the first quarter. Eli Snyder
broke free on a slant and took it about forty
yards for a huge first down for River Valley. Also,

(01:29:38):
Axe Line Luca Axeline has had a couple big catches
down the sideline. So even though the weather has you know,
wreaked havoc on both teams, River Valley has stuck true
to what they can do.

Speaker 3 (01:29:50):
Yeah, one of the things that I really enjoy watching
is these receivers in these kind of conditions catching the
ball in their hands and not letting the ball come
into their body, and they really a nice job of that.
Ebert puts it on the money. Sometimes the receivers have
to adjust a little bit, but the defensive backs from.

Speaker 1 (01:30:08):
Harding have really got to react better and look.

Speaker 3 (01:30:11):
At the eyes of the offensive receivers and then they
can make plays. But right now, and the other thing
I want to mention is coach Waddle had the ball
on about the thirty yard line, handed the ball off
to his son a couple of plays, and then Ebert
was just gonna they were taking their time letting the
clock run down before the half because he knew that

(01:30:34):
if they tried they got greedy, that they would have
got greedy and maybe try to throw and try to
get a quick score. They had not real great field
position with not a lot of time before the half,
they let the they let the clock run down and
run out, and they're tickled to death go in the
halftime up seven to nothing instead of seven to seven.

Speaker 1 (01:30:52):
Yeah, and it's for Harding. They have done some good
things on offense with with the changes at quarter and everything.
That can be tough. But ray J Scott Harbolt has
had some good runs. They haven't been able to do
much outside of him in the run game, but he's
completed a couple passes. It's just trying to find what's

(01:31:13):
going to work in this weather. But I want to
even though they gave up a touchdown, want to give
a shout out to the defense that they've put a
lot of pressure on Ebert and good job by Ebert
to get the ball off because he's gotten hit quite
a bit tonight. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:31:27):
I mean he's gonna get hit, you know, as much
as they throw the football. But one of the things
that Harding's got to do is they've got to get
their hands up quicker because he will get it off
and find the open man.

Speaker 1 (01:31:38):
Like you said, the defense.

Speaker 3 (01:31:40):
When they tried did try to run the ball early
in the game, they went to a tight end formation,
which I haven't seen out of them in a few years,
and they try to bring people pulling from the left
side and couldn't make the handoff or something happen and
that play blew up and we haven't seen that again.
So he may have canned that for the night. But

(01:32:01):
you know, they I really I have seen Ebert under
the center tonight in a certain situations when they had
the third and what two down here and they were
knocking on the door early in the second quarter and
and it didn't make it, and then they try to run.
They tried to throw a pass and it was incomplete.

(01:32:24):
So coach Waddle has really done some thought here. He
does have plan B when it comes to this kind
of situation, and right now I think he knows they're
in control as long as they keep playing their game.

Speaker 1 (01:32:36):
Yeah, it's been really well coached game both sides, and
as as nasty and as ugly as it is on
the field, I've been really happy with how the game's
when coached, been played everything. So it's still plenty of
game left and everybody should still stay here and stay
tuned in. I want to go through some of the

(01:32:58):
scores in the area before we end up going to
break right now. River Valley or excuse me, Carrie is
up fourteen to nothing over Winford, Senecas is up fourteen
to seven over Upper Sandusky, Pleasant and Clear Fork tied
at three at the half. Northmore six, Shawnee nothing, colonl

(01:33:19):
Crawford twenty one, b Cyrus six, Shelby up twenty to
six over Highland in the second quarter, Mohawk up big
over Buckeye Central thirty Ford to nothing, Ontario twenty eight,
Galleon nothing, Cardington and Centerberger tied at zero's East Knox thirteen,
Mount Gilliad zero, Northmore twelve, Fredericktown nothing at the half,

(01:33:43):
and Worthington Christian fourteen Elgin nothing in the second quarter.
Harden Northern over Ridgedale in the second quarter thirty five
to nothing. We'll go ahead and take a break here
and get everybody set up for the third period again
here at River Rally for fo River Valley ups seven

Speaker 1 (01:36:18):
Back here at River Valley High School, Matthew sondiaker a
high School Game of the Week Eric Mosley alongside coach
John Couzio Scott Cameron getting dry up here in the
press box during halftime and enjoying some chicken and noodles. Yeah,

(01:36:38):
we all enjoyed the chicken and nudle.

Speaker 3 (01:36:40):
Like to give a shout out to the River Valley boosters.
I'll tell you what they really came through tonight. It's

allowing us to be in the press box tonight instead
up on the roof. We're right on the fifty yard
line and the great view and hopefully you're.

Speaker 1 (01:37:01):
Enjoying the broadcast. Yeah, we had some technical difficulties obviously
early in the game, and that's what happens when you're
dealing with weather. We found that out over the years.
You think that your your internet access is good and
then the weather will knock it out. So we think
we have everything under control now. But you know, this

(01:37:22):
is a very interesting game anytime you have the weather involved.
And we've seen about as many different types of weather
and games in football over the years. So you know,
we've seen snow, we've seen win, we've seen you know,
just unbearable heat, but rain is always the one that
seems to be the great equalizer. Like we like to say, well,

(01:37:47):
the footing seems to be okay.

Speaker 3 (01:37:49):
We did see a couple guys where their feet went
out from under them, but for the most part, the
receivers for River Valley seem to be able to make
their cuts and make the catches, and so it hasn't
really affected him there in.

Speaker 1 (01:38:02):
The first half. I really.

Speaker 3 (01:38:05):
Like the fact that the River Valley they got their
touchdown right before the half with the four minutes or
so to.

Speaker 1 (01:38:12):
Go, and held Harding.

Speaker 3 (01:38:13):
But they were you know, if they would have had
a good run back and maybe had the ball more
on the fifty yard line with two minutes to go,
they would have probably tried to launch it out and
have confidence in their defense to stop Harding if they
weren't unsuccessful.

Speaker 1 (01:38:27):
Or maybe had a turnover.

Speaker 3 (01:38:28):
But they were very smart having the ball on their own,
thirty wins in their face and knowing that their defense
is keeping Harding in check. Harding's just Harding's playing for
that big turnover. Yeah, and they had a couple opportunities.

Speaker 1 (01:38:44):
How about the punt, I mean, I imagine that the coaches,
you know, just explained it because that was obviously I
don't I think he for some reason thought that he
couldn't touch it. That's the only thing I can think,
because it was right there, and they probably you know,
talked with the young gentlemen and and just explain to him,
you go, hey, you're right there, go ahead and just

(01:39:06):
jump on it.

Speaker 3 (01:39:06):
Yeah, if you're gonna be the first one down on
the punt coverage. Then you've got to know if the
ball hits the offensive man's helmet, shoulder, fad hands, elbow, whatever,
you can jump on it and don't try to pick
it up because you can't advance the muff punt. So
I see a lot of guys try to pick it
up a lot of times on fumbles because they want

(01:39:29):
to think they can take it to the house from there,
and then.

Speaker 1 (01:39:31):
They don't end up getting it. Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:39:33):
So you know, that's what coaching is all about, special situations.
And in that situation right there, they missed an opportunity
to get the ball deep into River Valley's territory.

Speaker 1 (01:39:44):
And I think that we talked about it a little
bit beginning a halftime. Both these teams are being coached
very well tonight, and I think in watching what River
Valley's done tonight, we saw them in a bad weather
game last year and you can you can see the
little juge that they've made to try to make it

(01:40:04):
a little bit better for them. And like you said,
the bunch formation on offense not something that's you run
see River Valley do very much. We may not see
it the rest of the season unless there's another bad
weather game. But they came prepared with that and still
were able to get back into their spread and do
what they wanted to do with it.

Speaker 3 (01:40:22):
Well, I'd like to talk just the second here about
River Valley's defensive front line. You've got number six Bradley,
and you've got JJ Walton fifty one, and you've got
Ryan Green, and these guys, i'll tell you what, have
really done a great job. You've got Tyson Wada in
the back there. Jackson caught ill out at the outside corner,

(01:40:47):
really able to cover people. Noah Warwick, we'reck linebacker, Kanaggie
bab All. These guys just have done a really good
job of improving from the first time that we've seen him.
And we'll be back over here in two weeks, I
believe when they play they host Highlands, so I'm sure

(01:41:09):
they're going to continue to improve. But right now they've
got to take care of business and they can't. They've
got to come out of the locker room like they're
tied up or behind seven. Yeah, he can't in this
situation here, with the weather the way it is, anything
can happen.

Speaker 1 (01:41:25):
The ball can bounce a weird way. It can drop
through somebody's grasp real easily, so you've got to be prepared.
But on the flip side, with Harding, they've been able
to stay with a team that is still pretty explosive,
and it's been the mantra with Hardy in this season
other than last week, but even then they were within
a one score game as bad as they had played.

(01:41:47):
According to coach Williamson, this is a team that is
not intimidated by anything, and they play close with everybody
they play. They just haven't been able to bust it through,
and they're still hoping that tonight's well.

Speaker 3 (01:42:00):
I think that obviously River Valley's got to get that
second score, and then once they do, they can lay
their ears back and.

Speaker 1 (01:42:09):
They can go at it because.

Speaker 3 (01:42:12):
You know, right now Harding is struggling to get a
consistent drive together. They're still playing trying to play field
position football and get a big break and capitalize on
that break. But as long as it's seven nothing, they
can do that.

Speaker 1 (01:42:23):
But I think once.

Speaker 3 (01:42:24):
They go down, if they would go down fourteen to nothing,
it's going to be very difficult for them to catch up.

Speaker 1 (01:42:32):
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see what Harding does with
the offense because they've they've found a couple of run
plays that can work, but the passing game that they
would normally have with Connor Pennington at quarterback, they just
haven't been able to do that tonight. So that has
been the thing that more than anything, I think has
given River Valley the upper hand because it's it's already

(01:42:53):
put Harding's offense at a disadvantage. The other thing I
want to come back to is we talked about the
River Valley defense, were really shouting out to that front line.
We've seen this season. This defense has really come into
its own and is very aggressive, travels to the ball
really well, hard hitting, and that's not something that has

(01:43:14):
always been the case in the past. They've always had
some good linebackers, but it's a deep group, especially in
the secondary, and they hit, they hit hard.

Speaker 3 (01:43:23):
Yeah, well, they know what type of game it is
when you're gonna go against Tarding because they're gonna be
running the football. So those guys on the front, front
line and linebackers have definitely got to come to play.
And but if you're harding those guys in the back,
they've got to be They've got to be loosened up
and be ready to cover some people in the second half,

(01:43:43):
and I think River Valley is gonna make some adjustments.

Speaker 1 (01:43:46):
They know what they.

Speaker 3 (01:43:47):
Can do now, and I look for them to come
out in the second half. Harding's gotta you know, they
can't play not to win. They've got to They've got
to play to win now and try to hit and
they make River Valley cough up the ball and get
it back.

Speaker 1 (01:44:02):
So the flock going down at halftime. We're ready to
start the third period. Harding will be receiving here in
the second half or third quarter. Looks like back to
receive is Jerry Williams and Cameron Faggs is back there

(01:44:26):
as well. You talked about Parker Davis getting involved. One
of the things I wonder if they would try to
do is something that worked in that first week, that
little shovel pass on the suite. But it's still kind
of dicey out there when it's wet. That kickoff will
come down and through the hands I believe that was

(01:44:48):
of Cameron fags and that's a touch back. So Harding
will start first and ten at the twenty yard line.

Speaker 3 (01:44:55):
Well, this is a big series for Harding right here,
because once again they have the wind at their face
and you know it shouldn't affect their running game any
but they definitely don't want to turnover on downs this
deep into their territory. And I really look for maybe

(01:45:16):
River Valley to try to make something happen in their
kicking game and maybe go for a block punt here
pretty soon this evening, First and ten at the Harding
twenty yard line, Harbor at quarterback, five wide, same formation
as all night, and up ahead to the twenty five

(01:45:39):
and down at about the twenty nine yard line is
Harble real nice first played by the offensive line for Harding,
and would like to know all exem again Kloa, Logan Ward, Crawford, Cellar,
and you know, the offensive line in a game like this,
they're the guys that could make things happen as long

(01:45:59):
as as the offense has the ball that the other
team can't score. So they've got to dedicate themselves to
make sure that and we talked about it. Pick up
four yards every carry, and you got a first down.

Speaker 1 (01:46:09):
Second down in one and Harbolt close to the first down.
I think they're going to give it to him. They
are so that's Matthew Honda actor first down four Harding.
It's like Wata was in there, number six, Bradley was
in there.

Speaker 3 (01:46:26):
I tell you I've really been watching him. We've seen
three times already. He's a very active player. We talked
about Ryan Green on the outside caught ill. I'll tell
you Lang doesn't get enough credit either because he's he's
always in a lot of stuff. Last week he filled
in as receiver and had three touchdowns. So they just

(01:46:47):
have a bunch of guys that are just spreading it
out all year.

Speaker 1 (01:46:50):
Harbolt running it again he has stopped. They might give
him forward progress at the Lions scrimmage.

Speaker 3 (01:46:58):
If not, it's a loss of wine. It looks like
a se number five was in there. That's where it
could believe. Yeah, and tell you what they just they
really stuffed Harding on that play. And they know this
is a big series defensively form because they can get
the ball in really good field position.

Speaker 1 (01:47:18):
Well in three straight runs, actually just about four or
five straight runs the same play. At some point the
defense is going to get pretty keen on what's happening.
Second down and eleven man in motion and it is
a shovel pass. Up ahead to the thirty one yard line,
back to the line of scrimmage. Was that Parker Davis?

(01:47:41):
It looked like thirteen Fleming Harris. Yeah, he tried a
little bit of a different play.

Speaker 3 (01:47:48):
And you noticing, Eric that the defensive line is right
there and then the linebackers are up in the secondary.
They're not even ten yards deep, so they are basically
airing Harding to try to throw it behind him, and
I don't really think they have that capability tonight. Nine
thirty five left in the third period, third down and

(01:48:09):
ten for Harding, down seven to nothing, two River Valley
back to pass, and that's incomplete, just in and out.
But it wasn't going to get much anyways, and that
will bring up fourth down.

Speaker 14 (01:48:22):
You know that.

Speaker 3 (01:48:23):
You try to get it back out there to Fleming
Harris Again, that kind of play isn't going to really
pick up a first down unless the defensive man falls
down and.

Speaker 1 (01:48:31):
He catches it clean.

Speaker 3 (01:48:33):
It has only been about a three yard game, so
now Harding's forced to punt nine twenty six to go.

Speaker 1 (01:48:38):
You're just tuning in.

Speaker 3 (01:48:40):
River Valley is playing a very conservative game right now.

Speaker 1 (01:48:44):
They've done what they needed to to be up seven
to nothing. Shipley back to punt at his own sixteen
yard line, gets that kickoff. Nice kick over the head
of Snyder and it rolls out of bounds at about
the twenty nine yard lines. So a very good kick
there by Shipley. Yeah, real nice kick by Shipley. He's

(01:49:04):
really a good weapon to have. And the young man
has really done a nice job. He's twelve for twelve
on extra points and two on field goals as long
as being of thirty yards, he's got twelve punts. Actually,
he's probably got about fourteen punts or fifteen punts counting
the ones tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:49:23):
With forty three yard average. So the young man has
very great potential. We go somewhere as well as Pollock
for River Valley.

Speaker 1 (01:49:30):
Vikings first and ten, handoff to Waddle and he's taken
down just about the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 3 (01:49:38):
I don't even think they gave him a yard brings
up second down, so they harding did a real nice
job there of stuffing him. Let's just see if River
Valley's going to try to open it up being deep
in their own territory on the twenty nine yard line,
or whether or not they're gonna play a little bit conservative.
I look for him to try to hit somebody down
the middle like they did Snyder in.

Speaker 1 (01:49:59):
The fut quarter. With the win at their back, this
would be the time to do it. Yeah, second down
and ten and hand off again to Waddle and that
time he may have gained a yard but stacked up
and nothing going there. I mean, it's early to tell,
but it would seem like coach Waddle is just saying, Okay,

(01:50:19):
we've got a seven to nothing lead. Our defense is
doing what we needed to do. No reason to give
Harding a chance with a turnover or anything like that.
I think he's just trying to low him to sleep
a little bit right now.

Speaker 3 (01:50:32):
Eric, He's got a third and nine, and I think
he's going to try to hit a big one behind
him here pretty soon catch him nap, and then that
would be the backbreaker for Hardington.

Speaker 1 (01:50:44):
Looks like he still has Wattle back there with him.
This could be that fake play action handleff Nope, back
to pass and that's they are going deep and actually,
oh man, a little double move there by laying and
guy the defensive back to stop but just out of
his reach.

Speaker 3 (01:51:04):
Yeah, that's what we used to call in Pittsburgh two
bloops in a blast right there. They ran two running
plays kind of long the sleep and trying to pick
up not only the first down, to go for the
downs and hit Lang who is a very good receiver
for River Valley and behind the defensive man.

Speaker 1 (01:51:21):
Boy, that's a lot of words for Pittsburgh to have
to say. Hunt is off by Pollock. Another good kick there,
and that's a great role. Boy. These kickers for both
teams tonight doing an excellent job down at the fifteen
yard line. Penns harding deep first and ten.

Speaker 3 (01:51:38):
I heard one of the guys up here in the
press box talking about Pittsburgh and they're talking about the
pirates and they used the bloop in the blast with
see if he knows who it is, Roberto Clemente and
Willie Stargill. He'd get up in the bottom of the
ninth they're down one and he'd hit the bloop and
then Willy Stargo come up and hit the blast. So

(01:52:00):
that's what River Valley did right here. They had two
bloops in a blast and right now they're still pinning
them back.

Speaker 1 (01:52:06):
Coach, I didn't know that you were so talented. Well,
you could use a baseball analogy in a football game.

Speaker 3 (01:52:11):
Well, he said Pittsburgh, so stuff comes back to him.
You know, when I talk about Willie starjur and Broto Clemente,
these young guys up here think I'm talking about Babe Ruth.

Speaker 1 (01:52:21):
First and ten, there goes horribled up across the twenty
five and that's a Matthew Sondaktor first down at the
twenty seven yard line. Yeah, Harding really caught River Valley
napping on their heels and picked up a nice first down.
I tell you what, they cannot wait. River Valley cannot
wait on Harding to lay down because I don't think
they're going to. They're gonna keep working and trying to

(01:52:42):
get something going here. Picking up a first down on
one carry. Well, the worst thing that you can do
as a player or coach is play not to lose.
And that's kind of I think what you're trying to say, coach,
you got to keep playing hard First and ten at
the Parting twenty seven yard line and harbolt again up

(01:53:04):
the middle and a pickup of about three and again,
right like you said, coach, just pick up three or
four on first second down.

Speaker 3 (01:53:12):
Yeah, keep the ball. They're in great position right here.
They're being very patient. Six point fifty five to go
in the third quarter, they're only down seven. The field
is really holding up well. Yeah, and just they're trying
to pick up what they can manageable. Second down and
we'll see what happens. A real, real nice big play

(01:53:35):
here for the Herting team right.

Speaker 1 (01:53:37):
Here, second down and seven at the Harding thirty yard line.
Man in motion is Norman now rolling to his right
and completes it up ahead Harbolt across the forty to
the forty three. And that was to Dylan Holloway.

Speaker 3 (01:53:56):
Looks like ax Line on the tackle there. You know,
he just did a nice play, a nice job getting
in behind the defense in that little boyd and real
nice touch pass by.

Speaker 1 (01:54:08):
Harbolt Matthew Sondaker. First down at the Harding forty three
yard line. They're close to midfield and ball goes through
Harbolt's hands. Now it's knocked out as he picked it up,
and that might be a turnover. Nope, they're saying that
Harding got it back. So almost disaster there for the Prexys. Yeah,

(01:54:31):
very fortunate to get it back. River Valley was right there.
It looks like number fifty two came in for River
Valley there. He might have been a part of that.

Speaker 3 (01:54:40):
That fumble there, and that would be Diego Sanchez five
seven two hundred at the bottom of all of that.
So they're a valley starting to sum in a little
bit here on the defensive line.

Speaker 1 (01:54:53):
Second down in thirteen for the Prexy's down seven to nothing,
six three left in the third period. Man in motion
is Norman. We'relling to his right as Harbolt. Now he
just takes off and gets back the yards lost and
even more is tackled at midfield. But I think.

Speaker 3 (01:55:13):
Real great effort, real great effort there by Harbault coming
around that side. And we in the Mount Vernon game
we noticed that he gets a little head of steam
coming there. He puts his shoulder down and he takes
people on.

Speaker 1 (01:55:28):
It's gonna be.

Speaker 3 (01:55:29):
Third and about three. Make it third and four, that's
what they made it. But I don't know it's quite four.

Speaker 1 (01:55:39):
We'll say a long three. Yeah, at the forty nine
yard line, just about to midfield. Very manageable third down
here for Harding, and now Harbolt steps up. He gets
across the fifty to the opposing forty nine. Now it
will be an interesting decision, and you have to kind

(01:56:01):
of think, coach, how many chances is Harding going to
get to get this far down? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:56:07):
I mean River Valley is very very patient. Let's see
whether or not they're gonna go for it here. Looks
like they are. It's less than five yards, so.

Speaker 1 (01:56:17):
Be a good time to try draw them off side.

Speaker 3 (01:56:19):
Trying to draw them off side. They've got fifteen seconds. Yeah,
it looks like Hardy was going to take a time out.

Speaker 1 (01:56:26):
They're gonna think this went over. Let's throw it down
to Scott. Scott, what do you got?

Speaker 28 (01:56:31):
Well, you know, I was talking to coach Williamson today actually,
and he said they had been practicing with a wet
ball all week. And he said, but you can't plan
for mud and all that stuff. He says, it's been
too dry.

Speaker 1 (01:56:43):
But he said, well, we've.

Speaker 28 (01:56:44):
Been practicing with a wet ball. Even though Raj has
had a little bit of time a couple of times
where he just tried to bring the ball in and
just slipped right out of his hands. But his athleticism
has been able to cover up some of those mistakes.
But you know, we talked a little bit earlier in
the first half out River Valley for that fourth and
short because they're putting their foot down saying we're gonna
go after this, and this is ours, this is Harding's moment,

(01:57:07):
So let's see if they're up to the task.

Speaker 1 (01:57:10):
Very good point, Scott, and I think it's the right
call right here, because you don't know how often the
way that the kickers are performing and pinning each other
deep for Harding, how often are you actually going to
get this far down the field?

Speaker 3 (01:57:24):
Yeah, I mean, like we said on paper, they don't
really you know, you would think they would have a
chance in this football game. But under the conditions they're
playing really well, and just keep the ball in Hardball's hand,
Harbolt's hands, and just try to pick up that first down.

Speaker 1 (01:57:43):
Fourth and two for Harding. Man in motion goes across. Now,
Harbolt up ahead, he gets ahead of Steam and he
gets close. I think he got it.

Speaker 3 (01:57:54):
Yeah, I'll tell you, at first he didn't get it,
and then if he would have got it's like in.

Speaker 1 (01:58:00):
The third effort there. Well, there's a little bit of
a tush push from his fineman. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:58:04):
I think where they're going to spot it here. This
guy is an offensive friendly spotter. He's he's the same
guy that spotted a really good spot for River Valley.

Speaker 1 (01:58:17):
In the first quarter, second second quarter, So Matthew hondaaker
a first down for the Prexies at the River Valley
forty seven yard line four twenty eight left in this
third period. Harding taking up big chunks of time. Coach
Williamson came to play tonight in here. He sure did.

(01:58:39):
Man in motion Harve goes to throw its slipped out
of his hands, and I think Harden got it back.

Speaker 3 (01:58:48):
And we'll see what have they're fighting over it down
in the middle of the field there, and they are
going to see offense gets the tie.

Speaker 1 (01:58:56):
Maybe it is Harding ball second down, and that's just.

Speaker 3 (01:59:04):
Yeah, he's not used to throwing a ball. He's not
used to throwing a ball. So they dodged another one
right there. I really like him keeping the ball on
the ground. I guess they were just trying to go.
I think he looked like he was going to try
to throw one down the sideline and catch River Valley
napping out well in that outside.

Speaker 1 (01:59:21):
And they've been bringing Fleming Harris in motion quite a
bit in front of Harble, and I feel like they're
either trying to set up something or just trying to
see what kind of coverage they're looking. I think it's
pretty obvious they're playing zone. So again man in motion,
this time is stensing and again the ball comes out.

(01:59:44):
It's getting a bit too wet, And again this is
the offense that Harding runs. They always run shotgun. We've
talked about it's such a risk when you're running shotgun
in bad weather, and then when you also have a
quarterback that hasn't played quarterback all year. It's a lot
to put on somebody.

Speaker 3 (02:00:01):
I think Harding would be a in real uh real
happy about maybe getting a punt off and pennon River
Valley deep from this three oh ninety go. If you're
just tuning in on the third quarter, Harding uh is
down seven to nothing. Vikings playing a really uh really
smart conservative game here in.

Speaker 1 (02:00:20):
The third quarter. Scott just texted up to me, the
linebackers for River Valley or our spine or gap gap
blitzes as Harbolt runs up the middle just across the
fifty yard line. So a drive that started out really
well for Harding, got a couple first downs, two fumbles,
end up slowing it down. He must have.

Speaker 3 (02:00:43):
Snuck in the locker room, and hey, he pays attention.
Listen to their h he must have been he pays attention.
Yeah there, So punting for Harding will be Shipley. Back
to receive at his own twenty will be Snyder. Shipley
gets a punt inside the twenty here, could really help

(02:01:03):
Hardy All it.

Speaker 1 (02:01:04):
Goes through his hands, he gets it off, nice caph.
Now it bounces all the way inside the fifteen to
the twelve.

Speaker 3 (02:01:15):
Always said punting game is a very exciting playing football,
and that is no exception. Shipley getting the ball off,
punting it and what That's just a great defensive.

Speaker 1 (02:01:25):
Play as far as I'm concerned.

Speaker 3 (02:01:26):
That helps your helps your defense to start the series
here for River Valley deeper in their own territory.

Speaker 1 (02:01:33):
Now for River Valley, do they take a chance here
backed up or do they continue with the run game?
From what it looks like, No, back in the backfield
with the Eberts so well, I don't know if there's
any rule that you have to win by fourteen. Yeah,
that's true. That is true. A win is a win

(02:01:54):
backed up in your own the shadow of your own
end zone might be a scary spot to start throw,
but that's what they're going to do. And Ebert throws
it up and a good defense there. Intended for Snyder
up ahead to about the thirty four yard line, but
the defense was right on him.

Speaker 3 (02:02:13):
Yeah, he's right on him. But I'll tell you what
he kept makes that play. That's a weld be a
heck of a catch in this kind of situation. Snyder
with really good hands there and he was just trying
to get it out of there. And he's not being
conservative there on that call.

Speaker 1 (02:02:27):
Looking down and ten at the River Valley twelve yard line,
five wide, no back in the backfield with Ebert, he's
back to pass, and that one is caught.

Speaker 3 (02:02:43):
Real nice Carter Park, real nice catch there. Park knew
that all he had to do was get He could
go down on his knees, but the main thing was
to catch the football, and he did.

Speaker 1 (02:02:52):
He brought it in nicely. Third down and four at
the River Valley eighteen, Ebert throws it across and that
is incomplete and intended for Tyler Manette and that brings
up fourth down.

Speaker 3 (02:03:07):
I good defensive back came up put a shot on him,
and this kind of a pass was really hurried there.
And River Valley forced to punt deep in her own territory.

Speaker 1 (02:03:18):
Yeah, but this is a chance for harding.

Speaker 3 (02:03:20):
They've got a really good weapon and that's Hudson Pollock,
and he's also got a forty yard average kicking with
the wind at his back, Pollock set up just in
front of his five yard line and gets a great
kick off that drives back all the way to the
thirty eight and Juju Glover gets across the fifty and

(02:03:44):
then gets leveled at the forty nine yard line of
River Valley. Really nice open field tackle. I think that
was Waddle Wudel really made it. Really big hit. He's
huffing and puffing, but now he's got to go back
on DP. That kids run a lot tonight and he's
in a lot of plays. Great defensive leadership by young man.

Speaker 1 (02:04:07):
So River Valley with a big hit there, but harding
right back where they were at on that previous drive
at the River Valley forty nine. That's where they're starting
one nineteen left in the third period, down seven to
nothing to River Valley, and they just broke the huddle
from their sideline, and these coaches working hard for both teams,

(02:04:30):
but Harding right there trying to keep their team motivated.
Man in motion. That's a shovel pass up ahead across
the forty nine and that was Fleming Harris gain of
about one second down. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:04:44):
One of the things about that it's a forward pass,
so if he drops it, it's incomplete, and he didn't
pick up very much. But they're trying to do some
things a little differently. You know, this game has become
very very interesting here in the second half. As time's
running down fifty five seconds to go, Harding's got the
ball on their river valley forty eight yard line.

Speaker 1 (02:05:06):
They're still running five wides, So second down and nine
and bake the pass harbled up ahead, but a penalty flag,
my guess will be a hold gain of about four.

(02:05:27):
We'll see what the call is.

Speaker 3 (02:05:30):
See a number I haven't called for Harding Eric number
seventy eight. Jacob Comstock is on the offensive line. Six
sick that he's not six to six. They got that wrong.
That's right if his number is right? Excuse me? Yeah, Yeah,

(02:05:53):
that's David Rich junior five nine two twenty sophomore. So
they got some nice young kids in there.

Speaker 1 (02:06:01):
There are other floornye.

Speaker 3 (02:06:04):
Jacobs is only a sophomore on the line. Will Adams
seventy seven's a senior, Ricky Johnson as a junior, So
they've got a little mixture there on their offensive line
for next year coming back.

Speaker 1 (02:06:25):
So second down, I was a fifteen yard penalty for
a chop block on the interior line, and very well
could have been just somebody slipping. But again, you can't
do that on the interior line. So second down in
nineteen under a minute, actually under fifteen seconds, Harbalt cuts
it up and does get out across the forty to

(02:06:46):
about the forty two yard line, and that's how we
will end this third period. As the time runs down
and River Valley maintains a seven to nothing lead over
her guarding, you're going to want to keep it right here, because, uh,
this is a game going all the way to the end,

(02:07:08):
no doubt about it. We'll take a break. When we
come back, we'll have the start of the fourth period.
You're listening to high school football on fourteen ninety WMRN.

Speaker 1 (02:08:18):
Week back here at River Valley High School started the
fourth period. River Valley up seven to nothing overhearding Eric
Moseley alongside coach Kuzio Scott Cameron on the sideline deep
past by Harbolt and boy they were tied up there

(02:08:40):
but incomplete, and I think that was Snyder on the coverage.
So a chance there by Harding and the way that
the field is, the way the weather is, I mean
they're both going. They're both going to the football. You
can't really call an interference call there.

Speaker 3 (02:09:00):
That was intended for thirteen Fleming Harris. So now Harding
with a wind of their back, as Jackson Shipley goes
out to punt, he will be at his own twenty
eight yard line. Snyder sets up at just in front
of the twenty yard line of of River Valley.

Speaker 1 (02:09:25):
And like number twenty four is going out. Yeah, I
was trying to figure out what was going on.

Speaker 3 (02:09:39):
It might be an equipment situation there. They're giving a
chance for Harding to get a sub and that's justin
Long coming in number forty. Okay line in the punt formation.

Speaker 1 (02:09:52):
So now Shipley line up to punt, snap gets back there,
Shipley gets it off another good kick, bounces down to
the twenty five and down at the twenty three yard line.
So if there's I mean, we'll talk about we'll figure
out our MVP. But I'll tell you what special mention

(02:10:14):
tonight to both kickers, they've done an excellent job.

Speaker 3 (02:10:17):
Yeah, because the number one the snaps sometimes haven't been there,
and in the snappers defense, it's very difficult in these conditions.
But both You're right, some of the best punts came
after bad snaps and the punters had to run and
kick the ball and really have done a great job.

Speaker 1 (02:10:35):
For both teams tonight. Absolutely so. First and ten at
the River Valley twenty three, that's where the Vikings take
over and Harding plane up Manna man one back in
the backfield, back to pass and that is complete to Snyder.

(02:10:56):
Good closing speed there by Juju Glover.

Speaker 3 (02:10:59):
Perfect DeFi but Snyder great hands comes up with the ball,
came right in and River Valley picks up pretty good yard.

Speaker 1 (02:11:09):
He's there on first down, second down and five for
the Vikings. Waddle in the backfield with Ebert and now
the handoff and Waddle is tackled right away inside the
interior line and loss of about one's third and five. Well,

(02:11:30):
I haven't seen is Jennings.

Speaker 3 (02:11:33):
I don't even know if he's down there, but number
seven for River Valley, when he.

Speaker 1 (02:11:38):
Gets read he has not been he's out. Okay, yeah
he has not been. Ill say.

Speaker 3 (02:11:46):
Yeah, I mean he has he kind of touchdown past
the one game we watched, and he carries has carried
the ball this year a little bit for him. Has
said seventeen carries, one hundred and three yards and four receptions.

Speaker 1 (02:11:58):
So eberts the pass incomplete. But I think they're calling
a call pass interference on harding the pass was way
behind the receiver, but I think Jerry Williams just got
caught hanging on to the receiver and the referees just
saying he didn't give him away to get there.

Speaker 3 (02:12:20):
Yeah, it looks like it's gonna be paid dividends for
River Valley. Picking up should be a first down here,
Yes it is, yep. So you know you'll they'll take
anything at this point in time, anything positive offensively, And
that time they pick up a first down, take it
another deep breath, and I look for him to try

(02:12:42):
to go for the downs here. Pretty soon ten thirty
seven left in the game, River Valley with the leads
seven to nothing, and this is what coach Williamson had
talked to us about on the football frenzy, we just
keep making mistakes that.

Speaker 1 (02:12:53):
Are costing us. Ebert back to pass throws across the
midll that one's gimps skips in front of Snyder. That
was five.

Speaker 3 (02:13:06):
Yeah, Glover on the play there, he did a nice
job of not hitting Snyder as Snyder was on the ground.
The ball was already incomplete and very disciplined there. Second
down in ten for the Vikings, and Snyder has done
a really good job. He's had a couple big deep

(02:13:28):
pass receptions, but he also he's been very successful on
just those short five yard in hook patterns, everything like that.
He just finds kind of the soft spot and is
able to get something going. Ebert takes it himself up
across the forty and they kind of faked the option there.

(02:13:48):
I didn't think I'd see that tonight. And Ebert takes
it himself and about a game and three makes it
third down and six. Well, one of the things River
Valley is doing is they're trying to short in the game.
You know, we know Harding wanted to try to shorten
the game, so they're letting the clock run down that time,
it was under ten seconds. Looks like they're going to
go a little quicker here twenty seconds. Nope, they're gonna

(02:14:11):
They're taking their time. So they're happy with the seven
to nothing lead and hopefully take about nine minutes off
and score at the end of it.

Speaker 1 (02:14:18):
Back to passes Ebert. He goes down to Snyder and
he had it, but gets hit hard there by Glover
and the ball comes out incomplete.

Speaker 3 (02:14:29):
Very nice defensive play there. Snyder had the ball and
Glover knocked it away. But I really do think coach
Watta was trying to milk the clock and get out
of here with a with a win one way or
the other, because he knows that anything could happen in
this type of ball game. Glover back at the thirty
for the prexis Pollock kicks it and almost gets it

(02:14:52):
blocked by. It's still a nice kick, and Glover was
really close to that ball and it.

Speaker 1 (02:15:01):
Was down at the nine. But boy, it looked like
Glover just started walking away and that ball bounced right
in front of him.

Speaker 3 (02:15:08):
Yeah, I mean, I thought they had three guys in
there to get the block. I don't know what happened,
but the kick was off. Poblack did a real nice
job of getting it away, and really what a defensive
play that is to force Harding to take the ball

(02:15:29):
with nine point fifty one to go on their own
nine yard line.

Speaker 1 (02:15:33):
Yeah, it's a long field for Harding just to try
to tie this game. And the way the game has
gone for both teams, you don't know how many more
opportunities they're going to get on offense, first and ten
at the Hardy nine yard line. Harbolt back to pass,

(02:15:57):
he throws it across and is that intercepted? They're saying incomplete?

Speaker 3 (02:16:02):
But boy Jackson caught ill right there. It looked close,
really came up and almost came up with a big interception.
I think River Valley feels that, you know, their patience
is gonna pay off here by getting an opportunity to
punt the football, deepen the Hardings territory, and if they
stop him here in this series, they're gonna be sitting

(02:16:23):
with the ball inside their own probably fifty yard.

Speaker 1 (02:16:26):
Line, second down in ten, nine four left in the
fourth period. River Valley still with a seven to nothing
lead Overhearding. Now the play clock is going down. Now
they got to call a time out because nobody and
nobody saw it. But there. Now see that's I mean,

(02:16:51):
he tried to call a time out. Now they're calling
a false start. I don't understand that. How could you
not see him calling the time out? Yeah, I mean, yeah,
we saw it all the way up here, and the
referees didn't see it. That was standing right in front
of them. Okay, that's all right. So second down, that's

(02:17:12):
a loss of five. So second down and fifteen.

Speaker 3 (02:17:18):
Right now, the momentum is definitely in River Valley's backyard.

Speaker 1 (02:17:27):
Harble tries to run up the middle. That closed up
real fast. Yeah, River Valley, right, this is a perfect
opportunity for him.

Speaker 3 (02:17:39):
Third down and thirteen, and Harding's still taking their time.
They're trying to, you know, milk the clock. Both teams
are really trying to get out of here ver or
Harding's counting on that big play to you get this
game tied up. And River Valley is sitting in great

(02:18:00):
field position here defensively nine oh six left. Third down
and thirteen, ball is at the six.

Speaker 1 (02:18:09):
Yard line of Harding. Harbolt goes out and now he
throws it across the middle and that is intercepted by
the Vikings. Yeah, that's the break that they've been waiting for.
River Valley, that is, and that is Luke Axelne coming
up with a big interception. And like I said, you know,
you just stay.

Speaker 3 (02:18:29):
Patient and wait for the other team to make a
mistake if you play sound defensively.

Speaker 1 (02:18:34):
At that time, they did and that was up for
grabs ball. It wasn't necessarily a terrible pass. There was
a receiver there, but the defender axe Line got right
there as soon as the defender got or the receiver
got there, and he was able to get that ball away.
So good job by the Vikings and by axe Line,
And it.

Speaker 3 (02:18:53):
Looks like a good situation for them also because the
rain looks like it's stopped. It's going to be out
of here. And you watch and see they score here
on the next series. Whether or not they worry about
milking the clock down, they're gonna they're gonna continue to
pick it up and go and go for more.

Speaker 1 (02:19:12):
Back to pass is Ebert. Now he goes back and
he throws it up ahead. That is incomplete second down,
and that was intended for Lang. Let's go down to
Scott real quick, Scott waterfield conditions like down there after
all this time.

Speaker 28 (02:19:32):
Well, you know what, it's really interesting you said some
of the punts said landed in the middle of the field.
You could tell it to sloppy mess because the ball
just dies. It doesn't bounce anywhere necessarily. Yeah, inside the
red zone the ball bounced a little bit more. But
that middle of the field slap. You can tell the
players trying to run comeback routes, out routes. It's it's
making it difficult.

Speaker 1 (02:19:51):
But Burr Valley's still playing a game, thanks Scott. Back
to passes, Ebert. He looked across the mill. Now he's pressured,
throws it out. They are a good comeback by the receiver,
and that is caught by Lang. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:20:05):
Lang's been pretty quiet tonight offensively. That time he came
up with a big catch. It's third and about two,
and I'll tell you they're knocking on the door here.
Looks like River Valley is really bound and determined to
smell the goal line here on this series. Well, and
they figure two, you have a kicker that could kick
a field goal, or you go for it on fourth down.

(02:20:25):
If you don't get the first down, you still pin
harding back deep. They have all kinds of options right now,
third down and three for the Vikings, and Ebert takes
it himself. He's tackled right away, maybe got a yard.
I think they're saying he got back to the lion
of scrimmage. So before and three I kind of like
to play call there, try to run a little auction

(02:20:46):
play and it just River or Harding just really did
a nice job. Looked like long was in on that side,
and Aggie or excuse me, number twenty four, that's uh
sibril for Harding over there on that side.

Speaker 1 (02:21:05):
Four and three Hudson Pollock in to kick the field goal,
and you know the way that the snaps have gone
tonight on both sides, and everything could there's so many
things that could go wrong, but one thing we know
won't necessarily go wrong is the you know, we've got
a strong leged kicker out there, and Harding or River
Valley takes the time out seven seventeen left and the

(02:21:30):
wind is in his face. There's no doubt about it.
But we've seen with Pollock, well.

Speaker 3 (02:21:37):
They've got a way whether or not the percentage of
making this field goal, like you say, with the win,
looks like it's blowing across this way, they make the
field goal, they're in the driver's seat to score game.
If he misses the field goal, anything could happen.

Speaker 1 (02:21:55):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (02:21:55):
So I really think that, you know, Harding's offense really
is kind of anemic, and I think River Valley has
stopped him and they feel pretty confident he's bringing the
offense back. He still has the guy, see Pollock. So
they make this and they're in the driver's seat.

Speaker 1 (02:22:11):
I think the rest of the way. Now you have
the quarterback as the one that is going to be
the holder. So do you dare do a fake here
and try to get the first round. I've been known
to snap back, ball down, kick us up. And that

(02:22:34):
is good. That was no doubt, nice job by Hudson Pollock.

Speaker 3 (02:22:39):
Now River Valley can take a big, big, deep breath
and and just get after it defensively, and uh, maybe
let Harding run the football a little bit, don't let
anything behind him, don't fall down, you know, don't let
an offensive guy get behind you and not allow the
big play.

Speaker 1 (02:22:59):
So about twenty five yard field goal attempt. That was
good there for River Valley and Hudson Pollock, and that
extends the River Valley lead tend to nothing overhearting with
seven thirteen left in the game, real quick. I last
week you got to have your your grandsons came up
and visited us. This week, my daughter is telling me

(02:23:22):
that my grandson AJ is listening to the game. He
keeps trying to talk to the TV. There you go,
because he thinks that I'm coming from the TV, but
I'm actually coming out of the well, I'm guessing the phone.
So AJ Pops loves you, glad that you're listening, and
maybe one day he is. He is going to be
two in a couple months, so actually just over a month,

(02:23:47):
kickoff is back and into the end zone. That'll be
a touchback. Well, Harding's in a tough situation.

Speaker 3 (02:23:57):
Right now with you know, trying to go five wide
get something here on a sloppy track. It looks green
still from here, but as Scott said, the middle of
the field is real mushy. So they were trying to
hope for the big play, and they had a couple opportunities,

(02:24:18):
especially on the punt situation, and they had a couple
of chances to maybe pick up a fumble but fumble recovered,
but weren't able to do that so now they're fourth
down ten enough and seven thirteen to go.

Speaker 1 (02:24:31):
First and ten. Matthew Sondiaker first down for the Prexies.
Shovel pass up ahead across the twenty and trying to
see who that was. That was number nine, That was
kve On Norman. So just to shovel pass forward back

(02:24:53):
to the line of scrimmage brings up second down.

Speaker 3 (02:24:59):
Yeah, Harding, we've got to hurry up here a little bit.
Now they six forty nine of the clock running. Tough
situation here, River Valley just letting them run the clock down.

Speaker 1 (02:25:11):
Let's go to Scott real quick.

Speaker 28 (02:25:12):
Scott, Hey, just so you guys know, obviously everything's four
down territory. But don't forget Rear Valley was at Harding
a couple of years ago and Harding got three on
side kicks in a row. So if Harding manages to score,
welcome has been on their side on some onside kicks
against River Valley.

Speaker 1 (02:25:28):
In recent history. Hey, there's so many things that could happen,
you never know. That time another shovel pass, this time
a loss of one, so brings up a third and long.
I like the optimism by Scott though. Yeah, well, hope
in one hand and yeah, yeah, we won't finish that one,
but we know how it goes.

Speaker 3 (02:25:48):
Yeah, I mean situation right now, I mean they're not
even they were huddling between plays. Down ten points, five
point fifty two to go in the clock running.

Speaker 1 (02:26:00):
So five forty eight, Harbalt runs to his left. He
just shovels it up ahead and that is complete, but
only about a gain of four and that brings up
fourth down again. You gotta figure it's a four down situation,
fourth down and six.

Speaker 3 (02:26:23):
Although yeah, it looks like they're going to continue to
run to try to run a play here. Fourth and
fourth and six. They give the ball back to River Valley.
In this situation, it's it's it's definitely over.

Speaker 1 (02:26:37):
Ball's at the Herding twenty three yard line, down ten
to nothing. This is a maybe a last gasp for
the Prex. He's back to pass his harble. He throws
it up and that's incomplete. Boy, he had a chance there.
That was intended for kbon Norman and it's turnover on.

Speaker 3 (02:26:57):
Down cadeal right there to make play on coverage. I'll
tell you what you've got to You've got to really
love the violent valiant effort by harding continuing to really
stay after it. Play a really hard fought game here tonight,
really a smart game, trying to do what they can
offensively and hopefully the big play and try to make

(02:27:18):
a big play. But they've left, they've emptied their buckets
on the field tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:27:22):
Yeah, and it's a it's a disadvantage when you have
to play with somebody inexperienced in a big position, but they,
you know, definitely played their hearts out. Ebert keeps it
to the outside and he slides down at the twenty
yard line a gain of about four maybe five. Yeah,
real smart play there.

Speaker 3 (02:27:41):
I like the call keep the ball in Ebert's hands,
run the clock. I'm sure they're gonna definitely go for
a score here. They're in great field position and they're
just gonna take their time. But keep the ball in
Ebert's hands. And he definitely was smart getting down lock
running five point fifteen left in this game, second down

(02:28:04):
in six. These are really great learning situations for an
offense right now, being up ten points with five h
two to go.

Speaker 1 (02:28:13):
Very good clock management here, Ebert running it to the
right side and he gets about two again, keeping the
clock running I want to remind everybody we will have
the Piller Credit Union Player of the Game when this
game is over. Yeah, I'll tell you.

Speaker 3 (02:28:30):
They could very well have thrown two passes in a row,
and they could have very well been incomplete and the
clock would have stopped and they wouldn't have run a
minute off the clock. But instead they kept the ball
on the ground. And the goal here is to win
the game, not the pad stats. So really smart playing
here right now.

Speaker 1 (02:28:52):
So four twenty left in this game, third down and
five Ebert hands it to Waddle. He gets scobbled up
in the middle of the field, so bring up fourth down.

Speaker 3 (02:29:04):
Plus his quarterback is limping a little bit there after
those two carries, well, and he's got a little chart
looks like he's got a little Charlie horse well and
let's face.

Speaker 1 (02:29:13):
It, and it looks like Hudson Pollock's going to come
back in for another field goal, this one about a
thirty yard field goal. But back to Ebert, I mean,
he's he's gotten punished tonight. He's escaped a few times,
but he's gotten hit hard, and he's put it all
out there on the field. No doubt. The Pollock lining

(02:29:36):
up for the or the field goal kick is up
and no good.

Speaker 3 (02:29:43):
Well, you got to give him a credit there. I
think coach did a nice job. And then a play
call right before the field goal he ran it to
the middle of the field to set that up. This
is all learning situation right here. How to close a
football game. They came up empty, but there's three thirty
two to go. They're in the driver's seat and the
main thing on their homecoming night is to win the

(02:30:06):
football game. And coach Coach and his staff are really
playing smart right now.

Speaker 1 (02:30:10):
Well, and we think back a few years ago, I
guess one of the complaints you could have had about
River Valley was that they didn't really know how to
do much clock management. You can tell now this is
a team that, even though they're running this high powered offense,
they really do know how to manage the clock. Well.

Speaker 3 (02:30:30):
Well, the second half you could tell they were very methodical.
They were also trying to shorten the game. They understand
this is only the sixth game of the season. They've
got a long way to go.

Speaker 1 (02:30:40):
Passes up and incomplete, but pass interference looks like it's
going to be the call up ahead to the forty
yard line, Harding. Harding's saying, hey, guys, not so fast.
We're still here. Yeah, codd All was on coverage there.

Speaker 3 (02:30:56):
Looks like he didn't really have his head turned to
make a play on the football, so he may have
got his hand on him.

Speaker 1 (02:31:04):
I can't really tell. It's clear across the way. And
and let's face it, coach, I mean they can they
can do this. Harding can do this. Throw the ball up,
maybe get the passer inference, but that's not necessarily going
to get you a score, right, You've got to complete
some passes. Well.

Speaker 3 (02:31:18):
Like we said, Harding is hasn't quit at all. They've
got a lot of fight in him.

Speaker 1 (02:31:23):
The ball is thrown up again through the hands of
the intended receiver. That's Dylan Holloway laying incomplete lang on coverage.
Real nice job there. They got their penalty flag in
the backfield. Might be roughing the passer. No, it's on Harding. Harding.

Speaker 3 (02:31:44):
Oh wow, So I don't know what it was. I
was watching the ball in the air, so it must
have been. Yeah, one of the lineman might have got
one of the oncoming rushers there.

Speaker 1 (02:32:05):
So that puts him way deep. Three twenty left in
this game down ten points. So the ball is at
the Harding twenty yard line first and twenty five, second
and twenty five. Harbolt runs it to the left side

(02:32:26):
and picks up about three yards and again it's the
Even though this game is moving closer and closer to
being a done deal, Coach Williamson for Harding is going
to come back to guys these mistakes that we keep
making that we know better, and you know, that's that's
the thing. They play good enough to win most of

(02:32:48):
the time, but then it's just those mistakes. Yeah, two
forty nine to go. River Valley just sitting like, you know,
let's just keep this clock running. Get out of here.
We're down in twenty two for the Prexies, Scott Harbolt
rose it now ball tipped and incomplete and so that

(02:33:14):
will bring up fourth down. Yeah, at this point you
just want to try to not get anybody hurt. But
they definitely you know, Harding not quitting at all.

Speaker 3 (02:33:29):
Yeah, that's one of the things, you know, running your
quarterback that's late in the game. And I like the fact,
you know, you run the run the running back in
this situation. Like we said, River Valley has played a
real smart football game tonight, clock management wise, knowing.

Speaker 1 (02:33:44):
That you know, you got to.

Speaker 3 (02:33:47):
Remember what happens has happened along the way. That's experience
of coach Wattle has as he understands that the important
thing for these is get this kids in position to
win a football game, and he has and they once
they got that seven nothing lead, he played a conservative
and they had an opportunity to maybe try to score

(02:34:07):
another touchdown before the half, but they only had the
ball and there in thirty yard line, and he ran
the football and went in a halftime seven nothing. Let
Harding make their mistake, and they did. River Valley picks
up the interception, but they hear just a few minutes ago,
but they still haven't been too interested in launching it

(02:34:27):
up in the air and then go up seventeen nothing.

Speaker 1 (02:34:30):
So they're they're very, very smart like that two thirty
one left in the game, fourth down and twenty two
for Harding, snap back and a little pass across the middle. Boy,
that's a nice completion. Unfortunately, about four yards short of
the first down.

Speaker 3 (02:34:50):
You know, Wattle came across and tried to knock it loose.
Should have gone for the tackle though. If he knocks
it loose, that's great. But if he doesn't lock it
loose like he made the catch, you know, the young
man could have broken loose and maybe taken it a
little bit farther.

Speaker 1 (02:35:07):
But very fortunate.

Speaker 3 (02:35:09):
River Valley with two twenty three to go on their
on Harding's forty yard line, and they're going back to shotgun.
Let's see if they elected to go ahead and launch
it up in the air. They've got plenty of room
to work here.

Speaker 1 (02:35:22):
Matthew sound actor, first down for or River Valley at
the Harding forty yard line, and you've been talking about
clock management as they hand off to Waddle, and I
have to imagine that that's what we're going to see
here on this last drive for River Valley is just

(02:35:45):
a lot of run, which is not what you would
normally see, but it makes sense. Right now, I'd say
two more times and kneel down. So second down and
eight for the Vikings, exactly two minutes left.

Speaker 3 (02:36:02):
They're letting me they get nineteen seconds on the field clock.
They're gonna let it run all the way down.

Speaker 1 (02:36:10):
And one thing that is good to see, you know,
a couple of you know, personal fouls, but nothing egregious tonight,
both teams playing a very clean game. There can always
be a lot of emotion and county game, and there wasn't.
It wasn't really too much tonight. No.

Speaker 3 (02:36:27):
I really like the way Wattle was carrying the football.
Two hands on the football. Young man down here, offensive
lineman looks like Carter Logan, slow to get up. He's
really been doing a great job here, hopefully. I don't
know if he should be walking on it or not.

Speaker 1 (02:36:47):
Carter Logan is a junior. He's sixty and eighty pound junior.
And go through some of the scores in the area
right now. Shall be up over Highland forty one to six,
North Union six, Shawnee nothing, Seneke East fourteen, Upper Sandusky seven,
Ontario big over guy In forty two to nothing, center

(02:37:10):
Berg twenty six, Cardington nothing, East Knox twenty, Mount Gilead nothing.
Pleasant is up ten to three, ten, ten, ten all.
Then at twenty five left in this game, and now

(02:37:39):
they're starting the play clock.

Speaker 3 (02:37:45):
And they're still eighteen seconds. It looks like they're gonna
take it all the way down. And now the referees
blow the whistle again. We're thinking Christian twenty eight, Elgin nothing,
Mohawk forty eight, Buckeye Central nothing, Jonathan Alder twenty one
at Urbana seven or Northern in a final forty two

(02:38:06):
to nothing over Ridgedale. So they're putting the clock at
one twenty six. And I didn't mention this in the pregame,
but anybody that's been to a lot of River Valley

(02:38:28):
games very familiar with coach Waddle to dye his hair blonde,
and so I congratulated him on the look when I
went and interviewed it him. Interviewed him before the game.

(02:38:54):
River Valley just taking their time snap back and Waddle
tackled right away behind the line of scrimmage. Brings up
fourth down, but that also brings it to I meant,
well Harding taking a time out, so a minute one
left and Harding going to head going ahead and taking
the time out as River Valley fourth and nine, Yeah,

(02:39:22):
right now, coaches, I know he's really adamant about something
down there talking to his troops. I don't think he's
happy with the line not firing out or something. But
they're in control with one oh one to go and
they're up ten to nothing. Played a really interesting, really

(02:39:44):
conservative second half, but real smart second half. The field
goal by Pollock did a real nice job to pretty
much put him ahead. But really Snyder, Ebert and company
and really a collective, a collective unit tonight offensively.

Speaker 1 (02:40:05):
Back to pass Ebert and he throws it out of
bounds incomplete. It was intended for axe line. So under
a minute left for River Valley or for Harding, but
under a minute left for River Valley to claim victory.
And you want to come out of these games, every
game healthy and and on the on the victorious side,

(02:40:27):
but especially after a game that has been so so
you know, messy with the field and the wind and
all that. You're just glad to get out of here
with the w and in relatively healthy. Yeah, when they
look at their record, it's gonna be what four and
two yep. And doesn't matter how you want it, all matters.

Speaker 3 (02:40:49):
They don't get points for points, so just get points
for the win.

Speaker 1 (02:40:55):
Back to pass and that ball intercepted by and that's
going to absolutely do it. And just a lot of
down heads for the Presidents. I know it's emotional and
they felt like they were in this game all night,

(02:41:18):
so they played their hearts out. I'll tell you what
they've gave a valiant effort. Ray J.

Speaker 3 (02:41:23):
Scott Harball really did a nice job stepping up under
the circumstances. And uh, I thought the coaching staff had
a pretty nice little game plan offensively defensively, Uh really
the high powered offense from River Valley, they kind of
held them in check when they needed to. But when heart,
when River Valley needed to, they got some big plays

(02:41:46):
and made some great catches. And Hebert was also you
know himself, throwing the ball to the park and when
he needed to. And you know, River Valley on their
homecoming night going to come up with victory. It always
makes homecoming a little bit better when your team is victorious.

(02:42:07):
I mean, there will be those kids that don't really
care they're going to the dance either way, but I
know the football team, the homecoming court, all of that,
they're much happier when when their team wins. And so
River Valley does come out victorious. Overhearding tend to Nothing.

Speaker 1 (02:42:26):
We'll go ahead and take a break. When we come back,
we will have a recap of this game and the
Pillar Credit Union player of the game again, River Valley
Overhearding tend to Nothing. You're listening to high school football
in fourteen ninety WMRN.

Speaker 35 (02:42:40):
At Ohio State Marion. We're serious about keeping college affordable
and accessible. With the lower tuition pathways of a regional
campus and over one million dollars an eight awarded to
Ohio State Marion students annually, we have the resources to

Speaker 2 (02:43:09):
The Matthews Honda Akurra High School Game of the Week.

Speaker 1 (02:43:16):
Back here at River Valley High School. The final score
River Valley wins tend to Nothing overhearding in their homecoming game.
Eric Moseley alongside coach John Couzio Scott Cameron down the
sideline and uh, you know, coach, we've kind of just
talked about how this high powered offense for River Valley,

(02:43:38):
even in the weather, was still able to be relatively
high powered tonight.

Speaker 3 (02:43:44):
Well, when they got goodfield position, they capitalized on it,
and the receivers did real nice job catching the ball
in their hands and they didn't let the footing or the.

Speaker 1 (02:43:55):
What wind or rain heard them at all.

Speaker 3 (02:43:59):
They were out here and they're gear before the game
in their uniforms warming up where I noticed Harding was
sort of had raincoats on.

Speaker 1 (02:44:09):
So that goes to show you that they.

Speaker 3 (02:44:11):
Came here on their home field play ready to play
once again, locked in and as the game progressed once
they get that first touchdown, Coach Watt and his staff
understood that the win is the most important thing, and
they ran the right plays under the circumstances to shorten
this game. In the second half. They were doing a

(02:44:32):
great job on clock management and that was pretty much
the story in the second half.

Speaker 1 (02:44:37):
The only touchdown scored in this game in the second
period four seventeen left in the first half, Eli Snyder
with a ten yard touchdown reception. That drive right there
alone had a couple of big plays that Ebert threw
to axe Line and to Snyder, so that one was

(02:45:02):
a really good drive, really key plays in that drive
for River Valley. Then really it was it was no
there was no movement for a little while both teams
were struggling to move the ball. River Valley found a
way to be able to move that ball enough and

(02:45:23):
then in the fourth period got the twenty five yard
field goal from Pollock to get the lead extended to
tend to nothing. So again it's you do what you
gotta do. It's a win in the record book. Nobody
needs to look at the score. It doesn't matter. It's
just a win. So that's the way I would imagine

(02:45:46):
River Valley's looking at it. As coach Waddle is talking
to his team right now on the field, we'll have
the Pillar Crat Union Player of the game shortly and
if you're harding, you know, dropping to one one in
five now or one in six, one in five, It's

(02:46:09):
just it's disappointing. It's a rivalry game. I think this
team does play hard. They just had some setbacks before
they even got out here on the field.

Speaker 3 (02:46:19):
Yeah, they were playing with a against the stacked hand
here tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:46:23):
But I'll tell you what, you got to give him
a lot of credit. I really.

Speaker 3 (02:46:27):
Respect coach Williamson and his efforts to you know, develop
structure and discipline on his team. And he you know,
we had him at Ralfie's. He's an upbeat guy and
he's a positive guy. And if these kids will follow him.
I'm sure he's gonna be He's a great leader and
these kids need to follow him and listen and you know,

(02:46:50):
be cohesive. And once he gets everybody on the right
page on the same page, they are on the right page,
on the same page, I think things.

Speaker 1 (02:46:58):
Are going to turn around for him.

Speaker 3 (02:46:59):
But really got to I like their effort even after uh,
the interception of the kind of ice the game, the
hurting receiver. The receivers that were in the area were
showing some emotion negatively, but they weren't like you know,
they were frustrated because you know, it came up. They
were trying to go to get a score. And even
though it was not a lot of time on the clock,

(02:47:21):
that shows that shows that they care. And I think
that's Uh, you've got to give them a lot of effort.
They have a lot of pride in what they're doing,
and uh, we wish them the best of luck. The
thing that they can't do is they have to they
can't give up. They have to keep playing. It's it
is a long frustrating season when you don't come up
and you work so hard yep, during the during the

(02:47:42):
course of the week, and it came up missing tonight,
But all the credit goes to River Valley tonight for
really understanding the situation. The win was the most important thing.
Played conservative in the second half. Did throw the football
a little bit when they needed to pick up, you know,
first downs, and and ran the ballty In. I think

(02:48:05):
when he ran Hebert a couple of times there on
those keepers, he gets up a little bit hanged up.
I think he said, well, he's gonna I'm gonna run
my own son now, Yeah, let him take some time
off the clock. He's got two hands on the football.
They didn't really, I don't think care whether or not
they picked up any yardy. They just wanted to make
sure that they kept the football and kept time running off.

(02:48:26):
So really a really nice game plan for Valley tonight.

Speaker 1 (02:48:30):
Absolutely, I see Scott's trying to get into position as
the team is lining up to sing the alma mater.
I want to go back to what you were saying
about Harding and coach Williamson. I am a I am
a big fan of all of our county coaches, and
especially coach Williamson. He's really working hard to build something.

(02:48:57):
He's got a great staff around him, and we know
a lot of those guys. And you know, I guess
the thing I come back to is that the the
old I don't give much credit to anybody that's a
Michigan Wolverine, but the old saying those who stay will win.
Sometimes you got to prune to make make it grow.

(02:49:19):
And I think that coach Williamson is trying to build
something there and I appreciate everything he tries to do. Hey,
before you go.

Speaker 3 (02:49:27):
To Scott, I just got a text from my roving
report or calling Boyd out there at I guess he's
getting reports from Clear Fork and it looks like it's
an overtime ten ten Okay, pleasant and clear Forks, pleasant,
clear barn burner here in Moac.

Speaker 1 (02:49:43):
All right, let's throw it down to Scott. Scott, go ahead.

Speaker 28 (02:49:47):
Hey, we got a god. Pulling Stone said, you don't
always get what you want, sometimes get what you need.
How do you think that wins tonight?

Speaker 20 (02:49:56):
I think we got enough that we needed to night
to obviously get the win. And we you know, still
was able to throw the ball a little bit and
have some success. And you know, we were able to
run the ball a little bit and run some clock
and we didn't turn the ball over tonight, So that
was a big plus for us on our defense. Again
answered the bell and our guy over here touts the plug,

(02:50:18):
put one through the uprights and did a great job picking.

Speaker 1 (02:50:21):
All that one.

Speaker 28 (02:50:22):
So kind of talk us through that, because we talked
about it during the broadcast first half.

Speaker 13 (02:50:28):
Fourth and short and you guys just.

Speaker 28 (02:50:30):
Went for it, going all out for it. It seemed
like you were just kind of putting your chips in.
Walk us through what was the mindset on that fourth
and short and which ultimately led to a touchdown.

Speaker 20 (02:50:40):
Oh yeah, I mean, I mean, we have confidence on
our offense no matter what the conditions are. We feel like,
you know, when we're on offense, they got to stop
this four down. So it's especially with our offense, it's
tough to defend. So we feel, you know, anytime we
had the ball, it's you know, it puts a lot
of pressure on the defense to come up with four
straights and.

Speaker 28 (02:51:01):
You know, sometimes again it's not always pretty. Sometimes it's ugly,
and sometimes it's a win. Right next week, she'll be
trying to work your way up the standings. What's your
thought process going into that.

Speaker 20 (02:51:12):
It's gotta be the same one as it has been
the last few weeks, and we gotta, you know, come Monday,
Rdy to put the work in.

Speaker 1 (02:51:19):
Let's watch for.

Speaker 20 (02:51:19):
Home and get prepared to play get football team, you know,
and you know last year to beat them, So no
reason why we can't go up there and do the
same issue.

Speaker 28 (02:51:29):
All right, thanks coach, congratulations.

Speaker 1 (02:51:31):
Hey guys, we'll.

Speaker 28 (02:51:32):
Just go ahead and keep it here for the Pillar
credit Union Player of the game?

Speaker 1 (02:51:36):
Right?

Speaker 11 (02:51:38):
Okay?

Speaker 1 (02:51:39):
All right, so I got a player of the game here,
Hudson Pollock.

Speaker 28 (02:51:42):
Not really, it's an abnormal kind of game, so I guess, uh,
why not have the kick or be player of the game.
So two sport athletes, how do you balance all that
going on in life?

Speaker 20 (02:51:53):
I would say I've been doing it for three years now,
so I'd say it's just kind of been a part
of my everyday life now.

Speaker 28 (02:51:59):
It's just kind of.

Speaker 1 (02:52:02):
Schedule one, just like anybody else.

Speaker 28 (02:52:04):
Would do you like, do these conditions what's like, I mean,
very rainy, very wet, just wind blown like crazy? How
does that affect your game? Because you made some incredible
punts Tonight's that.

Speaker 20 (02:52:17):
I would say the hearty part could beat was probably getting.

Speaker 7 (02:52:20):
Just my hands dry just to catch the punt and
then I mean it's nothing too out of the ordinary,
just a little bit.

Speaker 28 (02:52:29):
And how to feel kicking that ball through kind of
putting the nail into proverbial coffin at the game kicking
that field goal.

Speaker 1 (02:52:36):
It felt good just because it like was kind of
my first, you know, game closing field goal.

Speaker 30 (02:52:43):
I would just I don't know, it felt.

Speaker 13 (02:52:45):
Good, hopefully not the last.

Speaker 1 (02:52:47):
Congratulations young man, nice job back to you, Eric, Thanks Scott,
and uh Hudson Pollock the Pillar Credit Union player of
the game. And uh, you know, coaches games like to
know that you you want to have good special teams players,
and we can really say both teams had some pretty
good special teams players in their kickers.

Speaker 3 (02:53:08):
Yeah, Shipley also did a good job for Harting tonight,
Uh you know, kicking for them, and uh, you know,
I tell you got to give credit to the punt snappers.
Some of them weren't that great. They rolled back there,
but at least they weren't over their head to where
the other that the defense could uh recover it. So yeah,

(02:53:29):
both young men did a really nice job of punting
the football tonight. Definitely a definite advantage for you to
have a kid like Pollock on your team.

Speaker 1 (02:53:37):
Well that will wrap everything up here, and uh, coach,
let's uh, let's get you know, everything put away so
we can get back to a dry studio. I'm I
just I wish I brought a change of clothes, so
still a little damp. But it was a lot of
fun to watch this game, and we thank you all
for joining us here tonight at River Valley. Next week

(02:53:59):
We're Valley will be traveling to Shelby and Harding will
be hosting clear Ford. We will be at Elgin as
the comments will host Waynsfield Goshen. Now stick around for
the scoreboard show. Raelyn Graver and Alex Bikerman will cover
all the area's games, plus talk about the latest in
college and pro football. We'll join the conversation when we
get there again. The final score tonight, River Valley defeats Harding.

(02:54:24):
Tend to nothing here at River Valley. So for Coach
Couzio and Scott Cameron here with me, we say so
long and we hope you have a wonderful weekend.
