presented by Matthews Honda Acurra on fourteen ninety WMRT. Tonight's
game is brought to you by.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
The Union Bank, Central Ohio Farmers, co Op Killer Credit, Union,
Premieer Optometry Group and Matthews Honda Accurate.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Now Tonight's countdown to kickoff.

Speaker 3 (00:25):
Good evening.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
We are live on the east side of Marionett River
Valley High School for the Premiere Optometry Countdown to kickoff
as we get you ready for the Matthews Honta Accurate
Game of the Week featuring the Highland Scott's visiting the
River Valley Vikings. Alongside coach John Couzio, I'm Eric Moseley.
These two teams are not in line for an MOAC
title anymore, but both are still alive in the playoff hunt.

(00:49):
River Valley's been much like it has been for many
years with a pass happy offense, but Highland changed things
up after losing All Ohio and Dan Nauman to graduation
as they are much more past in a team. Now,
let me bring in coach Couzio. Coach, is it difficult
for any team to change their offensive identity after doing
it one certain way for four years.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
Well, coach Stover from Highland obviously has taken a look
at his personnel and in the offseason he figured that
this is gonna be the best way to go. You've
got a good back like Norman. You don't have him anymore,
but he does have a fine quarterback and his son,
and they've got some good receivers on the outside. They've

(01:30):
got looks like they've got some height, they've got some
length on the outside, which should be a good matchup.
And no, I mean you just goes from you. Those
guys just have to pass block and give him some time.
And his son is a season quarterback. He's been there
a while and obviously being a coach's son, he's gonna
know the game very well. So I think it should

(01:51):
be should have been a pretty good easy transition for
Highland this year.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
It's interesting you and I have been familiar with the
MOAC since its inception, and it was always a run
first league for a long time, and now we're to
the point where there's really only two maybe three teams
that've rushed for over a thousand yards this year. It's
much more of a pass happy conference. Yeah, I mean,
you do what you can do.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
And River Valley sort of has set the tone with
the passing offense. Obviously Shelby. You know they beat River
Valley last week, and I know they have more of
a balanced attack with the running game added in to that.
But yeah, it's pass happy. But as long as you
get the weather, it's it could be pass happy. But

(02:38):
we've had situations where a team's had to adjust and
go to Plan B with a wet night. And one
of the things I wanted to mention tonight as far
as the environment tonight, we're out here at River Valley
sitting high up on the top of the press box.
We've got the cornfield ready for the corn to be
taken off. What a beautiful night. We've had hot weather,

(02:58):
we've had cooler weather, We've had wind, We've had rain
and wind, and now tonight we have the ultimate night
with really a nice temperature, nice little breeze. Wind should
not be a factor for either one of these teams
passing the football.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
It is a great evening for football. And we're just
getting started here on countdown to kickoff.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
We'll take a break. When we come back.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
You will hear comments from River Valley head coach Matt Waddle.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Joining me right now is Rally head coach Matt Waddle
coach last week went up against the other top team
in the m A C against Shelby. Not the desired result,
but he kind of kept with him for a little while.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
What did you take away from that game?

Speaker 13 (06:25):
I mean, we got off to a good start, fast
start offensively, you know, defensively, we just we didn't play
very well that night and we got behind a little bit,
so had to maybe be a little bit more of
an up tempo team that we wanted that we really
wanted to be that night. You know, two years ago

(06:46):
when we beat him, we were kind of tried to
control the clock a little bit and keep the ball
on their hands. You know, this year, we just kind
of fell behind a little bit, so we we felt
like we had to play catch up the whole night.

Speaker 3 (06:59):
So that kind of hurt us a little bit.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Now you've played against what are considered the two top
teams in this conference, and both of those games you seem.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
To play very well for a little while.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
How do you feel about the team, because now you're
you're pushing for a playoff spot. Now, how do you
feel you stack up and what are some of those
things maybe that it just a little tweak might get
you over the top.

Speaker 13 (07:21):
Well, in our three losses, you know, the three losses
we have this year are all underfew the teams, So
you know, we've played some pretty good football teams so
far this year. We feel like, you.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Know, at times.

Speaker 13 (07:32):
We've been able to compete with those teams for the
most part of the games, but there's just for whatever reason,
at some point in the game, there's been a little.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Bit of a lag. So you know, we want to
we want to make.

Speaker 13 (07:43):
Sure we try to keep improving, like you said, trying
to set ourselves up for a possible playoff push here,
playoff positioning. We got a great chance here these last
three games to you know, get three wins, give ourselves
a chance at a whole playoff game, maybe even possible too.
So you know, that's that's the goal right now. Just
you know, let's take it one week at a time,

(08:05):
Let's control what we can control, and then we'll let
the rest, you know.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
Take care of itself.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
Through the course of the season. What I've watched, it
seems like Number one, the offensive line really is has
gotten better each week. Not that they start off bad,
but they've really solidified. Tell us a little bit more
about how that line has improved, especially I think the
pass blocking, which is key. They've done a great job.

Speaker 13 (08:29):
Yeah, I think you know, we had I think three
new starters on the line this year, so you know,
it took took a little time for them to kind
of gel. The great thing about the line right now
is they're all juniors, so looking you know, not that
we want to look ahead to next year, but you
know that's gonna be a nice piece for us next
year that all.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
Those guys get to come back.

Speaker 13 (08:51):
So they're really starting to come together, really starting to
play well. Still got to just you know, try to
keep getting better every day.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Uh, still improve.

Speaker 13 (09:00):
Fun you know, getting eliminating the false false snaps or
the false penalties, fall starts, and you know, try to
eliminate some of the holding calls.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
But yeah, they've.

Speaker 13 (09:10):
Done a much better job as the season's gone on
as far as protecting the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
Looking at the league this season, it's really turned into
an almost heavy, all heavy passing league. Only two teams
that I could see, maybe three that have over a
thousand yards rushing, and so it probably makes it a
little bit different on defense this year. And tonight we'll
talk a little bit more about Highland, but they were
very much a running team in the past. What has

(09:36):
it done for your your preparation in these teams and
how you've kind of figured out how to defend these teams.

Speaker 13 (09:43):
Well, I think a little bit of it is, you know,
our defense gets the c our offense every day, so
that that in itself helps helps us prepare for you know,
the teams in the league, and every single team in
the league has a better quarterback. They're all basically three
year starters at all the schools other than maybe clear Fork,

(10:05):
who's still a run team, but the rest of the
league is pretty much spread and they all have quarterbacks
that have been three year starters. So you know, it's
real exciting for the for the season, for the league,
just with all the special quarterbacks that we have in
our league.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
So let's talk about Highland tonight.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
It's a team, like we said, has switched over from
a run heavy game to a pass heavy game on offense. Defensively,
still pretty much what they've always been. What do you
see out of the Scott's team? What kind of stands
out to you?

Speaker 13 (10:34):
I mean, anytime you look at the Scotts, you always
talk about their physicality on the line. They're usually very
physical on the on the offensive defensive line. And then
you got to look at the quarterbacks over again, you know,
a three year starter, and then they got some pretty
talented receivers.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
You know, they're all people will catching the ball. They
all got pretty good speed.

Speaker 13 (10:58):
I know, the one kid six four, the one receiver
they have six to four, So you know, they got
they got some nice pieces around around the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
And I imagine they have a lot of guys playing
both ways.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
You guys do too, but it feels like River Valley's
got a little bit.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
More depth to where some of those guys don't have
to play both ways. Has that been a good advantage
for you guys this year?

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (11:18):
I mean, you know, since I've been here, whether it's
been as an assistant or the head football coach, you know,
we tried to to platoon as much as possible, try
to keep guys fresh, try to play more guys, get
more guys involved on Friday Night, to get them experience,
and you know, help help our football team and our
football program grow. But I truly believe that that's helped

(11:41):
us on the offense and defensive lines and at linebacker.
Them guys not having to play both ways all the time.
And you know, our skill guys, they they most of
them played both ways. But we are deep enough on
the offensive side to give those guys that are playing
defense break every now and then and not you know,
really be hurt by putting putting a guy in for him.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
And one of those guys that doesn't have to play
both ways is your quarterback. I'm sure that he wants
to play defense, but how has that been, especially this
year with some of that depth that you have in
that secondary, where he doesn't have to play.

Speaker 13 (12:20):
Yeah, I mean, it allows him to focus on the
offensive side of the ball. It allows us to you know,
why we're on defense, to communicate.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
With him and and.

Speaker 13 (12:27):
Talk to him about what we're seeing, what he's seeing,
making adjustments in in game. So that's that's a big
contributor for him not having to play defense. Like you said,
the kid would love to play defense, he'd love to
be out there every snap, but for us, beneficially.

Speaker 3 (12:44):
We need him at quarterback.

Speaker 13 (12:46):
And you know, we got some pretty good guys in
the secondary that's allowed him not to have to worry
about playing in the secondary.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
So, just a couple more weeks left in the season.
Earlier this year, you've talked about this team has been
very fun focused and even through losses, they've been focused.
What's been the key to keeping that, especially now with
the playoffs in sight to keep them focused on what's
going on.

Speaker 13 (13:11):
Yeah, we just keep you know, and try to keep
talking about our goals. You know, the goal number one
for us was to get better every day, so we
we emphasize that every day.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
We got to get better every day as something.

Speaker 13 (13:24):
And then goal number two was to have a winning
football season and that's still available.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Uh. Goal number three was to win the league.

Speaker 13 (13:31):
Obviously that that's not going to probably pay an out
for us, but you know, one of the main goals
that we have is is to obviously make the playoffs.
But something that's never been done here is when two
consecutive playoff games in the same season.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
So you know, I think our.

Speaker 13 (13:46):
Seniors and our juniors want to leave that legacy that
they're able to get that done. And then you know,
if we can get that done, then obviously goal number
five for us is always, uh, compete in the state
championship so we can take care of two playoff games.
We're putting ourselves in a close position to you know,
possibly play in a state championship game.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
Well, it's going to be exciting to see. Good luck
tonight and I hope everything goes well and go Vikes.

Speaker 3 (14:12):
I appreciate it. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (14:15):

Speaker 2 (17:10):
We are live here at River Valley High School as
the River Valley Band starts coming out now. It's getting
pumped up here and there's a lot of good games
going on in the area tonight. Other teams from Marion
County plain tonight. Pleasant is at Gallion, Harding is at Ontario,

(17:31):
Upper Side of Valley travels to Elgin. That's a big
game for the comments if they want to be able
to improve playoff positioning maybe sneak into a league title,
and Corey Rosson travels to Ridgdale. In the Northern ten,
Seneca East is at Buckeye Central, Winford is at b Cyrus,
Kerry is at Colonel Crawford, and Upper Sandusky is at Mohawk.

(17:53):
That is our game tonight on Magic ninety five to nine.
The other MOAC contest tonight, Shelby travel to Clear Fork
in the KMAC. Mount Gillia is a Northmore, Loudonville is
at Cardington Centerberg goes to Danville. East, Knox is at
Frederick Town and other area gamesin Benjamin Logan goes to

(18:13):
North Union, and Buckeye Valley is at Bishop Reedy and
coach a lot of good games tonight the Pleasant Gallion game,
guyon trying to get back on track, started the season
four to oh and then they've lost three straight. Pleasant
still playing for a high seed in the playoffs, and
they're in good position. Plus they've got a pretty big

(18:35):
next next couple of weeks with Harding and Shelby. So
this would be a good way for Pleasant to get
right on track.

Speaker 4 (18:42):
Yeah, you don't know what happened to Galion. I'm guessing
probably some injuries. If they were playing that well in
the beginning of the season and then they lost three straight,
I'm thinking maybe some injuries. But what Pleasant is gonna
give you is the same thing.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
Every week.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
They're gonna go out and give you their best effort
every week. They're going to be consistent because you're playing
against a program and CJ has it to the point
where he's got things up to where they're gonna go
out and they're gonna give their best their a game,
and I look for Pleasant to go up to Gallion
tonight and maybe get one on the road.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Harding has to take on Ontario. That's a tough place to play,
especially with Ontario playing as well as they are very well,
might end up being the best team in the mac.
Hardy's just trying to find a way to get something going. Yeah, offensively,
they've been very struggling very well. I know that coaches
are trying to find a formula to get some points

(19:37):
on the board. They played one week without their starting
quarterback and then last week they played, you know, some
pretty decent football. But I'll tell you they just they're
trying to figure out, you know, the winning formula there
and to be able to finish a football game. If
they come out very strong in the beginning, they kind
of lose it if they have some adversity. So they

(20:00):
need to go over Ontario and every man has to
step up and try to play their best game. And
Elgin looking to get back on the winning side tonight
against Upper Sight of Valley, who's one of the top
teams in their conference.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
That'll be interesting.

Speaker 4 (20:16):
Yeah, it's I know coach Winslow is very frustrated, and
we've got the national anthem and we'll come back to
that in a second.

Welcome back to Countdown to Kickoff.

Speaker 2 (25:35):
We're just finishing that up as we're getting ready for
our Matthew signed to acurate Game of the Week as
River Valley hosts Hyland. I want to throw it down
to the third member of our team, Scott. Cameron, Scott,
you've got a chance to talk with both head coaches.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
What do you have?

Speaker 10 (25:50):
You know?

Speaker 29 (25:50):
Yeah, Talking with coach Stover, he sounded like he was
pretty confident in how things were going to go. He
had a couple keys for the game tonight for his team.
He feels if he can get two turnovers for River
Valley to commit tonight, he's going to be in a
very good position for his team to win. Talking with
coach Wattle this week, he's focused on the offense that

(26:11):
cannot only execute without pillies, but also wanting to make
Highland be fifth one of flats on defense, and if
Stover is in on defense for Highland waddles, he's wanting to.

Speaker 14 (26:21):
Use Arby's offense to soften up Stover.

Speaker 29 (26:23):
He also saw similarities between Highland and other teams that
they faced. Feels pretty good about a game plan he
has Highland again, they're a team of Doctor Jack and
mister Hyde, meaning they can be dangerously inconsistent and fellows.
At the risk of using another metaphor, I guess, but
out of this game is a fork and roadive a
football season, two middle place conference teams, and they both
need to win to separate themselves. So, guys, when you

(26:45):
reach that perobial fork in the road, you bean gravit.
So I guess it may come down to who wants more.

Speaker 4 (26:50):
Right, especially if it's Doctor jackal and mister Hyde.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
Oh boy, you guys behave you guys be good to
each other. You know, Scott brought up what what coach
Stover said about two turnovers. You look at this Highland team.
They have a plus eight turnover ratio, tops in the MOAC.
So they they have thrown six interceptions only given up

(27:15):
two fumbles. But they've collected and caused seven fumbles and
nine interceptions, so this looks like a defense.

Speaker 3 (27:22):
It is pretty opportunistic.

Speaker 4 (27:24):
Well, they're gonna have to be opportunistic tonight to really
stop the Vikings.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
We got.

Speaker 4 (27:30):
They're gonna have a fast track tonight. He's got a
little bit of agrease kind of picked up here in
the last half hour, So you know, Highland's gonna be
without one of their guys that have been producing some
offense for him who's injured, Number two Sam Hernandez. He
was coming would have been coming into the game with
sixty four carries and uh three touchdowns forty two yards

(27:53):
a game, so they're gonna be missing that. But one
of the guys from Highland's gonna have to step up.
But I don't really think I think the running game
is going to be really something that they're going to
worry about too much because, as you said, they have
Zach Church forty four rushes, but he also has twenty
five receptions, Court Sears with twenty receptions, and Cayden Richtenbach

(28:17):
eighteen receptions. So I think they're going to air it
out just like the Vikings. And I'll tell you what
if we're going to have a passing game. We may
not get out of here too soon.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
Well, last week we were in a game that was
two wing t offenses and we barely saw many balls
in the air. This week, I don't think we're going
to see a ton of runs unless it's quarterback scrambling
or just a dive up the middle. But it's going
to be fun either way. River Valley is going to
get the ball first. And the Vikings just came out

(28:52):
and Highland just came out. River Valley in their navy
blue jerseys, yellow pants, white letters and numbers with yellow trim,
and their navy blue helmets with the white Viking.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
Horns on each side.

Speaker 2 (29:10):
Highland in all white blue pants, white helmets, and I
believe that there's a logo on the side, but I'm
too far away to see it. Back to receive for
River Valley will be Colton Lang and it's hard to
see the numbers anymore. I believe ty Manette.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
For the Vikings, you're gonna have Snyder, Hebert, Axe Line,
you're gonna have Park, You're gonna have the guys up front, Seller, Crawford, Thorpe,
Logan and Kloa. Those are the guys that make it
happen up front.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
And that kick taking at about the twenty five and
that was a slow roller to Noah work. So the
Vikings will take over start the game after the Ohio
State University at Marion kickoff at their own forty four
yard line.

Speaker 4 (30:04):
Great field position. The wind seems to be blowing across
from their right to left. Vikings obviously in one back
set here they're going to spread them out and this
could be a track meet tonight. Eric who ever has
the most stamina on defense.

Speaker 2 (30:20):
Three wide on the near side, single receiver at the top,
one back in the backfield next to Chase Ebert. Ebert
back to pass, throws it out to Snyder and just
a little bit low on that swing pass incomplete.

Speaker 4 (30:32):
Yeah, pretty decent, decent pressure by number. Let's see nine
for that's Cane Stover coach another coach's son, sophomore six
foot two five really putting a nice little pressure.

Speaker 2 (30:46):
Made Eber throw sidearm second down and ten for the Vikings.
Looks like man coverage as they creep up on the corners.
Now they back off two wide receivers on each side
for the Vikings. Here will be man coverage on the top.
Back to pass is Ebert. Now her rolls to his left,

(31:07):
he's being chased, reverses, goes back to his right. He's
back all the way at the twenty five yard line.
Now he throws it and that is almost intercepted.

Speaker 3 (31:18):
I mean, I get it.

Speaker 2 (31:19):
Ebert feels like he can make up play every time,
but sometimes you just gotta know when to throw it
out of bounds.

Speaker 4 (31:23):
Yeah, he tried to go to lang, but I'll tell
you number twelve, Cooper Young Uh Senior six ' one
one seventy was right there in the pleasant game when
he had that situation. Eric, he threw it out of
bounds that time. He tried to make something happen by
kind of throwing it across his body and a really
kind of a bad angle. Could have been a tough
break for River Valley, but to no avail. They've now

(31:46):
forced with a third down.

Speaker 2 (31:47):
Third and long for the Vikings. Ebert scans the field,
throws it out and that is complete up ahead to the.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
Highland forty three forty two yard line.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
That's the Matthews Hontiagra first down to Eli Snyder.

Speaker 4 (32:04):
Yeah, River Valley going with a hurry up here to
try to catch Highland from lining up. They're not lined
up really too good here.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Now it looks like Ebert going across the middle and
that's just knocked the way. Great coverage. I think that
was intended for Carter Park.

Speaker 4 (32:20):
Yeah, Elliott Fisher Senior made a great play, reached over
the shoulder and knocked it away. Real fine defensive play.
Couldn't getting better than that.

Speaker 2 (32:32):
Second down and ten at the Highland forty eight yard line,
Ebert looks to the sideline. Really only about a three
man rush most times they do have a free rusher
on each side or on one side overloaded. Ebert back

(32:56):
to pass, goes down the sideline and incomplete. And I
know they wanted the pass interference. The defender did not
turn around. They probably could have called it well.

Speaker 4 (33:08):
Number sixteen, Branton Newsom was right there, saphomore five to
eighty one forty not a real big kid. He was
out size there with the Viking receiver. But to no avail,
the referee was right there and called it incomplete.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
That was intended for Luke axe line. So third and
ten for the Vikings ax lines single or excuse me,
two wide receivers of top side ax Line as the
outside receiver three on this near side. Now Ebert looks
to run, goes to the Riot cross the forty five
up to the forty only a game of about two,

(33:45):
and that will bring up an interesting fourth down call. Yeah,
real nice defensive played by fifty two Gavin Wiggan and
number nine that was Cane Stover. You're gonna hear a
lot of those guys.

Speaker 3 (33:58):
Wingings.

Speaker 4 (33:59):
Also their kicker, I believe, pretty good kicker for Highland,
Tim and Net comes into the game for Ian ax Line.
Fourth down and seven at the Highland forty yard line.
Ebert gets the ball, he's looking now he double pumps,
and now he gets sacked.

Speaker 3 (34:15):
He is taken down.

Speaker 2 (34:17):
That's a huge loss, and Hyland gets great field position
at the River Valley forty five yard line.

Speaker 4 (34:23):
Yeah, that was fifty two Winging in seventy nine, that
was Hunter Taylor. He's a junior five eleven one ninety five.
I'll tell you the thing that I've just noticed here
in the last three or four plays with Highland, their
defensive line are very quick. They're coming across the line
and if they can hold up, they're gonna give Ebert
a lot of problems.

Speaker 3 (34:42):
Tonight.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
So here comes the Scott offense, led by the six
four ninety seven pounds senior Colton Stover at quarterback. They
have four wide, one back in the backfield. Stover in
the shotgun. He hands the ball off to and Church
gets a nice gain on first down about three yards.

Speaker 4 (35:03):
Yeah, real nice play there, and you're gonna hear number
five for River Valley, no wreck. He's five to eleven,
one ninety five. He's really done a great job defensively.
Sixty four tackles and six tackles for loss for the Vikings. Vikings,
You're gonna have to stiffen up a little bit on
the run. No backs in the backfield. Five wide, Stover

(35:25):
awaiting the snap, gets it, slings it out and completes
it up ahead for a MATTHEWSNTI actor first down at
the thirty five yard line, and I believe that was
Cooper Young, Cooper Young. Yeah, real nice played by Cooper
Young there on the reception. And I believe he got

(35:46):
the first down basically on his second effort leaning forward
and just picked it up on just by a real
fine play there leaning forward.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Church back in the backfield next to Stover in the
shotgun first and ten and they hand it off to
Church and he gets stood up maybe again of one
second down.

Speaker 4 (36:05):
Yeah, real nice running play there, trying to pick up.
Look like Ririck was in there, Waddell was in there
twenty four for the Vikings. That's Kanegi was in there.
You're gonna hear those guys a lot number six. So
we talk about him. Harrison Bradley, he's been in there,
played a really good defensive end for River Valley. Ryan

(36:29):
Green on the other side. Real nice bookend defensive ends.

Speaker 2 (36:33):
So now back to an empty backfield like they did
on second down just a little bit ago. Second down
and nine at the River Valley thirty four yard line,
Stover back to pass, throws it out there, complete across
to the twenty five. That's close to another first down.
That's a complete to Church and that is a Matthews

(36:53):
Hondactor first down.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (36:55):
I'll tell you what Stover I remember him. Would have
been three years years ago when he was starting over here.
I believe he got injured, went out of the game,
was on the smaller side. But I'll tell you he's
really matured and he has a really smooth release on
his pass. I really like what they're doing over there,
and they're going down or finding a little void in

(37:16):
the zone, and boy, he just puts it right on
the money.

Speaker 2 (37:20):
And right now the offensive line is really protecting him well.
Every pass play he has plenty of protection. Plus he's
he's not holding the ball too long. If there's a
difference between both quarterbacks right now, that'd be the biggest
difference right JJ. Walton's in there a defensive noseguard and
he's gonna be huffing and puffing with the way things

(37:41):
are going. Stover fakes the handoff and runs right behind
on that dive and takes it ahead for three yards,
brings up second down.

Speaker 4 (37:48):
Yeah, just isolated on Walton. He went to the right
and the running back went to the left. He kind
of overran the play and avoid of the defense going
with River Valley going with a three man defensive alignment,
which makes him real soft to the right and to
the left of the nose, and they're just running right
at the linebackers. Second down and seven take them. They're

(38:12):
taking what River Valley's given him.

Speaker 2 (38:14):
Right now, back to passes Stover, he's under some pressure
steps up now. He takes off across the twenty up
ahead to the fifteen, and I think he may have
another first down and we'll see where they mark it.
But right now it looks like Colton Stover is putting
on a clinic here early in this game.

Speaker 4 (38:34):
It will be third down and one. Well, he's shown
some good quickness with his feet there getting out of
trouble and the linemen are trying to corrall him in.
But boy, he bounced it to the outside and went
out of bounds and picking up a big game. It's
gonna be third and a real short. One ball is
at the Viking sixteen yard line. Stover hands it off

(38:55):
to Church. He does get the Matthews Hunt actor a
first down up ahead to the thirteen yard line. It
looks like Green was in under that looks like twenty
looks like twenty five for the Addison Babbs Senior five
to nine one seventy. Bab's done a pretty good job

(39:18):
this year for the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
First and ten at the Viking thirteen, the Scott's driving
and Stover keeps it himself, goes to the outside, does
get wrapped up nice tackle there by no where Warwick, Yeah, no,
Worrick came and shot the gaff. I tried to run
a little option play and quarterback trying to keep the
ball and bounce it to the outside little keeper, but

(39:43):
to no avail.

Speaker 3 (39:45):
Picked up no gain.

Speaker 4 (39:46):
And right now I believe Highland's going to probably look
to try to loosen him back up again and catch
the River Valley secondary.

Speaker 3 (39:57):
Nap in here.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
Second down in ten, single back in the backfield, and
that's a.

Speaker 3 (40:05):
Reverse to number sixteen. That's newsome.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
He makes it to the ten the five and tackled
at the four yard line.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
That's a great call. Yeah, set River Valley up for that.

Speaker 4 (40:16):
Yeah, it wasn't a statue of liberty, but it was
pretty close to that. He faked the play that he
ran just a second ago, a play a go and
ran the reverse. Boy, this guy, coach Stover has a
place in my heart right now. Already. Real nice call,
probably the play call the game.

Speaker 2 (40:32):
So third down and one inside the five, and that
time it is a first down and it looks like
church he drug three Viking defenders into the end zone
for the touchdown.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
I'll tell you what that was all second, third, and
fourth effort. He wanted it.

Speaker 4 (40:50):
He smelled the goal line and he took it on
in and I'll tell you what Hyland looks really really
crisp tonight, Eric.

Speaker 3 (40:57):
They absolutely do.

Speaker 2 (40:59):
With six oh wait left in the first period, Highland
takes the leads six to nothing over River Valley on
the four yard church run and Highland made it look easy.
They made it look easy. So on the kick will
be mailon Fincher kick is up and that kick is good.

(41:27):
So with six oh eight left in the first period,
Highland on top seven to nothing over River Valley will
take a break. You're listening to high school football. In
fourteen ninety wmrinul.

Speaker 2 (42:43):
Kick off to River Valley and again that's Werwick. He
gets across the thirty five to the thirty seven yard
line and that's where River Valley will take over first
and ten down seven to nothing to Highland, and Highland
coach made that look awfully easy.

Speaker 4 (42:59):
Well, tell you what, Cooper Young, he not only came
to play, but he came to hit. That was a
big hit by him on that kickoff. Highland right now
just looks really really Chris and especially their defensive line.
Whether or not they can hold up to chasing Ebert
all night, we'll we'll find out here in a second.

Speaker 2 (43:19):
River Valley set up first and ten. Ebert back to
pass at his thirty. He goes down the sideline and
he's got a man open that's complete and out of
bounds to Luke ax line at the Highland I think

(43:39):
twenty five yard line, and River Valley goes right up
to the line of scrimmage.

Speaker 4 (43:44):
Like I said, we're gonna have a track meet tonight.
I don't think seven's gonna win it. Real fine play
first down, hit the ax line right down the sideline.

Speaker 2 (43:52):
So the Matthews Honaker first down, first and ten at
the Highland twenty five.

Speaker 3 (43:58):
Ebert with the ball now go.

Speaker 2 (44:00):
To the outside and threw the hands there for time.
A net brings up second down. Yeah, just a little
high there.

Speaker 4 (44:08):
Quarterback Ebert was a little anxious there what they're doing
and running three receivers or trips to the right and
running combination roots over here and two receivers over on
the left. That time he wanted to hit the inside
receiver on the out second and ten for the Vikings.
Ebert looks to the sideline and they try to change

(44:28):
the tempo up. This is something River Valley's done for
quite a while. Ebert gets the ball. Now he goes
to the other side of the end zone for ax
Line he had just back and I think that's a touchdown.
It is real nice pitch and catch there. I think
coaches are finding somebody to pick on over there on
that sideline.

Speaker 3 (44:49):
Actually I think that was Eli Snyder.

Speaker 2 (44:52):
Yeah, but with the reception for the touchdown, I'm trying
to see, is that a three or an eight threes
right here? Okay, so that is Luke Line for the touchdown.
A nice pass, yeah, real nice pitch and catch.

Speaker 4 (45:04):
And they didn't waste any time, probably only took about
a minute to score that. A few plays and now
Paulick in for the extra point to try to tie
this one up. If you're just turning in with five
thirty seven, Paulick getting a chance to tie it up,
and he.

Speaker 3 (45:20):
Does so the kick is good.

Speaker 2 (45:23):
So with five point thirty seven left in the first
River Valley answers back and that was a twenty five
yard touchdown pass from Chase Ebert to Luke axe Line
and Scott I'm gonna throw it down to you. It
looks like they found something out there on the outside

(45:44):
with axe Line and guys.

Speaker 14 (45:46):
To be honest, who's better at throwing a.

Speaker 29 (45:49):
Nice soft fade throw than Chase Ebert. He's got to
have that best throw in the conference by far. But
now defensively, we're switching toward to defense. You know, just
being down here on the field, it looks like, you know,
the soft zone or even spies that River Valley's playing,
they're almost kind of getting caught inside the box, and

(46:10):
so Hiland's been just running outside that box. Various plays
the reverse stover on the keep, and so Real's gonna
have to adjust a little bit. They must really respect
that up the gut play, but they're gonna have to
adjust that a little bit on defense and make some changes.

Speaker 4 (46:24):
Yeah, one of the things that want to mention defensively
River Valley. I know Ryan Green went out last week
with a little bit of an injuries back in the night,
but they're playing without Jackson codd Ile, who plays corner
for them, has done a really good job for them
six two, one seventy five. Uh Senior showed a lot
of leadership. He's out tonight, number seven. Honor Jennings Senior

(46:48):
five to eleven, two hundred running back.

Speaker 3 (46:50):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (46:51):
You know you're playing with a couple guys. Uh, especially
a couple leaders. Uh, you know it's gonna be somebody's
gonna have to step up for the bike.

Speaker 2 (47:00):
Pollock kits that kicks that out of the end zone.
So Hyland will take over first and ten at their
own twenty yard line. And yeah, there's both teams dealing
with some injuries right now. When talking to coach Waddle
before the game, he just said, you know, we've got
some of these guys that could play, but we want

(47:21):
to be smart with them because we know we may
have some more games to play past week ten, and
you don't want to take a risk. So he's trying
to get some of these backups in here and just
have them, you know, next man up mentality.

Speaker 4 (47:35):
Yeah, one of the things I think Hyland can do,
and I think they have the potential to keep the
ball a little bit. I think River Valley when they score,
they score very quickly. But Hyland uses the running game
and that's what they did on the last series. So
hopefully what they're thinking is to take some time off
the clock with the running over.

Speaker 2 (47:53):
Back to pass and he completes it up ahead to
the twenty five and that was toan Newsom who gets
ahead to the thirty in a Matthew's hont actor first down.

Speaker 4 (48:05):
Well, if you like real chrisp offensive play, this is
the game to watch. So if you're driving by River
Valley and you see the lights on, you want to
watch some good offense, come over and watch the game.
It's gonna be a really a lot of balls in
the air tonight. And both teams are playing very well offensively.

Speaker 2 (48:25):
Vikings playing their corners way off about ten yards. Handoff
goes to Church. He blows through the hole for nine
yards and that brings up a short second down.

Speaker 4 (48:35):
Yeah, that's Jackson Kloe on the tackle six four two
forty five and Church just drug him probably about six
seven yards.

Speaker 3 (48:44):
Church.

Speaker 2 (48:45):
He's a five ten, one hundred and eighty five pounds junior.
He runs like he's about two hundred and eighty five pounds.

Speaker 4 (48:53):
Yeah, and he had forty four carr He's coming in
the game only one hundred ninety eight yards, but he
had twenty five receptions in one touch or had three touchdowns,
so uh, you know he is he has been getting
a lot of playing time, so maybe this is going
to be his night to carry the rock.

Speaker 2 (49:11):
And he does again, and he does get the first
down up ahead to the forty five yard line. That's
Matthew Sondaker first down for the scotts.

Speaker 4 (49:18):
Well Vikings are so soft in the middle right now,
trying to play three man down and uh, well, I
tell you Stover is just taking what they're giving him,
and they're just running it right up the middle.

Speaker 3 (49:30):
Because the nice.

Speaker 4 (49:31):
Thing about Highland's attack is they mix it up pass
and run, and uh they're taking advantage of that soft middle.

Speaker 2 (49:40):
Church Loan in the backfield with Stover. Now he's back
to pass, he steps up and he is sacked. That
was a nice blitz from the outside by Harrison Bradley.

Speaker 4 (49:48):
Harrison Bradley, we've seen him like three times this year
and he's really impressed me. He's got the body as
a defensive end. Six three two ten and he's only
a junior. Somebody's gonna think look at him because he
is a very good football player on the outside as
a defensive end. Made a nice tackle on Stover's two

(50:10):
yard lost for Highlands. So second down and twelve from
their own forty three yard line, three twenty nine and counting,
the first period, game tied at seven. Man in motion
a little shovel forward and that's up ahead to new
So many fumbles, bub comes out and I think River
Valley's got it they do. Yeah, real nice hit there

(50:33):
on the outside. Big break for River Valley. This is
their opportunity. They came back, got some momentum back with
a touchdown. Looks like they've got it back even more.
They're gonna be getting lined up very quickly here and
keep Highland from getting anything.

Speaker 3 (50:49):
Really too sophisticated.

Speaker 4 (50:52):
Call referees are making sure that they can get out there,
and wow, what a change of possession. Normal teams will
go right at at the bomb or something, catch him
off guard. Colton Lang with the recovery four wide on
the top side, one down here underneath, and that goes
to Lang, who's that one wide receiver, and it's a

(51:13):
completion up ahead to the forty yard line. Yeah, they're
picking on number twenty one out here, Court Sears on
the outside laying one on one. Real nice timing pass
out was a pass they worked on all summer, just
playing pitching catch there.

Speaker 2 (51:30):
Ebert takes it himself across at forty up to the
thirty five thirty and.

Speaker 3 (51:34):
The delivers a hacked Oh my goodness gets it up ahead.
That was till the twenty four.

Speaker 4 (51:40):
That was quarterback to quarterback on that four against four
and Ebert may got the best of him on that and.

Speaker 3 (51:50):
Stover for Highland going, wow, you're not supposed to be
hitting like that. We're quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (51:55):
That's a Matthews Sondager first down and chase Ebert. He
came to some punishment tonight. Now Ebert runs again, goes
to the outside. He's tackled from behind after a pickup
of about one second down.

Speaker 4 (52:07):
Yeah, that was number sixteen. That was Newsome on the outside.
Is only a sophomore, but he's been involved in some plays.
He's own one hundred and forty pounds and showing a
lot of quickness out there.

Speaker 3 (52:17):
Caught Ebert from behind.

Speaker 2 (52:20):
So it's second down and about eight three or two
thirty one left in the first period, game tied at seven,
River Valley with the ball, Ebert back to pass again.
He's looking now, he steps up, goes to the outside,
and he is sacked.

Speaker 4 (52:36):
Here's Stover, quarterback from Highland, making the tackle in the backfield.
He gets him back a little bit. Wasn't as big
a hit, but it was a little more effective. And
Ebert loses about five to six yards on that particular play.

Speaker 2 (52:52):
So the ball is now back at the Highland thirty
one yard line, so third down and seventeen and Stover
plays safety, So that was a safety blitz, no doubt.
Ebert back to pass. Now another player breaks through. Now
Ebert gets to the right, he's looking looking at He

(53:13):
takes it up across twenty five to twenty fifteen and
out of bounds, close to a first down. And that
time Chase instead of trying to make something happen with
his arm, he saw the opening. He went straight down
the sideline and number.

Speaker 4 (53:27):
Nine Kine Stover early a sophomore, had Ebert dead to
rights there, but let him out of his grasp, and
Ebert made something happen. Big play for Ebert and Vikings
first down there knocking on the door once again.

Speaker 2 (53:43):
So that's a Matthew sondaktra a first down at the
Highland twelve yard line, single wide receiver on the near side,
a slot there, three wide on the top. Ebert gets
the ball's pressured again. Now he runs to his left,
he's back at his twenty five, throws it into the

(54:04):
corner and that is all just through the hands of
the intended receiver. That was axe line incomplete.

Speaker 4 (54:11):
He was running and there's Stover chasing him from the
left side and had a lineman chasing him. But I
think they're putting some pressure on Ebert. But I'll tell
you he gets out of trouble and just flicks it
down towards the corner of the end zone.

Speaker 3 (54:28):
I think it was a drop pass there. Second down
in ten.

Speaker 4 (54:34):
Stover showing him blitz over here on the outside.

Speaker 2 (54:40):
And you gotta feel like the defense keeps running around
like this, they're going to be tired by the middle
of the second period. Ebert back to pass it, throws
it low, just incomplete, and that was intended for laying
b third down, Let's throw down to Scott real quick.

Speaker 29 (54:58):
Scott, you can see all you want about spread offenses,
but that hit of Ebert on Stover, it was an
old school of both the lord shoulders, helmet, the helmet.

Speaker 14 (55:09):
Eber walked over him like an in one video.

Speaker 2 (55:12):
Huh, that's a very good analogy there, Scott looks start
here on the vikings.

Speaker 3 (55:20):
So first penalty of the game. We got a second here.

Speaker 4 (55:23):
I got a report from Colin Boyd over there watching
the Pleasant game, it looks like Pleasant jumped out to
a lead with a field goalder up over Gallion three
to nothing. And by the way, next week we will
be at Herding with Pleasant and Harding. So just a
little preview of next week's schedule.

Speaker 2 (55:42):
Third down and fifteen now for the Vikings, Ebert has
the ball blitz from the outside again, goes across the
middle and that is almost intercepted and a pass interference.
It looks like that was intended for Eli Snyder and
that's got to be a passer interference. And Ebert he

(56:03):
has been under pressure every play. I mean they are
sending somebody from everywhere.

Speaker 4 (56:10):
Yeah, I was trying to figure out what the interference.
Look I thought the Highland guy was in front of him,
but he may have reached, you know, age reached around
or had his hand on his hip or something. But
to no avail for Highland, they get the penalty, and
River Valley their drive still continues with one twenty one
to go, and if you're just tuning in, we've got

(56:32):
a tie score here seven to seven at River Valley.

Speaker 3 (56:35):
Really good ball game.

Speaker 2 (56:37):
So it is still third down, but the ball has
now moved inside the ten yard line to the nine,
so it'd be about third down and six for a
first down. Ebert looked over the sideline for the play call,

(56:59):
gets the ball and throws across the mill and it
looked like a little bit of a confusion or a
little confusion there on the outside. Lang stopped his route
and then it looked like Park was on the second level,
but Ebert was kind of throwing in between him, and
I think he was expecting one of them to kind
of cut in quicker.

Speaker 3 (57:19):
Yeah, no question about that.

Speaker 4 (57:21):
But they're lining up and they're not even hesitating with
the fourth down.

Speaker 2 (57:25):
And they have a kicker that could kick a field
goal here, but they're going for it fourth down and six.

Speaker 4 (57:31):
Maybe they're feeling like they're gonna have to match touchdowns tonight.
Possibly both kickers are pretty good for both teams, so
it could come down to that.

Speaker 2 (57:39):
Ebert runs it himself. He gets up ahead and he
is inside the five. He does have a Matthew Santagra
first down.

Speaker 4 (57:47):
Real good call there. There's no doubt that he was
going to keep the football. They've got everybody spread out
and that defensive line for Highland, they're thinking past pass pass.

Speaker 3 (57:59):
Ebert went right by.

Speaker 2 (58:03):
So actually they're saying that it's close enough for a measurement.
I thought he got all the way up to almost
the one yard line. They're placing it at just about
the three. Scott, I want to see what your angle was.

Speaker 3 (58:17):
What did you see there?

Speaker 29 (58:19):
Yeah, he really got held up when he started going down.
An extra backer came in and hit Ebert pretty high.
It guides it from I'm I mean I was standing
right here right in front of it.

Speaker 14 (58:30):
It looks short by a couple.

Speaker 29 (58:31):
Inches, but sometimes it just depends on how the chain
gang runs across the field.

Speaker 2 (58:36):
Right well, really, where they place it probably be the
biggest thing. But and it is just short. So Highland
takes over. So good news you stop River Valley from scoring.
Bad news, you're at your own three yard line. But
the way the Highland's been moving the ball, other than

(58:58):
the fumble, they got to feel like they can move
it down the field.

Speaker 3 (59:01):
Well, see both teams right now.

Speaker 4 (59:03):
I can feel the fact that both teams feel like they're.

Speaker 3 (59:06):
Playing very well.

Speaker 4 (59:08):
And uh, you know it's gonna be a game of
will who wants it the most at the end. And
coach Joel Wattall decided that he wanted more than three.
He didn't get it. So let's see what happens. They've
got Highland pinned down with one oh nine to go
on their own uh what three yard line? Two yard line,

(59:29):
and let's see if Hyland can uh can.

Speaker 3 (59:32):
Worm their way out of this one.

Speaker 2 (59:33):
Be interesting here because River Valley hasn't really put too
much pressure not blitz many people. As they hand the
ball off to Church, he gets across the five to
the six. So right there, it didn't look like River
Valley tried to blitzee linebackers up the mill.

Speaker 3 (59:48):
They just played straight up well.

Speaker 4 (59:49):
And the thing about Hyland is they're going to pass
the pass the ball, so they have to play. They
think they have to play the three man line. They're
gonna give a little bit defensive on the ground, but
they don't want to give up the big play offensively
in the air. But it's really helping Highland because they're
able to pick up first downs and move the football.

Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
Forty seconds left in the first period, game tied at seven,
second down four Highland and stover Looks and now he
passes across the mill complete. There is a penalty flag
down in the backfield, though my guests will be a hold.
It was completed up to Church and if it is
not a hold, that was up to the twenty two
yard line.

Speaker 4 (01:00:29):
Yeah, that was the hold was on number fifty two
for the nose. He was getting held Diego Sanchez, a
senior really playing inside on the nose there and boy,
I think two guys were holding him on that play.

Speaker 2 (01:00:42):
So it is a holding penalty for the Scots and
the ball will move back to the original Lias scrimmage
when this drive started to the three yard line, so
it'll be second down and ten.

Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
Yeah, it looks like they've moved Walton out to the
Sanchez is at the nose and number six that Bradley
is playing the other defensive end and he's in a
down position.

Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
Church alone in the backfield with Stover.

Speaker 2 (01:01:11):
They hand off to him and he gets stood up.
Nice job by the Vikings. There maybe a gain of
one and that will probably be how we end.

Speaker 3 (01:01:21):
This first period.

Speaker 2 (01:01:22):
So after one a ton of action here at River
Valley and the Matthews on acra A high school game
of the week. River Valley and Highland tied at seven.

Speaker 3 (01:01:32):
We'll be back.

Speaker 2 (01:01:33):
You're listening to high school football in fourteen ninety Wmrin.

Speaker 32 (01:01:38):

(01:02:01):
Ohio State.

Speaker 3 (01:02:13):
Plus.

Speaker 2 (01:02:13):
I think they welcome back to Matthew Sontaker a high
school game of the Week. As River Valley and Highland
tied at seven, Eric Mosley alongside coach John Couzio Scott
Cameron down the sideline.

Speaker 3 (01:02:32):
I'll tell you what.

Speaker 2 (01:02:35):
The public address announcer here is loud and he is excited.
Oh yeah, we were down in the press box two
weeks ago and he had me fired up to go
out and play. He was real excited for the vikings,
and as he should be. Absolutely so. It's third down
and eight for River Valley. It's not often where the

(01:02:57):
public dress announcer is so loud. I can't hear the
commercial that's playing. I didn't realize we were coming back,
so Stover takes it himself and he has tackled just
past the seven yard line. That was really just to
try to get out from the end zone for the punt. Well,
River Valley sitting in a pretty good position right here
defensively with Highland forcing to punt the football, and looks

(01:03:21):
like the deep back, which is Snyder, is standing it
at the forty yard line of Highland, so they're gonna
have real good field position here. Snap back kick is up,
not a very good kick comes down at the thirty
two and Sneyder takes it at the forty. Now he
takes it back across field and is tackled at the

(01:03:42):
thirty nine.

Speaker 4 (01:03:45):
I'll tell you Eric, number twelve, that's Stover, the other
brother he loves to hit number sixty six and number
forty four. Forty sixty six would be Mitchell and forty
four would be Walker. Those guys when they make a tackle,
they really make you feel it.

Speaker 2 (01:04:07):
Yeah, you can tell even from where we're sitting way
up here on top of the press box. There's a
lot of hard hitting going on in this game. And
we haven't seen Highland play this year, but we've seen
River Valley. We know that they are a physical team,
even being this spread team.

Speaker 3 (01:04:22):
They like to hit.

Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
But what we're seeing right now is Highland has no slouch.
They don't have a hard time hitting either. Yeah, we're
River Valley sitting in great field position here. Let's see
if they can get something going here to break the
ice here and break this tie up. First and ten
for the Vikings at the Highland forty yard line. Now
Ebert maybe changing the play. Ten seconds left on the

(01:04:45):
play clock. Ebert gets it one step, throws it complete
up to the thirty five and tackled at the thirty
yard line. That's Ian Axe line and that's closed. It
is a Matthews after a first down.

Speaker 4 (01:05:01):
Yeah, real quick pass there, and the defensive line looks
like they're slowing down just a little bit for Highland.

Speaker 2 (01:05:08):
Not much pressure on Ebert that time. Now Ebert back
to pass. He throws it out again complete and that's
to number ten Jaden McCullough. And that's a gain of
about eight yards up to the twenty two yard line.

Speaker 4 (01:05:24):
Yeah, Elliott Fisher on the coverage there, and River Valley
is just methodically two quick passes. Ebert just sitting back
like he's in a rocking chair. The big defensive line
is really I'll read off some of the heights and
waits to you here in a little bit, but boy,
they are big, big guys up front. Ebert back to
pass again, he gets it off and that's intercepted. And

(01:05:49):
that is Stover with the interception and just a not
a good pass, Eric, didn't you say? Coach Stover said
before the game, if they could get a couple turnovers,
they could really do some damage here in this game, right.
And I'll tell you what, that was a real hard
ball to catch for the young man defensively, but he
came up with the play.

Speaker 3 (01:06:11):
And this thing is going to go back and forth
all night long.

Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
And the thing I noticed their coach, the receiver didn't
come back for the ball.

Speaker 3 (01:06:20):
The defender did.

Speaker 2 (01:06:21):
And that's that's a coachable moment when you show that
on films, say hey, guys, look the defender came back
for the ball. If the receiver come back, that might
have been a catch.

Speaker 4 (01:06:30):
Well, you always teach your receivers going on and outpass
to go twelve back to ten or fourteen, back to twelve.
You always want them coming back towards the line.

Speaker 3 (01:06:38):
Of Wow, there's a hit old man Stover rolls out
completes the pass up ahead. That's number eighteen Snyder on
the hit there.

Speaker 2 (01:06:52):
That was their sixteen Newsome and Snyder just came out
and laid a pound of flesh.

Speaker 4 (01:06:58):
Yeah, they've got him at one hundred and seventy pounds,
but I'll tell you what, he had some leverage on
that six foot one seventy and he was like shot
out of a rocket to make the hit.

Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
Church with a big run up ahead across the thirty
yard line. That's enough for Matthews Hontaktor a first down
for the Scott Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:07:16):
And that's Walton coming from the defensive end position clear
over here on the left side, having to make the tackle,
kind of getting drug. It looks like Green's there at
the left defensive end and Walton they moved him back
inside to nose. They're trying to give Sanchez and Walton
a chance to play defense of nose.

Speaker 3 (01:07:34):
They're kind of alternating back and forth.

Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
Nine left until halftime at seven, and Church again gets
the handoff on a carry to the right side and
it's a good gain of four.

Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:07:45):
One thing about Church, Eric he's always leaning forward when
he gets tackled, picking up some nice yardage there for Highland.
And this is the kind of game they like to play.
They'll run the ball, take time off the clock, throw
a short pass, it's a completed pass, they still continue
to take time off the clock. And that's what you
have to do against River Valley.

Speaker 2 (01:08:07):
So make it again a six second down and four
at the Highland thirty six yard line. Stover keeps it
himself up across the forty and bomb comes out, and
I think River Valley's got it.

Speaker 3 (01:08:20):
They do.

Speaker 4 (01:08:22):
I'll tell you what I was just gonna say. Stover
coming up through there. He's not a real big kid
as far as size. He's very tall, but he comes
up through the traffic and just as I was thinking that,
he drops the football.

Speaker 3 (01:08:37):
And a lot of.

Speaker 4 (01:08:37):
It is because the way they're getting hit, they're really
putting some leather on these guys. And he's right again
back for River Valley. River Valley lines up, Ebert sitting
back there looks like five wide.

Speaker 2 (01:08:51):
Here we go first and ten for the Vikings at
the Highland forty yard line and a false start that
time looked like Jackson Kloa just took a step back
too soon.

Speaker 4 (01:09:05):
Well, he just got a little anxious there. But like
we said in the game, the games that we've done
with River Valley, it's first and ten second and ten
second and fifteen doesn't really matter. With their offense, they
can pick up first downs pretty much anytime they want.

Speaker 2 (01:09:19):
And it looks like Hiland more concerned now with playing
the coverage. You're seeing a lot more guys back right now,
not as many rushing.

Speaker 3 (01:09:30):
He got the inside guy spying on the quarterback.

Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
As the quarterback takes off atse ebra across the forty
five and tackled at the forty one yard line, a
good gain of about five yards there for Ebert.

Speaker 3 (01:09:42):
That's Elliott Fisher.

Speaker 4 (01:09:43):
He showed some really good speed Eric five nine, and
he came from the left side and ran Ebert down.
They really needed that because if Ebert gets loose, he's
going to be taken off again. And big play for
Highland Scott's eight thirty and until halftime. Game tied at seven,

(01:10:03):
second down and eleven for the Vikings. Now the defense
creeping up a little bit, Ebert back to pass, throws
it complete at the thirty five and tackled at the
thirty two. That's Eli Snyder and about a gain of
eight and now'll be third and short.

Speaker 3 (01:10:25):
Well designed play.

Speaker 4 (01:10:26):
They had the two receivers out here on the inside
going down. One was actually setting a screen for the
other one and picked up a nice play for River Valley.

Speaker 2 (01:10:35):
Ebertt rolls to his left and now takes off and
is across the thirty and they're saying out at the
twenty nine, that's an up for Matthews Sondagra first down.

Speaker 4 (01:10:44):
Well, when Ebert this is one of the times that
we've seen him run in.

Speaker 3 (01:10:50):
The Pleasant game.

Speaker 4 (01:10:51):
I don't believe he really ran that much, but in
this one they're expecting him to run. The field's in
great condition despite the rain we had a couple of
weeks ago when we were here, and it's dried out
and real fast track tonight. Well, and you have to
figure Ebert's the type of quarterback. He'll take what you
give him. Against Pleasant, they were trying to keep him

(01:11:14):
from running, so he just stepped back and passed, and
he goes back to pass here complete to Snyder up
ahead to the twenty one yard line. That's a gain
of about eight. Yeah, Snyder. They've been working together a
long long time and they just run down and break
it to the outside.

Speaker 3 (01:11:32):
Hebert knows exactly where he's going to be.

Speaker 4 (01:11:34):
They're running the same pattern to the right as they
did to the left a couple of plays ago. Two
receivers in the slot position. They're going to run a
combo route out there. The one receiver will screen for
the other one who will cut back inside. That's what
they did the last time. Let's see if they do
it again.

Speaker 2 (01:11:50):
Ebert throws a swing pass complete to Park up to
the twenty and tackled at about the seventeen yard line
we'll say eighteen yard line, but an up for Matthews
Hondagra first down.

Speaker 3 (01:12:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:12:03):
At that time, they set number eighty five for rally
Eli Axe line six one five. He's a tight end
playing out there. All he did was go down and
screen and they ran a quick screen out to uh Snyder.

Speaker 3 (01:12:16):
Real well, really good design.

Speaker 2 (01:12:18):
Play first and ten at the Highland seventeen yard line.
River Valley knocking on the door right now for another score.
Ebert gets the ball. Now they go to the corner
of the end zone and that's Axe.

Speaker 3 (01:12:34):
Lining against feet down. He did back in the back
the end zone, did a little tiptoe to the Tulips.
It gets the touchdown for the Vikings. Well, i'll tell
you what.

Speaker 4 (01:12:45):
The referee back on the back end line was there
watching his feet the guy running down. The referee running
down the sideline couldn't see the feet, he saw the
hands and right away called touchdown. So probably no doubt
that's what it was. They only had to get one
foot down. Really nice excellent throw, perfect catch and Vikings

(01:13:10):
go up now thirteen seven.

Speaker 2 (01:13:13):
And that's the second touchdown reception for ax Line as
the extra point is up and good. So the Vikings
take the lead fourteen to seven over Highland. We got
a great game here for the Matthew Sondiactrick Game of
the Week. We'll take a break. When we come back,
we'll have the rest of the second period. You're listening

Speaker 2 (01:14:40):
Mack here at River Valley is they kick the ball
off into the end zone and River Valley with the
lead at the six thirty eight mark, fourteen to seven
over Highland.

Speaker 3 (01:14:51):
Scott.

Speaker 2 (01:14:52):
You were right down there on that touchdown reception. Tell
us what you saw.

Speaker 29 (01:14:57):
Well, you know what it really looks like is early
on the game we were talking about the pressure that
Highland had and it almost looked like Rever Valley justin
they shortened up their routes. They were playing a more
of a closer kind of game, and so Highland kind
of had to respect that. And so Rever Valley justin
really well to Highland's defensive pressure early and kind of

(01:15:18):
the untold thing here, guys. You know, Hiland gets the
ball back second half to start off. So that was
a really big score for River Valley to go up
by a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
No doubt about it. First and ten for the Scots
at their own twenty. Stover completes it to the outside
up to the twenty five and down to the thirty.

Speaker 3 (01:15:36):
I think that was to Newsom.

Speaker 4 (01:15:38):
No, that's not Newsome, that is Sears Sears Court Sears
Senior five, ten point eight five. Really nice run after
the catch, Eric, Yeah, absolutely, that's enough for Matthews Hondaker
first down up to the thirty yard line. Yeah, River
Valley had a hard time bringing him down. He was
kind of moving his feed and keep and kept going

(01:16:00):
and real fine play. Plenty of time for Highland six
twelve to go. They're down seven in the second quarter.
And I'll tell you, this is a fun game. If
you didn't care who won, this would be a fun
game to watch. Stover hands it off to Church.

Speaker 2 (01:16:17):
He gets a big hole up ahead to the forty
and that's a gain of thirteen and another Matthews hont
Akra first down to the forty three yard line.

Speaker 4 (01:16:26):
Another coach's son, Wattle, makes it out there inside linebacker.
I haven't mentioned it that he has one hundred and
two tackles coming into this game. He's adding to that tally.
But the young man has played a lot of good
football for River Valley over the years and he deserves
that accolades there, and that really came from the inside

(01:16:47):
linebacker to position to make that tackle.

Speaker 2 (01:16:50):
He got a figure that Hyland wants to take some
time here score and not give River Valley time on
the clock, and then they can double dip and maybe
score first. In the second half, hand off to Church,
he's across the thirty five or excuse me, forty five
up to the forty six yard line again of about four.

Speaker 4 (01:17:07):
I'm really impressed with the way Highland. We got to
give these guys some props. You got Anthony on the line, Baird, Mallins,
Markham and Taylor. Those guys are really pushing River Valley
defensive line back and really the running backs getting to
the linebacker depth very quickly.

Speaker 2 (01:17:30):
Second down and seven at the Highland forty six yard line.
Scott's moving the ball efficiently again, stack wide receivers on
the near side. Now Stover stepping up gets it across,
complete and taken down at the River Valley forty two
yard line. That's to Church and that's another Matthew sontactra

(01:17:54):
first down.

Speaker 4 (01:17:54):
Very impressed, very impressed with Church tonight running the football.

Speaker 3 (01:17:59):
Real fine athlete.

Speaker 4 (01:18:00):
Now he's catching the football and Zach Church no wonder
twenty five receptions and one touchdown with a catch. He's
got three touchdowns rushing with forty four carries this year.
So he's a kid that they're really going to go
to in both the air and on the ground.

Speaker 2 (01:18:18):
And they're not even really running any play action, which
with the run game you would think they might. That
time Stover fakes the handoff but gets tackled, does dive
ahead for about a yard second down.

Speaker 4 (01:18:30):
Yeah, that was Snyder on the tackle. And also number
twenty five, that was bab came up from the outside
and did boy, I'll tell you Stover really put his
shoulder down there to pick up he That was a
tough two yards for him to pick up. But you
got to give him credit. He's willing to take the
hit for his team.

Speaker 2 (01:18:49):
Well, I'm watching the play calls coming in, not knowing
exactly how they do things for their offense. I think
they're giving him a couple different options as a run
pass option the time or who if he's going to
hand it off or not. But I think he pretty
much calls the play from the line back to pass
the stover. Now, just a little swing out to Church

(01:19:09):
up ahead to the forty and he gets tackled after
a nice gain all the way up to the thirty
four yard line.

Speaker 4 (01:19:16):
Yeah, Church come took axe line on and leaned forward
and picked up quite a bit there, pretty much on
his own up there. Took three vikings to finally bring
him down, setting the Scots up with a third and
less than a yard to go here. I'll tell you
you don't see too many quarterbacks like this play. Also

(01:19:37):
safety who are very active on there against the run
and stover. I'll tell you has impressed me as a
real gutsy kid, hard nosed kid.

Speaker 2 (01:19:46):
Third and one and the hand off to Church and
he gets the first down and more all the way
up to the twenty four yard line. That's about a
gain of ten yards and Matthews hondiaktra first down.

Speaker 4 (01:19:56):
We mentioned the offensive line from Highland. We talk about
how offensive line can control a game, and you mentioned
the fact they want to take time off the clock
and hopefully for them, they want to score. At the
end of this two thirty six to go, the clock's running,
they're not in really a big hurry. They seemed like
they feel like they're in control in the thirty yard
or the twenty nine yard line, plus getting the ball

(01:20:18):
in the second half.

Speaker 2 (01:20:20):
So they line up first and ten Church in the
backfield with Stover. Now a reverse again to Newsome across
the twenty five and River Valley does a much better
job of picking that up, and a penalty flag comes
in and I think it may.

Speaker 3 (01:20:36):
Be a hole.

Speaker 4 (01:20:37):
Yeah, the guy came up and got Snyder there on
the outside, and Snyder did a pretty good job of
throwing his arms up to call attention to it.

Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
But it was called.

Speaker 4 (01:20:50):
And Highland now with a little bit of adversity on
this drive with the clock stopped to thirteen to go,
and it's going to be a first down, but it's
going to be first and what first eighteen?

Speaker 3 (01:21:05):
Is it eight? That was from the spot of the foul, Yeah,
about eighteen.

Speaker 4 (01:21:07):
Eighteen, So this could that was a big break for
River Valley for Highland to make that mistake. And let's
see if River Valley's defense can keep Highland out of
the end zone.

Speaker 2 (01:21:21):
So it's first and twenty. It's actually a ten yard penalty.
So ball all the way back at the River Valley
thirty four yard line, two minutes left until halftime, play action.
That's a nice completion across the middle and they get
back everything and more. And that's to Reichenbach, who we

(01:21:44):
haven't heard much from Tony. All the way up to
the sixteen yard line. Second down in short.

Speaker 4 (01:21:49):
Yeah, Reckon buck six four one seventy five has got
a lot of range, came in there on that slant
pass and picked up a few more yards after the catch.

Speaker 2 (01:22:00):
Second down and two arch drives ahead, gets the first
down and has tackled at the ten yard line. Matthew
Hondaker first down for the.

Speaker 4 (01:22:09):
Scott Highland doing whatever they want to do offensively against
River Valley. The only thing that slowed him down was
that penalty, and their offensive staff over there is really
doing a nice job of mixing it up, pass.

Speaker 3 (01:22:23):
And run on this drive. Throw down to Scott real quick, Scott, Yeah, I.

Speaker 29 (01:22:28):
Was talking to coach Stover about the RPO being institute
last year after Dane left, and so he said they've
been working really hard on that and Stober clubs cutting
over to the left right in front of me on
the nine yard line that he was talking about life
after Dane and what did that look like? If you
don't know who Dane Nauman is just one and more
productive players in the conference. Really, and he said, yeah,

(01:22:52):
we've been working a lot on RPOs. What that looks
like this year? And guys like you said, he's leaving
himself play of options, we're distributor to keep them and
Iland's moving down the field.

Speaker 3 (01:23:03):
Thanks Scott.

Speaker 2 (01:23:04):
And on that Carrie Stover only gets a about two yards,
so bring up second down and not actually only a
yard second down and nine under a minute left and
a time out taken. So you know, coach, that's a
very good point that Scott brought up that Coach Stover said,
the RPOs and having to experience quarterback like that, uh,

(01:23:26):
and not only experience, but the coach's son. If anybody
knows this offense very well. It would probably be him.

Speaker 3 (01:23:33):
Yeah, I tell you, the coach.

Speaker 4 (01:23:35):
When you have a coach's son, you know, you're sitting
around the dinner table, and I know maybe mom doesn't
want to hear a lot of football all the time,
but she may have no choice, not have any choice.
But uh, there's something about the coach's son being the
quarterback that just has that uh, that instinct to know
what to do and when the coach coaches in and

(01:23:58):
he's able to do it.

Speaker 3 (01:23:59):
But I tell you, I'm very impressed. Go back to this.

Speaker 4 (01:24:02):
He's throwing the football well, he's running well, and he's
playing really good defense also, so he's really a fine
player for Highland.

Speaker 2 (01:24:09):
Second and goal for Highland back to passes Stover, he
rolls to his left and now he throws it and
as a complete for the touchdown.

Speaker 4 (01:24:18):
He could have he could have run the football eric,
but he chose to get to six points and I
believe he hit number sixteen Newsome. That's Newsome right there
over the middle on the slant. Real fine play. I
tell you what, I'm real impressed with Stover tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:24:34):
So with forty three seconds left in the period, a
nine yard pass from Stover to Newsome, and that makes
the score at River Valley fourteen, Highland thirteen. And Hyland
pretty much did exactly what they wanted to do there,
take as much time as possible and score before the

(01:24:56):
half and not leave River Valley much time. Snap back
kick is up and that kick is good. So now
we are tied at fourteen here at River Valley. And
you know, coach, we we hadn't seen Highland before tonight,
but we knew obviously, we knew how good of a
quarterback Stover was because we've seen him play. We knew

(01:25:20):
that they had lost a really good running back in
Dan Nauman.

Speaker 3 (01:25:25):
That was about it.

Speaker 2 (01:25:26):
What I'm seeing as an offense that if they wanted to,
they could be really balanced, but they really just do
whatever the you know, everything goes on what the defense
gives them.

Speaker 4 (01:25:37):
Well, this is the best three and four football team
I've seen all year. And of course River Valley shot
themselves in the foot a couple of times, I think,
once with a fumble and once with an interception. And
you know, they haven't really got stopped either by high
and they stopped himself a couple of times, so you know,

(01:25:57):
that's the thing coach Waddle has, you know, been saying
all along, we've got to quit making turnovers and we've
got to quit making dumb mistakes that way, and also penalties.
And uh, I think it's whoever has the ball lasting
This one's gonna win, obviously, because River Valley has got
to stop turning the ball over because Highland's not stopping them,

(01:26:22):
and really, River Valley's not stopping Highland.

Speaker 2 (01:26:25):
That kickoff a little squib, It is taken and dropped on,
almost juggled at the thirty one yard line, and that.

Speaker 3 (01:26:37):
Was taken by Werwick.

Speaker 2 (01:26:39):
So forty two seconds left, and you've got an offense
in River Valley that can move the ball quickly. They
scored a touchdown on three plays and less time than this,
So you got to figure they're going to take a
couple of shots.

Speaker 3 (01:26:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:26:53):
I don't think they're gonna kneel down here. They're gonna
do what they can and try to get the ball
down the field, maybe get in position for a field goal,
because Pollock is a real fine field goal kicker.

Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
No backs in the backfield next to Ebert. Ebert back
to pass, he's looking, starts to step up now rolls
out to his right, he's chased by two defenders. It
completes it up to the thirty five and clock still runs.
River Rally calls the time out.

Speaker 4 (01:27:25):
Yeah, receivers has got to get out of bounds in
this situation, save yourself a timeout, Eric.

Speaker 2 (01:27:32):
And I believe that was complete to axe line. So
thirty two seconds left, game tied at fourteen, and it
is a is a barn burner here, which we knew
it would be. And there's a lot of good games
going on right now in the area. Let's go ahead

(01:27:56):
and look at a few scores right now. Gallion up
over Pleasant ten to three at halftime. Ontario seventeen, Harding seven.
In the second period, Winford fourteen, b Cyrus nothing, Upper
Sedusky's up over Mohawk ten to nothing. North Union twenty six,
Ben Logan thirteen, Northmore ten, Mount Gilliad seven. That's in

(01:28:18):
the second period. Carry and Carl Crawford are tied at
sevens and Upper side of Valley six, Elgin nothing at
the half, Corey Ross and three Ridgdale nothing. River Valley
lines up second and five at their own thirty six
thirty two seconds left until halftime. Hebert with the ball,

(01:28:40):
throws it in a seam pattern across the mill and
almost taking in just out of the hands of the net.
He had it, but there were two defenders coming in there.
As soon as he got hit, it was dropped. Yeah,
we guard number fifty two.

Speaker 4 (01:28:52):
Linebacker really put a shot on him and made him
cough the ball up never really made the catch and
kind of separated him from the ball as it hit
his hands. So real fine play by the linebacker. Third
and five, three wide receivers near side.

Speaker 2 (01:29:13):
Now two up top is they move into a little
bit wider position. Throws to the outside, complete up to
the fifty five and out of bounds at the shoes.
Excuse me, forty five agaret bounds of the fifty that's
a Matthews hondaker. First down to Colton Lang and right
at midfield.

Speaker 4 (01:29:33):
Well, Lang had a really fine game against Pleasant, came
in and stepped in with one of the other park
was got injured early in the game. You got to
watch him because he's a gamer. So they put it
out at the forty nine. So just in front of
midfield for the vikings. Twenty three seconds left. Clock has
stopped first and ten again we are tied at fourteen.

(01:29:54):
Here at River Valley.

Speaker 3 (01:29:55):
Highland in that infamous prevent defense.

Speaker 2 (01:29:58):
Ebert back to pass, now rolls he's got some time now.
He takes off down the sideline and he is out
of bounds at the forty six yard line. Clock stops
fourteen seconds left.

Speaker 4 (01:30:12):
Yeah, that's Cane Stover on the tackle knocks Ebert out
of bounds. River Valley with fourteen point eight seconds. Anything
can happen here. He could throw it up. They've got
a time for at least two more plays.

Speaker 2 (01:30:27):
And River Valley does have the wind of their backs.
Second down and five. Now it looks like Hiland going
to bring pressure off the outside.

Speaker 3 (01:30:37):
They do.

Speaker 2 (01:30:38):
Ebert steps up and he's got plenty of room to run,
and now he goes down at the thirty five time out,
taking eight point five seconds left, and River Valley with
the Matthews Hondaker first down.

Speaker 4 (01:30:52):
Let's see if coach Waddle is going to try to
get that three points back he had a chance to
get in the first quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:31:01):
It'd be a long kick from now.

Speaker 4 (01:31:03):
He's got time for one quick out play and then
or whether or not he might go go for the downs.
If he goes for the touchdown, he could have time
for another play. But if he goes for an out
to get it, pick up a first down, get out
of bounds, they can bring Paulock in to kick the
field goal. So let's see what coach and his staff

(01:31:26):
decide to do here with eight point five seconds to go, be.

Speaker 2 (01:31:30):
I think about a that'd be about a forty five
yard kick. I think, I mean that would be that'd
be a crazy kick. But with the winner of their backs,
I think you take one shot to the end zone
now and then then if you have some time left,
you can make a decision. Are we going to go

(01:31:52):
ahead and go for the touchdown? We try to kick
the field goal. So first and ten, eight point five
seconds left until halftime, no backs in the backfield with
Ebert eighty five going down the middle, there's a completion
and out of bounds at the first down marker to
lang So at the thirty five that's a Matthews honaker

(01:32:15):
first down, three point two seconds left. Let's see if
he Let's see I'm watching coach right now, and he's
he's thinking about it. I think he's going to take
a time out. He had a chance to uh kick
a field goal. When he went for the first down
in the first quarter and didn't get it, didn't get

(01:32:37):
the first down, so he's thinking about, maybe I can
get that field goal back, but I really think.

Speaker 3 (01:32:43):
That he would rather have a touchdown here.

Speaker 2 (01:32:45):
So six seconds left on the time I play clock
and Ebert runs it up the middle and now down
and there's no time left on the clock.

Speaker 3 (01:32:55):
Wow. What in the world. I don't know what that was.
I don't know that was.

Speaker 4 (01:33:03):
That was a kind of strange there on that call.
So the coach is talking to maybe maybe he missed
missed the uh actual play and Hebert Hebert check he
had too far to go with only three seconds.

Speaker 2 (01:33:20):
So I think what I'm guessing is that coach probably
wanted him.

Speaker 3 (01:33:26):
To Scott don't talk to coach right now.

Speaker 2 (01:33:29):
Scott don't talk to him, so he probably won't talk
to him. Wanted to move to the middle of the field,
give him a break, and uh just kind of kind
of you know, go down. Yeah, coach went over to Scott. Okay, okay,
all right, so we'll go down to Scott. Scott take
it away.

Speaker 14 (01:33:49):
Yeah, Matt and I are friends now, so he's coming
to order to see me.

Speaker 29 (01:33:52):
Coach You know, Hyland was putting a lot of pressure
of getting in the backfield on you early. What adjustments
did you make offensively to kind of quill some of
that pressure they're putting on.

Speaker 37 (01:34:02):
Yeah, they were bringing guys from the outside that we
just need to communicate and make sure we were getting
those guys picked up. And that's that's pretty much all
it was.

Speaker 29 (01:34:09):
Yeah, you know, it seems like two great offenses for
as much offense as there was a lot of turnovers,
but a pretty clean game. Was that was that kind
of surprising for you to have these great offenses yet
there's been some great defensive plays too.

Speaker 36 (01:34:23):
Well.

Speaker 37 (01:34:23):
Yeah, I mean we I think we've made some mistakes
more than they've made defensive plays. We've kind of shot
ourselves in the foot in that first half. So we
just got to clean up the mistakes. Our defense is
getting to the ball and creating the turnovers.

Speaker 29 (01:34:36):
Ken Highland, come coming out, gets the ball. What's your
message your defense coming out?

Speaker 14 (01:34:40):
We got to come out and get a stop.

Speaker 37 (01:34:42):
We can't allow them to control the clock here, come
down and put a point on the board, and we
got to get the ball and we gotta we gotta
do what we need to do to get points ourselves.

Speaker 14 (01:34:53):
Right, thanks, coach.

Speaker 2 (01:34:55):
All right, So at halftime, game tied at fourteen all,
and you know, coach, it's been We've seeing a little
bit of everything.

Speaker 3 (01:35:05):
Really.

Speaker 2 (01:35:06):
We've seen, you know, some crazy turnovers. We've seen a
lot of yards. Probably not that I didn't expect Hyland
to run the ball, but they've run the ball a
lot more than I thought they would. And it's it's
shown me that they are an offense that just takes
what the defense will give them.

Speaker 4 (01:35:22):
Well, Church is very strong runner inside for Highland, and
River Valley's playing that three man front and they're really
soft in the middle there, and they're just going at
them and uh and Church is really doing a nice job.
Stover's doing a nice job on the fake and on
the keeper. And they also ran a couple reverses. One

(01:35:43):
they got called back picked up yardage on the hold.
But the other one, the first one they ran, was
a real nice play. I'll tell you, this is a
really good, really good called game by Highland. They know
they have to shorten the game and keep the ball
out of River Valley's hands. You heard coach Waddle there,
he he You know it's obvious. They kept shooting. They
shot themselves in the foot a couple of times. Highland

(01:36:05):
didn't stop him those two times. They they you know,
they had an opportunity maybe to kick a field goal,
they went for the touchdown.

Speaker 3 (01:36:12):
And I don't fall coach for that. He you know,
he's try he knows it.

Speaker 4 (01:36:16):
It's going to be a high scoring game and they're
gonna have to match touchdowns, so he went for that,
and uh, they they do have to take care of
the football. The second the interception that that wasn't really
Ebert's fault.

Speaker 3 (01:36:29):
That was just a real fine defensive play.

Speaker 2 (01:36:32):
Yeah, and I think that, uh, you know, really, Highland
could probably say the same thing. It's not that River
Valley stopped him on offense. It was it was that
that they kind of shot themselves in the foot more
than anything. And uh, you know River Valley, River Valley

(01:36:53):
and Highland, their offenses can say pretty much the same thing.

Speaker 4 (01:36:55):
Yeah. I mean, uh, this thing's back and forth, and
there's a really kind of a chess match. River Valley
can score a lot quicker than Hyland, but Hyland has
found a formula to you know, move the ball on
the ground, and that's exactly what they're doing. And I really,
like I said, I've mentioned several times we've we've given

(01:37:17):
Ebert a lot of credit for everything that he's done.
But I'll tell you what, Stover has really impressed me
with the fact that he's able to run the football,
he's able to pass the football, making really good decisions.

Speaker 3 (01:37:29):
And the thing is he's playing both ways.

Speaker 4 (01:37:32):
And while you don't see too many guys and he's
not like he's a safety just standing back there watching
the game, he comes up on a safety blitz and
he actually he got run over by Hubert on that
one and he took a hit. But I'll tell you what,
he's a hard nosed kid and he's really playing a
good game tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:37:50):
Yes he is. Well, we're going to take a break.

Speaker 2 (01:37:52):
When we come back, we'll go over the first half
scoring and talk about some of the scores in the
games in the area. But again here at halftime at
River Valley, score is Tide River Valley Island fourteen. All
you're listening to high school football on fourteen ninety. WMRN

It was in my hometown and I was driving around

came on and I kind of thought it was a
CD for a second, and my sister told me that
it was actually on the radio on our like big

kind of like mesmerized for a second is kind of

Hi on Brickshields. I've had a lot of different jobs,

that's more important than all the others, being a mom.
It's the most difficult and rewarding job I've ever had.
It's also a big responsibility. I'm teaching my daughters to
be strong and independent so they can successfully navigate their
own life journey, and I'm protecting their future by having

life insurance. Just like my mom. I'd give the world

isn't anything I was taught growing up. It's a lesson
I learned on my own and want to share with you.
Getting life insurance might feel scary or like it's something
other people do, but once you get it, it's done

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.

Speaker 3 (01:48:01):
Back here at River Valley High School.

Speaker 2 (01:48:03):
The Matthew Sindiakria High School Game of the Week featuring
River Valley and Highland, and we are tied here fourteen
all Eric Moseley alongside coach John Couzio Scott Cameron on
the sidelines. Let's go through the scoring if you missed it.
In the first half at the six oh eight mark,

(01:48:24):
Highland struck first with a four yard touchdown run after
driving down really well on their first series, and that
four yard touchdown run by Zach Church Pat was good
and made it Highland seven River Valley nothing. But River
Valley struck back, and struck back quick, only took about

(01:48:48):
thirty seconds, and River Valley responded with a twenty five
yard touchdown pass to axe Line. Pat was good, tied
the score.

Speaker 3 (01:49:02):
At seven all.

Speaker 2 (01:49:06):
Then six point thirty eight left in the second quarter,
River Valley was able to take a lead on a
seventeen yard touchdown pass and again Luke axe Line with
that reception Pat was good and that gave River Valley
a fourteen to seven lead. But then when forty three
seconds left until halftime, Highland had a nice sustained drive

(01:49:31):
and had a nine yard touchdown pass from Colton Stover
to Branson Newsom. Point after was good, and that's where
we're at fourteen all. River Valley did have a chance.
They drove down, time just ran out before they could
try to get points on the board. So we are

(01:49:53):
tied here at fourteen all at River Valley. And you know, coach,
we talked to about it in the first half that
this this game. You know, River Valley sits at four
and three, Highland sits at three and four. Overall, they're
both two and two in the conference. Looking at these
offenses and then how hard these defenses are both hitting,

(01:50:17):
you would think that both of these teams were playing
for a league title in this game.

Speaker 4 (01:50:21):
Yeah, I'm very impressed with We've seen River Valley this
or what third time, and we know what they can do.
But you know, we've we've we know that Highland's lost
some games, but I'm like, Wow, these guys are crisp
and sharp tonight.

Speaker 3 (01:50:36):
They're playing with a lot of heart.

Speaker 4 (01:50:39):
You know, I've talked about Stover how he's really played
well offensively and then he comes in and mixes it
up defensively as a safety, and it's it's kind of
remarkable that they've lost four games. And of course they
could be like River Valley, who where they've played three
undefeated teams and those are three of their losses, so
you just don't know. But Highland came to play tonight.

(01:51:02):
They got up for River Valley. They came crisp and
sharp and right now, the thing that's impressed me is
the way they're able to run the football against River Valley.
River Valleys has that three man front, and you know
that puts a lot of pressure on those inside linebackers
for River Valley to come up in stuff that especially Church.

Speaker 3 (01:51:21):
Church is a strong back, and.

Speaker 2 (01:51:23):
I think there's there's probably some that would hear while
they're running three man in front, why don't they just
moved to a four man or five man.

Speaker 3 (01:51:30):
The defense is set up.

Speaker 2 (01:51:31):
For what is what works well for River Valley. They've
got really good defensive backs, they've got good linebackers, They've
got a lot of players that can play those positions.
The defense is set up for their strengths. That's not
to say that their defensive line is not strong, but
they're stronger at linebacker and defensive back, and it does
put a strain and those of us that are kind

(01:51:54):
of old school who used to running a four to
four defense or a five to two, it makes sense.
But I think River Valley runs that because that's where
their strengths are.

Speaker 4 (01:52:04):
Well, and that's where Highland's strength is. They can pass
and run, so they you know, they game plan. The
defensive coaches obviously of game plan and thinking that they
could stop the run because they didn't think they would
maybe be as effective. But you know, they did drop
their ends. We talked about it after that one series,

(01:52:25):
and they had a good defensive stance. They had a
a second and short, third and short, and they were
able to stop River Valley by dropping the defensive ends
inside and bringing their line outside linebackers up make it.

Speaker 3 (01:52:37):
Look like a fifty look and was very effective.

Speaker 4 (01:52:40):
Well, if it was third and fifteen, they're not going
to be in that because they don't have enough defensive
backs to cover all the receivers are going to be
out in the field, and so they have to they
have to do what it's kind of a kind of
a hybrid defense. To where they have to stop the
pass and the run Highland on the one hand. On
the other hand, they have to stop River Valley's passing

(01:53:03):
attack number one. But they've got to find a way
to corral Ebert. And he's he's been able to get
out and do what he can run in the football
when he has heard hot in a few times.

Speaker 2 (01:53:12):
Well, and I think that's what's been difficult for Hyland.
They came in with a very aggressive game plan on defense,
you could tell, and they were putting a ton of
pressure on Ebert. But anytime you put that much pressure
on your you're counting on getting sacks. I think they
only had one actual sack. They did pressure him, they
made him move, but one thing about Ebert, if he

(01:53:32):
moves in the pocket, he still feels comfortable, and then
you're wearing your defense out. So it is a it's
a catch twenty two. It's an aggressive defense. I don't
I definitely understand why they ran it, but they not
being able to catch him I think made it difficult
for that defense to stay in that type of defense. Yeah,
and the River Valley has a really good quick passing game,

(01:53:54):
so that when they want to give Ebert a break
and not want to go deep. They have some combination
routes when they go into trips to the one side
or the other to be able to run sort of
like I call them screenplays, but they are kind of
like the swing mass the pig pass plays where they'll
run the receiver down and then maybe run the quick
screen which they did to Snyder, and then the other

(01:54:15):
one where they ran the receiver down and then the
other receiver cut off of him, and those are all
legal plays and they are very well designed plays.

Speaker 4 (01:54:23):
So River Valley has a really nice passing attack with
some somewhat sophisticated plays that they make look pretty simple.

Speaker 2 (01:54:33):
So when we're out at River Valley, this will be
the last time we're here in the regular season this season.

Speaker 3 (01:54:38):
Whenever we're out at.

Speaker 2 (01:54:39):
River Valley and we enjoy, we love all of the
everything that all the schools do. We try to partake
in the concession stands. We like to get some popcorn
and all that. But whenever we come to River Valley,
we always all three of us have to get the
chicken and noodles. It is some of the best chicken
and noodles. I don't know who's recipe it's based on

(01:55:03):
and I like giving credit to every school because they
take care of us so well. But man, the chicken
and noodles out here are something to look forward to. Yeah,
And a night like tonight, it's not a cold night,
but it's a cool night, very comfortable out here. We
got a little slight breeze and we're up on the
press box top tonight. Two weeks ago we were down underneath.

(01:55:25):
They were gracious enough to let us come and do
the game when we had the kind of the hard
rains and we were the only ones out here that night.

Speaker 3 (01:55:34):
Able to do that.

Speaker 4 (01:55:35):
We were able to sit down with the other guys
that are running the game clock and score a scoreboard
and so on and so forth. So yeah, we like
to tip our hats of Rear Valley. They're always hospitable
to us and we appreciate that. Yeah, and we you know,
getting close to the end of the regular season, we'll
probably say it a few times, but definitely want to
say it now. We appreciate the hospitality of every school.

(01:55:59):
What these schools allow us to come and do, to
bring these games to all of you who can't be here,
maybe just you know, aren't able to get out for
the night, and you want to support these teams. These
schools have made it so comfortable for us to be
able to do that, and the ads.

Speaker 2 (01:56:17):
That we work with are amazing. Sage out here, she's new,
you know, this is her first year as AD and
she's been wonderful. And I think I should have a
basketball schedule done here real soon. I've got every school
except for one. But again, the ads take care of
us and they make sure that we're taking care of

(01:56:40):
Marion County is blessed with really great high schools and
you know, no matter who your favorite one is or
who where you went to school, you can be proud
of all the high schools in Marion County. Yeah, and
also tip our hats off to the coaches in these teams.
On Wednesday nights, we do the Football Friends Ralfie's and

(01:57:01):
we didn't have it this week. Just didn't work out.
But hopefully next week we're gonna be doing doing the
Football Friends.

Speaker 3 (01:57:08):
We will be doing the Football Frenzy.

Speaker 2 (01:57:11):
Unfortunately, I had a work commitment in Las Vegas this week,
and I know everybody, yeah, I know everybody listening goes
a working gate. That's a tough call. Trust me, Vegas
is great. It made me appreciate Maryan even more. I
couldn't wait to get back so and I couldn't wait
to get back to this. We have halftime over River

(01:57:33):
Valley will be kicking off to Highland, and we've got
twenty four minutes to figure out who's going to come
out on top.

Speaker 3 (01:57:40):
At least twenty four minutes. It's like, we've got to
score here.

Speaker 4 (01:57:44):
Gallion up seventeen over Pleasant seventeen ten.

Speaker 3 (01:57:48):
In the third quarter, kick goes into the end zone.

Speaker 2 (01:57:53):
So Hiland will take over first and ten at their
own twenty yard line. And just to kind of go
over some of the stuff we talked about a halftime,
both teams need to cut down on mistakes. Both teams
suffer turnovers, maybe a few more penalties. Well, actually I
think it was pretty even penalty wise too, So each

(01:58:15):
team probably hurting themselves more than the other team is
stopping them. We'll see if the adjustments will get made
here in the second half. So Highland with the ball
first and ten from their own twenty yard line, Stover
in the shotgun Church in the backfield next to him,
and he takes it straight ahead and gets a gain

(01:58:35):
of about three brings up second down.

Speaker 4 (01:58:38):
Yeah, you're right, Hiland's got to do something on this
drive because I know rip River Valley is just chomping
at the bit to get the ball back. They can't
wait to get back on offense here, and looks like Highland,
with the wind at their back, picked up a couple
yards on that first down play. Let's see if they're
going to open it up a little bit. Second down
and seven, a pick up a three. River Valley still

(01:59:01):
pretty much in the same defense. They are playing their
outside backers up a little bit more. Stover back to pass,
he slings it out. Good good coverage out there. Looks
like that was intended for Newsome incomplete. Yeah, real nice
play out there. Defensively, ball was a little bit overthrown

(01:59:22):
there on the outside. Third down play River Valley. This
is real important for him get the ball back. They
could come back and knock one in the end zone. Here,
go up with Highland. Get that momentum back at home.

Speaker 2 (01:59:35):
Only one punt in this game, and it was Highland
back from just in front of their own goal line.
So third down and seven at the Highland twenty three
yard line, Stover back to pass, throws across the mill
complete to Church at the thirty five and up ahead
to the thirty eight yard line, and that's up for

(01:59:57):
Matthews Hondaker first down. The defense is losing Church every
time in pass coverage.

Speaker 4 (02:00:02):
Hey, he's a fine athlete out there. He catches the
ball in his hands, he runs the football, runs over people,
he has enough speed to get away from people. Right now,
Highland is competing with River Valley. I know River Valley's
playing without a couple of their players, but they've got
to figure out defensively what they can do to stop Highland.
They're taking their time, they're letting the field clock and

(02:00:24):
you know, AJ would be very proud of the way
Highland is playing right now with the clock management.

Speaker 2 (02:00:30):
Run to the right side, Church across the forty two,
the forty five, and that's about an eight yard game
on first down, just off right tackle.

Speaker 3 (02:00:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:00:37):
River Valley right now is playing bend but not break defense.
But right now they're bending a little bit too much
and Highland controlling the football. River Valley hoping that Highland
makes a mistake, possibly throwing the ball, get an interception,
cause a fumble. But right now Highland seems to be
taking care of the football. They got a nice little
drive going here, and they're getting ready to proach the

(02:01:00):
fifty yard line that time a gain of nine, So
second down and one at the Highland forty six yard line,
the handoff and.

Speaker 2 (02:01:08):
All just stacked up in the backfield. That was a
blitz up the middle, loss of three.

Speaker 4 (02:01:13):
Yeah, that was Waddle then Aaron Bradley getting penetration there.
They had other thoughts about Highland approaching the fifty yard
line knocked them back, forcing a third down play at
the fort their own forty five yard line. So River
Valley came up big there on that third down or
second down. Let's see what they do here on third down.

(02:01:34):
So it's actually third down and two and Stover rolls
out to the left. Now he throws it up and
in complete.

Speaker 2 (02:01:45):
Man, I'll tell you what, coach, I think he could
have run it and gotten the first down.

Speaker 4 (02:01:50):
Yeah, that was really a kind of an off decision
by Stover there, And I agree third and short like that,
he's on the outside, you got to take a chance.
It's a lot more higher percentage to run the football
and pick up that first down.

Speaker 3 (02:02:04):
They needed that one well, and he's rolling to his left.

Speaker 2 (02:02:06):
He's a left handed quarterback, so that's not a natural
way to you know, roll left and then throw across
your body. Punt is off, almost blocked, and that goes
out of bounds at the River Valley sixteenth fifteen yard line.
But man, they had a rush off the corner and

(02:02:28):
Hayden Kanegie almost got there for the block.

Speaker 4 (02:02:32):
Yeah, let's see if that the decision that Stover made
to try to pass the ball on that third down
will be of effective for River Valley. Here, they have
the ball pretty deep in their own territory. Looks like
it's on the fifteen yard line, and let's see if
they can kind of worm their way out of the

(02:02:54):
shadow of their own goalpost. Nine to sixteen left in
the third period, game tied at fourteen. River Valley now
with their first possession of the second half. Man in
motion is Snyder and he goes underneath and now stepping
up is Eber.

Speaker 3 (02:03:10):
He gets across the twenty up to the twenty five
and that dangerously close to a late hit, but they
didn't call it.

Speaker 2 (02:03:17):
That's a first down. Matthew Hondaker, first down to the
twenty seven yard line.

Speaker 4 (02:03:22):
Yeah, that was quarterback on quarterback who finally came up.
I agree that was a little bit close.

Speaker 3 (02:03:28):
There. Stack receivers on each side and then a single
wide receiver on the outside. Back to pass complete and
up ahead close to a first down is Snyder, and
they may give it to him. I think he's a
yard short he is second down.

Speaker 4 (02:03:46):
Yeah, these guys River Valley, they get a night like
tonight where the field's dry and not a lot of
win they can really be effective with their passing game.

Speaker 2 (02:03:55):
Ebert steps up and he is taking down. They're saying
it's a sack, a loss of one. I thought he
got across the line of scrimmage, but he didn't.

Speaker 4 (02:04:05):
Yeah, that's Mitchell. He's a junior five eight two thirty five.
He's been playing really well, number sixty six, playing on
the inside down on the line. He's been chasing Ebert
all night. That time he got him, and it's.

Speaker 2 (02:04:18):
Just a three man rush out on the front line.
But they've been getting through really well. Ebert complete up
ahead to the forty one and that's the Snyder for
Matthews Hondabra first down and they're leaving that middle linebacker
in there to spy him.

Speaker 4 (02:04:36):
Yeah, fifty two, spying eat trying to spy Eber. But
on that one play that he broke contain it took
the other young man to run Ebert down fifty two,
doesn't seem to have the speed to be able to
catch him.

Speaker 2 (02:04:48):
Snyder complete again and he's able to take off. Oh man,
he just stepped out or he had a huge gain,
but a nice game of about six maybe seven on
that one.

Speaker 4 (02:04:57):
Well, the linebacker led up on him. I think he
was ready to tee off on him. When he saw
his foot out of bounds, he let up, which was
a real smart play by the young man from Highland.
And that is uh Wiggert really playing a nice ballgame
inside as an inside linebacker.

Speaker 3 (02:05:16):
Back to passes Ebert.

Speaker 2 (02:05:17):
Now he steps up, he's got a lane across the
fifty over to the forty five and out of bounds
at the Highland forty three yard line. That's the Matthews
hon Agra first down this time. Looks like Ebert very
content with taking it with his feet.

Speaker 4 (02:05:32):
Well, you take what you what the other team gives you.
They're they're doing a nice job. Highland is uncovering people,
but they're not checking him. And he's got enough speed
to be able to get out and do what he
needs to do. He kind of jogged out there, didn't
even look like he was really moving, but he was
picking up pretty good chunks of yardage. And and like
you say, Wiggert, the inside linebacker couldn't catch.

Speaker 2 (02:05:53):
Him going deep down the sideline and that is caught
but out of bounds.

Speaker 3 (02:06:00):
And I think that was the axe line. Yes, it was.

Speaker 4 (02:06:04):
Knocked away number sixteen Newsome five to one. He's on
the smaller side compared to axe Line, but boy, I'll
tell you what, he covered him like a glove. Real
nice play by the Scott defensive back. And they're throwing
into the wind. That ball got hung up just a
little bit, but Axe Line doing a good job of
just about getting behind. Now Hyland, coming way up to

(02:06:27):
the lion of scrimmage, both the outside linebackers are up
and they are doing a stunt to the outside and
there's a pass down the sideline again and that one.

Speaker 3 (02:06:39):
Is caught and complete. Oh my goodness.

Speaker 4 (02:06:43):
So they bring axe Line over here, and they take
Snyder and put him over there and say let's try
it with you. And Snyder, really seasoned veteran over there,
made a nice catch. Eli Snyder with a catch at
the seven yard line. Matthews hunta aker first down, first
and goal for the Vikings. Back to pass and just

(02:07:06):
out of reach for axe line. But let's go back
to that reception, and that was a tiptoe. He may
have gotten a toe in, but just to get that
grab and nice placement there by Ebert. Yeah, I'll tell
you what if you're a kid that likes to run
and catch passes and you want to be on this

(02:07:27):
type of offense because it looks like it's a lot
of fun for these kids. They get a lot of
these types of kids out for football.

Speaker 2 (02:07:37):
Back to pass, Ebert, he rolls to his right, throws
across and oh, just out of the hands of the
intended receiver.

Speaker 3 (02:07:46):
That was Manette. Manette and tough one to catch.

Speaker 4 (02:07:53):
Yeah, he was wide open there, and Ebert did a
nice job of getting the ball to him. He's kind
of going away from him though, and just couldn't make
the catch. But you know, the crowd gave a big sigh.
The young man obviously didn't want to drop the football.
But River Valley lives to see another play here third
and seven, they.

Speaker 2 (02:08:13):
Bring a bunch formation to the right side.

Speaker 3 (02:08:19):
Two down and one out there he is there. We
go into the corn of the end zone to Snyder
just out of reach.

Speaker 4 (02:08:25):
They're running the two outside receivers on slant double slams,
and Snyder is just waiting until the two receivers clear
and then he cuts it to the outside. Actually, Highland
did a nice job of switching the defensive backs on
coverage there and forcing Eber to throw the ball high.
And it looks like River Valley will bring Pollock.

Speaker 2 (02:08:47):
In this time. So Pollock out to kick about a
twenty nine yard field goal from the left. Hash snap
back kicks up and that one curls right in there.
So Pollock gives River Valley the lead here seven to

(02:09:10):
fourteen over Island. We'll take a break. You're listening to
high school football in fourteen ninety Wmris.

Speaker 40 (02:09:16):
You're living with dry age related macular degeneration or dry AMD.
You may be at risk for developing geographic atrophy or GA.
GA can be unpredictable and progress rapidly, leading to irreversible
vision loss. Now there's something you can do.

Speaker 3 (02:09:31):
To slow down GAT it going slower.

Speaker 40 (02:09:35):
ISERBA is proven to slow GA progression.

Speaker 16 (02:09:38):
All right, it's GA going slower.

Speaker 40 (02:09:42):
ISERB or a Bassen captain Pagel is a prescription eye
injection used to treat GA. Don't take it if you
have an infection or active swelling in or around your eye.
ISERBA can cause eye infection, retinal detachment, or increased risk

Speaker 36 (02:10:16):
The Matthews Honda Akurra High School Game of the Week.

Speaker 2 (02:10:23):
Back here at River Valley High School. Seven oh three
left in the third period. River Valley just takes the
lead seventeen to fourteen over Highland. Oh, that ball bounces
inside the five, taken at the five and up ahead,
tackled at about the seventeen yard line.

Speaker 3 (02:10:40):
Church with the return.

Speaker 2 (02:10:42):
That almost turned ugly for Highland because they've been expecting
him to go out of the end zone. That one
got hung up and dropped right in between the two receivers.

Speaker 4 (02:10:51):
Yeah, the ball, the wind sort of is coming at
his face there and it just took, like you say,
an ugly bounce back into the playfield. But the receiver
pick the ball up and real smart play there and
trying to get what he could and let me and
he got the ball out to about the seventeen yard line.

Speaker 2 (02:11:08):
Let me ask you a quick question, coach or Hyland.
It would seem to me they are having much more
success running the ball than anything to be able to
not give a river valley much time to be on offense.
I would think they would want to try to run
the ball a whole lot more, don't you.

Speaker 4 (02:11:25):
Yeah, And they ran the ball in that last series
and threw it when they had to. But going back
to Stovers, really, really it was as good as he's
played all game. That that was a mistake.

Speaker 3 (02:11:37):
Third and two.

Speaker 4 (02:11:38):
He's out here in the open field and tried to
force the ball when they could have kept the ball offensively.

Speaker 3 (02:11:43):
There goes Church once again. He's going up the middle.

Speaker 4 (02:11:47):
Pretty much it will and I agree, I would I
just say to keep running the ball, picking up first downs,
keep the clock moving, and just try to shorten a game.
I would go to a kind of watch, you know,
thirty eight seconds on the field clock now, it's running
down a little bit, but don't be in a hurry.
Get some rhythm here and like you know, like we

(02:12:08):
were saying, just run the football. River Valley hasn't stopped
him on the run yet.

Speaker 2 (02:12:12):
Matthew's hunt actor first down on the ten yard run
by Church, first and ten at the Highland twenty seven
back to pass his stover. Now he rolls out to
his right and he is going to have to throw
it out of bounds as another player came up on him.
He was chased thereby Tyson Waddell, Harrison Bradley as well.

Speaker 4 (02:12:34):
You know, they had a first down, so he's thrown
on first down. I know he's trying to mix it
up here to try to break his tendencies. But now
they've got a second, second and ten and they do
still have the win at their back, six twenty five
to go. If you're just tuning in seventeen fourteen, the
Vikings are up and I still think they need to
stay with the ground game. They haven't run the reverse

(02:12:57):
for a while, and I really like that play.

Speaker 2 (02:13:00):
Second down nd ten. Now the handoff to Church and
he gets bottled up. He may have gotten a yard,
but that's about it that time looked like the d
N and the outside linebacker just gobbled up the lineman
and was able to hold that to just again of one.

Speaker 4 (02:13:18):
Yeah, that's Walton over there on that side, Sanchez in
the middle, and number twenty five for River Valley that's
on that left side. That's a bab senior playing a
really nice game over there on that other side.

Speaker 3 (02:13:36):
Third down to nine.

Speaker 2 (02:13:37):
Clock is running five forty eight left in this third period,
empty backfield for Stover back to pass. Now he rolls
to his left, throws it out complete at the forty
and tackled at the forty three. And that's the Reichenbach
who's become up pretty clutch in the couple passes he's
gotten to Matthew's honta Aker first down.

Speaker 4 (02:13:58):
I love the way the boat teams are competing tonight,
and Island really not shown any lack of poise in
this situation. They had a big third down play picked
up the first down. The ball comes off of Stover's
hand very smoothly, and like you said, Reichenbach, big target.

Speaker 3 (02:14:19):
For him, six ' four senior.

Speaker 2 (02:14:24):
And now it looks like a false start here on Highland.
A little bit of a mental mistake there by Hyland
decent field position, getting the ball moved out of their
own shadow of their own goalposts there, and now they're
at the thirty eight yard line with a first and fifteen. Well,

(02:14:46):
that's the thing about taking your time. You've got to
keep the penalties from happening because that stops the clock,
and it also stops your rhythm.

Speaker 3 (02:14:55):
Stops your rhythm.

Speaker 4 (02:14:57):
But like they did on the last series, you know,
they're still running their spread trips to the right, twins
to the left. One of the receivers adjusts on the outside,
came in a little bit in the inside the hash.

Speaker 2 (02:15:12):
First and fifteen and blitz up the middle. Now Stover
in trouble throws it out incomplete intended for Reichenbach. Good
coverage there by Number twenty four Hayden Kanegi brings it
up second down, had some.

Speaker 4 (02:15:27):
Pretty good pressure flushed Stover out of the pocket, rolling
to his left. He is left handed, so he was
able to get a ball with a little bit of
speed on It looks like number seventy five for Kloa
coming in six four to two forty five at defensive line,
playing that outside position there with that three man front

(02:15:48):
with Sanchez in the middle in Bret Bradley six three
two ten on this right side, number six.

Speaker 2 (02:15:57):
Safety Snyder moving over as Dover takes it up the
middle breaks free Snyder or excuse me, not Snyder. It
was Ellis McFarlane up there with a tackle, but a
nice gain of about ten yards there for Stover.

Speaker 4 (02:16:12):
Yeah, Alis McFarlane playing safety there, had to make the
tackle and Stover had a nice head of steam there
with a fine effort to get about ten yards of
that back.

Speaker 2 (02:16:24):
So third down and six at the Highland forty seven
yard line as the play call is coming in.

Speaker 3 (02:16:36):
Ten seconds on the field clock.

Speaker 2 (02:16:42):
And snap comes back and pressure up the middle and
there's a hold.

Speaker 3 (02:16:49):
He comes up short.

Speaker 2 (02:16:50):
So River Valley might decline it, but that was a
clear as day hold there on Highland. Yeah, Bradley putting
great pressure and from this right side, and the Highland's
going to be forced probably with a pun here. They
had the wind at their back, they have an opportunity

(02:17:11):
to pin River Valley back.

Speaker 3 (02:17:12):
Here.

Speaker 2 (02:17:13):
I'm watching the head coach Stover and the punt team
started running on and he stopped him. I think he's
he's like, you know what, let's go for it make
them regret declining it.

Speaker 4 (02:17:26):
Maybe he's just gonna go up and try to draw
him off side. They got twenty three seconds on the
field clock. Now he's sending them out. Yeah, that's a
smart thing to do. Four minutes to go in the
third quarter, clock running, they're only down three.

Speaker 3 (02:17:39):
Yep.

Speaker 4 (02:17:40):
No sense in giving River Valley the ball on their
side of the fifty yard line.

Speaker 2 (02:17:44):
Well, and I think it was just he wanted to
talk to his coaches in the box and get the
second opinion that punt is off. Good kick all the
way back at the eleven and rolls out.

Speaker 3 (02:17:55):
Wow, wow, all the way to the two yard line.
That isn't excellent kick.

Speaker 4 (02:18:01):
There's the best defensive play all night right there, pinning
River Valley back. But they had him pinned back on
the last drive and they were able to make their
way down for a three.

Speaker 3 (02:18:11):
Looks like we have a penalty flag.

Speaker 2 (02:18:13):
But that was the kick by Gavin Wiggand just an
excellent punt there, and I think the penalty might be
on River Valley. That's a personal foul on River Valley.
So you're gonna get backed up onto the one right now.

Speaker 4 (02:18:33):
Didn't see what really happened there, But we just got
a report. Looks like Pleasants losing some ground on Gallion.
They're down twenty four to ten in the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (02:18:45):
All right, let's go down to Scott real quick, Scott.

Speaker 29 (02:18:48):
Yeah, the gunner to Highland was a plision with the descender.
The Highland player went down and he stood up. He
would be going down to continuous gunning pattern and the
Real Valley player just came up to them and just
rocked them right in front of the official.

Speaker 14 (02:19:04):
Easy call. That's what it was.

Speaker 3 (02:19:07):
All right, thanks Scott.

Speaker 4 (02:19:09):
There's another mistake by River Valley. They've had an interception,
they've had a fumble and really that unsportsmanlike there could
cost them. Looks like they went to their wattle at
full back. Real smart play, bringing him in, trying to
get something going here, running the football from their own

(02:19:31):
back of their own gain of seven now waddle to
the outside, up ahead to the ten and tackled for
the Matthews Hondactor first down to the thirteen yard line. Well,
maybe they're seeing something here, Maybe they want to shorten
the game here, And looks like they found something that's working.
Highland's defense is getting pushed around here a little bit.

Speaker 2 (02:19:52):
Let's face it, and it was in bad weather, but
against harding.

Speaker 3 (02:19:55):
Once they got that.

Speaker 2 (02:19:56):
Lead, they started running the ball a lot more. Still
out the spread, but they were running the ball more.
First and ten from the thirteen now play action a
swing pass to the outside and is incomplete. That was
intended for a McCullough. Really, no reason that he didn't
catch that.

Speaker 4 (02:20:13):
Yeah, fortunately he didn't catch it because it would have
been a fumble after he got hit.

Speaker 3 (02:20:20):
But River Valley with a second and ten, and.

Speaker 4 (02:20:26):
Like we say, second ten, third and ten really isn't
a big down in distance for River Valley. They've got
some room to work here. So look for him to
put it up in the air again.

Speaker 2 (02:20:36):
No backs in the backfield with Ebert. He gets the
snap complete to Ian axe line and about four yard
game brings up third down and about five.

Speaker 4 (02:20:51):
He real nice catch there over the middle, utilizing their
tight end in a flex position. There, he's like the
inside of the three receivers. Real nice play.

Speaker 3 (02:21:03):
Back to passes Ebert.

Speaker 2 (02:21:04):
Now he steps up, takes off, gets up ahead and
pass all fumble. They're saying he was down and I
thought he was. So he does get the Matthews honta
after first down, but he trucked Stover and Stover was
late getting up, So that's a Matthews Honda after a

(02:21:28):
first down at the twenty four yard line.

Speaker 4 (02:21:33):
Well, right now, River Valley seems to be moving the
football on the ground and uh with some and also
with some short passes here they're just gonna take their time,
and coach Watdall is going to take a page out
of coach Stover's book and try to milk the clock here.

Speaker 2 (02:21:52):
Under two minutes left and now penalty flag. I think
it's for delay a game. Yep, you can milk that
clock a little bit too long. Well, and sometimes you're
just not used. You would think a quarterback would be
used to looking at the play clock, but it's not
something you have to do very often, especially when your

(02:22:13):
offense runs in a rhythm, you don't usually look at
the play clock much.

Speaker 3 (02:22:17):
So sometimes it's easy.

Speaker 2 (02:22:18):
I'm not trying to make excuses for anybody, but sometimes
it's easy to forget it's there. So a minute fifty
two left in the third period, Viking's up seventeen to
fourteen over Highland. First down in fifteen Hebert back to
pass at his own ten, he's getting pressured, rolls out,
he's back at his five, back up to his ten,
and he throws it out of bounds.

Speaker 4 (02:22:39):
That's what he did against Pleasant and the defensive backs.
You got to give him credit. They had very good
coverage there that time. And he was also being chased
by our guy that we've talked about, a lot Wingert,
who is also their punter, and he's played a really
nice ball game on the inside, chasing trying to chase Ebert.

Speaker 3 (02:23:01):
Down all night, and that's not an easy job.

Speaker 2 (02:23:04):
Even if you have speed like Ebert, you're probably going
to get pretty exhausted throughout the game.

Speaker 3 (02:23:13):
Passed across the middle and that's complete. I'm ahead to
the thirty five forty five fifty and taking off. That's
Lang and he gets down all the way to the
Highland thirty three yard line. And Lang went in motion
across the pattern and then came back on a slant

(02:23:34):
and he had barely turned around when the ball was
on him. Now back to pass his River valley and
Ebert's telling his receiver to go down there. That's Lang.

Speaker 2 (02:23:42):
He had lost his footing, but he had a step.
They had the defense on their heels.

Speaker 4 (02:23:46):
Yeah, And the previous play, Lang made his cut and
Ebert had the ball in the air. He turned around
and basically hit him in the gut. He had no
choice but to catch it and made a really nice
fine run after catch. That time, Eber signaled him to
go deep and Lang made a really valuing effort to
dive for the football, but to no avail was just

(02:24:07):
a little bit overthrown.

Speaker 3 (02:24:09):
And now.

Speaker 2 (02:24:12):
An injury timeout and that is Church. RW I gotta
I want to throw it down to Scott because he
seemed like he was fine and then he just went down.
What do you think, Scott, guys, he's cramping up.

Speaker 29 (02:24:30):
You know, we talked about this on the broadcast and
off broadcast. How many of their players are going both ways?
And you know, are they gonna wear down and tire out?
And there you have Church, their their version of Reggie Bush,
if you will, And he just went down with a cramp.

Speaker 14 (02:24:44):
And we're eye into the fourth quarter.

Speaker 29 (02:24:46):
So it seems like, uh, this pace, this frantic pace
at River Valley and Highland for the most part too,
it's starting to wear the players down.

Speaker 14 (02:24:55):
So it's gonna see, uh, who can endure the pain
in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 4 (02:25:00):
You got Ebert who's only playing offense, and coach talked
about that before the game. But you have Stover who's
also playing offense and defense, and Church he's all over
the field. That kid's been doing so much defensively and
also offensively. Second down and ten at the Highland thirty
three yard line, vikings are threatening. The only receiver I

(02:25:23):
see is Snyder that's going both ways. Everybody else pretty
much is playing offense.

Speaker 2 (02:25:30):
Speaking of Snyder, that pass complete up ahead to the
twenty five yard line, and man, they took a long
time to blow the whistle.

Speaker 3 (02:25:38):
He was stood up and about five guys driving him backwards.
In eighteen.

Speaker 4 (02:25:45):
Fitchner was the first guy on the hit number excuse me,
number sixteen. That was newsome for Highland, and you know,
the crowd over here thought it was a you know,
late hit or a little excessive hit, but you're right,
that would be on the referee. The referee didn't blow
the whistle.

Speaker 2 (02:26:03):
So third down and one under a minute left in
the third period, River Valley up seventeen to fourteen over Highland.
Six seconds left on the play clock, and Ebert.

Speaker 3 (02:26:15):
Takes off to the twenty fifteen ten five touchdown Chase
Ebert for the Vikings.

Speaker 4 (02:26:25):
Well, there's the dagger. I believe they're up to twenty
three fourteen. I know it's only nine and they have
a chance to add on to make it ten, but
that makes it a two.

Speaker 3 (02:26:35):
Score game for Highland.

Speaker 4 (02:26:38):
And the last two series they haven't been able to
really get anything going. They had an opportunity with the
third and two, didn't chose to pass the ball, they
didn't pick up the first down, and River Valley has
put together two nice drives and put together ten points
in the last two series. So it looks like River
Valley has a momentum right now at home.

Speaker 3 (02:27:00):
And the extra point is up and good.

Speaker 2 (02:27:02):
So with that, River Valley takes a ten point lead
twenty four to fourteen over Highland thirty one point six
seconds left in the third period. We'll go ahead and
keep it right here and coach just kind of break
down that drive there by River Valley. I mean they

(02:27:23):
slowed it down but then sped it up when they
felt like they needed to.

Speaker 4 (02:27:26):
Well, the big difference is obviously the receivers are going
to do what they do, but it's Ebert when he
when it breaks down. Number one he threw the ball
out of bounds. He threw it away up. They came
back the next play and picked up the first down.
So they don't panic when there's nothing there. They know
they have another play. They can pick up ten to

(02:27:47):
fifteen yards really when at will. And then they when
Ebert doesn't have anything and he's in the open field,
excuse me. He makes things happen, and he looks quicker
out there than defensive backs, and obviously that line the
linebackers can't run him down. He has real quick feed,
makes good decisions, gets out of bounds, saves his own body,

(02:28:09):
and he's a big difference right there.

Speaker 2 (02:28:12):
So River Valley set up to kick it off. Pollock
kicks that one off and that one does go back
into the end zone and so that will come out
to the twenty yard line. Hyland takes over first and
ten with thirty seconds left in the third period.

Speaker 3 (02:28:33):
Let's go down to Scott Scott.

Speaker 29 (02:28:36):
Hey, you know, let's give credit where credits due. Yeah,
Eber made that great run empty open space. The reason
why there's a lot of empty open space, Luke ax Line,
Eli Snyder great did take a fantastic job stock blocking
all the way down inside the.

Speaker 14 (02:28:51):
End zone made it real easy for Ever to trot
right on.

Speaker 4 (02:28:54):
End anytime defense is in mancubach and they run people
off a lot of times they don't even have to
make a block because they're so far down the field
if they're in man coverage. So that's also made it
difficult for Highland. Sometimes they're in zone, sometimes they're in
main and if they're in may and then they're running

(02:29:15):
people off, it's very difficult to stop a good running
quarterback pass complete to Cooper Young for about a gain
of six and I think Hiland's going to let the
clock run down. And so at the end of three
River Valley goes in to the fourth quarter with the

(02:29:36):
lead twenty four to fourteen over Highland. We'll be back
with the star of the fourth period.

Speaker 3 (02:29:43):
You're listening to.

Speaker 36 (02:30:45):
The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.

Speaker 2 (02:30:51):
Island with the ball run there by Church gain of
about two brings up third down. Yeah, Highland has an
opportunity here and this has got to be their opportunity.
They're down two scores, ten points starting in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 4 (02:31:09):
Let's see if they can keep their boys. And that's
what River Valley was able to do. They've had some
adversity tonight and uh, you know, coach talked about it
that they've got to shake off those, uh, those mistakes
and uh, you know, it's a battle of will's tonight.
Two pretty good teams. They can move the football. It's
a battle of who can keep from uh from making

(02:31:32):
that big mistake.

Speaker 2 (02:31:33):
Stover running to the outside cuts it back. He does
get the Matthews Hondaker first down at the thirty five
yard line.

Speaker 3 (02:31:40):
For the Scots.

Speaker 2 (02:31:42):
That was a really nice run by Stover there and
again that read option. He's reading the end to see
if he's going to hand it off to Church or
keep itt. That time he pulled that ball out and
kept it himself, got the first down. Eleven oh five
left in the game. Back to pass, he completes it
and lucky to hang on to that.

Speaker 3 (02:32:05):
That was Sears. Sears, Yeah, up ahead for about a
gain of three.

Speaker 4 (02:32:09):
You see these receivers from Highland, they're really making some
nice catches in their hands. Also River Valley they've got
very nice catches in their hands. So both teams are
very well coached with the receivers and two fine quarterbacks
here tonight.

Speaker 2 (02:32:26):
So again of four on that second down in six
for the Scotts who have to score on this drive,
they're not going to get very many opportunities. Church with
the run straight ahead, close to a first down, and
I think he may have gotten it.

Speaker 3 (02:32:39):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:32:39):
Church went out of the game in that last I
believe series with maybe a little bit of a leg cramp.
That time, it didn't seem to affect him. He's being
replaced by Stover. That's Cane Stover in the backfield. He's
going out a little bit of a limp, but I

(02:33:00):
think it's just a matter of getting a little bit
of hydration and I'm sure he'll be back in there.

Speaker 2 (02:33:07):
Play action now. Stover goes down the left sideline. He
has a man open just out of bounds. I like
the play call there, Coach, very good play call there.
He ran a little in a little slant and go
and Stover had a nice ball through it to the outside.
If nobody catches it, it's going to be out of bounds.
And that time he had just a little bit of

(02:33:27):
error under it and threw it out. But really like
the call and good use of play action there. I
haven't seen him really use much of the play action
in this game, which surprises me, just because they've run
the ball so well.

Speaker 4 (02:33:40):
Yeah, they've got the six ' four kid lined up
with Lang on his outside, and they really liked that
match up because you know, Lang did a real nice
job obviously in the last year he was catching the
nice pass and then and really a good receiver. But
he doesn't match up with the height of the six

(02:34:02):
four number one that's Richtenbach.

Speaker 3 (02:34:05):
So that's what Hyden's trying to do.

Speaker 4 (02:34:07):
They're trying to get that favorable mismatch and try to capitalize.

Speaker 2 (02:34:12):
So a five yard penalty for the false start, and
that's where you know, again both teams have made mistakes.
Highland has had quite a few more false starts things
like that that have hurt them a lot tonight second
and fifteen. Stover rolls to his left, he's being forced
out of the pocket, tries to throw it across.

Speaker 3 (02:34:31):
I think, I think yeah's incomplete.

Speaker 4 (02:34:34):
Yeah, looked like Wadell was there on coverage and that's
Richtenbach couldn't come up with it.

Speaker 3 (02:34:43):
Ball was thrown very low.

Speaker 4 (02:34:44):
It would have been a great catch if he came
up with it, but to no avail. Hit the ground
and looks like a big third down play here for Highland.
River Valley setting pretty good right now with nine to
fifty seven to go up twenty four to fourteen.

Speaker 2 (02:34:59):
Third down in fifteen. River Valley again up by ten,
twenty four to fourteen. Island no backs in the backfield
with Stover pressure from the left side. He does get
away from it, rolls to his right, throws it downfield

(02:35:20):
and that is intercepted.

Speaker 3 (02:35:23):
Luke ax Line jumps up and takes it away from
number twelve Cooper Young.

Speaker 4 (02:35:33):
Well, this is when coach Waddell can go into that
take your time mode, and uh, I think axellent or
excuse me, Ebert is going to probably you'll see him
run the football a little bit here, and they're going
to stay with their short passing game control and they

(02:35:54):
get one more here work to get anything at all,
and this one's gonna.

Speaker 3 (02:35:58):
Be over well coach or Highland.

Speaker 2 (02:36:00):
Coach Stover said that, you know, he wanted to see
thought if Hyland could get a couple turnovers, they could
control this game. They did get a couple turnovers. The
problem is they turned it over one more time than
what River Valley did.

Speaker 3 (02:36:16):
It looks like.

Speaker 4 (02:36:18):
Island's going to stay in a three man front, two
linebackers inside.

Speaker 2 (02:36:24):
Ebert back to pass Zoyrabridge to his right. He almost slips.
He's back at the thirteen throws it out. Good job
of the receiver coming back that was laying and at
the thirty sears on coverage there for Highland knocks. Hi
might have bounds for very short gain. Its gonna be
second about eight fifty seven for Highland. We've got to

(02:36:47):
give him a little bit of props here. Josh McAvoy
defensive lineman did a nice job of keeping outside leverage
and putting enough pressure that Eber couldn't find somebody deep.
Nine thirty seven o'clock did stop since Lang went out
of bounds. One back in the backfield and Ebert takes

(02:37:09):
it away and goes up the middle. Now cuts the
outside at the forty all the way to the forty.

Speaker 3 (02:37:15):
Four yard line.

Speaker 2 (02:37:16):
That's enough for Matthews sont Auker first down and every
first down now for the Vikings is another nailing that
coffin for Hiland.

Speaker 4 (02:37:24):
Yeah, that's what we're talking about a few minutes ago.
I think this is where you keep the ball in
Ebert's hands, get the clock running first down, change your
set ready to go, clock's run. You're playing at home,
and shorten this game and get out of here. So
River Valley taking their time. You know they're up ten points.

(02:37:48):
Nobody says you have to win by more than that.
So coach Watta was putting his team in position. Snyder
out the backfield. Now Ebert looking to run. He throws
it up to Snow who comes back for it. But
he tried to keep his feet in. He did make
the catch, Unfortunately he just couldn't keep his feet down

(02:38:08):
to get the reception. But nice effort there by the Vikings. Yeah,
every catch and throw sometimes with Snyders it's like his
game of inches. With him, it's either in or it's
out by an end so really nice throw, good touch
by Evert, nice catch by Snyder, but a little bit
out of bounds.

Speaker 2 (02:38:27):
Second down and ten, ball is at the River Valley
forty four yard line, eight fifty seven left in the game.
Ebert throws to the right and that is complete, I
believe to.

Speaker 4 (02:38:40):
Lang, and good job by Lang staying in the bounds.
This is situation football right here. You're up ten eight
forty three to go. Seems like a lifetime. But anytime
you run out of bounds or any incomplete pass, clock stops.
So River Valley has got to I think that they've
got to stay in bounds, two hands on the football

(02:39:01):
and keep the clock moving.

Speaker 3 (02:39:02):
Pick up the first.

Speaker 2 (02:39:03):
Down, Third down and six for the Vikings. Ebert throws
to his right, complete to Lang, and now he gets
pushed out of bounds. But that's enough for Matthew Sontagra.
First down across the forty five to the forty two
yard line.

Speaker 4 (02:39:22):
Like to see the receiver cut to the inside, though,
says down the road, you're gonna be playing a team
that can score and move the ball as quickly as
they can. And really, ten points with eight to fifteen
to go is really not a lot.

Speaker 2 (02:39:39):
Ebert looking to the sideline and he's looks like he's
wondering what the call is here.

Speaker 4 (02:39:48):
Well, I would say something to where they can keep
the clock running.

Speaker 3 (02:39:55):
Axe Line in motion.

Speaker 2 (02:39:56):
Now pass across the mill to Ian axe Line and
that's enough for Matthews Hondaker first down up ahead to
the thirty three yard line.

Speaker 36 (02:40:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (02:40:05):
Ian axe Line doesn't get a lot of catches, but
that was a good one down the middle. He just
he's kind of like the screener on the inside of
the trip side to the left, and but that time
he came up with a real big catch in a
first down for the Vikings.

Speaker 2 (02:40:20):
Seven fifty eight in counting. River Valley with the ten
point lead in Highland has played very well all night long,
but they haven't been able to get the big stops
when they've needed to. River Valley has yet to punt
the ball tonight complete again to axe Line Ian ax

(02:40:41):
Line at the twenty nine yard line.

Speaker 3 (02:40:44):
Yeah, now they're really working on fifty two.

Speaker 4 (02:40:47):
Gavin wig Guard, he's the guy that's been trying to
chase Hebert all night. Now they're having him have the
guard the tight end going down in the little zone
running a hook pass and he's two in a row,
and a young man's gonna sleep well tonight.

Speaker 2 (02:41:03):
Yeah, no doubt about it. Well, depending on the end
of the night, he may have nightmares, but yeah, hell deaf,
body's definitely gonna be tired.

Speaker 3 (02:41:14):
Ebert goes to the end zone to Snyder and he
catches it for the touchdown. Looked like he.

Speaker 4 (02:41:21):
Put the ball right in Snyder's face mask as he
made the cut. There's no way that could have been defended.
And Snyder just turned and there he was. Ball was
released very well. Pollock will be coming in to add
on to the score here. It's thirty to fourteen, seven
oh one to go, and Vikings have kind of broken

(02:41:43):
the backs of the Highland Scott's so River Valley with
a thirty eight yard touchdown pass Chase Ebert to Eli Snyder.
Extra point is good and that makes it thirty one
to fourteen. River Valley on a roll. We'll take a break.

Speaker 2 (02:42:01):

Speaker 3 (02:43:11):
Back here at River Valley High School.

Speaker 2 (02:43:13):
Seven oh one left in the game, River Valley in
control thirty one to fourteen over Highland Eric Moseley with
coach John Cuzio and Scott Cameron. That kickoff goes into
the end zone and will bring it out to the
twenty yard line coach. At halftime, we were we were definitely,

(02:43:35):
you know, thinking this would be a track meet. In
the second half, River Valley really came out and once
they got the lead, they took control and just time
of possession everything, Well, now.

Speaker 4 (02:43:46):
They're going to loose it up and just put the
pedal to the medal. Now they've got thirty one fourteen.
I really go back to that one. You say, well,
one play doesn't make a game. Well, in this kind
of a game, you have a third and two and
they don't make the first down, which could have been
a you know, I really think that was the drive
that Highland could have gone ahead of River Valley when

(02:44:10):
it was tied up at halftime, and they didn't do it,
and River Valley capitalized on that mistake, and then they
got some confidence once they went up a score, and
then they kicked the field goaling up ten.

Speaker 3 (02:44:24):
And it's.

Speaker 4 (02:44:27):
That particular drive right now, really nice poised by River
Valley went down a mistake free and great pass and
catch by sniper catch by Snyder to go up thirty
one to fourteen.

Speaker 2 (02:44:42):
Stover scrambles on second down and is able to get
about eight yards first down pass was incomplete, knocked away
by Addison Babb and now this brings.

Speaker 3 (02:44:54):
Up a third down in two.

Speaker 4 (02:45:00):
River Valley. Really, you know, it's kind of a battle
of wills tonight. You know, two pretty good offenses going
at each other. I thought Hiland had a nice game plan.
I mean, it's not over yet with six forty nine
to go. But River Valley now they're forced to pass
on every down, and that's not there. That's not their game.
If it's a one score game, they can mix pass

(02:45:22):
and run. But they're forced to pass every down, and
that time Snyder just about took it to the house.

Speaker 2 (02:45:27):
Pass was intended for Church and Snyder stepped in front
of it, couldn't hold on for the interception, but able
to knock the ball away. Now Snyder back to return
the punt back at his own forty five. That kick
is off, nice high kick. Snyder waves fair catch and
takes it at the forty two yard line. So River

(02:45:52):
Valley in control with this game and should move to
three and two in the conference five and two, or
excuse me, six and two overall.

Speaker 4 (02:46:05):
I believe, Well, next week I believe they go to
Gallion and or do they? I think they play him
at home next week. Yeah, River Valley does, and well,
Gallon's coming off of a big win over Pleasant thirty
one to ten, so they're back on their winning ways.
They had that what three and oh start, and then
they lost some games, and looks like tonight they played

(02:46:29):
pretty well and put it on Pleasant thirty one to ten.

Speaker 2 (02:46:32):
Ebert takes off, running across the forty to the forty five,
up to the fifty and out of bounds close to
a first down. Some other scores in the area. Persandowsky
up thirteen to six over Mohawk in the fourth quarter.
As you said, coach, Gallion thirty one, Pleasant ten, Winford
forty one to Cyrus twelve, Ontario forty five, Harding fourteen,

(02:46:54):
Carrie nineteen, Colonel Crawford ten, North Union twenty six, Ben
Logan nineteen, Danville twelve, Centerberg nothing, Cardington forty two, Loudonville thirteen.
Ebert going deep downfield for axe line, hits him.

Speaker 3 (02:47:11):
In stride at the five and is tackled at the
three yard line.

Speaker 4 (02:47:17):
River Valley's not done, No, I said, they put They're
gonna put the pedal to the metal, and now that
they're loose, they're up thirty one to fourteen.

Speaker 3 (02:47:25):
They're going for more.

Speaker 4 (02:47:27):
This is where they're trying to make their mark here
six twenty four to go. I mean they may score
two more times.

Speaker 2 (02:47:33):
Tonight, Northmore squeaks out of victory over Mount Gillia's sixteen
to fourteen Northmore undefeated. Mount Gilliad gives them a battle.
Upper sidled Valley beats Elgin twenty eight to eight. Quarterback
under center, we don't see much of this. Ebert hands
off to Waddle. He gets stacked up at the two

(02:47:55):
yard line. Second down. Ridgdale does beat Corey Ross in three.

Speaker 3 (02:48:01):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (02:48:01):
That's great for Ridgdale. You know, coach Chapman getting those
kids ready to play. What was the score of that
twenty to three? Twenty to three? Wow, what a nice
ball game for Ridgdale. Shout out to all the Ridgdale
fans if you're tuning in after your game tonight, we'll
be up at the station little postgame.

Speaker 3 (02:48:25):
We'll find out from those guys what happened in that game.
And this Timewaddle takes it in for the touchdown on
the two yard dive.

Speaker 1 (02:48:36):
This is No.

Speaker 3 (02:48:37):
Thirty seven to fourteen.

Speaker 1 (02:48:38):
This was No.

Speaker 3 (02:48:39):
Thirty seven to fourteen game.

Speaker 36 (02:48:40):
No, it was.

Speaker 4 (02:48:42):
It was close until midway through the third quarter, and
then River Valley had some big plays. One of the
biggest plays was laying over the middle on that catch
where the ball basically stuck into his gut and then
of course ball was stuck in his face. Matt here

(02:49:02):
stuck right in his face mask and uh real, nice,
uh real, nice effort by the Vikings. In the second half,
extra point is up and good so River Valley adds
to their lead thirty eight to fourteen over a Highland
five forty or five point thirty four left in this game.

Speaker 3 (02:49:20):
Will take a break.

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.

Speaker 2 (02:50:30):
Accrate River Valley is Pollock pray for the Ohio State
University of Marion kickoff. After River Valley extended their lead
thirty eight to fourteen, Pollock kicks it down the end
zone and so Hiland will have the ball at their
own twenty yard line. And Scott, I want to ask
you real quick. You know the mood down there? I

(02:50:54):
know earlier you were saying it was it was pretty intense.
What's it like down there right now?

Speaker 29 (02:51:00):
You could almost feel when they got to thirty one,
there's a collective sigh of relief and you.

Speaker 14 (02:51:07):
Can just almost feel it. Just people are like, ah,
all is well now.

Speaker 29 (02:51:11):
And then of course, you know after they get up
to thirty eight, people you know, walk around swagger and
feeling pretty confident now.

Speaker 14 (02:51:17):
But it was intense that first half in a little
bit of the third quarter.

Speaker 3 (02:51:22):
Thank you, Scott.

Speaker 2 (02:51:23):
And you know, I don't feel like River Valley's trying
to lay it on or anything. It's they're running their offense,
but I do think they want to just laughing.

Speaker 3 (02:51:35):
Why you don't think they're trying to lay it on.

Speaker 4 (02:51:37):
Well, there's a difference between running their offense and throwing along.

Speaker 2 (02:51:42):
I know what you're saying, Yeah, and but like, but
I look at what, like, you know, the tough loss
last week. It's you know, just trying to get that
confidence back. Yes they are, and uh, they've got galleyon
next week. That's that one's not going to be easy.

Speaker 3 (02:51:57):
No, and uh.

Speaker 4 (02:52:00):
And then they still have trying to think, oh, they
have clear Fork at clear Fork to try to get it.
That's gonna be a revenge game from the Mud Bowl
last year where clear Fork came over here and beat
him on their own field. So they've got clear Fork's

(02:52:23):
tough to win and to beat it when they're at home.
So River Valley still has some work to cut out
for him to have, you know, have a winning season.
So right now tonight, they have a pretty good start
of being able to accomplish.

Speaker 2 (02:52:36):
That thirteen yard run by Stover. He goes for the
pass there and it's knocked in the air and he
gets it himself. So he just completed a pass to himself.
But the problem is he's down about five yards back.
He should have just knocked it down.

Speaker 4 (02:52:53):
Yep, and then he would have had been an incomplete pass,
but instead he completed the past to himself and lost
about seven yards.

Speaker 2 (02:53:01):
The play before that he ran for thirteen yards in
a first down, so River Valley, making it all very
difficult for Stover on offense. Yeah, they can just lay
their ears back and go because they know that they
have to throw the ball every down.

Speaker 3 (02:53:22):
Now Stover steps up.

Speaker 2 (02:53:23):
Now he's going to have to run it, and I
think he was thinking he could throw it and realized
he was past the line of scrimmage. Still a pickup
of about six brings up third down. Yeah, he's still
out there working hard.

Speaker 4 (02:53:35):
He's got you know, like I say, he's got really
a good scramble technique. He really glides when he runs,
and he picked up a first down and the other
thing he did, he's a smart kid.

Speaker 3 (02:53:47):
Ran out of bounced off the clock.

Speaker 2 (02:53:50):
There's so many things with this Highland team, and we
talked about it off air as well.

Speaker 3 (02:53:56):
They are not your typical three in four team.

Speaker 2 (02:54:00):
They are a team that is very dangerous and really
compete with everybody very well. They are a very good team.
They just made a few few too many mistakes as
as Stover throws it out of bounds. And if they can,
if they can play a balanced enough game, I think
they can probably win a lot of games. But if

(02:54:21):
a team can get them to have to play one
way or another, that seems to be when they're they're struggling.

Speaker 4 (02:54:28):
It seemed like when they when they went down three,
it wasn't that bad. But when they went down ten,
now they kind of panicked a little bit and went
to that.

Speaker 3 (02:54:38):
And they could have just kept running the ball. They
kept could have run the ball.

Speaker 4 (02:54:41):
But the problem is they could feel the fact that
River Valley was starting to hit on all cylinders offensively,
you know what I'm saying. They they they could feel it,
and they're guys, obviously defensively were getting really really tired
from ch Ebert and the defensive backs from Chason, the

(02:55:04):
offensive receivers from River Valley.

Speaker 2 (02:55:07):
Well, and that's like we talked about the danger of
deciding to bring so much pressure early, is that your
guys could especially guys that are playing both ways, and
most everybody on Highland's defense was playing both ways. They
it was very apparent they were getting worn out. They
had to get out of that pressure game and they

(02:55:28):
were playing they were playing a lot of man on
the outside with the receivers too, and the way that
the patterns go, you're running all over the place.

Speaker 4 (02:55:37):
So with three thirty nine to go, up thirty eight
to fourteen, River Valley has another opportunity. I told you
they were going to score two more times.

Speaker 2 (02:55:44):
Hand off to Waddle and he takes it right behind
the center gain of maybe a yard.

Speaker 3 (02:55:50):
Maybe not last week.

Speaker 4 (02:55:52):
Last time we were here two weeks ago against Starting
they they pretty much because of the field conditions and
the way what they were up ten to nothing, and
that's how the game ended. Coach Watta did a nice job,
and he knew that he didn't want to take a
chance on throwing an interception or given Harding a fluke
opportunity to tie the game up or go down at

(02:56:15):
least by one score. And then now you've got a tough,
tough way to go. So he's trying to teach his
team situation football. Right now, thirty eight to ten, two
point fifty nine to go, clock running. I really like
this the way they're doing this, and off to Waddle.
He just goes straight ahead and does pick up about three.

(02:56:36):
It's smart football right here. And plus I don't really
think he wants Eber to have to run the football.
You need him the rest of the way and take
a chance on somebody getting a shot on him, or
you know, kind of a freak accident where he gets hurt,
because I mean, River Valley's going to go how Ebert
goes well.

Speaker 2 (02:56:55):
And we've got a couple of the younger kids coming in,
Isaac Betty into the game at receiver, at running back.
I can't see the number twenty five, twenty five. That's
Addison Bab Actually he's.

Speaker 4 (02:57:13):
Running Ebert on that when he faked a Bab and
just cap it to the right, trying to prevent a
fumble here, just running the clock two h two to go,
probably a good idea to hand the ball off to
Bab And even.

Speaker 3 (02:57:31):
On fourth down, don't even take a chance with a
punt here.

Speaker 4 (02:57:34):
There's really no need to punt one forty nine to go,
twenty seconds on the field clock running down. Even if
you give Highland an opportunity to to have the football,
it's really not going to mean anything.

Speaker 2 (02:57:48):
And none of the starting receivers are in right now,
so it's really just, you know, let's let some of
these younger kids play back to passes Ebert.

Speaker 3 (02:57:57):
He's going to throw it into the end zone, like
I said, he was going to kneel down and a
pass interference call.

Speaker 2 (02:58:04):
Well, and I think they probably were thinking, you know,
it's just as good as a as a punt.

Speaker 3 (02:58:11):
What a thrown interception? Well don't I mean it would be,
you know, pretty much like a punt. The problem you
have is the clock stopped because of an incomplete pass,
and so it looks like just when I thought I
had it figured out.

Speaker 2 (02:58:33):
So I think Hyland, yeah, called a time out one
twenty three left in the game. And uh, you know,
one thing I've learned, coach, is we will never have
anything figured out.

Speaker 36 (02:58:49):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:58:51):
And part of it for me, I know, is the
fact that the game is so different than what I
ever played it as. So I just try not to
guess sometimes, that's for sure. But a good evening for
the Vikings tonight. As you know, last week tough loss

(02:59:19):
to Shelby and now River Valley's going to down it.
They are in victory formation, so they just waited one
play longer than what you thought, coch.

Speaker 3 (02:59:32):
So if they would have scored a touchdown, they weren't
going to count it. Well, I don't know about that.
Don't know about that, that's for sure. Make sure you
stay tuned for the end of the game. We will
name our Pillar Credit Union player of the game and
Scott will get an interview with that player, and we'll

(02:59:53):
also get comments from coach Waddle.

Speaker 2 (02:59:59):
Overall, though, a good night again. The weather stayed very good,
got breezy and it's just enough of a nip in
the air that you needed a sweater.

Speaker 3 (03:00:11):
Oh, it's perfect.

Speaker 2 (03:00:12):
Yeah, and we never know what next week will be.
Probably ninety degrees. Uh, that's just the way the weather's
been around here lately. Well, we're gonna be at harding,
so we're gonna be indoors. Yeah, so, and they're gonna
if it's raining, they'll be playing on the artificial surface.

Speaker 3 (03:00:33):
So yeah, that shouldn't be a factor. As far as.

Speaker 2 (03:00:35):
Footing exactly exactly, Well, they are kneeing this one out
and that will do it.

Speaker 3 (03:00:43):
Final score here at River Valley. River Valley wins thirty
eight to fourteen over Island. We'll take a break.

Speaker 2 (03:00:49):
When we come back, we will have the player of
the game and coach Matt Waddle comments, you're listening to
high school football. In fourteen ninety, Wmrin curious.

The Matthews Honda Acurate a high school Game of the Week.

Speaker 2 (03:02:06):
Back here at River Valley the Vikings victorious over Highland
thirty eight to fourteen the Matthews Hondi Act a high
School Game of the Week. Eric Mosley, alongside coach John
Couzio and Scott Cameron. Highland put up a good battle
tonight and it was definitely if you listen to the

(03:02:30):
game at halftime, tied at fourteen, you thought, man, this
thing's going to go the distance. And really what happened
is in the third quarter, River Valley's defense kind of
tightened up a little bit, We're able to get a
few big stops, and then the offense just exploded. It
was a matter of I think, you know, the corrections

(03:02:52):
and the adjustments that River Valley made at halftime, we
were huge and just right to get the victory for him.

Speaker 4 (03:03:00):
I think that Highland, some of the Highlands key players
like Church and Stover and definitely fifty two of their
big inside linebacker Wiggered ran out of gas.

Speaker 3 (03:03:14):
Eric. They did.

Speaker 4 (03:03:15):
And it takes a lot to chase Ebert. And like
we said, Ebert was going to going one way. He's
a quarterback and coach Waddle has him just going one
way for a reason. And he had fresh legs and
he was the difference and they really couldn't keep him
corryud in the second half. And he knew when to
run it, he knew when to hold it, he knew

(03:03:36):
when to fold it, and he knew when to run
with it. So he broke him down and whether he
had the defensive line and the linebackers huffing and puffing
to try to chase him down, and really threw some
fine passes too. Yeah, that pass he threw to laying
across the middle, like we said, hit him in the
gut and as he turned. And the other one he

(03:03:58):
basically hit Snyder in the face mask with it, and
Snyder put his hands up and made the great catch
right going into the end zone. And also Snyder made
some other great catches tonight. And who was at axe
line made some nice catches and he spreads it out
whoever's open. I'll tell you the other axe line Ian

(03:04:19):
Ian axe line big tight end plays in the flex position.
They don't really play a tight tight end, but he's
flexed out about five yards. He did a lot of
blocking tonight, but he made some nice catches on that drive.
I think two catches in a row right down the middle.
Down the seam and weren't real easy catches to make,
but he made him and kept the chains moving. And

(03:04:41):
my hat goes off to the Vikings offense for putting
them away and then also the defense for tightening up
and getting the stops when they needed to.

Speaker 2 (03:04:52):
Yeah, I feel like I didn't describe that last touchdown
by Snyder just right, but he was draped by a defender.
It was the perfect position in a great catch by Snyder.
He kind of got up at the height of the
ball to get that in and like you said, coach,

(03:05:14):
right at his face mask. Good job all night long
by the receivers and by Chase Ebert to put the
ball on the money and he kind of just get
the feeling again. Coach Waddle brought up this point. Their
three losses are to three teams that are still undefeated,
so he's not making excuses for those losses by any means,

(03:05:40):
But that does say a lot about your team that
your only losses were to teams that are still at
the top of their game.

Speaker 4 (03:05:47):
Well, as you get through your schedule, you're gonna play
games like this where it's a tight game, and River
Valley needed to win a tight game instead of jumping
out to a two score lead in the first quarter
and then breezing once they got to thirty one, you
could see them relax and they just open it up
and they took off and they you know, like you said,
they were running their offense on that long pass down

(03:06:08):
there to make it thirty seven or thirty eight. But no,
they needed to win a tight game. And next week
against Gallion, I guess they're more of a balanced team.
They run a foot in their good defense. They're gonna
have to be able to win a game where they
have to keep their composure. Don't panic if they have

(03:06:29):
some adversity, which they did tonight. They had a fumble,
an interception, a couple penalties that really hurt them, but
they bounced back. They shook them off in the second
half and they were able to assert their will offensively
on Highland and make some plays defensively. So this was
a good win for River Valley tonight at home. Yeah,
and the thing with Gallion is, you know, I know

(03:06:52):
that they've had some struggles. They did beat Pleasant tonight,
but if you look at them statistically, one of the
better defensive teams in the MOAC. So it'll be interesting
because we haven't seen them yet this year. Is it
a balanced defense? Do they do well against the pass
in the run or I would think in this conference

(03:07:14):
they must do well against both well. I think they
knew they're going to need to have some guys that
can run on defense and have some stamina. And if
they have a lot of guys going both ways, River
Valley can wear them down.

Speaker 3 (03:07:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (03:07:25):
Absolutely, and River Valley, I know, wanting to get momentum
this late in the season, and they're doing a good
job right now. One of those guys that is great
at the momentum and being a momentum changer is down
with Scott our Pillar. Credit Union Player of the Game
Chase Ebert.

Speaker 14 (03:07:44):
Hill or Credit Union Player of the Game Chase Ebert Boy.

Speaker 29 (03:07:47):
I tell you what, whether it was on the ground
or through the air, you were just on fire and
I what was going through your head during the game.

Speaker 41 (03:07:54):
No started off slow, but no matter what, all credit
goes to the big man up front, big guys up front.
They protected receivers, ran routes. We gave him balls and
she gave him space to work with.

Speaker 29 (03:08:03):
You have job done, so I know I know there
was you know stovers on the other side, he's playing
a defense. Right, there's a couple opportunities where a couple
of times for you guys went mano imano. But what
was your thought going through when you saw here he is?
What was your thought when you're going into him?

Speaker 41 (03:08:21):
You know, I step on the field with a mentality
that I'm gonna be the best gunter. What that's the
way I think about it when I go ask somebody.
He's a great player though, he's great athlete.

Speaker 14 (03:08:30):
He's got a bright future.

Speaker 29 (03:08:31):
Do you uh so, when I know when you're out
there and you throw great faintball do you throw?

Speaker 14 (03:08:36):
Do you play darts at all? By chance?

Speaker 3 (03:08:38):
I don't.

Speaker 14 (03:08:38):
I don't play darts.

Speaker 29 (03:08:39):
No, h Well, if there's an Olympics for for darts, guys,
I think this guy might be Congratulations man, good job,
well done.

Speaker 2 (03:08:47):
That's Chase eber Pillar Craig player of the game. And
I mean, I know that was kind of funny, but
it is true he was throwing darts tonight. Because I'll
tell you what we've seen Chase a lot over the
past few years. Tonight, it was the pinpoint passes that
just look good.

Speaker 3 (03:09:05):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (03:09:05):
Those sideline passes are difficult, and they threw a lot
of those and he had them right on point.

Speaker 3 (03:09:13):
Yeah, very good game for Ebert.

Speaker 4 (03:09:15):
Tell you very impressed with the uh with the receivers
played without caught ill tonight.

Speaker 3 (03:09:22):
And yeah, the running back for River Valley, the guy's.

Speaker 4 (03:09:29):
Younger, Gonnard Jennings on Connor Jennings and these guys step up,
the receivers step up, they take the next shot. Coach
told us the very beginning of the season he had
about ten guys that he didn't have he wasn't afraid
to insert.

Speaker 3 (03:09:41):
In the lineup. And I'll tell you I really like Lang.

Speaker 4 (03:09:45):
He doesn't get a lot of credit, but he makes
big catches, makes big plays when they need him. And
you know he's gonna have to. He's a younger kid.
But the boy, I'll tell you he's a gamer. And
what can you say about Snyder? Snyder every time we've
seen him has really made some nice plays. So we're
gonna get down to coach here and see what he
has to say. All right, Scott down with coach.

Speaker 10 (03:10:07):
Go ahead, Coach.

Speaker 42 (03:10:09):
I know we're we got the band going here, so
don't see how loud we can be HU thirty eight
fourteen if you would have been told that's how the
game would have ended up, you would have been pretty happy.

Speaker 14 (03:10:21):
Yeah, I would have been happy.

Speaker 3 (03:10:22):
But you know, I was hope for that we would.

Speaker 22 (03:10:26):
Get things rolling in the second half offensively, and we did.
We made some big plays in the second half. I
was I was thrilled with the way the guys came.

Speaker 14 (03:10:37):
Out and responded from halftime.

Speaker 29 (03:10:39):
Defense didn't let him hang a number at all in
the second half. That's a big point to take home. Yeah,
especially going forward to a guy and it runs a
pretty balanced offense. That's a good win to take in
the next week. An improvement.

Speaker 13 (03:10:51):
Yeah, absolutely, last week we didn't play well defensively.

Speaker 3 (03:10:55):
I thought we played pretty well tonight.

Speaker 13 (03:10:58):
May had to make some adjustments at halftime, and I
thought the kids, again, like they responded to what we
asked him to do, and you know, to pitch out.

Speaker 37 (03:11:06):
A second half shutout was huge for us. We
