Good evening.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
We are live in downtown Marion at Harding Stadium for
the premiere Optometry Countdown to kickoff as we prepare for
the Matthew Sonta Accurate Game of the Week featuring the
Pleasant Spartans visiting the Harding Presidents. I'm Eric Mosley alongside
coach John Couzio. This is the last of the county
rivalry games of this season, but it may be the
(02:31):
most intense. Pleasant comes into this game off a tough
loss to Gallion and need to get back into the
win column before a potential playoff run. Harding has been
through a pretty rough season so far, but have a
ton of motivation going into this game after a stinging
loss to Pleasant last year. Let me bring in coach Couzio.
Speaker 4 (02:48):
Coach.
Speaker 5 (02:49):
We were at last year's meeting between these two teams
and Coach Williamson has said that he felt like the
Spartans were trying to run up the score. Can that
kind of motivation for a team be a motivating factor
or a distraction going into this year's game.
Speaker 10 (03:04):
Well, you know, you have teams that can get so
hyped up and get so emotional going into the game
that sometimes they forget how to play football and they're
trying so hard, they commit penalties and they make mistakes.
So hopefully coach Williamson can temper his team down to
the point where they're up for the game. They're excited,
(03:24):
they've got letterflies going into the game, but they they
can execute and keep their poise under pressure and not
commit the penalties and so on and so forth on that.
So you know Pleasant's going to be coming in here
and they're four and four. They know how to win,
but they've also lost some games. You never know what's
going to happen in a game like that, a game
(03:45):
like this, because you have two teams that are just
a few miles apart, and both teams are dealing with injuries,
both teams are dealing with you know, different situations like that.
So I look for I look for Harding to come
in here really excited they're playing at home, and I
look for Pleasant to also be excited to try to
meet the challenge tonight. This is one of those games
(04:06):
that there's a ton of storylines, too many to even mention,
but what it all comes down to, it's a county rivalry.
These kids know each other and it's going to be
an intense game on both sides.
Speaker 5 (04:17):
It's going to be a lot of fun. We're just
getting things started here. On the premiere Optometry Countdown to kickoff,
we'll hear comments from Pleasant head coach CJ. Westler and
Harding head coach Chuck Williamson. Will go over the other
area games that are going on tonight and get you
ready for the matchup tonight. Harding hosting Pleasant. We'll go
ahead and take a break. When we come back, you

Speaker 5 (07:27):
Not the outcome you wanted last week. Just tell us
a little bit about that game and what you saw.
Speaker 18 (07:32):
Yeah, it was a lot of unfortunately, a lot of
what's what we've seen kind of all year long, just
really inconsistent. You know, we came out the gates quick.
We got an interception, we drove down the field, kicked
the field goal, we got another stop. We're driving down
the field, we fumble, and then things kind of snowball
from there. We're down ten to three and a half.
We come out, we returned the kickoff at halftime, it's
(07:55):
ten to ten. We feel like we're back in it,
and then we give up a big play right after
that and we're really never to gain traction after that.
So kind of like, you know, really all of our
games we've showed glimpses.
Speaker 7 (08:06):
We just were not.
Speaker 18 (08:07):
Consistent enough right now, and you know, it's kind of
what we've been preaching and what we've been working on
in practice.
Speaker 7 (08:12):
So hopefully we're able to be more consistent for this
week now.
Speaker 5 (08:16):
Talk about the league this year, and we kind of
everybody going into the league kind of knew this year
was going to be a little bit tougher and not
making any excuses for wins or losses or whatever, but
this league has been just a rat race and a
gauntlet for everybody in it.
Speaker 7 (08:30):
Yeah, it's a tough league.
Speaker 18 (08:31):
And I feel like every week when somebody asks you,
you know, what do you see on film. The first
thing everybody says is the quarterback for the other team.
You know, a lot of great quarterbacks and really a
lot of good teams up front too, So you know,
you have Galleon. They were coming into last week on
a losing streak, but you look at who they were
playing and you can kind of understand why they had
some trouble because Shelby and Ontario are the real deal.
(08:54):
So just really a tough conference, really really balanced conference.
Kind of you never know what you're gonna get weekend
and week out. You kind of see some weird results
every now and then. You know, last week Shelby and
clear Fork, we're tied up late in the third quarter
before Shelby kind of pulled away, So kind of shows
you really how balanced this conference is.
Speaker 5 (09:12):
So you talked about the quarterback play, and this has
definitely been one of the best years for quarterbacks in
the MOAC. Your quarterback, Owen Lowry has been an ultimate
leader since day one practically, and he's had to carry
the burden with the running game and the passing game.
At this point in the season, where do you feel
his progress has gone to?
Speaker 7 (09:32):
You know, he's right there.
Speaker 18 (09:33):
We just we really focus on, you know, being more
efficient in the passing game, you know, and this week
we're going to see a lot of man coverage, so
we have to be able to take some shots downfield.
And he's definitely a kid that's capable, and when he's clicking,
you know, we're a completely different team. So we really
need him to play well and we feel like we'll
be in a good spot offensively.
Speaker 5 (09:54):
So on the defensive side, Sam Menser is just an
animal this year seventeen sacks. Closest person I believe has nine.
That is just a huge jump in one year where
he was pretty dominant last year. What do you think
has been the key for him this year to kind
of just become even more dominant at the defensive end position.
Speaker 7 (10:13):
Well, really, honestly, I would say the thing that sticks
out is just his effort.
Speaker 18 (10:16):
Obviously, you know, playing last year, he had that experience,
so you know he's not thinking about as much about
his assignments or technique.
Speaker 7 (10:23):
He kind of has that stuff down where you can
just go out and play and have fun.
Speaker 18 (10:26):
But the reason why you see those sacks and you
see all those tackles, it's just relentless effort.
Speaker 7 (10:32):
You know, he doesn't stay blocked.
Speaker 18 (10:33):
When he gets off blocks, he's finding the football and
he's he's great at pursuing the football.
Speaker 7 (10:38):
He doesn't just stand there and watch so and really,
I mean.
Speaker 18 (10:41):
You could tell the kids a wrestler the first time
you watch him play, because you know that's a wrestler's mentality.
So he's he's a great kid, and he gives us
a ton of effort. So we're in week nine. Where
do you think your team is that? Or how do
you evaluate your team at this point this season? What
have you like that you've seen? What are still some
of those things? If we can just get over the hump,
we can be more complete. Yeah, And I've told the
(11:03):
kids we've showed flashes of being a really really good team,
you know, thinking all the way back to the start
of the year. We started three and one, and really
our most complete game was Week four against Highland. We
played great, and since then we haven't really put an
entire game together. You know, it's hit or miss. We
played a pretty good first half against Ontario. It was
fourteen to seven, it was a good ballgame. We felt
(11:26):
like we were right in it. And then we come
out the second half and you know, it's just that
inconsistency that I was talking about. So if we're able
to put a full game together, I feel like we
can compete and beat anybody in this conference and hopefully
moving forward into the playoffs if we're able to finish
out the year strong.
Speaker 7 (11:43):
But our kids have that belief, we just have to
we just have to go out and do it.
Speaker 5 (11:47):
So let's talk about the game tonight here at Harding,
a place you're very familiar with. Last year, I think
definitely was a big motivation game for you and the team.
But this year it feels like that rivalry is even
more intent but it's definitely getting to be on par
with maybe River Valley.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
Pleasant.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
Just talk about what you see out of Harding and
what you think about the President's team this year.
Speaker 7 (12:10):
They're definitely an improved team.
Speaker 18 (12:12):
Offensively, they like to spread the ball around and throw
it around a lot, and then defensively, they're gonna they're
gonna play man coverage and they're bringing pressure, you know,
and that forces a lot of offenses into mistakes.
Speaker 7 (12:23):
So we have to be able to make plays when
we're one on one, you know.
Speaker 18 (12:26):
That's that's kind of what their defensive style is they
get you into a bunch of one on ones and
they have really good athletes and they win a lot
of those. So we have to be able to make
plays on offense and then defensively, like I said, every week,
we got to contain the quarterback and stop the passing game.
Speaker 7 (12:40):
So definitely an improved team.
Speaker 18 (12:43):
But it's a little bit of a weird week for
us because we didn't spend a ton of time on
the rivalry, just because we need to focus on ourselves
and being more consistent, because if we do that, we'll
be fine, and if we continue to be inconsistent, we're
gonna continue to have those struggles.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
Well, coach, thanks for taking the time tonight and good LuFe.
Speaker 7 (13:00):
Thank you.
Speaker 5 (13:02):
That was pleasant Head coach CJ. Wessler and good interesting
comments there from coach. And I think you can tell
coach Cruzio that, I mean, he's he is definitely up
for this game, and he's probably got his players just
as up for it.
Speaker 10 (13:16):
Yeah, he's definitely up for it, but he's kind of
I think he's kind of downplaying the rivalry in the
fact that you know, of course they're playing away. He
doesn't want to give any any more ammunition to the
other team, Harding, because I think they're hungry. I think
by talking to some of their coaches and and seeing
some of their players during the week, I think that
(13:38):
they're going to be locked in tonight and I'll be
I'll be really surprised if Harding doesn't come out quick,
come out fast. The thing that they're going to have
to do, though, if they expect to win this football game,
is to be consistent, just like Pleasants coach CJ.
Speaker 4 (13:53):
Westler said.
Speaker 10 (13:54):
But they're also going to have to keep their composure
and if they have some negativity happened during the course
of the game, especially early in the game, they've got
to surpass that.
Speaker 5 (14:03):
Just keep on rolling. All right, Well, we're going to
take a break. When we come back to count down
to kickoff, we'll hear from Harding head coach Chuck Williamson.
You're listening to count down to kickoff on fourteen ninety Wmrin.

way that you almost wish you just hadn't done any
transferring at all. And so when you're doing these things
and there's big ticket items involved, Scott, can you hear
crazly want that all off?

He's harding head coach, check Alliamson coach. Last week another
tough loss. Uh just talk a little bit about that.
What you saw out of that game. I mean, we
did some good things.
Speaker 17 (16:40):
We came out of the gate, took the lead seven
to nothing, We got a pick, so we had chances early.
You know, the quarterback, he's a special guy. He's he's
he's he's a good player, and he broke some big
ones on us. And you know, that's been the same story.
We've given up big big, big chin can we call
him Chuck plays? And you know, it put us behind
(17:01):
and then we fought back a little bit and then
the Miller kick kind of took over at the end.
Speaker 5 (17:06):
And you know one thing that I've noticed with Hardy
this year, no matter what the record, even against the
tough teams, which every week seems to be a tough
game for you guys, man, you guys are right there
for at least a half, maybe even three quarters, and
you don't want to ever not focus on the fact that, hey, guys,
we've got stuff to work on that's got to at
least be able to be something you can go back
(17:27):
to with the players and say, look, guys, we're right there.
Speaker 17 (17:29):
Oh absolutely, Like I said, I don't think there's many
teams in Ohio played four or four or eight no
teams right now. We played four of them, so you know,
we played good teams, good competition. Our league is really tough,
so you know we're excited to get after tonight.
Speaker 5 (17:42):
So from what I've heard around the program, you've been
trying a few different guys at different positions, trying to
get that running game going.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
How's that going for you? Doing well?
Speaker 17 (17:51):
It was last week was a pleasant surprise with Lanna
Keller jumped in there and he had a seventy I
think it's a seventy four yard touchdown run. He broke
through when I said, you know, there's ten nice ten
twelve yard game get and they didn't catch you. He
pulled away and was gone. So yeah, it's we've done
some good things.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
And I'm sure getting a little bit of a running
game going is able to open up that playbook a
little bit more with maybe some play action and get
your quarterback going on.
Speaker 17 (18:17):
Absolutely absolutely it opens everything up, as you well know.
You know, when you can run the ball, that opens
up the play action pass, It opens up your quicks,
your three step because it freezes those linebackers. So yeah,
it's helped.
Speaker 5 (18:28):
So you know tonight great weather, great atmosphere. It's it's interesting.
I always like to ask coaches that are having up
and down year, what has been the thing that's been
able to keep these kids motivated every week? And is
it just been each other? Has it been just the
fact that they get to come out and get on
the field.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
Yeah, they're just quality kids.
Speaker 17 (18:49):
One thing is you know we're playing team down the
road tonight, that that doesn't hurt things because you know,
they all grew up together, they know each other, they
played little league ball together, So that was this one's
an easy want for us to get them motivated. But
you know the playoffs that you know, they want to
go to the playoffs and it's still in front of them.
They get but they have to win tonight.
Speaker 5 (19:08):
Let's talk about your defense a little bit. This defensive front,
it just seems to get better and better at this
point in the season. You know, I'm looking at the
stats and there's a ton of harding kids on there.
How do you feel like the defenses progress, especially upfront?
Speaker 7 (19:24):
Fine, we're doing well.
Speaker 17 (19:25):
I mean we're physical, we get after it, and our
back end we're just so young and you know we've
given up the big chunk plays with the back end guys.
Speaker 4 (19:33):
But you know, every game they get better and better
and better.
Speaker 17 (19:35):
So we're excited about see what we do tonight.
Speaker 5 (19:37):
So let's talk about tonight. Pleasant comes into this game
off of a loss as well. What do you see
how this Spartan team and what are your thoughts on them?
Speaker 4 (19:45):
A typical you know team down the road. They're physical,
they're big.
Speaker 17 (19:50):
You know they're gonna try to punch us in the
mouth and run the ball at us, and you know,
you know so well, we'll see what happens.
Speaker 5 (19:57):
And I know you haven't you know, shied away from
the fact that, you know, last year, you guys felt
like you were a little disrespected in that game. How
have you used that in a positive way to motivate
this team.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
I mean it was a felt it was absolutely that's
what happened.
Speaker 17 (20:10):
You know, when you have been doing this for twenty
something years and when you're up thirty to nothing with
thirty something seconds and you throw the ball when our
guys aren't playing defen you.
Speaker 5 (20:18):
Know, we don't.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
It's clip one fifty six.
Speaker 2 (20:21):

Welcome back to Harding Stadium for Tonight's Matthew Sondact Game
of the Week. Harding is kicking off to Pleasant. That
kickoff is back and that goes into the end zone
for a touchback. We're getting started right away. I want
to throw it down to Scott on the sideline real quick, Scott,
what do you got?
Speaker 33 (31:19):
Well?
Speaker 2 (31:19):
Guys for harding. Some would say it's a point in
the season where seems to be nothing luck to lose.
You know, you're one and eight. Sometimes it can be
a dangerous team though, especially considering they have the athletes
to compete. Due to injuries, players have been playing both ways,
different positions, different mixes to find a recipe. But Williamson
said everyone's ready and available tonight for the big rivalry game,
whereas on the other side, and talking with coach Westerer,
(31:40):
he has not been totally ignored to Arvalry, but instead
been plasing to focus on their own team play and
playing complimentary spurt in football. Guys, I think this is
going to be potential.
Speaker 5 (31:50):
For a great matchup, and we agree. Scott first and
ten for the Spartans and back to pass. Lowry completes
at Columber at the twenty twenty five and up ahead
across the thirty. That's a Matthews Hondaker first down for
the Spartans.
Speaker 4 (32:08):
So nice play call by Pleasant.
Speaker 10 (32:09):
They're getting the ball to colinber in open space, picking
up a nice first down for him and kind of
loosing Lowry up a little bit. Nice short pass, nice
pitching catch for first down.
Speaker 5 (32:20):
Both teams this season struggled with their pass defense a
little bit. I would expect we'll see the ball in
the air a little bit more than normal this week.
Speaker 10 (32:29):
We talked to some guys last week against Gallion, they
really had a hard time running the football. So you know,
Niederhauser is usually the big guy running the football. Let's
see what happens here tonight.
Speaker 5 (32:43):
That's who got it for Pleasant right there in a
nice gain of about five to the left side.
Speaker 4 (32:49):
That's second down.
Speaker 10 (32:50):
Well, it looks like Pleasant in the first two plays
they've come to compete. They're really offensive lines coming off
the ball, and so far Harding hasn't had a chance
to really hunker down here. We had a couple number changes,
which only means that maybe some position changes. Justin Long
is wearing number sixty nine and Lucas Keller normal forty
(33:12):
two is on fifty one, So maybe these guys are
going to help out on the offensive offensive.
Speaker 5 (33:16):
Line I formation for the Spartans, and they get Harding
to jump off sides, and I want to mention this
is the first time we've seen Pleasant run the I
formation this season.
Speaker 10 (33:27):
Yeah, coach is gonna coach Western is going to adjust.
Good coaches will adjust to the personnel who they have left.
And it looks like he's figuring he's gonna line up
in an eye and that way they can go either
direction and catch Harding in a balanced defense, and they're
gonna have to guess which way they're going.
Speaker 5 (33:45):
So that makes it a Matthew honda Aker a first
down on the offsides penalty first and ten at the
Pleasant forty three yard line. Now in shotgun is Lowry
switchneter Hauser moves to the left side to receivers move
to the right. Lowry fakes the handoff, takes themselves left
side across the forty five to the fifty to the
(34:07):
opposing forty seven yard line and out of bounds for
another Matthew's Hondaker first down.
Speaker 10 (34:12):
Yeah, right now, Pleasant's coming off the ball really nice
and quick. Lowry looked really quick on that they're playing
on the turf over here at Hardings stadium, perfect night
for football. I don't know how you could get aim better.
If you're in the area. We always say we invite
you over. You see lights in your neighborhood, stop over,
you're gonna see some kids really competing. Right now, Pleasant
looked like they came on a business trip.
Speaker 5 (34:34):
Lowry up under center I formation. Peterhauser at the tailback
tried to get them to jump off sides again they
did not move back up under center. Now hand off
Toneedterhuser to the left side gets hit right away, maybe
about two yards and that's it.
Speaker 4 (34:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (34:54):
Right now Pleasant is switching up their formations. They're going
under center, they're going shotgun, going from an I formation,
they're going to spread. In the first five or so
plays of the game, they're trying to figure out what
Harding's gonna do make adjustments. A lot of time, coaches
will script the first ten plays or so ten twelve plays,
and the coaches upstairs are looking at the defense or
(35:16):
excuse me, looking at the offensive formation, and then the
looking at the defense to see what kind of adjustments
the defense is making against those formations.
Speaker 5 (35:25):
So deck second down and eight for the Spartans shotgun formation,
two slots. Now, Lowry runs to the right, cuts it
back up the middle, across the forty and he gets
tackled at about the thirty seven yard line. And that's
close to a first down, be about third and one.
Speaker 10 (35:42):
Well, i'll tell you what, Lowry looks really good right now,
Coach Wessler said before the game. If we're going to
have an opportunity to win this football game, Lowry is
gonna have to play well.
Speaker 5 (35:51):
Right now.
Speaker 10 (35:51):
He's doing a pretty good job right now running the
football with also with a nice short pass.
Speaker 5 (35:57):
Lowry has two carries for eighteen yards in this game.
Third down and two and Lowry is up under center
eye formation. Now he backs up off of the eye
and hands it off ton Terhauser. He gets up the
middle cross for the first down and just a yard
(36:19):
passed it. But that's all you need. Another matthew Ton
di aker first down for the Spartans.
Speaker 4 (36:22):
Yeah, the guy's up front.
Speaker 10 (36:24):
You've got Henry Potter, You've got Cox, you've got Brown,
flitchbaw and these are the guys up front that are
making the holes for the pleasant Spartans.
Speaker 5 (36:38):
And that's a false start, as the snap just didn't
come back fast enough and so that'll be a loss
of five for the Spartans. A good, good movement here
by the Spartans on offense, but that can stop a
momentum right there.
Speaker 10 (36:55):
Well, they've got a couple really adequate receivers on the outside,
and I think, you know, look for Spartans to try
to open things up. But this is a perfect drive
for them. They're taking time off the clock. They're trying
to shorten the quarter. They're playing you know, possession football,
keeping the ball away from Harding's offense.
Speaker 5 (37:16):
So first and fifteen ball now at the Harding thirty
nine yard line and hand off to the left to
Niederhauser and he gets stacked up and let's.
Speaker 4 (37:28):
See coming under the pile there.
Speaker 10 (37:30):
Number four, that's good and defensive back makes a tackle
when he host of others from the inside on defense.
Looks like number fifty two is in there. We've seen
him play a lot. That's Starks. We really had a
good time with him over at Ralphie's a few weeks ago.
Good ball player for Harding playing down in the middle.
Speaker 5 (37:52):
No gain on that one second down to fifteen shotgun formation.
Two wide receivers on the right, one up top that
man up top is in motion, they fake the handoff Niederhauser,
Round gets tackled in the backfield.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
That was number twenty four on the tackle.
Speaker 10 (38:11):
That was Cebril. We've really seen a lot of him.
Eric Colton, sebral defensive lineman. He really made a nice play.
Right now, Harding is stiffen it up. They gave some
yardage up early and looks like they're tightening up. Big
third down play for Pleasant here.
Speaker 5 (38:29):
That's a loss of two on that play. Third and
seventeen at the Harding forty one yard line, and so
Lowry alone in the backfield. We got three wide receivers
in a triangle formation, two on the other side, and
now Lowry rolls out a little screen up ahead to
(38:50):
the forty complete and out at the thirty five yard line.
So only about a six yard game and it'll be
fourth down and long. I didn't see who caught that
mountain scouting.
Speaker 10 (39:00):
Yeah, and number twenty eight for Harding, Hayes five ten
five sophomore made it over there and really putting a
big hit on Scouting on the sideline. So Spartans are
forced with a fourth and about eleven here.
Speaker 5 (39:15):
Now the Spartans could go ahead and punt this and
pin harding back, but looks like they're going forward. Even
though fourth and eleven. They feel like, hey, maybe try
and go for it, Maybe try to draw them off
side and then go for it. And now that's what
they're trying.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
To time out.
Speaker 5 (39:32):
So Pleasant takes the time out. We'll go ahead and
keep it right here.
Speaker 7 (39:37):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (39:38):
It looked early on coach that Pleasant was just going
to drive down the field. Then the penalty on the
false start moved them back, and then two or three
straight running plays or two running plays and a screen
pass only netted them about six yards.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (39:55):
I really liked the screen pass call though. Uh, you
got to run one of those early in the game,
aim to slow up the defense.
Speaker 4 (40:01):
But you're right, excuse me parting.
Speaker 5 (40:07):
Uh, you know, they they bent a little bit, but
they didn't they didn't break.
Speaker 4 (40:12):
Sorry about that. That's okay.
Speaker 5 (40:14):
Let's go down to Scott real quick, Scott.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
I got a pick up for John Kugio. He sounds
like he's a man down because this was the matchup
I was looking for tonight.
Speaker 17 (40:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
Once it's been talking about how they're really committed to
the run. In the last couple of weeks, and you
could tell early on coming down in different formations, move around,
seeing if Harding was playing zone, playing man who's guard
new and running plays out of that, you could really
tell Harding was selling out, putting all men up right
in the box and just stuffing pleasants run and you're
right at the till he just kind of put him out.
But there it looks like they're still going for on
(40:44):
fourth town.
Speaker 5 (40:45):
Guys, thanks Scott. So fourth down and eleven three wide
receivers to the right, one at the top and he
goes emotion Now Lowry a deep pass in the corner,
man open, but caught intersect did by the Prexies. They
just laid it up there a little bit too far.
(41:07):
And is that number thirty eight? Yeah, number thirty eight,
let's see, or thirty three maybe no thirty threes. I
don't think they have a name. It's at thirty eight
or thirty nine. Well, I'm not seeing either one of
those numbers. But it was picked off by Pleasant. It's
(41:27):
number thirty thirty, yeah, because they didn't have a thirty
eight Caden pass. H he's a five to ten, one
to seventy five sophomore. So these sophomores, for Harding, have
really come to play tonight. They're growing up fast late
in the season, and we've always said at this time
of season, sophomores they're trying to win positions not only
for the rest of the year but for next year,
(41:48):
to try and impress the coaching staff. Rexy, nice play,
prexy start first and ten at their own twenty. Pennington
with the snap play action, he throws across the middle
complete and that's complete up ahead to the thirty yard
line to Parker Davis.
Speaker 10 (42:03):
Really, Parker Davis when we had him again Mount Vernon
first game the season was really heap his player of
the game.
Speaker 4 (42:09):
He can do a lot of things for partying.
Speaker 5 (42:11):
And they've got to get him involved early like they
just did, and keep him involved the whole game. Matthews
honto acra first down for the President's up ahead to
the thirty. Pennington alone in the backfield. He takes the snap,
throws an out complete up ahead to the forty two
yard line, and that was to Keyante Scott.
Speaker 10 (42:34):
Real nice play, real, nice pitch and catch from Pennington
to Scott. We're going to see a lot of that
tonight when we pleasant against River Valley. They had a
hard time covering the River Valley receivers, and I think
coach Williamson noticed that and he's going to use that
strategy tonight. Also, that was another Matthews Hontaacra first down
for the Presidents first and ten up at the forty
(42:56):
one hand off straight ahead and not much there for
landing Keller.
Speaker 4 (43:02):
That was Josiah Good And I believe number four or.
Speaker 5 (43:07):
Well, on my roster it says number four is Landing Keller.
Speaker 4 (43:10):
I don't know why this four.
Speaker 5 (43:15):
Okay, that doesn't look like Keller. Doesn't excuse me?
Speaker 19 (43:19):
A four?
Speaker 5 (43:20):
Yeah, Okay, there we go. Landing Keller is number four.
We've got a couple of different rosters up here.
Speaker 4 (43:28):
Yeah, they switch numbers on this.
Speaker 5 (43:33):
Second down and ten Keller to the left side, and
he's able to get ahead for about three yards maybe four,
brings up a third down in about six.
Speaker 9 (43:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (43:43):
They went to Keller a couple of weeks ago, and
he's really looks like a running back. You know, he's
a real fine defensive player, but he's willing to go
wherever they need him, and right now they need him
at running back and really doing a.
Speaker 5 (43:55):
Nice job and Scott just lets know Lucas Keller is
down playing on the offensive line now as well too.
Speaker 4 (44:01):
Number fifty one.
Speaker 5 (44:02):
Yeah, we mentioned that before the game that when they
have Pennington goes deep and that's complete up ahead to
the ten yard line and that's Parker Davis. A huge
reception for the Matthews coct Hondaker first down.
Speaker 10 (44:18):
Yeah, real nice pitching catch going down the field and
a big play for Harding right now they're knocking.
Speaker 4 (44:26):
On the door.
Speaker 5 (44:28):
That's just a nice play. And one thing I want
to mention Connor Pennington has all kinds of time to
throw the ball right now. So first and ten at
the eleven yard line, they're saying first and goal actually,
and Keller gets it up ahead to about the nine
and well they're saying that that was about the twelve
(44:51):
yard line that they were at. So it's at the
ten now, second down in seven, Yeah, real nice series
right here for Harding. They're knocking on the door.
Speaker 10 (45:02):
They withstand that withstood that first drive and right now
they're looking pretty good with four to twenty seven a go.
If you've just tuned in, it's nothing, nothing and a
run to the outside. Pennington, he's got to throw it
out of bounds at that situation. Can't afford a loss.
Speaker 5 (45:21):
Yeah, he rolled out and that was a loss on
the play. So now a third down and eleven at.
Speaker 4 (45:29):
A bount the.
Speaker 5 (45:32):
Thirteen yard line. Twelve yard line, so big third down here,
Spartanery Prexys can get the first down. Penny Ton takes
the hand off to Keller. Now he looks he's under
pressure and he is sacked. A late delay there or
delayed blitz there. And guess who's Sam Menzer.
Speaker 4 (45:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (45:55):
Sam Menzer came in on from this backside and blind
sided him there. And Pennington after he threw the long pass,
he kind of was running down the sideline and you
can't see it from the radio, kind of looking at
the pleasant bench that time. He had nothing really to
be too happy about because Menzer came in from the
(46:15):
backside and put a shot on him, forcing Harding to
a fourth down situation here.
Speaker 5 (46:21):
So Jackson Shipley in for about a thirty six yard
field goal. Kick is up and that one is good,
very good, very good drive. Nice kicker.
Speaker 10 (46:36):
Shipley is really a solid kicker for Hardy puts it
right through and they break the ice here at Harding stadium.
Speaker 5 (46:43):
So with three or four left in the first period,
harding gets on the board first three to nothing over pleasant,
We'll take a break. You're listening to high school football

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 5 (48:01):
Back here at Harding High School, Harding up three to nothing.
Over Pleasant kick is received at the five up ahead
to the ten fifteen twenty and a nice hard hit
and taken down.
Speaker 10 (48:15):
Kwame Scott really came down and put a shot on
the receiver down there, and little extra cricuter going on
here a little bit, but they both teams break away
and Pleasant starting from their own about twenty yard line.
Nice return, big hit though by Scott returning that kick
(48:36):
was Christian Burns number twenty three, So twenty one yard
line is where the Spartans takeover, and Pleasant's going to
want to answer right away after they started that first
series off with a quite a good offensive drive, but
a penalty and a couple of tough stops by the
(48:58):
President's ended that drive.
Speaker 5 (49:00):
Playing defense for Harding tonight, we have Glover, Fags, Kellor, Sibril,
and Haines, and we'll get to some of the other
ones here in a minute. Peterauser breaks through the line
on the run and gets about four yards brings up
second down.
Speaker 4 (49:16):
Yeah, it looks like sixty nine.
Speaker 5 (49:20):
That's one of those number changes that's justin long.
Speaker 10 (49:25):
Yeah, I'm not used to seeing. He usually wears forty,
so sixty nine is long. Real fine linebacker for Harding,
and he had some help underneath. Looked like number four
was in there, Gooding And really, really this is a
well matched game tonight. Eric definitely is.
Speaker 5 (49:47):
So second down and five at the pleasant twenty six
that handoff stopped right away. Ball carrier was Ryan Conway.
Gain of maybe one brings up third down.
Speaker 10 (50:04):
Well, I finally figured out who Ringer was because the
last time we had fifty six is now zeros back
to zero to a zero. Yeah, so they don't give
us these number changes tonight. We got a couple from
Harting about what thirty seconds we'll kick off.
Speaker 5 (50:20):
And if you if you've been listening since the beginning
of the game, we're still trying to figure some of
it out. So third down and three shifting from one
side to the other is three receivers from left to
the right and hand off taking down right away. And
that was Niederhauser and Mark Marx. Yeah, number thirty two,
(50:43):
Caden Mark stops him for a loss. So that's a
going to be a punt now for the Spartans.
Speaker 10 (50:49):
Go after that first little series where the Spartans marks
down the field and then got penalized h for movement,
they haven't been the same. So they're forcing Harting to
and the receivers are going to be standing around the
forty five yard line their own forty five with probably
going to be getting a really good field position after
(51:12):
this punt.
Speaker 5 (51:13):
Punt is a line drive punt. Hits at the fifty
and taken at the thirty four, up ahead to the
thirty five and tackled at the forty.
Speaker 4 (51:25):
And that was h. G. Griffith.
Speaker 10 (51:29):
Griffith Griffith, Yeah, Jaden Griffith five ten one seventy five junior.
Pretty nice return. I was a low rolling kick on
the turf and sometimes those work out really well, especially
if the receiver campfield.
Speaker 4 (51:41):
He did a nice job.
Speaker 10 (51:43):
Pretty good coverage by the Spartans, and now you've got
Hearting Uh with really good field position on their second possession.
Speaker 5 (51:50):
So Connor Paton in that first series was three for
three sixty six yards and most of that went to
Parker dave Us with a forty four yard reception.
Speaker 10 (52:05):
Tell you Harding's got some pretty good skilled receivers. If
Penning Cain can continue to get some time.
Speaker 5 (52:11):
Here, paint ten pitches behind him on a sweep that's
Ray j Scott Harbolt and he gets ahead for about
a gain of four up to the thirty or forty
five yard line.
Speaker 10 (52:22):
Real nice blocks out here on the outside with the receivers.
They run to the long side of the field and
picking up some good yardage on first down. Now it's
second and five, and most of these plays, you know,
other than those couple of sacks, there have been positive
plays forward for the President offense.
Speaker 5 (52:40):
Second down and five at the forty five yard line,
hand off to Keller, he goes to the left. It
was a little bit of a bobbled handoff. Maybe gets
a yard and that's about it.
Speaker 10 (52:53):
Yeah, Tracktenburg was up under the pile there on the
tackle and looks like the into the first quarter.
Speaker 5 (53:01):
So at the end of the first period, Harding has
the lead thread to nothing over pleasant. So we'll take
a break. When we come back, we will have the
star of the second period. You're listening to high school
football in fourteen ninety Wmrin.

Speaker 9 (54:15):
The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the.
Speaker 5 (54:18):
Week Payton on the first play of the second period
completes it ahead to Parker Davis and that's enough for
Matthews Honda Actra first down at the Pleasant forty nine
yard line.
Speaker 4 (54:32):
Yeah. Right now, Davis is feeling pretty good.
Speaker 10 (54:35):
He uh is two for two on receptions and uh,
I don't think Pleasant has an answer for him. He
has it having so far harding, playing with a lot
of confidence right now.
Speaker 5 (54:49):
Hand off to Keller and he gets a nice gain
of about three maybe four.
Speaker 10 (54:54):
Yeah, Keller got the ball, came back and got it,
just made a quick turn to the right and scooted
right up through put his head and shoulders down and
picked up a couple of yards and they're they're kind
of like delayed handoffs for him to kind of wait
to see what direction to go. Yeah, he he looks
like a running back. I don't understand why he had
(55:14):
been playing back there. From the very beginning.
Speaker 5 (55:18):
Swing pass to ray J Scott Harbolt and he has
stuffed loss of about five on that one and brings
up a third down.
Speaker 4 (55:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (55:27):
Real nice coverage here, looked like lowry. Yeah number is
that one. Yeah, he came up on the tackle and
a host of others. Very nice quick read by the
Spartan defense on that.
Speaker 5 (55:39):
You know, you talk about coach, you know why Keller
hadn't been playing running back. Let's remember the start of
the season, the goal was to have everybody play one way,
and it's just developed to the point and coach had
told us back then, if it gets to the point
where we need somebody to play both ways, we'll do it.
And uh, you know it might be thinking back now, man,
if we had started him back there, it might have
(56:01):
been a big difference.
Speaker 10 (56:02):
Yeah, And I know what they're thinking that he's rested
on defense and he's gonna have better defense.
Speaker 5 (56:07):
Pennington throws an interception and that was just that was
the telegraphs.
Speaker 10 (56:12):
He didn't even look, and Tracktenburg was right there making
a low interception and the Spartans get some momentum back
with great field position. Pennington was just looking over here
to the right, just turned him through it, didn't even
see Tracktenburg.
Speaker 5 (56:26):
Fine play by the young man going down load to
get it. And they were trying to run a little
bit of a throwback screen and unfortunately, when you're doing that,
rolling one way and throwing it back, like you said,
coach didn't look back to see who was there, So
a turnover. Each quarterback has thrown an interception so far
in this game.
Speaker 10 (56:45):
Yeah, Tracktenburg's a fine linebacker, and his read is when
that back goes to the swing out to his right
or out to his right formation there he's going to
track him down. And he stepped right in and made
a nice play.
Speaker 5 (56:58):
So first and ten for the Barton's and down three
to nothing back to pass his lowry. He's going deep
and they're trying to make something happen and turned around
and actually the receiver, the intended receiver turned around and
ended up being a defender. Yeah, that was mccant's attended receiver,
(57:20):
and it looked like number eight Stinson Mm hmm, yeah,
that was Stinson on Covery's they're pretty good battle over
there by those two guys. No, that was number yeah,
number number eleven.
Speaker 10 (57:35):
That was Fag's going up and uh, both of them
basically knocking the ball away well, and they're trying to
test both of these secondaries, no doubt, are trying to
test each other. Second down and ten, two backs in
the backfield with Lowry, he hands it off and a
quick hit there by. The linebacker didn't.
Speaker 4 (57:58):
See who it was, but that's sixty nine. That's long.
Speaker 10 (58:03):
Oh yeah, we used to see him wearing number forty,
but yeah, you can tell that was him.
Speaker 4 (58:09):
Third down.
Speaker 10 (58:10):
I tell you, we've got kind of a little bit
of a stalemate here with Harding leading three to nothing,
nine thirty six to go in the first quarter. Good
ball game, neter Hauser with the carry there So third
down and long Spartans with the ball at the Harding
forty seven yard line. Shotgun for Lowry and tight end
(58:32):
and slot moved to the left. Now a hand off,
no fake it.
Speaker 5 (58:35):
Lowry runs around the outside down the sideline and gets
the Matthews Hondaker first down out of bounds. At the
thirty five yard line.
Speaker 10 (58:43):
Yeah, real nice fake there by Lowry and neter Hauser
coming back to the left and right now, Lowry looks
like he's one of the quickest guys on the field
eric offensively for definitely offensively for the Spartans. He's got
fresh legs and he really did a nice job nice
which enabled him to get to the outside. Harding's defensive
(59:04):
end came down and got sucked in almost like an
option play there and Lowry making the best of it.
Speaker 5 (59:10):
First and ten I formation for the Spartans. Lowry up
under center, delayed handoff to Niederhauser, he gets cuts to
the outside and actually gets a nice gain of about nine. Yeah,
they're getting a real good push there right now with
the offensive line Henry, Potter, Cox Brown and Flinchbaw. They're
(59:37):
really pushing back and Pleasant got settled down there after
the touchdown or the shoot the field goal by Harding,
But now they're making a little drive of their own,
and I think they're getting into the situation where they're
in four down territory. Of course, second down and one
at the Harding twenty six yard line. Up under center
(01:00:00):
again is Lowry and hand off toneeder Hauser. He gets
stuffed right up the middle and there is no game there.
Third down, Yeah, I'll tell you what. They laid some
leather on him. Number fifty one.
Speaker 10 (01:00:15):
That's justin long, really really nice hit there, and I
couldn't tell who the other one was, but boy, that
was a real fine hit. No momentum by the offense
of running back on that one. It's a third and
probably a little less than two yards here for the Spartans.
Speaker 5 (01:00:36):
So third down and one at the twenty six yard line.
Now a sneak and had somebody jump over the top,
but it didn't matter. It's enough for Matthews Hondaaktor a
first down.
Speaker 4 (01:00:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:00:49):
We used to call those jops and we were watching film.
That's you know, jumping on the pile, yep. But to
no avail, Harding could not stop him, and Spartans pick
up a down with seven forty two to go, they're
on the march. They're just kind of a nice methodical
march taking a lot of time, and that time they
didn't wait for Harting to jump off side. They went
(01:01:10):
on a quick count first and ten Matthew Sondaker first
down for the Spartans at the nineteen yard or excuse me,
the twenty four yard line of Harding and Lowry takes
it on a sweep to the outside, tries to cut
it up the middle. There's a penalty flag. I think
that's going to come back for a hold only a
(01:01:31):
gain of about two yards. Let me throw down to
Scott real quick, Scott, what are you seeing down there?
Speaker 9 (01:01:38):
Guys?
Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
A lot of pads and helmets really clicking and clacking,
a lot of physical play. Obviously, Pleasant really wanted to
run the ball, be physical, but you know, Tracktenberg for
a Pleasant real quick. You know, coach Wester was talking
about he had some hand issues this week, and he's like, well,
if you see him, he's gonna have a big cast
on him. And he did have a big giant kink
(01:01:59):
cast on him and he made that interception. So, coach Couzio,
you ever have to play with one hand with the
other hand in a big giant cast.
Speaker 5 (01:02:08):
No, But I definitely don't like gloves. He's made that
known more than once that he does not like gloves.
So that was a big time penalty. Now, first down
in twenty moves Pleasant back a ten yard loss on
a hold and hand off to Niederhauser and he breaks
(01:02:33):
away across the thirty up to the twenty five and
tackled at about the eighteen yard line, so got back
most of the penalty yards and more.
Speaker 10 (01:02:43):
Yeah, we talked the beginning of the game that only
that emotional of really being determined to have this be
a revenge game that only lasts about three or four
or five minutes. And looks like pleasant has settled down.
They're playing some good football right now. Their offense has
really been moving the ball. Need Hauser is really picking
his knees up and Lowry also and the Spartans are
(01:03:04):
on the march.
Speaker 5 (01:03:05):
Second down and four shotgun for the Spartans, Lowry Niederhauser
in the backfield next to him. He gets the fake
and now Lowry just rolls out and maybe gets a yard,
but they really the player or excuse me, the harding
defense really sniffed that out real quick.
Speaker 4 (01:03:24):
Yeah, it really fine play over there. Looked like.
Speaker 10 (01:03:28):
Sixty nine was over in on that one that would
be justin Long and he showed some pretty good quickness
because I'll tell you, Lowry was ready to turn the
corner and Long caught up with him knocked him out abound.
So Spartans, are you know a force with a real
manageable about three yards?
Speaker 5 (01:03:48):
Ball is at the prexy sixteen yard line, third down
and three, and Lowry takes it himself and gets stacked up.
Speaker 4 (01:04:01):
I think he may have gotten a yard.
Speaker 5 (01:04:05):
They'll bring up a fourth down and decision time because
Pleasant does have a kicker that can make a field
goal from this distance. I have a feeling though, that
coach Westler doesn't want to take those points. He wants
to keep moving forward with the offense.
Speaker 10 (01:04:22):
Yeah, I'll tell you there's no question about it. He
wants to get seven here. He doesn't want to get three.
And he has a lot of confidence to be able
to pick up this yardage. And I look for him
to go on a.
Speaker 5 (01:04:33):
Long count and maybe try to get Harding to jump
up under center is Lowry and they did try to
get him to jump. And now a time out by Pleasant,
so very interesting. This is the second time that they
(01:04:54):
tried to do that tonight, and then they called time
out each time afterwards. So doesn't takes the time out
with a decision to make fourth down and three, and
like I said, they do have a field goal kicker
that can make this. But we've been around coach Wesler
enough over the past season and a half, we know
(01:05:16):
he's willing to take some chances just to stay keep
his team motivated. He has a lot of confidence in
his team. Well, they have a lot of options here
that they can go. I'll tell you they run a
nice little screen pass that first play of the game
where they hit Colingber on that little slip screen inside
(01:05:36):
sort of the gel break screen where they run two
guys down basically off and then he comes in underneath
he's the outside man. That was a real nice play
for him first play of the game. So I look
for him to do something maybe like that. Ringer could
be a real good receiver for him. Looks like they're
going to go trips out here to the left and
twins to the right. Empty backs, so empty backfield, but
(01:05:58):
that doesn't mean they won't run. May spread that defense
out and try to give some zones for Lowry. Lowry
takes the snap quick pass and that is complete and
just enough for the Matthews Sontagra first down and that
is completed to Alec Colimber for the first down.
Speaker 10 (01:06:20):
Yeah, that was one of those plays where you practice
all summer long. You go down five yards back to four,
pick up the first down and keep the drive moving.
And real nice colinber knew the ball was going to
be low. He was already down there waiting on it.
No running after catch. The purpose was just to pick
up the first down, and they did. Owen Lowry right
(01:06:41):
now three for five, passing twenty two yards. Lowry fakes
the handoff and he.
Speaker 5 (01:06:48):
Gets stacked up right away in the backfield. They were
trying to run some play action there, but breaking through
there was number thirty three Landon Adams two hundred sor
and he really the first game we had them this year,
was his first game back after being out all of
last year. And boy, I'll tell you what a real
(01:07:11):
fine defensive end for Harding really comes to play stout
young man, and that he didn't let Lowry get outside
of him. And this is a long series here for
the Spartans. Four to twenty left until halftime. Again, Harding
up three to nothing. Over pleasant second down and fourteen.
(01:07:34):
Lowry rolls to his left. He's looking to pass. Good
covers now he lobs it up and Calmer comes down
with a pass touch down touch down.
Speaker 10 (01:07:46):
Pleasant Colinber turned and he was falling down and as
the receiver for or the defensive back from Harding kind
of fell in front of him, Colinber kept his concentration.
The ball hit him right in the stomach and he
fell right in the corner of the end zone for
a touchdown. You'll never see a better catch than that. Well,
and that was just he had beaten the defensive back.
(01:08:08):
The defensive back had his back and he had jumped
up and kind of had you know, they may have
called a pass interference or something if he had not turned,
or if he had gotten it. But Colinber timed it
just right to be able to get that. So back
(01:08:30):
for the field goal is or the extra point, I.
Speaker 5 (01:08:37):
Should say, Chase van Houston. Yeah, Chase van Houston, and
he's able to get that in. So with three point
fifty nine left in the second quarter, plus it takes
the lead.
Speaker 4 (01:08:50):
Seven to three Overhearding.
Speaker 5 (01:08:52):

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the World.
Speaker 5 (01:10:05):
Pleasant kicking the ball off after the Central yle Farmers
co Op touchdown seventeen yard touchdown reception by Alex Klimber
makes it seven to three. Pleasant overhearding kickoff is up
and that's taken at the ten up ahead to the
twenty and there's a penalty flag across the twenty five
(01:10:28):
and that's where they are going to be tackled. I'm
trying to see who that was on that return pause
Cayden pause with the return, but I think there may
be a penalty flag against the return team. And Scott,
you were right down there on that pass reception. What
did you see there?
Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
Honestly, I saw there's two defenders and it was either
the defender either just kind of fell over or it
was just the worst time to attempted to jump to
It almost looks weird and you can even hear the
coaches on the sideline here. For Harding then went are
you kidding? Because it just didn't even look real. So Harden,
(01:11:10):
he's gonna make a comeback here. And you know one
thing Kennington strives, it does very well and three step
drops and getting rid of the ball quickly. It's gonna
be interesting if they go back to something where he
just quickly distributes the ball because puzn't made some good
adjustments and made him hold on to it and put
him into tickles. So stee what Harding does first?
Speaker 5 (01:11:29):
And ten for the Prexies back to pass his painting
across the middle, and that one is intercepted by Alec
Calimber at the forty two yard line.
Speaker 4 (01:11:41):
Right down the middle.
Speaker 10 (01:11:42):
He tried to hit the receiver right down on a
skinny post and Colinber may, I think it was actually
tipped a little bit by his buddy there from Pleasant
and Colinber comes up with a big interception. The Spartans
had him backed up throwing that deep. Spartans are gonna
have great feel position on about the forty one yard
line with three forty five to go. Time of is
(01:12:05):
not a problem here right before the end of the
second quarter, so the big most so to speak, has
gone back to the Spartans.
Speaker 5 (01:12:14):
So Alec Calimber with having a touchdown reception, just added
an interception and he has three receptions for thirty four
yards one touchdown and he is an early candidate for
our Pillar Credit Union player. The game first and ten
for the Spartans as Colimber goes from the backfield into
the slot. No backs in the backfield with lowry back
(01:12:35):
to pass. Now he goes down the middle to Colinber
and he lays out just out of reach, but they're
going with the hot hand right now in columber You
had real nice pass there by Lowry and had some
nice time, had a little bit of pressure right at
the end, and it looked like fifty one Lucas.
Speaker 4 (01:12:54):
Keller was in there.
Speaker 10 (01:12:55):
But boy Lowry laid that thing out and so did
colinber most huge play for the Spartans.
Speaker 5 (01:13:04):
And I like, how pleasant after that interception. Let's take
a shot right away, see if you can get something
so that one incomplete.
Speaker 10 (01:13:12):
Yeah, they're gonna go to the I formation and try
to get some run runs going here. I like Lowry
running the football.
Speaker 5 (01:13:19):
They move out of the eye into the shotgun, three
receivers to the left, and they hand off to Niederhauser.
He breaks through across the forty and gets tackled at
the thirty seven yard line.
Speaker 10 (01:13:30):
Yeah, that's what that first big long bomb will do
for you. After the turnover, that loosens that defense up.
Those linebackers are not gonna be as nosey coming up
in there, and the Spartans pick up a little bit
of gain there. But now forced with a third down.
This is a little bit longer that third down than
they would really like. But three ten to go, they're
(01:13:54):
trying to get some points here right before the half.
Speaker 5 (01:13:56):
Third down and six and Pleasant has already shown they're
willing to go for it even if they don't pick
up anything right here. Lowry gets the ball, rolls to
his left. He's looking deep again going for Colinber and
just overshoots him that time. Nice over the top coverage
(01:14:17):
there by the Prexies. Yeah, they ran a.
Speaker 10 (01:14:19):
Little out and up with Colinber and Lowry running to
his left. I think Lowery realized that the defensive back
from Harding and I believe it was number five, pretty
good coverage. Juju Glover was right there and he just
chose to throw it long and throw it away. So
Spartan's force with a fourth and five, and it looks
(01:14:44):
like they're talking about it.
Speaker 4 (01:14:45):
They may go for it here.
Speaker 5 (01:14:48):
You know, it would seem to be in what they
do that they would go for it, But they're taking
their time and probably take that last time out and
go ahead and just take their time decide what they
want to do. Let's run through some of the area's
scores right now. Colonel Crawford's up fourteen to seven over
(01:15:08):
Upper Sandusky, Mohawk up fourteen to nothing over carry our
brethren on Magic ninety five nine are doing that game tonight.
Northmore up twenty one to nothing over Cardington, Gallion and
River Valley are tied at seven. In the second period,
Mount Gilead and Loudonville scoreless. Graham fourteen, North Union nothing,
(01:15:30):
Perry thirteen, Elgin eight, Winford eight, Buckeye Central six, Centerberg
up twenty seven to nothing over East Knox, Senekeas twenty eight,
Esyrus nothing, Waynesfield Goshen six, Ridgedale nothing, clear Fork nineteen,
(01:15:51):
Highland nothing. And I'm trying to find the Shelby score
because that is a pretty big game in the area
right now. In the second period, Shelby and Ontario tied
at fourteen. Here we are fourth down and six ball
at the Herding thirty seven yard line. Man in motion
(01:16:16):
is colinber Lowry going deep again and that one is incomplete.
Pass was intended for number thirteen Dylan Burns. So Coach Westler,
we're you know, basically, we're taking chances.
Speaker 10 (01:16:31):
Yeah, that was a well designed play. Colinbers had the
hot hand, he ran a swing. Lowry looked at him
all the way. I believe that was more of a
decoy and then he came back back to Dylan Burns
right down the middle.
Speaker 4 (01:16:43):
Very well designed play, just a little bit out of
his reach.
Speaker 5 (01:16:46):
So if I'm harding in the harding coaches, I'm telling
the guys, look, we made a mistake, but we did
not give up anything. We've got time to now go
score before halftime and then we get the ball back
first in the second half.
Speaker 10 (01:16:58):
Well, I think they're going to keep attacking, you know,
hopefully Pennington, I know, you know, coaches hoping that he
learns from his mistakes and we'll do a little better
here on this series.
Speaker 4 (01:17:10):
But with two forty to go, they have a capability
of scoring big play.
Speaker 5 (01:17:17):
Painting swings it out, completes it across the forty to
the forty forty four yard line, and that was Parker Davis.
They've got to use him more and more and more.
They used him early in the in the game and
then they kind of forgot about him. But he's the
guy that he can run the Jets sweep, he can
run that quick screen. He can also he in the
(01:17:39):
one game he ran a skinny post for a touchdown.
So he can do a lot of things. Painting back
to pass and he just overthrew it. Another interception to
Burns across the fifty to the forty, and he had
a man open and he threw it completely over his head. Yeah,
he slung it over his head and Spartan for back
there waiting on it.
Speaker 10 (01:17:58):
And right now, you know, they could have dodged they
dodged one, but they gave it right back and Spartans
are looking to capitalize with two twenty six to go
up seven to three. And this could be big, big
for Pleasant if they go into the locker room with
another touchdown.
Speaker 5 (01:18:16):
And we know that that Pennington has no fear when
it comes to throwing the ball. That time it was
I'm not sure if he just was a miscommunication, if
he had just kind of thrown that a little bit,
you know, maybe harder. It looked like he kind of
lobbed it and it just went away from him. But
the coaches will try to get him under control, I'm sure,
(01:18:37):
because they need him and they need his arm to
be able to you know, stay in this game. So
first and ten, Pleasant with the ball at the Harding
thirty five yard line. Three wide receivers on the near side,
one up top, one back in the backfield, lowry under
center and a little reverse there and that is to
(01:19:02):
the thirty five and thirty and that was Cole Bailey
with the run and a nice carry there for about
six yards.
Speaker 4 (01:19:11):
Yeah, real nice carry. I like the call.
Speaker 10 (01:19:13):
I love it when somebody runs a little bit of
a reverse, something a little bit different than running play
action or playside running all the time and keeps the
people on the backside honest and picked up. And he
ran like fifty yards to get about six but well
worth it to eighteen to go.
Speaker 4 (01:19:34):
He got out of bound. Stop the clock.
Speaker 5 (01:19:37):
So the ball is at the Herding twenty nine yard line,
second down in four man in motion Asneterhuser. They fake
to him and complete shoe colimber, but he has hit
no gain on that one, just a little underneath screen
and that's actually a loss of about two.
Speaker 4 (01:19:55):
Yeah, that was actually the scoalting on that on that
right side over there.
Speaker 5 (01:19:59):
So thirty two brings it back to the thirty one
yard line, third down and six And both of these
defenses playing very tough tonight, points are not going to
be real easy to come by for either team.
Speaker 4 (01:20:13):
It would appear very.
Speaker 10 (01:20:14):
Well matched teams here tonight playing I know with Harding
playing with a lot of emotion here. So third down
and six back to passes Lowry and that's complete, and
that's enough for Matthews Hondakra first down up ahead to
the twenty four yard line. We had some people in
(01:20:36):
the press box said that pleasant broke the huddle with
twelve guys, but if it doesn't get seen, it's not abildy.
Speaker 4 (01:20:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (01:20:46):
Well, they picked up the first down and they're marching
right here. They're gonna definitely try to capitalize here right
before the half with one nineteen to go and Harding,
let's see if they can dodge another one.
Speaker 5 (01:20:59):
First and ten, Lowry going to the end zone. Good
coverage and that's complete, and they're saying it's a touchdown. Yeah, wow,
that was on the sideline. I think that's Colin ber
Dylan Burns. Oh is it Dylan Birds? I can't see
that far away.
Speaker 10 (01:21:16):
Yeah, Dylan Burn's on the touchdown number thirteen in the
corner of the end zone. Real nice catch, real nice
throad right to the corner. If he doesn't catch it,
it's gonna be out of bounds. And boy, he made
a nice, nice grab there, putting Spartans up thirteen to
three one oh six. You can't keep throwing interceptions and
(01:21:36):
expect the other team not to capitalize. And uh, Harding
is kind of on their heels a little bit right now.
Speaker 5 (01:21:44):
So that's I believe about a twenty four yard touchdown
reception and we had a whistle blown. The ref said
the player needed to come off the field for Harding,
So probably an equipment thing. So back to kick Van
(01:22:14):
hoo'son Van Housen up and good. So that extends the
lead for the Spartans fourteen to three over Harding, And
we'll go ahead and keep it right here. And you
want to throw it to Scott real quick, because we
had some guys up here that said that Pleasant had
(01:22:35):
broken the huddle with twelve. We didn't see it, obviously,
Was there anything you saw down there?
Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
Absolutely? In fact, a couple of the guys are down
here taking pictures. I've told them the same thing. I said.
They broke the huddle of twelve and it should have
been a piloty, but Mike, like you guys said, refs
didn't catch it. And Harding's in the position. They do
have the offense and capability to score with this one
oh six that they have and they do have all
(01:23:01):
three of their timeouts, so time is not the problem.
It's just going to be up to Cam Pennington still
have confidence and move the ball down the field.
Speaker 5 (01:23:10):
Yeah, you have to have a short memory as a
quarterback of any player, but especially the quarterback. We know
that this Harding offense can be pretty explosive at times,
and you know, Scott's right, coach, Paynington just got to
go out there and calm down, do what he knows
how to do. Yeah, I mean, I really don't think
there's a lot of times where he's really looking where
(01:23:31):
he's throwing.
Speaker 4 (01:23:34):
You know, I don't know, I don't know what the
read was or what.
Speaker 5 (01:23:37):
Now Harding takes it down the sideline on a pooch
kick and brings it down to the forty yard line.
I'm not sure what was the plan there, but they
they pooched it and that was a great return there
by the the prexies number eleven.
Speaker 4 (01:23:56):
Cameron fags.
Speaker 10 (01:23:57):
Yeah, let's see, Harding's got an opportunity to hear. Great opportunity. Hey,
before I forget talking to Mark Schaeffer and his brother,
Scott like to give a shout out to them. They
say they listen every week and like to give a
shout out to those guys, really great guys, and we're
thankful that they're listening and hopefully we're doing a good
(01:24:20):
job for him. So yeah, yeah, Harding's got a great
opportunity here. This is big for them right now going into.
Speaker 5 (01:24:26):
The half and Harding goes ahead, and I mean, I
don't know. I guess they took a time out, but
it's a change of possession. They're letting them all huddle up. So, oh,
there's a player down. I didn't even realize there's a
player down. Yeah, so I didn't see who it was,
so I think it's a Pleasant player. It is number
(01:24:51):
twenty three and that is Christian Burns and he is up.
Yeah he yeah, but it looks like he's pretty serious.
Speaker 4 (01:25:02):
Yeah, he's not putting a lot of weight on his
leg there.
Speaker 5 (01:25:08):
So first and ten at the Pleasant forty yard line,
and if there's anything that you need to boost you up,
if you're if you're Pennington, hey we've got good field positions.
So let's get down there and get this done. Fifty
nine seconds left, fourteen to three, Pleasant on top parting
(01:25:30):
with the ball. They've got to get get the ball
to Parker Davis, and that's who got it on the
swing pass across the forty and up to about the
thirty five, and so the clock still runs though that's
a five yard pickup, second down and five.
Speaker 4 (01:25:49):
Yeah, he's got to get out of bounds.
Speaker 10 (01:25:51):
Receivers have to understand that they do have three timeouts,
but the clock's running. I don't know why they're saving
their time.
Speaker 5 (01:26:02):
Thirty seconds left. Back to pass is Pennington. He steps
up now, moves to his right, he takes off across
the thirty does get out of bounds, and I do
do you think he picked up the first down? If not,
well they're saying he is about one yard short, so
that'll be third down and one. But a good pickup
(01:26:23):
by Pennington able to get out of bounds as well. Yeah,
twenty one seconds to go.
Speaker 10 (01:26:30):
Tracktenberg did a good nice job of crawling him over
here on this side.
Speaker 5 (01:26:37):
So I'm wondering, coach, if they don't get the first down,
which I think they willed, you better call time out. Yeah,
you gotta at least call time out. Figure out what
you want to do. And they do have a kicker
with a strong leg, but it's still a long field goal.
Back to pass is Pennington. He's pressured, he gets away,
gets up there and that is enough for Matthews son
(01:26:58):
Agger first down across the thirty to about the twenty
eight yard line, and they do call a time out
with sixteen seconds left, and Menser was right there.
Speaker 4 (01:27:11):
Ready to get the sack.
Speaker 5 (01:27:15):
Some of the stats so far in this game, and
I want to thank Trent Ramsey is a statistician for Harding.
He's able to give us these stats in real time.
Connor Pennington seven of ten for seventy seven yards, three interceptions.
He's been sacked two times. Owen Lowry is seven of
(01:27:36):
twelve seventy one yards, two touchdowns in an interception. Leading
rusher right now for Harding is Landing Keller with four
carries for nine yards for Pleasant, Drew Niederhauser twelve carries
for forty six yards first and ten for the Press.
(01:28:00):
I've seen seconds left down fourteen to three before halftime,
and Pennington throws it to the sideline, complete and out
of bounce, and I think that was ray J Scott
Harbolt and that's enough for Matthews Hondaker first down. It
looked like he was trying to cut it back up
(01:28:21):
in and I think he realized, wait a.
Speaker 4 (01:28:23):
Minute, I gotta get out of bounce. Yeah, they've got
a no situation football right here. Eleven seconds to go.
Speaker 10 (01:28:29):
Of course, there was sixteen before that play, and they
did pick up a first down, so the receivers have
to know they've got what two timeouts, so they're gonna
need one for the field goal if they get in
that situation.
Speaker 5 (01:28:41):
So now Pennington, rolling to his left, looks to throw.
Now he takes off and there's the penalty flag. He
cuts it back. It looks like he's gonna get touchdown,
but I think that's coming back for a hold or
an ineligible downfield.
Speaker 4 (01:28:57):
Would be my guess. That's a hole. He's got the whole.
Speaker 5 (01:29:00):
So Pennington's touchdown is taking off the board. Great job
by Pennington. Four seconds left on the clock, and that
just will punch it in the gut. So Prexis will
get a chance, one more chance, but that puts it
(01:29:22):
back at the twenty seven yard line. That has just
been the story of the season for the Presidents. Right now.
Speaker 4 (01:29:29):
Yeah, right now, the Spartans are thinking they're going to
look like.
Speaker 5 (01:29:34):
They're going, Yeah, they're going to kick the field goal.
You have four seconds, so Jackson Shipley, this will be
a forty four yard field goal for Shipley from the
right right hash mark.
Speaker 9 (01:29:56):
No.
Speaker 5 (01:29:56):
Obviously not generally going to win a lot of games
by just kicking field goals, but this could be a
boost snap. His back kicks up and it is blocked,
comes down to colinber and he is tackled. But a
penalty flag and I think that's an illegal crackback.
Speaker 10 (01:30:17):
I thought I saw a helmet to helmet in there
too on the tackle, but they missed that one.
Speaker 4 (01:30:22):
That was a blindside block on.
Speaker 5 (01:30:26):
Mattic Simmers and that will give pleasant or excuse me, Harding,
I don't know. I mean, will the turnover happen or
will it be automatic first down with fifteen yards?
Speaker 4 (01:30:41):
For Harding, that's where.
Speaker 10 (01:30:44):
You almost want to just lay down. I mean, you know,
after you get that, for that not to happen. But
Calmber was going to try to take it to the house. Yeah,
those were his thought, first initial thoughts. So I think
the question is did it happen? And when the turnover happened?
So they declined it. So it did, they wouldn't have
(01:31:04):
gotten the ball back, so Harding declined it. So that's
how we will end this first period with pleasant on
top fourteen to three Overhearding and very hard hitting first
half here, coach, Yeah, real hard hitting first half by
both teams and pretty well evenly matched teams here right
(01:31:24):
now tonight. But Harding made a couple bad mistakes offensively
to give Spartans a couple extra chances. And you can't
give a team like that that's also playing some pretty
good football tonight.
Speaker 5 (01:31:42):
Coaches getting choked up by everything he's seeing here tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:31:45):
Must have been the skittles before the game.
Speaker 5 (01:31:47):
See, I should have just warned you, but I couldn't know.
It's been a very entertaining first half here, both teams
putting a lie on the field, and it has come
down to just a few mistakes both ways, but Harding
with a couple more mistakes that have been costly for them.
Speaker 4 (01:32:02):
We'll go ahead and take a break, and.
Speaker 5 (01:32:04):
When we come back, we'll review the first half highlights
and have scores from the area again here at halftime,

The Matthews Honda Acurra High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 5 (01:39:26):
Back here at Harding High School halftime as the pleasant
band on the field right now, pleasant enough fourteen to three,
overhearding and very entertaining first half. It's a lot of
mistakes both ways, but a lot of fun in watching
this game, and we kind of felt like going into
(01:39:49):
this game, both teams a lot of motivation in trying
to get the victory tonight, and you can see it
in the way they're playing.
Speaker 4 (01:39:58):
Yeah, you know the beginning of the game.
Speaker 10 (01:40:00):
You know, obviously Harding's jacked up from last a loss
from last year, but that only lasts for so long.
You got to settle down and play good football. Pleasant
They came in with the idea and the coach, Wesler
talked about being more consistent on everything they do, and
tonight offensively, they've established some things with Lowry with the
(01:40:21):
running game, and also Neeterhauser and really the defense have
come up with some really big plays. Big interceptions have
given them great field position, and you can't give a
team that kind of field position two or three times
in a row and expect them not to be able
to put the ball in the end zone. And then
they were able to do that twice. They've got a
(01:40:41):
fourteen to three lead here at halftime, and Harding's got
to figure out a way to keep their guys with composure.
You know, if Pleasant gets another score in the second half,
if they're the first ones to score, this could be
this could be an entirely different kind of a ball game.
But Harding has got to dedicate themselves to get on
board first in the second half, and then I think
(01:41:02):
we're gonna have a.
Speaker 5 (01:41:03):
Barn Burner down the stretch. Let's go through the first
half scoring. At the three h four mark in the
first quarter, the President struck first Jackson Shipley with a
thirty seven yard field goal that made the score three
to nothing. Didn't have any more scoring in the first period,
but then the second quarter, at the three p fifty
nine mark, Alec Colimber with an eighteen yard reception for
a touchdown Owen Lowry on the pass, Chase Van Houston
(01:41:27):
with the extra point, and that made it seven to three.
Spartans took the lead over the Presidents. Then at the
one zero six mark, Dylan Burns with a twenty four
yard reception for the touchdown from Owen Lowry Chase Van
Houston with the extra point made it fourteen to three.
Then right before halftime, Jackson Shipley came out for the
(01:41:48):
President's attempted a forty four yard field goal. He did
miss it, and so we go into halftime with the
Spartans up fourteen to three over the Prexies. We'll go
ahead and take another break. When we come back, we'll
have some of the other scores from the area. You're
listening to high school football on fourteen ninety WMR Right.

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 4 (01:46:15):
Back here at Harding High School.
Speaker 5 (01:46:17):
Matthews Honda Agra High School Game of the Week, still
a halftime pleasant on top, fourteen to three over Harding.
Right now, the Harding band out on the field, and
we were just talking about a coach. All the bands
do a great job, but Harding puts on an extravaganza
when they're out there.
Speaker 10 (01:46:36):
Yeah, that's the word to describe them. I'm telling you,
they've got different props. They've got like a scene backdrop,
palm trees, They've got all kinds of stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:46:47):
And for a few weeks it felt like palm tree weather.
I think we've got we've gotten completely out of that now. Yeah,
this is but if anybody would like to know what
perfect football weather is in Ohio, virtually no wind, no clouds,
full moon looking right at it.
Speaker 4 (01:47:06):
Yep.
Speaker 10 (01:47:06):
And uh, both both communities brought a pretty nice little
crowd here tonight, and uh, I think they're getting getting
a nice entertaining game too.
Speaker 5 (01:47:15):
And I've said it a lot when we brag on
all the schools. I really enjoy coming to Harding and
doing a you know, I meant it's grant actually, but
at Harding Stadium doing a football game, it's just it's
its own little area and it's such a beautiful facility here,
and they put on a great show no matter what.
They have fireworks, it's such a clean place, the press
(01:47:38):
box is great. It's just a really fun place to
go watch a football game.
Speaker 10 (01:47:42):
Yeah, I noticed when we were coming up the stairs
they've done some railing and looks like they're trying to
continue to keep things up.
Speaker 4 (01:47:50):
You know, you have an old structure.
Speaker 10 (01:47:52):
But talked to the athletic director here and he he said, yeah,
he says, we're trying to keep things up to code
and and really doing good job of it and playing
on the turf, especially the footing is as excellent and
tonight and really a nice, great night.
Speaker 5 (01:48:09):
For football, and Harding will host no doubt some tournament,
some playoff games later on in the regionals. They'll probably
be a host site for some of those regional semi
finals and maybe even more because it's such a good
facility here at Grant Middle School. Wanted to go through
some of the scores in the area. Colonel Crawford's up
(01:48:32):
fourteen to seven over Upper Sandusky at the half, Mohawk
up fourteen to seven over Carry at halftime. Gallion and
River Valley engaged in a battle right now. At halftime,
Gallion up by one, fourteen to thirteen over River Valley.
One thing we knew going into this game is that
Gallion has a pretty good or pretty good defense, one
(01:48:54):
of the better defenses in the league, and River Valley
has one of the better offenses in the league. Looks
like they're battling pretty hard with each other their coach,
so it'll be interesting to see how that one turns out.
Speaker 4 (01:49:07):
Yeah, remember when River Valley played who was that? Was
it Highland?
Speaker 10 (01:49:14):
Yeah, a couple of weeks ago. They were tight, real
tight ballgame or was it last week? It was last
last week? It was a real tight ball game and
neither team wanted to give in. And then finally River
Valley got a break. They went down and score to
kind of loosened them up, and they they came away
with the victory. I think it was like thirty one something,
but a thirty one to fourteen knowing indicative of how
(01:49:38):
tight the ballgame was. So if River Valley could play
that type of football and keep that same mentality, they
could possibly come out away with a win. And I
know this is at the end of the season where
that offense needs to be clicking on all cylinders.
Speaker 5 (01:49:52):
Winford up fourteen to thirteen over Buckeye Central Northmore twenty eight,
Cardington nothing, Graham twenty two North and nothing at the half.
Elgin up over Perry twenty four to thirteen at halftime.
Mount Gilliat thirty, Loudonville nothing in the second period, Centerberg
twenty seven, East Knox six, and clear Fork up over
(01:50:17):
Highland right now twenty seven to seven at the half.
Senekey East forty nine, Bsyrus six, Waysfield Goshen six, Ridgedale nothing.
I have a feeling that just hasn't been updated yet,
so I'll see if I can find most recent score
on that one, because it's listed that that's the first
quarter and then the big game in the MOAC tonight
(01:50:42):
shall be in Ontario. Right now, shall be up twenty
two to twenty one over Ontario at the half, So
it sounds like that one going to be a really,
really back and forth battle. We've seen Ontario this season,
haven't had a chance to see show, but we know
Shelby and that's definitely the class of the MOAC, both
(01:51:05):
of those teams.
Speaker 10 (01:51:05):
And that's great that they're playing right at the end
of the season. Both teams are kind of going buying
for the championship and also you know, trying to position
themselves for the playoffs. So obviously, definitely both teams are
really working hard striving for that win, and.
Speaker 4 (01:51:22):
That's how high school football is supposed to be.
Speaker 5 (01:51:25):
Now, if there's anybody that has tuned in and is
sitting here going, well, where are they going to have
the Guardians game on? I just want to make sure
you know the Guardians game tonight. Instead of it being
on fourteen ninety WMRNAM, it is on Buckeye Country ninety
four to three, So you can turn it, tune it
over to the FM station Buckeye Country ninety four three,
(01:51:47):
and listen to that game in its entirety. But if
you're listening to us, I don't know why you'd want
to switch over to that just yet.
Speaker 4 (01:51:53):
They could watch that and listen to us.
Speaker 10 (01:51:56):
A lot of times people will turn a game on
and if it was on TV, but obviously they can't
watch it on the radio. But yeah, yeah, well and
then the smooth, silky voice of Tom Hamilton.
Speaker 5 (01:52:08):
I mean, you don't want to miss out on that.
That's why people tune in on the radio.
Speaker 4 (01:52:11):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 5 (01:52:13):
And the Guardians last night a big comeback. The dreaded
Yankees are I mean, that's just a complete team. And
Guardians started off hot, We're looking really good, up by
two runs, and then all of a sudden, with the
best closer in baseball on the mound. Back to back
(01:52:34):
home runs to Aaron Judge and gen Carlo Stanton gives
the Yankees the lead going into the ninth inning. But
Big Christmas John Kenzie Noel, he came up big with
two outs and able to hit the home run to
tie the game. And then David Frye with just another
mammoth blast. I did see the Guardians are down two
(01:52:57):
one or two nothing after the top of the first,
but plenty of game to win into play. They're going
to have to scratch and claw in this series. There's
no doubt about it. Let's go ahead and and I
think I just got an update. What was What was
the update? I'm just trying to hear. So Wan Soto
(01:53:21):
is the one that hit the two run home run.
Thank you, Racelin. Back at the studio, I want to
throw it down to Scott real quick. Scott has an
injury update for us.
Speaker 2 (01:53:29):
Scott, Yeah, Pleasant will be without Christian Burns in the
second half with a leg injury. So Pleasant kind of
walking out a little bit somber, kind of realizing the situation.
But Christian was able to come out. He's with the
team on the sidelines. It's just they will not have
Christian Burns and that that that's one of their better
(01:53:49):
athletes that they have in their position. So we'll see
how that affects pleasant coming out and how that changes things.
He I did get to talk to him too a half.
He said he was just he made a weird cut
and he just heard it snap. And Turf is notorious
for that, guys. So he's not the first victim for that,
and he won't be the last.
Speaker 5 (01:54:09):
Thank you, Scott. And you hate to hear any kind
of injury, but when you're out there, I mean, he's
out there supporting his team. And the Spartans have dealt
with some injuries this season. I know that they're they're
mantra Like most every team is next man up. It
doesn't matter what grade you're in. If you're the next
one up, you go out there and you take that
(01:54:31):
player's place.
Speaker 10 (01:54:32):
Well, they've been you know, they've been given the field
position a couple of times, a little bit too many.
And when you have a team like that that's really
fighting to stay in a positive manner and they've come
off of a couple of losses that they really want
to shake off. And one way to do it is
to get a win, and they're really they they feel
(01:54:54):
it tonight. You know, the Spartans come over here once
again on a business trip, and you know, they knew
Harding was going to be up for him. They knew
they were going to have a tough battle. And everything
that Pleasant's got tonight has been really a tough road.
And right now, Harding's got an opportunity. Looks like Scott
gonna be one of the deep guys, you know, and
(01:55:14):
he's a guy. And they had a good return on
one of the other the second kickoff or Pleasant, and
they've got an opportunity to get great field position for
their own team once again.
Speaker 5 (01:55:24):
So Pleasant will be kicking off to Harding in the
second half, and Harding, you know, obviously would have loved
to have gotten that score right before halftime, but with
the mistakes that have been made to only be down
by eleven, they have to feel like, look, we're right
here in this game. The defense has played really well.
(01:55:44):
Other than a couple of long touchdown or long touchdown passes,
they have played very well. The run game has not
been able to get established for Pleasant, and they've put
pressure on Owen Lowry and that's the key with this
Pleasant offense, You've got to pressure Lowry to be able
to get that offense stopped. Yeah, and the first series
(01:56:05):
out of the box off.
Speaker 10 (01:56:07):
The second half is when you get to see the
adjustments offensive adjustments by each coach and also the defensive adjustments.
I think that Pleasant has been playing pretty good defense
with a couple of interceptions and a couple gifts from Harding.
But here's where we get to see an opportunity. What
kind of adjustments Harding is gonna make at halftime, whether
they're gonna spray with stay with what they have, or
(01:56:28):
whether they or not they're gonna kind of pack it
in and go back to running the football. You know,
with Keller and company, haz and ray J Scott harbolt
back deep for the Prexies and Van Houston kicking off
for the Spartans. You know, Parker Davis would be another
(01:56:49):
candidate to put back in the backfield because he is
very elusive when he gets the football and anytime he's
got it tonight and I know that he's anxious. He
keeps telling his coaches over here. You know I'm open
and I can help help out any way I can.
Speaker 5 (01:57:04):
Ray J Scott Harbolt takes it to the ten, up
ahead to the fifteen twenty and tackled at the thirty
four yard line. That's good field position first and ten
for the Prexies. Yeah, real nice return there. Harding has
real nice field position. Let's see what they're gonna do,
whether or not they're gonna pack it in and try
to run the football, or whether or not they're going
(01:57:27):
to continue to run the spread and try to move
the ball on the arm of Pennington right. So Pennington
will start out in the shotgun. He will have Keller
next to him to his right. I really like the
matchup over here with Scott Flank to the left. Look
like one on one coverage out here. And then Keller
(01:57:48):
goes to his left back to pass a pump fake
and Pennington steps up and there's a penalty flag looks
like a hold and Pennington I think had somebody open,
but he came off of him.
Speaker 10 (01:58:02):
They were they were trying to run a little bit
of a square in with Scott over here. I like
this coverage over here with Colimber and then he tried
to running up and out and he but I think
Pennington kind of gave up on him right at the
very beginning, and I saw Scott talking to the coach
(01:58:24):
and kind of pointing that way. So we'll see if
they can make that adjustment. But Harding's starting out real
bad here. After the first play of the second half.
Speaker 5 (01:58:32):
First and twenty on that holding Penald back to pass
is Pennington? He looks now he steps up again and
it's sacked like men, that's Menser.
Speaker 4 (01:58:43):
Yeah, I tell you what.
Speaker 10 (01:58:44):
That kid is really coming into his own here the
last couple of years. Last year was the first time
he played football, excuse me in a long time, and
he's really looks like he's gotten bigger.
Speaker 4 (01:58:57):
Yeah he's not real tall, but I'll tell you what.
It looks like.
Speaker 10 (01:58:59):
He's said up, he's gotten stronger, and he's got great
leverage in there, and when the quarterback tucks the ball,
that's when he's the most dangerous because he can hunt
him down.
Speaker 5 (01:59:10):
And made a real nice tackle on Pennington. Coach, do
you think Connor is getting antsy feet because of throwing
those interceptions? He's not wanting to throw the interception and
gives up maybe too soon. Well, there's no question there's
a fun right there, and now he picks it up.
Pennington's able to take it, and he does pick up
yardage a good run actually up ahead to about the
(01:59:34):
thirty four yard line, still going to be fourth and long.
But he just to me, coach, seems very jittery. Yeah,
he was a little bit jittery. I don't think he
expected the snap. Colinberg made a real nice hard hit
over here on the outside and looks like with the
clock running, didn't get out of bounds. So it's actually
(01:59:56):
third down because of the penalty. So third and ten,
ball is out the harding thirty four yard line. Pennington
with a snap now he rolls out Menzer almost gets
him again. He throws it, throws it away out of bounds.
Speaker 10 (02:00:12):
That was a good, good smart play there, not to
throw it downfield and possible in another interception.
Speaker 4 (02:00:20):
But he's being hunted down.
Speaker 10 (02:00:22):
He doesn't have a lot of time to throw, and
the Spartans are really getting a lot of pressure on him.
Speaker 5 (02:00:27):
So looks like the punt team is coming in. Forehearding
back to return will be number three Jase Trachtenberg or
no excuse me, might be Columber and back to punt
(02:00:58):
his Jackson ship play. That ball rolls all the way back.
That's actually Dylan Burns back there and down at the
twenty yard line. Good kick by Jackson Shipley about a
fifty yard kick, and that's where pleasant will take over.
Speaker 10 (02:01:14):
First and ten. Yeah, this is a pleasant football right now.
Fourteen to three, nine to forty seven to go in
the third quarter. Get the ball on the ground. They're
going to run time off the clock. He trying to
move the change, go for the big one once in
a while, but play controlled football, try to make not
make any penalties, be consistent on offense, and kind of
(02:01:38):
take the wind out of the sales. They get a
score early in this third quarter, then it's a new
ball game. First and ten for the Spartans. Lowry will
start in the shotgun with one back in the backfield,
and that'll be Niederhauser action across the mill and that
(02:02:01):
is Doll just in and now the hands of Burns.
He was open on the slant and incomplete brings up
second down.
Speaker 24 (02:02:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (02:02:11):
Real nice play there by number thirty eight. Oh no,
that's thirty that's the thirty Cayden pose Kaysen pause. Yeah,
he made a nice play in the couple plays in
the first half. Really tell you what Burns almost had
that one. That would have been a real big play
for Pleasant.
Speaker 5 (02:02:31):
Second down and ten back at the Pleasant twenty yard line,
Peter Hauser on the left side.
Speaker 4 (02:02:40):
Of Lowry.
Speaker 5 (02:02:42):
They faked the hair give it to Lowry or excuse
Meneter Hauser and he takes it straight ahead and maybe
again of two third down, it looked like it would.
That was a little you know, depending on where the
end went was with if the handoff was going to
happen or not.
Speaker 10 (02:02:57):
Right, a little option there on the play, and they
had to get the clock running, I know, Pleasant, when
you have a lead like this, you want to get
the clock running. Always try to shorten the game, you know,
with clock management. Play good football, play consistent, get off
the ball, nine to twelve to go, and this is
(02:03:17):
a crucial play not to make a mistake, because there's
nothing wrong with punting the ball and fourth down in
this situation, they're.
Speaker 5 (02:03:24):
Down in seven or the Spartans Lowry two step drop
in that one incomplete looking on the slant again, man
coverage and good coverage again by Caden Pose. They're trying
to pick on him and he's right there with the receiver.
Speaker 10 (02:03:42):
Yeah, Dylan Burns had real good position inside position on him,
but Lowry just kind of threw a little bit too
hard and kind of slung it there really kind of uncatchable.
Speaker 5 (02:03:53):
So back to return for Harding, Jaden Griffith and Juju
Glover eight fifty three left in the third period, Pleasant
still up fourteen to three Overhearting and back snap is
back end over end kick hits at the forty five,
(02:04:14):
back to the forty and rolls out of bounds at
about the thirty four yard line. That's where the Presidents
will take over. First and ten, Scott, I want to
get your opinions what you're seeing down there with Connor Pennington.
Speaker 2 (02:04:28):
It does look like he's a little bit gunshy, but
without a doubt he Pleasant defensive line mets are of course,
they're just completely going after and breaking through every gap
on the offensive line of Harding. Then that's just putting
a lot pressure because again Pennington does very well in
a three step drop and immediately getting rid of the ball,
(02:04:50):
but Plus is just making sure he can't even do that.
So Pleasant Pleasant defensive line is doing well, but the
offensive line from Harding really has to shore some things up.
Speaker 5 (02:05:01):
Thank you, Scott. First and ten ball is at the
Harding and thirty five yard line. Pennington turns throws it
complete across the forty up ahead, Halloway, yep, up ahead,
you about the forty two yard line. That's a good
reception there on first down. Get your confidence back.
Speaker 6 (02:05:22):
Well.
Speaker 10 (02:05:22):
One thing Harding I think has to do is you
can't score eleven points in one drive. They have to
just take care of business on one drive and then
go from there and throw it out again.
Speaker 5 (02:05:34):
Complete up ahead to Holloway. Holloway with the hot hen
that's Matthew's hont actor first down across the fifty into
pleasant territory at the forty nine.
Speaker 4 (02:05:42):
Yeah, Halloway six five.
Speaker 10 (02:05:45):
He's a taller kid going against uh looks like Lowry
over on that side. So they've got him matched up
and right now he's winning the battle.
Speaker 4 (02:05:55):
Holloway is.
Speaker 5 (02:05:57):
And now they bring Holloway over here to the near
side or no, excuse me. That's a Scott Harbolt run
there by Keller. Nice runoff tackle to the left side
and pick up about seven yards.
Speaker 10 (02:06:09):
Yeah, real nice run by Keller going up through there.
I really like him as a running back carrying the ball.
He doesn't have a lot of experience there, but you
need to get that offset, take the pressure off the
quarterback and run the football real nice game.
Speaker 5 (02:06:22):
Make that a gain of five. So second down and
five and Harding moving with a little bit of urgency
here they hand it off again to Keller. He cuts
through and gets close to a first down, and I
think he got it. That's Matthews Hondaker first down on
that run.
Speaker 4 (02:06:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (02:06:36):
One of the things that he's going to show you
is a hard nosed kid. He's not going to be
fearful of getting hit, and he's going to deliver some
punishment at the end of it each and every time
he carries the football.
Speaker 5 (02:06:46):
Ball is at the Pleasant thirty nine. Now Keller to
the outside across the thirty nine up to the thirty
five yard line, and Keller just seems to be picking
up some speed.
Speaker 10 (02:06:56):
Yeah, he doesn't seem to be getting tired at all
offensively here. He just running the ball three times in
a row. He's not asking to come out for a win.
He's doing whatever he can, putting himself on the line
here tonight at Harding second down and seven at the
Pleasant thirty six yard line, Prexy's with the ball down
fourteen to three. Pennington quick pass out to Harbolt and
(02:07:18):
he is out of bounds, but there is a penalty flag.
Speaker 4 (02:07:22):
Yeah, this is what they need.
Speaker 10 (02:07:25):
Harding needs to do. Without the penalty. They've got a
right nice methodical march going here the holding hole. Yeah,
they're really they're really having a real nice fine march
here of offensively pleasant's kind of giving him some ground.
Speaker 5 (02:07:47):
I don't know who the penalty was on other than
it being on Harding. So that's ten yard penalty. And
that was a really quick pass that it would be
very difficult to hold, but evidently he did. Second down
in seventeen. Now, they haven't used Parker Davis in a while.
Number fifteen four wide receivers back to pass his painting.
(02:08:10):
Now he rolls to his left, but he's sacked by
Sam Menzer off the back side.
Speaker 4 (02:08:16):
He's a sack machine, I'll tell you.
Speaker 10 (02:08:17):
He comes in, he's got leverage and he loves to
rush the quarterback and they when he gets close to him,
they usually don't get.
Speaker 4 (02:08:25):
Away from him.
Speaker 5 (02:08:26):
Eric and he looked like a free rusher off the
back side. I'm just wondering if he's getting jumped off
the line so quick. The offensive lineman can't just get
in front of him.
Speaker 4 (02:08:35):
Yeah, he's he's on the split side.
Speaker 10 (02:08:37):
Of course, there's both two split sides with usually have
twins over here on this side, looks like they're gonna
go with trips to the right, split to the left.
I really like this matchup over here with Scott with
single coverage. They are backed off of Ray j Scott
Harbolt and now they're.
Speaker 5 (02:08:52):
Looking his way. They go deep and he goes up
and he is covered by Colin Ber and it's say complete.
Speaker 10 (02:09:00):
Colinber was covering him like a glove and he was
going for the football also, and I like the matchup though.
Speaker 5 (02:09:08):
The ball was just thrown too far outside and Colinber
again on him like a glove. Just good coverage there
on the outside, and that will force Harding to punt
down fourteen to three with six minutes left in the
third period.
Speaker 10 (02:09:23):
So what they're doing, they're bringing his pleasants, bring that
safety up on the line of scrimmage and then bailing
him out just as the quarterback's calling the signals for
help on the backside here but didn't need it.
Speaker 4 (02:09:36):
Colinber with a nice play.
Speaker 5 (02:09:39):
And punt is off. Nice kick inside the ten, and
that's down at the one yard line. Inside the one
yard line, Jackson Shipley hitting a chip shot.
Speaker 10 (02:09:51):
Yeah, and a lot of times with this kind of surface,
the ball is gonna bounce right into the end zone.
But Shipley put some type of a spin on it
and really nice coverage by Harding. The ball bound straight
up and number twenty three Keaton Ward was there to
(02:10:11):
make the touchdown or the touch and Spartan's with their
they got the shadow of their goalpost right to their back.
Let's see if they can worm their way out of here.
Speaker 5 (02:10:20):
One thing I want to mention, Scott noticed on that
last offensive play for Harding you mentioned Parker Davis said
that Parker Davis was wide open on that. There seems
to be somebody open on each one. It's just a
matter of the quarterback being able to see them. So
first and ten and the Spartans starting off right back
(02:10:42):
on their goal line. The I formation up under center
as lowry and almost got Harding to jump off size,
but didn't hand off.
Speaker 4 (02:10:57):
And that is a gain of nothing. I think that was.
Speaker 5 (02:11:05):
I wasn't sure who it was that ran the ball.
Speaker 4 (02:11:08):
I was seven, that was.
Speaker 5 (02:11:10):
Okay, I couldn't see they're backed up into the end zone.
So that was actually a loss of one. So the
ball was on the two or is on the two?
They're saying it was on the that started on the three.
I thought he was down inside the one, so backed
(02:11:31):
up a loss of one. Second down and eleven at
the two yard line.
Speaker 4 (02:11:37):
Like Pleasant's gonna elect to go from a shotgun.
Speaker 5 (02:11:40):
Here and delay a game, So that's a half the
distance to the goal.
Speaker 10 (02:11:48):
I never could understand going from a shotgun on the
one yard line. You're on one yard line. But I
don't know if he's playing on running a because it's
an empty backfield. Probably just trying to run the ball
wherever he can. Yeah, keep the ball in the quarterback's hands.
Speaker 7 (02:12:04):
But so.
Speaker 4 (02:12:06):
Go ahead, coach.
Speaker 10 (02:12:06):
Well, I was just going to say, that's that's what
I'm thinking, because a lot of times Pleasant will run
the empty and just basically keep the ball, keep the
ball in the quarterback's hands.
Speaker 4 (02:12:14):
Looks like they're putting needter Houser back.
Speaker 5 (02:12:16):
There with him, all right, So shotguns second down in thirteen,
back to pass, they're going deep and out of the
reach of the intended receiver, and as that burns, it
was Fags was right there. That was cameraon Fags five
(02:12:36):
five junior. You couldn't have had better coverage there on
a receiver. I'll tell you that was very good. And
uh in five minutes to go, this is this is
something that the defensive backs for Harding need to be
aware of. They may try to throw it up and
get us to get a pass interference. So you've got
to stay on your guys, but don't get too handsy.
Speaker 4 (02:12:58):
Yeah, well they've got to.
Speaker 2 (02:13:01):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (02:13:01):
I think they're gonna keep the ball on Lowery's hands. Look,
they've got Niederhauser back there with him, maybe as a
lead blocker or.
Speaker 4 (02:13:07):
Maybe faking to him.
Speaker 5 (02:13:09):
Lowry rolls to his left, he throws it out there.
It's complete, gets away from one defender. But then taking
out a bounds and I'll bring up fourth down and
penalty flag. Ah no, seeing then Harding has a really
good hit over there.
Speaker 4 (02:13:27):
And it looks like it's gonna be maybe on them. Wow.
See that's the thing that you can't do. And I
guess yep, looks like.
Speaker 10 (02:13:41):
Yeah, see, they make a great play, could be fourth down,
and then they go and get a fifteen yarder on him.
That's Uh, they had an opportunity here to get great
field position.
Speaker 2 (02:13:53):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (02:13:54):
And these are the things, these are the things that
coach Coach Williamson has set it over and over. We
gotta quit shooting ourselves in the foot. That was a
great That was a great stop by the Proxies right there,
a great stop by the Prexies. So now it's first
(02:14:16):
and ten for the Spartans. Out ahead to the twenty
one yard line and Spartan's up fourteen to three. Now
going from up under center, now going back into shotgun,
lots of shifting, delayed handoff to Niederhauser, a gain of
(02:14:37):
about four. I want to throw down to Scott real quick.
I'm sure you didn't hear what was going on down there,
but what did you see?
Speaker 2 (02:14:46):
Well, the tackle was a hard tackle, but they ended
up getting the tony for some shitter chatter after the
plate happened, and Coach Williamson did ask to officially said,
and you know, in a game like this, you're gonna
make a call like so Yeah, Coach Williamson wasn't pleased,
but it wasn't please at the call either. But here
we go.
Speaker 10 (02:15:06):
Well, I know, especially in high school football, you can't
do tawning. And but that's the thing that Harding's got
to understand is when they get a little bit of success,
they can't shoot themselves.
Speaker 4 (02:15:16):
In the foot like that. And I know it's difficult.
The emotions are.
Speaker 5 (02:15:19):
Running high, but they had a great opportunity to get
the ball back down fourteen to three and get closer.
But right now, Pleasant this the momentum is because of
that penalty, the momentum has switched back in Pleasant's favor,
and at least they're out to where they can run
a little bit of an offense. And now if they
(02:15:39):
have to punt the ball, they have a little bit
better feel position to be able to do that.
Speaker 4 (02:15:43):
So they're breathing a little bit easier.
Speaker 10 (02:15:46):
Because of that Penaltyneterhouser ranted on second down no gain,
brings up a third down and back to pass and
complete but hit right away at the first down mark
that he got it, Colin ber he does make the reception.
Speaker 5 (02:16:03):
I think that's enough for Matthews Hondakra first down. Very
good cut by colinber Eric. He made the cut right exactly.
Speaker 10 (02:16:09):
If when he catches the ball, if he gets hit,
it's a first down, real smart play.
Speaker 4 (02:16:14):
Lowry put the ball right on the money.
Speaker 10 (02:16:17):
The momentum has switched back to Pleasant right now with
three eighteen to go up fourteen to three. This is
their kind of situation being up in the game with
the clock running in the third quarter. Alec colimber five
receptions for forty nine yards one touchdown. He also has
an interception on defense. First and ten up under center
is Lowry.
Speaker 5 (02:16:38):
He rolls to his left under pressure and incomplete does
get that ball off. Good pressure there by by Landon Adams.
Speaker 10 (02:16:50):
Yeah, it was kind of a throwaway past there. Lowry
getting great pressure by the Adams. And I'll tell you
what that young man played defensive end his heart out
tonight at Harding Stadium. Is really working hard here as
a senior, and I really like that kid as a
football player.
Speaker 5 (02:17:10):
Two fifty four left of the third period, Pleasant up
fourteen to three. Second down and ten ball is at
the Pleasant thirty two yard line. Spartans using some clock
as well. Lowry throws the pass out complete. It looks
like another catch by Dylan Burns. That's enough for Matthew
(02:17:32):
Hontaker first down.
Speaker 10 (02:17:33):
Yeah, we've seen him and Dylan Burns and Lowry hookups
several times in the previous games. I believe it was
a Whitehall game, and I think those are the kind
of things they need to do. Play possession football, move
the change. But you like for the receiver if possible,
to stay in bounds if he can. But on that
one he had to go out of bounds because of
his momentum. But right now the Spartans are breathing a
(02:17:55):
little bit easier. They're on a little bit of a march.
Speaker 5 (02:17:58):
Not quite a first down, second down in one now
it's a quarterback sneak and that was a false start.
Speaker 10 (02:18:06):
Yeah, so they shoot themselves in the foot here and uh,
Spartan us the hearting Presidents.
Speaker 4 (02:18:15):
Getting a break here, So a loss of five on
that penalty.
Speaker 10 (02:18:24):
Spartan's forced with a possible passing situation here.
Speaker 5 (02:18:38):
To forty nine left here in the third period, second
down and six, so I believe we're figuring out maybe
third down. So there's a conference on the field with
the coaches and so yep, third down. Pleasant fans aren't
(02:19:07):
happy about that, but they're on the other side of
the field, so we can't hear that.
Speaker 4 (02:19:13):
Third down and six.
Speaker 5 (02:19:18):
Well, here's another opportunity for harding to step up here
and stop Pleasant third down, they will still have a
pretty good field position after a punt that they've got
to force Pleasant to punt the football. So now another
conference by the officials, and.
Speaker 4 (02:19:43):
I don't know that.
Speaker 5 (02:19:45):
There seems that there must be one that doesn't think
that's right.
Speaker 4 (02:19:49):
So we got a hung jury out of the jury.
Speaker 5 (02:19:52):
Yeah, that's a good way of putting it. Coach, hung jury.
Speaker 4 (02:19:57):
That's all it takes.
Speaker 5 (02:20:00):
So now they apparently all agree where they're going to
dinner at after the game. And they moved it back
to second down. It was a roll out complete and
if you know Brett mcquarie, he's pretty upset right now.
Second down they move it back to second down. But
(02:20:20):
that's why they keep rubber bands on their fingers.
Speaker 4 (02:20:22):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (02:20:23):
So rolling out, there's a penalty flag and now they
complete it up ahead to the forty. But I think
it's coming back. Yeah, it's coming back. They called that
one early and that was Cole Bailey with the reception
but a hold, So that's going to So that's going
to make it second down and sixteen.
Speaker 12 (02:20:49):
In the past.
Speaker 5 (02:20:51):
And you know coch Or, you know, I'm interested in
Scott what is Kos's reaction down there.
Speaker 2 (02:20:58):
Well, there's been a whole lot of yelling either way,
and of course, like you said, the Pleasant fans are
showing their joyous cheer as well. So you know, I
don't I don't know what the second third down. I
don't know if they were thinking, maybe because of Pey,
that it should have been second down from what I remember,
but as you can hear, there's been some discrepancies of opinion.
Speaker 5 (02:21:20):
Yeah, that'll happen in these caves. I thought it was
second down also, So clock is running two five second
down and sixteen lowry back to pass slip screen underneath
to Colinber. He gets through up ahead to the forty
and he's tackled from behind. But that's another Matthew Sontagra
first down.
Speaker 10 (02:21:37):
I'll tell you, Colinberg is really playing a ballgame here.
Looks like we got another hole. Oh man, boy, that
hurts because he had a heck of a run there.
Man through there, that'll kill you.
Speaker 5 (02:21:50):
And that's we've seen it happen both ways here in
this third quarter where these penalties have really hurt both teams.
The only thing that's helping Pleasant in this whole sit
situation the clock is running, they have the ball right.
Speaker 4 (02:22:03):
They're in a good situation here.
Speaker 10 (02:22:06):
They still could punt the football after all of this
clock's gonna keep running. They're trying to shorten this third
quarter getting the fourth quarter. But here Harding once again
has a great opportunity.
Speaker 5 (02:22:18):
They've got to get fired up on defense and stop them,
and they're gonna have great field position, probably around the
fifty yard line after we get all said and done.
Speaker 4 (02:22:29):
But we've got to move from second.
Speaker 5 (02:22:31):
To just so we all know, it's still second down,
still second down, So second down in twenty two, ball
is at the twenty lowry up under center. He hands
it off on a long handoff to Niederhauser. Gain of
about one brings up third down. Finally, coach, I like.
Speaker 10 (02:22:50):
The call, running the football, get that clock moving. And
so right now they're playing for the punt. Yeah, they're
playing not to make the mistake of giving Harding the
ball back inside the thirty yard line or twenty yard line,
but they're going to try to do something here to
maybe get some yardage, and hey, who knows if they
(02:23:15):
can break break a couple tackles like colinber did and
maybe break it for a first down, but they can't hold,
and they're going to get ready to punt the football
and play defense.
Speaker 5 (02:23:27):
And Pleasant goes ahead and takes the time out. Here
on third and twenty they were letting the clock run
down fifty two seconds left in the third period, Pleasant
up fourteen to three, and again the game so far
stats wise, I'd say the player that's having quite an
impact on this game Alec Colimber. Five receptions forty nine yards.
(02:23:50):
He's averaging nine point eight yards on reception. He has
a touchdown and an interception. Just had another really nice
reception for a good gain, unfortunately came back because of
holding penalty, So you didn't count that one as one
of his receptions. I did, well, I can't I can't
count it, and I'm not the one keeping track of
the I'm watching the life stats right now, so they
(02:24:14):
did not count that one. But Alec has been one
of those players this season for the for the Spartans
who has been able to be a quality receiver, but
not always the featured guy. Just that guy that if
we need a quick reception, maybe pick up that first down,
we'll throw it to him.
Speaker 4 (02:24:33):
And this is in this game.
Speaker 5 (02:24:34):
Now we're seeing he's got some speed, he's got some
wheels in good hands.
Speaker 4 (02:24:38):
Yeah, I think.
Speaker 10 (02:24:39):
I also like Dylan Burn's matchup over there on the outside,
and they did run a couple quick outs with him,
picked up some pretty good yardage. Bailey caught one, but
it was called back. So they've got a few guys
that they're able to spread the ball out to third
down and twenty for the Spartans back in their own end.
(02:25:01):
Lowry back to pass. He's looking down the sideline.
Speaker 5 (02:25:03):
Now he steps up, he eludes one defender, now cuts
the outside up ahead to the thirty and out of
bounds at the thirty five and not enough for the
first down, but he does pick up some good yardage
to be able to pin Pleasant maybe a little bit deeper,
not give them quite as good field position on the punverage.
Now another flag on the Pleasant sideline.
Speaker 10 (02:25:28):
That was Lucas Keller on the tackle on Lowry before
the flag came out.
Speaker 5 (02:25:35):
Now that happened, I mean, this was ten seconds after
the play ended.
Speaker 10 (02:25:40):
I mean, it's okay to be happy about a great
defensive play, but you can't celebrate to the point where
they're gonna call a penalty on you.
Speaker 5 (02:25:49):
And another unsportsmanlike conduct again right over there on that
opposite sideline. And it doesn't matter if it's the first
guy that says something the second guy. It's always the
second guy that they'll see. And you're doing you have
to be aware if you're harding. We're on the other
(02:26:11):
side at the Pleasant bench, you can't. You gotta expect
that somebody might say something. We can't respond, and you
can't be the one to say something first. Over there.
Speaker 10 (02:26:21):
Well, one of the things you could do is take
the kid out for at least one play so you
can talk to him, whoever it is.
Speaker 5 (02:26:28):
If that's what's happening. If it's the same one, I
don't really know. Yeah, we don't know who.
Speaker 4 (02:26:33):
I mean, you've got to call a time out, do something.
Speaker 10 (02:26:36):
But right now, presidents are doing everything they can to
keep pleasant marching down the field.
Speaker 5 (02:26:43):
So first and ten for the Spartans, forty three seconds
left in the second quarter, and now a deep pass
by Lowry and Burns does a nice job adjusting, but
he can't make the pass or the reception. And good
coverage there by Cameron Fags, Yeah, real nice.
Speaker 10 (02:27:04):
Coverage, and it was kind of a dogfight going down
Burns wanted to flag, but real nice defense, Pleasant not
wasting any time to go up top. You could see
they have a breath of life there after worming their
way with Harding's help on two unsportsmanlike penalties, and Pleasant
(02:27:26):
has an opportunity right now with thirty seven seconds to
go if you're just tuning in up fourteen to three
to put more points on the board and still having
the football.
Speaker 5 (02:27:37):
So second down and ten ball is at the Pleasant
forty nine yard line. But this is a drive that
has been kept alive by two miscues by the spart
of the Prexies. A ball going straight ahead there, dive
played by Niederhauser, gain a four brings up third down,
(02:28:00):
Pleasant has been backed up even into their own end
zone and Harding gifting them to fifteen yard unsportsmanlike conduct
penalties when they were setting up to punt practically, and
that has been just huge in this third period for
the Prexies. Prexies are lucky right now to be done
(02:28:20):
or down fourteen to three with the opportunities that they
have given Heart a Pleasant in this game. Well that's
the end of the third period and fourteen to three
is the lead for pleasant, but this has been a
very crazy game so far and you don't want to
miss it. Stick around for the fourth period. You're listening

Speaker 9 (02:29:44):
The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 5 (02:29:51):
Starr of the fourth period here at Harding High School,
Pleasant up fourteen to three, third down and seven.
Speaker 4 (02:29:57):
For the Spartans.
Speaker 5 (02:30:00):
As they have the ball delayed handoff to Niederhauser. He
only picks up about one and it brings up fourth down.
And if I'm a Harding player, just walk away right now,
walk away and try to get the ball back is
what they need to do. This game still has to
mean something to them.
Speaker 10 (02:30:18):
And you know when if one of your buddies is
causing you to have a lot of obstacles here, you've
got which they will get the ball back with a
fourth and six. This would be a good time for
a fake because Harding seems to be in a little
bit disarray right now. Fourth and six a very manageable situation,
(02:30:42):
so Pleasant back to punt. Van Houston gets the kick off.
Speaker 5 (02:30:47):
Nice kick that hits at the five does roll into
the end zone, so Harding will take over first and
ten at their own twenty coach, what if you're if
you're harding After everything that they went through in that
third period, they've got the ball, the game is still
within reach.
Speaker 10 (02:31:02):
What you tell your team, well, this series, you can
only get seven or eight on one drive. So that's
what they have to dedicate themselves too. They can't get
eleven points on one drive. So they've got to get
the keep the ball. I like Keller running the football.
I like Davis Parker. Davis, get him the ball somehow.
(02:31:22):
It doesn't have to be a long pass. Just run
a quick screen with him, run that jet sweep with him.
Control the game. They've got, you know, a whole quarter left,
and they go down and score. They get their Daubers
back up, they play good defense. Anything can happen.
Speaker 5 (02:31:39):
First and ten, Pennington in the shotgun, ask Keller next
to him, two wide receivers on each side. Now a
man in motion back to passes Painton. He goes downfield, underthrown,
intercepted at the forty up ahead to the thirty. And
that's the third interception of the night. And that was Lowry.
(02:32:01):
With the interception, he was beaten, but that pass was
just underthrown.
Speaker 4 (02:32:06):
Really bad.
Speaker 10 (02:32:07):
Yeah, the type of pass he threw was like down
the middle, skinny post. He had no air under the football.
Eric was a line drive fast. He should have got
the ball up in the air and the defensive back
was sitting there waiting on it. You're right, he was
beat deep. But Pennington just made another mistake here, Costing
(02:32:28):
Harding to go back on defense, and you cannot keep
giving a team second, third, and fourth chances. And I
look for Pleasant to really get riled up here on
this drive and put it in the end zone. Knocking
on the door here on about the twenty four yard line.
Speaker 5 (02:32:45):
So it's first and ten for the Spartans at the
twenty four yard line, hand off on a little counterplay,
nice tap. They're in the backfield though, lost one yard,
brings up second down.
Speaker 10 (02:33:05):
You know, they have an opportunity here to get you
at least go in the field goal range here, you know,
go up another three points, get some kind of points
out of this. But it is just they're just a
little bit of way of just getting something going here.
I don't know, the defense seems like they've been out
(02:33:26):
on the field this whole second half.
Speaker 5 (02:33:28):
Yeah, Harding, absolutely so. Second down and eleven for the
Spartans hand off goes the Eaterhauser and he's tackled right away,
maybe got a half a yard. And now it's third down,
and I don't know that. I mean, Pleasant might throw
(02:33:49):
it here, but it's probably going to be something real
short and underneath. I don't think they're going to want
to try to risk it. I know they want to
get the touchdown, but you don't want to stop the
clock right.
Speaker 10 (02:34:00):
You want to try to shorten this game and play
play their game, which is play out in front. They're
up fourteen to three, nine fifty three to go. They
want to be methodical. They've got the field clock right
in front of them. Don't snap the ball until it
gets down around maybe five seconds or less.
Speaker 4 (02:34:15):
If they can.
Speaker 5 (02:34:19):
Third down and eleven, fake the handoff, now roll out,
and that is so I can complete about a pickup
of about five.
Speaker 10 (02:34:30):
Looks like Bailey over there on a sliding catch right
on the outside, and let's see.
Speaker 4 (02:34:35):
If he stayed stayed in picked up a nice gain
on that.
Speaker 9 (02:34:39):
Eric.
Speaker 5 (02:34:40):
Yeah, So now fourth and six manageable. And if I'm Pleasant,
you know, hey, we we can try to get him
to jump off sides. We can try to pick up
the first down, take as much time off the clock
as we can. That's the first thing I would do.
Go up and if you have to call time out
right the very end.
Speaker 10 (02:35:00):
And that's what they did in the first half in
that situation to get a manageable three instead of a
manager or two or one instead of a manageable six.
Speaker 5 (02:35:11):
And they did just that, Coach. And you know, I'm
watching watching the sidelines. We're right here behind the Harding sidelines,
and I'm definitely seeing some emotion from some of the
players from Harding. Scott, you're right down there. What's some
of the things you're seeing right now.
Speaker 2 (02:35:29):
Yeah, there's some players coming off and again, like as
you said, very emotional. Just I've made it frustrated it
some of the situations, frustrated themselves, frustrated with each other.
But as you guys mentioned, when you consider the defense,
they have not really been complaining all that much. They've
just been going out and doing business. And guys, again
(02:35:52):
you mention they've been on the field a lot, and
considering how much they've been on a field, and they're
still holding flags of the fourteen and holding is what
they have that speaks Wiliams so they got a hold
one more time to give the offensive chance.
Speaker 4 (02:36:05):
Though, yes they do, and now you know if they
do well.
Speaker 10 (02:36:10):
Some of the offensive guys are sitting over here behind, uh,
in front of us, down close to the bench, and uh,
it's like they're I don't know, they're like they're defeated already,
and I really hate to see that. They've got a
they've got a bond together and next time they get
the ball, they've got to put together a drive.
Speaker 4 (02:36:28):
They still have an opportunity here.
Speaker 5 (02:36:31):
Fourth down and six low snap, Lowry rolls to his left,
he's looking throws it out and that is incomplete a
flagged thrown though that was intended for Colin Berr. Let's
see what the call is. I think it's against pleasant.
Speaker 7 (02:36:50):
That is.
Speaker 10 (02:36:51):
Yeah, they're having a block in the back or a hold,
excuse me, a hold unpleasant. Yeah, they're having a real
hard time with Lannon Adams over here on defensive end
for harding. He's really putting pressure and they've got a
pretty much hold wrap up to keep him from getting
to the quarterback. He's he's a beast over here on
the as a defensive end. He's really playing his heart out.
(02:37:12):
It for Harding tonight.
Speaker 5 (02:37:14):
So the defense did their job. Now, if you're Harding
on offense number one, Pennington, you've got to just clear
everything that's happened before now out and there's still time.
I mean, that's the thing, you know, pleasants down to
one timeout. They've been able to control the clock. But
(02:37:35):
if you can get down there and make a score,
this gets real interesting. First down and ten for the Prexies,
ball is at the twenty yard line. Pennington throws it
out complete. That's the Parker Davis to the twenty up ahead.
Nice game there by Parker Davis up to the twenty
(02:37:55):
five and the twenty eight yard lines where he ends up.
Speaker 4 (02:37:58):
Well, see the thing that was real nice.
Speaker 10 (02:38:00):
We really like him to go to Parker Davis, but
he's got to get out of bounds and stop the clock.
Speaker 4 (02:38:05):
Just keep the clock running.
Speaker 10 (02:38:06):
But Harding is going to a little bit of a
kind of a hurry up mode here, being down two scores.
Speaker 5 (02:38:12):
Ball actually tackled at the twenty six yard line. Pennington
completes it out for the Matthews Hondaker first down to Holloway.
That moves the ball ahead and moves the chain all
day long, all day long.
Speaker 10 (02:38:26):
Because Pleasant's gonna give him that little five yard out,
They're gonna give him that first down. They're gonna try
to keep it in front of him, and that's Harding
has to be patient. They have to keep their poise
under pressure here and try to put together a little
drive even if it takes him another ten.
Speaker 5 (02:38:41):
Plays plenty of time eight forty two in counting Pleasant
up fourteen to three. Pennington goes right back out to
Holloway across the forty.
Speaker 4 (02:38:51):
But he's got to get out of bounds well.
Speaker 5 (02:38:53):
And that's a good job by colinber tackling him right
away and keeping him in bounds.
Speaker 10 (02:38:57):
Yes, it is, and that situation on DP defense also.
But the Harding receivers have got to understand, you know,
they need it. They need to drive, so they've got
to conserved time the best they can.
Speaker 4 (02:39:09):
The clock's running. With a twenty forty go in the
fourth quarter.
Speaker 5 (02:39:12):
That was a Matthews Hontaker first down swing pass to
ray J Scott Harbold across the forty fifty and down
for another Matthews Hontaker first down to the Pleasant forty
seven yard line.
Speaker 4 (02:39:23):
Yeah, I really like hardball with the ball too.
Speaker 10 (02:39:25):
They don't get him the ball much and him with
him on the outside, he could really be a game breaker.
Speaker 4 (02:39:31):
Harding has kind.
Speaker 10 (02:39:32):
Of loosened up a little bit. They have to be patient.
I like these short passes and they're keeping the chains moving.
Speaker 5 (02:39:41):
Pennington hands it to Keller. He runs it up for
about three yards. Nice good carry on first down there
brings up a second and seven.
Speaker 10 (02:39:49):
Yeah, he's really mixing it up right now with some
short passes. He gives it to Keller to keep the
defensive honest but pleasant. They really don't care at this point.
They're giving him what they can, but they're going to
give him things in front of him and take away
the long pass.
Speaker 5 (02:40:07):
Oh bad snap the painting. He does get it. He's
looking downfield, rolls to his right now, takes off, able
to make something out of nothing. And that looked to me,
boy I was close to being a late hit out
of bounds. And now we had a pleasure Hardings player.
Speaker 4 (02:40:28):
I don't even think he's a player. Well, standing on
the side.
Speaker 5 (02:40:32):
It might be an injured player. And he touched a
Pleasant player and now that's a fifteen yard penalty.
Speaker 4 (02:40:44):
And that's just man.
Speaker 10 (02:40:46):
See you see a lot of times I don't think
a lot of times the officials call hits to the
facing helmet, and that was very close to being that.
And then then somebody on the sidelines did something.
Speaker 5 (02:41:05):
I think it was an injured player, but I'm not sure.
He doesn't one of the coaches, just he doesn't have
a jersey on. I think he's just a kid that's
down there. I'm not real sure, so I can't really say,
but wow, bad situation right here, and see what happens
how they sort this all out. I do think that
(02:41:27):
it was it could have been called a late hit.
It was definitely close, and it was a hard hit Pennington.
I got to give him a lot of credit. They're
offset offsetting penalties, so at least the referees realize this
is a chippy game and it was going both ways.
Now what I want to say, there is going to
be a replay of second down. Pennington got a bad
(02:41:52):
snap as personal foul against the Spartans sportsmanlike against Harding,
and so they're going they're going to count it all
off both ways, which I'm not sure why they did that.
But while I'm getting back to Connor, Pennington did a
(02:42:14):
great job of making something happen on that play. He
got a bad snap, he rolled out, didn't try to
force the pass, and he actually made a really good gain.
So it's second down or third down and four. Excuse me,
third down and four. I would have thought with offsetting
(02:42:36):
penalties that you replay the down, but I guess not.
Snap back pennting complete. That's enough for the first down.
Matthews Hondaker first down up ahead at the thirty six
yard line.
Speaker 10 (02:42:48):
So Harding has got a change. I think they moved
the change. Yeah, they got a first down and seven
five to go. Fifth clock's going to be running fourteen
to three. The receivers from Hardy have got to try
to get out of bounds, pick up what they can
and get out of bound.
Speaker 4 (02:43:07):
Stop the clock.
Speaker 5 (02:43:08):
Pennington looking now, he rolls to his left. He's looking,
doesn't have anyone now. He takes off on his own,
slides down in bounds. He should have run out of bounds.
He may have to run out of bounds.
Speaker 10 (02:43:22):
You cannot go down in bounds when you're down two
scores six fifty four to go.
Speaker 4 (02:43:29):
Just run out of bounds.
Speaker 5 (02:43:30):
He had a defender coming up on him and he
was running towards the sidelines, just run out of bounds.
Speaker 4 (02:43:35):
He had the defender coming up on him.
Speaker 5 (02:43:37):
You just yeah, but he had room to run out
of bounds. I don't know, but that keeps the clock running.
Six forty second and seven. Pennington rolls to his right,
he's looking looking, throws it out.
Speaker 4 (02:43:53):
There and caught.
Speaker 5 (02:43:54):
That's that is he look like an old man, Parker Davis,
and he caught that thing over his head with one
foot in bounds as it was going out of bounds up.
Speaker 4 (02:44:09):
Ahead to about the fifteen yard line.
Speaker 5 (02:44:12):
And that's a first Matthews hont Aker first down for
the President.
Speaker 4 (02:44:16):
He got out of bounds.
Speaker 5 (02:44:17):
Eric so first and ten swing pass out, bad pass there,
intended for Ray j. Scott Harribolt brings up second down.
You know, I've been watching Parker Davis the whole game.
Go over to the coaches and just tell him, you know,
kind of showing. You know, he he feed me, get
me the ball. I'm I feel good. I want to
(02:44:39):
I want to do something to help the team.
Speaker 10 (02:44:40):
And I'm telling you this is one situation where I
really believe him because he's he has done a great job.
Speaker 5 (02:44:47):
They've got him out there in the middle. Receiver and
he kind of gets lost out there. Coach, where's that
little shovel pass we saw to him earlier in the
season when he's in motion.
Speaker 4 (02:44:57):
Well, I like, I like that shovel pass. I called
it a jet sweep pass.
Speaker 9 (02:45:01):
Caught.
Speaker 5 (02:45:02):
It was actually tipped, good defense, but caught thereby Holloway
at about the five yard line. Yeah, he tipped it
up in the air instead of knocking it down. Oh,
they're saying it was incomplete. They say he juggled it.
Speaker 4 (02:45:15):
Yeah, he didn't have it.
Speaker 5 (02:45:16):
He didn't have it. Boy, it looked like it was
a catch. He was out of bounds and he was
just juggling the ball. So now a time outs. I'm
not sure all the play clocks went out. Yeah, the
play clock went out, so they're letting everybody know the
(02:45:38):
play clocks are off, so they'll be keeping it on
the field. Let me throw it down to Scott real quick, Scott.
Speaker 2 (02:45:46):
Yeah, he first had in his hands, then his feet
went out of bounds in the mess. He fell out
of bounds. Then he caught the ball between his legs,
so it was out of bounds. It was not a catch.
Speaker 4 (02:45:57):
Yeah, that's what we saw from up here. Scott.
Speaker 5 (02:45:59):
Thank you've hear that Scott. Third down and ten and
it's at the fifteen. Pennington throws it complete up ahead
to Harble to flag on the play as Harble scores
the touchdown. Two penalty flags a chip a chop block
(02:46:19):
by Harding, Yeah, and another penalty flag and that's on Pennington. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:46:24):
It's he's just got a.
Speaker 27 (02:46:27):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (02:46:32):
This is just rediculous, and it's not. You know, sometimes
you'll hear me say it's ridiculous and you think I'm
talking about the referees.
Speaker 7 (02:46:42):
I'm not.
Speaker 5 (02:46:43):
This is you cannot have a meltdown like this if
you're Harding. Even with the chop block call, it does
set you back, but you're still in field goal range.
Now the unsportsmanlike penalty for running your man mouth just
caused you to take your team out of field goal
(02:47:04):
the official to the official and you're the leader of
the team. So and that just I mean, it just
annoys me.
Speaker 4 (02:47:16):
It's uh, really difficult, really difficult to watch.
Speaker 5 (02:47:23):
So it's third down in thirty.
Speaker 4 (02:47:28):
So back to pass.
Speaker 5 (02:47:35):
Pennington steps up and he's going to be sacked at
about the line of scrimmage, maybe a loss of one.
So Jake Mencer was in there. Twenty one was in there.
That's uh got to give him.
Speaker 4 (02:47:55):
That's Brody Ringer.
Speaker 10 (02:47:57):
He's only fresh with a freshman he's getting some tell
you that we've seen him early in the season.
Speaker 4 (02:48:02):
He's playing a.
Speaker 10 (02:48:03):
Lot of football for Pleasant as a freshman. So he's
the little brother a Brennan Ringer number zero playing inside linebacker.
He's been in a lot of stuff. He's one of
the defensive leaders out there. As whereas Tracktenburg Tracktensburg has
got a kind of a cast and a soft cast
on his hand. Playing well tonight there's Jackson Shipley.
Speaker 5 (02:48:26):
He punts it a little rollout punt and able to
down it again inside the one yard line. Well, Jackson
Shipley's doing the job tonight.
Speaker 10 (02:48:39):
Yes he did. He got the field gold. He's got
two beautiful punts inside of the one. I was gonna
say inside of the ten, but he got him inside.
Speaker 4 (02:48:46):
Of the one.
Speaker 10 (02:48:47):
And Pleasant's goal right now is to try to pick
up a first down and get the clock moving. And
probably I know for them, they're gonna want to try
to get it down under three men or so at
least take a couple of minutes off the clock.
Speaker 5 (02:49:03):
Well, you got to think that it's going to be
an all out blitz here for the Presidents. At this point,
you've just got to stack the line and make it
just as uncomfortable as possible for Pleasant.
Speaker 10 (02:49:16):
Well some coaching points. You know, next week coach is
going to talk to the talk to the whole team.
But in that situation, being down two scores, they had
an opportunity to probably have at least another three or
so minutes or more if the receivers get out of
bounds and if Pennington gets out of bounds on that
one run.
Speaker 5 (02:49:37):
So it looks like Pleasant starting off under center and
trying to run the ball and maybe a yard I
think about a half a yard on that carry. I
think was Niederhauser on the carry.
Speaker 10 (02:49:49):
You would like to acknowledge the offensive line for Pleasant,
that's Henry Potter, Brown and Flinchball. Excuse me for the
uh hesitation on announcing their names, But I've got a
I've got a program here, and I swear the lettering
(02:50:13):
is an eighth inch.
Speaker 5 (02:50:14):
It's like the bottom row of an eye chart, and
we're I have glasses on it. We're not getting any younger. Yeah,
and envision gets poor. Not you you I don't think focals.
I think you're getting younger, but I'm not. But I'll
tell you what it's it's very difficult to see Lowry
with the run and stacked up Landon Adams another No,
(02:50:36):
that was the ball that was.
Speaker 4 (02:50:39):
Tossing the ball.
Speaker 10 (02:50:40):
I saw something in the air and I didn't know
if it was any shady yellow or the shade of brown.
Speaker 5 (02:50:45):
So ball or clock is still running. Four h three
left in the fourth period, Pleasant up fourteen to three.
Pleasant has three times or excuse me, Harding has three
time outs. But they've got to get this ball back
third down and seven and again Harding, if they can
just keep their heads about them be able to get
(02:51:06):
this done and run here byneter Hauser, he's stacked up.
Speaker 10 (02:51:16):
Like the way he has two hens on the football.
Eric So now Herding with some time, not too much,
but they do have some time.
Speaker 9 (02:51:26):
Now.
Speaker 4 (02:51:27):
My question coach.
Speaker 5 (02:51:29):
Number one, should they call a time out now because
the clock's running? But also do you send the punt block?
Speaker 10 (02:51:35):
There's yeah, you have to send the punt block, but
there's twenty one seconds and Pleasant's gonna wait till it
gets down out of five seconds before. So they're gonna
lose another fifteen seconds on the clock, and you.
Speaker 5 (02:51:48):
Gotta figure on defense. Pleasant is just going to play
their safety's back, play their defensive backs deep.
Speaker 4 (02:51:56):
Here comes the punt.
Speaker 5 (02:51:58):
Good kick comes down fielded at the forty up to
the thirty five, and that's where they're tackled Jaden Griffith
and so parting with good field position.
Speaker 10 (02:52:13):
That's a menzer for Harding on the tackle. That kid's
all over the place. I'll tell you if you want
to start a defense, you started with that kid. So
the situation for Harding.
Speaker 5 (02:52:29):
You're down by eleven two forty five, and like you said, coach,
you're not going to get all eleven and one one
play or one series.
Speaker 4 (02:52:38):
Well, this is it right here.
Speaker 5 (02:52:40):
They've got to go down and score, and it's got
to be fast and they've got to be well, yeah,
they've got to be fast or they're gonna get the
ball on an on side kick. So you got to
be thinking about and even if they get its field
goal here, then they're gonna need a touchdown anyway, So
they need two scores. Painting throws it out complete out
(02:53:00):
of bounds. Good job there by Raymond Scott Harrible up
ahead to about the twenty nine yard line and Ray
J Scott Harble. We've talked with that kid. Such a
great lead leader. He's somebody that's just he just says,
I'll do whatever I need to for this tea.
Speaker 10 (02:53:17):
He started out be getting of the year in the backfield,
and I really didn't think they got him the ball
enough back there. But he's more of a receiver type
and I think he does a great job out in
the outside.
Speaker 5 (02:53:28):
Pennington complete, boy. That was a tough catch too by Holloway.
That will stop the clock on the first down. Now
Hardy needs to get up on the on the ball
right now.
Speaker 4 (02:53:42):
Two thirty five.
Speaker 5 (02:53:43):
Now the clock is running first and ten at the
Pleasant twenty one. Pennington rolling to his left looking looking
now he steps up, he throws it out there. Oh,
almost intercepted. There was no receiver near there. Yeah, he
was very close to going across the line of scrimmage
(02:54:04):
too on the pass. But uh, I don't know, I
don't know where he was throwing it down there in
the corner. So two twenty left in this game, Pleasant's
holding on to a fourteen to three lead. Second down
and ten ball is at the Pleasant twenty one yard
line and the prexy's with the ball. One back in
(02:54:29):
the backfield rolling to his left is Pennington. He's looking
looking now. He just runs out of bounds and maybe
gets a yard on that brings up third down. It
looks like they're trying to set up a specific play.
That's twice in a row that they've run.
Speaker 10 (02:54:46):
That pretty hard block over there on the Pleasant sideline.
My number sixty two, excuse me sixty one. It's uh,
Caleb Young. He's played a good game and noseguard for
(02:55:09):
Pleasant tonight.
Speaker 5 (02:55:12):
Third down and nine. Pennington looking to his right now
across the middle and no one there. He had two
receivers running in the same area and that it seemed
kind of strange to me because they were both running
a slant post pattern and opposing or.
Speaker 4 (02:55:29):
Towards each other.
Speaker 10 (02:55:30):
Yeah, Caleb Young. Also on the outside here. I was
able to get away from the guy blocking him to
tackle and had some late pressure on Pennington right at
the end of his throat.
Speaker 5 (02:55:43):
Well, this has to be at least to the first
down marker. Fourth down and nine two O nine left
man in motion. That's Ray j Scott Harbolt. They look
across the middle, that's tipped up and incomplete threw right
into double coverage to Parker Davis and a turnover on
(02:56:03):
downs here be pleasant? That should uh or maybe do
it for pleasant?
Speaker 10 (02:56:11):
Getting the ball back with two oh four to go,
first and ten on their own twenty yard line, and
I would imagine there'll be three running plays.
Speaker 4 (02:56:22):
Obviously they would like to pick up a.
Speaker 10 (02:56:24):
First down, but their goal when they had the ball
with five minutes to go, they were able to get
it down under three. So if they can get three
running plays and mathematically.
Speaker 5 (02:56:34):
Well Harding has three timeouts, yeah, they're gonna they're gonna
have to force Harding to call timeouts. So first and
ten for of the Spartans and the handoffs straight ahead
to Niederhauser and he picks up about three and time
(02:56:54):
out taken by Harding. Go ahead and go through some
of the scores right now. In the fourth quarter, mo
Walks up twenty seven to fourteen over Carry Gallon up
over River Valley thirty five to twenty. In the fourth
quarter Carl Crawford twenty eight Upper Sandusky fourteen win for
twenty nine Buckeye Central thirteen, Mount Gallion thirty six to
(02:57:15):
nothing over Loudonville North warn a final forty nine to
six over Cardington. Another final, Elgin wins thirty to thirteen
over Perry Centerberg beats East Knox forty to six. Graham
defeats North Union thirty eight to nothing in the fourth quarter,
(02:57:35):
Columbus Academy twenty, Buckeye Valley fourteen. Also in the fourth quarter,
Rainsfield Goshen thirty three, Ridgdale six, and in Shelby. Shelby
is up over Ontario thirty five to twenty eight in
the fourth period.
Speaker 4 (02:57:53):
So that one going down to the wire.
Speaker 5 (02:57:56):
We're fourteen two three Pleasant with the ball in the lead,
one fifty nine left in this game.
Speaker 10 (02:58:06):
Well, right now, Pleasant, All they have to do is
just to snap it and hold on to it like Lowry,
just holding on to the football. Peterhuser does a good
job with two hands on the football and Niterhauser does
take it. He does get a couple of yards and
able to get close. Yeah, he may have gotten the
(02:58:27):
first down. It depends on where he marks it. There
is definitely close. He went a lot further than I
thought he did.
Speaker 5 (02:58:36):
They are saying it's a Matthews hondaker a first down
and so Harding's still going to call time out, but that.
Speaker 10 (02:58:47):
I think might be what does it right here? Really
do too Harding? All they're going to do is hand
the ball off Toneterhuser. He has two hands on the
football and just force Harding to use up their time out.
Coach Williamson is just trying to extend the game to
give his team an opportunity here and who knows, they
might fumble it, they pick it up, run for a
(02:59:07):
touchdown and get an on side kick. I know that's unlikely,
but one fifty four to go. You got to coach
clear to the end, and you got to teach your
players to play clear to the end.
Speaker 5 (02:59:18):
Yeah, and it's in this game. It's tough to see
any any team end up being the loser.
Speaker 6 (02:59:30):
And it was.
Speaker 5 (02:59:30):
It was an emotional game all night, but pleasant withheld
through the storm. And I think coach Westler will be
the first one to say this was not a perfect game.
He's still he said in the pregame interview that the
Highland game was where they felt like they had played
their best game and ever since then they just have
(02:59:52):
not had that complete game. This hasn't been that complete
game either, but there are things they can take from
it that are positives. Well, Harding really helped them a lot,
especially with their second score, giving them the ball back
and what about three times in a row, and then
when they had the ball and they had penalty, Harding
kept getting penalties on him, on themselves, on the defense,
and they kept allowing pleasant to get first downs at
(03:00:14):
least get out of the shadow of their own goal post.
Speaker 4 (03:00:18):
And you can't really do that.
Speaker 10 (03:00:19):
You have to somehow, you know, put the team first,
and you know, basically keep your mouth shut and get
back to the huddle and live to see another play.
Speaker 4 (03:00:30):
And Harding really didn't do that tonight. Yeah, and it's unfortunate.
Speaker 5 (03:00:36):
For Harding, but I've seen a lot of good with
this Harding team. One of the things I didn't mention earlier,
you know, they had some mistakes all that. I was
watching one of the offensive linemen on the sideline after
I think it was one of the last interceptions, and
the emotion he was showing. He wasn't going off on anybody,
(03:00:59):
he was just so upset. He's a senior. He's crying,
he's yelling. That kind of passion I can appreciate, you know,
that's a kid that gets it. He's like, I just
want to win, and he's leaving everything out there on
the field. And I saw a lot of that on
the Harding sideline tonight. Some things happen, and there's definitely
(03:01:20):
you can point to the very specific mistakes that were made,
but there's plenty of Harding players there that are really
passionate about playing for this team. And the running play
on second down is close to the first down, it
will be third down, but now Harding cannot stop the clock,
(03:01:44):
and so this is where a Pleasant will be able
to pretty much just run a couple of plays and
be done.
Speaker 4 (03:01:51):
Yeah, one twenty seven to go, uh.
Speaker 10 (03:01:56):
Trying that, you know, I know they're going to try
to pick up a first down and then after that
probably victory formation two or three times in a row,
and that should pretty much do it.
Speaker 4 (03:02:07):
Well.
Speaker 10 (03:02:07):
I think for Pleasant to come over here in hostility
it's not easy, it's not easy, and come out with
a fourteen to three victory, they should really feel good
about this game tonight. Peter Hauser with the carry, he
does pick up the first down and plenty more across
the fifty to the forty nine, and now Pleasant under
a minute, they just have to kneel on the ball
(03:02:30):
and it's all done. Yeah, that would be the thing
to protect their own players and just kneel down, let
the clock run and uh, don't even run a play.
Speaker 5 (03:02:40):
And it looks like they are going into victory formation.
So as you know, chippy as the game was and
things like that, you want to end it on a
good note. And it looks like that's what they're going
to attempt to do, is to kneel down there by Low.
(03:03:01):
So we're approaching the end of this game as some
of the players are shaking hands, hugging each other for
each team.
Speaker 4 (03:03:08):
That's what you like to see.
Speaker 5 (03:03:11):
And Harding not able to get the victory here on
senior night, Pleasant comes in and wins fourteen to three
over Harding. And we'll go through some of the stats
tonight and the recap the plane. But Coach, just your
initial reactions to this game, Well, I think Pleasant wanted
(03:03:34):
it more.
Speaker 10 (03:03:34):
They were able to keep their composure when they needed to,
They were able to capitalize on Harding's mistakes, and they
came over here and I know Coach was, you know,
talking to them about they need to be more consistent.
Worry about the Pleasant Spartans and not be so much
worried about parting and play their game. And once they
(03:03:56):
got the lead fourteen to three, you could see they
got a little bit conservative.
Speaker 4 (03:04:00):
I think Dylan.
Speaker 10 (03:04:01):
Bird's caught that second touchdown pass, what a great catch.
And Colmber played a great game with you know, as
a receiver, and they got back on track.
Speaker 4 (03:04:10):
They got to win.
Speaker 10 (03:04:11):
And nothing, nothing helps, you know, when you're struggling a
little bit offensively, then to be able to score fourteen
points and their defense stepped up pretty much the whole game.
And Hardy just made too many mistakes, too many mental
mistakes and too many physical mistakes. So Pleasant needed Pleasant
wanted it more, and they got it tonight.
Speaker 5 (03:04:33):
And we are standing by Scott will have comments with
our Pillar Credit Union player of the game and coach CJ. Westler,
and you know, luckily, as again, as chippy as the
game could be, as emotional as the game was, everybody
shaking hands, doing well, not seeing too much. No, that's fine,
(03:04:58):
you know, it's you know maybe and you know, for
the most part it was it was really not that way.
It was just a couple of guys and there were
some good late not good late hits, but good hits,
and uh, you know, just a couple guys lost their composure,
so you can't fault, you know. I just saw nothing
but some good classy defense by Harding trying to play hard,
(03:05:22):
playing a hit hard, doing the best they can they help.
I saw guys from Harding picking pleasant guys up, pleasant
guys picking Harding guys up, and uh yeah, but it
was just it's just a couple of guys that kind of,
you know, kind of ruin it for everybody there. I'm
watching over on the other side of the field. Connor
Pennington very emotional going through that line. You could tell
(03:05:44):
he was lively with some of what he was saying.
Parker Davis goes over to him, his quarterback, and you know,
his receiver to his quarterback just grabs him, hugs him,
and they have.
Speaker 4 (03:05:55):
A long hug.
Speaker 5 (03:05:56):
Two seniors out here on the field. It's about being teammates,
it's about trying to be uh, you know, good teammates.
And Parker Davis seems like one of those kids that
tries to keep these guys centered, and unfortunately it does
get pretty emotional out there. I mean, we've I know
you and I have coached and played together with with
(03:06:19):
players and coaches that were all very could be very
high strung. Uh, but you got to learn to keep
it under control. And if there was anything that just it,
it just upset me.
Speaker 7 (03:06:32):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (03:06:32):
It was just sad to see was that some of
the some of the time, the the Harding players just
couldn't keep under control. And we don't know who it
was necessarily, but it was enough to be able to
affect Harding in a very very negative way tonight. Yeah,
there's no question about it. It's uh, it's tough to watch.
Speaker 10 (03:06:52):
And uh, right now, pleasants out there in the middle
of the field or down on the twenty five yard line,
Coach Westler's talking to them, and they deserved it.
Speaker 4 (03:07:01):
Tonight.
Speaker 10 (03:07:01):
They came over here and even with the you know,
there's some of the pregame talk that you know, Harding
this was going to be a revenge game for him
from last year and so on and so forth. But
they came over and they had a nice drive in
the very beginning, and it it kind of fizzled out
and then Harding went down kicked the field goal. I thought, Okay,
we've got a ball game here, and we did have one,
(03:07:23):
but Harding just couldn't. When they got down fourteen to three.
It just seems to me like they they got a
little bit greedy and they tried to throw the long
ball and they were getting it picked off. And I
just think that those short passes that they were getting
towards the end of the game and.
Speaker 4 (03:07:41):
The last couple of drives that was the ticket.
Speaker 10 (03:07:44):
And getting the ball to Parker Davis definitely would would
was a was a positive thing for him. But they
just but it's but you have to play consistent football, offense, defense,
special teams. And their kicker twenty two we got agnowed
like him. What a fine night he had. That's Jackson
Shipley and two punts not inside just the ten, but
(03:08:07):
he kicked him inside the one. And what a weapon
he is and he should be acknowledged. What a fine
game he played tonight and also kicked a field goal.
Speaker 5 (03:08:16):
Yeah, and and coach just real quick, you know, go
or pleasant going into this next game against Shelby, really
tough game. Anything that you would just say, like the
number one thing they need to focus on, well, just
what Coach Westler has talked about, you know, being consistent,
go out and playing and leave it on the field.
(03:08:37):
And they're going against the they're going against the big
dogs in the league, so they've got a great challenge.
Speaker 4 (03:08:43):
But sometimes upsets can happen.
Speaker 5 (03:08:45):
All right, let's throw it down to the field to Scott,
who's with coach Westler and Alec Calimber.
Speaker 2 (03:08:51):
Yeah, I'm with Coach Westler here. Kind of seemed like
a tough battle of patrictionnaire defensively, but you've really got
to be happy with the defensive effort for your team tonight.
Speaker 4 (03:09:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 18 (03:09:00):
When you when you play like that and you hold
a team out of the end zone, I mean, that's
obviously impressive.
Speaker 7 (03:09:05):
And we definitely won the battle up front. We thought
that was the X factor.
Speaker 18 (03:09:07):
And I don't know the final stats, but I know
Sam Mincer was all over the quarterback all night.
Speaker 7 (03:09:12):
So the defense played great.
Speaker 18 (03:09:14):
And I just told the kids, you know, when you
line up against the team and they know what you're
gonna do and you physically pound them for four quarters,
that's a great feeling. And I don't think the scoreboard
really reflects the dominant performance that we had as far
as our physicality tonight.
Speaker 2 (03:09:29):
And so that's kind of leads into my next question.
You really prided yourself in a run game and the
ability to kind of set the standard work your game,
work your place, work your pace, everything, but you really
kind of capitalize on some great passes tonight. What'd you see?
Speaker 18 (03:09:44):
Yeah, I mean, we knew that we're gonna play man
coveras we knew that we had to take shots, and
we made a couple of plays and that's what you
have to do. And in the second half, credit to them,
they put us in some terrible field position with two
great punts and they had great kit coverage and they
pin us down on the one yard line. We got
down in the red zone one time. We probably should
have punched it in but we weren't able to. But really,
(03:10:04):
other than that, we had a terrible field position, you know,
so we were just relying on our defense. We know
they were playing great, so we were just protecting the
ball and punting it and playing great defense.
Speaker 2 (03:10:14):
So next week, Shelby, the last I heard, Shelby was
up by seven, I believe over Ontario. What's the thought
process going forward into week ten year, playoff positioning and
everything else.
Speaker 18 (03:10:25):
Obviously they're a great a great team, whether regardless of
the final Tonight They're a really good team. Last year
we played them really tough. We just have to rise
to the occasion. When we play well. We are a
really good team, and we just have to rise to
the occasion. You know, take it, take it one day
at a time, get better each day, and if we
go out we played a great game for four quarters, we'll.
Speaker 7 (03:10:45):
Have a shot at the end and that'll be our focus.
Speaker 2 (03:10:47):
Awesome, thank you coach to us or congratulations. All right, guys,
I'm here also with the Pillar Credit Union Player of
the Game Alet Colmber. I know you might have to
ask your dad who this is, so, but there's a
guy that was you, a great name, Chris Gamble, who
could play both sides of the ball at the NFL
Superstar everything else that was you tonight. How's the fuel
(03:11:08):
playing both sides of the ball and just you had
a touchdown, catch an interception. What's something like that? Feel like?
It feels great.
Speaker 39 (03:11:13):
I'm just a part of all the action of the game,
like playing defense, like playing offense. So I'm happy they
put me there, put me in that position.
Speaker 2 (03:11:19):
And so obviously a rivalry game, very spirited game, a
lot of action going on, lots of hard hitting in
a rivalry game like this. I mean, what goes through
your head as you're playing in that game, especially both
sides of the ball. How do you keep yourself fresh?
Speaker 39 (03:11:37):
To be honest, nothing hurts. I'm gonna be honest, nothing
hurts at all. So if I get you hard, I'm
just gonna give back up. No matter what happens. It
hurts a little bit.
Speaker 2 (03:11:43):
I'm just gonna get back up. So well, let's see
how you are after forty Okay, congratulations.
Speaker 4 (03:11:49):
Scott, Scott, Yeah, real quick, grab him.
Speaker 2 (03:11:52):
Hey, Alec, Alec, come here real quick.
Speaker 5 (03:11:54):
I need to know, Alec, did you learn everything that
you know about football from your dad?
Speaker 2 (03:12:01):
He's gonna like this answer. I'm gonna say, yes.
Speaker 4 (03:12:03):
There you go. I see.
Speaker 5 (03:12:04):
I set you up for that perfect answer.
Speaker 36 (03:12:06):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (03:12:07):
Thanks, all right, thanks, yip, all right.
Speaker 5 (03:12:10):
Well, Alex Klimber our Pillar Credit Union player of the game,
and he played a great game, and we, like we
had said earlier, he's had moments in games, but this
is one of those really good, complete games where he
affected both sides. And I know earlier in the season
he played some defense, but he wasn't playing as much
(03:12:30):
and they moved him to where okay, we're going to
put you back on defense at defensive back, and he's
become a very valuable defensive back.
Speaker 10 (03:12:37):
Yeah, he sat back there and just he's a smart player.
A pretty good little basketball player too, watching him play
quite a bit, and he's got the savvy, he's got
the look, and he has a lot of confidence in himself,
as you could hear you know him speak, the fact
that he loves football. He doesn't care where they put him,
but he's happy to be out there and he's cherishing
(03:13:00):
these moments. And he came up big from the very
first play on that little screen pass to catching some balls.
I know he had the one catch that was car
was the run that he had that was called back
with a hold, but he picked up a.
Speaker 4 (03:13:14):
Big first down.
Speaker 10 (03:13:14):
It was like a third and fifteen or something and
he picked up a first down, and then of course
it was a whole but you know, he's able to
make things happen for the Spartans and really had a
nice game tonight.
Speaker 5 (03:13:26):
So total yards for harding two hundred and six, total
yards for pleasant to thirty three, passing yards one seventy
two for harding, ninety three for pleasant and pleasant with
one hundred and forty rushing yards, Harding with thirty four
very even games statistically, but again, statistics don't necessarily tell
(03:13:48):
you the game. Pleasant just able to take care of
business tonight. So thanks for joining us tonight here at Harding.
Next week Harding we'll be traveling to Gallleon. We will
be at Pleasant as the Spartans host Shelby Now stick
around for the scoreboard show. Raceland Grab and Alec Bichelman
will cover all the area games plus talk about the
latest in college and pro football. We'll join the conversation
(03:14:10):
when we get there again. The final score here tonight,
Pleasant victorious Overhearting fourteen to three. So for coach Couzio
and Scott Cameron here with me and Racelin Grab back
at the studio, I'm Eric Moseley. We say so long
and hope you have a wonderful weekend. Good night everyone.
Speaker 32 (03:14:31):
Those showers and thunderstorm chances are going to remain with
us here through much of
