Speaker 1 (00:00):
Preble Shawnee comes into this game with a nine to
one record and runner up in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference,
while Pleasant is at five and five, finishing tied for
fourth in the MOAC. So let me bring in coach
Couzio coach. Based off the records, you could initially think
that the Eros would be a big favorite in this game.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
But looks can be deceiving, right, Yeah, there's no question
about it. Looks can be deceiving. Preble Shawnee nine to one.
They had some blowouts this year, and you know, it
depends on what type of competition that the teams have
played in. I know that, well, I can't really speak
for them, but I can also but I can speak
for Pleasant and what they've had to go through a
gauntlet in the MAC with Shelby Ontario, overtime win at
(00:42):
Clear Fork, and I'll tell you what, the harding Division
two school, they've they've earned their right to be here,
and I know the CJ has got the kids ready
to go. Seemed like they were relaxed, really upbeat practices
this week. Probably said the best practices all year. And
they're coming down here with some confidence and I think
they're gonna treat this as a business trip. We'll see,
(01:04):
we'll see how it goes well.
Speaker 1 (01:06):

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Join me right now. It's pleasant, head coach CJ. Wesler, coach.
We made it down here, a decent drive. How are
the kids feeling today? I think they're excited, you know.
I told them to take a nap on the bus.
It was a couple of them woke up, so that
was a quick bus ride, so that's always a good thing.
Speaker 10 (04:14):
We woke up when we were about ten fifteen.
Speaker 11 (04:16):
Minutes away to start getting awake and folksing up. So
I think I think we're feeling good, excited. Obviously, at
this point of the year, it's an excitement. So the
start of a new season, so there's always going to
be some excitement.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Obviously, the beginning of the year had all kinds of
goals and some of them you got and some of
you of you some of them you didn't.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
But now this was a big goal.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
How's it feel to know, Okay, we did get this
one done and now it's like, let's get get to work.
Speaker 10 (04:43):
Yeah, if it feels good to be in this position.
Speaker 11 (04:45):
And like I've stressed to the kids this week and
really all year, you know, we might not have reached
all of our goals, but but the season that we
had and overcoming some adversity and struggles and having that
tough schedule, that's what prepares teams for the playoff.
Speaker 10 (05:00):
So we feel like we're prepared.
Speaker 11 (05:02):
We're battle tested where you know we're gonna be able
to respond to whatever happens, and that's what you went
out of a team. So we're excited for tonight and
we hope that we have a good result.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
Let's talk about that. That schedule. We know the MOAC
schedule was tough. Your pre or your non conference schedule
wasn't the easiest either. How do you feel that they
responded to a lot of those challenges because it seemed
like a lot of games that even that you lost,
the team was really in it almost to the end.
Speaker 11 (05:29):
Yeah, And you know, it's always tough when you have
when you have those high expectations and goals and and
things don't go your way. How are you gonna you know,
pick yourself up off the mat, so to speak.
Speaker 10 (05:40):
But our kids did that and they responded.
Speaker 11 (05:43):
You know, I think back to the Clear Fort game
and went into overtime, we were able to pull it out.
That kind of shows our grit and and how we
can battle all the way to the end, you know,
coming back after the Hope Allowding game, which was a
huge letdown for our guys to be able to win
the next week. So we've responded, and then towards the
end of the year, you know, that was really where
we played the tough teams, and I think we showed
(06:06):
that we can play with those type of teams. We
just have to do it consistently for four quarters, you know,
And last week I think is the best that we've
done at that obviously not the result that we wanted,
but a really tough, really tough opponent, so you got
to credit them as well. But I feel like we're
kind of playing our best ball at the end of
the year, and we had a great week of practice,
so we're hoping that all that preparation and that tough
(06:29):
schedule pays off for us.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
So what do you guys do as a coaching staff
when you know, as a team, smallest team in the conference,
you guys play a very tough schedule, and you all
know and are realistic about the fact that getting into
the playoffs against teams that are similar size, they probably
haven't met the teams that you've met. How do you
weigh that out with the players to not let them
be over confident, but also make sure they know, hey,
(06:53):
we did a really good job against some really tough teams.
Speaker 11 (06:56):
Yeah, And honestly, the approach that we took more than
anything was just focus, focusing on ourselves in our schedule.
Obviously we watched the film, we break down the opponent,
but we didn't spend a ton of time talking about about.
Speaker 10 (07:08):
Their schedule and who they play.
Speaker 11 (07:11):
We you know, we focus on ourselves and talk to
them about the competition that we've played and and how
that's setting us up to be in a good position
right now. And and obviously you know they're in a
better position than us.
Speaker 10 (07:23):
They have a home playoff game.
Speaker 11 (07:24):
We would we would love to have them travel two hours,
you know, but I think the kids are ready and
we're excited, and I mean, we'll find out tonight if
all that's going to pay off.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
So let's talk about Preble Shawnee nine and one on
the season, they finished second place in the Western Ohio
Athletic Conference. What do you see out of the arrows.
What are some of the things that stand out?
Speaker 11 (07:44):
Offensively, they're a really good team. They have some playmakers.
You know, they have an explosive offense, but it's not
really from driving the ball down the field. It's it's
getting the ball out in space of their playmakers. Uh,
you know, number four, he's kind of the engine of
their team. He's a really good player. He's definitely the
standout guy that you notice right away on film that
you got to be able to stop. But it makes
(08:06):
it tough because they have two other really good receivers.
They have a huge tight end I think he's six
' five, they have a solid tailback, so that's a
challenge for sure. And then defensively, they're an attacking defense.
You know, their middle linebacker, I believe he's their all
time leading tackler. And they have a bunch of kids
that play both ways, so you know they're tough kids.
Speaker 10 (08:26):
So those are the things that kind of stand out
right away.
Speaker 11 (08:30):
But again, I feel like, if we do our job
and we come ready to play, we're gonna have a
great chance.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
So obviously their defense very aggressive, Your defense very aggressive.
Is there a feeling in a preparation that, hey guys,
this is going to be a pretty hard hitting game tonight.
Speaker 11 (08:43):
Oh yeah, I mean when you get to this point
of the season, that's that's the expectation. You know, every
team has the expectation to win and believes they can win,
and every team at this point is tough and hard knows,
so that that that's definitely the expectation.
Speaker 1 (08:57):
Well, I know, everybody's excited. You're going to bring a
great crowd in tonight. Good luck tonight, Coach Hope, we
can bring home the win.
Speaker 10 (09:03):
Thank you.
Speaker 12 (09:05):

Speaker 1 (11:36):
Welcome back to the Premieer Optometry Countdown to kickoff. We're
live here at Preble Shawnee for the Division five Region
twenty matchup between Preble Shawnee and the Pleasant Spartans. I'm
Eric Moseley alongside coach John Cuzio. Let's go through some
of the other playoff games are going on with teams
in our area. Other Marion County teams in action tonight.
(11:56):
In Division four Region fourteen, River Valley travels to Vermillion,
and in Division six Region twenty three, Elgin is at
Grandview Heights. In the Northern ten Division four Region fourteen,
Upper Sandusky travels to Sandusky Perkins. Division six Region twenty two,
Seneca East is at Western Reserve. Also in that same region,
Kerry goes to Tenora. In Division six Region twenty three,
(12:19):
Colonel Crawford travels over to Monroe Central, and in Division
seven Region twenty six, Edgerton travels to Mohawk. That is
our game on our sister station, Magic ninety five to
nine other MOAC teams in action. All of these other
teams are in action in Division four Region fourteen Ottawa
Glandorf is at Gallion, Alida is at Shelby, and in
(12:40):
a regular season rematch, Clear four travels to Ontario. In
the KMAC Division six Region eighteen, Fredericktown is at Okharbor.
Division six Region twenty three, Caldwell travels to Northmore and
Centerberg goes to Reedsville. Eastern Division seven Region twenty seven,
Bridgeport travels to Danville. And then one other other area
(13:02):
team that is in action tonight in Division three Region eleven,
Buckeye Valley goes up to Steubenville. So coach a lot
of really good playoff matchups. This is the time of
year that obviously we said at the beginning, everybody is
looking forward to the teams, the players, the fans. But
you look at some of these matchups in man, it
would be really hard to try to guess how.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Any of those games are going. Yeah, they're a toss up,
you don't know. Like we said earlier in the broadcast
that depending upon the type of conference these teams are
coming from, the type of competition they're playing, anything can
happen tonight. I mean even at maybe a sixteen could
beat a one. That's you know, it's kind of kind
of unlikely. But you know, some of these real close matchups,
(13:45):
you know, like this one tonight, you never know you
have a team like Preble Shawnee with a nine to
one record playing a five and five. But you know,
it doesn't matter. The records, they do not matter when
they get to hear and I just want to mention
what a beautiful facility we have here at Preble Shawnee.
The fields in great condition for game eleven. And the
(14:05):
thing is, I think this is the first game that
we put our coats on. I did before the game started.
This is one heck of a crisp night. You could
tell it's playoff football here tonight.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
Yeah, we might actually end up putting gloves on because
it is a little bit cool out here, not much
of a breeze.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
I don't wear gloves. I know, I know, we've heard it.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
You know your receivers don't wear gloves either, And when
when we look, it's hard for us sometimes with the
playoff games, unless it's teams that we're pretty familiar with
to really know what to expect out of the other team.
We've spent some time looking at Preble Shawnee. Again, they
play in a conference that didn't have a lot of
great teams, but there was a couple of teams up
(14:45):
towards the top that were pretty good. They only lost
one game to the eventual champion of their conference, so
they've they've played very well. They're a team that can
pass the ball, but they do have a good running game.
They like to run a balance attack. So it's a
team that very much is like Pleasant in that way,
who likes to try to be as balanced as possible
on offense.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yeah. You know, one of the things that stands out
to me and you and I talked about this on
the way down is they've only punted the ball twice
this whole year. Yeah, so they've got if they have
to punt the ball tonight. I'm looking for Pleasant to
put some heat on the punter. And I'm looking for
something maybe something special that Pleasant might be able to
do in the punting game, either return, maybe block a punt.
(15:28):
And I know that Pleasant coaches looked at that, and
you know, the snapper obviously is on an inexperience without
only having to snap the ball twice for punts. Of
course he had to snap it a lot with extra
points because he did score. Quite that's first not as far,
so you know, anything can happen in that respect. And
you know, I looked at their roster. I looked at
(15:50):
their big tight end about six or five. Kid really
stood out to me in pregame warmups. And you know,
since they can pass the ball, they're going to have
to Pleasant's defense is going to have to really put
some heat on it. And talking about that, the guy
that we're going to be watching tonight, and this one
guy that we don't talk about a lot, but he's
(16:11):
a guy that we've been doing games the last three years.
And you may not even remember or understand that who
I'm going to say it's number sixty one for Pleasant,
Caleb Young. He's got sixty one tackles playing down on
the defensive line, sixteen tackles for a loss in six sacks.
This kid is an unsung hero for Pleasant. I think
he blocked the punt in a big game last year.
(16:33):
If you remember, those are the guys that just they're grinders,
they've got the grit and they're down in the trenches
and we really love watching those guys play and you've
got Ringer with one hundred and thirty one tracting Burger
one hundred and thirty Menzer this guy defensive end. Can't
say enough about him, twenty four sacks on the year,
and he's like doubled what anybody else has happened. But
(16:55):
they've got some guys that can play some defense. Colin
Burr's Ballhawk more and Brady Henry going both ways. These
guys are going to be rocking and rolling tonight and
really going to have to to play against this good team.
Speaker 1 (17:07):
Absolutely well, we'll take a break. When we come back,
we'll continue on. You're listening to countdown to kick off
on fourteen ninety WMRI.

Back here wrapping up countdown to kickoff at Prebleshawnee High
School Preble Shawnee Field for Division five Region twenty action
Prebel Shawnee hosting Marion Pleasant and Uh, Coach, you talked
about the atmosphere here. It is a longer drive down here,
but it was a pretty easy drive. And this is
(22:46):
very much a small community. We went through a couple
just small towns once we got here, and this is uh,
it reminds me of you know, this school could sit
in Marion County. It very much is like the Marion
County schools, right.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Uh. You don't really see the cornfield, but you do
see some nice trees. They're all turning. It's fall. You
could tell it's right at the end of football season, right,
you know, right on the just cusp of the playoffs,
the first round, and you know today's Today's really it
just really feels like football. You know, I thought coach
Carroll was going to be wearing his long pants when
(23:20):
I saw him get off the bus, but he walked
out on the field with him and then I saw
him when they start warming up, he went to the shorts.
So you know, I can't teach an old dog new
tricks on that because he he's a warrior and he's
out there and I think he's he's been out there
several years, probably close to forty or more, and I
know pleasant's lucky to have him. But anyway, Yeah, a
(23:41):
great nighte atmosphere for football. The teams are kind of
coming out the locker rooms. We're about five minutes away
and I'm really looking forward to it. Absolutely well. We're
going to take one more break.
Speaker 1 (23:52):

Division five Region twenty playoff football as Pleasant travels and
(26:25):
is meeting Prebel Shawnee right now. The Prebel Shawnee Marching
Band will be performing the national Anthem.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
Marchings.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
That was the Purple Shawnee Marching Arrows with the National
Anthem all right. Eleven weeks ago, both of these teams
were looking at just that week one opponent, looking to
try to get the season start off on the right foot,
and now eleven weeks later, they've gotten to the point
that they wanted to get to in the playoffs in
(28:12):
the first round.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
It's a great night for football.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Fifty one degrees outside, it's perfect football weather. Prebel Shawnee
is in all black, red numbers and letters, black helmets
with the Prebel Shawnee aerrow logo on the sides. Pleasant
is in their white tops, red numbers, in letters, black
pants and the black helmet with the iconic pe on
the side of the helmets. Pleasant will be kicking off
to start the game. Prebel Shawnee will be returning.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Defensively for Pleasant household names you got Ringer, Tracktenberg, Menser, Moore, Colin, Bert, Scouten,
Young Henry, among others. Just before we get ready to
start here, I want to give a couple shout outs.
Talk to mister Flinch bob Leieve down near the concession
stand before the game, and he's got a family, a
(28:59):
whole group of slew of Pleasant Spartans in South Carolina
that are listening to the game tonight. We want to
give them a shout out. He says, they've been listening
all season whenever we do their games. And also a
really good friend of mine, Dennis Watkins back in Marion,
couldn't make the game tonight. He's actually a referee and
he's off tonight. He said ten games in a row
(29:20):
was quite enough, So we would like to give them
a shout out and say keep listening. We're going to
try to bring you a good broadcast.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Kickoff rolls into the end zone, it will be a
touchback zone, and it looked to me, honestly, prebl Shawn
he wasn't real sure what to do on that kickoff.
The two backs back there went right between him. They
kind of just looked at each other for a second.
I'm getting the feeling they're not used to getting a
lot of kickoffs that come all the way back there. Well,
(29:47):
they're going to have to get used to it now,
because I think Pleasant Spartans are ready to play football
tonight defensively, and we'll have to wait and see, but
they do have some weapons. Brody Morton is their quarterback
with Isaiah Isaac blanket chip number four and big tight
end Caden Taylor. Morton takes it himself to the outside
across the twenty up to the twenty five and that's
(30:10):
a Matthew's anakra first down up to the thirty five.
A nice start to the game for the Arrows.
Speaker 2 (30:15):
Yeah, real nice start. Brody Morton really had a nice
job of coming up there in the Conway making the
tackle boy big first down Spartans can't let that happen.
The edge guys out here on the outside have got
to really hem those guys in and not let them
bounce to the outside. Be first and ten at the
arrow thirty six yard line, Morton in the shotgun hands
(30:39):
it off straight ahead and goes through a couple tackles
up ahead for about a gain of six or seven.
That was lane lovely. Yeah, this is their game. They
like to keep it on the ground. They're gonna come
at you. They're gonna play tough defense, and that's why
they won nine games. So let's see what happens if
they can withstand this and the Spartans see whether or
not they wake up on this. But two nice offensive
(31:03):
plays for the prebl Shawnee.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
So it's actually a gain of nine. So second down
and one at the forty six yard line, Morton in
the shotgun, two backs on each side. Now he takes
it himself, cuts the outside across the forty five to
fifty to the forty five and down to the forty
two yard line. That's a Matthews hondager first down. Looks
to me like Shawnee saw with pleasants defense.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Hey, we can run to the outside quite a bit. Well,
they got number thirty Caden Taylor Senior, six' five two
fifteen as a tight end, and he's blocking out here
on the outside linebacker, and I think that's the mismatch.
I think they found He's gonna be also a big
target catching passes, but right now he's doing a great
job of blocking on that outside. First and ten Matthews
(31:52):
Hondager first down for the Arrows. Morton takes it again.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
Himself, straight ahead across the forty five third ain't fifteen
down at the five.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
There was a huge, huge hole there. Well, if you
thought that the heroes we're gonna be missmatched tonight, the
answer is wrong. You know, they were very calm in
the warmups. There was no raw raw really out of
their team, and you never know what you're gonna get.
Maybe that's their mo But right now they're playing with
a lot of confidence offensively.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
So Matthews Hondaker first down, first and goal for the
Arrows at the two yard line, and they are moving
the ball judiciously.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
And very quickly.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
There goes Morton, fakes the hand off straight ahead. Is
he in may have gotten stood up? Now he moves
backwards and so a good job by the Spartan defense
brings up second down.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
Yeah, they lined two running backs right beside the quarterback
and they basically send them ahead. Quarterback kept the ball
and tried to ram it in there for a touchdown.
If you're just tuning in, nine fifty to go. No
score here in the first quarter, but the Arrows are
knocking on the door, so they gained one.
Speaker 1 (33:05):
It's now second and goal at the one yard line,
still in the shotgun lane, lovely next to Morton. Morton
runs it himself. He goes again and he gets in
for the touchdown. So a very good first drive for
the Arrows and they are up over pleasant six to nothing,
(33:26):
nine thirty six left in the first period. It's definitely
a wake up call for the Spartans because the Arrows
came out and just took it to him, not many
plays and just going full speed ahead. The offensive line
came right off and they really made the holes for
the running back and quarterback. And a big, big touchdown there.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
Oh, a bad snapper a fake but there snuffed out
right away, so no good on the extra point. Yeah,
Collenberg came up from the outside and put a hit
on the the ball carrier there and kept him from
going in the end zone. So they dodged. They saved
two points there on that touchdown or on the extra point.
(34:09):
So I'll tell you what right now, let's see if
the Spartans have gotten woke up from the nap the
coach told him take a nap before on the way down,
and hopefully they got woken up. Here we'll see what
happens on this drive or in this series.
Speaker 1 (34:25):
So Previl Shawnee takes the six to nothing lead over Pleasant.
Pleasant will now receive the ball, and it's interesting. We've
seen some teams against Pleasant this year be able to
run the ball, but not up the middle like that
off tackle sometimes some sweeps things like that. I haven't
seen Pleasant get dominated like that up the middle this season.
(34:49):
When you see that first series of the offensive line
coming off the ball the way they did, that's about emotion.
They right now defensively have not matched the emotion and
the ex attitude that the Arrows have right now. So
let's see what happens on this particular drive. Seat Pleasant
is able to answer, kick is off. It just goes
(35:11):
a little bit of a squipkick. They need to get
up on it and they lost it.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Pleasant just standing there not paying attention, not getting to
the ball. Now, Preble Shawnee has it. I'll tell you what.
They better wake up right now because they are excited.
That's the arrows, TREVL Shaw and Meee. They've got the
ball in great field position right here, and they've got
a nice crowd here tonight, and the crowd is still excited,
(35:36):
really pumped up for this game. And the kids down
there are raising their hands, and Pleasant needs to get
a break here right now, and they've got to do
something defensively.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
So Preble Shawnee with the ball at the Pleasant twenty
seven yard line, first and ten Morton in the shotgun.
He's got Lovely next to him to his left.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Hand.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
Off to Lovely, he goes up the middle and he
is snatched up quickly. May have been a loss, but
it definitely no game. Brings up second down. Yeah, that
was number seventy one. That was Brady Henry.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
We had him in at Ralphie's Wednesday night and really
nice kid. Seemed like he was ready for the football game.
He answered the call on that play, made a nice
play in the backfield. I guess it was basically on
the line of scrammings. Nice play.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Brendan Ringer also in on that tackle. Second and ten,
Morton gets a snap, he's going pass, he throws it
out into the flats and no good on that one.
Brings up third down. Not a real strong pass there
into the flat.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Okay, So right now the quarterback, you know, didn't he's
kind of holding his arm there. I don't know what
happened if he got hit or whatever, but ball was
kind of thrown to the outside. Wouldn't really gain much
even if he would have caught it. But big third
down play here for the Spartans. So third and ten
for the Spartans. Two wide receivers on the near side,
(37:02):
slot to the left, one back in the backfield, Morton
in the shotgun. Morton gets it, takes it himself up
the middle and he is tackled.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
Maybe a gain of three. It brings up fourth down.
But we know four down territory here.
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Yeah, that was Caleb Young and a host of others
on the inside there. And now it's fourth down. I
believe they're going to try. Oh they're going to try
the field goal. Wow.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
And see that's we don't know these teams. So we
don't know what kind of field goal kicker they have,
but this is about aty one forty one yard field
goal straight ahead.
Speaker 2 (37:40):
Can't really tell if the wind. I doubt if the.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Wind will be a factor here, just bld he's pretty cool.
Colton Schrader kicks it.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
Up and far left.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
That is no good, but he had the legs so
pleasant able to avoid that one. But Spartans need to
get it together right now.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Yeah, they've got to get something to regroup defensively. They
did meet the challenge and got the ball back, so
they dodged a bullet there, so to speak. Here in
the second series, I don't know what happened on that kickoff.
The ball was kind of pooched in over the front
line and the guys in the second third line just
kind of stood there. I think they were waiting to
see it was kind of a weird hop. But you
(38:19):
can't wait because the arrows were right down on it.
But right now, pleasant's got the ball in. Let's see
if they can get something going here.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
First and ten for the Spartans, Lowry in shotgun. He
rolls to his right, throws it out there, complete up
for about an eight yard gain and that.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
Was Cole Bailey with the reception. Yeah, I really like
the way Lowry rolled out to his right. Maybe that'll
settle him down a little bit. Picked up a nice
little gain about six yards, and they just got to
get the chains moving, get some confidence.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
Three receivers on the near side, Lowry alone in the
back field, a slot or one receiver on the other side,
with a slot all spread here, Lowry takes it himself,
runs straight ahead and gain about a yard maybe two,
and bring.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
Up third and short. Yeah. You know, the Arrows are
a more of a running team. They can pass it,
but they're more of a running team. And that means
that their offensive line is used to firing off the
ball and going forward. A lot of the same guys
may be playing defense, and they still have that mentality
of going forward. And that time they went forward enough
(39:34):
to stuff Lowry for just a really short game.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
Third down and three at the Pleasant, or third down
and one at the Pleasant twenty nine seven to thirty
five in County in the first period, Lowry, with a
back next to him, he fakes the handoff, rolls to
the outside. He picks up the first down in about
three more yards. Good run there by Lowry, and that's
Matthew Hondaker first down for the Spartan.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Yea, that's what Lowry has to do. He's got one
hundred and eight carries, three hundred and thirty two yards,
four touchdowns on the ground, and he's got he's one
hundred and twenty one for two hundred and fourteen passing
fourteen hundred and fifty seven yards passing Eric. He's the
guy that's got to do it tonight. He's got to
do it with his arm and he's got to do
it with his legs. And the guys on the front
(40:21):
line have got to help him a little bit.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
Four receivers on the near side, one alone up top.
Now man in motion from left to right, Lowry back
to pass. He steps up now, he takes off and
gets past the defender and out just in front of
the forty yard line. Nice game by Owen Lowry for
about eight yards.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
So they pleasant scouts must have saw something because they
took Aneederhauser and put him in motion and then ran
a streak right down the scene. And I think Lowry
was looking right at him. He was watching the wide
receiver and he's watching but there was no there. They did.
The Arrows did a nice job of coverage there and
Lowry had to take it and pick up. He did
(41:06):
pick up about five yards, so nice play by him.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
Second down and five at the Pleasant thirty six yard line,
first quarter and hand off straight ahead and about a
gain of four And I believe that Wasneterhuser with the carry.
Speaker 2 (41:23):
I can't tell that that was. He kind of made
his own hole there coming through there at number seven.
He was getting up a little bit slow, but it
looks like he's okay and Pleasant faced with another real
manageable third and two and they can pick up this
first down. Keep the ball. I think that's what they're
gonna have to do tonight. They're gonna have to keep
the ball away from the Arrows.
Speaker 1 (41:44):
And the only loss that the Arrows had, the team
that they played held the ball for three quarters of
the game. So that was the way that just frustrated
the Arrows. Third down and one.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
Hand off to colinber on a sweep and he gets stuffed. Yeah. Pleasant.
Instead of trying to go right up the middle or
off tackle, they try to do a little bit of
a jet sweep inside handoff Colinberg was he tried to
turn the corner. A big defensive end that looked like
number thirty Taylor, who was also playing tight end, turned
(42:23):
everything back in and really forced pleasant into a tough
situation here. Now they've got to punt the football. Fourth
and two. They've got a punt it. Harrison Moore back
to punt for the.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
Spartans, and I believe it's Blanket Ship back for the Arrows.
Punt his off, good punt, drives him back, takes it
at the twenty up at twenty five and just hit
hard at the twenty nine yard line and be first
and ten for the Arrows.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
That was a good hit by Tracktenburg on that to
stop him short. They've got to pick up the intensity right.
Speaker 1 (42:58):
Now, so coach, they've they should be comfortable now they
know what the Arrows are kind of trying to do.
What would you say to the team now they've gotten
hit in the mouth a little bit.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
Well, they they got hit in the mouth. They got
to hit back right now. They have to match the
intensity and they didn't do that the first about the
first four or five minutes of the game. They did
on the stop after the fumble on the kickoff, but Uh,
they have got to match the intensity because the arrows
aren't going to wait for him.
Speaker 1 (43:27):
Morton hands off to Lovely. He cuts it to the outside.
He was stopped and then broke it outside. Good good
defense up the middle of for pleasant but they could
not get the cut out to the outside and get
it covered. A gain of about seven yards for that
first down carry.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
Well, this Taylor, this tight end, he's over here on
this side blocking. He's a mismatch for anybody on the field.
Six five, two fifteen. He looks a little bit heavier
than two fifteen. He's a solid two fifteen and uh,
he is really doing a great job on blocking the
outside linebacker. Second down in four, Morton takes it straight ahead.
He's tackled after a gain of about two. The thing
(44:05):
is with Morton, he is six ' four and sixty
three sixty four, So even if you wrap.
Speaker 1 (44:10):
Him up, they had him ramped up for a gain
of only one. But he goes forward, he's going to
pick up a couple more yards.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
Yeah, and they're going on a quick count. They're not
messing around. They're not going to change the play at
the line of scrimmage. They're getting up there on a
quick count and Pleasant right now. Third and one. Defensively,
they've got to come up with a play here to
stop the momentum of the Arrows.
Speaker 1 (44:32):
Four thirty six left in the first period. Third down
in one, Morton runs it to the left and he
does pick up the first down in a little bit
more tackle just short of the forty five yard line.
It's the first down a Matthew Sontaker first down for
Preble Shawnee.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
I'll tell you what, this kid's not going down on
the first hit. Pleasant Spartans are hitting him, but he's
dragging him for three or four more yards and he's solid.
Like you say, he's got some height on him, he's
got some leverage, and you know he's definitely a running
quarterback and he's gonna take it. He reminds me of
like a tall tailback.
Speaker 1 (45:11):
First and ten back to passes Morton into the flats,
complete up ahead to the fifty out of bounds at
the forty five. That was complete to Caleb Blanketship, and
that's enough for another Matthews Hondakra first down at the
Pleasant forty five yard line.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
Yeah, these guys are well coached. They just come up
there quick County, snaps the ball back, his kid goes
down the field as far as he needs to, picks
up a first down, and they keep the chains moving.
Three forty to go. They're on the move. Spartans have
got to come up with a big play defensively here.
Speaker 1 (45:43):
Preble Shawnee definitely has a big offensive line. Their skill
positions have good height and so Pleasant has a couple
mismatches out there that they have to compete against. Quarterback
takes it himself. Morton, he's faked the handoff on a suite,
takes it to the left side and gets about two
or three second down.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
Yeah, he's just faking the handoff, and the guy that's
faking is actually going to be a lead blocker, and
there was just we just call that a follow follower keeper.
He just takes it and goes around, picks up a
couple of yards. They're just trying to keep Pleasant honest.
I look for him when they throw that quick pass
to try to get the corner up and then have
(46:26):
him go long here sometime.
Speaker 1 (46:28):
Soon, second down and eight, the Arrows hand off to Lovely.
He gets up ahead and a nice gain of about
three there bring up a third and short Yeah, everything
that the Arrows are doing, they're moving forward. When the
running back is tackled, he's still leaning forward. There's hasn't
been anything where they're getting knocked back too much.
Speaker 2 (46:52):
Everything is moving forward. The offensive line are really doing
a nice job here against the Spartans. Third down and
five for the Arrows.
Speaker 1 (47:02):
Morton with Lovely in the backfield, fakes the handoff. Now
he's kind of caught and gets through a couple tackles
and able to gain still about two more yards. Pleasant
just having a hard time getting a handle on him.
Speaker 2 (47:17):
Yeah, they pulled the garden tackle and went left, but
he went right, came out here Tracktenburg wasn't fulled. He
had him dead to rights out here on the outside
for about a two yard loss, And like you said,
he just kind of leaped out of the tackle and
leaped forward and picked up a couple of yards. But
they're still faced with a fourth down. Looks like they
haven't punt the football. Big stop for the Spartans. The
(47:39):
Arrows will be punting, but the Spartans will be back deep.
Burns back deep for the Spartans inside the fifteen. Bad snap,
but they do get it off and that goes at
the ten and lands at the nine, so not the
worst thing and actually burns the right thing there, just
(48:01):
to stay away from it. They were hoping for the
role the Arrows were.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
But now the Spartans takeover first and ten score is
still six to nothing. Shawnee over Pleasant, well.
Speaker 2 (48:12):
Really is uh? I was not say bad as Pleasants played,
because the Arrows have been playing pretty well. The Spartan
can still get something going here. It's only in the
first quarter. They're only down six. They haven't panicked, and
they just have to get something going here offensively. Uh,
maybe open it up a little bit. Maybe with the
passing game, colinber has I don't think he's caught a
(48:33):
pass yet.
Speaker 1 (48:33):
Well, there's only been one pass and that was complete
to I think it was yeah, number five Bailey's so yeah.
So yeah, Now Pleasant lined up under center, one back
in the backfield, tight end and slot to the right,
split right, pitch to the outside and just nowhere to go.
Speaker 2 (48:56):
They're getting caught from the backside too. They have got
to get out around the corner a little bit quicker
because the backside people are chasing him. Well, and you
know what that means if the backside, people are catching
from behind. It's time to maybe run a little misdirection.
Speaker 1 (49:11):
Yep, So that's a loss on the play for Niederhauser
of about five yards fourteen, second and fourteen. As we're
under a minute in the first period, Preble Shawnee up
six to nothing over Pleasant.
Speaker 2 (49:25):
Yeah, they're real sketchy about trying to throw the football
this deep in their own territory. Lowry, Yeah, let's see
if they're going to try to do that here.
Speaker 1 (49:33):
Lowry up under center, he hands it off toneter Hauser
and he gets close to the original lion of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (49:40):
But it's still going to be a third and long. Well,
it's going to be third and long, and if they
don't pick up a first down here, they're gonna be
punning close to their own end zone. So make it
third and nine.
Speaker 1 (49:52):
But I think Pleasant will probably let the play clock
run out or the game clock run out, as they're
only about twelve seconds left and Prebl Shawnee only up
six to nothing here in the first period. But it's
really been a first period dominated by the Arrows. So
(50:13):
we'll take a break. When we come back, we'll have
the start of the second period you're listening to high
school football in fourteen ninety WMRN.

Speaker 1 (51:28):
Division five Region twenty Playoff action here at Preble Shawnee
High School Preble Shawnee on top over Pleasant six to nothing,
third down and nine at the Pleasant eleven yard line.
As they have the ball, Owen Lowry alone in the backfield,
spread formation, back to pass, good protection he's looking now.
(51:48):
He rolls to his left, throws it out and that
is complete to call him up to Columber for Matthew
Sondakra first down at the twenty five yard line.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
That is what you were talking about, coach. Yeah, we
were talking about. They haven't hit colinber yet. He's their
go to guy. He likes to run in those zones.
He will settle down. He and Lowry on the same page.
And boy, I was a really nice zip pass. Lowery
rolling to his left. Maybe that's something to get a
spark going offensively.
Speaker 1 (52:15):
When it doesn't look to me like the Arrows are
really trying to bring much pressure. They think they can
get it with their front four, but Lowry's getting decent protection.
Speaker 2 (52:22):
Yeah, they only brought three guys that time because Spartans
were in spread with five wides. Hand off to nieder Houser.
Speaker 1 (52:31):
He cuts up through the thirty, cuts it back across
the thirty five up to the forty and that's a
nice big run by Drew Niederhauser up to the forty
three yard line. Another Matthews Hondaker first down for the Spartans.
Speaker 2 (52:43):
Yeah, maybe the change of the quarter. They like going
in this direction a little better. Eleven forty two to go.
They're down six and they're in this ball game. Definitely,
real nice pitch and catch by Lowery and colinber In.
A real nice run there by Niederhauser and the offensive
line made a nice hole and he looked like he
wanted to really ramble for a long time.
Speaker 1 (53:01):
What I liked about Niederhauser there, he went right into
the hole, but then he looked to the cutback and
it was open. Nice run by Niederhauser. First and ten
for the Spartans. Shifting formation, tight end and slot moved
to the left. One back in the backfield, that's Niederhauser.
Lowery takes it himself and is tackled right away. They
(53:21):
came through there pretty quick. That's a loss back to
the thirty nine yard line.
Speaker 2 (53:27):
You had big number seventy one Cooper Strout six four
two eighty junior. Why I tell you what, he showed
some power and quickness on that getting through there. Somebody
has got to block that kid.
Speaker 1 (53:39):
So it does bring up a second down and thirteen
for the Spartans. Clock is still running here in the
second period, ten forty five in counting. The Arrows up
six to nothing over the Spartans.
Speaker 2 (53:54):
Lowry in the shotgun.
Speaker 1 (53:57):
Back to pass rush coming from the outside and there's
a flag. He does get the pass off, but I
think that's going to be a hold on the left
or right tackle.
Speaker 2 (54:08):
Yeah, they tried to run call him are on a
little shallow drag across the middle. It just wasn't there.
The deep receivers were covered, and they are putting a
lot of pressure on Lowry from the backside.
Speaker 1 (54:24):
And I think they seem to be playing well out
of the spread, but it looked like these last two
plays they were doing some stunning up front. The Arrows
really causing trouble for the offensive line of the Spartans.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
Yeah. I'm really impressed with the defensive line by Preble Shawnee,
and they are really putting pressure because you know, I
think we've done what this is about the fourth game
we've done wasn't Yeah, And these guys are just as
good as any of the guys we've seen. They kind
of remind me of Ontario's defensive line. So it'll be
(55:02):
second down in twenty three at the Pleasant thirty spread
formation three on the near side. Now man emotion Isnederhauser.
They fake to him.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
They throw a screen underneath to Columber up ahead to
the thirty thirty five forty and he gets out of
bounds at about the forty three, almost gets back to
the original line of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (55:24):
That was a very good slip screen underneath. Yeah, those
are the kind of plays that are going to work
against this type of defense. They're very, very very aggressive,
sometimes maybe undisciplined. If they make a mistake, they're going
to make up for it on aggressiveness. So you've got
to counteract that with things like screens and reverses and
things like let their aggressiveness take them out of the play.
(55:47):
And that time, that's what they did.
Speaker 1 (55:48):
Third down in thirteen at the forty yard line of
Pleasant Spartans with the ball down six to nothing to
prebl Shawnee, Niederhauser goes in motion back to pass. Lowry
goes through his progressions. He complete it up to Colimber
for the first down, Colimber, like you said, just sits
down in the zone. Shawnee not playing any man whatsoever.
(56:12):
And that was a nice Matthew Hontaker first down. Now
they're not moving the change yet. They're saying it's a
fourth down. Yeah, I don't think he he marked it back. Yeah,
the referees.
Speaker 2 (56:22):
Foot was about, oh, I don't know, six inches farther
than where they marked it. But uh so they're saying
it's fourth and one.
Speaker 1 (56:31):
That's a that isn't even close. No, he was at
the first down marker. I can understand if it was
maybe inches, but come on now, So Spartan's going right
up under center. I formation Lowry Ringer goes to the
right side at tight end, and now time out by
(56:53):
the Spartans. While we take this time out here on
the field, we'll go ahead and run through some of
the scores. Steubenville up over Buckeye Valley twenty one to nothing.
Perkins over Epersondusky fourteen to nothing. Carrie is beating to
Nora fourteen to seven. Corl Crawford twelve, Monroe Central seven.
(57:16):
Seneca East is up fifteen to nothing over Western Reserve.
Mohawk has a seven to nothing lead over Edgerton, Northmore fourteen,
Caldwell nothing. We have no score reported for Gallion in Ottawa, Glendorf,
River Valley and Vermilion tied at seven right now Centerberg seven,
Eastern six, Grandview Heights fourteen, Elgin nothing, Waterford fourteen, Fairbanks nothing.
Speaker 2 (57:45):
I'm trying to find.
Speaker 1 (57:46):
Let's see if I can find the Ontario score and
the Shelby scorer, Aileen.
Speaker 2 (57:51):
Let's see here.
Speaker 1 (57:52):
Ontario is up over clear Fort seven to nothing and
Shelby is losing to a lighter right now, fourteen to seven.
So those are the scorers with our area teams. Fourth
and one for the Spartans nine to twenty five left
till halftime. One back in the backfield, back deep, as
(58:15):
Lowry lines up under center. Now Lowry rolls to his left,
he throws it out a throwback and in complete.
Speaker 2 (58:26):
Coach. Was that one of those times.
Speaker 1 (58:28):
Where the coaches outthought themselves.
Speaker 2 (58:33):
I think he was trying to throw it to UH
thirty two. That was UH. Can't find his uh. He
usually plays defense scouting scout and he's trying to throw
at the scouting. I'm not sure he's caught too many passes.
(58:54):
But he kind of ran him on a drag and uh,
I don't know if he just over through him or
really what happened there?
Speaker 1 (59:02):
Martin with the carry for the Arrows, he breaks free
across the forty and he has tackled at the Pleasant
thirty five yard line. That's the Matthew Sondager first and
ten that time. He took it to the right side,
and it looks to me like they're planning on running
Morton all night long.
Speaker 2 (59:19):
Well, the Arrows aren't going to wait for Pleasant. I'll
tell you what. That was their chance right there. They
had a nice little drive going. They had a fourth
down and really really short, tried to pass the ball
on a bootleg. I like the call as far as bootleg,
but should have had a little bit better percentage. Guy
in the rock.
Speaker 1 (59:38):
Horton throws it to the flat complete ad the blanket
ship and he has tackled immediately and ball comes out,
and they're saying that he was down when the ball
came out. That's what I thought was happening. But Pleasant
jumped on it right away. It's still completing of about
four maybe five yards for the Arrows.
Speaker 2 (59:56):
Yeah, pretty good swarm tackling there. But right now the arrows.
I tell you that I thought the quarterback was going
to go all the way. He is like shot out
of a cannon, or he was shot off of a
bow like an arrow, because he's tall, he's lean, and
I tell you he's got some wheels.
Speaker 1 (01:00:14):
Second down and six for the arrows. Morton with the
back on each side in the shotgun, fakes the handoff,
runs to the left, and he still is going as
he's tackled, probably picked up about three more yards after
initial contact.
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
I think that was that blanket ship. They put it
back there.
Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
They had Keship and Lovely back there, and I faked
the handoff to a blanket ship, I believe, or was
it to Lovely?
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
Yeah? He yeah, he carried the football for But anyway,
these guys are really coming off the ball. Offensive line
is coming hard and low.
Speaker 1 (01:00:51):
Third down and four for Preble Shawnee. Pleasant needs another stop.
Seven thirty six left until halftime. Preble Shawnee up six
to nothing over the Spartans and a time out taken
by Preble Shawnee. We'll go ahead and take a time
out as well. Seven thirty one till halftime, Shawnee up
six to nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:01:11):
Over pleasant.
Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
You're listening to high school football on fourteen ninety wmrins

Speaker 2 (01:01:15):

Speaker 28 (01:02:14):
The Matthews Honda Akurra High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
Morton throws a pass down the seam incomplete intended for Smith,
and so it does bring up fourth down. It was
a good tight throw, but just way overthrown.
Speaker 2 (01:02:32):
Yeah, I mean that was a really well designed play
going down through there, and he was actually open and
they just couldn't connect. But they're going forth.
Speaker 1 (01:02:42):
Fourth down, fourth and four at the Pleasant thirty yard line,
Morton rolls to his riot. He throws it out and
that is complete. Good coverage there by Ringer, but complete
up to the twenty yard line. Some Matthews Hondakra first
down actually at the nineteen Blankenship senior six ' three,
(01:03:03):
about one eighty five. Real fine athlete out there. He
could run the wildcat, he can go out and catch passes,
he can run the football. But they've got some really
pretty good athletes out there. Playing first and ten at
the Pleasant nineteen for the Arrows, Morton hands it off
(01:03:25):
up straight ahead through.
Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
The ten five and touchdown Seanee. That was lane lovely
and nobody could even get a hand on it. Their
motors are running, their motors are going. I'll tell you what, Jay,
Pleasant just can't match the energy right now that the
Arrows are putting out. They are excited about playing here
(01:03:48):
at home in their first playoff game, and they are
moving the football, nothing fancy.
Speaker 1 (01:03:55):
So that makes the score Preble Shawnee twelve, Pleasant nothing,
six fifty five left until halftime.
Speaker 2 (01:04:06):
Kick us up and that is good. So excuse me.
Speaker 1 (01:04:10):
It was twelve to nothing, now it is thirteen to nothing.
So coach, you know, not only has Preble Shawnee, you
know played well, they literally smacked Pleasant in the mouth.
What do you tell your team if you're coach Westler.
Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
Well, they got to wake up right now. They've got
to get something going. I thought on that last series
with the nice passes that Lowery threw in the nice
and run by Niederhauser, they were gonna make something happen
and get down and tie this thing up. But that
was basically a fourteen point swing, in this case, a
thirteen point swing. They Pleasant didn't get points and their
(01:04:48):
arrows got points. So that's the the old thing. But
right now Pleasant, but you can't count Pleasant out though, No,
they go down. They could put something together this drive,
but defensively right now Pleasant struggling.
Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
So back to receive for the Spartans, they are Colimber
and Burns back out to kick is Colton Strader for
Prebel Shawnee. Kick off is good along the ground, it
goes through a Pleasant player now picked up at the
thirty up head thirty five forty and a nice return there.
It's interesting because Strader obviously has a good leg, but
(01:05:28):
Preble Shawnee feels like we can get the ball back over.
Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
And over if we just kind of squib it. Yeah,
when that one went to Conway, I thought that was
gonna make something happen. He's carried the football this year
thirty two times for two hundred and eight yards and
two TD so he's used to carrying the football and
he is a sophomore. But boy made a nice play
picking it up, advancing the ball. Pleasant has a pretty
(01:05:51):
good field position on the forty one. Very important for
the Spartans to respond here because obviously Prebel Shawnee has
shown they can take as much time as they need.
Three four defense for Shawnee. Lowry in the gun, hands
it off to Niederhauser on the sweep and just nowhere
(01:06:13):
to go a loss of maybe one second down And
that was a fifty six. Brody Lynch and you kind
of you talked about hitting him in the mouth. When
Preble Shawnee is tackling, it's kind of a violent act
is it's a very big collision. And sometimes the Spartans
(01:06:37):
running backs are going backwards, but they have got I
think they're better off if they run Adam because the
Arrows have really great pursuit defensively.
Speaker 1 (01:06:47):
So no gain on that, no loss on that play
back to pass his lowry, he's going deep and tries
to get to Colmber, but they're gone to pass interference.
Speaker 2 (01:06:57):
Well that's the break Pleasant needed to call. Isaac glankin
Chip we just talked about him, six ' three, he's
got a lot of range. He came over to back.
He evidently had his other hand on his back. But
Spartan's are gonna really take it, hopefully, take advantage of this.
So they're gonna get a first down out of this,
(01:07:19):
and maybe that's the thing. I think throwing the football
like that on first down is a good thing to do.
Speaker 1 (01:07:24):
Yeah, And it's obvious that they are getting the protection.
They're running this three four So sometimes for an offensive
line that's not some a defense that Pleasant necessarily faces much.
And as an offensive lineman, especially on a run play,
it kind of gets confusing on who you should be
blocking because you've got linebackers all over the place.
Speaker 2 (01:07:43):
Well, you gotta ride Lowry right now his arm and
in his leg and let him have a chance here.
So you've got to either keep throwing it or have
him run the football.
Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
First and ten at the Shawnee forty four Lowry hands
it off to Niederhauser. He does get ahead for about
three and again that was running straight ahead at that
defense works.
Speaker 2 (01:08:04):
Yeah, and that was a real fine run by Niederhauser.
He turned the corner and he kept his legs turning
and he picked up a couple about four yards. But
that was well earned. And they've got to keep the
arrow defense on us there. And I think the Spartans
understand this is probably the most important series in the game.
With five thirty four to go clock running in the
(01:08:26):
second quarter, they've got to get some points on the
board because Preble Shawnee is not gonna wait on him anymore.
Speaker 1 (01:08:32):
Second and six at the Shawnee forty yard line, Lowry
low in the backfield, five wide blitz up the middle,
Lowry looking goes back to the other side and it
is knocked down. He did read his progressions well and
he had a man open but knocked down at the
lion of scrimmage.
Speaker 2 (01:08:50):
Yeah, not only can they rush, but they put their
hands up just at the right time. You know, big
number seventy one. You know Cooper Stout, he's about six four.
We've already talked about Kayden Taylor. He's six to five
and he's the guy out there on the outside. They
played him to the wide side of the field, putting
a lot of pressure. Fifty six, we've already talked about him.
(01:09:12):
Brody Lynch defensive lineman. He's only six foot that he
comes up underneath the offensive lineman to put pressure on Lowry.
Speaker 1 (01:09:20):
So, third down and six at the Shawnee forty yard line,
and now a timeout taken by Pleasant, I'll go ahead.
Speaker 2 (01:09:29):
I was just going to say, when you only play
three linemen and can get pressure on the quarterback, that's
saying something for those front tell three, and they did
bring a blitz up the middle with one of the linebackers.
Speaker 1 (01:09:40):
My question for you, coach, is would it be more
useful because Lowry's getting decent protection in the pocket, but
moving the pocket a little bit, especially with a receiver
like Colimber who can find that soft spot in the zone.
Speaker 2 (01:09:55):
Well, especially here too, if Lowry can get outside on
that boot action, and if he doesn't have somebody underneath
to get rid of it, he's got to run the football.
He's got to take and get what he can. They're
in basically, I wouldn't say four down territory yet because
you don't want to give them the ball with five fourteen.
The arrows the ball with five to fourteen to go,
(01:10:16):
But it's third down in about seven and if Lowery
doesn't have a man opening, they've got to have a
safe route so that he can dump it and pick
up what they can.
Speaker 1 (01:10:28):
So third down for the Spartans. You hate to say
this early in the game that it is a key drive,
but it is a key drive. Third and six, Well,
they're locked up over here, and they've got an extra
guy that I think is going.
Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
To come off the corner. Here he comes. They are
Lowry looking, he's trying to get away, and now another
penalty flag for a hold. As Lowry gets sacked.
Speaker 1 (01:10:53):
They brought an overloaded blitz on the right side, and
Pleasant has no answer for that.
Speaker 2 (01:10:58):
Well, they have had two receivers on this side, and
they had three defensive backs on this side, and you
could see the corner or the outside linebacker coming up
and putting there, and he came on the outside and
fortunately Lowry was running away from him, but it still
didn't matter. So it is a hold on the Spartans
(01:11:21):
and interesting decision here. They are declining it because it's
a third and relatively long or fourth. It'll make it
fourth and relatively long. Yeah, I don't think he's gonna
be able to sit back in the pocket unless they
have some really quick pass. They passed the colinber last
week against Shelby where he sat down in that zone.
(01:11:44):
He may not have enough time to throw that pass
because they, like you were just mentioned, and even though
they show three, they're bringing four and sometimes five.
Speaker 1 (01:11:53):
And I think Coach Westler's gonna let the clock run down,
take a time out, and more than likely punt, but
I could be wrong. Seventeen seconds left on the play clock,
they're going to go ahead and run a play, fourth
down and six for the Spartans at the Shawnee forty
one back in the backfield next to Lowry. Lowry back
(01:12:15):
to pass, throws it in the middle complete to Columber
and that's a Matthew Hondakra first down up to the
twenty eight yard line that time.
Speaker 2 (01:12:25):
Treble Shawn. He played it safe and they only rushed
three guys thinking they could stay back in that zone.
Colinber did a nice job and sat down in like
in a rocking chair, and boy, I would have liked
for him to not go down on the ground because
there was nobody around him and he could have maybe
picked up some more yardies. But they picked up a
big first down, and that was the most important thing.
Speaker 1 (01:12:47):
I formation for the Spartans. Lowry up under center, Peterhauser
with a full back in front of him, tight end,
think of double tight ends with one receiver out here
to the right. Lowry hands it off to Needterhuser up ahead.
Good gain by Niederhauser up to about the twenty six
(01:13:08):
yard line a game of about three.
Speaker 2 (01:13:10):
Yeah, very nice run there. They pulled the right guard,
kicked out defensive end and Niederhuser followed the block really well.
Looks like they're bringing in their spread personnel here. If
the Spartans can get a score here, take this clock down,
then they get the ball first in the second half
and it becomes a little bit different feeling in this game. Well,
(01:13:32):
you never can count them out. They don't really panic,
they play consistent, and it's just unfortunate. The Arrows were
seemed like they were a little bit more excited to
play from the very beginning. But right now, if i'll
start by the Spartans, that's something they can't do when
especially when you're playing from behind. Down thirteen to nothing,
(01:13:55):
so that.
Speaker 1 (01:13:55):
Moves it back five yards now makes it second down
and twelve.
Speaker 2 (01:14:00):
Clock's gonna run with three thirty eight to go, very
very important series here for the Spartans, spread formation, three
wide receivers up top to here on the near side,
Lowry and shotgun bringingter Houser in motion. Now Lowry gets sacked.
(01:14:22):
The offensive line, the right side of the offensive line
is getting eaten up well. Number twenty two Robert Allen.
And if it's right, he's only a freshman. That can't
be right.
Speaker 1 (01:14:35):
What's his size, because that kid likes pretty good foot pounds.
Speaker 2 (01:14:39):
No, they had a couple airs. I don't understand how
we can get a get a program. Here's well, we
can get a sheet from the school, from the school
and not have correct numbers. On the eleventh ball game
of the season.
Speaker 1 (01:14:53):
Well that's why I printed out another one somewhere on
my own, but I'll have to find it. So a
timeout taken here, and I believe it was Prebel Shawnee.
With the timeout with three or four left until halftime,
they are wanting to preserve some time here. It's going
to be a third and very long third and twenty
(01:15:14):
one Prebel Shawnee.
Speaker 2 (01:15:16):
Again.
Speaker 1 (01:15:17):
They've had a lot of big scores this year, and
so they have not necessarily when you see their film,
they just they've pounded teams. And when you're a team
or you're a team that doesn't know anything about this
other team and you see the competition they're playing, you
don't know how good they are. It's obvious you can
see just watching them right now, this is a very
(01:15:41):
very talented team.
Speaker 2 (01:15:42):
Well one thing for sure, they know how to win
because they won nine ball games, and in spite of
the competition, whatever it may be, they are playing with
a lot of confidence and with a lot of energy.
Speaker 1 (01:15:54):
They're down in twenty one for the Spartans. Niederhaeuser in motion,
Lowry back looking looking.
Speaker 2 (01:16:00):
Now, he rolls to his left. Now he's rolling back
to his right, throws it and incomplete the pocket is
He's getting good or good protection at first, but the guys,
the receivers just aren't seeming to get open quick enough. Well,
see what they're doing. They know that. Basically you have
(01:16:21):
Bailey and colinber are the two main guys. They don't
really go to the tight ends much, and they're they're
just guarding them. They're just covering him, and they're the
front three, and then they're bringing a fourth one sometimes
a fifth one. Are just doing a fantastic job of
putting pressure.
Speaker 1 (01:16:40):
Harrison Moore back to punt for the Spartans, gets the snap.
Speaker 2 (01:16:44):
That one is up.
Speaker 1 (01:16:45):
It's a low kick and rolls out of bounds at
I can't really tell where it went out of bounds.
Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
I think it's inside the twenty. That was Van Houston
punting the football there. He's been a really nice kicker
from I believe it's Harrison Moore punting right now. Oh
is nine? Yeah, okay, I missed that memo at number four,
number four? CI they punted it, okay, yeah, nine punted?
Speaker 1 (01:17:13):
It was I thought it said four, and the announcer
said it was number four as well, yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:17:18):
It looked like nine running off the field, but I
could be wrong. I got bad eyes, all right. First
and ten I think he missed it. First and ten
for the Arrows at their own thirteen yard line, up
twelve to nothing, over pleasant, two fifty left in the half,
hand off to Lovely and he's just bouncing. I mean
(01:17:39):
it's like watching a pinball, you know, the ball in
a pinball game, because he's bouncing off of defenders. Picks
up about eight yards second down. Yeah, they're just going
to be content to run the football here with two
thirty two to go, right before the half. The Arrows
have played a fantastic half up thirteen to nothing and
(01:18:01):
looks like they're going to be content. Definitely, don't want
to make a mistake this deep in their own territory.
Speaker 1 (01:18:07):
To seventeen left, second and four at their own twenty
yard line. Quarterback takes the balls the outside breaks free
across the thirty five and out of bounds at.
Speaker 2 (01:18:21):
The thirty five.
Speaker 1 (01:18:22):
That's the Matthews Hondacter first down for Morton and Preble
Shawnee still picking up huge chunks of yards.
Speaker 2 (01:18:32):
They're running backs. They've got the quarterback and running back
seems like they're a lot quicker, yes, a lot quicker
than the defense and really really working hard.
Speaker 1 (01:18:46):
First down and ten hand off to Blanketship across the
forty out to the forty five to fifty down at
the forty five and inside to the forty two yard line.
That was just a jet sweep, which we had heard
from coach Westler. He knew that was going to be
a problem for the Spartans and he was hoping to
key in on it. And that time another Matthews hont
(01:19:08):
after first down for the Arrows.
Speaker 2 (01:19:10):
And now they're in a situation where instead of just
trying to run it out in the half, they're going
to try to put more points on the board. Horton
runs to the right, tackled right away by Menzer, who
we haven't heard from much tonight. Looked like twenty or thirteen.
Speaker 1 (01:19:24):
Sam Madison twenty four, so it's a gain of one
second and nine.
Speaker 2 (01:19:30):
Yeah. Menzer really excels when a team is a passing
team because he is in the backfield and makes a
lot of sacks. Right now, they're just running right at
him and making things happen offensively. So Spartans have really
got to try to shut him out here before half.
Speaker 1 (01:19:46):
Running to the left, gets a gain of about one
maybe two, brings up a third down and a time
out by the Arrows.
Speaker 2 (01:19:53):
Yeah, it looked like tracten Berg and Burns bonds and
one eighteen. Looks like Prevo Shawnee has called a time
out here up thirteen to nothing before the half, and
the Spartans have got to find an answer defensively for
(01:20:13):
Prebo Shawnee's offense.
Speaker 1 (01:20:16):
So the score here obviously thirteen to nothing, Preble Shawnee
on top. Let's look at some of the other scores
for the Marion County teams and other area teams that
are playing in the first round the playoffs. Tonight, Steubenville
up twenty one to nothing over Buckeye Valley, Perkins up
(01:20:37):
big over Upper Sandusky, forty two to nothing. The winner
of this game will play or excuse me, the winner
of the River Valley game will play Sandusky Perkins. Carl
Crawford Monroe Central tied at fifteen. Mohawk up fourteen to
seven over Edgerton, River Valley up over of a million,
fourteen to thirteen. Grandview Heights beating Elgin twenty seven to nothing.
(01:21:00):
Ottawa Glendorf up over Gallion seven to nothing, third down
and seven for Preble Shawnee. Morton back to pass, not
much pressure. Now he rolls to his left, he's looking
deep downfield. He has a man and that's going to
be pass interference. Easy, Yeah, very easy. And the sad
(01:21:24):
thing is the defender had time to get in position,
but he went behind the receiver and just grabbed his
shoulder bats.
Speaker 2 (01:21:32):
The ball was lofted so high that the defensive back
could have had a chance to turn around and intercept it,
but he just chose to basically shove the receiver out
of bounds before the ball came down. And then there
was another receiver in the area that was interfered on,
So I think there was two guys that contact was
made on. And that's a that's a tough break for
(01:21:55):
Pleasant because that gives Prevo Shawnee with one eight to go,
plenty of time and they are on about the twenty
three yard line.
Speaker 1 (01:22:05):
Eric that's the fourth penalty on the Spartans, only one
penalty against the Arrows first and ten at the Pleasant
twenty four yard line. Preble Shawnee moving the ball, faked
the handoff Morton.
Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
Now he throws it into the corner of the end zone. Interference.
Speaker 1 (01:22:22):
Nope, they're saying good defense. He did peek back once. Yeah,
he did peek back, So that's all that matters. But
they were trying to go for it all right there
into the corner of the end zone. Good defense there
by the Spartans. I believe that was Avery Hamper on
the defense.
Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
You have real good defense there. They dodged one there.
It's gonna be second and ten. But the thing is
the clock did stop with one oho one to go,
so at the time, really isn't isn't a problem for
Prebl Shawnee. They're still going with the spread and they're
going for more points here.
Speaker 1 (01:22:59):
Second and ten, hand off straight ahead to Lovely and
he picks up the first down where they're definitely in
field goal range here. I think they may have been
in field goal range where they were at because that
kid had a leg. So Matthew Sondaker first down up
ahead to the thirteen yard line under a minute left,
forty eight seconds from the thirteen and Preble Shawnee out
(01:23:23):
of timeouts, so they have got to get this going now.
Pleasant taking a timeout, so that helps Shawnee a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:23:33):
Yeah, you might as well call the time out. He
can't take him in the half with you. So this
is we keep saying a big series, big play, but
another seven to fourteen point swing here. Pleasant didn't score
on that drive. They had a deep ended territory and
now Preble Shawnee has turned it the tables on him.
(01:23:59):
It's just remarkable. That's why you play the games, Eric,
That's why you play the games. You got to meet
meet emotion with emotion.
Speaker 1 (01:24:09):
And Shawnee is a big team, not numbers wise that
they they're not a huge numbers team, but these players,
they're starters, are big and even the ones that aren't
quite as tall as the other ones, they're just thick.
They're they're what you want to have a football player.
Speaker 2 (01:24:26):
They're playing with a lot of confidence.
Speaker 1 (01:24:28):
First and ten thirty nine seconds left until halftime, Shawnee
throws to the corner of the end zone incomplete good
coverage thereby colinber that was intended for blanket ship. Second down,
thirty four seconds left.
Speaker 2 (01:24:44):
Right before the half. My daughter in law just texted
me and said, took a picture of my two grandsons,
Jack and Nicholas, and my son John sitting at the
table listening to the Spartans on the radio, says all
three are tuned int Wmrin Pleasant footb all game tonight
and right now those little Spartans aren't real happy with
(01:25:05):
how the big departments are playing. Well.
Speaker 1 (01:25:08):
The Spartans, if they can happen to get a stop
here only going at halftime down thirteen, that would be
big second down and ten at the preble or at
the Pleasant thirteen a swing pass to the outside complete
and losing his footing I believe was Blanka ship clock
keeps running only a gain of about three twenty three
(01:25:28):
seconds left and now a spike, so they are content
with going for the field goal. It would seem fourth
down and six, perfect opportunity to get point here. Shawnee,
I just want to say the offense was staying there
for a while. Shawnee might have been like, ah, we
(01:25:49):
feel like we can go ahead and go for the
first down here, but they are sending out the kicker.
Speaker 2 (01:25:55):
Yeah, sometimes you can be too greedy. And right now
they're playing. They got a whole second half to play.
They get this field goal, being up fifteen, there'll be
fifteen to nothing. Sitting pretty good, playing very well.
Speaker 1 (01:26:08):
About twenty six thirty six yard field goal for Schroeder
and that one is up and it is no good,
so that's big, and the leg was there. Pleasant takes
over with nineteen seconds left, and I would expect they
will probably maybe just down it and go in at
halftime and regroup.
Speaker 2 (01:26:30):
Yeah, they've got a lot of things to discuss at halftime,
but I'm sure their staff will put something together. And
you know, really as good as Preble Shawnee has played,
Pleasant still in this football game, absolutely only down thirteen nothing,
I've seen some really good things out of them at times,
(01:26:50):
but they've just got to put a couple drives together.
So Pleasants offense out on the field, Lowry up under center,
nineteen seconds left and Lowry hands it off Toneederhauser across
the twenty five and he has stopped right there and
(01:27:12):
that will be the end of the first half. So
the first half is over here at the Prebel Shawnee
and Prebel Shawnee and their fans are pretty happy right now,
up thirteen to nothing over the Pleasant Spartans. And again
we've said it all along, we haven't known exactly what
to expect coming down here because we know common opponents
(01:27:37):
between the two schools, but one thing that's obvious is
Prebel Shawnee is a talented, talented team. Yeah, they've come
off the football. The thing that has impressed me is
how aggressive they have been defensively on their tackling and
offensively just moving the ball and they're running back quarterback.
Everything's moving forward, everything's moving down the field. They've definitely
(01:28:00):
impressed us.
Speaker 1 (01:28:01):
So we'll go ahead and take a break and when
we come back, we'll recap the first half again. The
score here in the Division five Region twenty playoff action
Preble Shawnee up over Pleasant thirteen to nothing. We'll be
back here listening to high school football in fourteen ninety WMRN.

Mack Gear Prebel Shawnee High School Preble Shawnee Field for
the Division five, Region six or Region twenty playoff action
Pleasant down to Prebl Shawnee thirteen to nothing. Here at halftime,
I'm Eric Moseley. Let's go through the scoring in the
first half all Prebel Shawnee.
Speaker 2 (01:33:47):
At the.
Speaker 1 (01:33:51):
Nine minute or excuse me, ten fifteen mark, Preble Shawnee
scored on a one yard touchdown run by their quarterback
Morton point after was no good, made the score six
to nothing Prebel Shawnee. Then just a few minutes later,
after Prebl Shawnee had recovered their kick the kickoff and
(01:34:13):
was in Pleasant territory at the eight sixteen mark, they
attempted a forty one yard field goal that was no good,
had plenty of leg Colton Schroeder, a six to two
one hundred and seventy five pounds junior missed that one,
so at the end of one it was six to nothing.
Then at the six fifty five mark in the second quarter,
(01:34:34):
Lane Lovely for Preble Shawnee runs nineteen yards for the
touchdown point after was good and that made the score
thirteen to nothing, which is where we stand right now.
Pleasant had some opportunities, were able to put together a
couple of decent drives into the arrows into the field,
(01:34:55):
but then stalled penalties really hurt the Spartans the first half.
Four penalties against the Spartans totally in about fifty yards.
Prebl Shawnee with just one penalty of pass interference for
fifteen yards, and that's been a big difference. But also
the pressure that the Prebl Shawnee defense has been getting
(01:35:16):
has been very formidable. And the front line, especially only
three rushing. They seem to be doing a great job.
But the thing about it, if you're a Spartan fan,
you're only down thirteen to nothing, you've gotten some really
big stops. So it's still very much a wide open game.
And I would imagine coach Westler is in there telling
(01:35:38):
his players that right now, we'll go ahead and take
another break. When we come back, we'll run through other
area scores again. The score here at PREBL Shawnee High School,

Back here Prebel Shawnee High School for the Matthew Hontaker
High School Game of the Week. Division five Region twenty
playoff action. Prebel Shawnee finds themselves on top over Pleasant
thirteen to nothing. I'm Eric Moseley. Let's go through some
of the other scores involving area teams at halftime right now,
Steubenville up big over Buckeye Valley thirty five to nothing.
(01:40:25):
Vermilion takes the lead over River Valley twenty one to
fourteen at the half. Perkins at the half up over
Upper Sandusky forty two to nothing Colonel Crawford. Monroe Central
tied at fifteen in the second quarter. Mohawk up twenty
one to seven over Edgerton in the second period. Halftime
at Gallion Ottawa, Glendorf up seven to nothing over Gallon
(01:40:48):
Centerberg fourteen Eastern twelve. That game is at halftime. Tanora
takes the lead over Carry seventeen to fourteen. Says he
that's in the fourth quarter. That would be an amazing
feat right now. That game must be going really fast.
Senec East is up over Western Reserve thirty seven to
(01:41:11):
six at halftime. Northmore has the lead over Caldwell forty
two to nothing at the half. Grandview hikes up twenty
seven to nothing over Elgin at the half. Jonathan Alder
ten Bishop Reedy two at halftime, Waterford twenty, Fairbanks seven
(01:41:31):
at halftime. Let's see about Ontario. Ontario is up seven
to two at halftime over Clear Fork, and Shelby is
(01:41:55):
up thirty five to twenty one over a light at half.
That sounds like it's a pretty entertaining game right there.
Of course, both teams here in a really good game
as well. Winner of this game will take on the
winner of Indian Lake and versales. That would be next
(01:42:21):
Friday at the higher seeded team. Our other Marion County teams,
The winner of the River Valley Vermilion game will take
on the winner of the Sandusky Perkins Upper Sandusky game,
which would appear at this point to be Sandusky Perkins,
so that winner of the River Valley Vermilion game will
(01:42:43):
travel to Sandusky Perkins.
Speaker 2 (01:42:46):
And then with.
Speaker 1 (01:42:47):
Elgin, the winner of their game against Grandview Heights will
face the rental winner of the Colonel Crawford Monroe Central game.
So of action still ahead, only the first week of
the playoffs, and this is just what everybody looks forward to.
Speaker 2 (01:43:06):
Right now.
Speaker 1 (01:43:06):
The Preble Shawnee marching band out on the field, and
you know, I'll tell you, not a big marching band,
but a great sounding band. They're very talented. This is
just what you would expect out of a small community.
This is what we're used to in Marion County with
most every school and coach Couzio is back here to
join me and coach. It just seems like this this
(01:43:29):
small town feel. That's that's one of the things that
makes high school football great. The people here have really
treated us well, and you know, offered to hold open
the door when I was coming up through. I had
popcorns and hot dogs and a couple of waters and very.
Speaker 2 (01:43:46):
Nice people down by the concession stand and very helpful.
But yeah, if small town feel here, real nice people,
and I'll tell you what, they've got some pretty nasty
football players right now. Hitting Yeah, and then really take
to the Spartans. But you know, like we said, in
spite of how the Spartans have played, they're still in
(01:44:07):
this football game. They get the ball in the second half,
and coaches could come up with some something that they
can be a little bit more consistent. But I guess
the object of the game here in the second half
is obviously keep the ball away from the Arrows, try
to get something in the end zone, get this thing
close and maybe for a mistake, maybe force the fumble. Whatever.
(01:44:29):
You know, they'll take whatever they can. You know, they
got the interference. Arrow's got an interference called on them
because they threw the football and you got to put
pressure on their defense, and they did do that, but
just made a mistake there at the end of that
and didn't didn't get the first down, didn't get the
score because they were really moving the ball well in
that drive.
Speaker 1 (01:44:49):
Yes, they were, And I had mentioned a little bit
earlier the Spartans really haven't done all that bad. The
penalties probably what killed them the most, but they had
some good sustained drives. And if you're a Spartan fan,
you should feel pretty good right now. You never feel
good being down. But we've seen the Spartans come back

And we talked about some of the some of the

Back here at Shawnee High School, Preble, Shawnee as they
have the lead over the Pleasant Spartans thirteen to nothing.
Speaker 2 (01:49:15):
Just about the end of halftime. Eric Moseley alongside.
Speaker 1 (01:49:17):
Coach John Cuzio, I want to give a quick shout out.
We're fortunate enough to be able to do this and
we get to hear from a lot of people are listening.
Speaker 2 (01:49:29):
Somebody that.
Speaker 1 (01:49:31):
Has a pretty good connection to both coach and I,
Craig Hessen, is listening down in Tennessee right now, and
he said that we're coming in loud and proud down there.
And I had the pleasure of graduating with Craig and
and playing football alongside of him, and you had the
pleasure of coaching him and his brother.
Speaker 2 (01:49:52):
Yeah, I would have liked to have had about ten
more of those Hessens. I'll tell you what. They make
coaches look smart. Uh yeah, they really great, great kids
and real fun to work with Doug and Craig and
and all those kids over the years. But yeah, just really,
I'm glad he's listening. Uh hopefully we're you know, bringing
(01:50:15):
it to him. But I know that he probably really
isn't too concerned about the fact that pleasants down thirteen.
Speaker 1 (01:50:23):
Well, he's a he is a loyal comment, Yeah, a
loyal comment.
Speaker 2 (01:50:26):
And and there's no question about it. But I'm sure
he's probably rooting for the Marion County team.
Speaker 1 (01:50:32):
I'll tell you right now, though, this Lion of Shawnee
team looks like they're full of Hessens.
Speaker 2 (01:50:36):
These are tough kids.
Speaker 1 (01:50:38):
They they definitely play the game with discipline, They play
it well. And it's not that they do anything real extravagant.
They just do everything well.
Speaker 2 (01:50:48):
Yeah, they're they're executing the basic fundamentals in a very
violent way. Yeah and very you know, to the book
and just carry through their blocks. And they and like
we said, I guess the word to describe their defense
is they've got some stout guys up front that are
very aggressive, and uh, you know when they go to
(01:51:09):
three man front defensively, they can they can hold their
own and uh, I don't know if they have any
farming around here, but I'll tell you what. They're some
big kids and really, really it looked like they'd love
to play football. And I was walking down by the
concession stands. You could hear the buzz down there with
grandpa's and uncles and dads and brothers and sisters really
(01:51:34):
talking about this team. So coach, real quick, if you're pleasant,
what do you think would be the things they need
to focus on to maybe try to get back into
and maybe get a lead in this game. Well, they've
got to put a consistent drive together and dedicate e
eleven people on the field offensively have got to dedicate
themselves to get a drive and carry out their blocks
(01:51:56):
to the best of their ability so that they can
and catch the football and run and do whatever they
need to do. They're not outmatched by this team, they're
just not executing. They're not fulfilling, you know, the offensive attack.
They had some really good plays, but they just haven't
been able to put one together. I think if they
would get a drive together and get some points on
(01:52:19):
the board that would settle their team down a little
bit and then get a big break defensively, and they're
right back in this football game.
Speaker 1 (01:52:26):
So Pleasant, we'll receive the ball first here in the
second half. I did get some clarification. It is Van
Houston who is punting and kicking, so we were right.
You were right, coach. See the spotter for them.
Speaker 2 (01:52:41):
I thought it was a four because the fours kind
of looked like a nine. But right now, so give
them that one.
Speaker 1 (01:52:47):
Yeah, Burns and Columber back to receive, but they have
not gotten any kicks back to them. This one gone
along the ground again, comes up to Pleasant. That's Burns
and he gets the ball at about the twenty five
and is tackled at about the twenty nine. A Pleasant
player is down. It looks like scowled in thirty two.
(01:53:12):
Just slow to get up. So time out on the field,
you know, coach. I avoided putting my gloves on because
you said, no, glo, you don't wear gloves.
Speaker 2 (01:53:24):
And what am I seeing right now? Well, I got
to get a drink of water. Water, it's a little
little cold. I didn't even realize I put them on.
I'm going to take them off just because you said that. Well, no,
keep them on, because now I feel like I can
put mine on. You can put them off. You can
put them off. I can't. I got it in half.
Speaker 1 (01:53:40):
I got to try to be as tough as you.
You tried to train me to be for years.
Speaker 2 (01:53:45):
You know. The funny thing, I was walking down there
and there's like people down there in T shirts. Oh yeah,
and it's like, Okay, it was sunny today, so it
did mild up a little bit, maybe down here since
it's farther south, but it's not Florida. And I mean
I see these high school kids. Some of them are
in T shirts and light light shirts.
Speaker 1 (01:54:05):
I'm like, my good, Well, let's face it, when we
were teenagers, we weren't really good thinkers either. So well,
I think the Spartan band they always have that tradition
where the guys would run down through their I think
it's between the third and fourth quarter yep, and without
a shirts on. But I'm I think they're wishing that
could happen tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:54:26):
Well we'll see.
Speaker 1 (01:54:27):
I've seen them do it in cold weather, so we'll
see the temperature right now forty four degrees. We started
at the game at fifty one, so it's dropped considerably
since the start of the game, and we knew it would.
But again it's still football.
Speaker 2 (01:54:44):
Weather as.
Speaker 1 (01:54:47):
Good thing scouting walking off the field with his own power.
So Spartans will start first and ten at their own
twenty nine yard line, and like you said, coach, I
would think they were probably going to look to put
the ball in the air a little bit. But also
when they were running between the tackles, they seemed to
(01:55:08):
be able to pick up about three or four yards
a chunk.
Speaker 2 (01:55:10):
Yeah, I was gonna mention Burns tried to take it
to the outside on that kickoff return. I think he's
better off just to run it up the middle because
their pursuit is really good. In same way offensively, I
think you're right bringing it up the middle. Well, pay dividends.
Speaker 1 (01:55:26):
For Himneterhuser in motion hand on no fake out Toneterhauser
and he has tackled right away. Really good job there
on the outside. It was you know, the defender was blocked,
but he just went through the block and was able
to stop it for no gain.
Speaker 2 (01:55:43):
Well, Ringer was out here on the outside. He's a
big tight end, but he came out to throw the block.
That was a well designed play. But I'll tell you what,
the young man made a real fine play. I thought
Olga Ratley might have got called for maybe a tackle
offensively on the defensive man. It was a little close.
Speaker 1 (01:56:00):
So second down and ten at the pleasant twenty nine
yard line, Lowry and the gun back on each side
of him. He goes ahead and runs it straight ahead
and now tries to cut it outside. He got held up,
ran into an offensive lineman who was getting pushed back.
And again no gain here for the Spartans.
Speaker 2 (01:56:21):
Well, they thought they could run up the middle, but
they really really nowhere to go, and the offensive line
has got to get some push on the defensive line
for the Arrows, well, and they got a third and nine.
They've got to get something here because I don't think
(01:56:41):
the Arrows are gonna wait on him.
Speaker 1 (01:56:43):
That's the thing with a three man front, really, your
job mostly is to hold up the line so the
linebackers can come up and fill third down. They did
give him a game of one. Third down to nine.
Peterhauser in motion to the right, Lowry back to pass,
looking looking good. Protection steps up throws it out there
and through the hands of the intended receiver, and I
believe that Wasniederhauser.
Speaker 2 (01:57:04):
Fourth down, Yeah, that would have been a first down.
He was right on the other side of the sticks,
but ball was I thought, shrug pretty well, but pretty
good coverage there knocking the ball away and the Spartans
are forced to punt the ball and it is van.
Speaker 1 (01:57:20):
Usen van Houston back there to punt at his own
fifteen yard line. And we know Van Newsen if he
gets an opportunity he can boom him. Good snap, good kick,
and that comes down at about the thirty eight, rolls
(01:57:40):
back past the thirty and down inside the twenty or
inside the twenty five at about the twenty four yard line.
Speaker 2 (01:57:50):
Really a nice kick down there. I'm gonna try to
find uh. The center was McGowan, Aiden McGowan, and I
got to mention him because he's a senior and he's
been doing the punt snapping for pleasant for basically four years,
three to four years. And he really zipped that ball
(01:58:11):
back very nicely. And you know, being a pun snapper,
people think that's an easy job, but it's a very
stressful job and a very well needed job, and he
really does a nice job for the Spartans.
Speaker 1 (01:58:23):
And Lovely with the carry and no gain on that
a little bit of misdirection play there had Blankenship coming
in motion. They faked it to him going left and
brought it to Lovely going right. Good job by the
Spartan defense. Second down and ten, two backs in the backfield,
(01:58:46):
two wide receivers.
Speaker 2 (01:58:48):
On the far side.
Speaker 1 (01:58:50):
In the gun is Morton and he hands it off
the Lovely outside and he breaks through about three arm
tackles and gets a gain of about three yards, brings
up third down.
Speaker 2 (01:59:03):
Yeah, this starting out like it did in the first half.
Caden Taylor, number thirty, the big tight end six '
five out here on the lead block. Basically he's just
tying up the defensive end outside linebacker and they're just
bouncing one way or the other. And that time Pleasant
did a really nice job of holding him to only
(01:59:23):
get a couple. But that's exactly what they're doing. Let's
see if they're going to try to just shorten this
game by keeping the ball on the ground or whether
they're going to open it up. One back in the backfield.
Speaker 1 (01:59:33):
There goes Morton and he does get tackled right away,
so only a gain of about one. That brings up
fourth down and could be a punting situation here for
the Arrows.
Speaker 2 (01:59:44):
Yeah, that was Menser and Tracktenberg showing their wares there
on that fourth down, Pleasant getting it back. So things
are looking up for Pleasant. They've got to get something
going here. I'd like to see Burns maybe able to
field the punt here and see if he can get
something going.
Speaker 1 (02:00:00):
On to return Schroeder back at his own sixteen to
punt and only I mean they've had under five punts
all season. This is maybe their fifth punt of the year.
Snap is back, kick us up. Not a good punt
goes out of bounds at the actually stayed in. It's
(02:00:22):
at the Pleasant forty eight yard line. Spartan start with
really good field position.
Speaker 2 (02:00:26):
Well, I was just going to say the first punt
he had was really a nice punt, but now see
it's kind of maybe taking its toll a little bit
the punting game. They didn't get the block, but they
sure have very good field position on that.
Speaker 1 (02:00:40):
I want to ask you, coach, because that drive only
took up maybe a minute and a half, so I
know one of your big proponent of clock management, and
right now you would think that that would be what
they would do on offense, but they really didn't.
Speaker 2 (02:00:56):
They were quick. Well that's why I mentioned that. I
think they want to get up there and go quick.
They don't want to slow down their rhythm. But it's
a little too early to maybe start thinking about clock manage.
But they just have to keep playing their game. But
they definitely want to stay in bounds. When they had the.
Speaker 1 (02:01:12):
League, Niederhauser takes it to the right, cuts across the
fifty of ahead to the forty five and tackled at
the forty yard line. Nice run by Drew Niederhauser for
thirteen yards.
Speaker 2 (02:01:22):
That was a definite effort play with flinchbaw big number
seventy seven leading the way. But boy, he had a second, third,
fourth effort. And the Spartans are lining up very quickly
first down and getting ready to snap the ball.
Speaker 1 (02:01:37):
Matthews Hondaker first down, lowry back to pass.
Speaker 2 (02:01:39):
He's going deep. He's got burns and he's got him.
He burns, He's got him. No, Well he dropped it.
That gone itt. Wow, it was kind of quiet over here,
look like he had it. I didn't see a signal
by any.
Speaker 1 (02:01:56):
No, No, he had that it right through. I think
they may have knocked it out right at the last second.
Speaker 2 (02:02:04):
He had a man. You could tell what the game
plan was going to be coming out in the second half,
they lined up. Howser got a big first down on
his carry, and they lined right up and went with Burns,
and boy, the Arrows dodged a bullet there. They would
have been shell shocked if that would have been able
to be executed by the Spartans.
Speaker 1 (02:02:23):
I like the aggressiveness here by the Spartans early and
on first down. Take a shot, see if you can
do it.
Speaker 2 (02:02:32):
It's like another team came out of the locker room
in the second half.
Speaker 1 (02:02:35):
So far second, second down and ten, they're moving formation,
switching receivers from one side to the other. Spread formation,
three wide receivers near side, two on the far side.
Lowry takes a step now, he runs up, gets tackled,
but not after until after a four yard game, so
(02:02:55):
a third down in about six or seven.
Speaker 2 (02:02:58):
He had what they did. They flopped the four and
they had Burns clear over here on the left side,
and they he had to run clear to the right
and basically line up about two feet from the sideline
to run a quarterback draw. So they're just trying to
get the Arrows confused there. But the Spartans are on
the move a little bit here. Big another big third
(02:03:20):
down play. Third down and six for the.
Speaker 1 (02:03:22):
Spartans at the Arrow's thirty six yard line. Lowry and
the gun man in motion is tracting Bird. Lowry back
to pass, he's pressure, throws it underneath on a slip screen,
caught by Burns. He breaks free and that's enough for
Matthew's hondakra first down and a flag late hit out
of mounds.
Speaker 2 (02:03:42):
Real nice play executed by the Spartans that time. They
ran a guy in motion. Lowry did a nice job
of looking over here to the left side where all
the action was going on, and he turns around, hits
Dylan Burns on the outside, picking up a first down,
and then little extracurricular activity. Let's see what it is.
Speaker 1 (02:04:03):
Yeah, it's a personal foul and it looks like it's
against Shawnee.
Speaker 2 (02:04:06):
So this is a turning point in the game right here,
with seven twenty six to go in the third quarter.
This is exactly what the Spartans needed. They've got a
little bit of blood flowing right here to get something
going here, they get something in. We got ourselves a
ball games.
Speaker 1 (02:04:22):
So now that puts the ball after the penalty at
the Preble Shawnee fourteen yard line, and that slip screen
has been wide open. It's an overly aggressive defense that
works very well, but on that slip screen it is
big time.
Speaker 2 (02:04:39):
Yeah, and Burns is very very quick once he gets
the football. And real nice play by Burns.
Speaker 1 (02:04:46):
Five wide Lowry a loan in the backfield first and
ten man in motion is Niederhauser. Now Lowry rolls to
his left, spins away, gets away from a defender across
at fifteen and out of bounds at the eleven. So
Lowry doing a really good job there of avoiding the sack.
Speaker 2 (02:05:07):
Yeah, real good job. That's exactly what you want to
see by your quarterback. He's a senior. He deserves an
opportunity to keep the ball in his hands whenever you
need him to. And that time he made a good
decision not throwing it away and trying to pick up
what he could. He picked up about two yards, possibly
close to three. Real smart play by the senior.
Speaker 1 (02:05:26):
Second down and seven seven seventeen left in the third period,
Shawnee is up thirteen to nothing over Pleasant, but Pleasant
is driving Lowry and the gun has Niederhuser to his left.
Three wide receivers on the left side, one alone up
top his burns one on one. Lowry rolls to his left.
(02:05:48):
Now he runs across the ten maybe a gain of
about two brings up third down.
Speaker 2 (02:05:56):
Real nice play there, coming to the left side. They're
picking up yardage Tracktenburg looks like he's replacing Scaldon who
was injured on the kickoff, and they're just putting him
out there in that slot formation, using him as a blocker.
He's the one that has a cast on his hand,
but it is padded and I'm not sure they're gonna
(02:06:17):
go catch any throw any passes to him, but they're
using him. And I really like that because he's a
senior and giving him an opportunity to help win or
lose this football game by his blocking out there. Third
down and five at the nine yard line, Lowry back
to pass, throws a.
Speaker 38 (02:06:36):
Bull acepted down the sideline.
Speaker 2 (02:06:40):
Lowry the one to beat and they cut it across
and that one's going to the house. He didn't see
that one coming. He just looked to his right, went
back to the left and that kid was sitting on
that slant and picked it off and you know, you
know the rest of it. And I'm.
Speaker 1 (02:07:01):
That was Rehys Smith with a ninety eight yard interception
and literally that was a gut punch by the Arrows.
Speaker 2 (02:07:13):
Wow, that's all I can say. That was definitely devastating.
And the arrows are back up. They were, they were bending.
They had really a bad penalty on the sideline over
there to enable the Spartans to keep their drive moving.
And that kid just sat on that when he turned
(02:07:35):
around and he threw it.
Speaker 1 (02:07:36):
Lowry didn't even seem Yeah, he was sitting on it.
Kick us up and kick is no good. So with
the ninety eight yard interception returned by I believe that
(02:07:57):
was who did I say that was number Greece Smith?
Oh kicking no, no, no on the interception return ree
Smith with the return and that makes the score Shawnee
nineteen Pleasant nothing and it's I mean, it really did
(02:08:20):
feel like a gut punch.
Speaker 2 (02:08:21):
Well. Pleasant had some life, man, they had some life.
They were playing like they were going to turn this
thing around and they still can, but picking up some
yards and a lot of second efforts and some good passes,
good catches, some good runs. Almost had the touchdown with
Burns in the end zone in early in that drive
with a long pass and that happened. So let's see
(02:08:46):
see whether or not they can shake that off and
keep on plugging. Here a lot of time, six thirteen
to go, they're down nineteen.
Speaker 1 (02:08:54):
Well, the one thing is Shawnee has left a lot
of points on the field with the missed extra points
kickoff lands at the thirty taken by Burns across the
thirty thirty five to forty forty five up to the
forty nine yard line. So Dylan Burns bringing Pleasant back,
and you're right, coach, still time left. If there's one
(02:09:16):
downside for prebl Shawnee is that their first offensive drive
lasts him in and a half. And now with the score,
they still haven't taken a ton of time off the clock.
But Pleasant with their drive was taking time off. But
Pleasant still has the ball now.
Speaker 2 (02:09:32):
Well, Pleasant has just got to loosen up and go.
Now they've got to open things up. I'm not saying
they shouldn't run the football. They can mix it up
but they have got to get something here. On this drive,
they're right on the forty nine yard line, so they're
in a great field position.
Speaker 1 (02:09:46):
Lowry and the gun tracking Berg in motion. Now he
goes back handoff, goes to Niederhauser, and he gets across
the fifty and breaks free down the sideline. He gets
the first down. Now, penalty flag thrown. I don't know
so well what it was, but if it stands, that's
a Matthews honaker a first down.
Speaker 2 (02:10:05):
I think it could be a face mask. But on
the other side of the field, yeah, I saw him.
I thought he had his jersey, but could have been
his face mask. But a great effort here, here's where
that's gonna help. Here's where the Spartans have got to understand,
and I'm sure they do. They've been well coached. Niederhauser
get what he can and then get out of bounds. Yep.
(02:10:27):
The clock's gonna stop on the first down, but then
it's gonna wind back up. So when you're down nineteen points,
you have got to play perfect football from here on
in offensively.
Speaker 1 (02:10:38):
And pleasant has been right there, just a few mistakes
that have cost them. But right now, another great opportunity,
and really the interception was big, but pleasant has dominated
this third quarters.
Speaker 2 (02:10:53):
Yeah, they've got to get something here on this drive.
They've got to get something going because defensively they were
able to stop them, stop the arrows. But let's see
they're going to pack it in a little bit tighter
here going to a wing up under center is lowry.
Now tight end moves to the left side and the
(02:11:14):
slot moves over there first and ten back to pass
his Lowry.
Speaker 1 (02:11:19):
He's going to the middle of the field. Just too
deep for Burns. Burns, they've found something with him. He's
getting behind the defense that time, just a little bit
too much. If he had taken a little bit off
of it, that was a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (02:11:30):
Well, that's a kid that had the interception, and they're
hoping that he was going to be hanging around up
in the flats, but they just went for a basic post.
They had everybody in. That was a one man route.
Safety was clear over on the other side. So it
was either going to be a touchdown or overthrown. That time,
it was overthrown.
Speaker 1 (02:11:50):
Second down in ten five point fifty one left in
the third period, Pleasant down nineteen to nothing. Ball is
at the Shawnee twenty six yard line. Again. I like
the big shot on first down, tracting Berg in motion.
Lowry keeps himself. No, he does hand off to Niederhauser.
Niederheuser bulls ahead for three maybe four yards.
Speaker 2 (02:12:12):
Yeah, that's exactly what Preval Shawnee wants him to do.
They want him to run the football. They want to
keep the clock moving, and they're just gonna make them
line up one more time defensively. That's what their philosophy
is gonna be from here on in. Make Pleasant lineup
one more time. Don't get VD. Pleasant's moving another big
(02:12:35):
third down play, third and seven. It's very manageable. I
look for him to uh. They got burns out here.
One on one. Colin Ber was in the backfield. Now
moves into the slot. Linebacker's coming on the right side
out to Colinber. Complete up ahead to the fifteen yard line,
and that is close to a first down. They are
(02:12:58):
saying it's a Matthews for a first down by Colinber
And we've said this every time we watch Pleasant play.
Colinber catches the ball in his hands, very nice. He
has soft hands. He is wearing his gloves but so
am I. So that's allowed, But no, I'm very impressed
(02:13:20):
with the way he catches football. Very nice passed by Lowry.
And right now the Spartans are knocking on the door
here they get something in here. Still a lot of
time in this football game. With five h two to
go in the third quarter.
Speaker 1 (02:13:31):
And colinber got out of bounce that stop the clock
Kneedterhuser in motion. Now they throw it out to him
and oh just threw his hands. That was a little
fake to the other back with Niederhauser just kind of
going out almost like a swing pass and just out
of his hands, and he had one defender in front
of him that he probably could have gotten by.
Speaker 2 (02:13:50):
Yeah, that was a very well designed play. Lowry threw
just a little bit too hard out of his reach,
bounced off his hands. But it looks like the Spartans
are going to try to, you know, keep the ball
in the air, try to minimize the clock running as
much as they can. Obviously they haven't gone to Latham
McCants out on the outside, number eighty four. He's lined
(02:14:12):
up out there pretty much one on one with Isaac Blankenship.
Very fine athlete.
Speaker 1 (02:14:18):
Back to pass his Lowry. Now he goes into the flat.
That's Taneederhauser up ahead to the ten and he does
get out of bounds right at the first down marker.
Speaker 2 (02:14:28):
They said, well, it didn't work the first time, let's
run it again, and that time Lowry had real nice
touch on it. Nederhauser made a real nice catch, bounced
off of one guy. Got enough. You know, they's seventy one.
He's just out a yard short.
Speaker 1 (02:14:44):
But that is at the six yard line, so the
Spartans can get a first down inside the ten.
Speaker 2 (02:14:50):
And the good thing about it, Eric there's still four
to forty six to go in the third quarter.
Speaker 1 (02:14:55):
Two backs in the backfield, one on each side of Lowry.
Speaker 2 (02:15:01):
Third down and.
Speaker 1 (02:15:02):
One now in motion goes Niederhauser. Lowry runs to the
right side. Now there's a flag. I think it's a hold.
He did get the first down, but I think.
Speaker 2 (02:15:12):
That is a hold. Yep.
Speaker 1 (02:15:15):
Every time it seems like, just when they're getting ready
to make something happen, there's a mistake. That's frustrating for
a coach, it's a frustration for the team.
Speaker 2 (02:15:27):
Yeah, it's definitely very frustrating. They have worked so hard
to try to get back to this point. They're still
moving the football, they're still executing, but they've got to
get something put together, be consistent. And somebody got called
for holding.
Speaker 1 (02:15:44):
There well, and they were bringing the blitz, and that
seems to be when the hold is happening. All the
holding calls have been on a major blitz up the middle.
And so now it's third down and eleven at the
prebl Shawnee sixteen yard line.
Speaker 2 (02:15:58):
No backs in the.
Speaker 1 (02:15:59):
Backfield, four or far to the left, one to the right,
single coverage up top on Burns man in motion from
left to right as Neederhauser back to pass. Now Lowry
rolls to his right. He's looking looking, he takes off
and he does get out of bounds short of the
first down.
Speaker 2 (02:16:16):
Definitely four down territory here. This is going to be
a manageable fourth down. But they bring the ball back. Wow,
like he went out about oh my goodness, they brought
it clear back about seven yards. Wow. It looked like it.
Speaker 1 (02:16:29):
Was good way farther up than that one or two.
So it's fourth down and seven.
Speaker 2 (02:16:35):
He ways, that's uh, this is gonna be a tough
one here. Yep. Let's see where they're going I like
him to go to colinber well wherever he may be.
Speaker 1 (02:16:45):
Here's the thing, you know, more than likely they are
going to bring pressure, especially up the middle. Try to
find a hot route that slits down in the middle
of the field. Colinber was in the backfield. Now he
moves to the right side the slot. No backs in
the backfield. Here comes the pressure. Lowry back to pass.
He throws it out there complete and it's short of
(02:17:06):
the first down. Colimber went out a bound short of
the first down, and now it's a turnover on downs
the defense and Colimber was trying to get to that
first down marker right where the route which should be run,
but the defender was right there on him.
Speaker 2 (02:17:24):
Yeah, his momentum just he could not get his shoulders
turn to get another yard. Very good play by the
defensive back. Once again, Colinberg catching the ball very well,
but just could not get that extra yard for a
first down. And now the Arrows with four h seven
to go, being up nineteen to zero over the Spartans
(02:17:45):
have the football and coaches down there probably going we
just have to worm our way out of a shadow
of our own goalpost. Here take some time off the
clock and get to that fourth quarter.
Speaker 1 (02:17:58):
First down and ten ball is at their own seven.
Hand off to Lovely and he grinds forward for a
gain of about three maybe four.
Speaker 2 (02:18:08):
Second down. Well, they're just gonna take their time. And
this is where you're gonna start seeing a team that's
up nineteen nothing, knowing that you don't have to win
by any more than that. Their guys are going to
be staying in bounds. They're taking their time. Looks like
the coaches having them come up very slowly. And second six.
Speaker 1 (02:18:38):
Three left here in the third period, hand off to
blanket Ship and he has tackled right away. I don't
think he got a yard on that carry. Third down.
Speaker 2 (02:18:51):
I look for the quarterback to keep the ball a
lot of the times, and when he carries a ball,
even up the middle, he's his body's leaning forward. The
coach is really doing a good job of keeping his
team back. They're taking their time. Three to zero two,
the clock's running, and the clock is the Spartan's enemy.
Speaker 1 (02:19:10):
Right now, Spartans get the stop here. There's still time
to be able to get a punt return in good
field field position, but they've got to get the stop here.
Third down and six arrows at their own eleven back
to pass Morton. He rolls to his left. Now he
throws it deep downfield of defender or no defender there,
(02:19:31):
and receiver gets it and he is out of bound giving.
Speaker 2 (02:19:35):
Him the catch. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:19:36):
I mean that was just he got behind every single defender,
nobody paying any attention to him, and that is all
the way up to the forty three yard forty four
yard line. Not what the Spartans needed right then.
Speaker 2 (02:19:50):
I think that was Caleb blank and Chip on the catch.
That ball was in the air for like ten minutes
and came down. Uh, well, that's a backbreaker right there.
Not only is it give him a first down, but
it gets him out of their own territory to the
point where they're close to the fifty yard line here
and now they can run pretty much anything they want.
(02:20:13):
Morton in the shotgun, fakes the handoff, now runs it himself,
and he's tackled for a gain. Oh his blanket Ship
on the carry he was back at quarterback a gain
of about four. He runs that wildcat at times. So
(02:20:33):
they want to give the other quarterback break, they just
put him back there. They got Caleb Blanket Ship and
Isaac Blankinship. One's a sophomore, the one that just caught
the pass, and the other one's a senior.
Speaker 1 (02:20:47):
Second down and seven at the Arrows forty seven yard
line and swing pass to the left, breaks a tackle.
That's blanket Ship ahead for the first down. He breaks
free and down the sideline and he keeps going. One
(02:21:09):
man to beat and he goes out of bounds inside
the ten.
Speaker 2 (02:21:14):
They just keep going like the ever ready battery. They
don't stop their feet, they don't stop for anything, and
the Spartans could not wrap him up. He broke what
three or four tackles and they finally were able to
get him out of bounds. It looks like they're going
to put the ball definitely inside. That's five year and
three about the three knocking on the door one more
(02:21:35):
time at the Arrows have not had the ball on
offense hardly at all in this period. Now they have
the chance to put another touchdown on the board. First
and goal at the three hand off to Lovely. He's
tackled right away. No gains. Like Caleb Young was underneath
the pile number sixty one. We talked about him early
(02:21:59):
in the broadcast. He's one of those unsung heroes, does
all the stuff that you want him to do as
a football player, and he's in on a lot of plays.
Speaker 1 (02:22:08):
And the Spartans you can just you can just feel
the energy. I mean, they had so much energy here
in this third quarter, and you just feel it has
just completely gone out of them.
Speaker 2 (02:22:21):
Yeah, you're down two scores. You've got to play perfect football.
And even when they through the interception, they still bounce
back and almost had one down there inside, but to
no avail. Now the Arrows are knocking on the door
going in.
Speaker 1 (02:22:39):
It would be Morton on the carry and a touchdown
there for Morton. So with that touchdown at the forty
nine second mark, Trevil Shawnee extends the lead to twenty
five to nothing. Over Pleasant is not what we expected.
(02:23:02):
I definitely did not expect this. But uh, I had
a little bit of a disadvantage. I didn't see this
team on film.
Speaker 2 (02:23:11):
I would have if I would have seen him on film,
I probably wouldn't have even uh, even though I really
thought Pleasant was really ready to go. But uh, you
got to give it. You got to give credit to
this uh Preble Shawnee Arrows. They're a fine ball club. Well,
(02:23:32):
and you just don't know. That's the thing about the
state playoffs. We're every team is starting out on.
Speaker 1 (02:23:39):
The same level. There's zero zero, the only the only
a few teams actually end up playing a team from
their own conference, especially in the first round. So you're
trying to figure out as much as you can and
there's only so much you can tell from film.
Speaker 2 (02:23:52):
And I think that these kids when they play in
their conference, they have so much emotion anyway, especially in
Marion County, they know each other and that's what plays
into the game. These kids don't know each other, so
they're just playing football. They're executing, try and execute, trying
to get get excited about it. And right now, Preble Shawnee,
(02:24:14):
they've got some pretty good athletes that are actually executing
pretty well tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:24:18):
Yes they are, and very impressive. This is not going
to be if they do move on, and right now
it looks like they will will not be an easy
team to face at all.
Speaker 2 (02:24:30):
So I'll go ahead, coach no. I was just going
to say, I always like when we do games in
the playoffs, regardless of whether or not the Marion County
teams win or lose, or from the conference, the ones
that we do. I like to kind of check out,
you know, week to week, how they fare as these
teams progressed through the tournament.
Speaker 1 (02:24:51):
Kick is fielded at the thirty five up ahead to
the forty and tackled at the fifty yard line. I
was Conway Conway with the carry there.
Speaker 2 (02:25:01):
Yeah, sophomore, he's going to be probably looked upon to
carry a little bit of the load next year. As
a junior. He had some carries this year. He talked
about him, Ryan Conway thirty two carries, two touchdowns this year,
so he's probably going to be the heir apparent.
Speaker 1 (02:25:22):
Toneedterhauser first and ten at midfield for the Spartans. Under
a minute left in this third period, Lowry back to pass,
he's looking deep now, throws it out into the flats
to Niederhauser. Just took his eyes off of it, saw
(02:25:42):
the defender coming incomplete.
Speaker 2 (02:25:45):
Yeah, right now, things aren't going too well at all.
Right now, Nieterhauser tried to run before he caught it,
kind of looked up, took his eye off the off
the ball, and.
Speaker 1 (02:26:00):
They're forced with a second ten thirty nine seconds left.
Some score updates. Steubenville up big over Buckeye Valley forty
seven to seven, Monroe Central twenty eight, Colonel Crawford twenty two,
Perkins forty nine Upper Sandusky ten. Second down and ten
for the Spartans. Lowry back to pass, steps up, now
(02:26:23):
throws it deep downfield and complete, but man took some punishment,
gets right back up though.
Speaker 2 (02:26:30):
That was one hard hit right there. That was That
was was Bailey Bailey with the completion the recession. Fine catch, Eric.
That was a great catch at.
Speaker 1 (02:26:42):
The twenty yard line. Nice big completion there of about
thirty yards and it's a Matthew Sondakra first down for
the Spartans.
Speaker 2 (02:26:52):
Spartans have the no give up mentality right now.
Speaker 1 (02:26:57):
Lowry Lowry pressured, He rolls out to his right, looks
now throws it up and off the receiver's hands.
Speaker 2 (02:27:06):
I think that was Niederhauser. Second down. Yeah, they're really
trying to use Niederhauser. He's been toting the rock a
little bit tonight and working. They just like him as
a receiver out there in that swing or in the flats,
and he works to try to get open whenever he can,
when especially when Lowry is scrambling.
Speaker 1 (02:27:27):
Other scores right now Mohawk thirty five, Edgerton seven, Vermilion thirty,
River Valley fourteen. In the third quarter, Ottawa Glandorf up
over Gallion thirteen to nothing, Centerberg fourteen Eastern twelve. Second
down and ten Lowry gets pressured, gets away, runs to
(02:27:50):
his left, throws into the end zone and overthrows McCants
who is by himself. That brings up third down.
Speaker 2 (02:27:58):
Yeah, McCants was in the end zone, wave in his
arm and Lowry tried to hit him right in the
corner but just really gun it, kind of gunned it
over his head and it was very not really catchable
at all. And now we ended a quarter here and
the Spartans are down twenty six zip. So that is
the end of the third period.
Speaker 1 (02:28:18):
We'll go ahead and take a break and come back
with the star of the fourth period. The score here
Previl Shawnee up over Pleasant twenty six to nothing. You're
listening to high school football in fourteen ninety Wmrin.

The Matthews Honda Acura High School Game of the Week.
Speaker 1 (02:29:38):
Back here at Prebel Shawnee completion up ahead to Cole Bailey.
There's a flag on the play. I think it's a
pass interference in the middle of the field. So Spartan's
again driving inside of Prebel Shawnees.
Speaker 2 (02:29:56):
End of the field. So a defensive holding on the arrows.
Speaker 1 (02:30:02):
Pleasant right now down twenty six to nothing, but trying
to get some points on the board here before the
end of this game.
Speaker 2 (02:30:11):
Yeah, real nice passer by Lowry on the outside Bailey.
He's a kind of nice one of those unsung heroes
on receptions this year as a wide receiver, he runs
nice routes. He got to the outside, he's catching the
ball and boy, I'll tell you he got rocked on
that one going across the middle, but he hung on.
(02:30:31):
So real tough kid there.
Speaker 1 (02:30:33):
First and goal for the Spartans. Shift to the left side,
tied end. Two receivers roll out to the right. Lowry
looking looking, throws it and incomplete intended for Brendan Ringer.
Speaker 2 (02:30:50):
Second down. Yeah, he Ringer ran out of room over
here on the sideline in the end zone and turned back,
which he should have and Lowry tried to catch him
when he turned, but the ball was kind of buying
before he kind of actually got turned around. So to
no avail there. Spartan's on the ten yard line. Second
(02:31:10):
and ten.
Speaker 1 (02:31:11):
Shelby up over Alida right now forty three to twenty one.
So it looks like Shelby well on their way to
moving on. Ontario did beat clear for twenty four to two.
So Ontario moves on to the second round. Second down
in goal, Lowry back to pass looking across the mill,
(02:31:32):
now rolls to his right looking, gets away from one defender.
Now throws it back and almost intercepted. A dangerous pass.
Always dangerous throwing it back across your body. But it
is incomplete third down. Yeah, he was scrambling, try to hit.
Speaker 2 (02:31:49):
Was that try to see who it was to Columber
on the pass back across his body. Didn't really have
a lot on it and really didn't matter. Defensive man
for the Arrows just about picked it off. Very very
(02:32:09):
tough play there.
Speaker 1 (02:32:11):
So it brings that third and goal and I got
to hand it to Lowry though, I mean, you don't
want to throw an air reception. But he's just trying
to find a way to make something happen.
Speaker 2 (02:32:20):
Yes he is. He's just the way to the way
to the game on his shoulders right now to try
to get something going for the spark action Lowry.
Speaker 1 (02:32:30):
It's incomplete as somebody got rock though. Somebody got rock
and either receiver he wasn't in a uniform either. No,
he's on the sideline. I think it's a photographer here
or she.
Speaker 2 (02:32:43):
I'm not sure. If they didn't have the camera up
to their eye. You know, that's a dangerous situation because
you're just paying attention and not paying attention, and uh,
those guys can come up on you very quickly. Looks
like they tried to. They got the person moved back
and there are they're okay, they're checking on looks like
(02:33:06):
you're okay, all right.
Speaker 1 (02:33:08):
Third, they're fourth down for the Spartans. Of course, prebl
Shawnee wants to be able to pitch a shutout, so
they're fired up right now too. Lowry comes back into.
Speaker 2 (02:33:18):
The huddle and now a time out taken by Pleasant.
Speaker 1 (02:33:27):
And Coach Westler just wants to have a talk about
it and coach, we've we've seen situations like this, playoff
games like this been a part of playoff games like this,
especially when you're you're playing a team that you don't know.
You kind of have an expectation of where your team's
(02:33:49):
at and then come into the game and it's really
opposite of what you even tried to prepare for.
Speaker 2 (02:33:58):
Well, and you don't know how much experience the other
team has as far as these kind of games. Uh,
there's nobody on Pleasants team that has played in a
in a playoff game, you know, to this magnitude of
playing a nine and nine and o team or nine
(02:34:18):
and one team. So I mean a little bit of
experience has to do with it, and also playing I
think playing at home has really helped them sometimes. You know,
not to make any excuses, but that's the first time
the pleasant's played after driving, you know, two and a
half hours. So, but they're fighting for their lives right now,
(02:34:42):
and I'm gonna say adventures, they're going to see a
lot of passing this this whole quarter.
Speaker 1 (02:34:47):
Fourth and goal for the Spartans. Lowry scanning the field.
Now he gets pressured, throws it out of bounds incomplete.
Speaker 2 (02:34:56):
The defensive backs they're really guarding everybody and have extra
guys back there, and they're able to put pressure on
Lowry with three guys well.
Speaker 1 (02:35:05):
And the reason you run a three to four defense
is because it can wreak havoc in the run game
because you have so many linebackers that second level that
can come up. But also in the passing game, if
you're not worried about blissing too much, you make it
very difficult for anybody to get open.
Speaker 2 (02:35:25):
Yeah, we're right now. The defensive backs in linebackers whoever
are in coverage are doing a great job and Lowry's
really having a hard time finding anybody.
Speaker 1 (02:35:36):
First and ten for the Arrows at their own ten
yard line, and probably some clock management here. Morton and
Shotgun hands it off to Lovely, big hole to the
left side, up ahead of the fifteen twenty and across
down at about the twenty three yard line. That's Matthew Sondaker,
(02:35:57):
first down down for Lane Lovely and the Arrows.
Speaker 2 (02:36:01):
Yeah, you're definitely gonna see some clock management here. The
coach of the Arrows wants to get this one into
books as quick as he can. Eleven h nine. I
think he probably thought that third quarter was never going
to end.
Speaker 1 (02:36:14):
Yeah, as fast as the first half went, that third
quarter came to a screeching halt.
Speaker 2 (02:36:21):
And assistant coaches standing by the the referee over here
on the side making sure they snapped the ball and
take as much time as they can off the clock.
First and ten.
Speaker 1 (02:36:36):
Lovely with the ball again tackled right away, brings up
a second down.
Speaker 2 (02:36:44):
And Preble shawnee.
Speaker 1 (02:36:47):
Can kind of I mean, we kind of knew coming
into the game that they could pass the ball, but
their strength seemed to be with run game, and looking
at the stats coming into this game, they had a
lot of guys that could run the ball, including their
quarter Morton. But blank and Ship and lovely we've seen
that tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:37:04):
Well they've utilized those guys very well. When they needed
some yards with the quarterback, they just took him up
the middle picking up yards. And the way he ran,
he leaned forward and he had a very good uh
speed when running up when he broke to the outside.
But here comes up Martin ahead. It looks like Blanket
Ship four is he was running that wildcat. Yeah, they
(02:37:29):
put him in that wildcat and he's coming. He kind
of looks like the other one. But he's a little
bit stock here and uh six three one eight five
nice size athlete there. He could play quarterback, he can
play receiver, running back. So they interchange these guys wherever
they need need to get yardage. And nine to forty
(02:37:49):
like like we're talking, they want to shorten this football
game and put this one in the books.
Speaker 1 (02:37:55):
Matthews Hondaker first down to the forty one yard line
of the era Preble Shawnee setting up again, taking their time. Morton,
I think it's Morton. I can't tell anymore. No, that's
Blanket Ship. So across the forty cuts it across to
the forty five and won't go down.
Speaker 2 (02:38:16):
Well, even this late in the game, he still looks
like he's running faster than anybody on pleasants defense. He
just very quick in the same way with the quarterback Morton,
they just have very quick feed. And he didn't even
look like he had anything to get, no, but he
picked up yard each. He picked up five yards on
(02:38:37):
pretty much nothing. Well.
Speaker 1 (02:38:39):
And one thing that I think that the errors have
done really well tonight in the run game. They they're
running back to or really whoever's running the ball is
looking at that cutback lane. And that's something that gets
lost sometimes you don't see enough players doing that. Second
down and five hand off to Lovely. He gets about
three and he's up third down. But I really believe
(02:39:02):
that that isn't a lost art anymore, looking at that
cutback lane because you're so dead set sometimes on just
getting to the hole and then running and just automatically
looking to the outside.
Speaker 2 (02:39:16):
Yeah. The other lost art is the spin move.
Speaker 10 (02:39:19):
Boy.
Speaker 2 (02:39:19):
Yeah, the running backs that you don't see a lot
of guys doing that. Remember went to a clinic and
coach Solis when he was coaching at Nebraska, and this
goes way back, was teaching that had running back drills
and I picked up a lot of those, and one
was a spin move and really paid dividends. And you
talked text to text Craig Hessen. But his brother Doug
(02:39:44):
was really very good at the spin move, so you know,
you really.
Speaker 1 (02:39:49):
He was also really good at the stiff arm and
really good at putting his head down and running you over.
Speaker 2 (02:39:53):
Yeah, but yeah, it's these these guys have their own
different moves, and as long as you're leaning for and
you're picking up yard each that's really all it matters.
Speaker 1 (02:40:04):
So a time out taken here, it looked like Preble
Shawnee just letting that time run down as far as
they can. Seven forty four left in the game and
Prevel Shawnee up twenty six to nothing. They have this
game in hand and we'll move on to the next
round of the playoffs. And it you know, with this
(02:40:27):
this break, it kind of gives us a chance to
just kind of look back on this season that we covered,
and it wasn't I would say, I don't want to
speak for you, coach, but it was definitely an unexpected
season from what we thought it might be for every
team in Marion County to what it ended up being
it was a lot tougher road for all the Marion
(02:40:48):
County teams this season.
Speaker 2 (02:40:50):
Yeah, there was a lot of up and downs. We
went from extreme heat to the point to the point where,
you know, we didn't even know, I mean, how the
teams could get through the games. It was so hot
in some cases. But then it went to we had
some rain, we had some ups and downs, we had fumbles,
(02:41:12):
we had of course, there's always injuries to go along
with some of these teams. And there goes Morton breaks
a huge run.
Speaker 1 (02:41:19):
Here he ran through It seemed like he ran through
all eleven defenders.
Speaker 2 (02:41:25):
That's Morton's twin brother, Blankenship. Was that blank Ship? Wow? Man, Yeah,
they're slipping him in there. I think they're messing with you.
Speaker 1 (02:41:34):
Now, they're messing with me, They're messing with the Spartans,
They're messing with everybody. So big first down there for
blanken Ship, and the arrows up ahead to the twenty
eight yard line of Pleasant and Blankenship just running like
a split in. Okay, So now we do have Morton
(02:41:56):
back a quarterback. First and ten and Morton hands it
off to Lovely. He cuts it to the right and
then goes straight ahead. The flag comes in, he does
get driven back and is stopped. Comes in the area
(02:42:18):
of where.
Speaker 2 (02:42:19):
A hold may be in It is a hole. Looks
like Chase van Ouston number six. Excuse me, was it six? Yeah?
I don't think it was Chase Always Hamper made to
tackle their number six.
Speaker 1 (02:42:40):
So the Spartans obviously not the way they wanted to
end their season, but again, a very resilient bunch. And
you have to be if you're a Spartan fan where
this program was a couple of years ago and where
it's at now. You've seen the growth and it hasn't
(02:43:01):
been easy at all, but you see that they are
taking steps and moving forward, no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (02:43:10):
So it'll be first and twenty. I believe.
Speaker 1 (02:43:16):
Hand off to Lovely gets up to about the thirty
five yard line. That's where he stopped, brings up second down.
Speaker 2 (02:43:24):
You know, like I think you would agree, your hat
goes off to the coaches and players, especially the players Lovely,
for you know, they're all the hard work that they've done,
not just from August, but from clear back in the winter.
The ones who didn't play winter sports, they got in
the weight room and they worked out for, you know,
(02:43:45):
to set their goals and get out here and put
themself on the line. There's a lot of kids probably
work walking in the halls would say, you know, I
wish you know I was out there, could be out there,
But these are the ones that you focused on tonight
and representing their community. He's win or lose, and you know,
it's one of those things. The farther you go, the
harder it hurts. And the Spartans made it to the
(02:44:06):
made it to the playoffs and they're playing a very
good against a very good team tonight, and uh, you know,
the coaches, it's a it's an exhausting job as a
coach because you really put everything into it, and their
assistant coaches and all the meetings they have, and I mean,
I'm tired thinking about all the stuff that they do
(02:44:27):
and especially in the offseason thinking about how can I
what can I do to to try to help these
kids be successful in this team. So our hat goes
off to them and we wish them the Spartans is,
since they're from Marion County, to the best of luck
even next year.
Speaker 1 (02:44:47):
Back to pass slip screen incomplete for the Arrows.
Speaker 2 (02:44:53):
So if there's any question about whether or not the
Arrows are going to sit on the lead. They tried
running a little squip strip slip screen there, but in
their defense, it was fourth and forever. They're just trying
to get something going there now with spartans, looks like
they're forcing them to punt the football fourth and seventeen.
(02:45:16):
So right now, Vermilion up over River Valley thirty seven
to twenty one in the fourth quarter, So, barring a
different kind of update, looks like River Valley will be
done on the season as well. Nice punt here, fair
caught inside the ten might be the best punt by
(02:45:37):
Schroeder all night long. That was beautiful. Well, he's getting
a little practice tonight and doing a pretty good job
at one punt. I think it was a second or
third punt just kind of rolled off of his foot
by that time. He had some nice height and Burns
fielded the ball. It looked like he fielded in side
(02:46:00):
the ten yard line, which is kind of something that
you don't really like to do. But the punter did
a nice job, did a nice job of kicking it
down there.
Speaker 1 (02:46:12):
Final score at grambw Heights Grambew Heights bets Elgin forty
one to six, so the Comets season has come to
an end as well. Four forty five left here, Lowry
back to pass, he's looking now, he scrambles and throws
it out and that was incomplete, intended for Latham McCants.
Speaker 2 (02:46:34):
Try to hit McCants on a scramble play there incomplete.
Speaker 1 (02:46:41):
It does look like our brethren over at Magic ninety
five nine will be moving on to the second round
as Mohawk wins forty nine to seven, so Kirk and
Jimmy will probably be We know they would at least
be able to do their game. We know UPPERSONI lost
and Carrie they were winning, weren't they. Carrie's down seventeen
(02:47:06):
to fourteen in the fourth quarter, so they're in a
tight one second and ten Lowry rolls to his left
now throws it out and just throws.
Speaker 2 (02:47:18):
It out of bounds incomplete.
Speaker 1 (02:47:22):
Some of the other scores Ottawa Glendorf in the fourth
quarter is still up over Gallyon thirteen to.
Speaker 2 (02:47:28):
Seven down the fourth quarter, and.
Speaker 1 (02:47:32):
Monroe Central thirty six, Colonel Crawford twenty two. Late last
time I checked, Shelby looked like they were comfortably ahead
forty one to twenty forty nine to twenty one over Elida,
So it looks like Shelby is going to be moving on.
Ontario did beat as I said before, beat Clear for
(02:47:56):
twenty four to two. So the top two teams in
the m o AC moving on to the next round.
Lowry back to pass, he slips in the end zone
and that's a safety. So and you just feel bad
(02:48:19):
for him. I mean, that's nothing, that was not his fault.
Guess when you think things couldn't get any worse and
it's now twenty eight to nothing, Shawnee over pleasant as
(02:48:41):
a coach, you know, I guess I would think back
that first playoff year, your first year coaching it kind
of I mean, it felt like this.
Speaker 2 (02:48:53):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:48:54):
The only difference is Elgin was undefeated and ranked second
in the state, and the ap pole goes to a
line of bath to play Liberty Center, who just got
in the week before with their victory. And you know,
I know, I know you. You didn't go in over confident.
You didn't you know, the team wasn't overconfident, but it
(02:49:16):
was got smacked in the mouth quite a few times
through that game.
Speaker 2 (02:49:19):
Thanks you reminded me. I had to. Hey, I had
to be there too. But as a coach, how do
you it's uh, I mean, what do you do? It's exhausting,
it's uh. You just work and work and work, and
you have all that electricity and all that adrenaline and
you're going on a few hours sleep a night, and
every waking moment you're trying to think of what what
can I tell the kids? Give each kid the lineman
(02:49:42):
some nuggets that they could be successful, and uh, kids respond.
The coaches work their tails off, and then you just
get beat and uh, you just have to you know,
it's a game. You just have to regroup. It's like life.
Not everything goes well all the time, and uh, you
just have to keep going, keep rolling. And that's the
(02:50:03):
great thing about sports and the like I say, a
lot of a lot of people would not take the
risk to go out and put themselves out there to
feel feel as bad as you feel after getting beat.
They would not do it. Sure, it's great, you know,
when you're winning, it feels great, but boy, there's a
(02:50:23):
price to pay in order for you to be successful
and really about anything. So I mean that's pretty much
you know how I you know how I can state it,
but boy, you get beat. If you have something invested
in the stock market, you care if it crashes. Yeah,
if you don't have anything invested in the team, then
(02:50:44):
you don't, really you don't. It doesn't really bother you.
So when you see these people that come out of
the game and they're not laughing, but they're not really
showing much emotion the fact that they got beat, you
know they really didn't invest much in it. But boy,
you can tell the ones that did it. And I
know those pleasant kids and coaches in the whole community
invest a lot in in their sports, and uh, and
(02:51:07):
it means, it means a lot. It absolutely does. First
down run.
Speaker 1 (02:51:15):
And this one by number eight rees Smith up ahead
for a first down or provo Shawn Eke did go
out of bounds, so that does stop the clock at.
Speaker 2 (02:51:27):
Four oh three.
Speaker 1 (02:51:29):
And I like the analogy you made their coach, because
it is different when you're invested in it. It's a
different feeling and the solace you can take when you
really have to after a loss. And maybe it takes
a day too week, who knows. It's just a game,
but boy, that game means so much when you're in it.
Speaker 2 (02:51:52):
Yeah, it's uh if you've never experienced going through a
ten to eleven week season, you know, especially with football,
and I've coached U basket. On basketball, I didn't known
enough suits, but uh, but uh, baseball it's uh, you know,
it's long, and especially football you watch in film and
(02:52:15):
late nights and you got to mow the grass. It's
eight o'clock with Uh. I had had an old Craftsman
lawnmower and had the headlights on it and yep, but boy,
I thought that I thought I did a good job.
But the next morning I was driving pulling out of
my driveway and looked at my yard and it had
streaks in it all over the place because I missed
places because it didn't do I couldn't see. But anyway,
(02:52:36):
that's what you do. You just you just invest a
lot of time and energy in in your teaching, your coaching,
and uh, and the kids know it too, and then
you expect the same thing out of them and your
assistant coaches.
Speaker 1 (02:52:48):
And you know, I think about all the head coaches
in Marion County.
Speaker 5 (02:52:53):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:52:54):
In most cases, I know Coach Williamson his kids are adults,
but uh, you look at Coach Winslow, and Elgin. His
kids are involved in the pro His daughter is training
to be an athletic trainer. She's a part of the team.
His younger son is out there with him. Coach Westler's
younger son is out here with him. You know, obviously
(02:53:15):
over at River Valley, Coach Waddle's son is playing on
the team.
Speaker 2 (02:53:20):
Uh. Coach Chapman's children are involved. It's something, you know.
Speaker 1 (02:53:24):
It is a lot of time for a coach to
to have to devote, but they always try to find
times to make sure that their families are involved some way, somehow.
Speaker 2 (02:53:33):
Yeah, because otherwise they don't get to see you too much.
And I remember, I remember your boys were around all
the time, all the time, and uh we go out
in the summer and turn the rain train around and
and uh do things out there when when we weren't
even practicing. And uh, that's just a I was. I
(02:53:54):
was a coach's son when I grew up in West Virginia,
and that's all I knew. And I always knew that
I wanted around sports my whole life, and and that's
what I did. I'm very very Uh, I guess the
word is grateful to be able to even do these
games tonight with you and and it's just just fun
to stay in touch with people and watch some of
(02:54:15):
these kids of kids that you've had playing and coaching,
and their kids are playing and and going around the
whole cycle that way. In Marion County, it's a small county.
Everybody knows each other, and we've got a lot going
for us up there.
Speaker 1 (02:54:30):
Absolutely, And I know the word you said, grateful. I
think of it all as being very blessed. Yes, I'll
tell you what. It's it's a long season for everybody involved.
For us, it's a long season and we're only calling games.
I can't I've forgotten how long it was when I
(02:54:50):
was a player and a coach. But it's it's such
a pleasure any of you that have listened to us
all year long. It's a pleasure for us to be
able to cover these players, these teams, these coaches. As
pleasant takes over inside their own ten yard line, minute
forty two left and Lowry hands the ball off to Niederhauser.
(02:55:15):
Penalty flags fly. I don't know how they could see
a hole and can't see anything in that mess.
Speaker 2 (02:55:21):
And you know, one of the things that I thought
about is on Wednesday nights when we do the and
Mark full manager Ralphie's didn't tell me to say this, Yeah,
but you know, we have the coaches in there and
usually a team a week and for them to give
up that time, an hour of their time to come
in and talk to us on the radio, and I
(02:55:43):
know we're grateful for that because we try to promote
their team and Ralphie's likes having us in there. But
that's a lot, you know, for those guys to do that.
And we want to thank all of the coaches that
have come in and have given their time and given
us some insight of how their how their kids are doing.
(02:56:04):
And I know they want to promote their kids in
their program and we just like to thank them for that.
Speaker 1 (02:56:09):
I cannot thank all of the county coaches enough. They
they give us more information than we probably deserve to
ever know, as Lowry tries to run the outside and
gets thrown out of bounds, that'll bring up second down.
You know, they are so forthcoming. They they take time
(02:56:34):
that they don't need to take with us. And and
I also you know, want to make sure I think
Scott as well, Scott Cameron who was down on the
sidelines for us all year. He's not here tonight, you
could not help but get one more dig in when
he's not here.
Speaker 2 (02:56:53):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 1 (02:56:54):
But you know, when Scott is out there and getting
interviews with the coaches, these are things that they do
not have to do and are We should be very
proud of the coaches that are representing our kids in
our in coaching these kids in Marion County because they
are they.
Speaker 2 (02:57:15):
Are high quality people.
Speaker 1 (02:57:19):
And we appreciate everything that they do, every single one
of them.
Speaker 2 (02:57:24):
As we get.
Speaker 1 (02:57:26):
Down under twenty seconds and that is the final score
as Preble Shawnee wins this game twenty eight to nothing
over Pleasant. Pleasant ends their season at five and six.
(02:57:48):
Preble Shawnee moves on at a record of ten and one.
And it's hard. It's really hard to leave. It's over coach.
Speaker 2 (02:58:02):
Yeah, we we went from the hot to the rainy
to now the cool, and uh it went fast, went
really fast. And uh, I know those kids at seniors
from the team, especially Pleasant, they're thinking where did it go? Man?
And I know, uh a, uh, some of those guys
that are playing basketball here, they'll probably give him a
(02:58:25):
week off and they go right back in it and
something else and uh, and we wish him the best
of luck down the road. And these younger kids, Uh,
they've got some big shoes to fill for the Spartans
and uh, they've got to go to work. They've got
to get him in the weight room and get them going.
But I think they've got the renning winning ways back
(02:58:47):
at Pleasant. I think CJ has done a good job.
He's got a great coaching staff, and they just got
to keep these kids going and get some get get
more kids out and uh, keep the positive.
Speaker 24 (02:58:58):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (02:58:58):
You know, it takes a village. Man takes a village
and the community really supports him.
Speaker 1 (02:59:05):
And a big congratulations to Prebel Shawnee. Very impressive when
they looked great. This is a team to pay attention
to in the playoffs. They are not going to be
an easy team to face. And it's been a real
pleasure to be able to come down here and watch
them play and everybody, all the fans that were out
(02:59:25):
here in front of us, and the people that interacted
what interacted with us here were a great pleasure to
be around. It kind of felt like being in Marion
County again.
Speaker 2 (02:59:34):
Yeah, there's no question it was. It really did. When
we were down at the by the concession stand in
the restroom, people were very nice and I did meet
at one I did meet an uncle from Preble Shawnee.
I think I forgot to tell you that. And he
was telling me that his family is in North Carolina,
and so he wanted to know our station and I
(02:59:56):
told him, you can, they can listen to it. So
he immediately got on his phone and on them are
fourteen ninety WMRA and iHeartRadio station. And they were really
excited because they got to hear their very their nephews.
They could have been the blanket ships because yeah, there
were two of them on there. Well, and I hope
we did them justice.
Speaker 1 (03:00:14):
But I'm not going to shy away from the fact
we are definitely very pro Marion County and very pro
pleasant tonight. But I do want to say it was
a great pleasure to watch this team play. Coach, it's
speaking of pleasures. It is every season of pleasure to
be able to do this with you, you know who
(03:00:34):
really know, I've really enjoyed it.
Speaker 2 (03:00:36):
And yeah, I mean I learned something every week about football,
about kids by watching. I mean, I really enjoy the
effort that these kids are given each and every week.
Speaker 1 (03:00:47):
Absolutely they do a great job. And you gotta love
high school sports and we absolutely love it. So that
is the end of this game. Preble Shawnee wins twenty
eight to nothing. We want to thank you for joining
us here tonight at Preble Shawnee. Next week we will
(03:01:09):
not have a game as Preble Shawnee will move on
and it would appear unless something we didn't get a
proper score update from River Valley or not, it would
appear that all of our Marion County teams are done.
But we do want to make sure you stick around
for the scoreboard show. Racelyin Grab and Alec Bikaelman will
recap the scor from the area playoff games plus preview
(03:01:32):
the college and pro games coming up this weekend. And
I want to remind everybody, even though coaches time is
done for the season, I've only got a few more
weeks and then I'll be going solo on WMRN. Our
first high school basketball broadcast will be November twenty sixth
as Calvary Christian Girls.
Speaker 2 (03:01:52):
Will visit Ridgdale.
Speaker 1 (03:01:54):
That will be a seven to ten tip off, So
basketball season only a few weeks away. I get a
breather for about two and a half weeks, three weeks,
and then I'm right.
Speaker 2 (03:02:06):
Back at it.
Speaker 1 (03:02:07):
So, honey, I'll see you for a little while on
the road again. That's right, That's right again. Final score
tonight at PREBL Shawnee. PREBL Sawnee wins twenty eight to nothing.
Speaker 2 (03:02:19):
Over pleasant.
Speaker 1 (03:02:19):
So for coach Cuzio here with me Raslin Graver back
at the studio. I'm Eric Moseley, and we want to
say so long. We hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Thank you for listening all season. It has been such
a pleasure. Good night everyone.
Speaker 39 (03:02:37):
Those showers and thunderstorm chances are going to remain with

the seventies to kick off the new week. Scattered thunderstorms
eighty one here this afternoon. More showers and thunderstorms tonight,
low seventy, Scattered thunderstorms four tomorrow with a high eighty four.
Numerous showers and thunderstorms on Sunday. Highs in the mid seventies. Richard,
