(00:00):
Join me in studio today. I'vegot a couple of representatives that are coming
in for the Latino Healthfare, Marthaand Evelyn joining us to talk a little
bit about what's happening. And ladies, thank you guys so much for coming
in. I appreciate it. Thankyou always for having us. I'll tell
you the Latino Healthfare. You guysstarted this, and you could do some
other events, but you guys startedthis with a goal. I think of
(00:20):
making sure that the right information getsto people who need it, so you're
reaching people on their level. Telleverybody about the healthfare when it is,
it's coming up this Sunday, andgive them all the details. Ladies,
go right ahead. Yeah, itwill be this Sunday, June twenty five,
between two thoroe pm and four thoroePM. And it's going to be
(00:40):
in the Merry School Gymnasium and theaddress is two fifty one Normay's three here
in Marion, yep. And it'sfull of all sorts of cool ideas.
Now, the idea is the admissionis free, door prizes happening, informational,
lots of services happen. And Iknow, Martha, there's just booth
(01:02):
after booth after booth for people toget the right health information. Talk a
little bit about that. Yes,thank you for having us again. Yes,
this is actually we start this backin twenty fifteen, like you said
it, you know, with theidea to help people who cannot reach or
don't have insurance or have the barrierof the language. We started. I
(01:23):
think the first year we only havelike six or eight participants and attendees.
We only have five people attending tothat. Every year we have increase on
population and vendors as well. Wehave played around a little bit. We
actually change days, we change hours, and finally we had a place where
(01:46):
the time and hour is working fora lot of people, the majority.
And I tell you it is veryexciting because this year we have about sixteen
to eighteen vendors organizations that are participatingand some of them I'm gonna name in
here if you're mine. Ohio Healthobviously is one of our sponsors. CPAAA,
(02:07):
which is the idea for Children's UMImpact with Lieutenant at Brown Cancer Collision
of North Central Ohio um Naturalist inPark District. It was a big head
last year. After Yes, itwas great. The kids loved Adam h
(02:27):
Behavioral Concepts of Ohio Week, whichis always great for all those you know,
ladies who are in need. UMgreat, great um participation there and
a lot of information y MCA.They always have help us and most of
the times they give us a msix months membership for six months. It
(02:51):
is excited. Yes, it's oneof the door practices UM Ohio hell mamograph
arrow point this arrow point. Ihave to point that it has helped us
tremendously because we have had a lotof people that need it and they are
stationed in Columbus and they actually travelhere for every emergency we have had and
(03:15):
they have helped us, whether it'smorning nine or even in they have been
a tremendous help for that community. And a lot of people don't not recognize
that. Grace Clinic joined us lastyear and has been a success for all
those people who have no insurance, which they is. I think they open
on Monday evenings. Yes, alasyou Center for Cancer Health Equality Ohio Geyston
(03:39):
is the first time participating. Ihave to name this. My daughter just
graduated from college and she actually joinedthem and she is going to be working
with them to this coming Sunday whichis fantastic. They want recovery and we
are still waiting for a couple ofmore participants for these years. So yeah,
(04:00):
it sounds very exciting. Absolutely. So you go around from each booth
and you get the information, youget the conversations. What's nicest, You've
done it in a way to connectand you've got so many different I mean
everything from behavioral health to services withwomen and children to I mean, you
really are covering the whole gamut. And of course Ohio Health and Martha you
(04:20):
work there. It allows everyone toget connected. And like you said,
the language barrier is a thing, and you're you're fixing that problem tremendously.
I mean, Ohio Health have reallyhelp us, you know, to have
the barrier so to speak, witha Latino community, you know, with
a barrier language. And they havereally given us a silber players if you
(04:46):
if you will, because they werethe first one to believe in us and
help us to start all this.Yeah, I get it. I get
of course, with marrying public healthand some of the others, you have
an opportunity I think even of gettingfolks hooked up with vaccinations and everything like
that too. Talk a little bitmore about about that. Yeah, I
also like to mention that adam ageUM is helping us with this translator system
(05:12):
that we can use from our ownphone, so we can um it.
We don't have a lot of Imean, well, we'll have a lot
of bilingual members of community. Theyare going to be there to help,
but we also can use this UMtranslator up the adam age provide for us
UM on this event and any otherthings that we need for our community.
(05:38):
The language barriers it is UM.It is a barrier for for the people.
Uh So, yeah, we wewe are seeing a lot of new
families coming from you know, othercountries that it's not just from Mexico.
You know, we have we havean increased number of families from Honduras,
(06:00):
Guatemala, um and and we weare here because you know, we were
those people, you know, wewere new in our community. UM.
We were we had the opportunity tolearn the language. But we want to
help these people to feel welcome,to let them know that there is help,
to let them know that they areopportunities for them to to also take
(06:25):
care not just you know, gettinga job and work and work. Now
take the opportunity to take care ofthemselves, you know, with the assessment,
diabetes assessment, with their blood pressure, with the cholleester always you know,
UM their kids to be UM updatedon their vaccines because you know those
kids are going to be looking forschools and school it's a requirement in the
(06:47):
school to have you know your vaccinesor updated. So it is UM a
way for them to connect to thecommunity and to learn more about those organizations
they are there to help well. And I love the timing. I think
that kind of fits because if,like you were saying, the kids are
(07:08):
getting ready go to school, they'vegot to be up to date on their
vaccinations. I have to have everythinggoing, so it kind of fits perfectly
time wise to be able to getthat done before school starts, when we
get to when we get to August. So no, I mean, I
just think it's a fantastic opportunity. And you've got a range of door prizes,
so I imagine all of your vendorsare helping out with door prizes.
Talk a little bit about some ofthat. Yes, Actually one of the
(07:30):
requirements is obviously all this is forfree, and you know, the participation
and actually is volunteer. But wekindly ask most of the organizations to bring
a price. So everybody who comesin register at the door put their name
in, and then we separated intwo categories, children and adults, so
(07:50):
you know, they all have anequal opportunity. Again we have learned throughout
the time. And then also wesomething we started last year actually is very
exciting to us because we start anew thing. It's called Becca, which
is a scholarship for a Latino thesender of a kid who is the sender
(08:15):
of a Latino. And so lastyear we have our first two winners.
Each kid is a women, agirl, and a boy, and each
kid received a thousand dollars. Andthis year we already have selected the winners
too, and actually, um veryexcited and kind of very blessed this year
(08:35):
because we again have two winners, but somebody we had an anonymous donor to
donate an extra thousand dollars, sowe can actually award three scholarships this year.
So it was great and we areactually not only the prizes gonna going
to be given at that time andcall the names, but we're actually gonna
(08:56):
award those two kids. And weare actually just talking about how we're going
to bring the winners from last yearto actually be there and give handle the
handle those new scholarsholipis that now areyou guys handling the scholarship yourself or are
you working like to the community foundationor how are you guys doing that?
(09:18):
Yeah, we do apply for agrant through the Marian Community Foundation, UM,
and we're blessed that they are ableto support this Latino herper and also
an addition to to have UM alittle bit of the help to to be
able to provide this scholarship to theto the Hispanic descendants students. UM,
(09:43):
they're seniors and also undergraduate students.M. They apply and then we have
our own committee you know Martin Ianother one who who's in charge of selecting
the students. So we have ourown community community committee. And so they
were they were They met last weekand they went through the applications, they
(10:07):
read them. They took the timeto do that and they were able to
select the winners. And UM,like Martha said, you know, we
were blessed to have this extra donationto be able to award another student to
help him with you know, hisI mean education, any any any help
(10:31):
helps I think that's exciting. Anythingelse you guys want to add today about
the Latino healthfare coming up on Junethe twenty five, two thirty to four
thirty at Saint Mary's Gymnasium, twofifty one North Main Street. Admission is
free, door prizes, lots ofgreat information. Anything else we messed today?
