Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, joining me on the phone today, I've got
Guy and Linda Schlichting from the First Presbyterian Church here
in Marion, and they are putting together the Veterans Concert
honoring those who served, coming up on Sunday, November third,
at four o'clock at the First Presbyterian Church, one forty
three South Prospect Street here in Marion. Guys, welcome to
(00:20):
the show. How you doing today?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Hey, doing good? Thanks for having us again.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Thank you, You're wonderful.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
You're welcome. It is. It is my pleasure having you
guys on. So tell us all about the Veterans Concert
that's coming up on November third.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Okay, well, yeah, Sunday, November third, at four o'clock at
our church, the First Presbyterian Church. That's the big Stone
Church downtown Marion, right by the Big City parking lot
at the corner of Church and Prospect Street. And we
do this every year. This is our fourteenth annual and
we always have musical entertainment. This year it's going to
(00:57):
be the Harding High School Choir. Actually buy my friend
Jamie Rawlins, and I think it's going to be like
seventy voices, Strong Giver or tape so that should be
very entertaining. She has some nice music prepared for us
our MC this year. Usually we have Jeff Ruth, but
he couldn't make it this year, so we have Davy
(01:18):
Jones from the be Cyrus radio station. He's going to
take up that duty and they met him just the
other day. He's quite a nice guy. And we have
Doug Brown. He's the sons of Ambeth. He's like the
state level guy and he comes every year and does
a nice presentation. And what we do is we collect
(01:42):
some donations of items that the veterans might need at
their the veterans colemans and dust and wonder. We have
the list here.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Yeah, I have a list of some of them really
important things that they would like, you know, shirts, sweatshirts,
sweatpants and Jackison's but they like large to five ex
l and of course personal hygiene items like polyodent, accident
dentry cleaner, after shape issues, disposable razors, deodorant, shampoos, you
(02:15):
can get mouthwashed, but they like that to be alcohol free,
hair stoomers, electric razors, batteries of all sizes, you know,
jumbo playing cards and had phones of blue spooths and
wheelchair bags. We forget about that. And one of the
things they're special requesting this year is for Lego kits
(02:35):
and Lincoln lots and I thought that was very interesting.
And you know, they'd like to have board games too,
and cross supplies because it gets a little boring up there,
you know.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah, we never thought of that. In the issues. They
always said for the personal hygiene stuff like toothbrush and stuff.
But yeah, they guys and gals that are in the
Sandusky Home they I'm sure they want to play some
games and the boredom a little.
Speaker 3 (03:00):
Bites really quickly too.
Speaker 2 (03:03):
Yeah, so that's a good interior.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
Remember, And I was gonna remind guy to say on
concert day this.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Clock change, oh clock change day, yep, remember, oh.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Yeah, absolutely, yeah, before you go to bed on Saturday,
November two, you've got to drop your clocks back an hour.
So you're right, that's correct. It's four o'clock though on Sunday,
November third, So yeah, make sure hot on that good
good point.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:28):
So those are some of the most requested items that
I gave you. You can do suspenders and belts thirty
sixth and larger, and they're keep in mind they're women
up there too, so you know, pajamas and robes and
things of those sorts as well.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
A couple of years ago, slippers was the big item
that they wanted. Yeah, and it says that they would
like large and wide sized slippers. So if if you
could our listeners here, maybe bring a donation of some
of these items. One of these items, we'll have a
shopping cart in the back of the church and just
drove them in there and then we will make sure
(04:06):
that they get up to Sandusky. And if you.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Can't be there, just go to the back of the
church and ring the bell and tell them that you're
going to donate one.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Of these and we'll take those two.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Since we'd like to get as much as we can
for our vetrends.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
And if you would rather donate cat, I think the
thing is to make it out to our church and
in the memo they care of the Veteran's home and
we'll make sure that much gets to them.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
I love that. That's great stuff. Now, Linda, you also
have refreshments put together. You've got some thank yous there.
Talk a little bit about that.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
Kingston of Marion always sponsors our sandwiches, so we want
to thank them since they're doing that again this year.
So we'll have ham and cheese sandwiches, and then the
Daughters of the American Revolution. They help us with our
dessert items such as cookies and punch, and they we
also come in and help us clean up and serve
(05:03):
and those types, those types of things. So we want
to thank Kingston Marian and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Yes,
the quilters are bringing in their quilt so the church
will be decorated with quilts and pillowcases and they work
on those all year long. I don't know if you've
ever been in the church to see that when it's
(05:25):
totally decked out, but there are quilts hanging off the
balcony and in the reception area, and there's pillowcases and
they're all handmade and they are gorgeous.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
It's gorgeous.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
So we want to change thanks the quilters and the
Presbyterian Church ladies.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
For helping out with all of these and all those
quilts will go up to the Veteran's home.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
And that's amazing. That's amazing. If you'd like to go
the Veterans concert honoring those who served is Sunday, November
three at four o'clock. Remember the night before we're going
to changing our clock, so be aware of that. At
the First Presbyterian Church one forty three South Prospect Street
in Marrying. You can get details by checking out the
First Presbyterian Church's website. It is one presby prsby dot org,
(06:16):
the number one presby dot org and you get some
details there. But we certainly would love to see you
coming up on Sunday, November third at four o'clock for
this event. And of course they will be giving recognition
to all the veterans that are attending, so make sure
that they realize that you're coming out. But what a
great event, And thank you guys so much for doing
(06:38):
this for the community. I know it's it's obviously a
labor of love, but thank you guys for doing that.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
Well. We appreciate it. That little christ history. This Sindsky
Home was started in eighteen eighty six because they the
state of Ohio realized they needed a place for veterans
to help take of them. So it is staffed. I
think they have over four hundred beds. They have a
doctor on staff that oversees another group of doctors that
(07:11):
are contracted there. They it's a very nice health place
if you've ever been there, and I love that their
motto is serving those who serve, and I'm very appreciative
that Ohio is one of the first places to ever
realize there is a need for veterans after coming home.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
That's just how we bought guys.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Are you got it? Linda Guy? Thank you guys so
much for your time, and once again, thank you for
doing the event and hopefully we'll get a lot of
people up there on Sunday, November third, at four
