Ty Williams stipped by to talk about all of the fun activities and entertainment coming to the Waldo Summer Fest July 14th & 15th

Joining me today is ty Williams.Tye is here representing the Waldo Summer Fest,
which is happening this Friday and Saturdayand tie. It looks like it's
going to be a pretty exciting weekend, isn't it. It sure will be.
We've got quite a quite a setof events for everybody to come out
and enjoy this weekend. So let'stalk just a little bit about the Summer

(00:23):
Fest and a little bit of thehistory. Didn't it kind of start as
the Fireman's Festival years ago? Yes, it did. Myself and several other
village members got together and decided wewanted to bring it back and try to
try to come up with something toto help out with the community. We
created the Waldo Community Vetterment Committee andwent from there and it really it really

took off. We had we hada lot of good support from the community.
So one thing I can remember fromthe Fireman's Festival and then last year
I was there at the Summer Festfor a little while. It really seems
to just drive I have a reallygood amount of people into Waldo. Anybody
that's grown up in Mary knows Mary. It's not a huge town, but

it's it's really pretty vibrant during thattime. It is it is, and
I really like to have all thoseadditional people come into town and tried to
experience what Waldo has to offer.We're known as as the blowney capital there,
so that that's great, but noteverybody knows that we've got a great
pizza shop, We've got Pettybones downthe road. Waldo is such a great

little community. I grew up there. It's you know, you couldn't find
a better little community if you triedto be honest with you. So we
want to try to open everybody's eyesto see what Waldo has to offer.
Awesome. So let's talk about Friday. What do you have going on Friday?
When does everything kind of get started? Everything really kind of starts around

(01:49):
four. It's kind of a youknow, we got food and craft venders
starting at four. We've got akid zone that's going to start up about
five. We understand that that parentsare still working, they're not going to
want to get home and come straightin with their you know, grab their
kids and come in. So it'sit's kind of a I'm gonna call it
a slow start really, and Imight be mistaken by saying that, but
uh, that'll start around five.We got Bingo and chuckle luck at five

o'clock. We also have in acommunity tent. The community tent's going to
be on the main dragon in themiddle of town. And this year,
uh Dan Harriet's going to be outthere starting at five h six pm.
We've got a Touch of Truck Andand last year we had a magic show
and that went over huge. Everybodyloved it. Uh, So we we've
got got a magic show back again. And for the second year in a

(02:36):
row again we've got the pizza eatingcontest and that was if you'd have been
there, there wasn't every It wasstanding room only around these kids eating pizza
and it was a lot of fun. It was r Valley and Pleasant football
teams going, oh boy, that'salways that's always fun on the football field.
With pizza, it's probably even betterit is. And and last year

(02:57):
Pleasant one and uh and we madea donation and the both both football teams
uh for for coming out and participating. There was a you know one you
know, the winner got a littlebit more, but uh, it just
goes back to the program and it'sjust it's just a lot of fun.
It really is. So we've we'vegot that again this year. And if
you don't mind me talking about kids, the kids like to hear their name
on this stuff and and uh andthen also I'm sure they're all friends.

(03:21):
They can probably start talking a littlebit of trash. Yeah. Uh.
So for the RV Pizza team,we've got Jared Sloan who is the captain.
We've got Ethan Lyon, We've gotBrady Cookson, Colton Millizer, and
Carter Logan. Uh. And Iknow a couple of those kids there,
and and they're they're gonna they're gonnabring their aggain. There's some there's some

eaters in there. They can putit down. Yeah. And then for
pleasant we've got Owen Lowry. Uh. They didn't name him as a captain,
but I kind of named him asa captain because I know the kid
a little bit. Uh and he'sjust a little fella yea. And I'll
tell you what I've seen him eat. And that kid can eat as well.
So uh, we got Owen asa captain. We got Luke flinching

(04:04):
Ball flinch Ballina flunch Ball. Iapologize Luke, Uh, Brady Henry,
Elijah Miley and Bob Cox and uhand those are those are the kids are
gonna go at it, and uh, if it's anything like last year,
it's gonna be a lot of funto watch him. I I loved it
last year and the crowd was there, they were cheering. It was and

I can't believe that there was onekid in particular. I don't even remember
which team he was on, butI he probably went around the back of
the of the pizza shop there andpuked. Oh yeah, he looked really
bad. But so who's supplying thepizza. Uh, they'll be Belly Bustley
Pizza. Yes, very nice andit's really and really good pizza. And

(04:46):
again, like I, like Isaid before, I want people to come
in to to the Waldo community andexperience what the pizza shop there. Not
a lot of people know that.You know, they're there and they're and
they're great people and they they puton a really good Uh it's it's really
really good. So the the pizzaeating contest is is that kind of the

(05:06):
highlight of Friday or is there somethingelse after? Well, we've got hard
Drive playing on on the main stageat eight pm, and hard Drive always
brings a good friturday. They canthey can play some music. I've I've
followed them for several years, souh yeah, it's gonna be it's gonna
be a good time. So onSaturday, that's where they kind of everybody

(05:30):
gets a full day of the event. And last year, I know,
Saturday ended up real rainy in themorning, in the afternoon, then it
got a lot better as the daywent on. But I was there in
the morning and early afternoon and itreally didn't seem to affect the crowd too
much. You know what, itdidn't. Uh last year we had the
five k in the morning and andI'm not a runner, so I did

(05:53):
not participate, but um they putthat five k on and they had a
really really great turnout. It's fora great cause, um so. Uh.
But they also had a car showand and people with with these the
car show guys and gals, theydon't like to come out in the rain.

(06:13):
But it rained and they still hadand I want to say, ninety
five or ninety six cars in therainy and and so that shows you what
kind of what kind of participation andwhat what kind of in the rain.
It is crazy, so um soI expect if the weather is going to
hold out right now it looks likeit's going to we should have probably double

(06:33):
or triple that for for our carshow, which that is great. That's
put on by Waldo Tire there withMark Guthrie and uh he does a really
great job with with that and aswell as our festival. He's on our
our committee. Um so then itthat's uh. We've also got a breakfast
in the morning. We didn't wedidn't have a breakfast, an official breakfast

(06:54):
last year, so we've got thatthis year as well. The uh Waldo
Tire Cruise in I just covered thatanywhere between eight and nine. I think
it is the official sign up.But if you want to, you want
to get there early, you canget some breakfast and everybody will be happy.
We got the cornhole tournament happening againthis year. Last year, I
can't remember how many teams we had, but we had a phenomenal term tournament

(07:17):
with the initial year. Yeah andnow when we had a great time there,
Uh, I couldn't tell you whowant it, though I apologize I
was, I was quite busy atthat time. The kids zone will open
around eleven. We've got Bingo isgonna be starting from from two PM on.
Uh. They're they're going to sharethe spot with the Cornhole people.

(07:40):
Just because of the weather last year, we had to make some last second
arrangements. So um, so that'llprobably happen right after two pms are guestimated
start there. Uh, and thenthat'll that'll that'll go all day long.
And then we've got rock Shop.The Delaware Music Academy is going to be
on the on the community stage.Are in the center of town again and

(08:03):
they put on a great show lastyear. And and another thing that we
had last year for the first timewas the Amazing Giants. They're stilt walkers.
Oh, and let me tell yousomething, those those stilt walkers were
absolutely phenomenal. I loved them andand I didn't give them an open check
to bring them back, but bygod, I wanted them back. I
really did so they we had somany great comments on that. And then

(08:26):
uh, around three thirty pm registration. Around three we have the Kiddie Tractor
poll. Oh, it's a pedaltractor. And I'll tell you what.
We have kids lined up. Thisis the third year for it, and
we have we have a phenomenal turnoutfor that as well. The kids and
their parents just loved that. Soum, that will be uh, that
will be the main thing. Ohand we do have a homemade pie auction

(08:50):
again this year that that made alot of money for us last year for
um, for the pie auction.And then uh, Saturday, we've got
for entertainment, We've got Craig Ridgewayat eleven thirty, we got Jerry Morgan
at twelve thirty, we got ChadClark who has just put out a you
know, he just went down toNashville and put out his album there.

(09:13):
And then eight pm we got lefta Center and I always a row.
Everybody loves LC and we do aswell. We we love having them for
our festival and so that that's kindof the quick and quick and down and
dirty on on our lineup there.Um, so we we've got a great,
great show, a great weekend planfor us for everybody. So um,

(09:37):
I'm excited. It's been a weput a lot of hard work in
for it, and every year theweather just rather it's hotter, and yeah,
just holy cow. Yeah, we'vehad some really really hot hot days
there and uh, and then therain obviously has always put a damper on

(09:58):
us. But we are under at for our for our beer garden,
in our in our stage, forour our entertainment, So it really it
will not make a bit of differenceunless we've got Tornado who's coming through,
to be honest with you, sowe'll we'll be good as far as that
goes. So don't let that rainrain get you get put a damper on
your weekend. We will, wewill still have entertainment. Awesome. Well,

(10:22):
I really think everybody needs to getdown to Waldo this weekend. Everything
gets kicked off Friday at four o'clockand then Saturday pretty much first thing in
the morning, eighty five. Yeah, I mean, especially if you're a
runner, come on down and jumpingat five k um. It's it's a
it's a really good, uh,really good deal. And you know you
can kick start your weekend pretty prettywith pretty good with an early morning run.

(10:46):
Absolutely, so I've been told,yeah, I've never experienced it,
but yeah, I got to.It's it's going to be a great event,
the Waldo Summerfest. And guys alsothat that band line up, those
performers, those are some of thebest bands in this area, performers in
this area. So if you wantto see some really good entertainment and see
it for free, is free.That's the great thing. Yeah, come

on down this Saturday and Friday forthe Waldo Summerfest. Thanks Ty for coming
