Speaker 1 (00:00):
Joining me in studio today is the cast of Nonsense
to the second Coming could be at the Marion Palace
Theater April eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth. Cast say hello, Hello.
We have everyone, not everyone, but close to everyone here
in studio today, and we're going to talk a little
bit about the show. But first let's get started with

(00:20):
Kirk Dettwiler, the executive director of the Maryon Palace Theater. Kirk,
how are you mine?

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Oh my gosh, I'm good. How are you, Paul James?

Speaker 1 (00:27):
I am wonderful. I'm so glad that you guys are in. Kirk,
you got a lot of things going on. We'll talk
about that later. But Nonsense coming up. Why don't you
talk about the show? Introduce who all you have here
in studio with us today.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Well, first of all, we're very excited to put the
show on. This show was originally scheduled for I think
March or April of twenty twenty. And remember what happened then,
Like the whole season at the theater was messed up,
and this was like one of the only shows that
wasn't rebooked. And Mark, our financial manager who's directing the show,

(01:03):
and I were thinking putting together last year, I'm like,
you know, we got to kind of get a small
cast musical for like the spring play, and then we
never did Nonsense too, so let's let's resurrect that. And
he got four out of the five originally cast nuns
in this particular show, so everybody's real excited to do it.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
This is cool. Why don't you introduce your cast and
we'll talk a little bit about the show.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Well, I'm not sure what their nun and names are,
so I'll let them introduce that. We have leam Menzi, who's.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Playing Hubert, sister Hubert.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Sister Hubert, Kelly cress Up sister Amnesia. Ah, yes, and
I almost said Morgan Freeman.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Morgan Morgan.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
She's our marketing manager, but she's well known on the
stage of the Palace Stater. You are playing sister Robert
a yes, So we'll be playing April eleventh and twelfth
at seven thirty and then at two o'clock matinee on
April thirteenth.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
So what is the difference in Nonsense to the second
Coming versus the original Nonsense?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
It's the sequel, Okay, we just continue, but yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
The the you know, the little Sisters of Hoboken and
new Adventures and new antics, and I'll let them.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Let them. I haven't seen it yet, so as I
don't really know.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
Absolutely talk about talk about your your part, and a
little bit about the show.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
Sure. So I am sister Hubert. I'm number two in
command under our Reverend mother, and I like to keep
her in line, even though she's supposed to keep all
of us in line. My character is a little bit
of a curmudgeon. She is annoyed by everybody and all
the things, and likes to make sure that we keep
the pacing pacing moving right along and don't sit too
long on any of it. So I would say, like

(02:43):
Kirk said, that this is the sequel. However, it's just
a continuation of what happened, So we kind of recap.
If you missed Nonsense one, it's okay to come to
Nonsense two because we recap it at the beginning and
let you know what happened, and then we pick right
up from where that story ends and kind of continue
with the story.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
So I love it. Leah, what's your favorite part of
this show? Without really ruining anything for anyone, what's your
favorite part?

Speaker 4 (03:07):
So probably oh Man probably the Classic Queens. I mean,
that's one of the songs I'm in. There's there's a
lot of really good funny bits, but I'm definitely out
of character personally for the Classic Queens.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
So I would say that's awesome.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
I would say that one for me.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Yeah, okay, fantastic. Well let's move over Callie. Talk about
your your part and a little bit about the show
in your perspective.

Speaker 5 (03:30):
Well, I play sister Amnesia, and I am quite opposite
of Sister Hubert. If you can't tell by the name,
I don't know much. I am that person who just
kind of goes with the flow because she has no
idea what's going on or what the right thing is
to do. Okay, but it's quite fun to play. I

(03:52):
just get to be silly on stage and it's just
been a great experience.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
So so talk about Calli versus Callie's character and how
those are different and kind of the stretch that you
have to do in order to play in character.

Speaker 5 (04:06):
Ooh, Callie is very uh need to know how to
do it, when to do it. Yeah, and Amnesia is not.
She is very She just does whatever she wants.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
But yeah, established how she got Amnesia Oh, yes, she
got amnesia.

Speaker 5 (04:23):
A crucifix fell on her head. Her real name is
Sister Mary Paul. But she doesn't respond to that.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
So yeah, yeah, but sister Amnesia. See, she certainly does.

Speaker 6 (04:34):
No.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
That's awesome. And believe me, those are some heavy crosses.
So I I get that that would probably knock a
person out too. I get that, Morgan. Talk a little
bit about your character in the show a little bit.

Speaker 7 (04:45):
Yeah, So Sister robert Anne is described in the script
as a street wise nun from Brooklyn. She has a
bit of a troubled past where she's maybe hanging in
bars and you know, well, I don't know, okay, okay, okay,
but she's very fun. I feel like she's almost like
gives middle child vibes of she just wants to kind

(05:07):
of be in the spotlight a little bit, but she's
kind of in the middle of everybody. She is very,
very fun, very funny. It's just been a great time.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
And you have two more little sisters of Hoboken in
the show. Correct, we do. Leah's over here laughing. Tell
me about Julia's part, and talk a little bit about
Julia and her part. So I know, so.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
Julia's reverend Mother. She is chief in charge, or so
she likes to think.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Yeah, which fits her.

Speaker 4 (05:32):
I kind of put her in her place often just
because that's just kind of what Hubert does. But yeah,
she's quite the character. She she's kind of like the
narrator as well, so she keeps the story rolling. She
lets you know who we all are. She introduces us,
she introduces the previous story. Actually that's me, I do that,
don't I?

Speaker 6 (05:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (05:51):
There, So, yeah, that's that's Reverend Mother. She just kind
of is the one who holds it all together.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
That's cool. And Morgan, who is our other sister of Hoboken.

Speaker 7 (06:01):
Yes, sister Leo is played by Sammy K.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
Murgy.

Speaker 7 (06:04):
So she is the newest noun, the youngest nun, the novice, okay,
and she just kind of has dreams of being a ballerina.
But Julia's character is shooting that down at every turn.
So she has a number in this show that I
won't tell you what she does. But her dreams of
being a ballerina are not happening, so she's come up
with another plan.

Speaker 1 (06:23):
I love it. I see in the description that it's
called an uproarious blend of music. Mistress and divine comedy
that promises an evening of heavenly humor. I like that
a lot of Mark, did you write that it's in it?
It was right here, right next to your name. I
just figured that you're the one that wrote that. That's
a good piece. So no, so good stuff that is coming.

(06:45):
Nonsense to the second coming April eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth
at the historic Marion Palace Theater. Tickets are on sale
now and uh and Morgan, you've got an interesting deal
for adults. Tickets are twenty nine and forty two and
the forty two dollars ticket is premium seating that gets
you a charcuterie board some other things. Talk for a
minute about the ticketing because you have a special ticket

(07:05):
for kids as well.

Speaker 7 (07:07):
Yeah, so we have two special prices that we're offering
for students. We're having a sixteen dollars price. Mark, who
is our director, works with the Marion City Schools singers,
and so we thought that his students might love an
opportunity to come support him as he supported them for
many years. So we are offering a sixteen dollars student price.
You do have to call or stop into the box office.

Speaker 2 (07:28):
To get that.

Speaker 7 (07:28):
It is not available online, and we are also offering
a discount on our regular twenty nine dollars general admission ticket.
If you go online or call the box office and
use the code word amnesia, you can get five dollars
off of that ticket and snag it for twenty.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Four I forgot, oh, amnesia, I forgot it for a second.

Speaker 5 (07:46):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
No, yeah, I forgot.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
There was my dose of humor with that CALLI tell
everybody why you think they should come to the show.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
I mean, you should come to the show if you
want to have a good laugh time. It's a very
interactive show. It's not like your typical musical where they
don't they you know, the people on stage pretend you're
not there. No, we are very interactive with the audience.
It's going to be a very different experience, and it's
going to be a whole lot of fun.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
I love it. Mark doesn't want to talk on the radio,
but I really really want Mark to tell us how
much fun he's having with this cast of the Little
Sisters of Hoboken. So tell us how much fun you're
having doing this.

Speaker 6 (08:29):
It's it's it's been great to direct these five women
working with Jamie Rowlins is a vocal director. She does
most of our in house productions at the Palace Theater
Rick R box office person. He's conducting her orchestra pit.
Kathy Hill is playing our piano. Great piano player. For me,

(08:51):
it's been a really good experience to get to know
these ladies. I work with one of them. One of
them is has a student with the Harding Singers, so
I've got to know her over the couple of years.
And this is just in a different format to really
see a different personality come out of out of Leah So.

(09:14):
And then I met Calli during Rent. I helped, you know, Dustin,
you know, just give some ideas and stuff like that
for Rent. And it's been really cool to see her
how the characters that she played for Rent versus.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Now, Oh yeah, just different, different, a great time.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
Yeah, it's uh.

Speaker 6 (09:34):
These these these gals have been wonderful and I'm excited
to put this on the stage. We got to be
on the stage for the first time last night and
it just kind of hit me as the director of like, Okay,
we're almost there. We're in the home stretch of this show.
So it's it's going to be exciting, and I hope
that everybody can come out and support these gals and
support the Marion Palace Theater.

Speaker 1 (09:55):
Very well, said April eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth at the
Marion Palace Theater. It is none since too the second Coming,
But Kirk, you've got a number of shows happening before that,
including one on Friday night that is selling and if
people want to get tickets, they need to get tickets
to come see and have a night of Jimmy Buffett time.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
Yes, we got a Jimmy Buffett tribute show.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
It's called Changes in Latitudes, so it to be Friday night,
March twenty eighth. It is selling fast, but we do
have some tickets available. I would not wait to buy
at the door because it may be sold out by them,
because you know, Jimmy Buffett is Jimmy Buffett. Yeah, there
are a lot of secret parrot heads in mary in Ohio.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
I know there are. And there'll be some specials going on,
he said, some.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Really neat creative things. Yeah, mentioned that on public radio.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Nope, it's all fun. It's all fun. We're looking forward
to that. We're going to be at that show on
Friday night. I hope you can too. Details for all
of these shows at Marionpalace dot org. And then you're
going for baroque on Saturday, huh, going for broke.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Yes, we got the Central Ohio Symphony and Ensemble from them.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
They have a new director, Ben Coy.

Speaker 3 (10:58):
He's been very cooperate and Al and Ingrid may sponsor
these two classical concerts per year.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
So this is go for Baroke three.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
If you've seen one or two, you haven't seen three
because there's a lot of baroque music out there.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Yeah, and it's Saturday afternoon at three if you're interested
in that Shovel City improv the following Saturday at seven
thirty always a good time.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Yeah, And we have a lot coming up in May.
We've got the first weekend and maybe we've got Lone
Star the country band. We've got our own Ryan Ratlef
doing his own show back in the Habits, and Sarah
Grodi is also doing a cabaret show in May. So
lot's coming up in April and May.

was fun, good time.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Thank you Paul James.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
And of course their show is coming up none since
the Second Coming and it is going to be a
good time April eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth. Once again, all
the details you need are at Mary in Palace dot org.
