Speaker 1 (00:00):
In studio today is the cast from The Girl with
the Golden Locks, happening at the Marrion Palace Theater this weekend.
You can see it on Friday, Saturday and Sunday February
twenty first, twenty second, and twenty third. And we're happy
to have men. Kirk. Let's get things started. Kirk dett Wiler,
the executive director of the Maryon Palace Theater. How are you,
my friend?
Speaker 2 (00:19):
I'm good.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
How you doing.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
I'm wonderful. I'm hiding behind the monitor.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
I was gonna say, oh my fut I physician myself
so I can see you. Yeah, it's all good man.
We're having a very successful season. Yes, and we're very
excited about our junior play coming up this weekend, The
Girl with the Golden Locks.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yeah, tell me a little bit about the show and
introduce who you got here today.
Speaker 3 (00:39):
Well, I will let Morgan tell you more about the show, okay,
because I haven't really seen it yet, I know. The
basic premise is it's a you know, it's a play
on you know, the Man with the Golden Gun combined
with Goldilocks and the Three Bears, where Goldilocks is a
spy and the Three Bears are dastardly and they're you know,
she's out to get them with her cohorts. But yeah,
(01:03):
and Morgan Schwartz is our director. This is her freshman
time to direct something. The gal that's been directing the
past few years, Emily Jacsek, she got a new job.
First of all, she had to finish her master's. Then
she got a new job. She's vice principal Ridgdale, and
she's like, I need to take a couple of years off.
(01:25):
So this is a great opportunity for Morgan, and I
know she's loving it, and I'll let her tell you
more about the show.
Speaker 1 (01:32):
Morgan Schwartz absolutely, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
I think Kirk pretty much covered it. That's the way
I sell it to people is that Goldilocks works for
the FBI, which is the fairy tale Bureau of Intelligence,
along with her other fairy tale friends, and the three
Bears are up to no good and they're out to
figure out what's going on and how to stop them.
It has so many fairy tale characters that you know,
just in a modern new way that you've never seen
(01:56):
them before. There's also like the chief of the FBI
is Granny from Little Red Riding Hood. The temp of
the office is the little pig. So there's just a
little twist on every fairy tale that you know.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
Oh that is so much fun. Now did you go
searching for this or how did you guys come about
the play?
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Yeah, it was it was a quick turnaround, Yeah, to
find out that Emily was not available this go around,
so we started searching and the humor in this one
is what kind of drew me to it. So yeah,
it was fun to find.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
How fun. Now you've got a cast obviously of a
lot of fun young characters. It is a junior production
and it gets started this Friday, the twenty first, twenty second,
and twenty third. You can see it. Tickets start at
just thirteen dollars. Morgan, tell us about the folks that
you brought with us today and the cast that you have.
Speaker 4 (02:41):
Yeah, so we have three of our main agents, our
FBI agents. Ella is Agent Red, Elena is Agent Gold,
and Olivia is Agent White. So it's little Red riding Hood,
Goldilocks and snow White is their kind of fairy tale counterparts.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Okay, well, guys, let's go around the room. Let's start
with you. Tell us a little bit of about your character,
and uh, and who you play? But tell everybody first
who you are and where you go to school and
stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
I'm Ella of the from Boys. I go to Berkshire
Middle School, and I play Agent Red, who is Little
Red riding Hood and she's the sister of Agent White.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
So yeah, okay, okay, fun stuff. Tell So that's your character.
How did you come about to being in the play.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
I was recently in Lion King Junior. I played a lioness,
and I thought I'd want to come back to Marion
because it seems like a really cool place to be
in a play.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
There you go, we fun stuff. Thank you so much.
How about you tell everybody about yourself, where you go
to school and what you play.
Speaker 5 (03:38):
My name's Elena Adams, I'm homeschooled, and I'm Agent Gold
who's Goldilocks okay, and I'm I mean like like I'm
guess I'm the agent who like really isn't worried about
anything to happen and just is like, you know, whatever,
I can do.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
It, I get it. Is this your first Is this
your first production at the past, No, No.
Speaker 5 (03:59):
I've this is probably like my eighth wife.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
Oh wow, yeah, yeah, So what was your first show
that you did at the Palace?
Speaker 5 (04:06):
My first show was Madagascar Junior?
Speaker 1 (04:08):
And how long ago was that?
Speaker 5 (04:11):
Four years ago? Probably?
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Okay, boy, you were just into talking when you were
doing that. That's fantastic. Yeah, fun stuff. Who's over here?
Who else? We have to tell us something about you.
Speaker 6 (04:21):
I'm Olivia Shurring. I go to Dempsey Middle School and
I'm Agent White, who is snow White and she's like, well,
she's Asian red sister and she's like shy and the
new one.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Okay, okay, talk a little bit about playing snow White.
How fun is that?
Speaker 6 (04:37):
It's super fun. She's like very scared and timid all
the time and really relies on everyone else. But she's
it's been really fun to get to like develop her
as a character.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah, is this your first show at the Palace?
Speaker 6 (04:50):
No, this is like I don't even know, but I've
been doing shows at the pal since I was eight.
Speaker 1 (04:56):
Oh wow, Okay, so you've done a ton so you're
really having a good time. So tell me one of
you three, if not all of you, why do people
why should people plan to come to this show this weekend?
We'll start with you. Why do you think the kids
should with kids, adults, anyone should come to the show
this weekend.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
I think that there are a lot of adults that
kids and adults would I mean, there are a lot
of jokes that kids and adults would love. And I
find that the humor is very funny and it's a
twist on a classic fairy tale story.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
I love it. I love it. What's your cell of
why people should come see the show?
Speaker 5 (05:29):
I mean, I agree, it's also like really funny, really funny,
and it's like a lot going on, so it's a
really fun thing to watch and like you won't get
bored when you're watching it.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
Oh, I love that. That's fantastic. How about you?
Speaker 6 (05:41):
Yeah, I agree. I mean there's a lot of humor,
but I also think it's a good take on like
all the fairy tale stories together and like how the
characters from stories that like basically everyone grew up with that,
like all how they all tie together. And I think
that's super interesting.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
That's a really good point. I do like that because
it kind of brings everything together, and it brings it
together in a story that maybe you've never heard before
because it's a combination of different things. Is that a
real good summation Morgan of how the show goes.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Yeah, I would say so. I almost feel like it's
a little reminiscent of Shrek or it is the fairytale
world where all the characters do live together, and you
get to see how they live in that world and
how they interact and kind of the hierarchy of it.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Yeah, not my gum drop buttons. Huh No, that's fantastic.
The show sponsored by Jim and Bark Greatham. The cast
party sponsored by Pillar Credit Union, and the show is
coming up this weekend. It's The Girl with the Golden
Locks and you can see it at the Marion Palace
Theater this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday twenty first, twenty second,
(06:47):
and twenty third. Details at Maryonpalace dot org. You can
get your tickets there as well as at the box
office at the Marion Palace Theater. If you are interested, Morgan,
anything else you wanted to talk about for this show specifically.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Oh, I just think everyone's doing a really good job.
I think it's a show that you don't want to
miss and that you'll be thinking about for a little while.
Hopefully it keeps you entertained and keeps you laughing. Good
family night out.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
It does sound like a lot of fun and of course,
as cold as it's going to be for the next
couple of weeks, it'll be good to go in the
Palace because, boy, let me tell you, I was in
there Saturday night. We were comfy and we had a
wonderful time. Kirk, You've got a lot of shows coming
to the Palace Theater in the next couple of months,
especially just in the next month itself. Tell everybody a
little bit about what's going on. All the musicals are
(07:31):
coming to right exactly.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
But one thing I do want to plug is on
our dress rehearsal, which will be on Thursday the twentieth,
We have a special we invite we do a special show.
It's co sponsored by store Ed Labels and the Department
of Developmental Disabilities and the Central Ohio Autism Society. We
do a sensory friendly performance. We invite them to our
(07:57):
dress rehearsal. It's going to be six o'clock, right, It's
going to be six o'clock show, but that is open
for those of so century friendly. What everything that we
keep the house lights on, the mics aren't as loud
the music's not as loud, so but that'll be a
century friendly performance Thursday night of The Girl with the
Golden Lucks.
Speaker 1 (08:14):
And that'll be the official dress rehearsal, and everybody will
be ready to go for a Friday opening show.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
Oh yeah, be very exciting. But March we always host
the three county schools musicals. We've got Ridgedale, Pleasant and
Elgin doing their musicals. But the end of March, We've
got a Jimmy Buffett tribute show, which I'm really excited about.
When I got this job, I thought, Okay, you know,
sometimes you know, we'll get some you know, we had
(08:39):
Lee Greenwood, we had Amy Grant, you know, maybe we
can get Jimmy Buffett man. You know, he's you know
that era and maybe still performing. And then you know
he passed away, dang him. So but so the first
thing I did was, okay, he just he died while
I was putting together this season, and I thought, oh,
this would be a great opportunity. People will love to
see him. You know, he's in the news. And so
(09:01):
I search. There's a million Jimmy Buffett tribute bands. The
one I thought was the best I got. So it's
called Changes in Latitude and that'll be March twenty eighth,
so we're really looking forward to that as well.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
That's cool. Got Lone Star coming.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Lone Star's coming in May. May, and well in April
we've got our adult play Nonsense to the Second Coming,
which will be directed by Mark Neville. This is a
show that we had on the schedule and then it
was canceled because of COVID. It was supposed to be
April twenty twenty, and we pretty much made up did
(09:35):
all the shows that we were supposed to do. That
was the only one left that we had not advertised
sold tickets for and it finally it's back on these schedules,
so that'll be uh late April, so check that out.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
That's fantastic, And of course you can get the whole
list of everything going on by tickets to get all
the details of this show, that's the Girl with the
Golden Locks by going to Marionpalace dot org. Once again,
