The Marion Palace Theatre Welcomes Ain't Misbehavin' May 20th!

Kirk Detweiler from the Marion Palace Theatre joined the show to talk about the touring Broadway production of Ain't Misbehavin' coming to the theatre on May 20th!

that begins. Well, you canbegin to get tickets in the general public

with that being said, you wereblessed with an opportunity to bring a nationally
touring Broadway musical to Marion, Ohio. That is no small task and they're
coming next week. Talk a littlebit. They are coming, Yes,
May twentieth, ain't misbehavin. Itwas big on Broadway one Best Musical in
nineteen seventy eight. It's just acompliment, it's not doesn't it doesn't really

have a story. It kind oftells the story the renaissance of Harlem in
the twenties, like in the youknow, the speakeasy days, and it's
all in the music of Fats Waller, Yeah, who is a big kind
of jazz composer back in the day. But you know, you know the
song ain't miss Bey even you know, that's that was a big song.
I saw this. I actually sawthis in Indianapolis in the eighties at a

dinner theater. It was just likea professional show, but it was just
a dinner theater, right that Ihad at Buddy who is I had worked
with a cedar Point who was inthe show. But I just remember,
it's from beginning to end it isjust joy. It is joy and it's
fun. Yeah, and it's justgreat. Tombs are so colorful. So
then right, what the what thedress? I mean, it's just it

just looks like a beautiful, perfectshow. Really, yeah, and we're
real excited to bring it now.Tina Fey is behind this, right,
well, I got her, that'sthat. That's funny story. So I
went to college with her husband,Red Jeff Richmond, and um, you
know Tina Fey is Tina Fey,so you know she's they have a bit

of money in the bank. Andwhen I got the job at at the
Palace, you know, we're alwayslooking for benefactors and sponsors, and I
called up my old friend Jeff,I said, hey, um, and
they they actually actually ended up sponsoringthree shows last season, and um,
he's now he's on our sponsor list. So I actually I called him up

because you know, he wrote themusic for Mean Girls and Rovelli was doing
the musical Mean Girls. And Itold Julia Vanderhoff, who was an old
high school buddy of mine. Wewent to Valley together. I told her,
you know, I told her,Hey, you know, I know
Jeff Rischman, I know Tina Fey. I said, I even get him
to do like a break a legvideo for you. Yeah. So I
called up Jeff. I said,hey, buddy, um, I'm just

asking a big favor for me.He goes, okay, we'll sponsor.
Ain't misbehavin. I'm like, wow, thank you. That's not even what
I was gonna ask. So Igot the thank you video, I got
the break of leg video. Hegave me six thousand dollars to sponsor the
show. And I'm like, okay, it's nice to have rich friends.
That's amazing. Yeah. So yeah, So they they do have a foundation,
correct charitable foundation, and they youknow, donating to nonprofit historical theaters

is you know, one thing thatthey do. I know they've been very
generous. You know, we wentto Kent State together. They've been very
generous. With ken State Theater program, right, so you know it's a
mutual friend who is still at kenState told me, hey, ask jeffy
lot and he paid for them.I okay, Jeff's getting a phone call.
