WayV celebrating Friday and celebrating Barefoot CountryMusic FESTIV will It kicked off yesterday,
continues today, runs through the weekend. This is what we've been counting down
for for so long, and it'sfinally here Foot Weekend. And it's extra
special today, Mike because one ofthe Barefoot Country Music Fest artist stars,

(01:07):
one of our favorites for many manyyears, is hanging with us on the
show. South Jersey's own Mari Justine. Yay, Hey Mara, how you
doing? Super excited? I truly, I'm such a huge fan of everybody
a part of the lineup, andI mean to think that I'm on the
list the same list is like,it's very cool and it's huge. I

(01:32):
know it's crazy. I'm just I'mlike a static. So I'm super excited,
and you know, been getting everythingready, so yeah, can't wait
to be on that beat. Youknow, we've done talkback for tickets now
for what feels like three weeks. So what people had to do was go
into the free iHeart Radio app andthey had to give us who they are
most excited to say. If youwere to pretend you had to do that,

(01:55):
who who are you going to sneakaround and be like, I need
to see? Is it Luke Bryan? Is it Old Dominion? Oh Man?
Better yet? Who are we hopingto see it? Getting the sandwich
in the back Craft Services show?I would say Luke Bryan because I know

(02:17):
him from American idol. Oh that'strue. Yes, I forgot about it.
I didn't put that together. Ohyeah, you can just slid over
Luke. Luke, what's up?I have a thirty seconds on your set
too, and he just seems likesuch a fun nice guy. Hopefully he's

(02:38):
like that in person. Yeah,No, he's super super cool. He's
very down to earth person, sohopefully, I mean, that'd be cool
to see him. Yeah, yeah, you remember me? He probably will.
Yeah. Yeah. I feel likeI feel like, once you're on
those shows, you remember everybody.Yeah, so tell us about today,
because you're in the lineup for today. Yes, how many songs are you

(03:00):
gonna do? How does you pickwhich songs? I'm gonna do about seven
songs. It's a thirty minute set. So I've just been putting together like
mainly country, but I'm doing alsoa lot of rock that kind of has
like a country flair to it.Yep. So I feel like it'd be
really exciting, and doing a coupleof songs that I've done on the show

(03:23):
My Voice a couple of months ago, So I think I think it'll be
pretty cool, and I'm just excitedto get up there. I think that,
uh, the energy from the festivals, I mean, it's it's just
the best. I love it,like I'm obsessed with it. So I'm
very excited. See, this iswhy I love festivals and w W it's

(03:44):
the the energy. I took myson the Royal Rumble we were at WrestleMania.
It was the best. There wasa point when I just pushed him
in a way like no, no, this is for Daddy, the undertakers
here for me. I love thefans too. You're just in it together

(04:06):
and just there to have a blast. Well, we're gonna check back in
with Mara in just a little bit. South Jersey's Oh Maria Justine a Barefoot
Country music fest, one of theartists this weekend, actually today, and
then the fest continues all weekend. We're Mike and Diane on ninety five point
one WayV. It's ninety five pointone WayV. It's the Mike and Diane

(04:28):
Show, and we have been takenover. Somebody call the police. I'm
just kidding. In the door today, she's playing Barefoot this afternoon and she
is joining us on the show today. Now, we did just talk about
the fact that Luke Bryan, oneof your judges, he's playing. I
want to know more about the showbecause I've always kind of wondered this as
I'm watching, and now I haveyou in front of me. What does

(04:51):
the week look like? Like tosay, the show show airs on Tuesday?
Like what are you doing on Thursday? Like how much? Like how
do you pick song? Oh?Like the whole process, the whole process?
Yeah yeah, yeah American Idol becauseshe's been on American Idol. Yeah,
because I was, how about what'sthe easier one? Well, they're

(05:12):
actually the week process, like leadingup to the next performance is kind of
the same. Yeah, so let'sgo with that. Yeah. So I
mean you're just kind of getting ready, like yeah, practicing whatever song you're
doing. Is it like a twelvehour day? Oh yeah yeah, pretty
long days. But you know youjust kind of buy about and see where

(05:35):
like how many times on like ahow what's the latest that you've seen somebody
make a song changer? Like Ijust can't get this, Oh my god,
I've seen it happen a million times, like right before. Really Yeah,
sometimes people will have like a secondsong prepared and they're like, I'm
just I'm just feeling better about numbertwo. Yeah, Oh that sounded weird.

(05:57):
That's where we keep him off TV. Yeah, this is why I'm
in radio. Yeah, but whatan experience to to I mean, top
five on the voice, which wewere rooting for you every single week.
And what was it like to singall of Me with John Legend? Oh
my god, it was super, super exciting. It was like a childhood

(06:24):
dream come true because I had Ihad grown up singing that song and I
remember getting done after singing all ofMe with him, Like it was just
like on the spot duet. Ijust knew it from childhood. And my
mom was like, how did youremember remember the lyrics? And I was
like, oh, I used toplay Minecraft. I just ended there.

(06:45):
I used to Minecraft and I wouldlisten to that song on repeat. So
it's actually cool. I'll be goingto see him after Barefoot today. I'm
gonna go see his concert. Ohyeah, all the judges now John.
Now what's funny is I saw Johna few years ago, you know,

(07:08):
because radio is radio. We werehosting one of his concerts and we saw
his tour bus outside it's a smallerin city venue, and I looked,
We're like, where's John, Like, John's just not here, and he's
literally walking around the town walking hisbulldog. And he just comes around the
corner with his dog and like, that's the most casual thing I've ever seen

(07:29):
I they are the most Like meetingJohn and Gwen and Riva and Nile.
Yeah your coach, Yeah coach. That should have been something we're going to
talk about that. Yeah, theyare so down to earth. And I
remember my blind audition and how nervousI was, and I think it's just
because it's it had been a longtime since I had been on TV,

(07:53):
since I was like fifteen. Yeahnow I'm twenty one, right, And
it just all happened so quick, and there's so much leading up to that
moment that it was like, ohmy god, my heart. But then
getting to know them after like justbeing on John Seamen, then being on
Niles, ending on Niles. Theywere so cool. All of them were
so kind And did you grow upa one direction fan? I? I

(08:16):
actually I always loved their music,but I you weren't. I wasn't like
I weren't. No, but Ilove I love their music, of course
everybody it was so it was verycool to see like Nile in person and
everything. But I I always hadlike a versaal tile kind of taste in
music. Grew up like old music. Yes, just had a love for

(08:41):
all kinds of music. I gota compliment last weekend during Father's Day about
my playlist that was that was thebest compliment when somebody's like, hey,
this is a really well done playlist. One man the Voice kind of like
I'm on the radio or something.Well, my coach terrible at it,

(09:03):
but you're doing great. Thank you. I couldn't say anything bad though,
That's why it may not be agood coach. Everything like you sound great
to me. Well if you thinkso. Yeah. There's another dumb question
when you're on the show and you'reup for elimination. Yeah, can you
see is there a teleprompter? Yeah? Can you see the name pop up

(09:26):
before they say it? No?Okay, it's always a blank leaning up
to it blank, And it's like, am I the blank? Scary?
And you have like rehearsal for elimination? Yeah, it's like you, Yeah,

(09:50):
I could act better than I couldreact, like deep breaths like practice.
You know, I've always wondered andI've alway My favorite thing on The
Voice is you guys finally, Likethat first ten seconds on the blind auditions,
you're getting into the rhythm of thesong and then the seat turns around.
You just see eyes go wide, like yeah, what now do I

(10:13):
keep saying literally, And there's imaginehaving like we had a month prior to
the process of just like practicing thatsong, not knowing if we're gonna get
a chair turn and like be ableto audition. Ye, so to actually
be there, oh my goodness, and did all the chairs turn? I
forget Yeah, girl, imagine likeyou're amazing, thank you, Like it's

(10:43):
just so surreal to you. Ithink I blacked own. You know what's
funny is I can see it asyou're talking now. I'm like, she
doesn't remember everything, you know, for for being so young, you've had
so many amazingly experiences and you thinkabout it because you started singing so young.
So we're just so proud of youand so happy. And we're gonna

(11:05):
check in with Mara in just alittle bit because she is one of the
Barefoot Country Music Fest performers. Itis Barefoot Weekend. It kicked off yesterday.
Checking back in with Mary Justin comingup soon on ninety five point one
WayV ninety five point one w AYV. We have been taken over by
maraa Justine sh It's the Mike MikeDiane Mara Show Today Mike make Diane well,

(11:31):
you get it, she is playingBarefoot this afternoon. You got to
get out of here soon, getover the sound check and hit the stage.
But listen, we were just talkingkind of off the air about all
the different people you have met, whether it's the Nick Cannons, the Howard
Sterns, the uh Luke Bryan's,the you get it, the judges,

(11:52):
all of them. You get acall now. We did talk about the
fact that you know, Luke isin town this weekend, so is John
Legend. One of them called, you're a Jersey girl. Where are you
sending them to have the best Jerseyday ever? Oh? My god,
treasures on. We're all going tojudge you on this. John Legend just

(12:13):
called and said, Hey, Ihave like five hours. Where am I
going? What am I doing?I want to feel South Jersey. Ah,
obviously the beach right obviously, methinking of like the mosteese exactly,
go see this giant elephant. Hit's kind of cool, and you could

(12:39):
you could probably maybe go in myhouse make spaghetti or something. You know.
Oh no, that sounds like aplant. You know what's funny is
I just found out that's as Jerseythat's as northeast as it gets, just
being like, come over, mymom will make spaghetti. Yep, that
doesn't happen other places. Yeah, that's only here here knock on the door.
But there's so it's hard to whittleit down because there's so much to

(13:01):
do with. What do you say, Yeah, for the kids, Yeah,
every single kind of food on theboardwalk exactly, We're going to get
all the food that makes you feelhorrible. And you got to catch your
toesies in the sand, just likeBarefoot Country Music festive dogs in the sand
exactly, So you do as Mikesaid this same afternoon. I mean,

(13:26):
you you're going to be on stageat Barefoot. How do you wrap your
head around that? Do you getnerves nervous right before? Or do you
just you've been performing so long thoughfor so many years, you started so
young. Do you get those jittersbeforehand? Of course, of course I
think it would. I mean now, like nowadays, it's more like excitement,

(13:48):
yes, anticipation, Yes, I'mlike anticipating it. So then when
I get up there, it's justlike the adrenaline just kind of I kind
of live in the moment, butit's not it's not like the televised shows,
you know, like those are waymore like yep, this is going
to live on the internet forever, right right, So like something like this,

(14:09):
I'm like, I'm just like kindof it's kind of like I can't
wait to see the crowd. It'shappened. I love it. Yeah.
Again, That's why I love ww A because I love live music,
and I love the w w A. I love because of the energy.
I'll find myself at home like bestWWE pops where the crowd goes crazy,

(14:30):
because there's no better feeling when whenyou walk out on stage and you feel
that. Now, keep in mind, we're radio people. We're not talented,
so when we get to go tothe concerts, were all different talents.
Everybody can talk, right, Istill have trouble talking right to be
fair, so do we We usuallywill get out on stage. We're like

(14:52):
the first ones, like we're beforethe music, we're before the artist.
But when we walk out, thecrowd cheers because somebody's on stage, something's
happening, and it's like you're notcheering for us. I know that you're
cheering for action. You're ready forthe show. Yes, and that energy
that comes back at you. Isbig. It makes me want to go
I went wrong by not singing thecrowd. This is something. Everybody's in

(15:18):
it together. And I hear there'sa guy named let me think of what's
his name, Oh, Keith Urban'salso that guy. He's also in the
lineup today. Not bad, nota bad day to share with you know.
Yeah, yeah, I mean,we don't even have time to list

(15:41):
all of the artists because it's somany. It's lost so many stages,
and it's just amazing that the organizationthat goes into this for four days on
the beach and how many artists andhome hometown concert. Yeah, you don't
get that much that that doesn't happenmuch where it's like the true hometown concert

(16:02):
and it's the big one, youknow what I mean. It's not like
just some little rinky dank one. It's it's Barefoot. Yeah, it's huge.
We've been counting down for so long, so we're so excited that it's
finally here. Excited kicked off yesterdaygoes through Sunday. Now, since you're
performing today, you're gonna be goingthe rest of the weekend to Barefoot.
No, because I actually have I'mdoing another festival tomorrow. Hold on,

(16:27):
we're going to talk about more. We're gonna talk about traveling. Yeah,
talk about traveling. Coming up.We'll check in more with one of the
Barefoot Country Music Fest stars. Marriagejustin soth Jersey Zone on ninety five point
one w A YV. It's ninetyfive point one W A YV. The
Mike and Die and show Married.Justine here with us today, playing Barefoot

(16:48):
later this afternoon and bar the wayBarefoot goes all weekend. You got Kane
Brown, You've got Luke Brian.Oh, it's weird. It's weird.
I'm saying Luke Brian in front ofpeople who know Luke Bryan. You've got
a million different artists. We'll justcall it that. Marriag Justine also an
artist, The Beach Boys, theBeach That's what I keep forgetting this.

(17:10):
Yeah, Hi, Mara, Hi. After Barefoot, we were just talking
about it was like, hold that, it's like you're you're traveling about,
like you're around the country a littlebit. Now, how weird is it
to like have that high because I'vehad this before, the high of like
the concert, immediately getting a car, you're off to somewhere else, and

(17:32):
it's like the highs and the lowsof like you're what's the scientific word for
that? Ah, I don't wantto say bipolar. That's where that's wrong.
On and doorphins. No, No, you get it. You're kind
of just coming down from like asort of like a high, like a
natural high. Right, yes, yes, I was trying to find a
science word. I'm not smart enoughfor that moment. As we just talked
about how good we are with words, and then you're on to the next

(17:57):
performance, right, Yeah, howwhat's the most shows you've done in let's
call it a two week span, like how like man oh man, Well,
I mean coming from LA when Iwas on the show, Yeah,
yeah, it was like we weredoing live shows and interviews and then I

(18:18):
would sometimes fly home in between thatand do a show here down while the
show. All those shows were yeahimpressive. Yeah, so it was.
You know, I'm kind of I'mused to it, but I also love
it. I love it. It'sit's cool to like be you know,
I'm twenty two now, yeah, and like just traveling you still have that
energy, like so I kind ofjust get excited about it. I definitely

(18:42):
think it's it can be kind ofbittersweet because you're like everybody the crowd's crazy,
you know, and then you kindof go home and then it's quiet.
Yeah, it's just quiet. Yeah, you know, it's like you're
just kind of like, what iswhat is happening. I've heard that a
lot about artists that sometimes that Iactually most of the artists I've talked to

(19:03):
I've talked exactly about that. It'sabout the the high of the show and
then you go home and it's likethe loneliest place in the world. But
then you kind of need that timeto decompress. I would think, yeah,
it's it's it's super important to havethat time to decompress because it it's
like if I don't ever have thatalone time, then I how I'm going
to sort through my thoughts and likewhy I'm as a person and it,

(19:27):
you know, So I kind ofthat's my time to just like dive through
everything and relax. And but thenwhen we're get going, it's like,
all right, sometimes I'll just leavemy bag packed as well, even in
case ready in the middle, yougotta do laundry, you got to do
some other things real life. Pack, but you have been doing this so

(19:49):
long, twelve years old on AGTand I have to say, I think
you were maybe fourteen fifteen when Iheard you sing for the first time.
And I was em seeing the AlantaCity Marathon and I walked up to the
boardwalk and I heard the most beautifulvoice. And I said this to you
on the radio the following Monday morning, and it was you as Marya Justine

(20:10):
singing the national anthem. And Ijust think that you just you've got a
girl. You have an absolutely beautifulvoice. Thank you. That is,
you know, a talent that obviouslyyou can take lessons, you can hone,
you get experience, you've been doingit for so long. But that's
really a talent to me that you'reborn with and you've got it, girl.
Thank you so much. Oh welcome. Speaking of that coming up,

(20:33):
I would have like to talk toyou about now instead of talking the voice,
instead of talking American idol or aGT, I talked about your music
now, not covering other people's music. Your music. Yeah, sounds great
coming out coming up. Mike andDiana Marra on ninety five point one WayV.
It's ninety five boy one WayV.It's Mike and Diane Show, and

(20:55):
this morning has been nothing but giggles. I feel like, even when the
music's playing, we're just sitting inhere talking about nothing but everything at the
same time, which is a signof something great, like a sign of
something very nice. Mary Justina hasjoined us for the morning. She is
a part of the morning show fortoday. She is playing Barefoot later today.
But we've talked a lot about thevoice and American talent and American idol.

(21:21):
Let's look you now, you're notcovering other people's songs, which is
I thought about the mentality of that. It's weird because you have to on
those shows. You have to takesomebody else's song make it your own.
So you're almost you have the heart. I don't know what the herd part
is. I've never written a song. I don't know if writing the song
or actually producing the song is actuallythe hard part. So you've what to

(21:42):
you is the key? Is itto write? Sit down and write because
we talked about decompressing, and I'mlike, that's where all the the writing
gets done is in the quiet timesafter you're on the stage. To you,
how are you? How? What'syour process of writing a song,
like, do you you hear themusic first or do you hear the words
first? Well, uh, Ihave my trusty notesap, you know,

(22:07):
walk around with every day. Peoplesay the people say the same. So
I mean, I could be doinganything and sometimes I'll think of like a
melody or lyrics, you know. It's it's so funny. My mom is
like the wisest person that I know. Yeah, and she's just a brilliant
woman. And sometimes she'll say thingsand I'll write it down just like,

(22:33):
wait, yeah, that's lyrics somethingpretty wise. Right, Wait, this
is good stuff. Keep it coming, mom, Mom's writing my music now.
So no, sometimes I'll just it'llcome out of nowhere and I'll write
it down. But I since Iwas a little girl, I've I've just

(22:55):
had things come into my head inmy heart and that I would just put
down on paper. I felt likeI had to get it down on paper
and it was my outlet in asense, and it I feel like,
it's just so cool to now nowthat I'm older, I'm now finally being
able to express all that. It'salmost says like a diary of a sort,

(23:18):
like but the only problem is you'regiving everybody your diary, like,
which is which can open you upto a lot of thoughts. Oh yeah,
from a lot of people, becauseit's your diary. It's your thoughts,
it's your opinions. Everybody has them, but some people are just able
to make them rhyme. So yeah, well, I think I think in

(23:41):
sharing that is honesty and in thatis truth as well. And like I
feel, I feel like most ofwhat you think would be in my diary
is also in yours. Yea,yeah, you show is my diary enough
about everybody? My kids, thisis and our bosses let us know about

(24:07):
our diary, like, oh thatwas an interesting, interesting entry today.
No, but it's it's authenticity,I think is the word you're looking for.
Yes, yes, And I youwould be surprised how many people can
relate to your diary, you knowexactly because we're all doing the same thing.
Oh yeah, we're all thinking thesame thing. And it's I think

(24:29):
that it's important to bring it tolight and keep bringing it to light because
you know, like we said, like we go home at the end of
the day and we are just toourselves, like nobody knows it's better than
ourselves. And so there's a lotto decompress. So with that honesty,
it's kind of refreshing. Like II crave that the more that I get
older, I'm like, right,I really just want something real, I

(24:52):
want something honest, and I wantto always portray that. I always want
to be Mara. Yeah, youknow, Yes, That's one of the
reasons I love Thomas Rhet's song LifeChanges, because it's like he wrote that,
like as was happening, like asit was happening at Like it's he's
not pretending to use different words. It's just like my wife, here's her

(25:14):
name, we adopted a baby, now she's pregnant. What happened? It's
just very authentic. I love authentic, and I feel like a lot of
your music is authentic, and that'sthe easiest way to connect with people.
I feel like is words authenticity, and we all go through different stages as
you get older. It's just differentthings happen and different things that you're you're

(25:38):
experiencing than someone else did or wedid or whatever. So so good job,
marriage, justice job. So talented. She's so talented that she's in
the lineup a Barefoot country music fest. I cannot believe it's Barefoot weekend.
We've been counting down for so long, and Mara is performing this afternoon.
She is part of the lineup todayBear for Country Music Fest thirty five point

(26:00):
one w A y V, Mike, Diane, Mara, Marria Justine.
We were it seemed like just aweek or two ago we were rooting for
you on the Voice Top five onthe Voice. Congratulations again and it was
three weeks ago fair Foot Country MusicFestival. Mara is on the lineup for

(26:22):
today. Another guy you may haveheard of, Keith Urban, no big
deal, the headliner tonight. Yeah, hey, he's the headliner tonight.
But we're more interested Marria, Justineand Mara. You're ready for all your
songs. Obviously you got the setthe lineup going for today. Yep,
yep. When you're done with this. We were just whispering about a tour.

(26:42):
Yeah, oh, a tour.I will actually be going on tour
the beginning of October until the endof November with Maverick City. Now do
you know all the venues already?I know you probably can't really because you're
all crazy? Is you with that? We get those emails all the time.

(27:03):
Yes, it's confidential. Well Ithink that The pre sale of the
tickets will be coming out this comingweek, so I know that it'll be
stadiums around the country the recently stadiumstadiums and Square Garden. Oh yeah,
wow, yeah, amazing. Ithink it gives me just to talk about

(27:29):
our little girl has grown up now. Yeah yeah, and we're gonna be
just touring were everywhere for a monthand a half, I believe. So
it's gonna be like thirty five. You gotta you've got a van or a
bus or flying huge bush kay hugebus. You know what, you're a

(27:52):
little young to have the bus.I think we need to get you.
I think we got to get youback in like the little hippie van with
the trailer behind it. We gotta, yeah, we gotta rub some dirt
on it. And she's putting inher time, I mean, performing for
so long, even if she isyoung. So Barefoot Country Music Fest.
I just can't get over how excitingthat's going to be. Everyone with their

(28:14):
toes in the sand and you're performingin the biggest stars and so many artists,
and the fact that this all cametogether a four day festival is amazing.
And we were so happy to seeyour name on the lineup. Thank
you, You're welcome. Thank you. I'm so excited. I mean,
I actually just came out with asong. It was on It was called
the Maverick City Reimagined Album and Ising Refiner on that. So I will

(28:41):
actually be singing at Barefoot. Sothere we go. If you want to
hear it at Barefoot, here ittonight, yes, or just stick around
for another like fifteen to twenty secondsand then we'll go from there. Possibly.
Yeah. I can't wait to hearit. Thank you. What's fun,
Diane, you weren't here for this. This may be against the rules

(29:02):
a little bit, but uh,Mara told me one of her friends dads
is like the CEO. Oh nice, Okay, well we're gonna call Mary's
friend. And so if you're listening, mister boss man, blame your daughter
for meeting Maara. But the factthat she's performing this at Barefoot makes it

(29:27):
extra special. And you're going tobe performing this, I assume when you
kick off your tour. And weare just so proud of you. Like
we said before, you're just sotalented and so lovely and and we just
we love you. Mary Justine, thank you so much for coming into so
blessed. Thank you truly. Youguys are like so much fun. Thank

(29:49):
you so much again. We mighthave you in every morning just to tell
