Speaker 1 (00:00):
On a lot of sports talk stations. I've had him
in previous markets as well. Bob Nightingale joins us on
the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Bob, let's start with the good
and maybe the great the Mariners.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Right now.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
They've won four in a row and fourteen.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Of their last eighteen games, and they're doing it with
hitting rather than what everybody thought would be with pitching.
When you look so far at this early rendition of
the twenty twenty five Mariners, what do you think of,
if you can, in a sentence or a paragraph as
long as you want to go, what you've seen so
far of Dan Wilson squad.

Speaker 4 (00:36):
No, I mean right now, you don't have the season,
and of today he might be the manager of the year.
That's amazing how the offense has come alive in September
when he took over, and of course the first month
of this season, and even with their pitching injuries. You know,
like you said, it's astounding what the offense is being
able to do. And I don't think anybody in the

(00:57):
world thought that Jorge Planca would be like it up
and be in the MVP conversation right now.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
No nobody did.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
And so right then and there, let's with him, Like,
what got into this guy? I mean he's getting near
Ted Williams territory. I know it's only a month into
the season, but where did this come from?

Speaker 4 (01:19):
Yeah, I mean nobody knows. I mean maybe I thought
that this. I mean it would have been thirty teens
trying to sign him. You know, nobody saw this coming.
I mean obviously you know, they got him at a
regionable price and you know, brought him back. I mean,
every every team you know could have had him. Everybody passed.
So amazing what he's doing, you know, kind of manage

(01:40):
you but they h you know, some of these guys
just come alive. And we saw that, you know, with
get tell Martine and left the marriage went to Arizona.
Jerk from profar what he did last year with San Diego.
She's yeah, you never know.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Bob Nightingale here on MJY in the midday, and you know,
one of the interesting things that you've seen his team
decimated by injuries. Victor Roebless out for three months, Vias
Surgery's done for the year, Ryan Bliss pretty much done
for the year. George Kirby has not pitched a single
inning yet in the twenty twenty five season, and now
the ace logan Gilbert goes down, how tough will it

(02:18):
be to sustain at this level of success when you
have all those injuries simultaneously.

Speaker 4 (02:28):
Well, it's tough. And they do have some depth and
that's that he view the organization. They do have depth
below and I think answer people were so upset, you
protuding in Seattle that they didn't go out and you know,
get some help because that pitching was so good last
year and so healthy. It's like, Okay, what are the
odds that happening again two straight years? And obviously it's

(02:49):
not going to happen. They're going to use more stars
than they have on all last year. So after the
you know, the offense, they've got to pick it up.
You know, it's kind of funny you look at the
Al West. The Texas Rangers now are doing what the
Mirrors did a year ago, great great pitching, and they
can't school. They can't score to save their lives.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
Yeah, I know, it's interesting how the pendulum changes like that.
And here's another thing too, Bob. I was looking at
the Mariners and in this eighteen game success going fourteen
and four, they haven't gotten pitching that have gone at
least six innings and hit that threshold. You look at

(03:29):
Brian wu He's done it three times in three starts.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
He's been phenomenal.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Castillo's only done it one time in his last three starts.
Emerson Hancock's done it twice. But Bryce Miller and Logan
Gilbert and their last four starts each haven't gotten to
the sixth inning threshold mark.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Why is that? Why?

Speaker 1 (03:48):
You know, why are guys and having because that becomes
more taxing on the bullpen.

Speaker 4 (03:55):
Oh it does when you've seen it all throughout baseball.
You need to be able to go deep in game teams.
A lot of these guys says, aren't aren't trained to
do that in the minor legs. Remember a couple of
years ago, John Smaltzen to me, what's the most unbreakable
record in baseball? You know, I throughout the usual stuff,
He says, No, Greg Mannix through twenty seven complete games

(04:15):
in minor levings. I looked it up. He was right.
I'm in twenty eight even and but just guys, aren't
you know, trained to go deep like that? And see
you still has the best young starting rotation in baseball,
and they will go deep it it's early, and then
one thing you want to do is, you know, almost

(04:35):
like what the Dodgers do, make sure these guys are
healthy in the second half, particularly September, when you're going
for the Pennance, going for the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Andre's Munyos.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
I mean, it has been just absolutely we're talking Mario
Mariano Rivera in the prime of his career. So far
this season, it's just been to watch this guy, it's
almost it's just it's like death taxes and Andre's moon
Yo coming in for the save. It's like the three
guarantees in life right now and seeing what he's done
so far, it's just been he's only given up five

(05:08):
hits in five innings. He's given up zero or he
has a zero point zero zero ERA, and he's got
eleven saves and eleven opportunities. He's been absolutely perfect where
I mean just didn't see and Edwin Diaz was good
in his previous reincarnation here in Seattle. But is Munos
could he become the best closer in baseball now for

(05:30):
a long time or is this just he's just having
a really great season.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Yeah, it's so early. I mean, we've seen guys do it.
The big big key is doing over time, you know,
like Rivera did and Trevor Hoffman. You know what's funny
when you think about it is, you know, it's only
like five lights out closes right now, and three of
them are on the West Coast. I mean, you can,
you know, certainly have the argument Mason Miller is the
best in baseball right now, you know, and he's with

(05:56):
the Athletics Robert Swarez Podres. He hasn't given up a
run yet either. A run of course got Josh Hayder
out west with the Houston Astros. But it's amazing there's
not that many good ones. I mean, you have one,
it makes a big difference.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
You know, Bob.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
When you look at the Mariners this season, and there's
so many expectations that came into it, and I'm amazed that,
I thought, especially the way the season started out after
the sweep against San Francisco. Then they lose an extra
innings game to the Houston Ashers three weeks ago, and
I'm like, wow, this team, it's it just didn't look
really good. Then they go on to win fourteen out

(06:35):
of eighteen so when you look at this team the totality,
which team is the real manners the team that we've
seen there in the last eighteen games or the team
in the previous fourteen.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
Yeah, I mean, I think a very good team. You know,
expect to go on a fourteen to four clip, you know,
every eighteen games or else you give me setting, you know,
all time record for wins, you know, even more or
more wins the two thousand and one Marriors team had.
But no, it's a very good team. And you know,
the whole time we've all been saying, just need some offense,
need some offense, and now they're again to that offense.

(07:11):
So it's a really encouraging sign. You've got pitching injuries
and have the offense, you know, pick up the team. Uh,
you know, let's face it, you want to be in
the America League right now. The American League, you know,
is the you know, weaker league the National League. If
you go, okay, who's the top nine or ten teams
in baseball, I probably say, you know, eight or nine

(07:32):
of them are in the National League. So that America
League is wide open. You get in the playoffs, there's
a good chance to anybody to be playing the World Series.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Bob Nightingale joined us here on MJ in the midday
from us. Say today, Bob, what is the I always
like to ask this, I've only been here three months.
What is the national perception not just this year, but
really the last decade or two of the Seattle Mariners?
By the way, and I'll even ask you this it's
a loaded question because the only team in Major League

(08:01):
Baseball history to never make a World Series?

Speaker 3 (08:02):
But what's the national perception of the Mariners?

Speaker 4 (08:07):
Yeah? People think a a good, solid organization. You remember
that the great players have had. Remember Loup and Ellen,
great manager? You know Pat Gill a great GM. You
remember that more of yesteryear. And I still remember guy
was back in ninety five. I've never seen a city
turn overnight into a great baseball town where the cab

(08:29):
drivers and everybody else is talking marinor baseball. It used
to be a you know, a place where you know,
nobody wanted to watch baseball in the Old Kingdom. And
then of course you know, the team got great and
everything else. So it's always been a team I think
people kind of root for, like, oh, it'd be kind
of cool to see them you know, go real deep

(08:49):
one year. And I think that's why there was so
much frustration by mayor fan across the country saying, man,
spend some money or make some trades and get some
offensive help. You know, so many good free agents out there,
you know, not to go after a guy like a
p Alonso and things like that. You know, frustrated fans saying,

(09:10):
let's don't waste his pitching staff because we're seeing right
now on the on the other coast in Baltimore where
they have the great young hitters but don't have the
pitching and it's haunting him or you know, they're twelve
and eighteen thirteen eighteen now a sort of thing. So no,
it's always been almost like a you know, one of
those overlooked darlings. I mean, obviously not that many national

(09:32):
people end up in Seattle. It's so far to go.
People won't talk about it much, you know, being the
West coast. But you know, it's a team I think
people like. And obviously Dan Wilson very very very very
well respected as a player, and now I'm getting that
respect to as a as a young manager.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
When Dan Wilson's been great so far. The organization One
of the things that I have gleaned since being here
for three months is the fans are completely frustrated with ownership.
Specific Lee obviously, John Stanton and Jerry Depoto obviously has
to answer to mister Stanton, who's the guy that signs
the front of the checks.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
That's how it works in pro sports.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
And you look at the lack of moves, as you
mentioned in the offseason, and this is a question, Bob,
and I want you to be as transparent and hard
hitting as you can be. If you look at all
thirty Major League Baseball franchises, where would you rank the
Mariners ownership in terms of putting into a product? So,

(10:33):
in other words, Dodgers and Mets would probably be at
the top. You know, you got Mark Walter and Steve Cohen.
That's as good as it's going to get. Where do
the Mariners rank in terms of putting everything into or
not putting anything into the organization and the product on
the field. Where would you rank them amongst the other

(10:53):
twenty eight teams?

Speaker 4 (10:56):
Well, you probably go on the rankings on who's got
the biggest payrolls, and so you know, the Mariner's payroll,
you know is you know around the middle of the pack,
maybe a little uh you know, blow middle of the pack.
I can't remember what their payroll was, whether it's seventeenth
or eighteenth on the list. Yeah, you wish you'd be
more aggressive. I think a better answer will be after

(11:16):
July thirty. First, will ownership step up and say, go
ahead and be aggressive as you want, even if you
take on some big payrolls. We're here to spend it. Uh,
you know, I think every fan base that says we
want that payroll, Okay, if you don't want to go
to the lasery tax, we understand, at least get up
to the lasery tax. You know. I think you know what

(11:36):
makes it, you know, look worse is when you see
franchis like the Arizona Diamondbacks in San Diego Padres, who
are you know by smaller, smaller markets for sure, but
they have bigger payrolls in the Mariners and that shouldn't happen.
I mean, obviously Jerry to Poto Kit same thing publicly,
you know, nobody can that works for the Mariners. But

(11:58):
I think you all wish that, and the ownership said,
he let's do we want Let's do everything we can
and win I mean, look what what has done in
San Diego and they're selling out virtually every single game.
And I know they've you know, lots of money here,
but you know, but the lea they're going they're going.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
For it, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
And just to uh answer that question, they're nineteenth in
Major League Baseball in terms of the active twenty six
man roster out of thirty teams, below the Twins and
the Royals and one step above the Orioles. That's where
the se Seattle a number eleven TV radio market in America.

(12:37):
But yet they're nineteenth amongst thirty teams. That to me
is not good enough. You gotta do better than that.

Speaker 4 (12:43):
No, No, that should be Yeah, it should be much higher.
Particular you we're talking about you're not spending any money
in the pitshing the pishing is all young and stuff,
so yeah, out tacke of steel, they're you know, dirt cheap.
So yeah, the payroll should be much higher. I mean,
you know, you look at the Milwaukee Brewers. I mean
their paywell can't be much different Seattle. And then Milaukee
Brewers have the lowest TV revenue and the smallest market

(13:06):
in all of baseball. But you're right, at least get
at least get up the closer, you know, around the
two hundred million dollar mark, like Arizona is. I mean
they you know, they spent two hundred ten million dollars
on a pission the off season Clevern Burns and kind
of surprised everybody. But you know they went out and say,
you know what, we you know, we want to go win.
And I'm sure you know, so you to pose the

(13:28):
same thing. You would love to have them spend more money,
but it's not like you can come out and same
thing and be critical of ownership.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Bob, always appreciate you taking the time and spending it
with us, and we'll look forward to having you on
again sooner and later. Thanks again, all right, look forward
to it, all right, Bob nine Yale used say today,
So yeah, it's that's that's a tell. That's the ultimate
tell right then and there, that you're you're on the

(13:56):
twenty six man roster. We're just talking about that right now.
We're not talking about total payroll allocations, just the twenty
six man roster. You're below the Twins and the Royals.
Do you think that's gonna get this city any closer?
To getting to a World Series. I you know, it's weird.
I knew that before I came here, but I guess

(14:20):
when I got here, it escaped my I forgot it
that they're the only franchise in baseball history to never
go to a World Series. The Marlins came into the
league in nineteen ninety three, and they've won two of
them already. They've won two and they've been in the
league basically about seventeen years less than the Mariners have,

(14:41):
and they've won two already. The Diamondbacks as well, they've
won one. It's just interesting to see that. And I'm
hoping this season's it. Right Tampa Bay Rays came into
the league in nineteen ninety eight, twenty two years after
twenty one years after the Mariners first game.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
They've been to a couple World Series. So it's just wow.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Looking at this right now, they need to contract the
Marlins from the state of Florida and Miami. They spent
forty four How about this. Listen to this. The Marlins
have spent forty four and a half million dollars on
their active twenty six man roster. Juan Soto makes fifty

(15:29):
one million.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Dollars a year. He's making more than their entire freaking team.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
That tells you, right now, get them out of Miami,
get them out of Florida, Move them to Nashville, move
them to Charlotte, get them out of Miami. Blow that
stadium up or make it a stadium for the Canes.
By the way, tonight, the Dogs have their spring football
game over on Mottlake.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
How about that.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
The demnd Williams Era begins with Jedfish and company looking
forward to that and seeing the season that's coming up
for the Husky. So Softie's out there. They're gonna be
broadcasting the show out there, I believe this afternoon as
they get ready for the spring game going on tonight.
So I'm sure there's gonna be a lot of people

(16:15):
there getting ready for the twenty twenty five Huskies season,
which I think under the radar could be a team
that maybe gets nine or ten wins. We'll see tough schedule.
Ohio State comes in here, They've got some tough road games.
They gotta go to Maryland. I know Maryland's not this

(16:36):
great college football powerhouse, but what happened last year at Rutgers,
so big season coming up for the Husky spring game
coming up tonight on Mottlake. I know Christopher Kidd and
Ian Furnass will be there wearing their purple.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Sharing the Husky's on right, Why are you lying to
the people?

Speaker 2 (16:58):
No?

Speaker 3 (16:58):
I just thought I would. You know it is what
it is, So what do you say text of the day?
At anything else?

Speaker 1 (17:05):
We've got a ton of text today about great things
that have just been discontinued, whether it's food or whatever. Uh,
we've gotten a lot of great things. Some things we
can't say on the air as well. Four nine, four
to five one. The what do you say texts of
the day? If you want it to be read text?
We'll get to those next.

Speaker 5 (17:25):
Testing live from the R and R Foundation Specialist Broadcast studio.
Now back to MJLE Midday on your home for the Huskies,
Kraken and Sounders Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ
R FM.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
What do you say? Texts of the day? Four nine
four five one?

Speaker 3 (17:49):
You know it?

Speaker 1 (17:51):
It's the unrestricted free agent text line. All right, let's
start off with this mark. I've been taking your betting advice,
but I'm zero to three. What do you say? All
my money on the Warriors to win tonight. I don't
know about all your money. Just I always look at
like this. Bet responsibly. I can't say that enough. Bet responsibly,
and for me personally, I bet what I can, like

(18:17):
could I I mean, I'm not gonna sit here and
tell you like what I can afford to lose, because
you're gonna think I'm flexing. I bet the maximum amount
depending on how much of a like. I have a
value chart on how strong I feel of a game,
and I have a system, like on a six point
five or a seven three. Like the other night the Rockets.
That was a four figure win for me because I

(18:39):
love them that much. I didn't bet as much on
the Lakers, but I did bet enough, and I obviously,
beginning prior to that series, I had the Wolves and
Nuggets to win those series. So I really need Denver
tomorrow night. Bet the maximum amount that it won't basically
you're not gonna be eating ramen the next three weeks,

(19:02):
and enough to where it won't piss you off and
basically make everybody's lives around you miserable. That's the best
advice I can give because, believe me, BRO, when I
lose a lot of money, get the hell away from
me everybody because I am a bear and it is
I am not a pleasant person to be around.

Speaker 3 (19:22):
It affects you.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
And being a longtime gambler for over thirty some thirty
six years, it affects you. It does, and it's not
I don't bribe. I mean, it's not a pleasant place
to be. But if you are a gambler, you know
what I'm talking about.

Speaker 6 (19:39):
Earlier on in the show, you talked about or you
brought up the fact that missing what used to be,
whether it be your favorite snack, drink, whatever the case
may be. From the four two five, Kraft Mac and
Cheese ruin their pasta noodles. They're all mushy and groast
tasting now and fall apart. That sounds sounds really bad. Actually,

(20:00):
I'm sorry you going through that from the four two five.
My apologies to you.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Man. Yeah, that sounds pretty harsh, man harsh. How about this?

Speaker 1 (20:07):
Hawks are the one b of the NFC West forty
nine ers lost too much and drafted horribly. I agree
Cardinals will never get over the hump with Kyler Murray.
I agree with that both the Rams and Hawks are improved.
It's going to be a dogfight amen three to six.
So we are on we're some Podica, We're on the
same page. There Vegas got this one wrong and that
happens they got it wrong. This dude, Nick hennyan bro.

(20:29):
You need to do your homework, sweetheart. You need to
do a better job. Like you have no idea Seattle
Seahawks might have and I would say maybe the best
off season of any of the thirty two franchises in
the NFL. Seriously, no doubt about that.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
Mark.

Speaker 6 (20:47):
Have you tried the health Blizzard at Dairy Queen with
the chocolate ice cream?

Speaker 3 (20:55):
All right?

Speaker 1 (20:57):
Now, some things you read and you first you and
you're like, and you're like, yeah, maybe had a call.
I gotta I got one for Seattle personally, and I
think this would be awesome. The Seattle Grunge based on
the nineties alternative grunge music era, the Seattle Grunge. I

(21:18):
think that's cool. So you'll see the grunge tonight.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
I like it.

Speaker 6 (21:24):
I don't have a name. I haven't thought of it yet. Yeah,
but out of the two o six, A little bit
of gambling.

Speaker 3 (21:29):
MJ.

Speaker 6 (21:30):
Who's your derby action on?

Speaker 1 (21:33):
Not a horse racing guy, So I'm not going to
go there. I know my strengths and I know my weaknesses,
and I know where my specialties lie on. But I
appreciate you asking, don't I have no I should be
asking you that who should I take?

Speaker 3 (21:46):
Because I have no idea? How about this, MJ.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
You want to impress your lady with a fine Italian
meal Olive Guarden? Thank me late, No, no, no, I'm
gonna give you the all right Christopher kicking back me
up on this, I'm giving you the ken they moutambo
the figure wag no, no, no, no. Thanks to the
great PJ. Carlssimo, who is as Italian as it gets.

(22:16):
I'm taking a lady to Nolita this weekend. We are
going to Nolita and Ballard and I can't wait. And
I will give you my food review on Monday Nolita.
But thanks for Olive Garden. It's like fast and furious.
I don't need you to hold a piece of crap

(22:38):
in front of my face to know that it stinks.
I'm not gonna go there.

Speaker 5 (22:43):
Not in Mahas.

Speaker 6 (22:48):
This one is from three six oh headed to Casino.

Speaker 1 (22:53):
No, by the way, I'm the one who is supposed
to mispronounce, not.

Speaker 6 (22:56):
You what should I place a bet on Wyer's minus five?
Give me another one, hollyve.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
I'm looking at it right now. Hold on, hold on,
let me get the line, so I give you the
proper line here. Won't be giving you anything. The Nuggets.
The Nuggets minus one and a half. The Oh my god,
are you kidding me? I'm all over that tomorrow night.

(23:32):
I didn't know it was that low. The Nuggets minus
one and a half. This is why they fired Mike Malone, right.
They hired Rick Adelman's son David. They gotta win this game.
You can't lose this at home at ball Arena. I
think Joker, Aaron Gordon, and Jamal Murray along with Michael
Porter goo off Nuggets minus one and a half.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
You're welcome.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
Bet it now, dot dot dot wait for it, wait
for it, wait for it, thank me later.

Speaker 6 (24:01):
Speaking of things that are discontinued from the four to
two five, I don't know if this is discontinued, but
I think they want you to try it. The Nerd
Blizzard at Dairy Queen oOoOO. Now, I'm wondering if it
is discontinued, because.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
It sounds like that would be something that was discontinued.
It just sounds like it would be right.

Speaker 6 (24:19):
Yes, I'm gonna I'm gonna assume that much without googling
it first.

Speaker 3 (24:22):
But yes, yeah, exactly. So all right, let's go here.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
Uh some of these things, you guys are gonna get
me in trouble, dude, I gotta I gotta really read
these things before I start going what you uh, you
guys will uh say you're gonna get me in trouble
here on the air. Yeah, Mark, you need to go
to the Angry Beaver and experience the best NHL hockey
bar in town. The atmosphere is electric, it's amazing. From

(24:52):
the two oh six, we'll check that out. The Angry Beaver,
the name itself, I gotta go.

Speaker 6 (24:57):
I know you'll remember this from the three six. So
the original no foiled ding dongs?

Speaker 1 (25:02):
Oh yes, absolutely. Oh. I don't remember them being in
foil though, but I do remember the ding dongs.

Speaker 6 (25:12):
I do remember having them in foil.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
Yeah, yeah, no, I don't remember that, but hey for me.
S'mores crunch by the way, I y k y k.
If you know you know s'mores crunch cereal, google it.
It was.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
Epic.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
Oh. I used to after freaking elementary school, junior high school.
I would come home and have that with orange soda.
Oh not you know, milk obviously, but orange soda. I
would wash it down with. So Now they have this
thing called s'mores cereal made by Post and it's it's

(25:55):
it's the closest thing you'll get to Smortes crunch. You
can find it at your local fred Meyer. Get it
now and think me later.

Speaker 6 (26:02):
Speaking of team names for the Kraken Ladies, the Lady Kraken,
I don't even know who the lady cracking.

Speaker 1 (26:09):
Ooh no, no, no, no, no no. Let them have
their own, Let them have that. I think the Grunge
is perfect.

Speaker 6 (26:14):
Seattle freeze, that's the name with some attitude.

Speaker 1 (26:17):
Oh, I like it because it's hockey, because cold and ooh,
by the way, I gotta say the freeze, the freeze
up there with grunge.

Speaker 3 (26:26):
I like it.

Speaker 1 (26:26):
From the two oh six mark again, cheap ownership back
to win the majority owner. The owner was the owner
of Nintendo, who was more interested in pushing his devices
in the stadium and putting a good product in the field.
The MS franchise is just a business to them. They
Chris Larson and John Stanton have and utilize their algorithm
that compiles all expenditures and calculates the maximum profit. No.

(26:48):
Part of their focus is on winning beyond what makes
them the most profitable without spending more than they need to.
Despite the injuries we've had, their profits continue to rise,
so you won't see them capital letters spend because they
don't feel the need to. Again, their concerns have practically
nothing to do with winning. Chris and Berrien, who I
met Chris. That's a long text and I got through it.

(27:11):
But yeah, yeah, by the way, can I just say this?
My friend texted me this. You know what bs b
F and as Lebron James and that no suffer mcl
he goes like clockwork on command. There we go with
the excuses, b Ass. I want to see a real doctor,

(27:33):
not a Lakers doctor. I don't believe that you can
come up with all the BS excuses. You got that
ass whooped by Jana McDaniels from Seattle, you dubbed by
of course ant Man, Rudy Gobert and Nasri.

Speaker 3 (27:48):
Don't come up meet the excuses when you lose.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
You're such a bunch of freaking you are you are
trans as transparent as a hooker in White Center? Is
that where they are? That's is that a red light
district white center in Seattle? No, I heard it was.
I don't know, well, but anyway, I'm no. Yeah, here
we come with the excuses. Sorry, excuses are for losers,

(28:12):
and that's what the Lakers are.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
They're losers.

Speaker 6 (28:15):
Last one from me is from I just lost it.
Oh here it is from the three six.

Speaker 2 (28:23):
So MJ.

Speaker 6 (28:24):
You should have been there, been here when the Mariners
played in the Kingdome and it was discovered the more
expensive King beer cup held the same amount as a
regular cup.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
Ah, did not know that? Did not know that? How
about this?

Speaker 1 (28:42):
Yeah, quisp cereal, I do remember that. I actually do
no not nerd like dork nerds the candy. Yeah, we know,
we know what you were talking about with the blizzard.
We know.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
I'm just wonder if it's discontinued. Yeah, that's what we're
standing through. Six.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
Oh yeah, yes, we're talking about discontinued. Things that were great.
Don't make sense that why they were discontinued. So so
all right, I was gonna read one. All right, you
just have to make sure this was okay too, funny.
Hearing MJ talk how long he's been gamming make me
realize he's a couple of decades older, and I was
think the energy enthusiasm is more like a twenty five

(29:18):
year old. Thank you for the two IHO six. Believe me,
I don't look that much older than I have. And
by the way, I don't. I don't offer or ask,
but I have been told by arbitrary people who meet
me randomly, I look like in my early thirties.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
I will take it.

Speaker 4 (29:33):
I'm not.

Speaker 1 (29:34):
I'm Tom Brady's age daport noise age. But let's just
say that my genetics have been good to me. Plus
not drinking, not smoking, not doing drugs also helps as well. Okay,
so there's that Quizno's Chicken Carbonera. They aren't gone completely,
but they're only locations in Bremerton. But damn Warm's best,
damn warm sandwich I've ever had. Quiznows was the truth

(29:55):
back in the day. Wisdows was the truth. And you
don't see many of them, you know what I mean? Oh,
let me let me.

Speaker 3 (30:03):
Say this. I was gonna read this.

Speaker 4 (30:10):
You just.

Speaker 1 (30:13):
Some of these things are too funny. You know what
I missed the most that's discontinued. Boston Market. All the
rotisserie chicken at Boston Market.

Speaker 3 (30:25):
Was to die for.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
I was about to buy one last week from fred
Meyer because only like four ninety five, and I didn't
do it. So if somebody can text me and let
me know if the rotisserie chicken at fred Meyer is legit,
then I'll buy one.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
Four ninety five. You can't get a whole chicken for
four ninety five.

Speaker 1 (30:41):
I missed the rotisserie chicken with the cornbread, the the
cream spinach and the sweet potato.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
Cast roll a Boston Market. Rest in peace.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
I don't know why they just all sudden went away
and I missed Boston Market.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
Those are the what do you say? Text of the day.
Appreciate you joining us.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
We'll talk to the mayor coming up live from the
Virginia Mason Athletic Center. I know he wouldn't be at
Husky Stadium. We know that one. We'll talk to him
next live from rented right here on MJ in the midday.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
All right, thanks to Bob Nightingale for joining us.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
We will have Kevin Clark from The Ringer coming on Monday.
We'll talk about the NFL. Maybe some NBA covered that
as well, and some other guests lining up for next
week as well. Going to the Virginia Mason Athletic Center
is the Mayor Maple Valley Ian furness Ian. I remember

(31:45):
last week, you didn't give the Oilers much of a
shot against the Kings, and they come back and they
swept them in four straight.

Speaker 7 (31:52):
I thought, I said, if they've got the next one,
we have a series.

Speaker 2 (31:55):
But I was, you're right, you.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
Did, all right? You did? You did what? Yeah? You did.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
I didn't think.

Speaker 7 (32:00):
I didn't think that Calvin Pickard would win four straight
games or four out of five or whatever it ended
up being.

Speaker 2 (32:06):
Right, So, no, four straight games?

Speaker 3 (32:08):
Could he be the Jordan Bidnington of these playoffs?

Speaker 2 (32:11):
No?

Speaker 7 (32:12):
I knew picks when he played here. I love the guy,
love the story, but like he I thought they said
it well last night on Hockey Net in Canada, Kevin
be actually just said like he doesn't have to be great,
just be good enough, Like just be good and he
made a couple of massive saves at the end.

Speaker 2 (32:30):
That was a hell of it was a hell of
a Hawk. Series has been great so far.

Speaker 7 (32:33):
Hey, can I can I go back to something you
guys talked about earlier.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Sure that you and Chris Chris are you there, Chris Kidd?

Speaker 6 (32:39):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (32:39):
What's that?

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Man?

Speaker 7 (32:40):
First of all, how about our guy from oday and
the new head coach at San Antonio.

Speaker 3 (32:43):
Yes, yes, I tweeted out, oh d hey.

Speaker 2 (32:47):
Let's go there you go.

Speaker 7 (32:49):
I was huge, he's our first that might that's got
to be the first NBA head coach that comes out
of the right.

Speaker 6 (32:55):
Yes, Jamil is still an assistant with the Pelicans if
I'm not yes, sorry, Jamil yep.

Speaker 7 (33:00):
Yeah, yeah, so that's I mean, for a great basketball
school like that, that's that's a good one. But no,
you guys are talking about the Halliburton.

Speaker 3 (33:07):
Dad, right, yeah.

Speaker 7 (33:09):
Okay, let me let me offer a counter if I can,
and and I would just say, I don't get it
in the first place that the NBA allows people that
are non players, non non team personnel on the floor
at the end of a game. I don't get it.
Like I don't get that, like you're asking for you're
asking for really bad things to happen. Like did we

(33:31):
I was talking about this with lund the other day.
Did we forget about the malice in the Palace? So
when do, like you just you're a professional athlete, an
MVP and a and a former World NBA champion in
you honest and you just got knocked out of the postseason.
There's a lot of emotions, motions are running high, and

(33:52):
dude comes up to you, and like, first of all,
just the first initial reaction he comes up, he holds
a towel right kind of the towel, the picture of
the or whatever on the towel in front of his face.
Like the fact like there's probably fifty percent of the
league would have knocked him out right there.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
Yeah, yeah, Like that's a generate, that's a modest estimate.

Speaker 7 (34:10):
Yeah, I mean, I like Joann is a good dude. Like,
there's a lot of guys in that league that would
have just knocked him the blank out and he would
have deserved every bit of it.

Speaker 2 (34:18):
And it doesn't even.

Speaker 7 (34:19):
Matter what you say at that point, Like you're dressed
in the other team's colors and you walk up on
a guy, Yeah, and you can say you can be
saying congratulations and getting your lights knocked out and you
deserved it. So like I just the NBA to me,
like they do some clownish things sometimes and letting just
hangers on hers and wannabes and parents and stuff walk

(34:39):
on the floor.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
Man, this ain't AAU.

Speaker 7 (34:41):
And I've listen, I had, I had. We had seven
years of AU and my family and I like AU basketball.
I think it's a bad rap because it gives kids
an opportunity to play a ton of basketball if they
want to play basketball.

Speaker 2 (34:52):
In my mind, that's a good thing.

Speaker 7 (34:54):
Now, there are also the bad side of AU, and
you see that on Instagram and TikTok and all that,
and the brawls with the parents and the kids and
all that stuff. That's why, like in my art my
kids team was involved in one of those with parents
came on the floor with Seattle Rotary. Man, it was
not fun, it was not good, it was not pretty.
And you know what would have would have prevented all
of it a parent walking on the floor, simple as that.
Whether it's an AU level in eighth grade basketball, if

(35:16):
the MLK Boys and Girls Club down on the MLK
in Seattle, or whether it's an NBA game and in Indiana,
just keep your out, you don't disease, don't be on
the floor. And you know what, he should be banned
for the next year. To be honest with you.

Speaker 3 (35:27):
I don't listen if if they go to the finals,
you can't ban them.

Speaker 2 (35:32):
Hell yeah you can.

Speaker 3 (35:33):
I mean you can.

Speaker 7 (35:34):
I think you got to send a message. I think
I think that's but now here's the thing. The NBA
doesn't care because they've been allowing it forever. That's right,
right my opinion, you at least ban him through the
end of the playoffs this season and also come out
with like I they're asking for a massive incident, guys,
aren't they.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
I mean it could serta it.

Speaker 1 (35:56):
Listen, you also have to think that the father of
a player just fight the fact that. And I watched
the video over again Ian and I just saw it
differently and I'm like, he did say He's like I
love you and I love it, and like so it
ended up amicably. But the NBA's got to send a message,
which I totally understand, and they're doing it. I just
I mean, this is a father's son. If he had

(36:19):
if he didn't, I get it.

Speaker 7 (36:21):
But imagine the end of a football game if like
you know, parent comes up to to uh, you know
who who lost last year?

Speaker 2 (36:28):
Somebody?

Speaker 7 (36:28):
Can you imagine if Jalen Hurst. Dad went up to
Chris Jones last year at the end of the game
and I said, whoa whatever like that?

Speaker 2 (36:35):
What would happen?

Speaker 1 (36:36):
Yeah, I mean it's listen, if he had did anything
to put his hands on him physically, then he's done
for life that I have that have no issue.

Speaker 3 (36:45):
It was just verbal. It was bumping.

Speaker 1 (36:46):
Gums and they were talking trash it. I know it's
but the NBA, I think that you know they're doing it,
and they want to make sure that this does not
get past the certain level.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
So I understand that.

Speaker 7 (36:58):
Yeah, I just I just don't know how you allow
people on the floor. I just there's no other sports
would allow that. Yeah, no other sport would allow that.

Speaker 3 (37:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (37:05):
Hey, hey, the Oilers just knocked out the Kings.

Speaker 7 (37:08):
Here comes somebody on the ice to get in in
Copatar's face.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
Let's go, how's that gonna go?

Speaker 1 (37:13):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (37:13):
Not well, not well for that guy. Not well.

Speaker 1 (37:16):
No. And by the way, don't even go back in
the day with Charles Mason.

Speaker 3 (37:19):
And Oakley exactly. Don't even do that. So what do
we got coming up today?

Speaker 7 (37:24):
We're busy, man, We're out Here's Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
It's the first day of rookie mini camp for your
Seattle Seahawks. All the rookies are on the field, not
all practicing, obviously. Some of the guys are banged up,
Tory Horton and Ribby Mills, for example. But there's like
ninety guys out of here, a bunch of young dudes
hoping to get a chance to come back to training
camp in July if they're not a draft or sign
free agent. So we're gonna talk to former Oregon State

(37:48):
University running back. I don't know where he ended his
career at Damien Martinet at about so today, all right,
he's gonna stop by after his first ever NFL practice,
and so we'll talk to him right and then we'll
check in as well, probably with Joe with you from
Emerald Downs, Kentucky Derby tomorrow. They do a ton of
fun stuff at the Downs on Derby Day. Get a

(38:10):
chance to talk to him later. Daniel'neil's weekly visit coming
up to and Bryce Cable do offensive lineman from Kansas
has got a really good story speaking of other sports.
He put a lot of other sports, was told not
to be a football player, and look at him. He's
now an NFL draft picks, so that's great. We'll talk
to him coming up today. So a lot of Seahawks
rookie mini camps, some other stuff Mariner sprinkled in as well,
and some some derby talk.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
