It’s all about the heat and the humidity. We’re climbing a few degrees hotter than yesterday, reaching into the 90s with a heat index over 100. During periods of extreme heat and humidity, it’s crucial to stay safe and cool. Hydration is key—drink plenty of water throughout the day. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing to reflect sunlight and keep cool. Whenever possible, seek shade or air-conditioned environments to avoid overheating. Limit strenuous activities, especially during the hottest parts of the day. Apply sunscreen with a high SPF to protect against UV rays and never leave children or pets in parked cars, as temperatures can rise rapidly. Lastly, check on elderly neighbors and those with health conditions, as they are more vulnerable to heat-related illnesses. Keep an eye to the sky for pop-up thunderstorm activity and be prepped to seek shelter indoors should you need to.
