Speaker 1 (00:00):
To go to the Hamilton's hotline. Hamilton's with a couple
of locations to serve you in Auburn over there on
Odletree and Magnolia. And we're going to Birmingham the Alabasta
area to bring in our correspondent with Bama preps. Lad Vallasu,
Good morning, Lad.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Moore th guys.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
How we're doing We're doing good, We're good. How are you?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Man? Crazy crazy game on Friday Thursday? Not as much.
I ended up going to Clay versus Ramsey. I'd say
that's the epitome of Birmingham coverage. That's Legion Field. That's
probably about as Birmingham as it gets. We all want
to talk about.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
All right, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on.
I grew up in Birmingham on Saturdays watching Bear Bryant. Okay,
so what does the old gray lady look like right now?

Speaker 2 (00:46):
She ain't doing too hot? D Mark.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Come on, all right, all right, you'll book. You don't
have a clue, Bud, it's just holding on. Huh, all right.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Go ahead. Kept thinking of all the history.

Speaker 1 (01:06):
You exactly there was a look glad, you're too young, no, Bud.
But there was a lot of history there. Trust me,
trust me, I'm old too. But go ahead with that
Hoover Spain Park game, big Man.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, yeah, so Hoover Hoover Man. They did a lot
of talking on social media about this game. They went
down to Broward County near Miami, all the way down
there at the beach, and they beat Western High School
two weeks ago. And you know, the Hoover Spain Park
game is always a good one, but it's always a

(01:36):
good one that Hoover wins. You know, before this game,
Spaine Park hadn't beat Hoover since the Obama administration.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
You're going, President al Us here, go ahead man.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Ninety years it was. And then you know Rock Bradley,
Corey Barber, DJ Cowi, these were the guys who led
Spain Park this week. You know, kick return touchdown for
Cali got called back, but it didn't matter. They hit
Corey Barber on like it was an eighty five yard
plant route something like that. And Brock Bradley, their quarterbacks

(02:11):
played a heck of a game and the defense was
able to hold Hoover when it mattered. But like the
final five minutes of this game was just back and forth.
You know who was down twenty seven to twelve. At
one point they saw them all the way back to
tie the game. Then they kick a forty five yard
field game and I don't know four minutes left, Spain

(02:35):
Park answers with a touchdown, and then eventually with around
fifty seconds left, Brock Bradley in front of the student
session at the met finds Corey Barber. You know, really
poetic ending to that game, especially well just for Spain Park.
But you know, I'd say that was that's early candidate

(02:56):
for Game of the Year. We'll have to see, you know,
what the rest of the season looks like, but that's
one of the crazier finishes that I've seen personally.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
The place to look packed on on your highlights.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yeah, yeah, it was they, you know they I remember
when they bring in one big bleacher section to put
out onto the field for the away side, and that's
what they did for Thompson. But now they kind of
got it split up into like three bleachers three smaller bleachers,
and I mean samee Park packed out their side and

(03:30):
their student section was deep. Man, both teams were I
assume it was of heavy emphasis. I had some kids
from Hoover tell me that they wanted to get their
student sections back to where it used to be. They
said it was down last year. I understand why there
was much good football to watch. Uh, but you know,

(03:50):
at the end of the day, this was this seemed
like the Battle of Hoover and that's what it ended
up being. Man. I mean, there was so much animosity
on that field. Cut the tension of it all.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Right, So right now, Hoover, where do you where's their
program at? Like, how are they doing? Are they hanging
on or are they doing? Okay? I mean obviously they
they're hanging in there. They almost won the game.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Yeah, well, they They've got a lot of belief around
Ship English, you know, their interim head coach. After everything
that happened, they rallied and you could tell that they
rally you know, everybody posted on Twitter supporting their coach.
It feels like in any social media comments section revolving
around Hoover, you're going to see about ten of their
fans defending them. It's very much to us versus the

(04:39):
world mentality in that football program right now, and it
showed week one with their resiliency to go all the
way down to Florida and be one of their teams
down there, and this week though they just fell a
little bit, this could have easily been a hoop of victory.
You know, I think that if a few things don't
go the way they do, like the crazy double lotteral

(05:02):
reverse like reverse pass that happened, and you can go
to Bama preps on Instagram, go to our heels and
watch that. That is one of the craziest players I've
ever seen. The ball should have been fumbled twice and
Hoover should have won the football game. Like there's moments
in that game that Hoover could have easily won and
they would have been to and oh and we would

(05:22):
have been talking about them as a serious seven eight
title threat. Well, Hoover's got to go play Hillcrest Tusk
Loosea this week, so it doesn't get any easier for them.
So you when you ask where the program is at,
I don't think they're going to miss a step this week. Yeah,
it seems, you know, to lose to your rival, especially
in the way that it happened, but you know, ultimately

(05:43):
their goal is still to make these playoffs. I think
they still will do. I still think they're going to
win some big football games.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
All right, let me ask you this LA for Jeff,
ask you now, I don't I wouldn't say us again.
I don't think of it is. I feel bad for Hoover,
but I don't think it's us again. They may have
that mentality, but those two, yeah, those two two coaches
that acted crazy was the ones that I want. I mean,
I feel bad for the kids, so they can have
that attitude. But I kind of was, you know what

(06:10):
I mean, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yeah, you know what it is because because there's no
guarantee that Chip English is going to be there next year, and.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
I'd be shocked if he was.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
But go ahead, I would. I would be shocked as well.
He would have to have he'd have to have a
run like he'd have to this new playoff format in
my opinion.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
In my opinion too, you know more about it than
I do, But go ahead.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, And I think that you know, the transfer quarterback,
their transfer receiver. You know, what's to say that they
won't have another crop of guys coming with a new
head coach or everybody leaves with a new head coach.
You know, that's just the state of our game right now.
And we you know, we hammered on this before the season,

(06:56):
and we talked about multiple occurrences of this. You know,
who was in a pretty voltical spot right now, and
it seems like it's all being helped together by this Uh.
I don't know if you call it passion, but just
like I said, you know, he's all these kids think
that everybody hates them and their their coach did what
he did, and you know, he sort of builds up

(07:19):
that mindset in their locker room. But I also get
what you mean by, you know, feeling starr for these kids.
They don't have a real head coach. And you know,
if you look at Chip English's record at Albert Bill
and Grissom, that's not the best. You know, he's not
a proven winner, but you know who knows what he

(07:41):
could do.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
And you're right, I'm before Jeff steps and I don't
mean anything towards that gentleman at all.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Absolutely, that's all go ahead.

Speaker 3 (07:50):
You Hey, were there any scores that surprised you this week?
I had one that really surprised me was I believe
it was a Thursday night game, was Highland Home beating
Charles Henderson and throwing a big.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
Pretty good though they.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Lost Zion Grady. They lose your one boy. You know,
all the playmakers that were around that state title appearance
a few years ago were gone. There's not much there
and we all know, you know, Highland Hope got some
really good defensive linemen, you know, ed rushers, and I mean, god, yeah,

(08:25):
that's just that's the top way to lose a game.
What was it like, six to nothing?

Speaker 3 (08:29):
With the final score of that one, twenty four to nothing?

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Twenty four Oh well, hey.

Speaker 1 (08:36):
A lot of scores left.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
Yeah, I mean I was just the one score that
kind of surprised me was Viiger beating Tuscaalosa County thirty
six to seven. Viger, you know, was not a team
that we ranked in our five day preseason toll on
Bama Preps. And they're going out and maybe they saw it.
I don't know, but they seemed to kind of be

(08:59):
mad at every everybody right now. You know, they lose
their head coach, you know, late in the offseason, and
they bring back there's twenty twenty one state title winning coach.
I'm forgetting his name, but the guy who won the
state title he left. I believe he went to like
Paul Bryant, and now he finds his way back at Viger.

(09:19):
Sammy done really good for Mackenzie. Maybe Mackenzie, Yeah, John,
that's right, Yeah, yeah, John McKenzie. So Viger, Viger looks
like to be on a mission. You know, Tusclusa County.
We don't expect them, but you know when the state
championship in seven eight, but you think that they'd be
a respectable program, you know, first year under coach Hulcombe,

(09:41):
but Bigers ran through that.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
I don't really I don't recall a whole lot from
since Higginbotham was a Tuscaloosa County county.

Speaker 2 (09:51):
I think what he was there in ninety seven? Was
he not when they won the state.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
Champions Yeah, that's that's what I was.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
That's what he's saying that he hadn't seen much since
he left.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
What he said, the county hadn't had much yet.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Coach line Garden, I did a good job, but he didn't.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
Well, they played a brutal the pretty brutal region you
got you got to navigate through too, all right.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Planing Auburn like you coming this way, big man.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Yes, I am. Yeah. That we will be on locations
for that game this Friday, I've actually been to Auburn
once before. It was last year for the regular season,
the regular season game against Cecil Penid City, and that
was the Cam Coleman Show. I'll tell you what.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
He had a couple of Yes, it was.

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Whale receptions. Said, you know, that's that's not the case anymore.
And I see it through.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Hold on, I've lost you there a little bit. But
I don't know if you you might went away or.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
Go back her.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Yeah, there you go, I got check out.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
What I'm saying is, you know, we all see and
I know you guys do, but I see Auburn as
the state title contender this year. And you know, I
think that behind Omar Mapson and some of the playmakers
that they have, they're gonna be a really good thing.
But also open life up maybe two and O as well,
and just being the Liebory game that this is. You know,

(11:15):
I think it's one that I sort of has to
go to.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
Yeah, well, what did you say? No, I agree with it. Yeah,
you're right.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
I had looked at the last few four years. If
they won, I don't know how. I don't think there
was a blowout in any of them.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Yeah, it was a well I got the.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
Scores right here. That was a really close game last year,
was it not? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Scores in the second half, was it last year?

Speaker 2 (11:38):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (11:39):
Thirty one thirty last year. Yeah, you're right about that.

Speaker 3 (11:42):
So I think they've been pretty good games in the
last few years.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
Yeah, there's been a couple of late ones. Auburns won
four in a row, six out of last seven. Uh,
which is interesting. They've had of late, have had their way.
But yeah, most I was gonna pull up these these
scores right here, lad them. It was thirty one thirty
a year ago, and then I think it was Auburn one.

(12:06):
Let me pull it up here, Auburn one. Pretty good number.
It's forty seven, forty eight and three. Auburn has a
one game edge thirty thirty one last year, fifty one,
twenty nine at the Duck in twenty two, sixteen fourteen
at Bulldog Stadium, in twenty one at the Duck thirty
seven to ten, and twenty twenty one thirteen op like

(12:29):
a one at Bulldog Stadium in nineteen that was the
last time Open like a one and eighteen Auburn one.
Twenty two fifteen at the Duck, Auburn beat opl like
A thirteen seventeen at Bulldock Stadium. In seventeen and sixteen
op like A won twenty eight nothing uh and fifteen
op like A one, thirty one thirty and fourteen OPA

(12:50):
like A one twenty to seventeen Auburn one in thirteen
and twelve, twenty one, fourteen, thirty two, twenty three open
like A one in the playoff third round in that
same year eight to seven and before that, Auburn has
really had a run since eight. They've won one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten,

(13:10):
eleven twelve twelve games since eight and Opelaca has won one, two, three,
four five, so twelve and five in the last seventeen.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
So yeah, that's sort of been Auburn football, hasn't Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:28):
And prior to that it was all op like until
back in the eighties, so opak had a run there
with coach McCracken, coach Barfield, coach Barfield, Wilson Cracking, Wilson, Barfield, mccracking,
and Blackmun where it was pretty pretty sporty. Tim Carter
kind of turned it around for Auburn, but it ought
to be a good game. Lad that Auburn definitely has
the senior quarterback, Opa like has a sophomore that could

(13:50):
be key. You know, both have good defenses that appear.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
Tell me, have you I was like a quarterback played
look through two games.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
Uh he's been pretty uh efficient. Actually he was eleven
for twelve this past Friday night.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
They're gonna have to broad around a lot this Friday.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
They'll have to mix it up pretty good.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
I would think, yeah, I would think so. I think
both these defense is pretty sporty.

Speaker 3 (14:15):
Glad, so you know, I do know that op his
defense has a eleven senior start yep.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Yeah, really yeah, all eleven. That's all of them.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
That's it.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
You can't get anything that'll do it all right?

Speaker 2 (14:30):
More than that?

Speaker 1 (14:31):
All right? Anything else you want to go for? Anything
else you want to mention before we go?
