Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ready to smile. Time to go to the Hamilton's hotline.
Hamilton's has two locations to serve you on Magnolia and
Ogle three. And we're going to Montgomery, Alabama to bring
in the head coach of the Carver Wolverines, Coach Mario White.
Good morning, coach.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Good morning. You guys doing today?

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Man, We're doing good, coach. I'm so sorry for the
mix up on the time, but thank you for calling
this morning.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Means a lot, Yes, sir, thank you man. Look like
I said, I don't know how you do it, man,
but you always had an information. I think you knew
I was hired for. I knew.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Well, thank you for that, coach. Hey, everybody can get lucky,
right right, Well, you got a heck of a football team, coach,
you really do. Congrats on that man.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Thank you so much. On It's just been honoring a
blessing and be here. You know, everybody's always talked about
just the talent on the west side of Montgomery, and
that is very true. We have great kids, I have
great support staff, you know, my coaching staff, a bunch
of young guys and guys my age coming along pretty good.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Well. Congratulations on getting in the playoffs too, and a
very very tough Reagon coach. That's that's tough and strong
for you.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Good job, yes, sir, thank you so much.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, yeah, tell me tell me a little bit about
playing Opal like and what you're thinking about playing the
Bulldogs this Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Oh man, you know, like I said, to go back
to travel back.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
You know, I just noticed that you were in Auburn
last week.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, sir, we know it's been it's been a it's
been a pretty tough you know, four week stretch. You know,
you know, going to you know, Enterprise off the Bay
we were facing Dothan was a physical team. Then you know,
going to Bay week there was a perfect time and
East and right off in the Enterprise, you know that
right off the Enterprise game, it was kind of flying
high and we had a tragic event that happened in Montgomery. Know,

(01:51):
we lost a kid in that. So getting ready for
Central departmentalized and we played Central, which you know know
that they're a great teams. Oh yeah, we had Tristan
lows out staying in Bobby, I mean, BJ Coben was great.
Then rolled right into Alburn, you know, to see those guys.
They played out standing football and they just beat us.
We had an off night kind of getting over everything.

(02:12):
You know, we got the funeral done on Saturday, came
back to work on Sunday obviously to face you know,
a tough Ope Locker team. You know, Coach Moore was
a great guy. He always had his guys ready to play.
Their big, physical team. You know. Obviously they're running game
is what they lay they had on. They're really good
at it on their big up front. You know, they're
down on defense, and they played excellent special teams. So

(02:36):
we've had We've had a great week of preparation. We
got to be detail oriented and we got to be focused.
So obviously it's hard to win on the road, and
especially going into an environment like that and the Pack
Stadium a beautiful stadium. I had, you know, a bunch
of great athletes. So it's gonna be a great night
for high school football.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Yeah, and coach, I'm so sorry I did not know
about the young man on with your program. I'm sorry.
I didn't know that. I would have brought that up
in the beginning.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Oh no, he was attached to the program. He's like
he's he's been close a lot of a lot of
these kids on my team, so you know, it was
it was kind of tough. You know. On top of that,
you know, senior night, you know, we actually celebrated the
Anthony Bickers, who would have been graduating this with with
this class right here, tragically lost his life. So it's
it's been a tough little stretch. But you know, like

(03:21):
I tell the kids and my coaches to tell the kids,
you know, as as young men, you got to compartmentalize
and move forward and deal with with tragic events and
the ups and downs of life, but you still got
to get your job done. So you know this this
is this is a great opportunity to teach that and
winning and are losing, but you got to pick up
and move on. So that's what we've been doing, and

(03:43):
I'm actually proud of way they responded a good deal.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Tell me the keys is a game more like coach
in your mind, I know, you got to score more points.
What's the big keys to the game, Tomorrer?

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Well, the big key to game is is just keeping
the penalties down. And you know, whoever wins to turn
over battle. You know that's in anything, you know, little
League jav junior high, you know, high school, college or
pro will wins to turn old battom boarding like a
wins the game. We got to stay sound, we gotta
stay together. They're gonna make plays. We're gonna make plays.
We just got to hold a rope and keep going

(04:13):
in the same direction. So you know, the keys of
the game is, you know, our guys got to be guys,
and you know everybody got to be you know, where
they're supposed to be and play sound football.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Man, sounds good. Mario White was the head coach at
the Carver Wolverines. They're coming into Boldog Stadium tomorrow night,
seven o'clock. Kick. You can hear the game on our
sister station on the Kicker, But more important, they need
to be at Bulldop Stadium. If you get there and
watch these two teams play. Head coach, you've played at Thompson,
You've played at Enterprise, at Auburn. You're coming over here. Man,
your schedule has been tough, brutal.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Well, you know a lot of people see it's brutal,
but I see it as a chance, you know, have
good feelm for our kids, you know, for college of
a collegiate coach, come in.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
Here and see your point.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
These boys can hang you know, you know, prepare themselves
for us to a season like that. They can survive
a collegiate season. So, you know, I wanted to get
to the point, you know, if I'm still here at Carver,
that they keep me, you know, around for a while,
that that's just a normal game. That's one thing I've
noticed when we play Central and we play you know,
the open Likas of the world, in the Organs of

(05:16):
the world and the Thompsons of the world. You know,
it's a big game to us. It's a big game
to us, but it's just a normal game to them.
Good for us to move our program in that direction.
We got to play big games, and we got to
take these kids in the environments like that, so when
they do go to college, it'll just be another day
to them as well. So we see the schedule, but

(05:38):
we don't see the schedule. It's a week to week thing.
But you know, at the end of it, we'll catch
our breath and breathe and look back on it and
see what we can get better as a program and
as a staff and you know, hopefully get these kids off,
you know, out of Montgoverment, get my opportunity to play
collegiate ball and get a degree.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
There you go, all right, coach, thank you anything else
before you go, buddy, Thank you so much for your
time this morning.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Oh no, sir, thank you guys for having me. Man, yeah,
I said, thank you for informing I was getting a job.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
You're a good sport coach. Thank you, and good luck, hey,
safe travel is getting here, and good luck tomorrow night.
And against them dogs. Okay, yes, sir, thank you so
much for having God bless you. That's right, that's Mario

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
