Speaker 1 (00:00):
Talk about baseball, and I definitely if you can tell
you that, we're going to the Hamilton's hotline. Hamilton's has
two locations to serve you on Magnolia and Ogle Tree,
and we're going to bring in the head coach of
the Central Red Devils. That's a j KO. Good morning coach, Ky.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Oh, good morning, gentlemen. How's everybody good?
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Coach? How you doing this morning? You're all good in
the neighborhood?
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Yeah, yeah, I mean it's a it's a great time
of year. You know, everything's good. I am suffering from
some sort of flimson one. I think that's floating around
our city, but who knows. Everything's good.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
Okay, we're good. Well, we're glad to have you coach.
As always. As I told you last night, it's our
time to talk playoff time, right, we got to get
you into absolutely. Yeah, absolutely, congrats coach. You got your
first series last weekend, getting ready to move out to
the second one.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Good job, man, I appreciate it. I'm just really proud
of our guys. Man. It's it's fun, man, It's a
fun time a year. So you know, we had Baker
came up and has a good has a good ball team,
and our guys really were locked in and kind of
took care of business. So just really proud of those guys.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Coach, you keep doing it like this. How does things
keep rolling along for you? I mean, here you are again,
You're sitting there, headed back into the you know, second
round of the playoffs. Your teams won another area thirty
two wins, only eight losses. I mean, geez, you just
keep rolling along. Fifth straight area champ. Something to be
said for that, coach. Goodness.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Yeah, I appreciate it, and I'm gonna tell you what
it's It's not an easy task, not by any means.
I think it says a lot. It says a lot
about my assistant coaches, just our program in general. You know,
the culture that we have right now, that we're blessed
to have the support that we have from our administration,
(01:54):
you know as well as I do. Man, it takes
a village, so you know, there's a lot of variables
that go into it, and obviously, you know, having good players,
you know, it is a big part of it. But uh,
after losing twelve seniors last year and only having three
returning starters, Uh, there were a lot of question marks
for this ball club. And I think it took a
(02:16):
little bit of time to really iron out some things.
You know, our athleticism and and the flexibility of our
lineup gave us some opportunities to win games different ways
early until we got better in some areas. But yeah, man,
it's always a challenge, but it's a fun challenge. Our
(02:36):
guys are extremely coachable. They they really buy into what
we try to do. And uh, and like I said,
I've got a great assistant staff. So it's been fun.
It's been it's been fun to watch the growth and
the maturity of this ball club. And then from a
from a head coach's standpoint, you got to really learn
what kind of guys you got, man, and uh, and
(02:58):
find the right ways to press buttons and and you know,
sometimes you got to just sit back and let things
happen a little bit, you know, and maybe not try
to press in certain areas, which can be difficult for
some old timers like myself. But but you know, it's
it's fun. It's been fun, for sure.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
You better make it fun. Ajkeo With US Central Red
Devils headed back again second round playoffs, Baker comes in
excume they took care of Baker last week nine three
eleven one in the nine to three game. Of course,
nine runs, eight hits, two eras you got the win,
Yawn got the win. And yeah, he must have pitched
well in that game, coach, going six innings.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
He did. Man, he really had a good mix going.
Of course, he's he's located his fastball on both sides,
played all year. Mix has been a really good change up.
Emory had a chance. He really landed the break and
ball early and counts for strikes. He just did a
great job. He controls the running, does a fantastic job
with that and fields his position. So you know, he
(04:05):
brings a lot of different things to the table when
he's on the mound.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
You know, he did well. And then you had a
good relief by Clark who came in and gave me
an injury relief. But yeah, he.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Logan Logan's been a guy that we've used in the
back end the last couple of years and really has
good stuff. His stuff tunnels well together, you know, and
he and he really works office fastball. But he's done a.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Great job for Yeah, he has nine to three, winning
that one game two eleven to one. Coach, I mean,
come right back, took care of business pretty quick. Only
plays six innings, twelve hits on eleven runs. Let's see
highlight about three hits from Brown too, hits from Yon
to his from Freeburg to hiss from Gordon. So a
bunch of hits, coach, and Nord Fitch well on the mound,
(04:53):
by the way. He and Wallace.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
Yeah, and Cam, I mean, you know, Cam was he
was the first team Max Preps All America and as
a sophomore last year, sophomore All American. You know, he
went thirteen and one for us last year. So Cam
is really Cam is just a competitor. He's three pitches
for a strike. You know, we've had we've had to
rest him here and there, you know, during the course
(05:17):
of the season. But he's he's completely healthy now. And
uh and he pitched. He pitched lights out, you know,
and did a great job for us. So and yeah,
we we we found ways at the ball. Emory's really
starting to heat up now and in our lineup, and
so we're doing some good things there, you go.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
All right, this weekend, fair Hope comes to town, Coach.
The only thing I know about the fair Hopes Tim Carters,
their football coach.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Well, the first thing is we have to go too fast.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Excuse me, you got to go on the road, I said,
Faar hopes coming to town. My bad.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Yeah. Yeah, And you know as well as I do.
Anytime you're making that trip, it's not an easy one.
So you know, there's a lot of legits that are
involved in it. So we ironed out a lot of
those yesterday. We'll probably be leaving town Thursday morning. We're
gonna stop in sarah Land and have lunch and then
after lunch have a long practice, uh and then we'll
(06:14):
head to our hotel. We'll probably stay in Daphne Friday.
We'll work out at Daphne a little bit prior to
the game. So, uh yeah, it's gonna be tough. And
they got a really really good ball club, man, I
mean they are, they're good. They're frontline by I think
they have two right handers, two or three right handers
that run it up there eighty eight nine. They've got
(06:36):
two left handers that, uh you know that really were
the mainstay of their rotation. Last year when Auburn played
him in the quarterfinals. I was able to come up
and watch that game three. We had, we had won,
we had swept, and then I went over to Auburn
because Alburn was playing them and I was able to
watch a little bit of them. But they're will Sparks
(06:56):
is their number one. He's a South Alabama commit. They're
a physical athletic team. Of course, they play really really
well at home. You know, their part, you know, throws
a whole new dynamic to things because it's it's a
little bit of a small park and the ball flies
out of there. So uh, you know, outside of Sam Brown,
we don't have anybody that has a home run, so,
(07:19):
you know, so it's it's been an interesting interesting offense
for us.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Have you play in coming opponents, coach, We do not.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
We do not have any common The only common opponent
we have is Doting. They beat doth in the last
last week in the first round, so that's that's the
only one. But they they have a really good club.
So like I said, they don't they don't leave that
area much, you know, So we don't have a lot
of common opponents. Number one, but number two is they're
(07:50):
really comtable.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
Got it. Tell me about your practice, coach, What are
you getting your kids through right now? Like, what did
you do yesterday?
Speaker 2 (07:56):
How long did you keep them? Yesterday? Yesterday are Mondays.
We gave them Saturday and Sunday off. On this time
of year, they're a little bit spent, and we gave
them the two days off. We brought them in and
we met with them a little bit. We talked primarily
about you know, what type of approaches we're gonna have
to have throughout the week at practice from a hitting standpoint,
(08:18):
we really let them stay in shorts and T shirts
yesterday and we just went through some pick periods with
our pitchers, let them work on control of the running
game and uh and we had some VP live on
the field prior to practice. We got our lift in.
We lift our guys in two different groups, so half
(08:39):
of them were lifting, half of them were pre practice hitting,
and then they kind of swapped it up. So yesterday
was a light day for us. Today today we'll ramp
things up a little bit. You know, they'll be in
uniform today and you know, we'll get a little bit
of drill work done. Of course, we'll have some live
some pre practice hitting peer today before we go out.
(09:02):
And actually today we're gonna throw about eight or nine
guys that did not throw in that Baker series. We're
going to give them an inning and a half or
so each just to keep them kind of live and
fresh and all our hitters the same. So that'll be
today's schedule.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Good. I was just curious, you know, you got to
get them keep your leg I would imagine I'm not
the coach, but you want legs on them at this
time of year. What I'll be right? Absolutely, yeah, yeah,
there's not much you can do as far as teaching
them anymore as it coach, you make it. Teach them
a few things, and you.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
Got to wrap it out. I mean, you want them
to have to have that confidence to execute and and
but you're certainly right. I mean you got to keep
it light on them and uh, you know, to a
certain extent and make sure they feel good. But today today,
they'll be on their feet a little bit longer and
tomorrow and then everything tapers back off on Thursday and Friday.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
So yeah, there you go. All right, coach, you feel
good about your team headed in?
Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yeah? Yeah, absolutely, you know, we got a we got
a confident group. You know, they've they've been through a
lot together. They believe in each other. They believe in
what we're doing. So yeah, I mean, you know, I mean,
obviously anything can happen. It's baseballs, but they're excited about it.
Our guys are really excited about it. They're kind of
(10:24):
anxious to get back on the road, and they like
playing at other places because there's three crowds there.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
Yeah. Sometimes you feed off the visiting team, don't you,
coach being on the road, being the visiting team on
the road.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Right, absolutely, yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
I don't know where I was. That's the part. The
other night at the West Region somebody was talking about
it was the high school. I can't remember who it
was and said we went down south and said the
player came and stay coach. They know my mom's name,
my dad, my girlfriend. Yeah, I can't really it was
by the way, I guess you buddy over there at
Sara Lane, Brent Boyd there coach boys that you take
(10:59):
care of, and so is that what he's doing?
Speaker 2 (11:02):
Brett?
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Yeah, I like him. He's a good guy.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
No, Bret, Bret's a really good guy. And of course
you know Evan's there too, and Evan, oh yeah, Evan, Brian.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
I forgot about coach Brian.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
Yeah, Evan was my longtime assistant at at at Beauregard
rather and and let me tell you something, I mean,
both of them do great jobs. Both of fantastic people. Yep.
But yeah, Evan, Evan was Evans. I mean, Evans is
one of the best, you know, best assistant coaches I've
ever had, and just a good coach all around. Yea,
(11:36):
but yeah, Brett's fantastic. But yeah, we'll get a work
out there. We did the same thing in twenty two man,
when we went down there. We had to go down
and play some teams down there.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
It ain't broke, don't fix it, right, coach man, that's right.
Let me tell you you know, I love you. Thank
you very much for your time, and good luck to you, coach,
and we will be talking next week after these w's.
How about that.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
That sounds great, man, I think that you guys and
all you do. Thanks very much, you two, coach.
Speaker 1 (12:00):
Take care of yourself. Okay, enjoy the day in the moment. Okay,
you got it, Yes, sir a
