Speaker 1 (00:00):
Speaking of softball. Time to cover a little softball. We're
(00:02):
going to the Hamilton's hotline. You know the deal. Hamilton's
as a restaurant on Magnolia in Overtree and Ogletree. Wait
a minute, Magnolia in downtown Auburn and Ogletree on the
outskirts of Auburn. Two fine places to dine. Hamilton's, Hamilton's
on ogle Tree and Hamilton's on Magnolia. We're going to
at least got Academy teen of D's is the head
coach of the Lady Warrior softball team, who is the
(00:23):
area of regular season champs and the tournament champs. Good morning, coach, Des.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Good morning d Mark. How are you doing.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
I'm good? How you doing? Coach?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Good? Good college? You's got me this morning. But other
than that, were good.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
Bless your heart. I appreciate you taking time to be
with his coach means a lot. Yep, you keep on rolling, coach,
I tell you what. Congrats, that's awesome. Another area title
and you under your wings. Good job for your girls.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Coach, Yeah, they did great. They were really focused. I
was really proud of them. A lot of hustle, a
lot of focus, and we beat two good teams. Really,
you know, Beulah is really good and Daville's really good,
and then glen Wood. We just have an area that
(01:12):
is outstanding, we really do. Those are four good teams
that are only going to get better. So uh, it's
I'm glad we got it and it's gonna be fun
coming up.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
All right. So so before we reflect a little bit,
where do you go next? Coach? So we're heading now,
which which spot do you go to?
Speaker 2 (01:34):
We go to the Central Regional in Montgomery and we
play at nine o'clock. We played Thorsby. I don't think
it's up on the website yet. Yeah, that's what I
was looking at with Game Changer. With Game Changer though,
they kind of help us out, so we know it's Thorsby.
Soil There'sberg finished number one in Area seven. So we've
(01:58):
got Thorsby, so we'll see.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Yeah, you must be tell me about your games, coach.
I'm trying to find you on Are you on Game
Change right? Coach's yeah, okay, Scott Sobore, Yeah, I had you,
but I can't for some reason. I'm getting plenty anyway,
tell me about your term again. You rolled on through there, coach,
you didn't have any issues, did you.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
Well, we had a rain issue and we had we
had one of those games with Beulah. I mean, the
area was tough. We had the first time we met
up with Beulah in the regular season area it was
a two to one Baldame. We beat Bulah two to one.
(02:42):
It was just one of those games that you it's
fun to be a part of. And then Glenwood Glenwood.
Our last meeting with Glenwood at home, it was a
one nothing vulgame we wanted in the eighth and the
first Beulah was extra endings and so we ended up
beating Dadeville in our first game at the tournament, and
(03:08):
then of course we get Bulah. We drew Bulick as
Bulah beat glen Wood in their game. So we come
up in the winner's bracket and we're sailing along. It's
about I don't know, fifth inning. They score two and
(03:28):
we come back and score two and Mackenzie Johnson I
think she had all four RBIs, but anyway, we scored two.
Mackenzie hit those in and then they go up in
the seventh inning by one and Mackenzie Johnson comes up
(03:49):
and I think hits in Emmy Hertzog, which Emmy, Emmy
was like, I don't know, ten for twelve over the weekend.
She was on fire. So anyway, we tied it up
and then we go in the extra innings, We go
into the ninth inning and here comes the rain. So
(04:14):
we didn't we didn't have time to get our tarpah
or anything else, and it just came.
Speaker 1 (04:19):
I mean, it just came, Coach.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
It came in a hurry, and there was a lot
of water on the field. We sat there and watched
it just fill up. So anyway, we had to halt
it and come back that next morning. The next morning,
the energy was there. I was I was not concerned.
I was not concerned. Were you know. I knew they'd
(04:46):
come back that next morning, real focused, and they did. Uh,
And we ended up playing two innings. Uh, and we
walked it off. Mackenzie Johnson again, we walked it off
in the temp at the bottom of the tenth.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
How about that she had two hits and four b
hours in that game right there. I believe it third
basement she plays third. Yeah, Okay, there you go. And
your winning picture picture was I guess it would be
either length right time, I guess it would have been length. No,
she got the win, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
She did get the win. But okay, three pitched a
beautiful game. She's okay, so good. And I didn't pull
Rayleigh in until that morning.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
I mean, yeah, I can see that. I can see that.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
I was coming for Rayley right as the rain started
to come down. So you know, we were always going
to go to relief because we were sitting in the
eighth in and so I was coming for relief. And
then I went ahead and just put her in the
next morning started afresh.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Huh.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Yeah, made a substitution in that game. It would be
considered a substitution. So yeah, anyway, put her in that morning.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
And so paid off.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
But it was good.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Yeah, she threw she faced five batters and threw fifteen pitches. Yeah,
nine strikes. Now I see that. The young lady Toddy
threw one hundred and six pitch under eight pitches. What's
a is that normal? Coach? Is that high? Low? What
what are we looking at?
Speaker 2 (06:22):
That's about normal? That's about normal normal. Yeah, she threw
a really really good game, as good as I've seen
brief bro, and you know we we played defense was
a little. You know, we just had some airs. You're
going to have airs, it's going to happen. But we
(06:42):
had a couple of airs behind her. Or I don't
think she gave up an earned run. But I was
just really proud of her, really happy for her. And anyway,
so tell me who won the game. I don't know
she did.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Yeah, I got you. And you know what, she came
back and won the finale. She beat you eight zeros
on the same day.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
I guess, No, Rady, goody, No, that's what I mean.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
That's what I meant. She came back.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Oh no, but I was talking about breath. Oh, I'm sorry,
and then having it, you know, go to yeah, Rady.
But that's okay, that's that's how that's how it works.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
But that's team. That's a total team.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Exactly exactly in my book. You know, you give it
to both of them.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
But I understand she pitched eight innings and even gave
up to our runs. You don't need to take anything.
You don't want to make sure you instruct out five.
So that's a strong outing. You're so right, Coach ten
D's with us. We're talking at least got sophomare and
then of course Rady came back and won the championship
game eight nothing over you. I guess that was just
too much for him. Coach twelve hits, you just kind
of put the put the slow down on them with
(07:47):
eight nothing.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Well, I think you know they were they were tired. Yeah,
they had a game before with Glenwood. Glenwood and them with.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Yeah, they had the play between the games that they coached.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
That's right. You have won fourteen to eleven, and it
was a just I won't say, back and forth affair,
but Glenwood was not going to die, gotcha. You know, uh,
Buela would get up big and you think it was
over and next thing you know, here comes Glenwood and
they just you know, it was just over and over.
(08:24):
So it was fourteen to eleven ball games. So I
think they just they retired. Got it?
Speaker 1 (08:30):
So got it? All right? So when's your next game?
I know you said you're play in the morning. When
do you play again?
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Monday? Monday at nine am. We've got Thorsby, Okay, yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
And that's coach that lagoon. Yeah, yeah, okay, you're going to.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
It's a real good, good chance that we'll meet up
with Beula again. You know.
Speaker 1 (08:54):
So that's right. Top two teams went, didn't they That's
very interesting. I forgot all about that. All right, So
you feel good about you team, coach, that's awesome. I'll
tell you twenty seven and eleven and one. Do we
have a tie?
Speaker 2 (09:05):
We do?
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Oh? Okay, remember I'm sorry. I just saw the time
hanging out there.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
I was like, what, yeah, I think everybody's got to
tie this year. Okay, crazy enough, but you know they
end things and ties, which drives me crazy. But hey,
you know I don't have a.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
Tie, can we, coach? We got to win the game?
Speaker 2 (09:25):
No, yeah, just so.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
Well, you know what your girls did good in the
first year, and they h just say, I'll tell you
what now. I got to be proud of.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
That, you know. I think it speaks a lot to
the ai SA though.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
It does.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
I think people thought that we were just going to
be a pushover, that we were just we were a
little ai s are right, and you know, you come
in and you know, I think they're quite surprised, coach.
But there's there's a lot to be said for the
making East and the Edgewoods and the Bestmers and Clark scrap.
(10:03):
I don't think anybody wants a piece of park prep
this year.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
There you go, ark prep is.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Rolling over there. So but anyway, it just I think
it says a lot for the Aissay, we we were
well prepared, you know, at at least this year. Yeah,
we've put up some good numbers.
Speaker 1 (10:21):
Coach. I totally agree with everything you say. I think
it says a lot. You know what. I was one
of those years ago, had no clue, you know, fifteen
years ago. Neither thank you.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
I didn't either.
Speaker 1 (10:30):
Yeah, I don't mind saying that. You know, and then
you get over there and you start watching in the
last you know, seven years, and you start realizing things
aren't quite like you thought they were, you know, and yeah, yeah,
I think we were looking back. Go ahead.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
I just I had first visited the state tournament when
my niece was playing for Tuscalous Academy back then. This
is right before I took the LA job. And when I.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
Thought, you what, you coach, Yes, yes, i's our Tuscal
this Academy, come off and do some things that you know,
I had been teaching for a while, and I was
just I was very.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
Impressed at that point, thinking, you know this is going
to be much more competitive than maybe even I thought
at that point.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
Yeah, yeah, well your team, you've shown that, Coach, You've
done a good job over there with them. We talk
about it all the time, and I'm very proud for you.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Know that.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
I'm a big fan, and well I appreciate that. Yeah, well,
I appreciate what you do. Keep those girls working, coach,
And the rest of the week do they do you?
You kind of get their legs on them. The rest
of the week goes, how do you how do you row? Well?
Speaker 2 (11:38):
I gave them a couple of days off just to
get back in touch with life. Oh yeah, I mean
I've given them some days off simply because I've worked
with JV and we've had to go places and stuff
like that and left them to days off and they've
responded really well. You know, it's hard to motivate at
this time of year of the year, and uh so
(12:02):
we got a couple of days off of them to
get back to academics and then we'll go hard Wednesday,
Thursday and Friday.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
There you go, there you go. Well, nobody works any
hard on you, coach. I've I've been around a long time.
I've never seen anybody work harder on you, so I know,
I know those girls will be ready. Congratulations on the area. Yeah,
congratulations on your area championship. Coach. Keep up the good
work and good luck next week. Okay, I appreciate it. Yeah. Yeah.
Everybody doing good, Allan, the family, everybody.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Good, everybody fine.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
You Tell them I asked about them, coach. Okay, tell
them I'll still care. All right, girl, take care of you.
You got it. Thanks, yes, ma'am, Thank you. Tina D.
