Speaker 1 (00:00):
Little tree. Hambleton's on bag No ya, Hamilton's on over tree.
Two fine places of die. Right, guys, when y'all say that, Yeah,
let's go to burn Alabat, Let's go to blad ballasuit
Bama preps. He's live.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Good morning blasd.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
More than d Mark. Morning, guys. How we doing?
Speaker 1 (00:17):
We did? We good?
Speaker 4 (00:18):
How you doing this morning?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Man?
Speaker 3 (00:21):
I'm great, ready ready for this week. Got a little
non region before we kick off these playoffs.
Speaker 1 (00:27):
There you go a little not well, not everybody. We
have some reaching games, I think in Alabama, don't we.
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Yeah? Yeah, we're still waiting on some of the brackets
outside of seven A to be sorted out. Seven A.
Uh just just got decided with a Sparkman winning Region four,
so that bracket's fully set, but we still need the
mobile region down in six A and a few others
across the classification.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
All right, tell me this, how did that tiebreaker get set?
All of a sudden?
Speaker 4 (00:55):
I saw mister.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Parker's Oh yeah post he did that? Or today? Who
figured that out?
Speaker 3 (01:03):
So the agent say, released the statement, d Mark. But
your guest, honestly is as good as mine. There's been
some discussion on some forums on social media. There's been
discussion everywhere on just how this tiebreaker was picked. So
Sparkman does end up getting it something with with non
(01:24):
region wins, non region strength of win. And I'll tell
you what, de Mark. They went down the list of
tiebreakers and like I said, I do not know how
it was picked. I mean, you know, be glad that
it was in the region of rocket science because it
took a rocket scientist to pick.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
That's pretty good.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
I try it was. It was very weird, but.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
It is true though that I mean, that is the
actual finish. You'll know what we're talking about.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Yeah, I won't ask him.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
How come the state switch from letting a team like
the Thompson District come towards this our area instead of
what they years ago.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
That this would be. This would be the second year
and I know what you're talking about. This would be
the second year that they switched up the playoffs seating.
Last year it was they kept it the same. It
was region the Thompson regions up going up to play
Region for and vice versa, and then the Mobile region
coming up to Region two and vice versa, which would
(02:36):
be sort of that Montgomery Phoenix City area your neck
of the woods. So yeah, and they switched it this year.
So there will be teams that have to make six
to seven hour drive up and down the state from
you know, the lipomobile all the way up near Tennessee.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
So this was something they voted on, Coach Wilson. This
was something they wanted to travel that they they they
this is only in seven A and this is why
they like it'll be o Placa's group in the North group.
Like that'll happen in the next year. Like OPLACK will
be paired up. When I say o Placa region, the
(03:14):
region group that OPLAC is in will be paired up
with a region group and mobile I mean in Hunt.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Well, we'll think about it this way, d Mark. If
Opelikah wins their first round game against to Trustville, which
which will be around to two and a half to
three hour drive to Trustville from Opelika, and there's a
chance that you guys might have to travel the baker
hold on hold On.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Last year, didn't Oplaka's group played in the North group
blad o Placa played Florence in the first round of
play right hold on last year, Coach Wilson. It was
started this glad, let me correct you on that Ola
went to Florence.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
And right, yes, yes, that's right, that's right.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
So they did change it. So if o Blaca had
not finished one and two in the region, they'd had
to go on the road to Hustle.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
That's right, Yeah, you're.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
You go back and tell me how many has it been?
Any seven Mace champions that didn't come out of the
Thompson Hoover group and the ope Kas mcgilltoo, and.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
What they did they win with?
Speaker 5 (04:19):
Not?
Speaker 3 (04:19):
That was the last one?
Speaker 1 (04:20):
Y mcgilton was seven? They didn't when they want it
wasn't they wasn't or was they was seven?
Speaker 3 (04:26):
Yes? Mcgillill seven eight.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
Yeah, they're the only ones. I'll be am I right, right,
I don't mean to answer it for you.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
Yeah, no, no, no, you're you're fully correct and I'm
looking at it now. So James Clemens will have to
travel to fair Hope. That on Google Map is a
five hour and forty eight minute drive here round one.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Five thirty eight on.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
I know, I know you don't want to come in
on this. They might, but you really think those huntful
schools any camp here?
Speaker 1 (05:00):
We need Jim here?
Speaker 2 (05:02):
Yeah, of course the mobile fo't like they used to be.
Go ahead and asking coach, do you think I just
don't think they'll be competitive?
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Do you think do you think any of them? Forward hustle,
I mean that group will be competitive with anybody?
Speaker 3 (05:16):
Absolutely not.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
So.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
In other words, the state championship, the state championship in
seven A is going to be played in the semifinals.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Exactly rightly, Well, let me say this. I think that
the Stavia, Auburn, opal Like and Hewitt all have the
best chance that he doesn't the other side of the brat,
he's right. But when we're looking at it, he's right.
And you've got there. Look, there hasn't been another state
champion in seven A other than Thompson in Central since
(05:52):
Hoover did in twenty seventeen. I mean, if you're just
if you just want to go based.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Off of that, mcgiel, McGill, Right, McGill.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
It was it was it was Hoover in twenty seventeen. Okay,
So if you want to go purely off of that,
the state championship game will be played in the semi finals. Yeah,
he's right, absolutely all right.
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Here here, here's why.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
All right, on one side of the Bracket, Thompson and Carver,
Mary Montgomery and Austin. So you've got Mary Montgomery, Thompson, Central,
Phoenix City and Hoover. That's all on one side, and
then James Simson, Fair Hope on the other side. You
got Spartman, Daphney, Auburn, Ves, Davie Hills, Baker, Florence. You
at Trussell Hope like it. Which side is tougher first or.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Coach first side?
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Yeah, wouldn't you say, Coach Wilson, Yeah, Coach Barfield.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
Well, well, trust for the good they are they are.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Now that's glad.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
You got to talk to me about you trust generalman.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
All right, you go ahead.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
I have some friends who live around trustful.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
But I'm not. I'm as so sure that Clay Chaukvill
and Sirland or as good as anybody in this state.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Yeah. Now, are you saying that you think, Hugh it's
a little bit better than Clay Chouckville and Sarah Land.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
No, No, I'm saying, oh.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
Yeah, I get it. I get it. And let me
let me tell you what Clay proved it against Thompson.
They played that football game and Klay Schausvild won that
football game against you know, the defending seven eight state champs.
So I I do think there's some weight to that.
I will say that. But when it comes to Phoenix
City this year, this is my personal opinion. I think
(07:40):
they're the best team in the state. That doesn't mean
that if you put Clay or Sarahland against them, that
won't be a ball game, because I think it will.
But I think Phoenix City, if we want to go
without classifications right now, I think it's Phoenix City. I
think it's Clay Chahville, it's Thompson. Then at sarah Land.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Coach Wilson.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
But some people have beaten Thompson.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
This time he put ahead of them. He put them
ahead of them.
Speaker 3 (08:10):
That's right, he put them ahead of him.
Speaker 1 (08:12):
He put he didn't put Hoop ahead of them because
that was a pitch five yard field goal. They beat him.
They beat them, but they had injured part of it.
I'm not gonna go down that road. They beat him, Jeff, come.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
On, yeah, well, this is this is the exact same
road to the road to the playoffs that Thompson had
last season one point lost to Grayson, Georgia in overtime,
just as it was last season. D mark Ye lost
to Clay Schalkville. That one was by four points instead
of one point. Then obviously the the walk off fifty
(08:46):
five yard field goal loss against tuber That those are
the exact same losses they had in the regular season
last year.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Well, you tell me this, Mark, you and this gentleman.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
I'm glad.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Why in the world have they just done this in
seven eight? The rest of the classes stay lobialized north side.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Because they say it's too far for those too much
and too far. And you remember the extra go ahead blade.
You gotta remember that extra round they have to risk
to go ahead, Blad.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
That's right. I think in seven A it's more feasible
just off the fact they are the bigger schools with
you know, hypothetically the bigger money pools, the gas money,
which is kind of important when you're driving seven hours,
because I think when you get to the one a's
and the two a's, I think it's a little bit
tougher to make that journey. I also just I don't
(09:38):
think that they I want to go through that process
of shuffling every season. And this is and this is
kind of what I wanted to touch on the Georgia
High School Athletics Association has implemented a point system for
their teams. So all the four region champions. This is
(09:59):
how it was look in Alabama. Hypothetically for Class seven eight,
the four region champions would all be guaranteed into the playoffs,
and then they would base the remaining twelve teams not
off of region standings, but strength of victory. So it's
there's a few ways to do it, and we're starting
(10:20):
to see it get implemented. But if you were to
do that date wide for Alabama to travel for some
of these lower classifications would get real tough, guys.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
Yeah, yeah, well you keep up with all this, and
I look at the school and on Saturday morning and
never I'm an old guy, and I used to coach
a long time ago. I have never seen so many
one sided seventy two to nothing scores and fifty to nothing.
And there's some teams that are really playing football, probably
(10:53):
ain't got no business players.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Well, the rich get Richard and the bourget four right now,
is exactly right, You're exactly.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Right, all right, you all right?
Speaker 5 (11:03):
You know, I kind of I like the idea of
a point system. In seven eighty however, you would probably
have maybe four teams from the North and South combined.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
Yeah, but the point what's the system I.
Speaker 4 (11:15):
Mean you'd have.
Speaker 5 (11:16):
You'd probably have something like ten or twelve from Region
two and three.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Yeah, hey d Mark, Yeah, do you so? Al Preps
Alabama Preps on Twitter put out a hypothetical for what
the seven A bracket would look like under the new
Georgia High School rule. Would you like me to go
over that?
Speaker 4 (11:34):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (11:36):
So three minutes go ahead. This would be over a
point system. One seed Phoenix City will play Hillcrest Tuscaloosa
in the first round. Eight seed Sparkman would play nine
seed Mary G. Montgomery. Auburn would play Daphney. Hewett Trustville
would play Prattville who Prattville who beat Hewett Trustville. That'd
(11:57):
be a five seed. In a twelve seeds, Thompson would
played Doting, Baker would play Obalaikah, The Stavia Hills would
play Enterprise. Hoover would play Carver Montgomery. The one thing
I want to touch on there there's one North team
and it's because they're a region champion. It's Sparkman. So there,
I mean, you talk about having four North teams and
what we have now to one North team and that
(12:19):
new bracket.
Speaker 5 (12:20):
And that would be what two out of out of
the South two?
Speaker 4 (12:23):
Or was it three? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (12:25):
I heard Baker, Yeah, Baker, I was. I was guessing
on the good year they'd beach twelve by the Region
two and three and four out of Region one and four.
Speaker 1 (12:35):
That's right, So eight, right, that hospital bunch.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
Now they pretty good in basketball, but I don't think
they in football.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Well, just oppose a question to Bubba Scott when he
was head of the Hotschool Athletic Association, and you know
what his answer was, And so, where are you going
to be the bid if you're gonna win at all? Hold,
don't mine?
Speaker 5 (13:03):
W Yeah it does, but yeah, I think I mean
you'd have to play them somewhere down the road, if
you mean, I'd rather be down the road.
Speaker 1 (13:15):
And like some of these teams that made it, it
didn't make it in the other way, like dots in,
they didn't make it in the other And then the
regular situation, Yeah right, Prapel made it and doesn't make
it and they didn't made the play.
Speaker 5 (13:28):
Yeah, Well, prattl Dotan Enterprise would more than likely beat
every team in Huntsville you're you know what.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Very correct, very correction, that right there, very correct.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
But tell everybody where they get your information at absolutely.
