We ain't fired no coach yet or hired one. Well

Uh Green? What's all that about?

I don't know, man. I met that guy the Huntble
media day. Fred Ferrier is his name, real nice guy
who has coached, had coached in college before. And I
don't know if there's anything else to it or not.
I mean, they weren't great, but I don't know that
Hazel Green's ever been a state wide power.

That's what I was thinking. It had never been like
a player in the.

So I don't they play good girls basketball?

But I don't know about what that's a little bit different.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Yeah, yeah, they might not be good girls basketball. Anymore

I don't know if there's anything inside going on without
or not. But weird, I mean kind of weird timing,
I guess in high school. I mean, you know, it's
a little bit different than colleges.

you've probably been in the middle of season, what do

Yeah, I mean, it could be something else to it.

I'm just yeah, I don't either, But I just I
find it hard to believe it's just to win lost
thing in the middle of the season.

They've got two games left and you let him go.
They won two games?

They're two and six. They beat East Limestone by five
and beat leev Hunsvil pretty bad.

And this is just a second year they're right.

at three and seven, two and six, and that's it.

Okay, Yeah, so second year I at thirteen at a
four game losing streak and then well, well, you know, hey,
what looking at their schedule, it's interesting is that that
they play Colombia at the end of the year.

four and seventeen, seven and twenty three, thirteen and eighteen,
twenty six and twenty five one in twenty nine, two
and eight, twenty one and forty seventeen and twenty fourth,
they ain't what ever? Yeah, those were head coaching records,
by the way.

They've never won a playoff game.

Boy, seven A was a seven. Eight was a mess
this past week.

Goodness gracious, a lot of happenings. A buddy got beat
up in Birmingham, was on a fifty.

Speaker 5 (03:35):
Five yard walk of Fieldgo how about that? No, I know, yes,
it was hard for me. We do our you know,
obviously do the top ten.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
It was hard to uh kind of rank those teams
after Friday night because a lot of them lost. We
had we had two pretty big upset surprises. I guess
you would say down here, you know, with h Baker
beating Mary G. Montgomery for their first region loss in
twenty two games, and then fair Hope beaten Daphney. All

(04:08):
those four teams will be in the playoffs and down here.
But it'll now that now the seating is kind of
up in the airs until we see what happens this week.
But yeah, you got Central Phoenix City, which obviously won't impressively.
But then Thompson number was number two. They lost married
to Montgomery with number three. They lost Daphney at six,

(04:29):
lost Calver Montgomery lost to Auburn. Good effort by Auburn,
by the way. Yeah, well like I lost obviously the
Central so that five of five or ten teams that
lost in the seven eight top ten.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
That's interesting. Yeah, I wouldn't know how to rank them either.
I know Thompson's good even though they beat that a
lot of players out, but it don't matter. As part
of it, I.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Still would go. I think I still picked them. Them
are central to be uh be on the favorite to
win it, I think again.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Yeah, I think that's a good idea. We're gonna have
a team playing super seven never has played probably in
a while Herevere talking about.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah in seven eight maybe, I mean, what do you
think what the bracket is? Well, yeah, well necessarily, I
mean we could we would have to look at the brackets,
but it could still end up being talks in the
central or could it be uh well, if they're on
the up side of the bracket.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Remember now they swapped that up and.

Speaker 5 (05:28):
Then uh yeah yeah, but you know they're.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
It depends on.

Because they're all oh yeah, because they all go back
into the same.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
You got more different pods. Yeah yeah, I mean it's
possible they could play in the second round, but it's
also possible they could you know, meet the finals. So okay, okay,
I was thinking last year, you know, what happened, what
happened last year? Same thing?

Speaker 1 (05:50):
I mean, yeah, I was thinking it was the other way.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
The parents were different last year, but still they ended
up ended up being the same two teams in the finals.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
I was taking it was gonna be a little different
this time. Maybe that was just by guessing it's different.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
It's different because the first round pairings.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Are yeah, different, you don't stay that way the rest
of the time. That's where I was getting confused. Yet, Yeah, yeah,
all right, what other game you want to go to? Ben?

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Well, huge game down here, that Viger Williamson game. We've
been pointed out over a long time down here in
the top two teams in five A, and turned out
to be a great game. That had a huge crowd
at last People Stadium. No trouble which was good to see,
no trouble in the stands or anything. And then Williamson
ends up winning twenty two to fourteen in overtime. A
very good game between two good teams. So Williamson won

that region. They'll move up to number one in five A.
I'm sure Vigrol probably just slipped the number two. So
that was that was That was the biggest game down here.
Other than those two seven eight games, fair Land got
it done. Jeff Kelly won his two hundredth game, not
a Stairlands head coach went in his coaching career here. Uh,

they got a big game this week they host Theedoal,
so that'll be for the six A Region one title.
Both of those teams are undefeated in the region play,
so that should be interesting game over at Sairland.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
We got that is go ahead.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
I was also going to say probably the biggest upset
six A was not not a terrible upset, but Homewood
beating Parker Park of the reigning six A champ has
now lost three games. Uh, so we'll see what kind
of momentum they have going in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
It is interesting. Uh.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
A little surprised too by by not not that they wont,
but the Pike Road beat Brussel County so badly.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Yeah, we we were talking about that. I just didn't
see it that bad. I thought Russell Kenny would play
them good. So I don't know. Uh, Polk had a
big game on Thursday night. TV did well. I'm glad
to see you. I'll get that win. Polka's got a
good program. Nothing earth shadow there I'm trying. I'm gone

blank on my high school thoughts on Friday night. That's
what I was. I've been we were talking, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
I mean, those were those were kind of those looking
through there's any other huge state games. I mean, I
think everybody else. The seven eight was the big thing
that we had so many teams lose and say, but
the rest of them kind of fell fell into place.
I think Williamson Viger was was big game. Hoo we winning.
We had Hoover and James Clemons won on last second

field goals, which was exciting.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
About that fifty five yard man Auburn keen and kick,
and that's something that's awesome.

Speaker 2 (08:40):
More field goal kickers now, it just seems like everybody
has one except for Auburn.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
I guess that's what I'm saying. Blessed that hard. Auburn
just can't make one. They missed three the other night.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
Well, it's hard to blame our little kicker there.

Speaker 5 (08:51):
That's good.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
I'm blaming him at all issues.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
But yeah, they just that's and you know, the mystery
there is that the kicker from Auburn High Towns was
a sure thing. I mean, that guy was automatic for
coach Etheridge and just for whatever reason in college hadn't
been able to find it. Yet hopefully he will.

Speaker 1 (09:09):
That's what gets me. They just can't get one to
kick it. The man that's sick one. That young man's
doing all he can. I don't know. I admire what
he's trying to do. If anything, Oh for sure, Yeah,
he's giving it eff it. I certainly didn't mean any
crack on that. It's just tough. Like man was saying,
you just can't kick bil Goes. It's tough.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
You're right. I mean these teams that kick it like
in the NFL, seems like it's from about sixty in
now it's almost autot.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Nothing. No, that's fifty yard. Okay, he kicked a fifty
yard No big deal, you know.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Yeah, I watched a thirty nine yarder yesterday. I was like, man, this.

Jeff, I thought, you just like to reach out.

You just lied right on Front Street. You just thank you, Ben.
He just saw the head what he lied. He lied.
See the final of the Giant game, I was wondering
how they did, and he said, yeah, I saw somebody
kick a thirty I watched it.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
He proved he lied so and you know that was
one of the game. You're gonna be there out, You're out.
Gohad it right down the middle too. I mean it
was like I guess because the air so thin, it's.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Time about the Giants getting beat He's been a smore
but yeah, I'm a Giant fan. And he said he
didn't see the game. His Internet was buffering, and then
he just said, I thought at thirteen yard thirty three,
watched the Man watch sext out on Sunday after they

get beat Man, and that's been buffering. What's the score
of the Giant game?

Hey, hey, Jeff, what Brad's gonna hire a manager anything?

I saw it because yeah, he's trying to figure out
they're gonna sit together.

Yeah, I've heard so many names. I don't know. I
don't know who it's going to be.

Well, yeah, there there was somebody with the Dodgers on
the bench. They would they would've been rumored for the job.
I wonder if that there they.

It, don't I can't. I can't remember who it is.
And obviously, you know, I thought, you know, last was
at last the Georgia Auburn Georgia game. All those praise
were down there Chipper and Snipper and.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Yeah Ross Van.

Speaker 2 (11:35):
David Ross, David Ross down there. Maybe that's maybe he's
the guy. But I would have thought if he was
the guy, he would have already had the job.

Speaker 1 (11:44):
I think you leaning towards right, somebody in the playoffs,
or they would have already named it. I think, why
would you not?

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Yeah, I don't know. But anyway, let's we need to
before we go demark. We need to talk about private
versus public.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Yeah, I was gonna get your way in on that.
I had Coach Harmon on last week. He didn't give
me much into it. Friday had him on. What's you
thinking being I.

Speaker 2 (12:09):
Mean, I think I think we're about to have separation,
is what I think.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
Yeah, it looks like it's gonna have to be that way,
don't it.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yeah, unless unless they can get together, you know, mister
Harmon can get together with Governor Ivy and Lieutenant Governor
Ainsworth and whoever you know, speak of the House and
just sit down and talk it out like they've done
before on certain issues, and you know they've been able
to come to an agreement. But it just seems like
at this point it's not going that way. I mean,

when I've heard they have having that private school meeting,
only some red flags went up, even though mister Harmon
and people I talked to from private schools said he
was just a meeting to you know, talk about the
future and and all that type stuff. But it just
it's not it's not something I've heard happening before.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
No, But they got to have a plan there. I mean,
then if they get shut.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Out, yeah, I mean yeah, I mean I think and
we'll see. I mean that, you know. The urgent thing
is that reclass is coming up. I know we're we're
two months away, probably maybe less if they do it
in December. Now they could, you know, not that long
ago they announced all the all the reclassification in the

spring instead of doing it by season. But they could
technically push it back. But you know, they need to
be a plan if that's gonna happen, because that's gonna
be a lot of You're gonna have a lot of
different boxes to check if if they separate, which by
the way, I'm not four, let me just kidding either,
but you know, are they will they stay under the
High School Athletic Association umbrella? If that happens the private schools,

will they be allowed to play public schools in the
regular season?

Speaker 3 (13:52):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (13:52):
And if they're not, then you know, are they going
to form their own organization? I don't know. I mean,
I hope it doesn't happen. I hope we can pick
it out before we get to that point. But I
just think, and I understand, that's my understanding that we were.
It was on the opposite end of the spectrum before
this Choose Act controversy was stirred up. I think there
was actually some talk about getting rid of the multiplier.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
I do too. I do too, being I do too.
I think they were people for that.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
And this Choose Act thing has just has just got
it all stirred up. And I think, you know, the
best thing for everybody would be to get it out
of the court system and and talk it out amongst
each other instead of beating the High School Association like
they're public enemy number one.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
I know, I've never seen it's the legislature goes after
them like they're just some kind of prison up there,
running a prison yard or.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
Something, and it you know, it's been that way. You know,
it seems like every couple of years there's some big
issues that the gun wants to be involved in with
the high School Association, and usually they've been able to
get past it. This time it seems like maybe not.
But I don't, like I wrote in my column on Friday,
I don't know that. I mean, who, what what organization,

(15:06):
privately funded organization has done more for student athletes in
Alabama in over one hundred years in the Alabma High
School Athletic Association. I just don't understand why they can't
work together and get this. Why why they have to
treat them as an enemy and they can't work together
and get all this figured out before it is too late.
But you know there are other states, Georgia, Tennessee, Louisiana,

they all have private, separate, private school playoffs. I mean,
you know, it'll it'll, they'll figure it out. I don't
like it. I mean, my son goes to private school
and I'd rather not be separated. But you know, if
that's where we're headed, and it certainly looks like we're
closer than we've ever been before to that. I guess
we'll just have to get used to a new norm.

Speaker 1 (15:54):
As I always say, time's gonna tailed on that one.
Big boy. Ti't officially yet they yet. Time will tell,
Time will tell. It's gonna get interested in being it
really is, it really is. I don't know why the
legislator thinks they can the legislature thinks they can run
the hsay. I just don't get it. I don't get it.

Won't respond to my email anymore? It's chief of staff
won't respond. They gave me a confirmation email and was
a wall missing, hadn't called back, had an email back.
So I don't know what happened.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
It's hard to get in touch with some of those
political people.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
Sometimes it's unreal. It's that unique being that they work
for you. And then you know, I got in touch
with her in one day about coming on. She sent
three emails. Now, look, Cg's a sweet lady. I'm not
after the chief of staff is a wonderful, sweet lady,
very kind to me. But and I haven't had any
bad deals with him, ex if he just didn't call
and won't answer why didn't call him, won't give me

another interview. So that's fine, that's what he wants to do.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Yeah. I reached out that Britt p R people just
to see if she would be my gift picker for
the high school games one week and I didn't hear
anything back from her.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
That's not cool, I said.

Speaker 5 (17:09):
I said, look, she.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
She could be the picker. You know, her husband's West Britt,
he played at Alabama. They could he could help her,
or they could do it together and see who does best.
And I mean, you know, just send me back an
email that says, hey, that's not gonna work for us
or whatever.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
But nothing Hunt Newspaper, digit digital Like I'm.

Speaker 2 (17:31):
Yeah, it's not like I'm asking to you know, hey,
getting really you know, the no teens parade or you know,
I just want you to picture. I just want you
to come.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
Who's gonna win between between Auburn and Carver. That's it.
That's all right, Ben, Everything good with you, mom?

Speaker 2 (17:51):
She's doing well. Yeah, she's for an eighty eight year
old and had a hip replacement third time.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
That's it sounds like.

Speaker 2 (17:59):
They had They told us they want to do the
surgery on Friday so she could stay a couple of
nights in the hospital while she rehabbed, and instead she
was home by lunch on Friday.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
Wow, that's what I'm talking about.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
I don't know whether that's good or bad. I mean,
we would have rather hurt. Yeah, he's able to walk
on her on with her walker and wow, get dressed
by herself and yeah, they the physical therapist people say
that she's she's doing really well.
