Speaker 5 (01:36):
Good morning Mark. How are you today?
Speaker 1 (01:38):
I'm good? How are you doing great?
Speaker 5 (01:42):
Got to pack great, kind a mixed fixed bag of
football experiences this week. I know he lost Alvin, but
you want to Yeah, bringing out a big one.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Yeah, we always have to look at it. Jeff didn't
realize they played. Just there, I said, looking them up,
look them up.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:58):
It was kind of a why old wild situation because
they had play trouble, like mechanical issues. So like the
I think eighteen hours before kickoff when they finally like
got in the air, you know, to go out west
is kind of crazy. So I knew that they wouldn't
(02:20):
be on their A game because their travel routine didn't
go according to plan. But man Micah Parson's worth every penny,
and our defense definitely stepped in and helped when our
offense was a little bit inconsistent yesterday.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
So I had a little mouth funk conjunction on the
plane and couldn't get yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
Okay, just couldn't get gone something. I mean, I think
they spent like six hours on the tarmac or something
like that. So yeah, hey, they made it, they played,
they won. A win is a win. I don't care.
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Yeah, there's a lot of teams wishing they had wins
this month, especially one down the streets down there.
Speaker 5 (03:02):
So yeah, yeah, then.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
O'clock had a tough night Friday, Auburn had a tough
night Saturday, and then so oh for two, and then
your team one on Sunday. So one for three ain't bad.
Speaker 5 (03:14):
One for three ain't bad. And you know, I don't
know if I told you, fisty Mark, but I had
like the best sports year of my life back in
twenty ten, and I know I'm never going to replicate it.
Because Auburn won the National Championship, the attackers on the
Super Bowl, and the Saint Louis Cardinals won the World period.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
We had discussed that that's pretty neat that's prettyod.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
I had a three T that year, but I know
it will never happen again, so I'm just yeah, I take.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
It week by week, fifteen years, just going about.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
Time flies.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
What's going on with the Tamber of Commerce.
Speaker 5 (03:51):
Well, you know, it feels like these last few weeks
of October are going to be a bit of a
gauntlet for us. We got a lot happening, but all
good things, so we are excited. And tomorrow we'll be
hosting our legislative Appreciation Luncheon with Southern Union State Community College,
and that'll be at Southern Union on Tuesday at eleven thirty.
Tickets are already you know, it's already sold out in
(04:11):
terms of maximum attendants, so no registration available at this time.
But super excited to be having our state representatives and
legislators there to thank them for their support and to
talk a little bit about, you know, how we can
continue to work well together. Tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday the twenty first,
at four pm, we will be hosting the Omega Roofing
(04:34):
ribbon cutting and that will actually be happening at the
opal ECDA Chamber. And this is a business founded by
Randy and Pam Smith and they've been in business for
a long time but they're undergoing a rebrand and so
their new name is called Omega Omega Roofing, and so
we're excited for their ribbon cutting tomorrow afternoon. And then
(04:56):
as you continue on, we've got another ribbon cutting on Wednesday,
one Auburn Development ribbon cutting and this is a joint
one with both the Auburn Chamber and the Opleack Chamber
and it is the new Kaiser Property Development and so
you can find the address on our website. And then
Thursday we are excited to be hosting Business over Breakfast
(05:18):
that is a focus on making your marketing shine, kind
of a DIY approach, and so registration is still open
and available for Thursday morning's Business over Breakfast if anybody
is interested. It's a really really great speaker. Her name
is Olivia Bradfords, who spoke at our All Things Marketing
some at a few years back, so very talented, has our
(05:40):
own marketing agency in the Shoals and is coming down
to teach our foot we need to know. And then
Thursday afternoon we've got tap takeover for Opaque Young Professionals
at whistle Stop followed by Friday, another busy day with
connect over coffee at eight am and a new member
orientation at nine thirty A jam passed week.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
Yeah, you got it going on. I was just in
there looking at you got a kind of a cross,
you know, a week of all kinds of things, you
meeting legislators, eating lunch, breakfast, ribbon cutting, young professionals. You
just got a whole lot of going going on.
Speaker 5 (06:18):
You through really great. You know when you add that
in there with the fact that also Wednesday at lunch
is our second to last rally session for our annual
Reach campaign, Oh yeah, you know it is. It's going great.
We're doing awesome. We secured a few big sponsorships last
week for snoople liked it Friday, and so yeah, things
(06:39):
are going well. But when you look at everything that's happening,
both between the Reach activities and then everything on our calendar,
it's just a perfect, I guess, glimpse into the expansive
work that we do with deep like a chamber. You know,
it's We're not just a ribbon cutting machine, We're not
just an for hours place. We really do meaningful work.
(07:03):
We had a great meeting last week. About I met
with the class of leadership in the county and I
was sharing with them. You know, the United Ways just
put out a new study that talked about how forty
seven percent of residence in Lee County fall within what
is called the Alice threshold. And what that means is
that these are people who are above the poverty line.
(07:26):
They're employed, but they are asked at limited and income constrained,
which means they're working hard. They've got a job, but
they're below the poverty or they're above the poverty line,
so they don't receive any sort of like government benefits
or anything like that, but they're still struggling to pay
their bills every week. And so that's something that when
you actually look at that from the perspective of like
(07:48):
what is causing that? And you know, some people think
that the cause of that is how expensive childcare is
in our community. Some people are paying more than a
mortgage for child led. So yeah, I think for us,
you know, knowing that we're we're working on big issues
like that while simultaneously doing really fun, active, the fun
(08:09):
things like Snobolika and other things like that, it's just
it's it really gives you a good glimpse into the
impact and influence that theople like a chamber has over
this entire region. And I'm just proud to be doing
the work.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
There. You go, y'all do a lot of work ally,
there's no doubt about it, and I'm glad you guys. Nope,
I could covered. Isn't that in that proposal because it's
a big deal coming up soon.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
It is Friday, December fifth night, the date we did
just close the applications for great entries, So that closed
over the weekend, and so we'll see. We should know
in the next I think on Friday is when we
were actually reviewing all applications and selecting this applicants. So
if you're hearing this and you're thinking, oh, no, I
(08:53):
completely forgot to submit our application, give us a call
at three three four seven four five four eight sixty one.
It is possible that we can accept your application late,
but certainly no guarantee because we are we're doing things
a little bit differently this year and really doing going
very very early for everything.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Okay, good deal, all right? Anything else? Talkap.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
I don't think so. I think I think we're I
think we're all set. We're looking forward to Well, actually,
I guess the last thing I would say is we
sent an email out last week and just want to
let people know this Friday is the last day to
register for our Switzerland trip next April. Okay, with the
maximum amount of saving. So I think you can get
(09:37):
three hundred dollars off the regular price by type by
typing in a discount co ople like a three hundred
and so this Friday for those people who are considering
traveling to Switzerland with us, this Friday is that big
day to make sure that you get to go at
the lowest price possible.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
