Speaker 2 (00:06):
The head coach of the Least Scot Warriors is Buster
Daniel and he is live on the Hamilton's hotline.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
Good morning Coach Daniel.
Speaker 3 (00:13):
Good morning guys. Here's the d Mark, Jeff and Chris.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
How y'all doing this? Mart?
Speaker 1 (00:18):
Good? How you doing?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Man?
Speaker 3 (00:21):
I'm wonder wonderfush Friday morning, cool outside man, couldn't beat it? Good?
Speaker 1 (00:25):
All right? Now?
Speaker 2 (00:26):
I hate to do this because not wait a minute,
I don't hate to do it. I hate to have
to bring it up. How did your three gentlemen had
surgery yesterday? Had everything go okay?
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Well? What do you text? And told all of them
yesterday that all the surgeries went well.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Good, They all had good reports.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
But you know, anytime you get cut open, it's not
a good thing. No, but you know, we we'll real quick.
Will Marshall. Will Marshall had a Uh it's been dealing
with a herniated disc that you want to season. Uh.
So he had something done, some procedure done yesterday in Birmingham. Uh.
Joe King you know, he he had a torm andniscus
(01:06):
in his knee, so uh he he had that repair yesterday.
And then Luke Donaldson, Uh, you know he's towards a
c L on the practice field the other day and
he had it repaired in Auvern yesterday. Doctor Wilson took
care of him. So they all had good reports. Everything
was good. It's gonna be recovery for all of them.
But but uh, I think they're all doing well and
spirit and uh and and and physically too. So face
(01:28):
for asking.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Absolutely when you when I nonchalantly asked about injuries the
other night, you said, well, I got three having surgery.
I liked to fell off the table. I was like,
holy cow, you know you don't get that any time.
I hate that for you, caj for those guys too.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
Yeah, it's you know, it's surgery bad on anybody, but
when young young kids have the surgery done, man, it's
just it's just bad, you know, because they won't be
out wronging and running and doing things ball and they
can't now, so you know, it just sets them back
a little bit. But you know they go they gonna
heal and then be fine.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Or too long hopefully you may this. I know Luke
is a seniors is all three seniors coach?
Speaker 3 (02:04):
No is Joe King? Is it not greater? Oh? Okay,
well Marshall, Marshall is the tenth grader.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Okay, well that's little silver lining. Yeah, okay, luk, Yeah,
I talked just that checked putting on him when his
dad yesterday. I'm on Luke awhile, So I hated that coach,
I really do.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
That's the worst thing about watching kids play ball is
the chance of injury, you know, and something some of
us struck, like you said, was free.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
That's right. You never want you never like to see it.
But you know, you can get hurt walking down the street. Yeah,
people don't understand, you know. Yeah, there's a lot of
people out there to blame football for injuries. Man. You know,
you can get hurt just walking down the street.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
I know a coach that got hurt walking out his backstep.
So I mean, let's don't bring that one over. That
was awful one and that was a bad shot, because no,
that's good.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
Hey, that that old fella been suffering about six seven
weeks now. We need to we need to hear him,
get him back.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
Absolutely, we need to get you off that boot. I'm
glad you're on the boot though.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Well, how you got you a good win?
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yeah, I know, I'm glad. I should have asked you
about that too. I'm glad you're doing better. You got
your good win last week.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Coach.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
You may not have been real pleased with how you
guys played all along, but you got that win.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
Congrats, Well, thank you.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
It was a win. You know, Like I said Wednesday night,
I wasn't really pleased with how we performed, but I
was pleased with how our kids kept fighting and never
quit and found a way in the end and win.
I mean, you know, they we did probably just if
you go down a list of things to do to lose,
we probably did all of them or ninety nine percent
of them to lose a game and still somehow hang
(03:35):
on to win. So I was proud of that. I
wasn't proud of the way we performed. And you know,
we've talked about it this week, and we've had a
great week of preparation this week. So you know, you
take to take a good win over a good or
bad laws any day. So I was pleased with that.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Yep, you get you win. You remain unbeaten.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
All right, you dip out of region play tonight Randolph County,
very good football team, number one in Class one, A
very good football team. What do you think about Randolph
County tonight, coach.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Well, we're playing watch but anyway, isn't my bad?
Speaker 1 (04:06):
I'm I had the right ranking.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
I was reading about Randolph County the other day, So
my bad, coach, go ahead, that's.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
All right, that's correct ranking. Yeah, they are number one
in one A, defending state champions. You know, they've got
a five star out there that's playing running back and
he'll flip over to the deepened side. He'll play linebacker
one time, defensive end one time, and if if it's
a passing down, he draws back to play stafety. So
he's that type of kid.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
You know everybody and everybody in the state knows about him,
and a lot of people of the country know about
this young man but outstanding player. He also has a
good cast around him. Uh. He has two ball running
backs that can you know, take the take the ball
the distance if you if you don't tackle, tackle well.
And uh, they got a receiver first name Frisco. Can't
remember his last name. I apologize, but outstanding speed, great
(04:51):
kick returner. Uh we can't kick the ball to him tonight,
and and we won't, you know, unless it just bounces
the wrong way. But uh, they're they're very good football team.
The record shows that I got a new coach to
Dake Rivers call a board guard guy doing a great
job over That young guy is gonna be a fantastic
coach down the road. I mean he's he's learning and
(05:11):
getting experienced, but he's doing a great job with those guys.
And uh yeah, I mean that's just a it's the
outstanding football team. We gotta play to night, and we
can't afford to make any mistakes if we're gonna be
successful tonight.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
All right, so what's that going to? No mistakes and
play good football? What else you gotta do to win
this game?
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Coach? Without some of you players, as we talked about, yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
We know we lost.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
We lost Luke.
Speaker 3 (05:32):
He's uh, you know, he was the starter on both
sides of the ball, played a lot of special teams,
you know, just just a a leader for us. You know,
kids looked up to him, loved him, and uh so
you know, yeah, we're gonna be without him and you know,
the younger guys played roles, but it wasn't like they
were started. So but yeah, we we just got to
take care of the football, d Mark and uh you know,
just uh, I make mistakes. We got to be focused
(05:55):
on what our job is and do our job and
you know we should be fine.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
Do they just line up, run the ball and run
the clock? Coach? Is that there? Forte?
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Well, they are wishbone I you know, they you know,
And I made a little joke cause the night on
radio with you when I talked what what Roger mcdonald'saidt
one time. You know, if they getting a shotgun, they're
probably putting right.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
I just didn't know who heard that from the other night.
That's yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
But hey, lad, when Roger said that, it's me.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
It made me holler coach, I ain't gonna lie.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
But anyway, yeah, I mean, yeah, they go run the football.
That's what they want to do. You know, they run
running wishball and they run some eye they run a
little overload front, you know, So that's that's the thing.
They want to run football and then they will throw it,
you know a little bit when they need to them
when they want to. But you know, the biggest thing we
got to do. We gotta be stop the run. Uh.
If we can stop the run, we got a really
good chance to win the football game tonight.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
What about their defense, good coach, How good are How
do they play on that defensive side?
Speaker 3 (06:52):
Oh, they're they're very athletic. They running the football. Like
I said, they got this secondary. All those guys could
run run back there. Their their ball hawk talk. They
just they're very sound at what they do. And we've
got to take care of our job, you know, on
offense side of the ball for us, they've all got rules,
they've all got certain people they block in different different plays,
and we've got to take care of us to have
(07:14):
a chance. But you know we'll do that. I like
our chances to night good. It'll be a really good
football games with two good football teams. And just like
it was last year. You know, we had lead on
them in the third quarter and then you know they
played well in the fourth and they come back and
beat us by one. You know, that was just a great,
great football game, and that's what you wanted Friday night.
We winnna lose. If both teams plays, the best team's
(07:34):
gonna win and so that's what we're looking for tonight.
We can play well. We got a good chance.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
You got buster down you with us a least got
academy head coach. We're talking warrior football tonight. Big matchup widely.
Both team's undefeated ranks in the top five of their
respective classifications. BB Comber let's see why they beat BB
Comber fifty six forty six zero Horse you've been fifty eight,
Tenville fifty eight to twenty seven. They beat Donahoe by
(08:01):
four foot victory, Christian sixty three six, glenn Wood thirty
five twenty one, and Woodland forty nine seven. They've given
up twenty seven to Fattville and twenty one to glenn Wood.
Other than that, coach, they played solid defense.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Oh absolutely, that's what I was just talking about.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
You know, yeah, you did football.
Speaker 3 (08:19):
They're very athletic, you know they We've got to do
our job. It's going to be a long night for us.
You know. Each f our guys know what kind of
task they have in hands. So I mean, we just
got to play well. You gotta take care of the football.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Would I be wrong to say you guys have more depth?
Would that be be right or wrong?
Speaker 3 (08:36):
You know, I don't know. It may be about old
level playing field. One of their guys play both sides
just like ours. Do you know they're a smaller school
than us by numbers, but uh, you know a lot
of our guys just just flip on one side the other. Yeah,
I say seven or eight guys to play on both
sides of the ball and special teams, and you know
they do the same thing very evenly. I say they
(08:58):
ain't matched right there, but you know, on the same
playing field right there with kids playing both.
Speaker 1 (09:02):
Ways special teams.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Coach, you mentioned that briefly this could come in right there,
This could come to be very important tonight. How is
their special team? You guys have a pretty good special teams.
I know you wasn't happy last.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Week, but.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Yeah, you know, if I had to, if I had
to make a statement about that, I say, our special
team was better.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
We work out special teams every single day. You know,
our our kicker, you know, even though he's the ninth grader,
you know, think he's better than their kicker. Their kick off.
You know he don't kick it real deep. Ye again,
you don't have to kick it deep when he's got
guys that can run like they do. So we've got
again everybody has certain things they do on kickoff return,
and so you know, we got to block certain guys.
They got to do that. Uh, one of them, number six. Uh,
(09:41):
he's usually the first guy down the field on kick
off for them. But you know they're they're they're punters,
you know, better average. He kicks the ball about thirty yards. Uh.
Nobody just put a whole lot of pressure on them
this year on punt. So we're gonna try to get
the pressure on h and see if we can make
him have a bad punt or you maybe drop us naps.
You know, never you never know what's gonna happening in
special teams. But but I think, you know, if we
(10:02):
just lined up, I think our Spash teams has a
little edge on him.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
Oh go ahead, who's our return guys? Coach?
Speaker 3 (10:10):
All right? On kickoff return is Preston Hughley And and
then it depends on when I got one or two
back on what return. But it's the eastern most of
the time, and the presson will go back with him too, Okay,
but yeah, yeah, Griff and Gaston will go back sometimes
even Whitewalla can go back, I know, but the main
but the main too are Eastern and then Preston.
Speaker 1 (10:28):
Okay, you got some.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
You got some that can take it to pay dirt.
There's no doubt about it.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Right, And we've had our kickoff return has put us
in good fields this night. I'd say every time other
than one or two all season.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
So all we got to do is make number six
miss right, make numbers ship.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
We can miss him.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Yeah, Yeah, he's pretty tough looking back, hitty coach.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Who do you compare him to?
Speaker 2 (10:49):
Do you compare him anybody?
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Did we play?
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Yeah? Anybody?
Speaker 3 (10:54):
No, I we don't. We don't see anything like this
did anyway. I mean he's six four, two hundred and thirty
five pounds. Wow run So I mean he's uh, he's
not gonna be a college running back. Everybody knows that.
I think he's over signed him. Maybe as an edge
rushing he's gonna be outstanding. And you know, I've heard
he as a great kid. He he's a leader on
the team, helps young kids out of practice and coaching
them and helping them out. But just an outstanding football player.
(11:17):
And we got to try to contain him tonight. You know,
he's not as fast as the Winston kids from Randolph County.
But he can still break and go the distance.
Speaker 2 (11:25):
Okay, all right, you had a good week of practice coaching,
soonding you had something out other than that, you had
a good week.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
We got a great week. It's probably twice as good
week as we had last week. You know, I talked
a little bit about that. But this week the focus,
the focus was better. Uh just just the energy was better.
It's just so it's a whole lot better this week
than it was last week.
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Okay, good deal, all right, Coach anything else you want
to bring up before we go.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
No, just everybody travel up that road of four point
thirty one seventy seven. It's go to Wading. It's the
fourth of Warriors.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Coach Daniel, thank you so much for your time. Safe
travels to Wadley and good luck.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
All right, thank you God y'all have a great view
you too.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
That's Coach Buster Daniel and the Least Scot talking Lee
