Get ready to drive and get ready to smile.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Get ready to smile. Miss ali Out, the President of
the Oplaca Chamber of Commerce and CEO.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Good morning, Alley.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Good morning, how are you today? Good to see you too,
You too.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Daffer and Sharp over there?

Speaker 4 (01:28):
Well, thank you?

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Yeah, pretty, I should say, what's going on in the world?

Speaker 5 (01:34):
You know, we're just gearing up for Friday for our
eighty fourth annual meeting, So big deal for us to
be celebrating eighty four years since we were incorporated. But
I've actually found some documentation that shows that we are
probably closer to one hundred plus years, just because we

(01:54):
just didn't happen to incorporate until nineteen forty one, so
some of those founding documents go back to at least
the twenties and.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
And we're considered a.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
Founding member of the US Chamber of Commerce, which means
we've been around since the very beginning, which is just
I mean astonishing and impressive. I'm just I'm glad to
be a part of the journey.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Who our Chamber Commerce director was.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
And you know, you know, I don't.

Speaker 5 (02:18):
I mean, I've got the documentation from nineteen forty one,
but you know it's kind of hard to read it
to us.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
But yeah, it's been incredible. So eighty four years.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
We'll be celebrating on Friday at our annual meeting. We
typically have over five hundred people there that are just
you know. We have a delicious lunch that the Auburn
University Hotel at Conference Center serves up, which our partners
at ITHACA just do an incredible job. They bring the
whole staff over and cater the event, so it's a
plated meal for us. And we hosted the indoor practice

(02:52):
facility at Opelika High which is very impressive. Makes you
feel like you're just you know, in the heart of
Opelika with it. And we'll be giving out awards like
Emerging Business of the Year, various business sizes based on
employee acount, and then Woman of the Year, our Ambassador
of the Year, our kind of volunteer board Member of

(03:13):
the Year, and and then Spirit of Oblika is kind
of the culmination of of everything where we will recognize
one incredible person who just happens to embody the amazing
spirit that makes OI like Opalika.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
There you go. I love it. And is it about
an hour and a half.

Speaker 5 (03:31):
Yeah, So the event starts at eleven. It'll go from
eleven to one and so but we'll have, you know,
some kind of mingling time and then we'll start the
program and serve lunch. And our event is brought to
you by h and S Industrial Supplies and Services, which
is one of our board members, Raven Harvest.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
It's her business.

Speaker 5 (03:50):
She's been sponsoring this event for I think seven years now,
and it's just it's an it's an incredible opportunity where
you understand that the opportunities that the Chamber puts in
front of you to be able to get in front
of your target market is just it's spot on. So
for her, she's looking to get in front of some
of those larger employers, looking to potentially explore partnerships about

(04:12):
maybe cleaning services or I mean, shoot, she did a
lot of a lot of services related to COVID back
when that was happening, and so you name it, if
it is an industrial supply or service, she is capable
of doing that. And so this is a great way
for her to kind of be front and center for
all those folks, and she's earned contracts out of it,
which makes us feel like, hey, we're doing a great job,

(04:34):
so very grateful. Though we have so many businesses that
sponsor this event, she is the is the presenting sponsor
and will be active throughout the event. But then, let's see,
we've got so many I mean, I think we have
a total of sixty plus tables, and so almost every
one of those tables is either sponsored by a business

(04:57):
or there is they've sponsored a half table.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
So it's it is the place to be on Friday.

Speaker 5 (05:03):
We've got a new menu, it's looking delicious. We're gonna
have great awards. We've got some great videos to unveil
and highlight some of our members just.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
Doing great work.

Speaker 5 (05:13):
So very much looking forward to our eighty fourth annual meeting.
We may be able to squeeze in if you are
like listening to this and thinking, oh my goodness, I
forgot to buy a ticket.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
If you call.

Speaker 5 (05:26):
Us or email Ali at Oplaca Chamber dot com, I
may be able to get you in today, But absolutely
no later than today, because today's the very last day
we left the ticket sales open over the weekend for
anybody that maybe didn't squeeze it on Friday, but it is.
It's always a big hit for us, and we're very
much looking forward to that.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
All right. It'll be Friday, eleven o'clock at the op
block indoor football Facility on the campus of High School,
seventeen hundred.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
Bullet All Parkway.

Speaker 4 (05:55):
That's right now.

Speaker 5 (05:57):
Thankfully, with that being such a large event for us,
it's our largest event of the year. We don't have
a lot of other things happening this week, and I'm
grateful for that. But as you do, well, after five
or six ribbon cuttings last week, I'm grateful for a
slower pace this week. Of course, you went and saw
the new Floral Park. We had a ribbon cutting for
that this beast Saturday. It was incredible. I highly recommend

(06:21):
anybody to go out. Major kudos to City of Opalaika,
the Oblaca City Council for choosing to fund that project,
the city administration for their leadership in it, but especially
to the.

Speaker 4 (06:31):
Parks and Rec crew.

Speaker 5 (06:32):
It is very very clear that our Parks and Rec
Department put a lot of thought and intentionality in the
design of that park. And I mean you there even
you've got I think four different pavilions that you can rent.
Their rentals are available, yeah, so you can already rent them.
In fact, it's so simple. Matt Battles was telling me
there's a QR code on each panel or on each pillar.

Speaker 4 (06:55):
You just scan that QR code.

Speaker 5 (06:56):
You can go ahead and book and then ope like
a parks and rec post it to their social media
this week. Well, so you can go ahead and start
booking those birthday parties.

Speaker 4 (07:03):
Or any activities that you want.

Speaker 5 (07:04):
But I do want to bring your attention to one
other thing that's kind of culminating this week is that
this is the final week for twenty under forty applications
to be submitted. So if you or one of your
employees resides in Opalaika and is under the age of forty,
we highly recommend that they apply to be a member

(07:26):
of our of this year's twenty under forty class. It
is a year long leadership program that kicks off in
August and ends in May, and they do incredible things.
They learn all about the city of Opelaika, the various departments,
the different opportunities that you have to get involved, whether
it's nonprofits or different boards, that you can serve on

(07:46):
and they also do a service project through the year.
We just had our most recent class raised over thirty
thousand dollars for the Curtis House. They're in ward two
of Opalalaika, which was incredible. They did an entire greenhouse
reboot and a lot of work with that. And so
twenty hundred forty applications are closing at the end of

(08:06):
the month, So just at the end of this week,
that is the day highly recommend you apply for it.
It was certainly life changing for me, for Todd, for
a lot of people that I know, so highly recommend that.
And then as we look ahead to next week, we
do have a Travel with the Chamber interest party on Tuesday,
June third, that's from five thirty to six thirty at

(08:26):
our office. And traveling with the Chamber is like a
really fun opportunity to kind of dip your toe in
the water of travel where maybe you're not super comfortable
going by yourself, but you've always wanted to do this
kind of trip. Well, you and a friend or just
you can tag along with our group at the Travel
Interest party on Tuesday, we will be talking about two

(08:48):
different trips we are going to Switzerland next spring, which
is incredible. Spring of twenty twenty six going to be
an unforgetable trip. And then we are exploring the possibility
of going to Christmas or going to New York over Christmas.
So I know, for me, I've always wanted to see
that big tree and go ice skating at.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
Rockefeller Center, all those wonderful things.

Speaker 5 (09:08):
So you can come to us on Tuesday, June third,
at five point thirty just learn about both of those trips,
explore the options to answer, ask your questions, and then
potentially sign up and go with us on either of
those trips.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
So I highly recommend the Switzerland.

Speaker 4 (09:24):
Yeah have you been. It's incredible. Oh just got back
about a month ago. Oh my gosh.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
What was your favorite partscern. Yeah, we do go to
Loocer and that's on the itinerary. Look at that. Well
you've heard it here first. You do not want to
miss Switzerland. To me, it's a bucket list trip. It
looks absolutely incredible. I cannot wait to go.

Speaker 4 (09:49):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
I would guess about nine or ten hours.

Speaker 5 (09:54):
Ten hours, that's not too bad, I would guess. I
think it's maybe ten days. I can't remember.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
But it is.

Speaker 5 (10:00):
All on opla like a chamber dot com. You can
learn more about it. And then I do just want
to for those save in the date. Next Thursday, June third,
we're excited to be having our joint ribbon cutting with
the Oplake Chamber and the Auburn Chamber. We've got a business.
After I said ribbon cutting, I'm at business after hours.
Business after Hours, a whistle stop, bottle and brew, one
of our favorite downtown up like a businesses is next Thursday,

(10:22):
June fifth, and then food truck Friday on the sixth.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
There you go.

Speaker 4 (10:26):
So we took one week off to just kick it
back up next week.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
There you go. All right, so the big one this
week we got tomorrow night, and we got the boot
camp starting tomorrow night, and then Friday is the big day.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
Friday is the big day. We look forward to it.

Speaker 1 (10:40):
There you go, Alick, thank you for what you do
and thank you for coming in this morning. Thanks so
much out president of the Oplaka Chamber of Commerce. And
you've been listening to Chamber Chat.

Speaker 2 (10:48):

Speaker 3 (11:00):
